Hi friends and welcome to another edition of 00:01:12.90\00:01:15.47 Newstart Now. I'm your host Ron Giannoni. 00:01:15.50\00:01:18.67 We have a gentleman here... I'm going to let him tell you 00:01:18.71\00:01:21.54 where he's from, but his name is Jaques. 00:01:21.58\00:01:24.18 Let's take a look when Jacques first arrived. 00:01:24.21\00:01:26.95 I'm on five medications, one for my blood vessels, 00:01:30.39\00:01:38.03 the big blood vessels, one for my heart, and I have also one 00:01:38.06\00:01:45.57 my blood and that is for to make it thinner, blood thinner. 00:01:45.60\00:01:50.17 Another one for my kidney, and one to keep all of these 00:01:50.21\00:02:00.85 medications in control and I want to get off 00:02:00.88\00:02:05.65 all these medications. 00:02:05.69\00:02:07.46 Welcome back friend, help me welcome Jacques. 00:02:10.63\00:02:12.83 How are you brother? Thank you. I am good. 00:02:12.86\00:02:15.13 Now you're going to tell us where you are from. 00:02:15.16\00:02:17.57 I am at the moment from the island St. Eustatius, 00:02:17.60\00:02:21.04 that's where I live. Originally I am from Sudan, 00:02:21.07\00:02:25.77 I lived a few years, well a lot of years in Holland 00:02:25.81\00:02:30.81 and now I moved to the island of St. Eustatius. 00:02:30.85\00:02:34.68 Okay now we just, we know what conditions you are dealing with 00:02:34.72\00:02:40.22 when you got here, congestive heart failure, perhaps a little 00:02:40.26\00:02:46.33 of kidney situation. You are on several medications, 00:02:46.36\00:02:50.67 we know that. Are you off all your medications now? 00:02:50.70\00:02:55.80 No, not yet. And so how are you doing so far in the program? 00:02:55.84\00:03:04.15 Well, I'm doing very very well for what I think about my 00:03:04.18\00:03:10.89 expectations. I'm off my kidney medication and with my 00:03:10.92\00:03:21.00 heart medication and my blood vessels it's...I'm like 00:03:21.03\00:03:25.07 let's say 30%, so 60%, 70% is off. 00:03:25.10\00:03:30.64 Good, that's good. Now you understand you got to 00:03:30.67\00:03:34.48 walk, right? Yep! There's a lot of walking involved. 00:03:34.51\00:03:37.21 A lot of walking involved. Have you lost any weight 00:03:37.25\00:03:39.95 while you were here? 00:03:39.98\00:03:41.32 I lost some weight in the beginning, I gained some 00:03:41.35\00:03:44.39 weight afterwards, but I'm under the weight that I 00:03:44.42\00:03:48.86 came in with. 00:03:48.89\00:03:50.43 Now Jacques, were you one of the ones, one of the guests 00:03:50.46\00:03:54.03 that was out eating the persimmons? 00:03:54.06\00:03:55.63 Um! You don't have to answer that. 00:03:55.66\00:04:00.57 Okay. You just did. 00:04:00.60\00:04:05.07 Yes. You know we had some guests here, they're on a fast 00:04:05.11\00:04:09.88 and they're eating eight or ten persimmons a day. 00:04:09.91\00:04:12.68 Well that's a lot. No, you can't do that. 00:04:12.71\00:04:14.22 No, no, not while you are fasting. No, no, no. 00:04:14.25\00:04:17.25 So, how did you adjust to the food here? Did you find that 00:04:17.29\00:04:23.59 difficult to adjust to? 00:04:23.63\00:04:25.53 No, not really. Well, I'm accustomed, kind of when I was 00:04:25.56\00:04:32.13 younger, I used to kind of experiment with vegetarian 00:04:32.17\00:04:36.74 food so I didn't have such a hard time of adjusting... 00:04:36.77\00:04:41.94 As a matter of fact, I was surprised in the different 00:04:41.98\00:04:47.15 variations of the dishes that they have here. 00:04:47.18\00:04:54.22 Um hum, now your doctor is Dr. Lukens or Gallant? 00:04:54.26\00:04:59.19 Dr. Lukens. Dr. Lukens. And was he different than your 00:04:59.23\00:05:04.77 doctors back in the islands? 00:05:04.80\00:05:06.47 Yes, of course. Doctors back at the islands, they... 00:05:06.50\00:05:10.31 You are diagnosed of sickness and they make sure you get 00:05:10.34\00:05:17.85 the right medicine and that's it. For the rest, there's no 00:05:17.88\00:05:22.15 coming off, you can't start talking about coming off a 00:05:22.18\00:05:25.45 medication. If you talk about coming off one medication, 00:05:25.49\00:05:29.92 they will ask you ok, well then, what shall we do in the place of 00:05:29.96\00:05:34.53 the one you are coming off? 00:05:34.56\00:05:36.63 So, they're not lifestyle doctors? No, they are not 00:05:36.67\00:05:40.90 lifestyle doctors. Do you find the doctors here are just 00:05:40.94\00:05:44.44 different, period? 00:05:44.47\00:05:45.97 Yeah, the different period. They're different because... 00:05:46.01\00:05:48.74 what they do, they don't only talk about your condition, 00:05:48.78\00:05:56.28 they also explain how you come off the condition. 00:05:56.32\00:06:02.16 They explain the different nutrition and the values of 00:06:02.19\00:06:07.56 nutrition. The different... the different things to eat 00:06:07.60\00:06:13.54 that would get you where you want to be. 00:06:13.57\00:06:16.14 So, did the program meet your expectations? 00:06:16.17\00:06:21.28 Yes, it met my expectations. I know I am not there yet 00:06:21.31\00:06:26.25 but I feel that I am on the right track, I have a lot of 00:06:26.28\00:06:30.85 doctors there that I know this is good, this is good, 00:06:30.89\00:06:32.99 but now I have a line to walk to know that if I walk this line 00:06:33.02\00:06:37.23 I'm really going to get off my medications. 00:06:37.26\00:06:40.33 That's right, that's right. 00:06:40.36\00:06:42.43 And better yet, you're going to get healthier and healthier 00:06:42.46\00:06:45.90 and healthier. Yeah. It happened to me as well Jacques, 00:06:45.93\00:06:49.00 as I told you before the interview. 00:06:49.04\00:06:51.57 So you're on the right track, your wife is with you, right? 00:06:51.61\00:06:56.51 Yes. Which is the good thing because how are you going to 00:06:56.54\00:06:59.11 go back home and explain what you learned? 00:06:59.15\00:07:02.35 Yeah, that would be very difficult. Very very difficult. 00:07:02.38\00:07:04.89 I mean after all these years, it's hard for me to explain, 00:07:04.92\00:07:08.62 but my wife came with me as well. Okay. 00:07:08.66\00:07:10.96 So you are a lucky man. Yes, definitely. 00:07:10.99\00:07:14.76 The cooking classes, were they of a benefit to you? 00:07:14.80\00:07:19.97 Yes, definitely. You know there's something about 00:07:20.00\00:07:24.27 reading it from the paper or seeing somebody doing it, 00:07:24.31\00:07:29.81 somebody explaining it. They always tell you their own 00:07:29.84\00:07:33.88 secrets that normally is not in the book or on paper, 00:07:33.92\00:07:38.72 so that was very beneficial. I can see myself going through 00:07:38.75\00:07:44.36 the process of doing certain things 00:07:44.39\00:07:45.83 and Knowing how to do it. 00:07:45.86\00:07:47.93 Yes. Especially with things like and a...like help tools 00:07:47.96\00:07:53.67 like a food processor and which one... 00:07:53.70\00:07:56.64 Yeah, they are very important to know. 00:07:56.67\00:07:59.31 Right! Um, before I ask you your favorite part of the 00:07:59.34\00:08:04.68 program, how did you enjoy your massages? 00:08:04.71\00:08:07.68 Oh, massages were great. 00:08:07.72\00:08:11.02 How many did you receive while you were here? 00:08:11.05\00:08:13.86 Ah, eight. Eight? Yeah, three every week and two 00:08:13.89\00:08:18.46 the last week. That's wonderful. 00:08:18.49\00:08:21.06 Yeah. Did that help you? Were you struggling with 00:08:21.10\00:08:24.80 your legs and your hips when you started walking? 00:08:24.83\00:08:27.97 Yeah, well not really...well after a while you get something 00:08:28.00\00:08:36.11 like...you feel some volunteer coming up, you feel some 00:08:36.14\00:08:40.35 kind of...you feel something in your hip. 00:08:40.85\00:08:42.65 But, like I said, I used to walk in the mountains 00:08:42.68\00:08:47.06 and so I can adjust very very quick. 00:08:47.09\00:08:52.06 You're used to it. Yeah. One last question, 00:08:52.09\00:08:54.86 we're running out of time. 00:08:54.90\00:08:56.23 Ok. What was your favorite part of the program? 00:08:56.26\00:08:58.07 My favorite part...I think the lectures that kind of... 00:08:58.10\00:09:08.68 how you say it? Something that you know already, but they 00:09:08.71\00:09:15.95 promote what you know. Amen! Amen! 00:09:15.98\00:09:21.26 Jacques, I want to thank you brother. God be with you. 00:09:21.29\00:09:24.13 Thank you. We will doing some follow up. 00:09:24.16\00:09:26.36 Yes! Thank you friends but don't go away, 00:09:26.39\00:09:28.63 because Dr. Lukens is up next. 00:09:28.66\00:09:30.70 Welcome back friends, help me welcome Dr. Lukens. 00:10:07.50\00:10:11.64 Very nice, very nice to be here. Good to see you. 00:10:11.67\00:10:14.34 I know you are a busy guy like the rest of these doctors. 00:10:14.38\00:10:18.18 You guys are taking on guests eight, nine and ten at a time. 00:10:18.21\00:10:22.85 Let me tell you how bad it is here. We have to go on a picnic 00:10:22.88\00:10:27.19 with our guests. That's pretty bad, that must... 00:10:27.22\00:10:31.59 It's wonderful, they love it, they say they never had a chance 00:10:31.63\00:10:34.36 to really sit down and chat or walk and chat with their 00:10:34.40\00:10:38.50 doctor. Well, yeah but you guys do that and you are one on one 00:10:38.53\00:10:42.50 with them on five different occasions, 00:10:42.54\00:10:44.71 I know that for a fact. Yeah. 00:10:44.74\00:10:46.17 At least that is what I tell them before they get here. 00:10:46.21\00:10:48.74 I hope you are doing that. Yeah. 00:10:48.78\00:10:51.78 Incidentally, the first one is an hour long visit than the 00:10:51.81\00:10:55.52 other four half hour visits. 00:10:55.55\00:10:57.75 Yeah. And we do a treadmill and a lot of other testing. 00:10:57.79\00:11:03.86 We do lab work and we can find out what's going on and 00:11:03.89\00:11:10.37 some of the time, some of the time it's like a miracle, 00:11:10.40\00:11:15.00 we just had another one this session where the guy's 00:11:15.04\00:11:18.17 triglycerides were around a thousand and they came down 00:11:18.21\00:11:22.61 to 200. Wow! Yeah well I mean he never... 00:11:22.64\00:11:27.88 Oh, I haven't seen that in 30 years. 00:11:27.92\00:11:30.42 Well, I've never heard of it either obviously but... 00:11:30.45\00:11:32.95 What about Jacques? Now this is a guy that we are talking about 00:11:32.99\00:11:36.62 here and he seems to be doing okay, his attitude is 00:11:36.66\00:11:39.89 really good, he seems like he is going through some changes, 00:11:39.93\00:11:43.37 what say you? 00:11:43.40\00:11:45.10 He's 60 years old and he's from the Caribbean 00:11:45.13\00:11:50.71 but he's worked for years in Holland as well. 00:11:50.74\00:11:55.11 He has an interesting history because when he was 00:11:55.14\00:11:59.98 10 years old, he came down with a kidney disease 00:12:00.02\00:12:03.89 and my ancient past, they used to call that 00:12:03.92\00:12:08.76 Lipoid Nephrosis. I don't hear that term so much, 00:12:08.79\00:12:12.49 because I'm not a Pediatrician. 00:12:12.53\00:12:14.40 But he said from being a well kid and it just comes on like 00:12:14.43\00:12:19.40 that and hopefully you get older and it goes away, 00:12:19.43\00:12:23.20 but he said that his legs swell so much that the skin in his 00:12:23.24\00:12:29.64 ankles was hanging over his shoes. 00:12:29.68\00:12:31.81 Wow! So he was really... It was really wonderful 00:12:31.85\00:12:37.45 and he didn't tell me what all they did, but he got over that 00:12:37.49\00:12:42.22 and then he was going along pretty good and his... 00:12:42.26\00:12:46.29 I see this almost never. But the atrium...most people have 00:12:46.33\00:12:53.17 never heard atrial fibrillation where the top is just quivering 00:12:53.20\00:12:57.61 and that can be really expensive to try to get that ironed out. 00:12:57.64\00:13:02.51 Well, his is a flutter so it's going like this instead of 00:13:02.54\00:13:05.75 like this and he was so tired, he just couldn't function 00:13:05.78\00:13:13.22 and there's something called the injection fraction 00:13:13.25\00:13:16.83 and every time your heart beats, 45 to 60% of the left ventricle 00:13:16.86\00:13:23.33 is supposed to squeeze out and go into your circulation. 00:13:23.37\00:13:28.07 Well, his was down to 14. Umm! And that was really tough. 00:13:28.10\00:13:34.58 He's been on some medication for it and he has gotten better, 00:13:34.61\00:13:37.88 he's been able to do some exercising and so forth but 00:13:37.91\00:13:41.68 he just wants to get off of it- some of the time it makes him 00:13:41.72\00:13:45.79 feel tired and I said well, if you get off of it, 00:13:45.82\00:13:50.66 and your doctor's not happy about it because you 00:13:50.69\00:13:54.36 go into an arrhythmia, that could be tens of thousands 00:13:54.40\00:13:58.30 of dollars to have to catheterize your heart and do 00:13:58.33\00:14:01.90 things like that to get that to go away. 00:14:01.94\00:14:04.67 So we got it...he came and he decided man, 00:14:04.71\00:14:09.88 I came here to get off of all my medicine, 00:14:09.91\00:14:12.31 so I had to talk to him like a Dutch Uncle...and anyway... 00:14:12.35\00:14:16.69 I said look you have done so well here, he's walked up to 00:14:16.72\00:14:20.92 seven miles and a... Per day you're saying. 00:14:20.96\00:14:25.03 Yeah, his average is five but he's walked up to seven miles. 00:14:25.06\00:14:30.13 Um hum. And he feels great, he lost a little bit of weight 00:14:30.17\00:14:34.67 but his numbers are good and his kidneys are better than 00:14:34.70\00:14:41.14 normal actually. 00:14:41.18\00:14:43.31 Wow! So, he's happy, but I guess we tell people 00:14:43.35\00:14:50.42 come to Weimar and we'll get you off your medications 00:14:50.45\00:14:54.32 but sometimes you have to be judicious and he understands 00:14:54.36\00:14:59.33 that and everything. But I think that probably they can 00:14:59.36\00:15:04.40 put another halter on him and when it doesn't show the 00:15:04.43\00:15:09.14 arrhythmia any more and then he can do it again in a couple of 00:15:09.17\00:15:11.37 months, I think his doctor will let him go off his meds. 00:15:11.41\00:15:15.34 Well for the most part people that come here do get off their 00:15:15.38\00:15:19.28 medications. I know that happened to me and 00:15:19.31\00:15:21.35 several people since I've been here, I've watched these 00:15:21.38\00:15:25.19 miracles happen as I call them. So but once in awhile 00:15:25.22\00:15:29.82 it's just not happening and I know that you doctors know 00:15:29.86\00:15:35.00 best and so you don't take him off these medications. 00:15:35.03\00:15:38.30 Not right away but he cut his in half all the way around by... 00:15:38.33\00:15:42.30 On his own and he said what do you think of that and I 00:15:42.34\00:15:45.97 said, well, it's been enough days and I'm not going to 00:15:46.01\00:15:48.98 jack him back up but I'm not responsible. 00:15:49.01\00:15:53.11 All right. We've run out of time. 00:15:53.15\00:15:55.75 I want to thank you for taking your time and God bless you 00:15:55.78\00:16:00.09 and God bless your work. Very good. 00:16:00.12\00:16:02.02 Good to see you again. I'm glad he came. 00:16:02.06\00:16:04.69 Yeah me too. Thank you friends and don't go away 00:16:04.73\00:16:07.20 because Pr. Damon is up next. 00:16:07.23\00:16:10.67 Welcome back friends. Pr. Snead, speaking of friends. 00:16:14.94\00:16:20.34 How are you? I'm doing great brother. 00:16:20.38\00:16:22.54 Good to see you. Thank you. 00:16:22.58\00:16:24.21 I want to talk about Jacques. 00:16:24.25\00:16:26.08 Is that how you pronounce his name? Jacques, yes. 00:16:26.11\00:16:28.82 Jacques. That's an unusual name isn't it? 00:16:28.85\00:16:32.15 For us over here. Yeah. Over here yeah. 00:16:32.19\00:16:34.32 But none-the-less, I know that in some ways Jacques 00:16:34.36\00:16:39.59 is struggling and I know it has a lot to do with his 00:16:39.63\00:16:44.00 physical self, with his heart and some other things he's 00:16:44.03\00:16:48.40 dealing with but none-the-less, how is he coming 00:16:48.44\00:16:52.37 along spiritually? 00:16:52.41\00:16:53.88 I think that spiritually- he came here on a spiritual high. 00:16:53.91\00:16:59.51 I listen to him and he tells me that's great, that's a 00:16:59.55\00:17:03.62 wonderful sermon, but he's already at a fevered pitch. 00:17:03.65\00:17:07.79 He's there in other words. Yes. 00:17:07.82\00:17:10.93 I contributed little to him. Really. 00:17:10.96\00:17:13.76 I think it's his condition that brought him to that place. 00:17:13.80\00:17:19.80 He's had a rough childhood, raised by a grandparent, 00:17:19.83\00:17:23.44 mother died at a very young age from a heart condition later. 00:17:23.47\00:17:28.71 He didn't understand why his mother died so young 00:17:28.74\00:17:31.11 until he found out that he had that same kind of condition 00:17:31.15\00:17:33.52 where his heart is enlarging and then thins and then can 00:17:33.55\00:17:36.48 explode. 00:17:36.52\00:17:39.35 How did he get this spiritual attitude? 00:17:39.39\00:17:42.92 This conviction that is... where did that come from? 00:17:42.96\00:17:46.39 Something that he told me in one of our interviews that 00:17:46.43\00:17:49.03 that just profoundly impacted me personally because 00:17:49.06\00:17:54.17 I though this is a great thought. 00:17:54.20\00:17:55.90 Now I don't want to be in his physical condition, 00:17:55.94\00:17:57.81 who would want to have a heart that is thinning and thinning 00:17:57.84\00:18:00.34 and thinning that it could explode and you have to be on 00:18:00.38\00:18:02.24 medicines and...But he told me when he realized 00:18:02.28\00:18:06.41 when they told him what he had and his mother had died of... 00:18:06.45\00:18:09.32 He realized right then, that he has to live a very different 00:18:09.35\00:18:12.75 kind of life than the average person. 00:18:12.79\00:18:14.82 He cannot afford to go weeks, days, months without connecting 00:18:14.86\00:18:20.26 with God because literally at any moment his life could end. 00:18:20.30\00:18:24.07 So that has driven him into this consciousness that 00:18:24.10\00:18:29.00 I've got to be right with God and of course he's working on 00:18:29.04\00:18:31.17 his health, that's why he's here, he's doing all he can 00:18:31.21\00:18:33.34 in that way, but he knows, I've got to keep my spirituality 00:18:33.38\00:18:36.81 at optimum at all times, I can't afford to ever let up. 00:18:36.85\00:18:41.45 So he's blessed. Yes, that's strange 00:18:41.48\00:18:45.05 I don't know if I want that kind of blessing. 00:18:45.09\00:18:46.99 But I do, but I don't, but that's the beauty of it. 00:18:47.02\00:18:53.63 It was such a spiritual lesson for me to think, 00:18:53.66\00:18:56.63 man, that's how we all need to be at all times. 00:18:56.67\00:18:59.27 Amen! When you think about it, look, what do we have here 00:18:59.30\00:19:02.74 70, 80, 90, years. What do we have when we leave here? 00:19:02.77\00:19:06.71 We have eternity, when you compare 90 years with eternity, 00:19:06.74\00:19:12.65 this is nothing. That's right. 00:19:12.68\00:19:15.32 That's what I meant by he's blessed because he's really 00:19:15.35\00:19:20.26 is getting it. This could be his last breath that he is 00:19:20.29\00:19:23.53 taking right at this moment. 00:19:23.56\00:19:25.43 He's not distracted with the things that we're 00:19:25.46\00:19:27.53 distracted with. Maybe not us but others. 00:19:27.56\00:19:31.30 Me myself at times...He's just not in to the things 00:19:31.33\00:19:33.64 that distract us because he's constantly being reminded 00:19:33.67\00:19:36.44 every time he wakes up... 00:19:36.47\00:19:37.81 Every time he hears his own heartbeat, he's thinking... 00:19:37.84\00:19:42.48 Is this it? Is this the big one? 00:19:42.51\00:19:44.61 That's disturbing to me and yet, I wish I could live that way 00:19:44.65\00:19:48.68 constantly. Every time I hear my heart I'm thinking 00:19:48.72\00:19:51.55 well is today my last day, is tomorrow my last day. 00:19:51.59\00:19:54.06 You know, you look at the newspapers today, good men, 00:19:54.09\00:19:57.59 Christian people are dying all the time, all around us 00:19:57.63\00:20:00.93 and so there's nothing to say that tomorrow's not mine. 00:20:00.96\00:20:05.30 That's right. There's nothing to say that. 00:20:05.33\00:20:08.44 So I should have the same attitude that Jacques does. 00:20:08.47\00:20:11.81 I mean, I was really impressed with him. 00:20:11.84\00:20:15.61 From my perspective, you do and what you shared with us 00:20:15.64\00:20:21.45 at church last night on your "Wheel of Faith" presentation, 00:20:21.48\00:20:25.82 I see the only thing that Paul got wrong... 00:20:25.85\00:20:31.26 I'm not saying that Paul is wrong, but if you were to 00:20:31.29\00:20:34.33 re-write it, he might say, I die moment by moment 00:20:34.36\00:20:38.13 rather than I die daily. Oh yes. 00:20:38.17\00:20:41.04 Because isn't it a moment by moment that we need to 00:20:41.07\00:20:44.04 surrender and give our heart to the Lord? 00:20:44.07\00:20:46.31 We can't trust ourselves as far as we can throw ourselves. 00:20:46.34\00:20:49.51 By moment by moment, you are right because I could 00:20:49.54\00:20:51.75 walk out of here, spiritually doing so great, 00:20:51.78\00:20:53.95 everyone loves me and then run into someone in the hallway 00:20:53.98\00:20:56.18 and then just have a moment. 00:20:56.38\00:20:57.72 That's right. Forget what I'm doing a get upset or... 00:20:57.75\00:21:00.66 literally moment by moment is how we...heartbeat by heartbeat 00:21:00.69\00:21:04.96 like our brother. 00:21:04.99\00:21:06.33 Man, it's so good to talk to you like this. 00:21:07.53\00:21:09.86 We're running out of time. I want to thank you brother. 00:21:09.93\00:21:12.63 All righty my friend. God bless you and your ministry. 00:21:12.67\00:21:14.94 Don't go away, Dr. Nedley and Dr. Ramerez are up next. 00:21:14.97\00:21:20.04 Every year in America there are over 1 million deaths because of 00:21:23.08\00:21:26.31 Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Obesity. 00:21:26.35\00:21:28.45 This includes Heart Attacks and Strokes. 00:21:28.48\00:21:30.85 That's six and a half 747's crashing every day. 00:21:30.89\00:21:34.16 What's even more surprising is that The Fix Is Easy. 00:21:34.19\00:21:37.79 It's Your Lifestyle. 00:21:37.83\00:21:39.49 Wouldn't be nice if you could actually add quality years 00:21:39.53\00:21:42.40 to your life rather than dying an organ at a time? 00:21:42.43\00:21:45.20 Obesity and Diabetes are the cause of over a million deaths 00:21:45.23\00:21:48.80 per year. 00:21:48.84\00:21:50.17 Most diseases are reversible because most diseases are 00:21:50.21\00:21:53.54 Lifestyle Diseases. 00:21:53.58\00:21:54.91 Especially Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Obesity. 00:21:54.94\00:21:58.01 Seriously now, they can be reversed and the quality 00:21:58.05\00:22:01.48 of your life can be renewed. 00:22:01.52\00:22:03.79 You will see dramatic in the first few days of our program 00:22:10.23\00:22:14.20 and you will be on the road to a better, more robust quality 00:22:14.23\00:22:17.17 of life. The Newstart Programs are Simple and Effective. 00:22:17.20\00:22:21.40 Welcome to Weimar Institute Research. 00:22:23.71\00:22:26.21 Today we have Dr. Ramirez, the head of our research at 00:22:26.24\00:22:30.98 Weimar College who teaches in our health science department, 00:22:31.01\00:22:34.55 research methods and today we have another angle at looking at 00:22:34.58\00:22:41.79 some health principles and tell us about this particular angle 00:22:41.82\00:22:46.43 Dr. Rameriz. 00:22:46.46\00:22:47.80 Yeah, this one is dealing about regularity and it's interesting 00:22:47.83\00:22:51.33 because I've been to more than 60 countries lecturing about 00:22:51.37\00:22:54.67 these principles of Newstart and people come to me and say, 00:22:54.70\00:22:58.41 you know this is the first time I hear that regularity is 00:22:58.44\00:23:01.24 important for my health. 00:23:01.28\00:23:02.81 Yes, we have a...we know that circadian rhythms are important 00:23:02.84\00:23:08.18 and this is our daily cycle. 00:23:08.22\00:23:12.42 We also know that light helps set the circadian rhythms 00:23:12.45\00:23:16.76 and if our circadian rhythms are doing well, 00:23:16.79\00:23:18.96 we're going to be sleeping better. 00:23:18.99\00:23:22.10 But this is also taking a look not only at regularity regarding 00:23:22.13\00:23:26.90 sleep, but regularity in another area. 00:23:26.94\00:23:29.90 Also in your meals, eating your meals at the same time 00:23:29.94\00:23:36.11 every day, including the weekends. 00:23:36.14\00:23:37.71 Ok, so if you have regularity in eating, it actually can improve 00:23:37.75\00:23:43.99 your health. 00:23:44.02\00:23:45.95 That's right. Now what area of health are you 00:23:45.99\00:23:48.02 looking at? 00:23:48.06\00:23:49.39 We were focusing here, on mental health. 00:23:49.42\00:23:52.59 What effect does regular eating and sleeping have on your 00:23:52.63\00:23:57.23 depression? 00:23:57.27\00:23:58.60 I went to a GI conference a little over a year ago 00:23:58.63\00:24:02.07 where they talked about even our bowel has a circadian rhythm. 00:24:02.10\00:24:06.78 Um hum. It does much better if we have that rhythm 00:24:06.81\00:24:10.78 aligned and on a regular basis. 00:24:10.81\00:24:13.72 We have the solution to the Blue Monday that many people 00:24:13.75\00:24:18.52 suffer from worldwide. 00:24:18.55\00:24:21.92 Yeah, the Blue Monday because they get off in their sleep 00:24:21.96\00:24:26.70 and they get off in their meals. That's right. 00:24:26.73\00:24:29.46 So how many people were you looking at? 00:24:29.50\00:24:31.93 So this is a big sample 5,621 participants that did an eight 00:24:31.97\00:24:39.84 week Community Education Week program. 00:24:39.87\00:24:42.61 Okay, and that Community Education Program was the 00:24:42.64\00:24:46.11 depression and anxiety recovery program. Um hum. 00:24:46.15\00:24:49.48 And by going to that program, they take a test 00:24:49.52\00:24:53.49 at the beginning to see where they are at and assess them. 00:24:53.52\00:24:57.09 What did we find out in that first test? 00:24:57.13\00:24:59.79 What we found out is that those people that don't have 00:24:59.83\00:25:02.96 regularity, tend to have higher levels of depression. 00:25:03.00\00:25:07.54 Fifteen points on average compared to those that 00:25:07.57\00:25:11.27 have that regularity that their mental health is much better. 00:25:11.31\00:25:15.91 Okay, so regularity in both things then. 00:25:15.94\00:25:19.28 Both things. Sleeping and eating will 00:25:19.31\00:25:21.45 actually help your depression and anxieties significantly, 00:25:21.48\00:25:25.79 or not make it as severe if you have it. 00:25:25.82\00:25:27.96 We also found out that those that are not regular 00:25:27.99\00:25:31.89 are about 30% of them, they don't sleep good, 00:25:31.93\00:25:36.40 they have bad sleep. 00:25:36.43\00:25:38.03 Okay, so it will also affect your sleep. 00:25:38.07\00:25:40.84 Now what happened during the eight weeks then? 00:25:40.87\00:25:43.94 So through the eight weeks, they were educated on this 00:25:43.97\00:25:47.38 Newstart principles that are so important, 00:25:47.41\00:25:50.31 but also on that regularity because our brain doesn't 00:25:50.35\00:25:54.82 work when there is disaster in our lives. 00:25:54.85\00:25:57.15 So were some of them convinced enough to change 00:25:57.19\00:26:00.49 their lifestyle? I know the program isn't just about 00:26:00.52\00:26:03.22 regularity, there's a lot of other things like... 00:26:03.26\00:26:05.26 That's right. Lots of Behavioral therapy and nutrition, 00:26:05.29\00:26:07.76 but did some people actually change their lifestyle habits? 00:26:07.80\00:26:12.60 By the end of the program, 12% of those non-regulars 00:26:12.63\00:26:17.51 decided to become regulars and it was reflected 00:26:17.54\00:26:20.21 in their scores. Okay, so if they did become 00:26:20.24\00:26:23.24 regular, what happened? 00:26:23.28\00:26:24.61 If they became regular, it was reflected on lower depression 00:26:24.65\00:26:29.42 levels, some of them non- depression level 00:26:29.45\00:26:32.09 and also their sleep quality. Only 15%, no only 8% 00:26:32.12\00:26:38.59 by the end of the program had bad sleep. 00:26:38.63\00:26:42.63 So from 30% that didn't have regularity, 00:26:42.66\00:26:46.30 those that are regular by the end 8% only had bad sleep. 00:26:46.33\00:26:50.64 So just becoming regular in the time you are going to bed, 00:26:50.67\00:26:53.88 the time you are getting up, and regular in meals 00:26:53.91\00:26:56.68 can turn you from a bad sleeper into a good sleeper. 00:26:56.71\00:27:01.02 That's correct. That's a dramatic improvement. 00:27:01.05\00:27:03.18 The vast majority of those who did that improved 00:27:03.22\00:27:06.42 just by doing that. 00:27:06.45\00:27:07.99 That's right. As a result of improving their circadian rhythm 00:27:08.02\00:27:12.16 of their sleep patterns and their meals, 00:27:12.19\00:27:14.73 their depression and anxiety recovery scores became 00:27:14.76\00:27:18.73 far better as well. 00:27:18.77\00:27:20.24 I would like to encourage you to be regular in your sleeping 00:27:20.27\00:27:25.24 and eating habits. It can pay rich dividends in better sleep 00:27:25.27\00:27:30.38 and better mood. 00:27:30.41\00:27:31.75 Thank you for watching Weimar Institute Research. 00:27:31.78\00:27:36.79 Well friends that's it for today, but join us next week 00:27:39.99\00:27:43.22 for another episode. 00:27:43.26\00:27:44.99 In the meantime pick up the phone and give us a call at: 00:27:45.03\00:27:48.56 Mention the Newstart Now program and receive 00:27:52.60\00:27:56.44 the Newstart Special. 00:27:56.47\00:27:58.37
