All over the world, dedicated men and women 00:00:14.00\00:00:17.18 members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:00:17.21\00:00:19.56 are using their talents and abilities 00:00:19.59\00:00:22.17 to spread the gospel to their friends and neighbors. 00:00:22.20\00:00:25.63 In many places, these individuals 00:00:25.66\00:00:28.38 have joined together to start self supporting institutions 00:00:28.41\00:00:32.98 using lifestyle education, publishing work 00:00:33.01\00:00:37.40 and training centers as a vehicle 00:00:37.43\00:00:39.92 for furthering God's work. 00:00:39.95\00:00:42.89 Join us today on OCI Reports 00:00:42.92\00:00:45.89 as we visit one of the pioneering 00:00:45.92\00:00:48.55 self supporting institutions, 00:00:48.58\00:00:50.75 Wildwood Lifestyle Center and Hospital. 00:00:50.78\00:00:53.80 Self supporting ministries derive their guidance 00:01:09.99\00:01:13.17 and inspiration from the Bible 00:01:13.20\00:01:15.44 and more specifically from the writings of Ellen White. 00:01:15.47\00:01:19.79 These principles were given a practical demonstration 00:01:19.82\00:01:23.92 in the early 1900s. 00:01:23.95\00:01:26.90 In 1904, two of Adventism's premier educators 00:01:26.93\00:01:32.25 E.A. Sutherland and Percy T. Megan 00:01:32.28\00:01:35.66 were looking in Tennessee to start a new ministry. 00:01:35.69\00:01:40.05 In 1904 in God's providence, they were led to a farm 00:01:40.08\00:01:45.30 on the outskirts of the city of Nashville. 00:01:45.33\00:01:48.28 There they began Madison School, 00:01:48.31\00:01:51.29 the first self supporting institution. 00:01:51.32\00:01:54.89 In later years Ellen White would write, 00:01:54.92\00:01:57.47 "That there should be many schools 00:01:57.50\00:01:59.55 after the Madison Order." 00:01:59.58\00:02:02.61 In the 1940s Neil Martin, Dr. George McClure 00:02:02.64\00:02:07.50 and Pastor W.D. Frazee decided to follow Ellen White's counsel. 00:02:07.53\00:02:14.46 In counsel with the presidents 00:02:14.49\00:02:16.33 of the Georgia-Cumberland Conference 00:02:16.36\00:02:18.02 and the Southern Union, 00:02:18.05\00:02:19.73 it was decided that a self supporting ministry 00:02:19.76\00:02:22.50 should be started this time outside the city of Chattanooga. 00:02:22.53\00:02:28.26 In 1942, just a few weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, 00:02:28.29\00:02:33.30 Wildwood Lifestyle Center and Hospital was born. 00:02:33.33\00:02:38.24 Over the years, Wildwood's vision 00:02:38.27\00:02:40.84 and outreach has continued to grow. 00:02:40.87\00:02:43.28 Countless people have been blessed by the lifestyle center 00:02:43.31\00:02:46.56 and numerous students have been trained. 00:02:46.59\00:02:49.77 Many of these students have gone out 00:02:49.80\00:02:51.85 to pioneer new self supporting works in different places. 00:02:51.88\00:02:55.91 Throughout North America to Japan, 00:02:55.94\00:02:58.27 South America and Africa are many self supporting projects 00:02:58.30\00:03:03.09 that have ties that bring them back to Wildwood. 00:03:03.12\00:03:06.99 In the nearly 1980s Warren Wilson, 00:03:07.02\00:03:10.51 then the president of Wildwood 00:03:10.54\00:03:12.54 saw the need for an organization that would help nurture 00:03:12.57\00:03:16.10 these new self supporting ministries. 00:03:16.13\00:03:19.17 It was in this way that OCI was created. 00:03:19.20\00:03:22.62 Today the vision of Wildwood is still strong. 00:03:23.61\00:03:27.41 Wildwood continues to be a vibrant and thriving ministry. 00:03:27.44\00:03:31.34 This year is Wildwood's 70th anniversary 00:03:34.50\00:03:38.54 and it started as a small organization as it were 00:03:38.57\00:03:42.51 under the leadership of Elder Frazee. 00:03:42.54\00:03:46.87 The very first group of people who came to Wildwood 00:03:46.90\00:03:49.75 on January 1st, 1942, were 8 to 10 individuals 00:03:49.78\00:03:55.51 who were known as the Frazee Evangelistic Company. 00:03:55.54\00:03:58.71 The motivation for starting Wildwood 00:03:58.74\00:04:01.27 was born out of a city evangelistic group 00:04:01.30\00:04:05.26 that wanted to train other teens to continue the work 00:04:05.29\00:04:09.12 of gospel medical evangelism in the cities of the world. 00:04:09.15\00:04:14.19 By spring they had an educational program begun. 00:04:14.22\00:04:18.09 And before the summer was over the Frazee's themselves 00:04:18.12\00:04:22.13 moved into a tent and they began receiving 00:04:22.16\00:04:25.85 people that they could help and assist here 00:04:25.88\00:04:28.15 even before they had the sanitarium built. 00:04:28.18\00:04:31.53 Wildwood was built on prayer and faith and miracles 00:04:31.56\00:04:37.01 and there are untold stories of prayer and faith 00:04:37.04\00:04:41.50 and miracles that enabled each of the buildings 00:04:41.53\00:04:44.40 to take place at Wildwood, especially the main ones, 00:04:44.43\00:04:46.98 the first sanitarium building, Pascal Hall building. 00:04:47.01\00:04:50.07 What they call the new sanitarium building 00:04:53.21\00:04:55.14 which is now an old building. 00:04:55.17\00:04:57.25 Our hospital was opened here in the 70s 00:04:59.53\00:05:02.29 which is of course now is an older building 00:05:02.32\00:05:04.90 and through the years it's slowly grown. 00:05:04.93\00:05:08.88 We have just over a hundred staff working 00:05:08.91\00:05:11.97 here on our campus in our different departments. 00:05:12.00\00:05:15.06 The longevity of Wildwood 00:05:15.09\00:05:17.19 has given it a fairly solid foundation. 00:05:17.22\00:05:20.73 The principles it stands for have stood the test of time. 00:05:20.76\00:05:24.55 And it's a privilege for me to serve 00:05:24.58\00:05:27.30 in a ministry of this type of nature. 00:05:27.33\00:05:30.45 I fully expect God to keep performing those miracles 00:05:30.48\00:05:33.89 in order to keep training until medical missionary work 00:05:33.92\00:05:38.05 covers the earth like the waters cover the sea. 00:05:38.08\00:05:40.47 Our reason for existence and our mission 00:05:43.66\00:05:46.76 is to tell others about Christ and leading souls to Him, 00:05:46.79\00:05:50.89 in unique ways of ministering to people's health needs, 00:05:50.92\00:05:55.07 the emotional needs and then meeting their spiritual needs 00:05:55.10\00:05:58.65 and sharing Christ with them. 00:05:58.68\00:06:03.34 One of the things we are best known for 00:06:03.37\00:06:05.88 is our lifestyle center and hospital 00:06:05.91\00:06:08.99 with our outpatient clinic. 00:06:09.02\00:06:11.13 The clinic that we have here is a day patient clinic. 00:06:11.16\00:06:14.05 People come from all over local areas 00:06:14.08\00:06:17.59 and sometimes 2-3 hours away to come and see our doctors. 00:06:17.62\00:06:21.42 And we find that we are able to see sometimes 00:06:21.45\00:06:25.29 10 to 15 people on a day. 00:06:25.32\00:06:29.23 That's a 13 bed hospital, a very small hospital 00:06:29.26\00:06:31.51 but one of the things that makes this hospital and facility 00:06:31.54\00:06:35.10 very unique compared to other lifestyle programs 00:06:35.13\00:06:38.19 is the fact that we have a licensed hospital. 00:06:38.22\00:06:40.73 And so sometimes when we have patients 00:06:40.76\00:06:43.18 come to our lifestyle program 00:06:43.21\00:06:45.17 and the condition is a little bit more severe 00:06:45.20\00:06:47.21 than we'd like to handle in a lifestyle program, 00:06:47.24\00:06:50.67 we're able to transfer them to the hospital 00:06:50.70\00:06:52.62 for a little bit more urgent care. 00:06:52.65\00:06:55.63 I have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 00:06:55.66\00:06:59.97 and I know that biblically nothing is impossible with God. 00:07:00.00\00:07:07.15 And there are promises in the Bible 00:07:07.18\00:07:08.92 that He will heal all our diseases 00:07:08.95\00:07:12.72 and sometimes it may not happen overnight. 00:07:12.75\00:07:16.10 But I believe in what they do here at Wildwood 00:07:16.13\00:07:19.19 with simple remedies, with water treatments, 00:07:19.22\00:07:23.83 I have been getting physical therapy, 00:07:23.86\00:07:26.92 I have the encouragement of all the staff here, 00:07:26.95\00:07:30.72 the biblical promises and I feel encouraged 00:07:30.75\00:07:34.69 because there is hope 00:07:34.72\00:07:37.21 and it's a journey of walking with the Lord. 00:07:37.24\00:07:41.40 And just being healthy, you know, 00:07:41.43\00:07:43.19 getting outside getting the fresh air. 00:07:43.22\00:07:46.69 This place is so beautiful 00:07:46.72\00:07:49.75 and I feel like it's a little heaven on earth... 00:07:49.78\00:07:54.19 and it's wonderful. 00:07:55.83\00:07:57.38 The program that we offer here being an 11 or 25 day option, 00:08:00.67\00:08:04.45 offers them some wonderful natural remedies 00:08:04.48\00:08:07.99 that will help them to get off medications. 00:08:08.02\00:08:11.31 And if they have cancer, they may not always need to do 00:08:11.34\00:08:14.31 chemotherapy or radiation 00:08:14.34\00:08:16.24 and they can have natural treatments. 00:08:16.27\00:08:18.49 Diabetics can learn how to reverse their diabetes 00:08:18.52\00:08:22.44 and people will learn how to reverse their condition 00:08:22.47\00:08:25.53 in natural ways. 00:08:25.56\00:08:27.59 I've had depression for years. 00:08:27.62\00:08:29.68 And then a little bit of high blood pressure 00:08:29.71\00:08:31.65 and as you can see, I am a little bit overweight. 00:08:31.68\00:08:35.12 So those were my main complaints. 00:08:35.15\00:08:36.50 Plus, I had bad habits, smoking, drinking, 00:08:36.53\00:08:40.91 I had a lot of stuff to clean up. 00:08:40.94\00:08:43.21 And it's been great since I have been here. 00:08:43.24\00:08:45.54 I haven't had a cigarette. 00:08:45.57\00:08:46.60 Gave my cigarettes right over 00:08:46.63\00:08:48.70 to my counselor. 00:08:48.73\00:08:50.76 I haven't had a craving. 00:08:50.79\00:08:52.35 My blood pressure phenomenally is as low as it's ever been 00:08:52.38\00:08:56.02 before I had high blood pressure, you know. 00:08:56.05\00:08:58.17 Well, it's a lifestyle change that we teach people. 00:08:58.20\00:09:02.20 We'll give them hydrotherapy daily. 00:09:02.23\00:09:04.49 We'll offer them massages every second day. 00:09:04.52\00:09:07.71 We also offer cooking classes during the 11 or 25 days. 00:09:07.74\00:09:11.47 Hands on cooking instruction or otherwise demonstrations. 00:09:11.50\00:09:15.47 The types of food that we serve 00:09:15.50\00:09:17.11 in the diet kitchen is vegan based. 00:09:17.14\00:09:19.48 We believe that a plant based diet is beneficial 00:09:19.51\00:09:23.08 in reversing health conditions 00:09:23.11\00:09:24.77 along with other types of natural treatments. 00:09:24.80\00:09:28.32 Sunshine and daily exercise, drinking enough water 00:09:28.35\00:09:32.47 and not eating in between meals and things like that 00:09:32.50\00:09:34.76 are very, very important to reversal 00:09:34.79\00:09:36.93 of different poor health conditions. 00:09:36.96\00:09:40.19 We offer counseling, 00:09:40.22\00:09:41.74 we've got a chaplain and a professional counselor. 00:09:41.77\00:09:45.06 We have lifestyle coaches that take care of them. 00:09:45.09\00:09:47.81 We've got lectures every day. 00:09:47.84\00:09:50.09 It's very important that they know the background 00:09:50.12\00:09:52.26 as to lifestyle change. 00:09:52.29\00:09:54.21 We also offer doctor's consultations 00:09:54.24\00:09:57.09 during the program. 00:09:57.12\00:09:58.65 Blood work at the beginning and end of the program. 00:09:58.68\00:10:01.40 Our doctors also prescribe herbs 00:10:01.43\00:10:03.74 which is very important for the natural healing. 00:10:03.77\00:10:06.61 And above all, trust in God, 00:10:06.64\00:10:08.41 because without God we cannot heal our bodies. 00:10:08.44\00:10:11.16 I think that health message is one of the most effective ways 00:10:13.81\00:10:17.77 to reach people that are not open to just receiving Christ. 00:10:17.80\00:10:23.08 And so, if you look at Christ and how He did it, 00:10:23.11\00:10:25.21 He healed the people. 00:10:25.24\00:10:26.27 He met them where they were, He helped their needs. 00:10:26.30\00:10:29.26 And so the health message 00:10:29.29\00:10:31.62 is the hand that opens the door to the people's heart. 00:10:31.65\00:10:34.30 And then we'll make the way for Christ to come in. 00:10:34.33\00:10:39.41 We are really blessed that we've been able to 00:10:39.44\00:10:41.69 do some renovations at this point in time 00:10:41.72\00:10:43.89 due to some very generous donations 00:10:43.92\00:10:46.12 that we've recently received. 00:10:46.15\00:10:47.97 We've recently remodeled our diet kitchen, 00:10:48.00\00:10:50.56 it was in great need of repair and remodeling. 00:10:50.59\00:10:53.79 And we've also been able to do some renovations 00:10:53.82\00:10:56.93 to our rooms that don't all have their own showers. 00:10:56.96\00:10:59.63 So we're in the process of doing full bathrooms 00:10:59.66\00:11:02.91 to our lifestyle and hospital rooms. 00:11:02.94\00:11:06.85 One of the most exciting new developments 00:11:06.88\00:11:08.86 with our health work is that we have a new Vice President 00:11:08.89\00:11:11.84 for Medical Affairs, Dr. Zeno Charles-Marcel. 00:11:11.87\00:11:15.20 He comes in with a lot of energy and experience 00:11:15.23\00:11:19.23 and, you know, to have him here 00:11:19.26\00:11:21.08 is really an amazing blessing for Wildwood. 00:11:21.11\00:11:24.13 The other aspect that we have on our campus 00:11:24.16\00:11:26.15 is the Journal of Health and Healing. 00:11:26.18\00:11:28.48 It's a magazine that has met a real need for people out there 00:11:28.51\00:11:34.26 that are looking for answers to the current dilemmas in health. 00:11:34.29\00:11:39.75 Right now we are looking for an editor 00:11:39.78\00:11:43.55 that can keep the scientific standard 00:11:43.58\00:11:46.81 that our journal has met through the years. 00:11:46.84\00:11:49.47 If there are physicians that are willing to get involved 00:11:49.50\00:11:52.44 with us on this project, it would be a real benefit 00:11:52.47\00:11:57.10 as we send these journals out and distribute them. 00:11:57.13\00:12:01.87 Devising ways of not only reaching the community 00:12:01.90\00:12:05.77 but also generating income 00:12:05.80\00:12:08.47 is part of the vision of self supporting work. 00:12:08.50\00:12:12.43 In a moment we'll explore some of the avenues 00:12:12.46\00:12:15.76 that Wildwood is using to attain this goal. 00:12:15.79\00:12:20.71 Pain, suffering and hopelessness are everywhere we look. 00:12:20.74\00:12:25.12 As Christians we know that the ultimate answer is Jesus. 00:12:25.15\00:12:28.59 We are called to bring people to Him 00:12:28.62\00:12:31.01 as well as to share His love in practical ways. 00:12:31.04\00:12:34.42 Can you imagine the difference it would make 00:12:34.45\00:12:36.89 if every church member did all that we can to share our hope? 00:12:36.92\00:12:41.36 That's what OCI is all about. 00:12:41.39\00:12:43.50 Lay people using their skills to reach their communities 00:12:43.53\00:12:47.74 and bring change, whether through lifestyle centers 00:12:47.77\00:12:50.70 or schools, restaurants or clinics, 00:12:50.73\00:12:54.11 the methods are diverse but the goal is the same. 00:12:54.14\00:12:57.36 To bring hope and healing to our dying world. 00:12:57.39\00:13:00.30 In order for this work to continue, prayer, 00:13:00.33\00:13:03.81 workers and funding are all necessary. 00:13:03.84\00:13:06.44 When you support OCI, you support the work 00:13:06.47\00:13:09.60 of more than 80 ministries around the world. 00:13:09.63\00:13:13.31 For more information about how you can become involved, 00:13:13.34\00:13:16.40 please contact us anytime. 00:13:16.43\00:13:20.65 Restaurants and health food stores have long been 00:13:20.68\00:13:24.07 part of a broader ministry 00:13:24.10\00:13:26.58 within the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:13:26.61\00:13:29.88 Wildwood's country store which is located on the campus 00:13:29.91\00:13:34.36 gives the workers an opportunity to meet and mingle 00:13:34.39\00:13:38.08 with the surrounding community, 00:13:38.11\00:13:40.30 While their vegetarian restaurant 00:13:40.33\00:13:42.72 located in Chattanooga gives them an evangelistic outreach 00:13:42.75\00:13:47.78 into that nearby city. 00:13:47.81\00:13:50.90 Wildwood is not just interested in foreign missions. 00:13:50.93\00:13:53.27 We try to stay very involved in our community. 00:13:53.30\00:13:56.24 We're just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee 00:13:56.27\00:13:57.84 just about 10 miles and so we regularly have our students 00:13:57.87\00:14:01.86 doing health expos and door to door work. 00:14:01.89\00:14:03.95 Every week we have colporteurs going out 00:14:03.98\00:14:05.91 to work in Chattanooga. 00:14:05.94\00:14:08.86 Wildwood's had a restaurant for 30-40 years 00:14:08.89\00:14:12.62 in downtown Chattanooga. 00:14:12.65\00:14:14.53 We have recently reopened under a new name 00:14:14.56\00:14:17.32 and new management as Greenthumb Vegetarian Kitchen. 00:14:17.35\00:14:21.17 We want to bring in all kinds of people into the restaurant 00:14:21.20\00:14:24.41 and serve them good food with a cheerful spirit, 00:14:24.44\00:14:27.11 so they can learn who Seventh-day Adventists are 00:14:27.14\00:14:29.19 and learn what Wildwood is. 00:14:29.22\00:14:31.49 Our restaurant is city mission 00:14:31.52\00:14:34.11 where our local community can come to our restaurant 00:14:34.14\00:14:37.98 and enjoy good wholesome meals. 00:14:38.01\00:14:40.43 And then also having the opportunity to give them 00:14:40.46\00:14:43.13 literature or sharing directly with them 00:14:43.16\00:14:45.77 what Christ has done for us in our lives. 00:14:45.80\00:14:48.62 That's kind of a cycle to meet people downtown, 00:14:49.20\00:14:51.83 invite them to the restaurant, 00:14:51.86\00:14:53.14 then they learn about the lifestyle center 00:14:53.17\00:14:55.53 and our different health seminars and so forth. 00:14:55.56\00:14:57.80 We can follow up and have cooking classes downtown. 00:14:57.83\00:15:00.97 And we're right down in a tourist area, 00:15:01.00\00:15:03.94 right up from the Tennessee Aquarium. 00:15:03.97\00:15:06.10 So there is a lot of traffic down there. 00:15:06.13\00:15:08.41 It's in a real busy area and we want to be visible, 00:15:08.44\00:15:11.27 we don't want to hide behind the trees. 00:15:11.30\00:15:13.29 You know, we want people to see and learn 00:15:13.32\00:15:15.36 and hear about Wildwood. 00:15:15.39\00:15:17.03 And so we are excited about this new, this new project. 00:15:17.06\00:15:20.88 One of the most successful ways that Wildwood 00:15:20.91\00:15:22.53 has been able to sustain itself 00:15:22.56\00:15:24.11 is through our natural food store. 00:15:24.14\00:15:26.38 This ministry of Wildwood has sustained it 00:15:26.41\00:15:28.72 for the last 20 years. 00:15:28.75\00:15:30.81 We do over a million dollars worth of business 00:15:30.84\00:15:32.60 there per year. 00:15:32.63\00:15:34.48 We meet a lot of people, people come in 00:15:34.51\00:15:35.99 and buy truckloads of food from us. 00:15:36.02\00:15:38.30 It helps sustain us and it gets us in contact 00:15:38.33\00:15:41.21 with hundreds of people from this area. 00:15:41.24\00:15:44.94 Attached to the natural food store is a bookstore 00:15:44.97\00:15:47.12 where people can come in and get all sorts of literature 00:15:47.15\00:15:49.30 on healthful living, natural remedies 00:15:49.33\00:15:51.23 and spiritual topics and so that's definitely good outreach. 00:15:51.26\00:15:55.69 And also we have an herb store that does quite well. 00:15:55.72\00:15:58.64 By inviting people to our doors to supply products to them, 00:15:58.67\00:16:02.91 we have opportunity to share Christ 00:16:02.94\00:16:06.11 in the marketplace with them. 00:16:06.14\00:16:08.60 One idea that we have 00:16:08.63\00:16:10.06 is rebuilding our natural food store. 00:16:10.09\00:16:12.76 Right now it's a little bit inside the campus 00:16:12.79\00:16:14.98 but has grown better than we imagined. 00:16:15.01\00:16:17.69 And we have property right on 00:16:17.72\00:16:18.96 a major highway with a lot of traffic. 00:16:18.99\00:16:20.95 So with the store out front, we'll even be able to reach, 00:16:20.98\00:16:24.15 you know, a lot more people. 00:16:24.18\00:16:26.43 When the hearts of individuals are touched by God's grace 00:16:26.46\00:16:29.75 and they realize the precious salvation 00:16:29.78\00:16:31.88 that's been purchased for them, 00:16:31.91\00:16:34.11 the Holy Spirit creates in the heart 00:16:34.14\00:16:36.50 a desire to communicate that tremendous love with others. 00:16:36.53\00:16:41.13 Wildwood's college of health evangelism is designed 00:16:41.16\00:16:45.11 to equip individuals of all ages to be better prepared 00:16:45.14\00:16:49.58 to communicate the gospel to everyone they meet. 00:16:49.61\00:16:54.32 We see young people as an integral part of our ministry. 00:16:54.35\00:16:58.20 The reason why we started our management courses, 00:16:58.23\00:17:01.37 we noticed a real need in our own ministry 00:17:01.40\00:17:04.20 as well as in other ministries for young people 00:17:04.23\00:17:06.31 to be efficient managers 00:17:06.34\00:17:09.03 and leaders of this type of organization. 00:17:09.06\00:17:12.50 In self supporting work we strive to sustain 00:17:12.53\00:17:15.15 our projects through our business enterprises 00:17:15.18\00:17:17.96 and health ministries and so forth. 00:17:17.99\00:17:20.10 But that takes some business sense. 00:17:20.13\00:17:22.65 We are focusing training in our advance course 00:17:22.68\00:17:25.18 on how to start projects and how to start businesses. 00:17:25.21\00:17:28.62 Not just for the sake of business, 00:17:28.65\00:17:29.77 for the sake of ministry. 00:17:29.80\00:17:31.23 And we have dozens of graduates right now 00:17:31.26\00:17:33.21 that are in the field working 00:17:33.24\00:17:34.38 in missionary centers around the world. 00:17:34.41\00:17:36.85 Our young people are tomorrow's leaders 00:17:36.88\00:17:39.46 and we need to be mentoring them 00:17:39.49\00:17:41.34 and giving them opportunities. 00:17:41.37\00:17:43.38 And I think this is what's going to create 00:17:43.41\00:17:46.31 the sustainability for this work to go forward. 00:17:46.34\00:17:49.80 We have about 70 between 70 and 80 students on campus 00:17:50.92\00:17:54.36 that we train in the different tracks. 00:17:54.39\00:17:56.75 Trying to develop and train professional missionaries 00:17:56.78\00:18:00.24 that can go out and start new ministries, 00:18:00.27\00:18:04.09 lifestyle centers, city missions, schools. 00:18:04.12\00:18:06.96 To develop the work that we are called to finish. 00:18:06.99\00:18:11.25 We have a six months training program 00:18:11.28\00:18:13.04 where we train people how to do health evangelism 00:18:13.07\00:18:16.00 and combine the medical missionary, 00:18:16.03\00:18:19.25 the right hand of the gospel with the gospel ministry 00:18:19.28\00:18:23.98 to be able to effectively reach the people 00:18:24.01\00:18:26.28 with hydrotherapy and massage and with health expos 00:18:26.31\00:18:29.65 and cooking schools to really meet 00:18:29.68\00:18:31.39 the needs of the people in the communities. 00:18:31.42\00:18:33.39 And then eventually be able to lead them on 00:18:33.42\00:18:36.07 to a comprehensive understanding of the gospel. 00:18:36.10\00:18:38.50 And then we have a two year program 00:18:38.53\00:18:40.61 for lifestyle counselor consultant where they learn 00:18:40.64\00:18:43.47 how to work in a lifestyle center. 00:18:43.50\00:18:45.56 They can work in any of our lifestyle centers, 00:18:45.59\00:18:47.97 you know, worldwide. 00:18:48.00\00:18:49.27 And then we have a ministry management program 00:18:49.30\00:18:51.73 which is very new, where missionaries 00:18:51.76\00:18:54.34 are being trained in a professional way 00:18:54.37\00:18:57.04 of running ministries, of doing business 00:18:57.07\00:18:59.89 of learning how to sustain themselves, 00:18:59.92\00:19:02.27 so that they can work the cities 00:19:02.30\00:19:04.02 the way we are called to work them. 00:19:04.05\00:19:05.66 And then the longest program, 00:19:05.69\00:19:06.87 which is the Lifestyle Center Management is three years, 00:19:06.90\00:19:10.02 where they learn how to work in the lifestyle center 00:19:10.05\00:19:12.69 and do all the medical courses in a natural way 00:19:12.72\00:19:16.55 and then at the same time be able to learn 00:19:16.58\00:19:18.76 how to actually run a lifestyle center, you know. 00:19:18.79\00:19:21.98 So those are the main tracks that we have so far. 00:19:22.01\00:19:25.77 I took the six months course 00:19:25.80\00:19:27.06 because they gave you an opportunity 00:19:27.09\00:19:28.86 to be in apprenticeship in lifestyle, 00:19:28.89\00:19:31.36 that's the only avenue that they had here at Wildwood 00:19:31.39\00:19:34.70 and so that's how I got into lifestyle counseling. 00:19:34.73\00:19:37.12 The counselor actually becomes one with the guest. 00:19:37.15\00:19:40.69 You know, trying to help them understand why they're here 00:19:40.72\00:19:42.93 and what God is doing for them being here. 00:19:42.96\00:19:45.04 We give them hydro treatments, we give them massage. 00:19:45.07\00:19:48.38 We even give them a Bible study if they want. 00:19:48.41\00:19:50.85 We take walks with them. We teach them how to cook. 00:19:50.88\00:19:55.06 We actually give them a full overall 00:19:55.09\00:19:57.42 lifestyle change in 11 days or more here. 00:19:57.45\00:20:00.56 So it's a powerful moment 00:20:00.59\00:20:03.52 that you have to be able to help someone see 00:20:03.55\00:20:06.04 all that you have learned in Christ 00:20:06.07\00:20:07.90 and impart it on to them. 00:20:07.93\00:20:09.36 So hopefully they can make those changes in their life. 00:20:09.39\00:20:11.62 I mean, the Lord has been blessing 00:20:11.65\00:20:13.31 and especially with the General Conference, 00:20:13.34\00:20:14.99 you know, pushing also medical missionary work 00:20:15.02\00:20:17.23 and all these things. 00:20:17.26\00:20:18.29 We had over 250 applications just last year and, 00:20:18.32\00:20:22.17 you know, we can only accept about 70-80 people on campus. 00:20:22.20\00:20:25.98 And so because of that, 00:20:26.01\00:20:27.28 we felt the burden to actually develop 00:20:27.31\00:20:29.09 a online training program, 00:20:29.12\00:20:31.75 so that people from off campus 00:20:31.78\00:20:33.92 can still take the exact same medical missionary training. 00:20:33.95\00:20:37.44 They have the real in-class feel and setting, 00:20:37.47\00:20:41.14 the way the questions are being asked 00:20:41.17\00:20:43.14 and the lecturer is answering questions 00:20:43.17\00:20:45.23 as well as, you know, just not course material. 00:20:45.26\00:20:48.51 We're working on improving those all the time, 00:20:48.54\00:20:51.35 so that we have more people that can go out 00:20:51.38\00:20:54.94 and meet peoples' needs and bring others to Christ. 00:20:54.97\00:20:59.44 We've gotten already hundred some students 00:20:59.47\00:21:02.11 being able to take this from all over the world, 00:21:02.14\00:21:03.92 so that's a tremendous blessing. 00:21:03.95\00:21:05.74 This is in essence what we do. 00:21:05.77\00:21:07.53 Training missionaries in whatever line 00:21:07.56\00:21:09.74 that they are called to do, 00:21:09.77\00:21:10.83 and to start their own ministries to minister 00:21:10.86\00:21:13.27 to the people wherever they are and they come from. 00:21:13.30\00:21:17.07 You can't learn everything in the classroom. 00:21:17.10\00:21:19.54 You know, to sit and listen to the theory of it, 00:21:19.57\00:21:21.98 you know, is one thing, 00:21:22.01\00:21:23.20 but to actually get your hands in 00:21:23.23\00:21:25.49 and getting active doing something, 00:21:25.52\00:21:28.03 the learning is much more effective and efficient. 00:21:28.06\00:21:30.98 All the students have to go through different departments 00:21:31.01\00:21:33.41 to get work experience, 00:21:33.44\00:21:34.85 especially in our advanced program. 00:21:34.88\00:21:36.52 They get apprenticed in different areas 00:21:36.55\00:21:38.40 and they can choose what areas they are most interested in. 00:21:38.43\00:21:41.75 We view our farm as an important part 00:21:41.78\00:21:44.18 of our education for our students. 00:21:44.21\00:21:47.99 Our farm also supplies 00:21:48.02\00:21:49.92 produce to some of our local restaurants. 00:21:49.95\00:21:53.12 And we provide produce to our own kitchens. 00:21:53.15\00:21:57.38 In addition to the farm agriculture, 00:21:57.41\00:21:59.64 practical skills, construction, there's lots of construction 00:21:59.67\00:22:03.05 always to do around here and maintenance, 00:22:03.08\00:22:05.10 so these young guys get a lot of experience in that 00:22:05.13\00:22:07.25 and then when we go to a project, 00:22:07.28\00:22:09.15 there's always a lot of need 00:22:09.18\00:22:10.21 and the more you can do yourself, 00:22:10.24\00:22:11.68 you know, the more it helps the project. 00:22:11.71\00:22:14.86 Well, we always have needs of committed people 00:22:14.89\00:22:18.19 who are willing to be part of this work. 00:22:18.22\00:22:21.83 We also have, of course, a big campus. 00:22:21.86\00:22:24.95 And there is always the expense of renovation. 00:22:24.98\00:22:29.98 We have a great need at this point 00:22:30.01\00:22:32.65 with our enlarged student body of dining facilities. 00:22:32.68\00:22:37.61 Our cafeteria is small. 00:22:37.64\00:22:40.80 We're feeding some 80 people in a very small space. 00:22:40.83\00:22:45.84 And that's going to need a new building. 00:22:45.87\00:22:49.12 We also are looking to expand our store 00:22:49.15\00:22:52.63 and create a store where all of our stores 00:22:52.66\00:22:56.10 can be in the same building. 00:22:56.13\00:22:58.27 And then, of course, we also need 00:22:58.30\00:23:01.72 financial assistance to be able to 00:23:01.75\00:23:04.82 build a building of that nature. 00:23:04.85\00:23:07.48 So these are some of the needs that we have right now. 00:23:07.51\00:23:12.68 I believe in Wildwood and what it stands for, 00:23:12.71\00:23:16.82 because I grew in my Christian experience here. 00:23:16.85\00:23:21.06 From the time I got here to now, I saw God's work in me. 00:23:21.09\00:23:26.55 I saw He is changing me from a skeptic to a believer. 00:23:26.58\00:23:32.96 Here is where I learned to trust fully 00:23:32.99\00:23:36.88 and to see God's work in everybody's life, 00:23:36.91\00:23:39.63 especially in mine. 00:23:39.66\00:23:41.74 If somebody is wanting to go the right path, 00:23:41.77\00:23:46.29 Wildwood will give you all the chance 00:23:46.32\00:23:48.58 if you want to go the right path. 00:23:48.61\00:23:52.33 I praise God for institutions like this. 00:23:52.36\00:23:55.93 Wildwood was a door that opened up for me 00:23:55.96\00:23:58.40 to be able to come, I lost 60 pounds. 00:23:58.43\00:24:01.04 I learned that I had health issues 00:24:01.07\00:24:02.88 that the world couldn't tell me what it was. 00:24:02.91\00:24:04.99 And being here changing my life, my pains are gone. 00:24:05.02\00:24:10.20 You know, I can sleep better and my depression is gone. 00:24:10.23\00:24:13.96 God utilizes environment to be able to help me see 00:24:13.99\00:24:16.85 that there are so many ways you can help. 00:24:16.88\00:24:19.12 So if it's not just being on the farm which- 00:24:19.15\00:24:20.92 I worked on the farm and learning how He grows things 00:24:20.95\00:24:24.43 and how we can have faith that He can grow you in Him 00:24:24.46\00:24:28.32 like He grew our plants. 00:24:28.35\00:24:29.86 It's something different when you come to an environment 00:24:29.89\00:24:33.00 and you have to depend on Jesus. 00:24:33.03\00:24:35.21 And I appreciate having a store that says, you know what, 00:24:35.24\00:24:38.66 we're not going to sell what the world sells. 00:24:38.69\00:24:40.42 We're going to sell things for the betterment of the body. 00:24:40.45\00:24:42.88 We have an education department. 00:24:42.91\00:24:44.35 We are not going to teach the way the world teaches. 00:24:44.38\00:24:45.90 We're going to utilize the word of God along with science, 00:24:45.93\00:24:49.00 and know that this is God's way of teaching. 00:24:49.03\00:24:51.70 We have a lifestyle center that says, 00:24:51.73\00:24:53.08 we're not going to start medications first. 00:24:53.11\00:24:54.76 We're going to start with hydrotherapy, 00:24:54.79\00:24:56.17 we're going to start with massage, 00:24:56.20\00:24:57.32 we're going to talk to you and let you know you're cared for. 00:24:57.35\00:24:59.99 It makes a huge difference to know that 00:25:00.02\00:25:02.21 someone is listening to you 00:25:02.24\00:25:03.42 and not just trying to quick move you out 00:25:03.45\00:25:05.69 for another person to come in. 00:25:05.72\00:25:07.42 It's a place of self sacrifice. 00:25:07.45\00:25:09.71 It's a place that leads the foundation that 00:25:09.74\00:25:12.19 you can die to self and be more like Christ. 00:25:12.22\00:25:15.06 And the more you see that, the more you become that, 00:25:15.09\00:25:18.42 the more you're prepared through the Holy Spirit for His coming. 00:25:18.45\00:25:22.23 I mean, imagine if all of us would be working 00:25:22.26\00:25:24.88 fulltime for the gospel like the pastors do. 00:25:24.91\00:25:28.37 You know, in some area and it doesn't have to be pastor 00:25:28.40\00:25:31.49 or a Bible worker, that's what we traditionally know 00:25:31.52\00:25:33.76 or may be a doctor. 00:25:33.79\00:25:35.00 But there's so many others, you know, God is calling 00:25:35.03\00:25:38.36 businessmen and architects and engineers 00:25:38.39\00:25:40.67 and whatever your talent is, using those talents, 00:25:40.70\00:25:44.00 building, you know, churches, building our schools, 00:25:44.03\00:25:47.57 building sanitariums, building whatever, 00:25:47.60\00:25:50.43 you know, city missions, restaurants, you name it, right. 00:25:50.46\00:25:52.89 I mean, all of these things and all of these jobs 00:25:52.92\00:25:55.54 are actually part of God's comprehensive 00:25:55.57\00:25:59.72 calling to all of us to gear all of our energies 00:25:59.75\00:26:03.09 into finishing this work. 00:26:03.12\00:26:04.95 And that is really- that's my greatest burden. 00:26:04.98\00:26:07.20 And I love the ministry. 00:26:07.23\00:26:08.40 I love what we are doing as a church, you know, as a whole. 00:26:08.43\00:26:11.55 And I believe that that is what we're called to do, 00:26:11.58\00:26:13.94 is to work together and to unify all of our energies 00:26:13.97\00:26:18.38 to be able to reach the cities and reach the people, 00:26:18.41\00:26:21.19 because they don't have all these beautiful truths 00:26:21.22\00:26:24.20 that change our lives and that really help us, you know. 00:26:24.23\00:26:26.55 And gain eternal life, you know, that's really 00:26:26.58\00:26:28.66 the greatest of all objectives that we can have for our lives. 00:26:28.69\00:26:33.17 I believe as the vision and the mission of Wildwood 00:26:33.20\00:26:36.87 and what we do here is this beautiful quote 00:26:36.90\00:26:41.18 that really puts it into a nutshell 00:26:41.21\00:26:43.45 from Ministry of Healing where it says, 00:26:43.48\00:26:46.00 "True education is missionary training." 00:26:46.03\00:26:48.89 Every son and daughter of God 00:26:48.92\00:26:51.63 is called to be a missionary. 00:26:51.66\00:26:54.10 For over 70 years, Wildwood has been a consistent example 00:26:54.13\00:26:58.55 of the principles of self supporting work. 00:26:58.58\00:27:01.87 Through their healing arts and their educational program, 00:27:01.90\00:27:06.01 the influence of Wildwood extends 00:27:06.04\00:27:08.14 far beyond the borders of this campus. 00:27:08.17\00:27:12.57 Wildwood has endeavored to be a school 00:27:12.60\00:27:15.03 patterned after the Madison Order. 00:27:15.06\00:27:18.70 Additionally, they have encouraged many others 00:27:18.73\00:27:22.05 to follow that same example. 00:27:22.08\00:27:25.00 Today there is a need for individuals 00:27:25.03\00:27:27.57 who will hear God's call 00:27:27.60\00:27:29.78 to commit themselves to working in a self supporting way. 00:27:29.81\00:27:34.88 We solicit your prayers for the ministry of Wildwood 00:27:34.91\00:27:38.89 and ask that you might consider 00:27:38.92\00:27:40.68 how God is calling you 00:27:40.71\00:27:42.70 to be involved in the expanding ministry 00:27:42.73\00:27:45.15 of self supporting work. 00:27:45.18\00:27:47.18 Here at OCI, we value your support. 00:27:50.48\00:27:54.13
