Hi friends and welcome to another edition of Newstart Now. 00:00:44.81\00:00:48.08 I am your host Ron Giannoni. 00:00:48.11\00:00:50.45 In our studios we have a lovely young lady by name of 00:00:50.48\00:00:54.25 Donjulie Aranha, and I hope that I pronounced that right. 00:00:54.28\00:00:58.72 Let's take a look at when she first arrived. 00:01:01.06\00:01:03.02 That's a great question. I really wanted a change 00:01:03.26\00:01:06.19 in my life. I have been at different jobs that tend to be 00:01:06.23\00:01:10.57 very stressful and with that stress, I tend to eat... 00:01:10.60\00:01:13.54 I'm typically on a vegetarian diet most of the time, 00:01:13.57\00:01:17.84 but even with that, I was gaining weight, 00:01:17.87\00:01:19.97 not sleeping very well and just not being able to function 00:01:20.01\00:01:23.91 like I used to, so I really wanted a change. 00:01:23.95\00:01:27.02 I'd like to see myself loose weight, get on a good 00:01:27.05\00:01:30.59 sleep schedule. I'd like to see my stress level decrease 00:01:30.62\00:01:34.16 and learn how to handle stress. 00:01:34.19\00:01:35.66 Welcome back friends. 00:01:37.66\00:01:39.09 Help me welcome back Donjulie. That's an unusual first name. 00:01:39.13\00:01:43.80 It is. Donjulie, it's hyphenated right? 00:01:43.83\00:01:47.94 No, actually it's one word. One word? 00:01:47.97\00:01:49.90 Um hum. It's my parents name put together. 00:01:49.94\00:01:51.54 Oh right, Don and Julie. Yes. Ah, I should have figured that. 00:01:51.57\00:01:55.08 It was my dad's idea so. I'm sure glad they didn't call 00:01:55.11\00:01:58.18 me MarchApril, because that would...No I'm... 00:01:58.21\00:02:02.52 Yeah, some of those don't work. My dad's name was Amariko. 00:02:02.55\00:02:08.06 Oh, okay. And my mother Rosemary, so Amariko 00:02:08.09\00:02:11.89 would have fit in there. Rosemary wouldn't fit in there. 00:02:11.93\00:02:15.06 Tell us about you though, how are you doing? 00:02:15.10\00:02:18.97 I'm doing great, I'm doing really great. 00:02:19.00\00:02:21.24 What's changed? 00:02:21.27\00:02:22.60 I think a lot of things have changed. 00:02:22.64\00:02:24.11 My attitude has changed, I feel so much, I guess lighter 00:02:24.14\00:02:28.94 in a sense. Not just because I lost a little bit of weight. 00:02:28.98\00:02:31.38 But also...How much weight did you lose? 00:02:31.41\00:02:33.92 Just five pounds. Well that... But still...Just... 00:02:33.95\00:02:38.05 I was aiming for 50, so... Fifty/55 so... 00:02:38.09\00:02:41.76 That's all right. That's a start right? 00:02:41.79\00:02:44.39 It is, it is, exactly. All good paths start with a first step. 00:02:44.43\00:02:47.76 Exactly. The first five pounds. 00:02:47.80\00:02:50.23 Exactly, so I know it's going to keep going down, 00:02:50.27\00:02:52.67 especially as I continue to follow what I have learned here. 00:02:52.70\00:02:56.00 So. But it's been really great, I feel as though I am a lot 00:02:56.04\00:02:59.57 less stressed and I'm learning better how to manage my stress. 00:02:59.61\00:03:03.68 How to cut back on work and how to say no, how to have 00:03:03.71\00:03:06.31 those boundaries that you need to have. 00:03:06.35\00:03:08.12 But also and probably most importantly, how to have 00:03:08.15\00:03:10.42 the trust in God more and really give those concerns and worries 00:03:10.45\00:03:14.82 over to Him. 00:03:14.86\00:03:16.19 My wife, we picked you up the other day...You did. 00:03:16.22\00:03:19.69 My wife had this to say about you, she says now there is 00:03:19.73\00:03:25.63 an act of faith. Ahh. Cause your moving on to an 00:03:25.67\00:03:30.77 area that isn't quite put together, but you are trusting 00:03:30.81\00:03:35.88 in the Lord that when you get to Florida, 00:03:35.91\00:03:38.95 because you are going there right? Correct. 00:03:38.98\00:03:40.85 Everything is going to work out just fine. 00:03:40.88\00:03:43.35 Yes, absolutely. That's a huge leap of faith. 00:03:43.39\00:03:46.55 It is. So you got her attention. It is and I think God has 00:03:46.59\00:03:53.09 throughout my life has encouraged me to take those 00:03:53.13\00:03:55.20 leaps of faith. Even with Florida, I didn't actually 00:03:55.23\00:03:58.53 have a job yet when I had already started to tell people 00:03:58.57\00:04:00.84 I was moving to Florida. 00:04:00.87\00:04:03.14 But I trusted and I really felt like God wanted me to go 00:04:03.17\00:04:06.21 there and so I just said, okay, that's where God wants me to go, 00:04:06.24\00:04:09.74 I had to say it and I know He will lead me there. 00:04:09.78\00:04:12.38 The same with coming here, it's amazing how He did that. 00:04:12.41\00:04:14.95 Amen. Amen. how did you like your experience here at 00:04:14.98\00:04:19.29 The Newstart Program? 00:04:19.32\00:04:20.66 I really enjoyed it, like I said, not just because 00:04:20.69\00:04:24.59 I lost a little weight, but the food was actually 00:04:24.63\00:04:26.83 not that bad. I enjoyed some of it for sure, and I realize 00:04:26.86\00:04:31.47 that some things I can definitely tweak 00:04:31.50\00:04:33.10 here and there because I love to cook and I love to add things 00:04:33.13\00:04:35.67 so I am looking forward to really trying out a lot of 00:04:35.70\00:04:38.17 the vegan dishes. Whole food or whole plant food based foods, 00:04:38.21\00:04:43.85 so I'm going to be looking forward to that. 00:04:43.88\00:04:46.61 Then also the team here is just really amazing. 00:04:46.65\00:04:50.19 Everyone was very kind, considerate, thoughtful. 00:04:50.22\00:04:52.59 I always felt as though I could go to someone for help 00:04:52.62\00:04:55.39 like needing a ride from the rental, car company. 00:04:55.42\00:04:59.29 So there's always...and everyone so nice, willing to help me 00:04:59.33\00:05:03.53 wherever needed and just the friendships that I feel as I've 00:05:03.57\00:05:06.20 formed here. It's been really rewarding. 00:05:06.23\00:05:08.80 They are priceless. They are. 00:05:08.84\00:05:10.84 Priceless! Yeah! I feel as though they will last through 00:05:10.87\00:05:13.17 eternity. So what was your favorite part of the program? 00:05:13.21\00:05:16.64 Favorite! The exercise. 00:05:16.68\00:05:21.75 The exercise? Yeah. Not the massage? 00:05:21.78\00:05:24.85 Oh, the hydrotherapy was really good. 00:05:24.89\00:05:27.22 Now that you said that. 00:05:27.26\00:05:30.83 I'm going to have to rethink this. 00:05:30.86\00:05:32.36 Yeah, the gals there are just pretty well educated in their 00:05:32.39\00:05:38.30 therapy, huh. They are and I've never 00:05:38.33\00:05:40.64 experienced that with the heat, the shower, 00:05:40.67\00:05:43.84 you do hot first for three minutes and then cold 00:05:43.87\00:05:47.68 for thirty seconds. At first I really kind of enjoyed it 00:05:47.71\00:05:52.21 in the shower, and then they did the submersion where 00:05:52.25\00:05:54.82 I had to go in the tub and do it. That was like just oh. 00:05:54.85\00:05:58.32 But it feels so wonderful when you are done 00:05:58.35\00:06:01.02 and you really feel as though you are just so relaxed. 00:06:01.06\00:06:03.06 All you want to do is go to your bed and sleep. 00:06:03.09\00:06:05.19 I'm like I wish I could have this all the time. 00:06:05.23\00:06:09.33 Isn't it amazing. It is, it really is. 00:06:09.36\00:06:12.57 I do hydrotherapy when they need help with the men. 00:06:12.63\00:06:17.14 Oh. It's amazing when I see people go through that they say 00:06:17.17\00:06:22.31 they'd never do, but yet they love it the most. 00:06:22.34\00:06:24.81 Right, right. It's the deep hot and cold. Yeah. 00:06:24.85\00:06:27.52 It's amazing, it really is. I'm like I have to do this 00:06:27.55\00:06:30.49 when I get home. Yeah. Absolutely. 00:06:30.52\00:06:32.75 So has anything changed with regards to your walk with 00:06:32.79\00:06:38.13 the Lord? Yes. I definitely feel more as though I am 00:06:38.16\00:06:42.03 willing to give things over to Him. 00:06:42.06\00:06:44.07 Um, I think before I was holding on to a lot of things 00:06:44.10\00:06:47.47 trying to figure out things my way and not really fully 00:06:47.50\00:06:50.61 releasing it to Him and being in this environment 00:06:50.64\00:06:52.51 with so many people that I feel as though they really have a 00:06:52.54\00:06:55.31 relationship with God has been really helpful for me to better 00:06:55.34\00:06:58.55 understand how I can let go of my burdens 00:06:58.58\00:07:00.82 and really give it to Him, rather than kind of partially 00:07:00.85\00:07:04.19 give it to him and kind of hold on to some of it. 00:07:04.22\00:07:06.32 Yeah, I know that trick. 00:07:06.35\00:07:08.72 So, what about when you get to Florida now? 00:07:08.76\00:07:13.40 How are you going to deal with this new lifestyle? 00:07:13.43\00:07:17.00 If you learn how to eat in the restaurants and how to prepare 00:07:17.03\00:07:22.90 foods for yourself. Absolutely and I know I didn't 00:07:22.94\00:07:26.64 previously say this before, because I wanted to keep it 00:07:26.68\00:07:29.08 kind of on the down low but I'm actually a dietician. 00:07:29.11\00:07:31.41 So a lot of this information I actually do know and have 00:07:31.45\00:07:36.35 practiced it in the past and then just kind of went away 00:07:36.38\00:07:39.09 from it all so now this is like in a sense a restart for me. 00:07:39.12\00:07:43.12 I'm coming back re-learning, getting the recipes, 00:07:43.43\00:07:47.63 understanding better why, because even though I am a 00:07:47.66\00:07:51.00 dietician, the why piece sometimes isn't always 00:07:51.03\00:07:53.40 fully explained in school. So really understanding why 00:07:53.44\00:07:55.80 these things are beneficial to make these changes 00:07:55.84\00:07:58.57 and just seeing my lab levels... See them go down, my cholesterol 00:07:58.61\00:08:02.51 went down and my triglycerides went down, so just seeing all 00:08:02.54\00:08:06.21 of those changes. So it's actually going to be really 00:08:06.25\00:08:09.32 be rewarding because I am going to be doing a lot of 00:08:09.35\00:08:12.05 experimentation, cause I like that and be able to share the 00:08:12.09\00:08:14.69 knowledge that I have with others. 00:08:14.72\00:08:16.46 So not all dieticians are created the same. 00:08:16.49\00:08:20.03 Yeah, I've told that to guests before and they go, 00:08:20.06\00:08:24.90 well, I saw my dietician, she says I got to have 5 meals 00:08:24.93\00:08:28.30 a day, this much meat...and I go ohh, stop. 00:08:28.34\00:08:32.24 Anyway Donjulie, I want to thank you for taking your time, 00:08:32.27\00:08:36.11 and I wish you well, we'll be praying for your journey 00:08:36.14\00:08:39.95 to Florida and God bless you. 00:08:40.02\00:08:42.38 Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. 00:08:42.42\00:08:44.49 Thank you friends but don't go away, Dr. Galant is up next. 00:08:44.52\00:08:49.16 Every year in America there are over 1 million deaths 00:08:51.53\00:08:54.60 because of Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Obesity. 00:08:54.63\00:08:57.17 This include Heart Attacks and Strokes. 00:08:57.20\00:08:59.77 That's 61/2747's crashing every day. 00:08:59.80\00:09:03.07 What's even more surprising is that the fix is easy 00:09:03.10\00:09:06.41 It's your lifestyle. 00:09:06.44\00:09:07.88 Wouldn't it be nice if you could actually add quality years 00:09:07.91\00:09:10.95 to your life rather than dying one organ at a time? 00:09:10.98\00:09:14.02 Obesity and Diabetes are the cause of over 00:09:14.05\00:09:16.55 a million deaths per year. 00:09:16.58\00:09:18.49 Most diseases are reversible because most diseases are 00:09:18.52\00:09:22.22 lifestyle diseases, especially Type 2 Diabetes and 00:09:22.26\00:09:25.63 Chronic Obesity. Seriously now, they can be reversed 00:09:25.66\00:09:29.46 and the quality of your life can be renewed 00:09:29.50\00:09:32.40 Call Newstart today at 1-800-525-9192 00:09:32.43\00:09:38.64 You'll see dramatic changes in the first few days 00:09:38.67\00:09:41.81 of our program and you will be on the road to a better 00:09:41.84\00:09:44.55 more robust quality of life. 00:09:44.58\00:09:46.21 The Newstart programs are simple and effective. 00:09:46.25\00:09:49.78 Help me welcome Dr. Roger Gallant. 00:09:52.99\00:09:55.52 Hi Ron, good to see you. Good to see you doctor. 00:09:55.56\00:09:58.26 You know, I have a special interest in Donjulie 00:09:58.29\00:10:01.36 because when she got here, she was having car troubles... 00:10:01.40\00:10:05.53 Yes. Being an old car guy, I tuned right in. 00:10:05.57\00:10:09.40 Sure. Sure. That's great... And help her along the way. 00:10:09.44\00:10:12.17 Yeah. But in doing so, I've gotten to know her just perhaps 00:10:12.21\00:10:16.44 a little bit more than I have some of the other guests. 00:10:16.48\00:10:18.85 And of course we interviewed her, how is she doing? 00:10:18.88\00:10:22.48 She's doing well. She's doing well. 00:10:22.52\00:10:24.59 You know what I appreciate about her is she's always happy 00:10:24.62\00:10:29.06 always laughing, smiling, she's a very jovial person. 00:10:29.09\00:10:33.86 Yeah. I really appreciate that about her. 00:10:33.90\00:10:36.83 I didn't know if that was nervous laughter or... 00:10:36.87\00:10:39.47 Well maybe there is some but I appreciate that she's 00:10:39.50\00:10:43.07 she's always looking at the positive you know. 00:10:43.10\00:10:46.71 Yeah. So. Yeah, but she's a wonderful person, 00:10:46.74\00:10:50.61 she's from the Bahamas and is here working as a 00:10:50.65\00:10:55.18 school psychologist and getting ready to move to Florida 00:10:55.22\00:10:58.75 which is going to be a big move for her but sounds like it's 00:10:58.79\00:11:02.79 going to be a good move. 00:11:02.82\00:11:04.16 Yeah, she likes, I think she likes that hotter weather. 00:11:04.19\00:11:08.96 A little more sultry. Yeah. 00:11:09.00\00:11:11.00 Yeah, that's right. That's the way it is down in Florida. 00:11:11.03\00:11:13.74 Yeah, it will be warm. 00:11:13.77\00:11:15.77 Now you were from that neck of the woods down... 00:11:15.80\00:11:18.37 I was born in Jamaica. Jamaica maan. Yep! 00:11:18.41\00:11:21.24 It's hot and sultry there. It's hot and humid in Jamaica. 00:11:21.28\00:11:25.98 Yeah it is, not as hot as Florida but it's still hot. 00:11:26.01\00:11:28.88 Yeah, so. I've never been there. 00:11:28.92\00:11:31.52 Well you should go, it's beautiful. 00:11:31.55\00:11:33.15 You'd like it. Really. I might do that one day. 00:11:33.19\00:11:36.19 I can take you on a trip, make you a deal you can't refuse. 00:11:36.22\00:11:40.73 Laughter! You should be a car salesman. 00:11:40.76\00:11:44.27 In your spare time. I've learned from the best. 00:11:44.30\00:11:46.80 Laughter. Oh my goodness. 00:11:46.84\00:11:49.90 So was Donjulie on any medication? 00:11:49.94\00:11:53.91 She came here, she had... No, she was not. 00:11:53.94\00:12:00.08 She was not, I don't think she was. 00:12:00.12\00:12:01.45 But here's the thing, she is... Her body is changing and she is 00:12:01.48\00:12:07.92 getting healthy. One of these bright people 00:12:07.96\00:12:10.86 that says, I'm to catch this before it starts. Right! 00:12:10.89\00:12:13.90 Right. So how is her body changing? 00:12:13.93\00:12:17.87 So she's losing weight, her blood sugar looks good, 00:12:17.90\00:12:22.24 her cholesterol is improving, everything is getting better, 00:12:22.27\00:12:26.78 it just takes time and I keep encouraging her, 00:12:26.81\00:12:30.05 you got to take your medicine. What medicine is that? 00:12:30.08\00:12:33.18 Walking. You just got to walk, walk, walk. 00:12:33.21\00:12:36.18 As she does more of that, things get better, her body gets... 00:12:36.22\00:12:41.09 Now how long does that take? If someone is serious 00:12:41.12\00:12:43.93 and they really want to get strong and healthy. 00:12:43.96\00:12:46.76 How long would it take, a reasonable amount of time? 00:12:46.80\00:12:50.53 Well, I think it depends on where they're starting, 00:12:50.57\00:12:52.97 point is. How sick they are when they come. 00:12:53.03\00:12:55.70 In two and a half weeks, 18 days you can see significant 00:12:55.74\00:13:03.35 improvements. Oh boy. You can see patients who 00:13:03.38\00:13:06.51 dropped cholesterol, dropped weight, dropped blood pressure, 00:13:06.55\00:13:11.49 dropped blood sugars in just 18 days. 00:13:11.52\00:13:14.26 But you've got to put the time in, you've got to do the work, 00:13:14.29\00:13:17.63 you've got to take the medicine. You got to walk. 00:13:17.66\00:13:19.89 These are all indicators that you more than likely 00:13:19.96\00:13:23.87 will not have an event. 00:13:23.90\00:13:25.23 Right. Right. Right. Isn't that what we really want? 00:13:25.27\00:13:28.40 Yeah! Whether it happens or not even if we did, 00:13:28.44\00:13:31.94 we'd be healthier. Right, right, we'd want to put our bodies 00:13:31.97\00:13:35.11 in the best condition so that we can be healthy. 00:13:35.14\00:13:37.65 Well optimally, how long does it take to be 00:13:37.68\00:13:40.25 in really good shape? 00:13:40.28\00:13:42.12 I think from what you are saying, really good shape, 00:13:42.15\00:13:46.35 optimal health, I think it takes more than just 18 days. 00:13:46.39\00:13:50.13 That's why we send patients home to continue the process 00:13:50.16\00:13:53.66 things that we started here, continue the habits we've 00:13:53.70\00:13:56.43 started here. I think it's a matter of months, now how many 00:13:56.46\00:13:59.60 months depends on how much they are working and where they 00:13:59.63\00:14:02.80 started from. Yeah. You know when I changed my 00:14:02.84\00:14:05.64 lifestyle 12 years ago, I would say in about 3 to 4 months 00:14:05.67\00:14:09.34 I was in good health. 00:14:09.38\00:14:11.65 Wow! I didn't have any bad health, I wasn't on medicines 00:14:11.68\00:14:14.98 or anything, but my health was deteriorating and 00:14:15.02\00:14:17.25 after following this lifestyle for 3 or 4 months, 00:14:17.29\00:14:21.59 I was significantly different, I lost weight, felt better, 00:14:21.62\00:14:25.56 had more energy, slept better at night which is a key one 00:14:25.59\00:14:29.16 because so many people have a difficulty sleeping 00:14:29.20\00:14:31.40 and I think my mind was sharper, it was clearer. 00:14:31.43\00:14:35.40 How do you know when you are deteriorating as you put it? 00:14:35.44\00:14:39.57 Well, I had...we were building a house and I stepped on a nail 00:14:39.61\00:14:44.05 which I had to go to my work place, the Emergency Department 00:14:44.08\00:14:48.22 and get a tetanus shot and they take your vital signs 00:14:48.25\00:14:51.82 and my blood pressure was starting to creep up. 00:14:51.85\00:14:54.96 My weight, I had gained probably 10 or 15 pounds over the last 00:14:54.99\00:14:59.26 several years, so I knew that my health was slowly 00:14:59.29\00:15:02.76 deteriorating but I wasn't focused on it, 00:15:02.80\00:15:04.93 I wasn't paying attention to it, I was just sort of trying to 00:15:04.97\00:15:08.57 keep doing what I am doing and hope for the best you know. 00:15:08.60\00:15:11.74 Once I started making changes I could see the difference 00:15:11.77\00:15:14.81 and feel the difference. 00:15:14.84\00:15:16.18 Awesome! So then Donjulie' s right on course. 00:15:16.21\00:15:21.15 She's going to be fine. I think she's doing well, 00:15:21.18\00:15:23.42 I think she's going to be fine I think by God's grace as she 00:15:23.45\00:15:27.09 continues this, she's going to have a testimony to share. 00:15:27.12\00:15:29.66 That will be great, we will have to get her back here. 00:15:29.69\00:15:31.69 Exactly. And do another interview. Exactly. 00:15:31.73\00:15:33.83 Doctor we've just about run out of time and I want to take the 00:15:33.86\00:15:38.33 time to thank you because I know you're a very busy man, 00:15:38.37\00:15:42.17 you've got a lot of stuff on your plate and thank you 00:15:42.20\00:15:47.18 for taking this time. 00:15:47.21\00:15:48.54 Thanks Ron, thank you for the invitation. 00:15:48.58\00:15:49.91 God bless. God bless you too. 00:15:49.94\00:15:51.48 Friends don't go away because Pastor Snead is up next. 00:15:51.51\00:15:54.65 Help me welcome Pr. Damon Snead. Good to see you brother. 00:15:57.99\00:16:02.39 Hey, you too friend. 00:16:02.42\00:16:03.76 I guess that we're going to talk about a young lady 00:16:03.79\00:16:07.66 I've grown rather fond of I should say and Donjulie is an 00:16:07.70\00:16:13.00 interesting person that comes from somewhere down in the 00:16:13.03\00:16:19.57 islands. Bahamas. Bahamas. 00:16:19.61\00:16:23.11 That's been in California for awhile and stayed...she moves 00:16:23.14\00:16:29.25 around a little bit here and there and she's on her way to 00:16:29.28\00:16:31.52 Florida. Um hum. But my wife and I picked her up from 00:16:31.55\00:16:36.49 when she rented a car recently and we had conversation while 00:16:36.52\00:16:42.60 before we dropped her off and after we dropped her off 00:16:42.63\00:16:45.80 my wife said to me, wow! she's stepping out on faith. 00:16:45.83\00:16:50.91 I want you to talk to us about that, the faith that this woman 00:16:50.94\00:16:57.95 is exhibiting by pulling up stakes and moving out. 00:16:57.98\00:17:03.12 Well, yeah, the Bible says without faith, it's impossible 00:17:03.15\00:17:08.22 to please God. By faith Abraham led out to a place he didn't 00:17:08.26\00:17:12.26 know where he was going. 00:17:12.29\00:17:13.63 It's like the central component to the gospel. 00:17:13.66\00:17:15.83 By faith we receive His righteousness, 00:17:15.86\00:17:19.97 by faith we believe in the power of the Holy Spirit, 00:17:20.00\00:17:23.24 by faith we believe in healing the light in the mind, 00:17:23.27\00:17:25.41 quicken the conscience and help us. 00:17:25.44\00:17:27.84 For someone coming to this health program, 00:17:27.88\00:17:30.65 it is a faith thing. Now we have to engage faith in the fact 00:17:30.68\00:17:35.08 that we have to actively participate in what the 00:17:35.12\00:17:38.72 Holy Spirit is leading us to do but it is by faith that 00:17:38.75\00:17:41.39 we trust in God's power to help us and her just turning 40, 00:17:41.42\00:17:47.73 she's that generation that's a lost faith. 00:17:47.76\00:17:51.53 In the Adventist Church and in all churches, that age group 00:17:51.57\00:17:55.97 between the late teens, the 20's through 40's, 00:17:56.00\00:17:59.87 they've completely abdicated church and here's a lady that's 00:17:59.91\00:18:05.65 come and is teaching us that it is not over with. 00:18:05.68\00:18:08.68 There are people of her age group that do have faith, 00:18:08.72\00:18:11.49 that do believe that God's got answers. 00:18:11.52\00:18:12.95 Yeah. And she's trusting that God is going to pave the way 00:18:12.99\00:18:16.39 and she's also got other issues that's got to happen or 00:18:16.42\00:18:20.30 she's really going to be in trouble. 00:18:20.33\00:18:22.16 Being from Nassau, she's got to have her Green Card and 00:18:22.20\00:18:25.63 work visas and the right j... I was like whew! 00:18:25.67\00:18:28.80 Ohh man, you really are stepping into the waters you know 00:18:28.84\00:18:32.27 by faith. Yeah. So it's... but it's what you need 00:18:32.67\00:18:37.81 to make this program work as well, not just in her 00:18:37.85\00:18:40.88 personal life but she needs faith here to get past some of 00:18:40.92\00:18:44.85 her health issues that she is already starting to experience. 00:18:44.89\00:18:46.99 Yeah. Well I think she is going to be fine, actually. 00:18:47.02\00:18:50.23 I've grown fond of her for a few reasons 00:18:50.26\00:18:54.30 because when she was coming up here her car overheated 00:18:54.33\00:18:57.40 and wouldn't climb the hill, she thought the transmission 00:18:57.43\00:19:01.20 was going out and so I got my mechanic to check her car out... 00:19:01.24\00:19:06.68 It needed some work, thermostat's and some new plugs 00:19:06.71\00:19:11.61 and maybe a tranny flush because she didn't want that to happen 00:19:11.65\00:19:16.25 crossing the desert in Nevada or Arizona or whatever 00:19:16.28\00:19:22.22 so we... in fact he's completed the car work today and is 00:19:22.26\00:19:29.20 going to deliver the car to her so... 00:19:29.23\00:19:31.90 Yeah, she had mentioned that, I'm glad...and I was also glad.. 00:19:31.93\00:19:36.30 You can always ask them what is the spiritual take away? 00:19:36.54\00:19:39.37 The health take away...what's your spiritual take away? 00:19:39.41\00:19:41.91 Hers was abiding in Christ, do the lecture Abiding in Christ, 00:19:41.94\00:19:46.88 Steps to Christ chapters 9, 10, and 11. 00:19:46.92\00:19:49.08 She told me that she realized that, especially in her 00:19:49.12\00:19:52.75 generation that's so attached to electronics in this 00:19:52.79\00:19:55.76 digital world that this program is going to work for her, 00:19:55.79\00:20:00.20 she needs to have a continual relationship with Christ 00:20:00.23\00:20:05.43 through Bible study through prayer if this is going to work 00:20:05.47\00:20:08.90 long term for her. She needs to stay rooted in the scriptures 00:20:08.94\00:20:13.14 and then scriptures birth to us things to pray about 00:20:13.17\00:20:16.44 ideas and that is how you will stay connected to the advances 00:20:16.48\00:20:21.68 that you've made in health is by being rooted in the gospel. 00:20:21.72\00:20:25.29 It was refreshing to hear her say that. Yeah. 00:20:25.32\00:20:28.49 A 40 year old that yeah, I must have time with God and 00:20:28.52\00:20:32.49 time in prayer. Well she's a pretty bright girl. 00:20:32.53\00:20:35.20 Yes she is, she surely is. Yeah she's sharp. 00:20:35.23\00:20:37.37 She's got a lot of talents. Um hum, those chapters are next 00:20:37.40\00:20:43.00 what we're going to be studying together. 00:20:43.04\00:20:45.14 That's right, were going to head right into that. 00:20:45.17\00:20:47.78 That's right. Working the life, privilege of prayer... 00:20:47.81\00:20:50.71 Amen. Amen. We still on for Friday right? 00:20:50.75\00:20:54.52 That's right. Alright, good. 00:20:54.55\00:20:56.25 Well we're out of time talking about our own personal... 00:20:56.28\00:20:59.75 Thank you so much though Damon. Alrighty. 00:20:59.79\00:21:02.26 God bless you brother. 00:21:02.29\00:21:03.63 Friends don't go away, we have a message for you following this. 00:21:03.66\00:21:07.53 When we look at the health status of Americans today, 00:21:09.73\00:21:12.17 it's alarming to see that 60% are either overweight or obese. 00:21:12.20\00:21:16.67 In addition diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, Cancer 00:21:21.81\00:21:25.48 and Heart Disorders are the leading cause of so many 00:21:25.51\00:21:28.28 complications and deaths every year. 00:21:28.32\00:21:30.62 Could it have something to do with what we eat? 00:21:30.65\00:21:36.96 After all, every 1 in 4 Americans visits a 00:21:36.99\00:21:40.73 Fast Food Restaurant daily and with such easy access to 00:21:40.76\00:21:44.63 Quick Fix Foods, we tend to forget the poor health value 00:21:44.67\00:21:47.74 those foods actually offer. 00:21:47.77\00:21:49.70 Maybe it's the sedentary life- style and lack of exercise 00:21:49.74\00:21:53.84 that we've become so accustomed to as a media dependent world... 00:21:53.88\00:21:57.11 Whatever the cause of these diseases, a solution has 00:21:57.15\00:22:02.02 arrived. The Newstart Lifestyle Center offers an enriching 00:22:04.35\00:22:07.72 program where patients can get a healing of mind, body and soul 00:22:07.76\00:22:11.03 located in the outskirts of Sacramento, the Newstart Center 00:22:11.06\00:22:15.30 is situated on the beautiful campus of 00:22:15.33\00:22:17.50 Weimar Center of Health and Education with scenic walking 00:22:17.53\00:22:21.07 and hiking trails all around. 00:22:21.10\00:22:22.90 With a whole plant foods eaten whole motto, the Newstart Center 00:22:22.94\00:22:28.08 promotes a healthy plant based diet with an emphasis on 00:22:28.11\00:22:31.48 natural foods. 00:22:31.51\00:22:32.85 The Newstart staff are made up of California Board Certified 00:22:32.88\00:22:36.28 nurses, doctors, dieticians and therapists who work together 00:22:36.32\00:22:41.09 to assist each patient personally. 00:22:41.12\00:22:43.19 The staff are dedicated to each patient's success in the program 00:22:43.22\00:22:47.10 and are always there to guide, advise and encourage. 00:22:47.13\00:22:50.67 In addition to a healthy life- style, Newstart also promotes 00:22:50.70\00:22:54.70 a healthy exercise routine. 00:22:54.74\00:22:56.34 You're both sequence, that's good. Alright. 00:22:56.37\00:22:59.07 As part of the balance program, there is much opportunity 00:22:59.11\00:23:02.08 to get in a fair share of physical activity from 00:23:02.11\00:23:05.05 utilizing our Fitness Center to taking a stroll around the 00:23:05.11\00:23:08.48 peaceful grounds of Weimar. 00:23:08.55\00:23:10.62 It's amazing what a New Start can do for you. 00:23:10.65\00:23:13.39 No audio! 00:23:13.42\00:23:20.10 This is kind of an exciting study that we are about 00:23:20.13\00:23:22.63 ready to discuss because this is talking about causes of 00:23:22.66\00:23:26.97 depression that are not thought to be reversible. 00:23:27.00\00:23:30.17 You know Weimar does treat depression and we have had 00:23:30.21\00:23:36.04 a great track record of success in those with the severest forms 00:23:36.08\00:23:40.35 of depression and anxiety here. 00:23:40.38\00:23:42.25 But we are reversing the underlying causes, 00:23:42.28\00:23:45.42 lack of exercise can be one of the causes, and poor nutrition.. 00:23:45.45\00:23:50.03 Of course the good news is we can change our exercise patterns 00:23:50.06\00:23:53.19 and we can change what we are eating. 00:23:53.26\00:23:55.03 But these are causes that are a little more austere... 00:23:55.06\00:23:59.03 What were we studying here? 00:23:59.07\00:24:01.84 We are studying here what happens to those people that 00:24:01.87\00:24:06.01 have poor blood flow to the brain, secondary to stroke or 00:24:06.04\00:24:12.81 because of heart failure or some other condition that doesn't 00:24:12.85\00:24:15.88 send enough blood flow to the brain. 00:24:15.92\00:24:17.52 We're studying what happens to those people 00:24:17.55\00:24:19.89 regarding mental health. 00:24:19.92\00:24:21.29 Okay. Well obviously if our circulation to our brain 00:24:21.32\00:24:24.99 is impaired, you would think it might affect the mental health. 00:24:25.03\00:24:27.56 Did you find a corelation there? 00:24:27.60\00:24:30.33 I found a very clear co- relationship, those people 00:24:30.37\00:24:34.37 that have that reduced blood flow to the brain 00:24:34.40\00:24:36.54 actually on average had moderate depression... 00:24:36.57\00:24:40.81 This is in a community setting program that was organized... 00:24:40.84\00:24:45.21 So the average person with a history of stroke or 00:24:45.25\00:24:48.42 heart failure by definition almost, they're going to have 00:24:48.45\00:24:51.65 some depression. So they are moderate, major depression 00:24:51.69\00:24:55.52 that's a significant mental illness. 00:24:55.56\00:24:58.36 So how many patients were involved in this? 00:24:58.39\00:25:02.76 This was a big sample 5,621 participants from all over 00:25:02.80\00:25:08.07 the world. Okay. And those with stroke and 00:25:08.10\00:25:11.61 heart attack that were a smaller percentage, is that right? 00:25:11.64\00:25:15.98 That's right, that was about 4% of all that population 00:25:16.01\00:25:19.85 that had this problem. 00:25:19.88\00:25:21.88 As the underlying cause... one of the underlying causes... 00:25:21.92\00:25:24.85 That's right. There is a researcher by the name of 00:25:24.89\00:25:26.62 Dravets, he tried to answer the question of the chicken 00:25:26.65\00:25:29.89 and the egg. Does the depression cause, reduce blood flow to the 00:25:29.92\00:25:33.33 brain or does it reduce blood flow to the brain cause 00:25:33.36\00:25:36.10 depression. He proposes that things that reduce blood flow 00:25:36.13\00:25:39.57 to the brain will trigger a depression. 00:25:39.60\00:25:41.77 Yes, so that is what comes first. Reduced blood flow 00:25:41.80\00:25:44.74 and then the depression. So these people with moderate 00:25:44.77\00:25:50.05 depression went to an eight week educational program, 00:25:50.08\00:25:55.52 tell us a little bit about that. 00:25:55.55\00:25:57.79 We applied the principles of Newstart plus some cognitive 00:25:57.82\00:26:01.96 behavioral therapy principles and as they were doing the 00:26:01.99\00:26:05.16 exercise, switching to the plant based diet, 00:26:05.19\00:26:07.26 and all of these healthy behaviors, we took a measurement 00:26:07.30\00:26:10.27 again after the eight weeks. What did we find out? 00:26:10.30\00:26:14.04 We found out that their improvement was remarkable. 00:26:14.07\00:26:17.27 Ninety percent of those participants were able to 00:26:17.31\00:26:20.91 improve dramatically their mental health to the point 00:26:20.94\00:26:23.85 that they finished with none or just mild depression. 00:26:23.88\00:26:27.32 That's amazing because this goes against what the medical 00:26:27.35\00:26:32.79 thought is because you can't reverse a stroke. 00:26:32.82\00:26:36.59 A stroke is a dead portion of the brain, you can't bring 00:26:36.62\00:26:39.26 that back and when you have heart failure due to advanced 00:26:39.29\00:26:42.86 coronary artery disease and the heart is not able to pump... 00:26:42.90\00:26:45.57 This isn't something you can put a magic wand on 00:26:45.60\00:26:48.60 or a medicine and get it to pump well. 00:26:48.64\00:26:50.44 So these are thought to be irreversible causes of 00:26:50.47\00:26:54.58 depression and we actually found out the opposite... 00:26:54.61\00:26:58.18 Ninety percent, I mean that's better than you get in people 00:26:58.21\00:27:01.18 without heart disease and stroke by putting them on a medicine. 00:27:01.22\00:27:05.35 Some of the most potent medicines for anti-depression 00:27:05.39\00:27:09.39 won't produce anywhere close to a 90 % improvement rate. 00:27:09.42\00:27:13.70 And because of the importance of this study, it actually 00:27:13.76\00:27:18.03 came out in the Journal of Neurology which happens to be 00:27:18.07\00:27:20.84 the top journal on this field. Okay. So Neurology is the top 00:27:20.87\00:27:26.04 of all of the neurology journals and it was published in 00:27:26.07\00:27:29.78 The Journal of Neurology as well should it be. This is a ground 00:27:29.81\00:27:32.91 breaking, this is ground breaking research. 00:27:32.95\00:27:35.92 Not only were you and myself involved in this research 00:27:35.95\00:27:39.69 but one of the health science majors at Weimar as well. 00:27:39.72\00:27:44.36 That by the end of her program, she was able to finish with six 00:27:44.39\00:27:49.23 of these studies under her belt. 00:27:49.26\00:27:52.13 Six studies, wow, many people don't even publish one 00:27:52.17\00:27:56.50 peer review study their entire career and this student 00:27:56.54\00:28:00.58 out of Weimar published six. So pay attention to what 00:28:00.64\00:28:04.68 comes out of Weimar Institute and thanks for joining us today 00:28:04.71\00:28:08.18 for Weimar Institute Research. 00:28:08.22\00:28:10.39
