¤ ¤ 00:00:01.36\00:01:10.40 Hi Friends and welcome to another edition of 00:01:13.17\00:01:15.64 NEWSTART Now. I'm your host Ron Giannoni. In our studio with 00:01:15.67\00:01:19.74 me today is Herman Flores all the way from Los Angeles area. 00:01:19.77\00:01:25.68 So let's take a look at when he first arrived. 00:01:25.71\00:01:30.19 Well I researched about this place. I wanted it to be 00:01:30.22\00:01:34.72 over 10 years ago. But time and budget now thank God he permits 00:01:34.76\00:01:40.10 me to be 00:01:40.13\00:01:41.46 here. I have to drop 75 pounds. My sugar level is really high 00:01:41.50\00:01:44.90 my blood pressure is high so this place sounds like a place 00:01:44.93\00:01:51.31 of hope. So we'll see what happens in the next 21 days. 00:01:51.34\00:01:55.01 Oh I'd like to see a transformation, make what I 00:01:55.04\00:01:58.55 I think is possible, possible by the grace of the Lord. 00:01:58.58\00:02:02.28 I want to change my lifestyle make it into a proper, the right 00:02:02.32\00:02:06.15 lifestyle. Learning to adopt the NEWSTART program 00:02:06.19\00:02:09.76 into my system and share it with the world. 00:02:09.79\00:02:14.00 Welcome back friends. How are you brother Herman? 00:02:16.97\00:02:19.43 Oh thank God, thank you brother I'm fine. Thank you. 00:02:19.47\00:02:22.07 So good to see you. 00:02:22.10\00:02:23.44 Thank you. 00:02:23.47\00:02:24.81 And hear what you have to say and I want to share these things 00:02:24.84\00:02:28.81 with our viewers. So we just took a look at when you first 00:02:28.84\00:02:33.21 arrived. What's changed now? You were taking eight different 00:02:33.25\00:02:37.45 medications. That's right. Right Now you're still taking all 00:02:37.49\00:02:41.06 eight, right? 00:02:41.09\00:02:42.42 No more. 00:02:42.46\00:02:43.79 Wait a minute, you're not taking any of the eight? 00:02:43.83\00:02:45.16 No a day after they told us you can we can disregard the 00:02:45.19\00:02:49.36 medications first. 00:02:49.40\00:02:51.37 Friends, this wasn't rehearsed. No, I already knew that but I 00:02:51.40\00:02:56.44 was just kind of joking with you. So you're off all eight? 00:02:56.47\00:03:00.18 That's right. 00:03:00.21\00:03:02.31 And why, how is that possible? I mean everybody knows you gotta 00:03:02.34\00:03:07.52 stay. Once you're diabetic, always diabetic and you have to 00:03:07.55\00:03:11.05 have high blood pressure and you have to have kidney problems 00:03:11.09\00:03:14.72 Why you, what's so different? 00:03:14.76\00:03:17.89 I don't know. I don't know. 00:03:17.93\00:03:21.66 That's a good answer. 00:03:21.70\00:03:23.03 Yeah I don't know. So we just have to trust and I did and 00:03:23.06\00:03:28.40 they monitor your blood pressure and your sugar every day several 00:03:28.44\00:03:35.48 times a day and without the pills it's amazing, surprising 00:03:35.51\00:03:41.88 that my readings are much lower as the day goes by. 00:03:41.92\00:03:47.12 And you don't know why? 00:03:47.16\00:03:50.73 Well there's quite a few changes we did here. 00:03:50.76\00:03:53.96 Well you took eight pills and replaced them with eight basic 00:03:54.00\00:03:57.20 laws. 00:03:57.23\00:03:58.60 That's what we learned here at NEWSTART. That's the acronym. 00:03:58.63\00:04:03.81 And there's significant transformation and changes, 00:04:03.84\00:04:08.38 gradually but in how you feel and in the program we were 00:04:08.41\00:04:13.85 running. They just made you aware of quite a lot of things, 00:04:13.88\00:04:19.72 truths, you know, and it makes sense and wow! Yeah. 00:04:19.75\00:04:31.80 Wow!. We know that and I know why and you know why because 00:04:31.83\00:04:37.94 God brought you here to come to this place to get you off 00:04:37.97\00:04:42.64 eight medications and exchange them for basic principles and 00:04:42.68\00:04:48.22 you're doing them, you're seeing the results and I'm happy for 00:04:48.25\00:04:53.15 you Herman. 00:04:53.19\00:04:54.52 Well thank God and thank you. 00:04:54.56\00:04:55.89 Thank God, yes. Let me ask you what would you say in your 00:04:55.92\00:05:02.70 native tongue, look into that camera over here, and say some 00:05:02.73\00:05:08.50 words of encouragement. Take a minute and do that to you're 00:05:08.54\00:05:12.77 fellow countrymen. 00:05:12.81\00:05:15.58 In my native tongue? 00:05:15.61\00:05:16.95 In your native tongue. 00:05:16.98\00:05:18.31 Well my native tongue is a combination of English and 00:05:18.35\00:05:20.72 Tagalog. 00:05:20.75\00:05:22.08 Well do Tagalog. Yeah. 00:05:22.12\00:05:24.85 Well it goes like... and then take it by heart, pray about it 00:05:24.89\00:05:41.14 and then verify... Check me out and verify and know for yourself 00:05:41.17\00:05:49.34 now... and you'll see from your experiences and for the results 00:05:49.38\00:05:55.55 that transpire. So, yeah trust in him and ask him... and at 00:05:55.58\00:06:07.46 point, then we make a choice decision... and then experience 00:06:07.50\00:06:14.67 I couldn't have said it better myself. 00:06:19.37\00:06:22.94 Oh, thank you. 00:06:22.98\00:06:24.71 But of course in the process it's a program, it's like a day 00:06:24.75\00:06:30.65 to day thing. So the awareness that has been brought to us and 00:06:30.69\00:06:39.13 the light that was _. We also have our job as we 00:06:39.16\00:06:42.73 understand it, so it's not the quick fix. It's like you said 00:06:42.76\00:06:47.34 earlier, it's a lifetime process so if we see the results then 00:06:47.37\00:06:51.34 again it is up to us. And what's beautiful about the program is 00:06:51.37\00:06:56.91 they share that for us it's quite difficult but we have help 00:06:56.95\00:07:05.89 from our Father above and His Son who will give us the 00:07:05.92\00:07:09.12 strength and things that are impossible to us, you know, is 00:07:09.16\00:07:16.33 not so hard because he's there and he makes the impossible 00:07:16.36\00:07:19.70 possible because there's nothing that he cannot do if it is in 00:07:19.73\00:07:24.34 accordance with his will and it is his will to make us whole, 00:07:24.37\00:07:28.94 to make us commune with him until he comes and picks us up. 00:07:28.98\00:07:33.08 You know, so that's our job, to occupy till he comes and picks 00:07:33.11\00:07:37.02 us up. And we know, and I believe that it's the best way 00:07:37.05\00:07:43.93 to be the best that we can be. And he has prepared that path 00:07:43.96\00:07:47.43 for those who would see where adjustments need to be made and 00:07:47.46\00:07:53.64 what has to be done. But again, it's a day to day thing and I 00:07:53.67\00:07:57.14 think if we follow the light that's given to us and we see 00:07:57.17\00:08:02.58 the results and continue to push on to be able to occupy the time 00:08:02.61\00:08:10.39 he's blessed us with and bring a lot of people back home 00:08:10.42\00:08:16.06 with us to enjoy his kingdom forever. And to do it to the 00:08:16.09\00:08:21.76 best of our ability in good physical health. Because I think 00:08:21.80\00:08:25.77 it's right when our body is good, our mind can think better 00:08:25.80\00:08:31.24 and our spiritual link and relationship with him would just 00:08:31.27\00:08:34.81 flourish. And what others might see as a sacrifice we're doing 00:08:34.84\00:08:40.62 eventually I believe we'll find pleasure in it. So we can 00:08:40.65\00:08:46.29 experience heaven here on earth until we continue to experience 00:08:46.32\00:08:51.69 it for eternity and forever. 00:08:51.73\00:08:55.30 Amen, amen. You know what I like about you Herman? I only need to 00:08:55.33\00:08:59.87 ask you one question and I hear him give a nice answer and that 00:08:59.90\00:09:04.74 was so beautifully said. 00:09:04.77\00:09:06.11 Well thank you brother. 00:09:06.14\00:09:07.48 Thank you so much brother. I want to think you for taking 00:09:07.51\00:09:09.91 your time. I know it's valuable, you'll be going home tomorrow 00:09:09.94\00:09:12.98 and thank you for coming on the program with us. 00:09:13.01\00:09:16.82 Well thank you for having me. Thanks to be God and thank you 00:09:16.85\00:09:19.02 brother. 00:09:19.05\00:09:20.39 And thank you brother. 00:09:20.42\00:09:21.76 And thank you friends. Don't go away. Dr. Gallant is up next. 00:09:21.79\00:09:25.09 Every year in America there are over one million deaths because 00:09:29.80\00:09:33.13 type II diabetes and chronic obesity. This includes heart 00:09:33.17\00:09:36.44 attacks and strokes. That's six-and-a-half 747s crashing 00:09:36.47\00:09:40.48 every day. What's even more surprising is that the fix is 00:09:40.51\00:09:44.35 easy. It's your lifestyle. Wouldn't it be nice if you could 00:09:44.38\00:09:48.22 actually add quality years to your life rather than dying one 00:09:48.25\00:09:50.95 organ at a time? Obesity and diabetes are the causes of over 00:09:50.99\00:09:54.86 a million deaths per year. Most diseases are reversible because 00:09:54.89\00:09:59.56 most diseases are lifestyle diseases, especially type II 00:09:59.59\00:10:03.40 diabetes and chronic obesity. Seriously now, they can be 00:10:03.43\00:10:07.24 reversed and the quality of your life can be renewed. Call 00:10:07.27\00:10:11.74 NEWSTART today at 1-800-525-9192. 00:10:11.77\00:10:17.21 You will see dramatic changes in the first few days of our 00:10:17.25\00:10:20.15 program and you'll be on the road to a better, more robust 00:10:20.18\00:10:23.62 quality of life. The NEWSTART programs are simple 00:10:23.65\00:10:26.45 and effective. 00:10:26.49\00:10:28.82 Welcome back friends. Help me welcome Dr. Roger Gallant. 00:10:31.89\00:10:34.56 Ron it's good to be here with you. 00:10:34.60\00:10:36.06 It's good to be here with you and I'm looking forward to this 00:10:36.10\00:10:39.50 interview because, you know, to me it just seems... I think I 00:10:39.53\00:10:44.07 asked Herman one or two questions. That was it. He just 00:10:44.11\00:10:47.98 that was great, I didn't have to ask too much. Because 00:10:48.01\00:10:51.75 sometimes we get yes here. How was your session. Fine. 00:10:51.78\00:10:56.35 Did you enjoy it. Yes. And not Herman. 00:10:56.38\00:10:59.95 No. Herman talks for a living. He does? He does. He does 00:10:59.99\00:11:07.06 trade shows so he can talk and I like interacting with him. 00:11:07.10\00:11:14.90 I like talking with him. He's a fascinating person and he's got 00:11:14.94\00:11:18.41 a lot of experiences that are pretty neat and I like the way 00:11:18.44\00:11:22.38 he puts things together. He's a good guy. So yeah. 00:11:22.41\00:11:28.32 Well he seems as though he's going to be just fine. 00:11:28.35\00:11:30.65 I think he's going to do well also. You know he came here and 00:11:30.69\00:11:35.96 he was sick, pretty sick guy and he stopped some of his 00:11:35.99\00:11:41.53 medicines before he got here. And by the way to our audience 00:11:41.56\00:11:44.97 and people out there, we don't recommend doing that. We like to 00:11:45.00\00:11:49.04 adjust medicines under the supervision of a physician. 00:11:49.07\00:11:52.24 But he'd stopped his medicines and he was having some symptoms. 00:11:52.27\00:11:56.75 He would have some chest pressure and things like that 00:11:56.78\00:11:59.25 and he has high blood sugars and he was having a lot of things. 00:11:59.28\00:12:03.95 Let me interrupt please. 00:12:03.99\00:12:05.99 Go ahead. 00:12:06.02\00:12:07.36 Why would we be under the supervision of a physician when 00:12:07.39\00:12:13.29 we thing we should stop something?. Isn't it OK just to 00:12:13.33\00:12:16.53 stop medication? 00:12:16.56\00:12:17.90 Well, some medicines you need to taper off of and some medicines 00:12:17.93\00:12:22.97 if you stop them abruptly or inappropriately it can make you 00:12:23.00\00:12:27.04 actually have worse health. And so that's why it's good to have 00:12:27.08\00:12:31.18 medical supervision to adjust medications. And we appreciate 00:12:31.21\00:12:36.82 people wanting to be off of medicine. Medicines have side 00:12:36.85\00:12:39.99 effects and they are not always the best thing for your body, 00:12:40.02\00:12:43.16 but there is a place for medicine and so we want to make 00:12:43.19\00:12:48.30 sure that people are healthy whether they're on or off 00:12:48.33\00:12:50.53 their medicines and having the oversight of a supervising 00:12:50.57\00:12:54.97 physician is a good way to make sure of that. So. 00:12:55.00\00:12:57.84 Well put. 00:12:57.87\00:12:59.21 Praise the Lord, praise the Lord. But Herman, you know, 00:12:59.24\00:13:04.71 came in sick and we started treating him. We put him on a 00:13:04.75\00:13:08.72 treatment regimen and he started to get better. He couldn't walk 00:13:08.75\00:13:12.95 very far initially and slowly he had to build that up over time 00:13:12.99\00:13:17.33 and gradually get better. But praise the Lord now he's doing 00:13:17.36\00:13:22.66 better, he has more strength, more stamina. You know, Weimar 00:13:22.70\00:13:26.47 has hills and he can walk up the hills without having to stop 00:13:26.50\00:13:29.94 as much. So we praise the Lord that he's getting better. But he 00:13:29.97\00:13:34.54 also has homework to do. When he goes home he still has work 00:13:34.58\00:13:39.65 to do. So. 00:13:39.68\00:13:42.05 Yeah, I know. Sounds familiar. 00:13:42.08\00:13:43.59 Yeah, that's right, that's right. 00:13:43.62\00:13:45.69 We all have our homework. 00:13:45.72\00:13:47.06 We all have our homework to do, that's right. 00:13:47.09\00:13:49.39 How do you find... You're trim and you're healthy. How do you 00:13:49.42\00:13:53.53 find time. Because I know you're busy. You've got two or three 00:13:53.56\00:13:57.97 jobs, working here and there, when do you exercise? 00:13:58.00\00:14:01.14 So what I found was the exercise was something that I didn't 00:14:01.17\00:14:05.57 always have time for and I would say I would get to it later. 00:14:05.61\00:14:10.65 At the end of the day nobody wants to exercise at the end 00:14:10.68\00:14:14.55 of the day. Not me. You're tired and the day's gone. So I found 00:14:14.58\00:14:17.85 out that I had to wake up earlier in order to be able to 00:14:17.89\00:14:21.42 exercise. So I would go to bed earlier, because I'm going to 00:14:21.46\00:14:25.46 wake up earlier. You still want to try to get your seven or 00:14:25.49\00:14:28.13 eight hours of sleep and I would wake up early and when 00:14:28.16\00:14:31.30 I would wake up earlier then I would have time to exercise. 00:14:31.33\00:14:36.20 So you've got to put it as an item on your calender, as an 00:14:36.24\00:14:41.58 item on your agenda and make it happen. 00:14:41.61\00:14:43.88 Well you know you just spoke my words because if I'm not up at 00:14:43.91\00:14:50.12 5:00, 5:30 in the morning and out walking by 6:15 I'm not 00:14:50.15\00:14:55.59 going to get me walk in because at the end of the day, although 00:14:55.62\00:14:59.29 I can hear you whispering in my ear get up and walk, you know 00:14:59.33\00:15:04.40 I do because I have a treadmill especially hot days, but early 00:15:04.43\00:15:10.14 in the morning is best, before I eat. 00:15:10.17\00:15:12.01 Yes, that's crucial. 00:15:12.04\00:15:13.68 If I eat, yeah I can stroll a little bit but I'm not going to 00:15:13.71\00:15:18.28 do any power walking. 00:15:18.31\00:15:19.65 And you don't want to walk hard after you eat. Yeah. We teach 00:15:19.68\00:15:23.45 our guests that there is an exercise walk and there is a 00:15:23.49\00:15:26.89 digestive walk. Yes. After a meal a digestive walk should be 00:15:26.92\00:15:31.56 short, maybe 10 or 15 minutes, more like a stroll. An exercise 00:15:31.59\00:15:36.10 walk can be a little more intense and when you are 00:15:36.13\00:15:40.04 exercising blood is shunted to your large muscle groups like 00:15:40.07\00:15:43.97 your legs. So if you're trying to digest food, that blood goes 00:15:44.01\00:15:48.61 away from the digestive organs to your large muscle groups and 00:15:48.64\00:15:52.65 it impacts and impedes your digestion. So the best time to 00:15:52.68\00:15:58.42 exercise is on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Plus 00:15:58.45\00:16:02.09 first thing in the morning the air is cleaner. There's less 00:16:02.12\00:16:04.99 industry through the night and less pollution. So it's a better 00:16:05.03\00:16:09.06 time to go out and get some fresh air and if you get out 00:16:09.10\00:16:12.63 when the sun is up or just come up a little while the light 00:16:12.67\00:16:16.34 actually helps to change your body, change from melatonin 00:16:16.37\00:16:21.71 which is our sleep hormone essentially, to serotonin which 00:16:21.74\00:16:26.51 is our daylight, activity, awake hormone and it helps to make 00:16:26.55\00:16:30.25 our brains feel better and so we want to get that serotonin and 00:16:30.29\00:16:34.19 one of the best ways to get it is to get out in the early 00:16:34.22\00:16:36.26 morning light. You don't have to look at the sun or anything like 00:16:36.29\00:16:38.63 that but just be out in the light and it actually increases 00:16:38.66\00:16:41.46 your serotonin. 00:16:41.50\00:16:42.83 Boy that was great. I'd like you to just keep going on that 00:16:42.86\00:16:46.77 subject, but we're running out of time. Thank you Doctor. 00:16:46.80\00:16:50.21 Good to see you Ron, God bless. 00:16:50.24\00:16:51.57 Good to see you, God bless you. Good to see you friends but 00:16:51.61\00:16:54.98 don't go away because Pastor Snead is up next. 00:16:55.01\00:16:59.08 Help me welcome Pastor Snead. You know who we're talking about 00:17:01.95\00:17:06.39 Herman. Herman, Herman. You know he's an amazing guy 00:17:06.42\00:17:11.86 because I said this to the doctor when he was here. 00:17:11.89\00:17:15.76 I only had to ask a couple of questions but he went on and on. 00:17:15.80\00:17:21.77 This guy's a talker. And you now that's good because men like 00:17:21.80\00:17:28.14 him, people like him, men and women, who we need into the 00:17:28.18\00:17:32.75 field preaching the word, talking about Christ and, but 00:17:32.78\00:17:38.75 what do you think? 00:17:39.35\00:17:40.69 Well with Herman, he's extremely analytical and he's very, you 00:17:40.72\00:17:44.59 know, kind of slow thinking his processes out. And you know the 00:17:44.63\00:17:48.63 very first day I'm here I tell him the first lecture that it's 00:17:48.66\00:17:53.20 very important that we get the spiritual principles down 00:17:53.23\00:17:55.40 because that's going to help you overcome in the health or the 00:17:55.44\00:17:58.97 emotional side. You're going to need these gospel principles. 00:17:59.01\00:18:03.01 And so he had this look on his face, I don't know if he 00:18:03.04\00:18:06.72 remembers it or not, but he seemed like he was thinking that 00:18:06.75\00:18:09.22 through, is that true or not? Well 18 days passed and it was 00:18:09.25\00:18:14.66 my last counseling session with him, and he gets that. He tells 00:18:14.69\00:18:18.43 be that for him the big thing is follow-through. You've got to 00:18:18.46\00:18:24.53 follow through. You have a responsibility before God to 00:18:24.57\00:18:29.87 learn and then to do. You know, it's not just going to by 00:18:29.90\00:18:34.41 osmosis just creep into your soul. You got to practice it. 00:18:34.44\00:18:37.25 And then he got the spiritual. Then he understood the 00:18:37.28\00:18:39.91 spiritual tie, which was this is what I've been trying to say. 00:18:39.95\00:18:42.25 The power of God to help us through the gospel is how we're 00:18:42.28\00:18:47.12 going to do the follow-through. 00:18:47.16\00:18:49.22 Hmm. Interesting. Well I think he's an amazing guy. He's got 00:18:49.26\00:18:54.16 a lot to say. He's pretty bright but Doctor said he's also a 00:18:54.20\00:18:58.47 speaker. That's how he makes his living through speaking. 00:18:58.50\00:19:01.80 Now I did not know that. 00:19:01.84\00:19:03.47 I didn't either until Dr. Gallant said it. 00:19:03.51\00:19:07.31 That would make sense. Ha, ha. 00:19:07.34\00:19:09.04 Yeah, it would wouldn't it. Yeah. 00:19:09.08\00:19:10.41 So I think he's going to be fine. I think he's one of those 00:19:10.45\00:19:16.25 that could leave here and really promote the NEWSTART 00:19:16.28\00:19:21.49 program as he should, as most people should because there 00:19:21.52\00:19:25.63 are so many people, so many families members, not just one 00:19:25.66\00:19:30.47 or two but most families, especially from the south that 00:19:30.50\00:19:34.90 need to come here. 00:19:34.94\00:19:36.27 Oh yeah. And he's going to be a good spokesman because he's 00:19:36.30\00:19:39.17 done enough research to know... He's not Seventh-day Advenetist, 00:19:39.21\00:19:43.81 he's not affiliated with the church but he knows our history 00:19:43.85\00:19:46.21 on the health message. I mean he's got a 10-year history going 00:19:46.25\00:19:50.19 back. He got a hold of the book Ministry of Healing and he read 00:19:50.22\00:19:54.46 his principles back then and said I'm going to be a 00:19:54.49\00:19:56.56 vegetarian. Well he learned that there's much more than health 00:19:56.59\00:20:01.83 than being a vegetarian. Today he was telling me he sees the 00:20:01.86\00:20:05.20 beauty of what NEWSTART does is bringing all these principles 00:20:05.23\00:20:10.71 together but not leaving off the spiritual component like so many 00:20:10.74\00:20:14.18 other people do. You know. 00:20:14.21\00:20:16.08 It's crucial that we include God 00:20:16.11\00:20:18.58 Oh you have to. 00:20:18.61\00:20:19.98 How could you not? 00:20:20.02\00:20:22.12 Yeah, it's part of what makes us whole and he grasped that idea, 00:20:22.15\00:20:25.79 he got that idea and he's very impressed with the Adventist 00:20:25.82\00:20:30.19 view of spiritual and health and how they work together and he's 00:20:30.23\00:20:33.80 going to take this and he is going to, he already told me he 00:20:33.83\00:20:37.17 was going to talk to others and share this with others because 00:20:37.20\00:20:39.73 if you love others and you care about other people how in the 00:20:39.77\00:20:43.64 world can you not share with them, not just the gospel for 00:20:43.67\00:20:47.34 eternal purposes, but the gospel that will help you today and not 00:20:47.38\00:20:51.55 just to get along in life with other people and yourself and 00:20:51.58\00:20:54.48 God but with your health. I mean it's a precious thing when we 00:20:54.52\00:20:58.35 have such a great message. And here's a guy that's going to 00:20:58.39\00:21:03.32 definitely tell other people about it. 00:21:03.36\00:21:04.89 No doubt in my mind I think he's going to do good with this. 00:21:04.93\00:21:09.13 I just hope he doesn't overkill. 00:21:09.16\00:21:10.73 No, I think you're right. I think Herman is going to 00:21:10.77\00:21:14.60 do well and if he comes back it'll be just to get more of it. 00:21:14.64\00:21:20.41 He told me that there's just so much to go back and review and 00:21:20.44\00:21:24.38 to learn and he really wants to follow through. 00:21:24.41\00:21:29.68 Well I've been here almost 13 years now and I'm still learning 00:21:29.72\00:21:33.92 and there is a lot to learn, a lot to remember, a lot that we 00:21:33.96\00:21:39.73 can do for our Christian brothers or not Christian 00:21:39.76\00:21:43.33 brothers and sisters, just people who are sick in the world 00:21:43.37\00:21:47.00 that need the health message. 00:21:47.04\00:21:49.30 Yeah, it's the Adventist's gift to the world. We love you, and 00:21:49.34\00:21:54.94 you're brothers and sisters. We want to see you live longer and 00:21:54.98\00:21:57.75 have a good lives. We got some simple remedies, some simple 00:21:57.78\00:22:02.25 things and men like Herman appreciate that about the 00:22:02.28\00:22:04.99 Adventist church. 00:22:05.02\00:22:07.32 Amen. We're about out of time brother. Thank you again for 00:22:07.36\00:22:10.73 taking your time and thank you friends, but don't go away. 00:22:10.76\00:22:14.20 There's an important message following this. 00:22:14.23\00:22:16.67 ¤ ¤ 00:22:16.70\00:22:50.60 Weimar Institute not only treats patients with 00:22:52.50\00:22:57.07 significant chronic diseases 00:22:57.11\00:22:59.74 but also does research on thousands of 00:22:59.77\00:23:05.45 individuals and this research is getting published in peer review 00:23:05.48\00:23:09.05 scientific publications. And many people don't realize the 00:23:09.08\00:23:13.02 NEWSTART program is also the home of Weimar College. Weimar 00:23:13.05\00:23:19.93 College is a premedical institution, nursing program, 00:23:19.96\00:23:23.87 business program, theology, education, also music, 00:23:23.90\00:23:27.90 psychology is taught here and this is a higher education 00:23:27.94\00:23:32.51 program that actually is above many bachelors programs because 00:23:32.54\00:23:39.31 of the type of research that is done and published by our 00:23:39.35\00:23:43.32 students and professors here. One of our professors today who 00:23:43.35\00:23:47.36 actually heads our research department at Weimar College 00:23:47.39\00:23:51.39 is Dr. Eddie Ramirez. Dr. Eddie glad to have you here today. 00:23:51.43\00:23:55.33 Thank you for the invitation. 00:23:55.36\00:23:56.70 All right. Well this was a study that was done by who? Now who 00:23:56.73\00:24:01.00 involved in research? 00:24:01.04\00:24:02.40 Students were involved in this study. There were actually two 00:24:02.44\00:24:06.27 students in this study. This was published in the Journal of 00:24:06.31\00:24:09.04 Biological Psychiatry. We're studying a little bit about 00:24:09.08\00:24:13.15 emotional intelligence. 00:24:13.18\00:24:14.92 OK. Well emotional intelligence is your ability to manage your 00:24:14.95\00:24:20.46 emotions, to understand your emotions and the emotions of 00:24:20.49\00:24:24.06 others and respond to those emotions in a healthy way. 00:24:24.09\00:24:27.60 And we have found out, Dr. Ramirez, that emotional 00:24:27.63\00:24:31.50 intelligence has more to do with your future success and 00:24:31.53\00:24:34.57 happiness than other measurements. It's even 00:24:34.60\00:24:37.41 more important than your I.Q. And, of course, these were 00:24:37.44\00:24:41.34 people coming because of depression. They had significant 00:24:41.38\00:24:44.95 depression and anxiety and how many people were involved 00:24:44.98\00:24:47.78 in this study? 00:24:47.82\00:24:49.15 This was a big sample, 5621 people in this sample. 00:24:49.18\00:24:53.62 Wow! Was this all from North America or were there other 00:24:53.66\00:24:57.16 countries involved? 00:24:57.19\00:24:58.53 This was worldwide. There were four continents represented in 00:24:58.56\00:25:02.90 this sample. 00:25:02.93\00:25:04.27 OK. So at the beginning of the data analysis, they were coming 00:25:04.30\00:25:09.47 to a program. This was an eight- week program so this wasn't 00:25:09.50\00:25:13.88 actually done at Weimar Institute but it was done in 00:25:13.91\00:25:17.18 those countries, a lot of different satellite sites. May 00:25:17.21\00:25:20.72 have been churches or health centers or mental health clinics 00:25:20.75\00:25:25.12 where this program would have been run. So they were coming 00:25:25.15\00:25:29.29 because of their need in depression and anxiety. It was 00:25:29.32\00:25:32.99 an educational program and this educational program included 00:25:33.03\00:25:36.80 what, what types of things might they have been educated about. 00:25:36.83\00:25:39.27 So basically the NEWSTART principles plus a mental 00:25:39.30\00:25:45.04 education focus on the principles of cognitive 00:25:45.07\00:25:49.58 behavioral therapy. 00:25:49.61\00:25:50.95 OK. So you have NEWSTART plus cognitive behavioral therapy 00:25:50.98\00:25:55.02 which gets into your thoughts and emotional intelligence is 00:25:55.05\00:25:57.99 tied to our thoughts because it's actually our thoughts that 00:25:58.02\00:26:00.86 cause our emotions and behaviors. And that's actually 00:26:00.89\00:26:03.66 good news, because we can change our thoughts into what's more 00:26:03.69\00:26:07.36 rational and true and then our emotions and behavior can also 00:26:07.40\00:26:11.17 improve. So as a result of this, I mean, was this an intense 00:26:11.20\00:26:15.60 program where they were there all day for eight weeks? What... 00:26:15.64\00:26:17.94 Once a week for two hours for eight weeks. 00:26:17.97\00:26:20.61 OK. So not a lot really, just once a week, two hours of 00:26:20.64\00:26:24.85 education and they would watch a little DVD and they would also 00:26:24.88\00:26:30.02 have a little group health coaching type session, so about 00:26:30.05\00:26:34.32 a total of 16 hours invested and what happened at the end of 00:26:34.36\00:26:38.69 the eight weeks? 00:26:38.73\00:26:40.06 As a result of that, by the end of that program their emotional 00:26:40.10\00:26:42.66 intelligence was above the average emotional intelligence 00:26:42.70\00:26:46.90 of the population. 00:26:46.94\00:26:48.30 They came in below average and they ended up above average. 00:26:48.34\00:26:51.17 In fact, I'm looking at the statistics here and 46 percent 00:26:51.21\00:26:56.54 were below average and at the end only 23 percent were below 00:26:56.58\00:27:00.98 average, so over half of them went to above average that were 00:27:01.02\00:27:05.22 below and then there were 56 percent that were somewhat 00:27:05.25\00:27:10.83 above average and a total of 20 percent were in the top tier 00:27:10.86\00:27:15.43 of the nation now as a result of going through this program. 00:27:15.46\00:27:18.47 How much of a shift was there total? 00:27:18.50\00:27:20.94 So the switch was about 30 percent, the ones that were able 00:27:20.97\00:27:27.88 to reach that very high level of EQ. 00:27:27.91\00:27:31.25 OK. About 30 percent and the total emotional intelligence 00:27:31.28\00:27:34.35 scale went up by I think eight points, is that right? 00:27:34.38\00:27:37.85 That's right, eight points on average. 00:27:37.89\00:27:39.42 Actually almost nine points and that's a whole standard 00:27:39.45\00:27:42.32 deviation. Significant improvement in their 00:27:42.36\00:27:45.36 future success and happiness just by going to this eight-week 00:27:45.39\00:27:49.50 program, depression and anxiety recovery. Thanks for joining us. 00:27:49.53\00:27:55.07 on NEWSTART Now and I hope you also can improve your 00:27:55.10\00:27:58.47 emotional intelligence. 00:27:58.51\00:28:00.84 ¤ ¤ 00:28:01.78\00:28:17.56
