¤ ¤ 00:00:04.93\00:01:10.13 Hey friends, welcome to another edition of NEWSTART Now. 00:01:12.27\00:01:15.14 My name is Damon Snead. I'm filling in for Ron Giannoni and 00:01:15.17\00:01:19.67 we have in our studio today Pete Elloway. Let's take a look 00:01:19.71\00:01:24.18 at Pete's life when he first came here to NEWSTART. 00:01:24.21\00:01:26.68 I'm here because I'm obese. I need to lose some belly fat and 00:01:26.72\00:01:36.29 I have high blood pressure and I have some other minor issues 00:01:36.32\00:01:45.13 with my health. I want to feel good, more energy, I want to be 00:01:45.17\00:01:52.81 able to walk. I've got a lot of this from can't walk very far at 00:01:52.84\00:01:59.75 all because of my hip and back problems and I want to lose a 00:01:59.78\00:02:06.79 bunch of weight. I weighed 165 pounds for many, many years and 00:02:06.82\00:02:13.80 I want to go back to that weight. 00:02:13.83\00:02:17.37 ¤ ¤ 00:02:17.40\00:02:49.43 Welcome back friends. Pete, how you doing. 00:02:52.30\00:02:56.60 I'm doing well, thank you. 00:02:56.67\00:02:58.91 So tell me, how has it gone for you here. What's been your 00:02:58.94\00:03:02.14 experience here at NEWSTART? 00:03:02.18\00:03:03.61 I've had a good experience. I've been to a similar lifestyle 00:03:03.65\00:03:12.02 center about 15 years ago and it was very similar and now after 00:03:12.05\00:03:20.40 Satan has knocked me down for 15 years, I'm back into it. 00:03:20.43\00:03:25.03 I love this place. 00:03:25.10\00:03:26.94 Right, so tell me about some of the big changes that you've had 00:03:27.00\00:03:30.91 here, some of the things that stand out to you the most. 00:03:30.94\00:03:33.98 I know that others have seen it, especially myself. 00:03:34.01\00:03:38.11 Well I first arrived and everybody was so loving and so 00:03:38.15\00:03:42.18 kind and that was a good first impression. The next thing is I 00:03:42.22\00:03:48.72 got a schedule that I had to follow and put down my major 00:03:48.76\00:03:59.10 problems and that was I wasn't walking enough. I couldn't walk 00:03:59.13\00:04:04.81 very good with my bad hip and back pain and so they assigned 00:04:04.84\00:04:12.11 me a helper, Josh, and without him it would have been more 00:04:12.15\00:04:19.75 difficult but praise the Lord I started to walk more and lose 00:04:19.79\00:04:27.33 weight, feel better. Praise the Lord. 00:04:27.36\00:04:32.10 Now our last weekend together we went to the Empire mine and I 00:04:32.13\00:04:40.58 had asked you, you know, because you were actually 00:04:40.61\00:04:42.91 walking really well from when I first saw you here, you were 00:04:42.94\00:04:46.28 really struggling to walk. Then we went to that mine. You had 00:04:46.31\00:04:49.68 all the hills and the long distances and you had really... 00:04:49.72\00:04:53.92 It's a marked difference from the time that you got here to 00:04:53.96\00:04:58.76 where we are now. The walking is way much better. Now what 00:04:58.79\00:05:02.33 about your pills and your medicines. You said you were on 00:05:02.36\00:05:05.80 I think that you were one some different pain killers, pain 00:05:05.83\00:05:09.24 No, no I'm not taking any pain killers, but my medicines, I had 00:05:09.27\00:05:16.18 to keep taking and I was on a bunch of herbs. I stopped those. 00:05:16.21\00:05:23.12 And kind of uneventful with the medicines. 00:05:23.15\00:05:27.16 Now how much weight have you lost you said? 00:05:27.19\00:05:31.13 Thirteen pounds. 00:05:31.16\00:05:32.49 Thirteen pounds. We talked about that. Grab a 13-pound dumbbell 00:05:32.53\00:05:35.06 and walk around with it and you'll know how much weight 00:05:35.10\00:05:37.97 that is to be carrying around. Now tell me about your doctor. 00:05:38.00\00:05:42.40 What was your experience with Dr. K? 00:05:42.44\00:05:47.04 Well he's very empathetic and he asked a lot of questions and 00:05:47.08\00:05:55.02 seemed to address them. Allowed me to ask questions and answered 00:05:55.05\00:06:01.96 them well. Good experience with the medical doctors. I think he 00:06:01.99\00:06:09.00 had a good training. Not the typical training; well probably 00:06:09.03\00:06:14.14 probably had the typical training but then he had further 00:06:14.17\00:06:19.21 training in Biblical medicine. No meat, no dairy, Genesis 1:29. 00:06:19.27\00:06:29.55 It was awesome. This is Biblical lifestyle, Biblical health. 00:06:29.58\00:06:38.46 Loved it. 00:06:38.49\00:06:39.93 Now what did you think about the food here? 00:06:39.96\00:06:42.13 Awesome! Awesome! You know we had lentil loaf with gravy, 00:06:42.16\00:06:54.41 mashed potatoes and I said to myself why are people eating 00:06:54.44\00:06:57.55 filet mignon and mashed potatoes You know Satan has the wool 00:06:57.58\00:07:04.59 pulled over everybody's eyes. This loaf and potatoes tasted 00:07:04.62\00:07:10.69 much better. They really specialize in taste over here 00:07:10.73\00:07:14.96 and it's all no meat, no dairy. It's just awesome. 00:07:15.00\00:07:18.13 Sure, sure and the Cooking school. Great experience with 00:07:18.17\00:07:20.84 the cooking school. Michelle, she's excellent isn't she? 00:07:20.87\00:07:22.64 She talked too fast, she lost me but that's OK I got a lot 00:07:22.67\00:07:26.27 of it. Yeah. 00:07:26.31\00:07:28.58 Right. So now your overall experience in the place, what 00:07:28.61\00:07:32.31 would be a take-away note for you something that stands 00:07:32.35\00:07:35.42 out the most with the health side of things here? 00:07:35.45\00:07:38.05 Well what they stress the most is the healer that created us 00:07:38.09\00:07:49.20 and now he's recreating us and we are to blame for all of our 00:07:49.23\00:07:56.87 maladies and the recreator is addressing that, getting us 00:07:56.91\00:08:04.05 healthy just from his word from the beginning, Genesis 1:29. 00:08:04.08\00:08:09.88 I praise the Lord. That one verse in the Bible could cure 00:08:09.92\00:08:14.39 all the illnesses that we have today, the diseases that the 00:08:14.42\00:08:20.83 Egyptians had and we have today. It's like, yeah. 00:08:20.86\00:08:27.04 Now you brought up the great healer and that's an aspect here 00:08:27.07\00:08:30.74 that they hone in on, the spiritual aspect. So what is the 00:08:30.77\00:08:35.54 take-away as how the spiritual related to the health with you 00:08:35.58\00:08:39.75 and what did you get from that side of things with the Fresh 00:08:39.78\00:08:42.88 Start lectures and other such things. 00:08:42.92\00:08:44.92 Well we started out with stretching in the morning and 00:08:44.95\00:08:48.56 I could feel something there with my hip and back that I 00:08:48.59\00:08:56.16 stretched out why I could walk better. And then after the 00:08:56.20\00:09:00.60 the stretchersize we went to do lectures/sermon by you Pastor 00:09:00.64\00:09:12.25 Snead. It was the greatest. You're the greatest pastor on 00:09:12.28\00:09:15.72 the earth. You went through the cycle of faith and you started 00:09:15.75\00:09:20.76 from the beginning and throughout the whole 18-day 00:09:20.79\00:09:24.59 session here we step by step figured it all out. 00:09:24.63\00:09:31.23 Yeah the point being too and I think you got that in some of 00:09:31.27\00:09:35.47 our conversations that this is not just a spiritual journey 00:09:35.50\00:09:40.51 that you can be blessed with but it's also the same tool for 00:09:40.54\00:09:44.88 your spiritual reformation and revival is what will help you in 00:09:44.91\00:09:47.75 your health. It's how it will keep you in the health program. 00:09:47.78\00:09:50.39 Keep things going your way. Now so you've had a good 00:09:50.42\00:09:53.82 experience. So going home, what's going to be a big 00:09:53.86\00:09:57.26 challenge and what's...? 00:09:57.29\00:10:00.96 Going home this has got to continue and what we've 00:10:01.00\00:10:05.80 learned. I knew most of the stuff but I learned so much 00:10:05.83\00:10:10.67 more. It's going to be a challenge to keep on keeping on. 00:10:10.71\00:10:21.42 Now you mentioned something just a second ago. You talked about 00:10:21.45\00:10:25.25 stretching. Yeah. Now just this little, small thing that most 00:10:25.29\00:10:29.36 people wouldn't think of. I think that NEWSTART is made up 00:10:29.39\00:10:32.69 of a bunch of little things that a person wouldn't think much 00:10:32.73\00:10:37.60 about, but you string all these little things together, whether 00:10:37.63\00:10:40.90 it's stretching or a little something in your diet or 00:10:40.94\00:10:43.41 something as simple as water or fresh air, or sunlight, and you 00:10:43.44\00:10:46.94 compact all these things together in a two-and-a-half 00:10:46.98\00:10:50.85 week period you really feel the difference. And with you 00:10:50.88\00:10:54.78 we've seen it, especially in your walking and even in your 00:10:54.82\00:10:58.45 breathing and the way your feel, your attitude. It's kind of come 00:10:58.49\00:11:01.56 together for you, you think? Would you recommend this program 00:11:01.59\00:11:05.56 to someone else? 00:11:05.59\00:11:06.93 Absolutely, 100 and 1000 percent Especially when you start with 00:11:06.96\00:11:14.40 the great creator and recreator. You know, and we started that 00:11:14.44\00:11:19.07 you I think the first day. We stretched and we went and 00:11:19.11\00:11:23.55 listened to Pastor Damon Snead. Yeah, there's a spiritual and 00:11:23.58\00:11:34.89 health experience. 00:11:34.92\00:11:36.99 Now so you would say you've had a great experience. 00:11:37.03\00:11:38.39 Oh absolutely. 00:11:38.43\00:11:39.76 Excellent, yeah. So any final thoughts or final words that 00:11:39.79\00:11:44.10 you would like to say about this program to others maybe? 00:11:44.13\00:11:50.67 You know I was texting my family and my brother was there. 00:11:50.71\00:11:54.18 He says, I don't have the time, I don't have the money and I 00:11:54.21\00:12:01.25 texted him back "Pray." God, He does miracles. Pray about it. 00:12:01.28\00:12:10.33 You'll get here. 00:12:10.36\00:12:11.69 Well Pete, we appreciate you so much. We're about out of time. 00:12:11.73\00:12:16.23 God bless and thank you so much for being a part of this program 00:12:16.26\00:12:18.53 Yep, appreciate it. 00:12:18.57\00:12:20.07 Friends don't go away. This includes heart 00:12:31.11\00:12:34.65 attacks and strokes. That's six-and-a-half 747s crashing 00:12:34.68\00:12:38.15 every day. What's even more amazing is that the fix is easy. 00:12:38.19\00:12:42.42 It's your lifestyle. Wouldn't it be nice if you could actually 00:12:42.46\00:12:46.16 add quality years to your life rather than dying one organ at 00:12:46.19\00:12:49.56 a time. Obesity and diabetes are the cause of over a million 00:12:49.60\00:12:53.20 deaths per year. Most diseases are reversible because most 00:12:53.23\00:12:57.84 diseases are lifestyle diseases, especially type II diabetes and 00:12:57.87\00:13:01.84 chronic obesity. Today we have in the studios Dr. Kuninobo 00:13:27.04\00:13:33.38 Dr. Kuninobo, welcome. 00:13:33.41\00:13:34.74 Oh thank you Damon. How are you? 00:13:34.78\00:13:36.48 We're going to be talking about our good friend Peter. 00:13:36.51\00:13:38.31 Oh, OK. 00:13:38.35\00:13:39.68 Peter is a guy with an interesting story. Started out 00:13:39.71\00:13:42.85 as a very young professional. In his opening interview he said 00:13:42.88\00:13:46.72 he was 165 pounds most of his life. 00:13:46.76\00:13:49.46 And a giving guy, it sounded like. 00:13:49.49\00:13:51.39 Yeah, very giving. 00:13:51.43\00:13:52.76 Working for the underserved population or something 00:13:52.79\00:13:54.13 like that. 00:13:54.16\00:13:55.50 Yeah, very good. Dedicating his life to helping the 00:13:55.53\00:13:57.23 underprivileged. Decades of life go by and then all of a sudden 00:13:57.27\00:14:01.80 he wakes up. He's advanced in age, he's extremely overweight 00:14:01.84\00:14:07.64 he said I'm obese and he's having a lot of health problems, 00:14:07.68\00:14:11.11 mobility problems, issues getting his health back and 00:14:11.15\00:14:15.72 that's what he wants. He says I want to get my life back. 00:14:15.75\00:14:18.95 But how do you do that after years of decay, the process. 00:14:18.99\00:14:25.43 What did you see in him? 00:14:25.46\00:14:26.80 What I saw in Peter was that this is going to be a long road 00:14:26.83\00:14:30.53 for him and so what Peter needs and anybody needs in this 00:14:30.57\00:14:36.91 situation is going to be the mind set of just one step at 00:14:36.94\00:14:42.54 a time, one step at a time. Because even though he woke up 00:14:42.58\00:14:47.88 one day and found that he was where he is today, it didn't 00:14:47.92\00:14:51.75 happen overnight. 00:14:51.79\00:14:53.42 Right, biding time. 00:14:53.46\00:14:56.06 Yeah but that's very typical in America with what we jokingly 00:14:56.09\00:15:01.30 call our SAD way of eating. Yeah, the Standard American Diet 00:15:01.33\00:15:06.74 and it's happened to probably all of us. I don't know if it's 00:15:06.77\00:15:11.97 happened to you but it happened to me where you start off life 00:15:12.01\00:15:16.38 fit and energetic and a professional life whatever it 00:15:16.41\00:15:21.15 may be and the pressures of time you start eating what's 00:15:21.18\00:15:28.66 convenient and you start eating what tastes good and you get 00:15:28.69\00:15:36.87 handed food maybe sometimes in meetings. 00:15:36.90\00:15:38.80 Oh the donut machine. The quick McDonalds. 00:15:38.83\00:15:40.97 Whatever, and the weight just starts to slowly, imperceptibly 00:15:43.67\00:15:47.24 go on. It doesn't take a lot. When you think about 40 years of 00:15:47.28\00:15:49.81 time we're not talking a huge amount of weight, five pounds a 00:15:49.84\00:15:55.08 year, you can do the math you know. 00:15:55.12\00:15:58.22 What did that weight do to him eventually, what's... 00:15:58.25\00:16:00.92 Like if somebody would gain that much weight? Well it's 00:16:00.96\00:16:04.53 interesting one of the things he talks about is hip pain, 00:16:04.56\00:16:07.10 mobility issues and many people think of wear-and-tear arthritis 00:16:07.13\00:16:14.27 as being accelerated purely because of extra wear and tear, 00:16:14.30\00:16:19.07 the weight on that joint. It's interesting though they've 00:16:19.11\00:16:21.41 found in studies that when you carry excess weight, he used the 00:16:21.44\00:16:26.31 term obesity, which is the correct medical term for being 00:16:26.35\00:16:29.22 heavily overweight, there's something at a metabolic level 00:16:29.25\00:16:34.16 that's happening. So it's not just wear and tear on the joint 00:16:34.19\00:16:37.96 but there's an inflammatory process that takes place. 00:16:37.99\00:16:40.53 You can actually see it in the joints of the hands too. So even 00:16:40.56\00:16:44.93 though that's not carrying any of the weight like the hips or 00:16:44.97\00:16:47.87 the knees, they see that same process. So I didn't ask him how 00:16:47.90\00:16:53.44 long it had taken him but it's just interesting for a matter of 00:16:53.48\00:16:59.28 interest that joint problems are very common and it doesn't have 00:16:59.31\00:17:03.92 to be a weight-bearing joint. But that is one of his that 00:17:03.95\00:17:07.22 he's challenged with and I think it's interesting that we 00:17:07.26\00:17:10.06 all have noticed during the two- and-a-half weeks that he's been 00:17:10.09\00:17:14.03 here so far that as he's dived in, so to speak with both feet, 00:17:14.06\00:17:22.84 pushing himself a little bit. You know, it's been hard for 00:17:22.87\00:17:25.71 him because of the pain. He's had a lot of people pushing and 00:17:25.74\00:17:31.21 working on him, to get him to walk, he's walking better. 00:17:31.25\00:17:34.48 Yeah, poor Josh got the brunt of it because... 00:17:34.52\00:17:38.45 The premed student that's been working with him has been very 00:17:38.49\00:17:42.49 good at reminding him even though he doesn't feel like it 00:17:42.52\00:17:45.63 you know, he's been pushed, but he's seeing the rewards. 00:17:45.66\00:17:49.70 He said he lost how much weight? 00:17:49.73\00:17:51.60 Thirteen. 00:17:51.63\00:17:52.97 Thirteen pounds. 00:17:53.00\00:17:54.34 That's big for someone in that situation. 00:17:54.37\00:17:55.70 For having the challenges he has with mobility and inability to 00:17:55.74\00:18:00.68 walk. You know, normally you would walk a lot to burn those 00:18:00.71\00:18:03.68 calories, well he hasn't been able to walk that fast to do 00:18:03.71\00:18:07.68 that, but the NEWSTART principles combining the diet 00:18:07.72\00:18:11.39 with the exercise and drinking the water and all of the other 00:18:11.42\00:18:15.46 things just chipping away at it, he's made progress and that's 00:18:15.49\00:18:20.20 really encouraging. 00:18:20.23\00:18:21.56 Sure, I mean 13 pounds is a lot of weight on a frame that's 00:18:21.60\00:18:25.50 stressed and another 13 and another 13 and then more 00:18:25.53\00:18:28.30 mobility. You'll see it. And I know that when he first got here 00:18:28.34\00:18:32.34 I was watching him. He struggled but when we take that 00:18:32.37\00:18:35.54 little vacation time at the end of the session and go to the 00:18:35.58\00:18:38.35 Empire mine, he was struggling but that's a long haul from the 00:18:38.38\00:18:45.15 beginning up to the main house and he did it. He was tired, he 00:18:45.19\00:18:49.72 was wore out, he was grumpy but he did it and I told him 00:18:49.76\00:18:53.13 I reminded him, I said you are doing much better, 00:18:53.16\00:18:55.73 keep up the good work. 00:18:55.76\00:18:57.43 Yeah, and I think that's the other thing that you know with 00:18:57.47\00:19:01.54 many times, especially with today's television shows, people 00:19:01.57\00:19:06.64 think things come easy. You know the greatest loser or whatever 00:19:06.68\00:19:08.21 and people don't see the work behind it. You know he's had to 00:19:08.24\00:19:12.88 work but he's had a wonderful group of people working with 00:19:12.91\00:19:15.28 him and that's one of the beauties. If you have health 00:19:15.32\00:19:17.99 goals, you need help, get the help you need with either a 00:19:18.02\00:19:21.16 program like NEWSTART. 00:19:21.19\00:19:22.52 Come to NEWSTART. 00:19:22.56\00:19:23.89 Yeah, you get help, it's a long walk. 00:19:23.93\00:19:26.26 It's a long journey and you're going to have a swarm of people, 00:19:26.29\00:19:30.07 10 or 15 people praying for you, working for you, pushing back. 00:19:30.10\00:19:33.03 Praying for you. None of us can do this on our own. 00:19:33.07\00:19:36.54 That's right and he recognized that. He was one also that was 00:19:36.57\00:19:41.01 really touched with the spiritual concepts that he's 00:19:41.04\00:19:43.91 going to need help when he goes home by himself, but I believe 00:19:43.95\00:19:48.02 that he's on a road to recovery. 00:19:48.05\00:19:49.95 I believe so too. 00:19:49.98\00:19:51.32 We're out of time again my friend. Thank you so very much. 00:19:51.35\00:19:54.22 God bless you. 00:19:54.26\00:19:55.59 Yeah, you too. 00:19:55.66\00:19:56.99 Don't go away friends, we'll be right back. 00:19:57.03\00:19:59.23 When you look at the health status of American's today, it's 00:20:00.90\00:20:03.83 alarming to see that 60 percent are either overweight or obese. 00:20:03.87\00:20:09.60 In addition, diseases such as type II diabetes, cancer and 00:20:13.94\00:20:16.88 heart disorders are the leading cause of so many complications 00:20:16.91\00:20:20.22 and deaths every year. 00:20:20.25\00:20:22.98 Could it have something to do with what we eat? After all 00:20:26.79\00:20:30.36 every one in four Americans visits a fast food restaurant 00:20:30.39\00:20:32.99 daily and with such easy access to quick-fix foods we tend to 00:20:33.03\00:20:37.80 forget what poor health value those foods actually offer. 00:20:37.83\00:20:41.47 Maybe it's the sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise 00:20:41.50\00:20:45.17 that we've become so accustomed to as a media-dependent world. 00:20:45.21\00:20:48.34 Whatever the cause of these diseases, a solution has arrived 00:20:48.38\00:20:53.48 The NEWSTART Lifestyle Center offers an enriching program 00:20:53.52\00:20:58.95 where patients can get a healing of mind, body and soul. It's amazing what a NEWSTART can do for you. 00:22:00.72\00:22:04.69 Welcome to Weimar Institute Research. Glad to have you here 00:22:06.69\00:22:10.99 today and Eddie this is kind of an exciting study that we're 00:22:11.03\00:22:13.73 about ready to discuss because this is talking about causes of 00:22:13.76\00:22:18.43 depression that are not thought to be reversible. And you know 00:22:18.47\00:22:22.74 Weimar Institute does treat depression and we have had a 00:22:22.77\00:22:28.58 great track record of success in those with the severest forms 00:22:28.61\00:22:31.78 of depression and anxiety here. But we're reversing the 00:22:31.81\00:22:35.82 underlying causes, you know. Lack of exercise can be one of 00:22:35.85\00:22:39.12 the causes and poor nutrition. And, of course, the good news is 00:22:39.15\00:22:43.16 we can change our exercise patterns and we can change 00:22:43.19\00:22:45.69 what we're eating. But these are causes that are a little 00:22:45.73\00:22:49.36 austere. What were we studying? 00:22:49.40\00:22:53.03 We were studying here what happens to those people that 00:22:53.07\00:22:57.41 poor blood flow to the brain secondary to stroke or because 00:22:57.44\00:23:04.18 of heart failure or some other condition that doesn't send 00:23:04.21\00:23:07.52 enough blood flow to the brain. And we're studying what happens 00:23:07.55\00:23:10.52 to those people that are in mental health. 00:23:10.55\00:23:12.72 OK. Well obviously if the circulation to our brain is 00:23:12.75\00:23:16.73 impaired you would think it might affect the mental health. 00:23:16.76\00:23:19.09 And did you find a correlation there? 00:23:19.13\00:23:21.36 We found a very clear correlationship. Those people 00:23:21.40\00:23:25.27 that have that reduced blood flow to the brain actually on 00:23:25.30\00:23:29.70 average had moderate depression This is in a community setting 00:23:29.74\00:23:33.88 program that was organized. 00:23:33.91\00:23:36.75 So the average person with a history of stroke or heart 00:23:36.78\00:23:40.02 failure by definition almost they're going to have some 00:23:40.05\00:23:43.28 depression. So they're moderate major depression. That's a 00:23:43.32\00:23:47.56 significant mental illness. So how many patients were involved 00:23:47.59\00:23:53.60 in this? 00:23:53.63\00:23:54.96 This was a big sample, 5621 participants from all over the 00:23:55.00\00:23:59.53 world. 00:23:59.57\00:24:01.04 OK. And those with stroke and heart attack were a smaller 00:24:01.07\00:24:06.37 percentage. Is that right? 00:24:06.41\00:24:07.74 That's right. It was about four percent of that population had 00:24:07.78\00:24:11.88 this problem. 00:24:11.91\00:24:13.25 As the underlying cause, one of the underlying causes. 00:24:13.28\00:24:16.45 That's right. There's a researcher by the name of 00:24:16.48\00:24:18.55 Gravitz. He had tried to ask the question of the chicken and the 00:24:18.59\00:24:21.76 egg. Does the depression cause the decreased blood flow to the 00:24:21.79\00:24:25.16 brain or does the reduced blood flow to the brain cause the 00:24:25.19\00:24:27.80 depression. And he proposes that reduced blood flow to the brain 00:24:27.83\00:24:32.40 will trigger a depression. 00:24:32.43\00:24:33.77 Yeah, so that's what comes first the reduced blood flow and then 00:24:33.80\00:24:36.64 the depression. So these people with moderate depression went 00:24:36.67\00:24:43.14 to an eight-week educational program. Tell us a little bit 00:24:43.18\00:24:48.15 about that program. 00:24:48.18\00:24:49.52 We applied the principles of NEWSTART plus some cognitive 00:24:49.55\00:24:53.36 behavioral therapy principles. And as they were doing the 00:24:53.39\00:24:56.89 exercise, sticking to the plant based diet and all this healthy 00:24:56.93\00:25:00.90 behavior we took a measurement again after the eight weeks. 00:25:00.93\00:25:03.80 And what did you find out? 00:25:03.83\00:25:05.60 We found out that the improvement was remarkable. 00:25:05.63\00:25:08.60 Ninety percent of those participants were able to 00:25:08.64\00:25:12.74 improve dramatically their mental health to the point that 00:25:12.77\00:25:15.78 they finished with none or just mild depression. 00:25:15.81\00:25:18.95 That's amazing because this goes against what the medical thought 00:25:18.98\00:25:26.05 is because you can't reverse a stroke. A stroke is a dead 00:25:26.09\00:25:29.96 portion of the brain. You can't bring that back. And when you 00:25:29.99\00:25:32.56 have heart failure due to advanced coronary artery disease 00:25:32.59\00:25:35.76 and the heart's not able to pump this isn't something that you 00:25:35.80\00:25:38.50 can you know put a magic wand on or a medicine and get it to 00:25:38.53\00:25:41.50 pump well. So these are thought to be irreversible causes of 00:25:41.54\00:25:47.24 depression and we actually found out the opposite. Ninety percent 00:25:47.28\00:25:50.55 I mean, that's better than you get in people without heart 00:25:50.58\00:25:54.28 disease and stroke by putting them on a medicine. Some of the 00:25:54.32\00:25:58.12 most potent medicines for antidepression won't produce 00:25:58.15\00:26:02.06 anywhere close to a 90 percent improvement rate. 00:26:02.09\00:26:04.89 And because of the importance of this study it actually came 00:26:04.93\00:26:09.90 out in the Journal of Neurology which happens to be the top 00:26:09.93\00:26:13.40 journal on its field. 00:26:13.44\00:26:15.40 OK. So Neurology is the top of all of the neurology journals 00:26:15.44\00:26:19.31 and it was published in the Journal of Neurology as well 00:26:19.34\00:26:23.08 should it be. This is a ground breaking, this is ground 00:26:23.11\00:26:26.51 breaking research. Not only were you and myself involved in this 00:26:26.55\00:26:30.85 research but one of the health science majors at Weimar 00:26:30.89\00:26:35.69 as well. 00:26:35.72\00:26:37.06 That by the end of the program she was actually able to finish 00:26:37.09\00:26:40.36 with six of these studies under her belt. 00:26:40.40\00:26:43.63 Six studies! Wow! Many people don't even publish one peer 00:26:43.67\00:26:48.24 review study their entire career and this student out of Weimar 00:26:48.27\00:26:52.91 published six. So pay attention to what comes out of Weimar 00:26:52.94\00:26:57.45 Institute and thanks for joining us today for Weimar Institute 00:26:57.48\00:27:01.18 Research. 00:27:01.22\00:27:02.58 Well friends that's it for today but join us next week for 00:27:02.62\00:27:09.29 another episode.
