Adventist World Aviation has an airbase 00:01:06.09\00:01:08.46 on the Philippine Island of Palawan. 00:01:08.49\00:01:10.76 However, up until this point, the operations here have only 00:01:10.79\00:01:14.58 consisted of aviation support with fixed-wing aircraft. 00:01:14.61\00:01:18.39 Recently, there has been talk about expanding this airbase 00:01:18.90\00:01:22.48 and placing a helicopter here to service the island, 00:01:22.51\00:01:25.41 specifically the mountainous regions of the island, where 00:01:25.44\00:01:28.40 airplanes cannot reach. The mountain range that runs 00:01:28.43\00:01:32.43 through the center of the island is very steep 00:01:32.46\00:01:34.75 and very rugged. 00:01:34.78\00:01:36.13 There is simply no place for airplanes to take off or land 00:01:36.16\00:01:40.03 making these areas impossible to reach. 00:01:40.06\00:01:42.67 Within these mountains live the Palawano people, 00:01:42.70\00:01:46.67 the indigenous people of this area. 00:01:46.70\00:01:48.61 For the past 18 years, Adventist Frontier Missions 00:01:48.64\00:01:52.34 have lived and worked with these people. 00:01:52.37\00:01:54.51 The Palawanos are isolated in the mountains because there 00:01:54.54\00:01:57.74 is simply no way to reach them, except by hiking for 00:01:57.77\00:02:01.35 hours up and down the jungle mountainside. 00:02:01.38\00:02:04.08 This hike takes an enormous amount of strength and 00:02:04.11\00:02:07.31 is very dangerous. 00:02:07.34\00:02:08.37 Very often people die on the trail, simply because they 00:02:08.40\00:02:12.68 could not reach medical aid fast enough. 00:02:12.71\00:02:15.07 Adventist World Aviation wants to help AFM 00:02:15.10\00:02:19.13 bringing aid to this unreached group of people. 00:02:19.16\00:02:21.65 By placing a helicopter in this area, they could fly in 00:02:21.68\00:02:25.72 medical supplies, food, and transport 00:02:25.75\00:02:28.99 emergency critically ill patients. 00:02:29.02\00:02:31.44 Adventist World Aviation was founded as an aviation ministry 00:02:31.47\00:02:35.67 to support the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:02:35.70\00:02:38.64 And humanitarian work as well in the course of that. 00:02:38.67\00:02:42.44 So what we really want to do, is do aviation well, we want to 00:02:42.47\00:02:48.58 do it safely, we want to do it effectively and efficiently. 00:02:48.61\00:02:52.10 We have other ministries that are on the ground and doing 00:02:52.33\00:02:56.33 close in work like the AFM mission missionaries 00:02:56.36\00:03:00.00 are doing here on the island of Palawan. 00:03:00.03\00:03:02.20 And for us to be able to come in and support the work, 00:03:02.23\00:03:04.75 that they are already doing and make what they do better. 00:03:04.78\00:03:07.02 Make what they do more effective and safer, 00:03:07.05\00:03:10.26 is what we are really trying to do best. 00:03:10.29\00:03:12.00 The support that Adventist World Aviation will be providing 00:03:12.03\00:03:15.26 for this mission here on the island of Palawan and 00:03:15.29\00:03:19.05 in some surrounding areas as well, is a combination of 00:03:19.08\00:03:21.87 helicopter, and fixed-wing. Of course we traditionally 00:03:21.90\00:03:24.98 we've been about airplanes and they are still many great needs 00:03:25.01\00:03:29.00 that can be met with an airplane. 00:03:29.03\00:03:30.50 The unique needs of this particular project here in 00:03:30.53\00:03:33.86 Kamantian the island of many Mountains. 00:03:33.89\00:03:37.37 is the need for helicopter. But again a helicopter is designed 00:03:37.40\00:03:41.09 for close end support. 00:03:41.12\00:03:42.24 It is not really designed for long distant flying. 00:03:42.27\00:03:44.52 And so this island for example, the center section where the 00:03:44.56\00:03:49.42 mountains are steep is where we need to have a helicopter 00:03:49.45\00:03:51.41 available. However the helicopter needs to be supported 00:03:51.44\00:03:54.51 by an airplane as well. There is on the low lands on both sides 00:03:54.54\00:03:58.17 of the island will be reached by airplane. 00:03:58.20\00:04:01.76 And we can provide the support to those places, 00:04:01.79\00:04:04.62 so that the helicopter doesn't have to fly as far. 00:04:04.65\00:04:06.97 And so it's a comprehensive support that we'll be offering 00:04:07.02\00:04:11.41 of aviation including helicopters and airplanes. 00:04:11.44\00:04:14.33 Jud Wickwire, the director of operations for Adventist 00:04:14.53\00:04:18.12 World Aviation has come to visit the current project, 00:04:18.15\00:04:21.40 and to scout out and see what type of an impact a helicopter 00:04:21.43\00:04:25.81 could really have in this area. 00:04:25.84\00:04:27.40 But in order to reach this mission field, he must make 00:04:27.43\00:04:31.20 the grueling hike into the mountains himself. 00:04:31.23\00:04:33.62 As Jud makes the hike it becomes clear that the term "trail" 00:04:33.65\00:04:38.60 is a bit of an over statement. 00:04:38.63\00:04:40.75 For a large majority of the hike, the path is less than 6 00:04:40.78\00:04:44.51 inches wide, with steep drop offs right along the edge of 00:04:44.54\00:04:48.33 the mountain. 00:04:48.36\00:04:49.55 The path goes up steep mountainsides, through rivers 00:04:49.58\00:04:53.27 and over jungle vegetation. 00:04:53.30\00:04:55.09 As Jud makes this hike, he can very quickly see why so 00:04:55.12\00:04:59.86 many people do not make it to medical care in time 00:04:59.89\00:05:03.06 and die along the path. 00:05:03.09\00:05:04.56 This hike is a challenging one for a healthy person to make, 00:05:04.59\00:05:08.21 let alone someone who needs medical attention. 00:05:08.24\00:05:11.06 With each slippery step, the reason for placing a helicopter 00:05:11.09\00:05:15.37 here in Palawan, becomes more and more clear to Jud. 00:05:15.40\00:05:19.56 As Jud reaches the village, he takes a look around. 00:05:19.59\00:05:23.39 AFM has a very impressive mission post set up here 00:05:23.42\00:05:26.98 to service the indigenous mountain people. 00:05:27.01\00:05:29.74 There is a clinic, a church, a school, and missionary 00:05:29.77\00:05:33.93 housing to lodge the team of student missionary nurses. 00:05:33.96\00:05:37.11 The operation seems to be running very smoothly 00:05:37.14\00:05:40.39 and efficiently, except for the difficulty of travel 00:05:40.42\00:05:43.55 in and out of the village. 00:05:43.58\00:05:44.76 Jud has a candid conversation with Kent George, 00:05:45.46\00:05:48.29 the director of this project. 00:05:48.32\00:05:50.02 So, of course Adventist World Aviation is about aviation. 00:05:50.05\00:05:55.00 We want to be able to do aviation. Do it well! 00:05:55.50\00:05:59.81 Make that the thing that we do best. 00:05:59.84\00:06:01.72 You are with Adventist Frontier Missions 00:06:01.75\00:06:04.74 tell us what you do best. 00:06:04.77\00:06:08.07 Well, our big thing is on the ground. We are here working. 00:06:08.10\00:06:13.12 But when you work in an area like this, it's like an army. 00:06:13.15\00:06:17.70 An army going forward. They may be winning battles, 00:06:17.73\00:06:20.46 but if logistically they can't keep the supplies coming, 00:06:20.49\00:06:23.46 you can't keep going. And that is one of our big hassles. 00:06:23.49\00:06:27.77 Yeah, we have the possibilities here, but logistically 00:06:27.80\00:06:31.53 it is so difficult, that we can't take advantage 00:06:31.56\00:06:34.19 of some of the possibilities. So if we had somebody involved 00:06:34.22\00:06:39.84 in the logistical support, in the delivery and transportation 00:06:39.87\00:06:43.46 things like that, that makes more things happen. 00:06:43.49\00:06:47.64 Just looking around here and having hiked in on the trail, 00:06:47.67\00:06:52.14 just seeing what you do here in the community, the logistics 00:06:52.17\00:06:59.01 of the terrain what is the thing that you need the most here? 00:06:59.04\00:07:03.93 Well, there are a lot of things we need, but when it come to 00:07:04.54\00:07:08.20 hiking and transportation, a faster mode of transportation 00:07:08.23\00:07:13.73 is helpful, especially when there is a medical emergency, 00:07:13.76\00:07:17.18 things like that. It can mean the difference 00:07:17.21\00:07:19.55 between life and death. You get a lot of people, who die 00:07:19.58\00:07:23.67 Just because they weren't able to get to medical care in time. 00:07:23.70\00:07:27.88 And also for going into new areas. It's very very difficult 00:07:27.91\00:07:31.25 to go into new areas, because logistically the trails 00:07:31.28\00:07:36.80 is just very bad. The farthest place that we are trying to 00:07:36.83\00:07:41.19 open up is 12 hours hike away. We had missionaries there, 00:07:41.22\00:07:44.95 but right now we don't, because logistically it just has not 00:07:44.98\00:07:47.82 been worked out. We can't supervise it, 00:07:47.85\00:07:50.30 we can't keep an eye on things. 00:07:50.33\00:07:52.08 A method for better transportation would be 00:07:52.11\00:07:55.94 very helpful. I could tell you story after story about people 00:07:55.97\00:07:59.58 who have died because there was no way to get out quickly. 00:07:59.61\00:08:04.79 Right down here, behind us on a trail, where you hiked, 00:08:04.82\00:08:09.24 there is a young lady in her twenties, we were trying to 00:08:09.27\00:08:14.25 bring her to the clinic and she died on the trail. 00:08:14.28\00:08:17.02 Her grave is right there. 00:08:17.05\00:08:18.08 Almost within sight... 00:08:18.52\00:08:20.53 oh yeah, the grave is right there by the trail. 00:08:20.56\00:08:23.59 And I can tell you a lot of stories about people that 00:08:23.62\00:08:26.82 it was just too late. It was not enough time to get there. 00:08:26.85\00:08:30.10 One minute in the helicopter is equal to about one hour on foot. 00:08:30.39\00:08:35.81 Jud sees the very great needs that are present here, and he 00:08:36.22\00:08:40.03 strongly feels Adventist World Aviation can be 00:08:40.06\00:08:43.27 of great assistance - here. 00:08:43.30\00:08:45.53 The Georges have reached their limit to what they can 00:08:52.54\00:08:54.86 logistically accomplish with their mission. 00:08:54.89\00:08:57.18 Even though the neighboring villages are just 00:08:57.21\00:08:59.31 a few miles away, they simply do not have the ability 00:08:59.34\00:09:02.96 to reach these locations. 00:09:02.99\00:09:04.51 It is their prayer and dream to expand their ministry 00:09:04.54\00:09:08.72 to surrounding villages. 00:09:08.75\00:09:10.31 Their first and most important goal is to continue 00:09:10.34\00:09:13.78 to spread the gospel to the villages just beyond their reach 00:09:13.81\00:09:17.16 This can be easily accomplished with the vehicle of a helicopter 00:09:17.19\00:09:21.45 With a dependable aircraft, we can establish work 00:09:21.48\00:09:28.25 in further away areas, where we can establish schools, 00:09:28.28\00:09:33.68 and branch clinics and do gospel work as well. 00:09:33.71\00:09:38.31 So we are very - very eager to have reliable air support. 00:09:38.34\00:09:46.23 We believe that this is what will enhance and speed 00:09:46.26\00:09:51.74 taking the gospel to all the Palawano tribe. 00:09:51.77\00:09:55.21 The village in the mountains has undergone a tremendous 00:09:55.26\00:09:57.88 transformation since the Georges began working here 18 years ago. 00:09:57.91\00:10:02.42 When they first arrived, the villagers were heavily involved 00:10:02.45\00:10:06.13 with demonic worship and animism. 00:10:06.16\00:10:08.83 In these communities by nature animism is very - very strong. 00:10:08.86\00:10:14.29 Demonic worship, spirits, and really what it is 00:10:14.32\00:10:19.75 is all of these things are evil. 00:10:19.78\00:10:22.47 And they spend their entire life, they focus on ways to 00:10:22.50\00:10:28.06 protect them selves from one layer of evil by adding 00:10:28.09\00:10:32.59 another layer of evil. It's a life of fear. 00:10:32.62\00:10:36.25 When you can bring the hope of Jesus into their lives 00:10:36.28\00:10:39.86 they can put that aside and they can focus on living. 00:10:39.89\00:10:44.85 Living happy, productive lives. Lives with good family support. 00:10:44.88\00:10:50.36 education, they are more effective in what they do 00:10:50.39\00:10:58.23 for work. It just improves the entire society that they live in 00:10:58.26\00:11:04.81 I think the greatest transformation I can see, 00:11:04.92\00:11:08.68 is the eradication of the demonic forces, that 00:11:08.71\00:11:14.80 controlled them in the past. 00:11:14.83\00:11:16.33 I know that some people like to say, oh that just somebody's 00:11:17.34\00:11:20.23 imagination. It's not true. When they are talking about demonic 00:11:20.26\00:11:24.08 beings, they are talking about reality. And they said before 00:11:24.11\00:11:27.99 the missionaries came, it was very - very common to see 00:11:28.02\00:11:32.42 demonic apparitions all these kind of things. 00:11:32.45\00:11:34.82 Even after the missionaries had come, 00:11:34.85\00:11:38.10 we still struggled with that. 00:11:38.13\00:11:40.49 A major - major problem is that the devil does his best 00:11:40.52\00:11:44.79 to do things to make people fear just to cause no end of trouble. 00:11:44.82\00:11:51.28 But the neat thing is for them to learn that, through Christ, 00:11:51.31\00:11:54.86 that Christ is stronger than the devil and he is subservient 00:11:54.89\00:12:00.80 to Jesus, so you are no longer controlled by the devil 00:12:00.83\00:12:05.07 and his activity. 00:12:05.10\00:12:07.38 The Georges built a house and began living with the people. 00:12:07.79\00:12:11.41 They made a commitment for the long haul. 00:12:11.44\00:12:14.16 They learned the local language, became friends with the people. 00:12:14.19\00:12:18.05 and most importantly they shared the love of Jesus Christ. 00:12:18.08\00:12:22.06 Establishing a church in this area has completely 00:12:22.09\00:12:25.89 transformed the lives of those in this region. 00:12:25.92\00:12:28.46 Each week they come together for church in a simple bamboo hut. 00:12:28.49\00:12:33.09 and listen attentively, as the simple Bible truths 00:12:33.12\00:12:36.81 are explained to them. 00:12:36.84\00:12:38.06 Most of them had never heard any Biblical principles before. 00:12:38.09\00:12:41.44 The power of the word of God completely changed this village. 00:12:41.47\00:12:45.67 You are also working with people who really have to go far - far 00:12:45.70\00:12:51.60 back to the beginning of what salvation really is. 00:12:51.63\00:12:54.87 That takes a long time, because it's so sharply different. 00:12:54.90\00:12:59.91 They have no history what so ever of knowing Jesus in any way 00:12:59.94\00:13:05.28 And so teaching them just the basic information 00:13:05.31\00:13:12.12 about Jesus' love for them. And where they can place their faith 00:13:12.15\00:13:17.21 where they can learn to put aside their spirits and 00:13:17.24\00:13:23.95 devil worship and those things that keep them captive now. 00:13:23.98\00:13:30.74 Hold their lives in hostage with these things. And now 00:13:30.77\00:13:33.81 it just takes a long time to transform someone from 00:13:33.84\00:13:37.97 that state into really understanding Jesus' love and 00:13:38.00\00:13:41.32 and how they can be saved by accepting that salvation. 00:13:41.35\00:13:45.75 So we just have to look at different methods, 00:13:46.05\00:13:48.87 and different places that work effectively. 00:13:48.90\00:13:52.18 It really takes a long time, long term process in these 00:13:52.40\00:13:56.84 in these remote communities. 00:13:56.87\00:13:58.77 You see religion is the very foundation of everything. 00:13:58.80\00:14:01.97 It's your world view, it's your view of the universe. 00:14:02.00\00:14:04.29 And so when you change that world view from demon worship 00:14:04.32\00:14:09.17 to Christianity, to true Christianity, worshiping God, 00:14:09.20\00:14:13.15 it changes every aspect. It changes the way you think, 00:14:13.18\00:14:18.08 the way you eat, the way you dress, the way you relate with 00:14:18.11\00:14:23.42 other human beings. It is just totally transformational. 00:14:23.45\00:14:28.43 Most of the people in the mountains are unable 00:14:29.04\00:14:31.16 to read and write. 00:14:31.19\00:14:32.62 This greatly hinders them and keeps them separated from 00:14:32.65\00:14:35.72 the rest of the world. 00:14:35.75\00:14:36.99 The Georges have started a literacy program for both 00:14:37.02\00:14:40.42 children and adults. 00:14:40.45\00:14:41.77 These weekly classes are not only teaching them the basics 00:14:41.80\00:14:45.52 of mathematics and reading, but they are offering them 00:14:45.55\00:14:48.53 so much more. 00:14:48.56\00:14:49.77 If the Palawano people can learn to read, then they are 00:14:49.80\00:14:53.50 empowered to read the Bible for themselves. 00:14:53.53\00:14:56.13 The ability to read scripture has and will continue 00:14:56.16\00:14:59.66 to positively transform lives here. 00:14:59.69\00:15:03.07 AFM here, has been here for many years. The work that they are 00:15:03.10\00:15:07.56 doing, is transforming the communities over the long term. 00:15:07.59\00:15:13.81 It's not something that happens quickly, it takes years to make 00:15:13.84\00:15:16.32 the changes that they see in this community here. 00:15:16.35\00:15:18.58 I find it when you come in, you learn to speak the language 00:15:18.61\00:15:22.15 of the people, you become one with the people, it's like they 00:15:22.18\00:15:25.76 just become your family you are truly learning to love them. 00:15:25.79\00:15:28.92 You are not doing it just because it's a job, it's a 00:15:28.95\00:15:32.47 vacation option, or something like that. 00:15:32.50\00:15:35.57 When you truly, truly care about people, that's when 00:15:35.60\00:15:39.44 the changes really start taking place. 00:15:39.47\00:15:41.87 If it is just something just superficial, the results 00:15:41.90\00:15:48.58 will be superficial. I'd like to see something that will 00:15:48.61\00:15:54.80 change things for the long-haul. If it just changes it for the 00:15:54.83\00:15:57.96 moment, and when you come back in a year, it's all gone. 00:15:57.99\00:16:00.78 To me it's not worth doing that. For me, if I spend the rest of 00:16:00.81\00:16:06.08 my life here. I want to know that when eternity comes, 00:16:06.11\00:16:10.09 I will be able to see that I made a big difference. 00:16:10.12\00:16:13.01 People say, what do you come in here for? Is it baptism? 00:16:13.04\00:16:18.48 Is it to start churches? I struggled with that for 00:16:18.51\00:16:20.99 a long time. And finally I distilled it down to the most 00:16:21.02\00:16:25.30 important thing to me is to see people in the kingdom of Heaven. 00:16:25.33\00:16:30.05 If I baptize them, If I start churches, but those people 00:16:30.08\00:16:33.94 never make it to Heaven, what good have I done. 00:16:33.97\00:16:36.09 Nothing what so ever. 00:16:36.12\00:16:37.48 So I am here, because I want to see people in the Kingdom. 00:16:37.51\00:16:41.52 The reach of the Bible message is unfortunately limited 00:16:41.82\00:16:44.85 to as far as the Georges are able to walk. 00:16:44.88\00:16:47.90 There are hundreds of neighboring villages across 00:16:47.93\00:16:50.68 the valley that are unreached simple because of the terrain. 00:16:50.71\00:16:54.55 Sadly, there are thousands of lives, that have not yet been 00:16:54.58\00:16:58.32 touched by the love of God in these mountains. 00:16:58.35\00:17:00.71 Going on foot, is so far, it's so laborious and so slow. 00:17:01.01\00:17:06.39 There are some areas, that are just impossible 00:17:06.42\00:17:08.83 to get into those areas. Right now it is impossible 00:17:08.86\00:17:13.95 to really sustain a work there, because its just so difficult 00:17:13.98\00:17:17.26 to get there. 00:17:17.29\00:17:18.61 With a helicopter, it may get possible to put somebody 00:17:18.64\00:17:23.44 in there and then keep them supported as they work there. 00:17:23.47\00:17:28.92 And to check up on them, see what's going on. 00:17:28.95\00:17:31.35 It just gives all sorts of great possibilities. 00:17:31.38\00:17:36.88 As Judd's trip comes to an end, it's become very, very clear 00:17:37.58\00:17:42.07 to him, that a helicopter is desperately needed here. 00:17:42.10\00:17:46.00 If Adventist World Aviation were able to place a 00:17:46.03\00:17:49.21 helicopter in this mission field the opportunities to provide 00:17:49.24\00:17:53.02 logistical support to this area would be endless. 00:17:53.05\00:17:55.62 As a result of my own field survey here. Just seeing 00:17:56.13\00:18:00.65 first hand, just really how rugged the mountains are. 00:18:00.68\00:18:04.09 Getting in here is uphill, down hill, or side hill. 00:18:08.70\00:18:11.76 there is virtually no flat ground what so ever. 00:18:11.79\00:18:15.89 Which just leaves no place for airplanes to land 00:18:16.80\00:18:19.72 and the only solution to reach these communities to support 00:18:19.75\00:18:24.04 the AFM missionaries here, is with a helicopter. 00:18:24.07\00:18:26.51 What makes a helicopter particularly effective 00:18:27.02\00:18:29.23 in this area, is that the distances are so short. 00:18:29.26\00:18:33.49 The time to walk between the communities is hours and hours. 00:18:33.52\00:18:38.02 But the distance in a straight line, straight across the valley 00:18:38.05\00:18:41.48 or around the mountain, is just a very few miles 00:18:41.51\00:18:45.54 and it just takes a few minutes in a helicopter. 00:18:45.57\00:18:47.26 I mean helicopters are designed for close end support. 00:18:47.30\00:18:50.51 They are not designed for flying long distances. 00:18:50.54\00:18:52.42 We have airplanes, that fly hundreds of miles. 00:18:52.45\00:18:54.38 We have helicopters to fly - in this case 5-10-20 miles 00:18:54.41\00:18:59.54 the distance that we are looking at, which is really the close 00:18:59.57\00:19:03.63 end support the helicopters are best designed for. 00:19:03.66\00:19:06.10 After hearing all of the logistical challenges, that 00:19:06.16\00:19:08.67 this mission faces on a daily basis. Jud is impressed to call 00:19:08.70\00:19:13.15 Ric Swaningson, president of Adventist World Aviation. 00:19:13.18\00:19:16.81 Hi Jud 00:19:16.84\00:19:17.87 Hey Ric. Yeah I am here in the Philippines. I've been 00:19:17.90\00:19:21.08 up in the mountains and to Kamantian. 00:19:21.11\00:19:24.55 I had a look around the project there. 00:19:24.58\00:19:27.82 Just looking for ways, that we can continue to support them. 00:19:28.22\00:19:32.79 Well, tell me about our operations there and how you 00:19:33.20\00:19:40.36 feel we can be best serving our Philippino brothers and sisters. 00:19:40.39\00:19:46.13 Well, really the only thing we can do here is a helicopter. 00:19:46.16\00:19:49.68 A helicopter? 00:19:49.71\00:19:51.45 There is just no place, that we can use an airplane up here. 00:19:51.48\00:19:56.80 Wow, of course as you know we are about aviation, but that 00:19:56.83\00:20:02.09 kind of stretches our faith a little bit because helicopters 00:20:02.12\00:20:07.00 are a little bit expensive to maintain and the initial cost 00:20:07.03\00:20:11.87 of helicopters also quite high as well. 00:20:11.90\00:20:15.29 Yeah, I know that they are, but you know what's different here 00:20:16.08\00:20:21.86 is that we are looking at very - very short distances. 00:20:21.89\00:20:26.08 I mean the total range of the project is only 20 or 30 miles 00:20:26.11\00:20:30.02 at the very, very most. We can with careful organization 00:20:30.05\00:20:36.60 and planning. We can in just an hour's worth of flying with 00:20:36.63\00:20:40.01 a helicopter we can do really a lot of work. 00:20:40.04\00:20:41.96 We've reached the limit of what they can do on foot. 00:20:41.99\00:20:44.17 And the only way to expand, the only way for them to plan 00:20:44.20\00:20:47.62 on their expansion, is to know that they'll have 00:20:47.65\00:20:52.13 helicopter support to do so. 00:20:52.16\00:20:54.21 Well Jud, it sounds like we need to be thinking about 00:20:54.42\00:20:58.21 a helicopter in the Philippines. If we are going to be able 00:20:58.24\00:21:01.50 to service our northern Palawan area, 00:21:01.53\00:21:04.39 in the mountainous regions. 00:21:04.42\00:21:05.86 Having helicopter here would not only enhance what they do here 00:21:05.89\00:21:12.84 in a tremendous way, but it will also allow them to expand 00:21:12.87\00:21:17.39 into areas that are beyond where they can currently travel to, 00:21:17.42\00:21:22.08 and do so safely. 00:21:22.11\00:21:25.30 That's exciting Jud! 00:21:26.69\00:21:27.90 Well listen, let's have prayer about it. And you know I think 00:21:27.93\00:21:32.40 it sounds like that's the direction we need to go. 00:21:32.43\00:21:35.13 So I think as the president, I have to agree 00:21:35.16\00:21:38.28 with my director of operation. 00:21:38.31\00:21:40.01 The conversation ends in consensus. 00:21:40.04\00:21:42.16 Adventist World Aviation is greatly needed here to help 00:21:42.19\00:21:45.27 provide logistical support to this existing ministry. 00:21:45.30\00:21:48.62 And a helicopter is just the tool they need. 00:21:48.65\00:21:51.83 It is always the goal of AWA to support the world wide 00:21:51.86\00:21:55.63 Adventist Church and work in partnership together 00:21:55.66\00:21:58.52 to grow the kingdom of God. 00:21:58.55\00:22:00.05 After receiving Judd's report, President Ric Swaningson 00:22:07.31\00:22:10.66 sets out to do his own field survey. 00:22:10.69\00:22:12.91 He is going to inspect and get more information about the 00:22:12.94\00:22:16.41 Robinson 44 helicopter, to see if it will be a good fit 00:22:16.44\00:22:20.44 in the mission field. 00:22:20.47\00:22:21.78 We are standing here in front of a Robinson 44. 00:22:21.81\00:22:24.32 This is the aircraft that we would like to see 00:22:24.35\00:22:27.43 in the Philippines. It's a 4 passenger aircraft. 00:22:27.46\00:22:31.08 A 4 passenger helicopter, with the light coming engine. 00:22:31.11\00:22:34.07 2,000 hour TBO on most of the maintenance items, or all of the 00:22:34.10\00:22:38.39 maintenance items, if I understand correctly. 00:22:38.42\00:22:40.62 It's an incredible aircraft. Very inexpensive to operate 00:22:40.65\00:22:47.38 as aircrafts go. Typically the cost of running these are just 00:22:47.41\00:22:54.11 It's cost prohibitive, you just can't even talk about it. 00:22:54.14\00:22:56.87 But on this particular one. the Robinson 44 and Robinson 22 00:22:56.90\00:23:00.85 low cost on maintenance. So we are very excited about it! 00:23:00.88\00:23:04.66 Not only that, but the fuel burn is also equivalent to that which 00:23:04.69\00:23:09.19 we fly on a fixed wing aircraft. Like a 182, which is flying the 00:23:09.22\00:23:13.13 yellow bird, the pathfinder bird in Guyana. 00:23:13.16\00:23:16.09 Or the 206. About 15 gallons an hour. Somewhere in that 00:23:16.12\00:23:19.78 neighborhood. It's incredible the fuel burn on these things. 00:23:19.81\00:23:24.56 The payload is wonderful. You can fit 4 passengers in here 00:23:24.59\00:23:28.08 very easily. And not worry about over grossing it. 00:23:28.11\00:23:31.29 The safety factor on the R44 is at the top of the chain. 00:23:31.32\00:23:35.12 So we are very pleased with the possibility of obtaining 00:23:35.15\00:23:38.15 a Robinson 44. We are really looking at this one here for the 00:23:38.18\00:23:43.67 for the Philippines. 00:23:43.70\00:23:44.83 After much research and prayer, Adventist World 00:23:44.86\00:23:48.98 Aviation has in faith decided to move forward 00:23:49.01\00:23:52.47 with obtaining a Robinson 44, to be placed in the Philippines. 00:23:52.50\00:23:56.69 Please keep Adventist World Aviation in your prayers, 00:23:56.72\00:24:00.28 as they embark on this exciting endeavor. 00:24:00.31\00:24:03.10 Adding a helicopter to their fleet is both an expensive 00:24:03.13\00:24:06.78 and challenging part of growth. 00:24:06.81\00:24:08.79 However, this does not detour the AWA leadership. 00:24:08.82\00:24:12.20 They are sure that God will provide a way for His work. 00:24:12.23\00:24:16.79 So Adventist World Aviation is proud to support 00:24:16.82\00:24:19.78 Adventist Frontier Missionaries. 00:24:19.81\00:24:21.10 You know, we are not just about Adventist World Aviation. 00:24:21.13\00:24:23.58 We don't have to be the star of the program, or show if you will 00:24:23.61\00:24:26.61 But we are happy to support AFM and ministries like AFM. 00:24:26.64\00:24:30.90 They have been here on the main island of southern Palawan 00:24:30.93\00:24:35.80 for I guess over 20 years now. We've been scratching our heads 00:24:35.83\00:24:40.15 wondering. How can we help them? Well, just recently we sent 00:24:40.18\00:24:43.92 our director of operations up in the mountains to take a look 00:24:43.95\00:24:46.80 and see what we could do. The answer comes back - helicopters. 00:24:46.83\00:24:50.17 And so we're happy to be able to support them. 00:24:50.20\00:24:53.16 Again, we are about logistics, we are about 00:24:53.19\00:24:54.84 getting the work done! 00:24:54.87\00:24:56.24 Sometimes we're involved in getting work done, 00:24:56.27\00:24:58.31 sometimes we're about helping others to get the work done. 00:24:58.34\00:25:02.17 The important thing is, that this work gets done. 00:25:02.20\00:25:04.98 The message of Jesus Christ. 00:25:05.01\00:25:07.28 The Gospel message of Matthew 28:19-20. 00:25:07.31\00:25:10.11 The Three Angels Message of Revelation 14 chapters 6 thru 12 00:25:10.14\00:25:13.68 how do we get that out? 00:25:13.71\00:25:15.19 Unless we deliver a messenger to do just that. 00:25:15.22\00:25:18.60 I believe that God has told each of us as believers as Christians 00:25:19.52\00:25:26.72 to spread the gospel, to all the world, that's our mandate 00:25:26.93\00:25:33.94 from Matthew, but I believe that God has given each of us 00:25:33.97\00:25:39.44 different gifts and different talents and different resources. 00:25:39.47\00:25:43.77 It takes all of us, in all the various ways that we can work 00:25:43.80\00:25:47.65 for the Lord, working together we'll be able to eventually 00:25:47.68\00:25:52.09 realize the Gospel to all the world. 00:25:52.12\00:25:54.05 We know, that not everyone can go into a remote tribe 00:25:54.08\00:26:00.32 like we have, and live there. 00:26:00.35\00:26:02.25 But we do know, that God has many more people on His heart, 00:26:02.28\00:26:08.82 that He would love to send people to and we just trust that 00:26:08.85\00:26:14.09 God will impress your hearts on how you can be a part of this 00:26:14.12\00:26:17.36 work, or may be part of God's work, no matter where it is. 00:26:17.39\00:26:20.31 What I find is the more you give the more you love. 00:26:20.34\00:26:23.93 But if you give a little bit, you love a little bit. 00:26:23.96\00:26:27.03 If you give a whole lot, you learn to love a whole lot. 00:26:27.06\00:26:30.14 That's what Christianity is truly all about. 00:26:30.17\00:26:32.31 It's about loving people and caring for people. 00:26:32.34\00:26:34.63 You know the doctrines and all those things are very important 00:26:34.66\00:26:37.65 in their own place, but the very heart of it, is people. 00:26:37.68\00:26:42.60 And caring about people and saying these are my people. 00:26:42.63\00:26:46.89 This is my family, and I want to spend eternity with them. 00:26:46.92\00:26:51.63 And so for me, I say when we get to Heaven... 00:26:51.66\00:26:54.35 You know in the new earth, they are talking about geographic 00:26:54.38\00:26:59.44 places. They are talking about the Mount of Olives, 00:26:59.47\00:27:01.37 and a place like that. You know in the new earth if there is 00:27:01.40\00:27:04.32 a Mount of Olives. That means in the new earth there is 00:27:04.35\00:27:06.87 very likely a Palawan.
