Africa is a continent of great contrasts, 00:00:08.02\00:00:11.46 rich in natural resources, 00:00:11.49\00:00:14.31 yet many of its people, are trapped in grinding poverty. 00:00:14.34\00:00:18.39 For centuries, the continent has captured the imagination of many 00:00:18.42\00:00:23.56 The stunning landscapes, magnificent animals, 00:00:23.59\00:00:27.33 and vibrant people, are a tremendous draw. 00:00:27.36\00:00:30.49 From the earliest colonists, to the most modern-day tourists, 00:00:30.52\00:00:35.28 the continent of Africa still attracts attention. 00:00:35.31\00:00:39.02 In the early 1800s, there was a new wave of Christian, 00:00:39.05\00:00:43.59 mission activity. Many paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving 00:00:43.62\00:00:48.18 their lives to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:00:48.21\00:00:51.86 Their legacy still lives on. Join us as we explore the work 00:00:51.89\00:00:57.82 of OCI, active today in the nation of Zambia. 00:00:57.85\00:01:02.38 Zambia is a land-locked nation in the heart of southern Africa. 00:01:18.07\00:01:22.80 It's about the size of Texas, with about half the 00:01:22.83\00:01:26.43 population. A name that is inseparably linked with the 00:01:26.46\00:01:30.84 history of Zambia, is that of David Livingstone. 00:01:30.87\00:01:34.06 Born in March of 1813, Livingstone even at an early age 00:01:34.09\00:01:39.01 already possessed a strong will and great determination. 00:01:39.04\00:01:43.36 That determination, led him to respond to the call of the 00:01:43.79\00:01:48.02 famous missionary, Robert Moffat. 00:01:48.05\00:01:50.26 Moffat had written in his journal, that: 00:01:50.29\00:01:53.68 Livingstone determined to bring the name of Christ to those 00:02:03.89\00:02:07.27 unreached peoples. Not content to build on the foundations of 00:02:07.30\00:02:12.25 others, Livingstone pushed northward through what is 00:02:12.28\00:02:15.81 current-day Botswana. He continued moving north and west, 00:02:15.84\00:02:20.58 until he came to Luanda, the capital of modern-day Angola. 00:02:20.61\00:02:24.78 Retracing his steps, he eventually came across the 00:02:26.17\00:02:29.55 Zambezi River. It was there he was met by this beautiful site: 00:02:29.58\00:02:34.25 Livingstone landed on this island. 00:02:34.77\00:02:37.22 As he looked upon what is now known as Victoria Falls, 00:02:37.25\00:02:41.09 he was awestruck. 00:02:41.12\00:02:43.36 In his journal he wrote, that it is on sights as beautiful as 00:02:44.59\00:02:47.80 these, that angels in their flight must have gazed. 00:02:47.83\00:02:52.61 For the next 32 years of his life, Livingstone determined 00:02:52.64\00:02:57.55 to bring the gospel of Christ to this region. 00:02:57.58\00:03:00.40 He set up a beacon for other missionaries 00:03:00.43\00:03:03.36 to follow in his way. 00:03:03.39\00:03:05.28 Many of the early missionaries paid the ultimate sacrifice. 00:03:12.69\00:03:16.63 This graveyard in Livingstone contains the remains of 00:03:16.66\00:03:21.45 many of those early missionaries. 00:03:21.48\00:03:22.96 They were felled, not by the inhabitants, but frequently 00:03:22.99\00:03:27.08 by malaria. Today, there are still missionaries endeavoring 00:03:27.11\00:03:32.64 to communicate the gospel in this region. 00:03:32.67\00:03:35.86 Livingstone's passionate desire to permeate the continent of 00:03:38.78\00:03:42.22 Africa with the gospel of Christ, was united with an 00:03:42.25\00:03:45.54 equally strong desire to eradicate slavery. 00:03:45.57\00:03:48.77 Livingstone envisioned, that by opening up the interior of the 00:03:48.80\00:03:53.03 continent to commerce, he would hasten the down-fall of slavery. 00:03:53.06\00:03:57.39 To that end, Livingstone trekked across what is now Zambia. 00:03:57.42\00:04:02.36 His journeys brought him to the banks of the Kafuie River. 00:04:02.39\00:04:06.49 Tradition has it that he slept underneath this baobab tree. 00:04:08.19\00:04:12.18 This baobab tree is now surrounded by an OCI ministry 00:04:12.21\00:04:18.20 committed to bringing the gospel of Christ 00:04:18.23\00:04:21.55 to the continent of Africa. 00:04:21.58\00:04:23.46 In Livingstone's day, the majority of missionaries to 00:04:27.21\00:04:30.77 Africa came from Europe and the isles of Britain. Today, 00:04:30.80\00:04:34.77 the work is much more international and multicultural. 00:04:34.80\00:04:38.60 Many cultures uniting together to train Zambians in helping 00:04:38.63\00:04:43.26 them reach their fellow citizens. 00:04:43.29\00:04:45.54 In 1974, on land donated by Dr. Foster, a medical missionary, 00:04:48.11\00:04:53.33 Riverside Farm Institute was born. 00:04:53.36\00:04:56.37 The vision behind Riverside Farm was to be an evangelistic, 00:04:56.40\00:05:01.33 medical missionary training center. 00:05:01.36\00:05:03.90 The focus was to equip Zambians to carry the gospel throughout 00:05:03.93\00:05:09.35 the country. Since that time, thousands of Zambian men and 00:05:09.38\00:05:13.43 women have received a quality medical missionary evangelistic 00:05:13.46\00:05:18.39 training here at Riverside Farm. They have then gone out 00:05:18.42\00:05:22.81 and shared what they have learned with their fellow 00:05:22.84\00:05:24.59 countrymen. The influence of Riverside Farm has spread across 00:05:24.62\00:05:30.36 the nation of Zambia. 00:05:30.39\00:05:32.44 Riverside's main focus is education and training. 00:05:33.09\00:05:37.17 Of course we do many other things, but that's why we exist. 00:05:37.35\00:05:42.16 We want to train disciples for Christ. 00:05:42.19\00:05:45.57 So we do health through our Wellness Ctr through our Clinic. 00:05:45.60\00:05:48.63 We also have spiritual emphasis on the campus itself 00:05:48.66\00:05:54.17 and then our evangelism outreach programs. 00:05:54.20\00:05:56.69 We have our agricultural program which mainly gives the income 00:05:56.72\00:06:02.59 for Riverside and make it self- supportive. 00:06:02.62\00:06:04.86 Our purpose here is to educate people in a different way. 00:06:04.89\00:06:11.51 How we can come in contact with people who are non-Adventists 00:06:11.54\00:06:16.65 or people who are not religious. 00:06:16.68\00:06:18.43 So they come here to learn gardening or to learn tailoring. 00:06:18.50\00:06:22.29 And in those classes we teach the course they came here for, 00:06:22.32\00:06:27.58 like gardening, but also we share with them the 00:06:27.61\00:06:31.09 health principles, better living, and also we share 00:06:31.12\00:06:36.82 with them the Word of God. 00:06:36.85\00:06:38.24 So almost every course we baptize a number of students, 00:06:38.31\00:06:43.07 something like 2 to 5 students. 00:06:43.10\00:06:45.71 Like the current course we have baptized 5 students. 00:06:45.98\00:06:49.14 So that was a big joy to us! 00:06:49.17\00:06:53.09 We are teaching the Word of God besides just teaching someone 00:06:53.24\00:06:59.34 to read and write. 00:06:59.37\00:07:00.64 Our courses here are intended to help people be aware of eternity 00:07:00.67\00:07:06.10 and also are a service to other people while we are still 00:07:07.24\00:07:12.15 here on earth. 00:07:12.18\00:07:13.21 Here we do tailoring and our students could go to neighboring 00:07:13.24\00:07:18.36 school where they learn how to make a good outfit but here they 00:07:18.39\00:07:23.82 learn also the Word of God, and they learn also how to care for 00:07:23.85\00:07:27.18 their health. So this really satisfies us! It gives us joy! 00:07:27.21\00:07:34.21 Singing... 00:07:34.24\00:07:39.28 When I came here I wasn't one of the SDA members. 00:07:45.35\00:07:48.74 I was one of the Jehovah's Witnesses. 00:07:48.77\00:07:51.22 When studying the Bible with our teacher, after they explained 00:07:51.25\00:07:55.05 to me thru the Bible. I came to understand and was baptized. 00:07:55.08\00:07:59.53 That's how I found myself here. In 2005 I got married and I 00:07:59.56\00:08:07.65 had my wedding dress here. 00:08:07.68\00:08:09.77 With this intent we started studying the Bible. Last month 00:08:09.81\00:08:15.04 we had 1 baptized through a crusade evangelism class. 00:08:15.07\00:08:20.05 The Lord is really blessing with the class and I'm enjoying it! 00:08:20.08\00:08:26.08 The Lord said Go therefore and teach. If He said go and teach, 00:08:26.11\00:08:29.31 who am I not to teach? So whatever benefit, 00:08:29.34\00:08:36.40 I need to make other people benefit. 00:08:36.43\00:08:39.55 This program has helped me grow spiritually. 00:08:43.90\00:08:46.17 It's not just the scientific agriculture that I am doing. 00:08:46.20\00:08:50.05 There are times we have Bible doctrine. 00:08:50.08\00:08:53.53 Yes, we learn the Word of God. 00:08:53.56\00:08:55.66 Also their is a time of learning nutrition and also farm life. 00:08:55.88\00:09:00.96 When I finish my course, I'll first establish my Dad's farm 00:09:00.99\00:09:04.86 It's not already invested so I will have to 00:09:04.89\00:09:06.59 start planning what I can plant. 00:09:06.62\00:09:08.62 Traditionally, wherever you find land, you dig and plant. 00:09:09.11\00:09:13.71 There's no methodologies there. But we do it with formulas here. 00:09:13.92\00:09:17.30 Before you start learning anything, you have to pray 00:09:17.33\00:09:20.43 and you have a Bible reading. 00:09:20.46\00:09:21.68 So this has encouraged me a lot because in everything I have to 00:09:21.71\00:09:24.61 first pray to God so that He makes a way for me, 00:09:24.64\00:09:28.22 so that I proceed with whatever things I have to do. 00:09:28.25\00:09:30.51 I studied medicine and right now I'm working as a teacher, 00:09:36.51\00:09:42.26 teaching medical missionary work in various schools in the same 00:09:42.29\00:09:47.03 country. People don't really 00:09:47.06\00:09:48.72 understand true education and everything when it comes to 00:09:48.75\00:09:53.24 health and lifestyle. 00:09:53.27\00:09:55.60 The devil is really at work deceiving people and making 00:09:55.63\00:09:58.97 people believe in wrong things about health. I'm sure there's 00:09:59.00\00:10:01.87 I can say there's a need of, and I get asked, 00:10:01.90\00:10:04.87 to go and teach the people out there especially here in Zambia. 00:10:04.90\00:10:07.97 I have also the missionary spirit at heart. 00:10:10.02\00:10:13.08 That is what part of this course is all about. 00:10:13.11\00:10:17.60 I feel so blessed that I actually chose the course 00:10:18.04\00:10:21.91 that I am doing. 00:10:21.94\00:10:23.54 It's growth in my life, the way you dress, talk, what you eat. 00:10:23.57\00:10:31.76 I've learned a lot of treatments here. When somebody is sick, 00:10:31.79\00:10:36.67 I'll take advantage and help with what I have learned here. 00:10:36.70\00:10:41.96 It's different from what man would teach you. 00:10:41.99\00:10:44.87 When God teaches you, it's good for you! 00:10:44.90\00:10:49.19 I believe education is a key aspect of evangelism. 00:10:49.22\00:10:53.60 You know you can go and share with somebody the gospel. 00:10:53.63\00:10:58.37 But many people are so eager to share the gospel with others 00:10:58.41\00:11:03.20 when they find Christ that many times 00:11:03.23\00:11:05.89 they make so many mistakes and actually 00:11:06.30\00:11:08.57 push people away from Christ. 00:11:08.60\00:11:10.53 But with a little bit of training 00:11:10.56\00:11:13.12 we can help them be successful disciples and soul winners. 00:11:13.15\00:11:18.50 One person can spread the gospel to thousands. 00:11:18.53\00:11:21.80 And that's the uniqueness for me about training. 00:11:21.83\00:11:24.67 That they have that foundation. They understand the gospel 00:11:24.70\00:11:27.28 They understand their relationship with Christ. 00:11:27.31\00:11:29.16 And then they can take that message successfully and 00:11:29.19\00:11:32.92 effectively to others! 00:11:32.95\00:11:34.09 Riverside Farm Inst. also has an extended family of evangelists. 00:11:34.12\00:11:41.31 Myself, as a white person, as they call me, 00:11:41.34\00:11:46.39 if I go to preach the gospel to this culture, 00:11:46.42\00:11:50.50 I first need to understand the culture. 00:11:50.53\00:11:53.12 I need to understand the way they're thinking about things 00:11:53.15\00:11:55.81 the way they do things. 00:11:55.84\00:11:57.11 And then from that perspective try to help them with the gospel 00:11:57.31\00:12:01.46 How they love their Christian experience in a culture setting! 00:12:01.54\00:12:06.12 But we realize their own people do it much better than we can. 00:12:06.15\00:12:13.08 Let's change it a little bit. Let us get more 00:12:13.11\00:12:18.26 train more evangelists or Bible pioneers 00:12:18.29\00:12:21.47 or Bible Workers as we call them, to 00:12:21.50\00:12:23.29 go out where we can not go. 00:12:23.32\00:12:25.40 We find that our 65 Pioneers or Bible Workers that we have 00:12:25.43\00:12:30.67 at the moment, easily 00:12:30.70\00:12:32.60 anything between 5 thousand and 10 thousand people are baptized 00:12:32.63\00:12:37.73 within one year! 00:12:37.76\00:12:39.34 This mission district had only a few churches. 00:12:39.37\00:12:46.61 So I had the passion to wait for the Lord. 00:12:46.64\00:12:50.31 The branch here consists of 40 people, including children. 00:12:50.34\00:12:57.00 What makes them stay in the church? 00:12:57.03\00:12:59.54 It's the truth which is shared to them! 00:12:59.57\00:13:02.41 Because through society we were giving some literature 00:13:02.62\00:13:07.13 like the Voice of Prophecy lessons we give the people. 00:13:07.16\00:13:11.36 They study for themselves, they know the truth. 00:13:11.97\00:13:15.96 We encourage them to take the Bible lessons wherever they go. 00:13:15.99\00:13:20.26 They're going to Saka, 00:13:20.29\00:13:21.32 they always carry literature with them. 00:13:21.35\00:13:22.91 We are reaching thousands and thousands of people. 00:13:22.94\00:13:25.94 I finish, easily I can finish one to two containers 00:13:25.97\00:13:30.02 of literature in a year with the Pioneers, of course. 00:13:30.05\00:13:33.53 If our own members here are active. Many churches from Saka 00:13:33.56\00:13:37.11 they come to fetch some of the material from us and they're 00:13:37.14\00:13:41.90 giving it out and we know the people are reached. 00:13:41.93\00:13:45.42 It's the silent messenger. That's what we need. 00:13:45.64\00:13:47.86 If That's the best method. If we use the best method, 00:13:47.89\00:13:50.48 and God will bless it. And He's already doing it in many ways. 00:13:50.51\00:13:54.72 We may not be identified to say 00:13:58.01\00:13:59.73 this one does that, and this one that and that and that 00:13:59.76\00:14:01.80 But praise be to God, the way which we have done, the 00:14:01.83\00:14:06.23 people who came to Christ before our labor don't forget. 00:14:06.26\00:14:11.29 God sees you, like in Isaiah, a unit 00:14:11.32\00:14:17.11 and just like a mouth speaking to the people. 00:14:17.14\00:14:20.35 Dedicated Bible Workers like Roy are helping to start new 00:14:20.38\00:14:25.01 congregations throughout the country of Zambia. 00:14:25.04\00:14:27.58 In a moment, we'll find out what Riverside Farm is doing to 00:14:27.61\00:14:31.64 nurture and strengthen these new groups of believers. 00:14:31.67\00:14:35.08 We share this globe with about 7 billion people. 00:14:36.66\00:14:40.48 That's a lot of people. And standing here in this busy city, 00:14:40.51\00:14:45.49 it's easy to feel small and insignificant. 00:14:45.52\00:14:49.03 After all, I'm only one person, what difference can I make? 00:14:49.06\00:14:53.11 But the fact is, each of us can make a difference. 00:14:53.14\00:14:56.95 God is calling us to turn our lives and skills over to Him. 00:14:56.98\00:15:01.83 Around the world, the individual workers at 00:15:01.86\00:15:05.44 OCI Ministries are letting God use them to bring hope and 00:15:05.47\00:15:09.99 healing one person at a time. You can make a difference too! 00:15:10.02\00:15:15.18 When you connect to OCI, you connect to more than 80 00:15:15.21\00:15:19.93 ministries world-wide. If you're interested in getting involved 00:15:19.96\00:15:25.70 in the global ministry of OCI, visit our website or call us. 00:15:25.73\00:15:30.21 We would love to talk to you! 00:15:30.24\00:15:34.81 The work of Riverside's Bible Workers is bearing tremendous 00:15:36.78\00:15:40.96 fruit throughout the country of Zambia. 00:15:40.99\00:15:43.48 New, young, flourishing 00:15:43.51\00:15:45.12 congregations are springing up. This is in partial fulfillment 00:15:45.15\00:15:49.42 of David Livingstone's vision of seeing the gospel of Jesus 00:15:49.45\00:15:53.26 Christ permeate the African continent. These new 00:15:53.53\00:15:57.27 young congregations need an appropriate place to worship. 00:15:57.30\00:16:02.20 Riverside Farm, partnering with Maranatha and ASI, are doing 00:16:02.23\00:16:07.27 what they can do to fulfill this great need. 00:16:07.30\00:16:11.16 We have a program called The 1 Day Church Program. 00:16:11.19\00:16:15.74 It is to me a very encouraging program. We had previously 00:16:15.77\00:16:21.39 what we called The Growths for Africa Program, 00:16:21.42\00:16:23.84 but that stopped many years ago. 00:16:23.87\00:16:26.00 But now how do we provide these Pioneers, 00:16:26.17\00:16:30.21 these groups, with churches? One day when I was walking 00:16:30.24\00:16:33.31 into our mission development administrator's office he said 00:16:33.34\00:16:38.78 to me, listen, we have a new program. 00:16:38.81\00:16:41.33 There's a donor that wants to or is designing what they call a 1 00:16:41.36\00:16:45.55 day church structure and he wants to send 300 to Riverside. 00:16:45.58\00:16:50.52 I just went straight from his office on my knees! 00:16:50.55\00:16:53.22 And said Wow! This is an answer to prayer! 00:16:53.25\00:16:55.88 And so now, slowly but surely, every Pioneer's getting 00:16:55.91\00:17:00.22 at least 4 buildings, and we're trying to do it in 00:17:00.25\00:17:05.17 the process of 3 to 4 years. We're trying to finish up. 00:17:05.20\00:17:08.64 Most of those 300 churches will also help them and will help the 00:17:08.67\00:17:12.85 conferences and fields to have more churches as its growing. 00:17:12.88\00:17:18.56 So we are very blessed to have that 1 Day Church Program. 00:17:18.59\00:17:22.11 The work which is happening around here is so great! 00:17:23.09\00:17:26.65 The 1 Day Church going around has an impact to the communities 00:17:26.68\00:17:36.23 Every Sabbath people gather there in numbers 00:17:36.75\00:17:40.96 because they had been shared and they had the 00:17:41.23\00:17:44.08 message which they needed for this time. Praise God for that! 00:17:44.12\00:17:50.97 So Riverside has seven training centers. 00:17:53.66\00:17:57.26 They are small centers where we are training gospel workers. 00:17:57.29\00:18:03.02 We have a number of them in different provinces of Zambia 00:18:03.05\00:18:08.31 so that we can be able to reach at least 00:18:08.34\00:18:13.26 the whole of Zambia at the same time. 00:18:13.29\00:18:16.71 Here people been studying evangelism. The problem we've 00:18:17.12\00:18:21.87 had is that when we talk of evangelism here, 00:18:21.90\00:18:25.46 all people think about is the crusades. 00:18:25.49\00:18:28.95 We're trying to change the mind- set of the people to help them 00:18:28.98\00:18:33.35 understand that actually evangelism should be the 00:18:33.38\00:18:36.70 lifestyle of every Christian. 00:18:36.73\00:18:39.95 That's the main program here. There is also training in skills 00:18:40.40\00:18:44.85 like tailoring, scientific gardening, and health. 00:18:44.88\00:18:52.32 The 1 Day Program has really blessed the 7 Riverside schools. 00:18:54.94\00:18:59.95 By having these schools we are broadening our capacity to train 00:18:59.98\00:19:06.08 workers for the Lord who can minister in those different 00:19:06.11\00:19:10.05 places. And some of these places, we 00:19:10.08\00:19:12.94 don't have to house those people. 00:19:12.98\00:19:16.30 So they can minister to their family 00:19:16.33\00:19:18.48 and do this training, which is a blessing. 00:19:18.51\00:19:21.62 And each school has a powerful influence in the neighborhood. 00:19:21.65\00:19:28.56 In addition to planting new congregations and new churches, 00:19:30.94\00:19:35.23 there's another kind of planting 00:19:35.26\00:19:36.94 that takes place at Riverside Farm. 00:19:36.97\00:19:39.01 Agriculture is an important component, 00:19:39.45\00:19:42.59 both for educational purposes, and a means of support. 00:19:42.62\00:19:46.77 The banana plantation at Riverside 00:19:46.80\00:19:48.94 is well-known throughout the country. 00:19:48.97\00:19:52.00 This provides both an opportunity for students 00:19:52.06\00:19:55.42 to learn practical work, as well as ongoing 00:19:55.45\00:19:58.95 financial support for the evan- gelistic work of Riverside Farm. 00:19:58.98\00:20:04.10 Bananas have always been a great income for Riverside, since 00:20:04.73\00:20:07.73 Dr. Foster had the farm in the beginning. It's expanded over 00:20:08.24\00:20:13.14 the years and is the best income for Riverside at the moment. 00:20:13.17\00:20:17.45 A few years ago we encountered a disease within our bananas which 00:20:17.96\00:20:22.38 we are trying to fight but still a blessing to Riverside income. 00:20:22.41\00:20:29.04 Eventually we switched over to irrigation and we did our wheat 00:20:29.07\00:20:34.26 growing-a huge Riverside income. Once a year we grow wheat, 00:20:34.29\00:20:38.83 sometimes rotate with soybeans. We have a Milling Department. 00:20:38.86\00:20:43.79 We used to plant maize and mill it as a secondary product. 00:20:43.82\00:20:50.94 But recently we've been buying from local farmers, 00:20:50.97\00:20:54.28 bring it to our mill, stack it in our shed and mill it during 00:20:54.31\00:20:57.71 year so that we have a constant income. 00:20:57.74\00:21:00.17 Then there are smaller things. 00:21:00.20\00:21:01.30 We have our own vegetables we sell in our small center. 00:21:01.33\00:21:07.01 We have orchards as well. Riverside received a donation 00:21:07.23\00:21:14.85 from ASI to start a brand new project of pineapples. We have 00:21:14.88\00:21:20.37 planted 25,000 plants. Every year the suckers can be planted 00:21:20.40\00:21:26.49 and we get a little more and it becomes 00:21:26.52\00:21:29.03 another leg to stand on financially. 00:21:29.06\00:21:31.65 So God has been blessing Riverside even through 00:21:31.68\00:21:35.45 all the troubles we had with the virus in the bananas, 00:21:35.48\00:21:37.69 with hail, you know, with frost, things like that. God has always 00:21:37.73\00:21:42.41 been keeping His hand over the things here at Riverside 00:21:42.44\00:21:45.71 and we are so thankful for that. 00:21:45.75\00:21:47.31 And we can use it to bless others around us. 00:21:47.43\00:21:52.24 For many years Riverside's evangelistic and medical 00:21:55.48\00:21:58.85 missionary outreach has been 00:21:58.88\00:22:00.88 focused on the rural parts of Zambia like this. 00:22:00.91\00:22:04.05 Many Zambians labor for $4 or $5 a day. But in the cities 00:22:04.08\00:22:10.72 is a growing upper middle and middle class. Riverside had felt 00:22:10.75\00:22:16.45 the burden to minister to these affluent individuals as well. 00:22:16.48\00:22:20.86 Although hard to reach with a regular evangelistic series, 00:22:20.89\00:22:25.20 they found that using the means of health 00:22:25.23\00:22:28.05 would be an avenue to minister to them. 00:22:28.08\00:22:30.81 Their solution, a Wellness Center. 00:22:30.84\00:22:35.04 There's a lot of people with need out there, and I'm not 00:22:43.11\00:22:45.05 just speaking physically. We'd really like to know how to 00:22:45.08\00:22:48.97 reach the unreached in our cities with the gospel. 00:22:49.00\00:22:53.18 We started seeing the need in Lusaka. People that became 00:22:53.21\00:22:57.36 diabetic, cancer picking up. There were two malls in Lusaka. 00:22:57.39\00:23:03.62 These malls have all the junk food. We know, coming from 00:23:03.65\00:23:10.02 Western culture what would be the end result of that. 00:23:10.05\00:23:12.94 So all these things said to us 00:23:12.97\00:23:15.03 we needed to get serious about a Wellness Center. 00:23:15.06\00:23:17.73 And then we started using an old house, a director's house, 00:23:17.76\00:23:22.19 here against the hill. It had a thatch roof on it. 00:23:22.22\00:23:26.12 ASI helped us with some of the money and we put in some money. 00:23:26.24\00:23:31.98 Now it's standing almost 7 years. 00:23:32.01\00:23:34.31 Cancer's just taking off in this country! 00:23:34.34\00:23:37.87 AIDS is prominent in Africa. We want to have an immune boost 00:23:38.12\00:23:45.05 program for these type of people that come. Of course, high blood 00:23:45.08\00:23:49.68 pressure, diabetes, because people in Lusaka now have very 00:23:49.71\00:23:56.50 passive work in front of computers as well. They get the 00:23:56.53\00:24:00.36 same diseases as in Western culture. 00:24:00.39\00:24:02.59 We go to the different ministries in Lusaka. We have 00:24:02.62\00:24:06.42 health expos by them to awaken their appetite so they can see, 00:24:06.45\00:24:11.66 listen, I'm not as healthy as I need to be. We've gotten to some 00:24:11.69\00:24:14.62 ministries and you take blood sugar and it's way out of range! 00:24:14.65\00:24:19.26 You tell them this is a problem, do you know that you are sick? 00:24:19.29\00:24:21.80 And they're like, no it's not a problem. I urinate more than 00:24:21.83\00:24:25.15 other people but it's not a problem. Or blood pressure's 00:24:25.18\00:24:27.81 knocking and you tell them you're a walking time bomb, 00:24:27.84\00:24:29.82 O no they say it's not a problem, I just take a little 00:24:29.85\00:24:31.91 bit more pain killers because my head hurts. People don't 00:24:31.94\00:24:34.88 understand how dangerous this is. So we try to get them 00:24:34.91\00:24:38.67 here, help them physically, 00:24:38.70\00:24:40.57 so that eventually we can actually help them spiritually. 00:24:40.60\00:24:43.01 That's what we want to aim for with this whole place. 00:24:43.10\00:24:45.57 From the start of the Wellness Center we had quite 00:24:50.92\00:24:53.67 a few important people coming to it, like Dr. Kaunda. 00:24:53.70\00:24:58.63 President Banda came here just to visit. Our cooking team went 00:24:58.66\00:25:04.76 to President Mwanawasa's house to help his cooks prepare food 00:25:04.79\00:25:13.02 for him because he was diabetic. So in these areas we can reach 00:25:13.05\00:25:18.21 quite a few people. They feel this is a successful program. 00:25:18.24\00:25:22.15 And it's something that is not within Zambia 00:25:22.18\00:25:25.76 or in other places in Africa yet. 00:25:25.79\00:25:27.13 So we have the privilege of reaching that class. 00:25:27.16\00:25:30.95 I heard about Riverside Farm Institute from friends. 00:25:30.98\00:25:35.24 I found it to be a good place for relaxation. 00:25:35.27\00:25:39.47 Their apartments are so nice. Many times I've been here 00:25:39.50\00:25:47.20 with my children and we have enjoyed ourselves. 00:25:47.23\00:25:50.62 Their program, it's quite strenuous, it's quite involving. 00:25:50.65\00:25:55.83 But I don't have headache anymore. The blood pressure 00:25:55.86\00:25:59.32 is very normal and I no longer wish to take 00:25:59.35\00:26:02.95 any of those tablets that I had been taking. 00:26:02.98\00:26:05.64 When you go in the treatment rooms, the kind of equipment 00:26:07.03\00:26:12.15 you find there is marvelous. Before they start attending you, 00:26:12.18\00:26:17.51 they start with prayer, knowing and realizing 00:26:17.54\00:26:21.40 that these things are not possible without God. 00:26:21.43\00:26:25.23 Being our Creator, He knows what's best 00:26:25.26\00:26:29.78 to provide for our needs. 00:26:29.81\00:26:31.72 And therefore the members of staff before anything, 00:26:31.79\00:26:34.84 they ask for His guidance. 00:26:34.87\00:26:36.57 It's a wonderful place to be. 00:26:36.73\00:26:38.35 Many people have found Christ. 00:26:39.20\00:26:41.90 Sometimes even if it was just helping somebody to accept 00:26:41.93\00:26:45.79 Jesus. Even if we can't 00:26:45.82\00:26:47.63 do anything for them, the disease has gone too far. 00:26:47.66\00:26:50.09 Some people have been baptized and we're very happy about that. 00:26:50.12\00:26:54.91 And that's the reason why we're here, 00:26:54.94\00:26:56.99 to bring that spiritual blessing to the people. 00:26:57.02\00:26:58.99 In one of Ellen White's visions, she saw jets of light 00:26:59.06\00:27:03.05 illuminating an otherwise darkened world. 00:27:03.08\00:27:06.45 Over the years, Riverside Farm 00:27:06.48\00:27:09.08 has become one of those beacons of light. The influence 00:27:09.56\00:27:13.70 emanating from Riverside has been felt in the 00:27:13.73\00:27:16.54 surrounding countries. 00:27:16.57\00:27:18.09 New ministries have sprung up 00:27:18.15\00:27:20.76 following the pattern of Riverside. 00:27:20.79\00:27:23.44 Wherever you are in the world, you can be 00:27:23.63\00:27:26.46 part of this amazing ministry. 00:27:26.49\00:27:28.27 You can pray for the teachers and leaders at Riverside Farm. 00:27:28.49\00:27:32.72 You can pray for the Bible Workers, 00:27:32.75\00:27:35.75 and the guests that come to the Wellness Center. 00:27:35.78\00:27:38.08 You can pray that the work of Riverside 00:27:38.11\00:27:41.03 continues to grow and expand. 00:27:41.06\00:27:43.56 It is through God's grace and the support of viewers like you, 00:27:47.57\00:27:52.21 that Riverside Farm, an OCI's world-wide ministry, is able to 00:27:52.24\00:27:56.79 continue the work of spreading the gospel. 00:27:56.82\00:27:59.81 For more information visit our website, email us, 00:28:02.04\00:28:10.90 find us on Facebook, or give us a call. 00:28:15.86\00:28:18.45
