¤ ¤ 00:00:01.36\00:01:09.26 Hi folks and welcome to another edition of 00:01:11.43\00:01:14.37 NEWSTART Now. I'm your host Ron Giannoni. In our studios 00:01:14.40\00:01:19.17 with us today I've got a very unusual young man. I'd like you 00:01:19.21\00:01:23.68 to take a look at when he first arrived. 00:01:23.71\00:01:25.75 I'm dealing with... I have sleep apnea, I have asthma, I'm 00:01:25.78\00:01:33.19 dealing with congestive heart failure. I have breathing 00:01:33.22\00:01:36.22 problems. I have borderline diabetes. I'm morbidly obese. 00:01:36.26\00:01:42.63 I have problems with my circulations. I have a lot of 00:01:42.66\00:01:50.01 pains and aches all over, obviously because of the weight. 00:01:50.04\00:01:54.81 You know, when I leave this place I expect to, you know I 00:01:54.84\00:02:01.02 have a passion because I know that health is very important 00:02:01.05\00:02:05.32 and I am a literature evangelist and I believe your body is the 00:02:05.35\00:02:08.76 temple of God and I could never be able to tell anyone about 00:02:08.79\00:02:12.16 health if I'm in bad health and I'm morbidly obese. I'd be 00:02:12.19\00:02:16.67 looked as a joke. So I want to get back on track. I'm expecting 00:02:16.70\00:02:21.74 to lose an exorbitant amount of weight. I want to be a 00:02:21.77\00:02:27.24 vegetarian. I want to be the best as far as my health could 00:02:27.28\00:02:31.75 be and in the best shape. I want to start the road to full 00:02:31.78\00:02:35.38 recovery. My goal is to be 230 or 240 pounds and that's my goal 00:02:35.42\00:02:42.46 that by God's grace I believe that I'm going to do it within 00:02:42.49\00:02:46.19 a year's time and I just need something to help me to get that 00:02:46.23\00:02:50.23 weight off so I can start and I could be able to exercise and 00:02:50.27\00:02:53.13 do it. 00:02:53.17\00:02:54.50 Welcome back friends. Help me welcome Big Joe. Wow, Joe you 00:02:57.11\00:03:03.18 look great, man. You know, I know a lot of the viewers are 00:03:03.21\00:03:07.98 wondering Gee, I've seen this guy before; who is he, Big Joe? 00:03:08.02\00:03:12.35 Well I'm here to tell you that I saw Joe before he came to the 00:03:12.39\00:03:18.13 NEWSTART program on You Tube in an interview. And if you want to 00:03:18.16\00:03:24.63 go see that program it's on You Tube "Big Joe Trump." Type in 00:03:24.67\00:03:31.37 those words and you'll get to see Big Joe and he's here now. 00:03:31.41\00:03:34.98 So Joe, first thing I got to ask you, what was your heaviest 00:03:35.01\00:03:40.28 weight you ever weighed? 00:03:40.32\00:03:41.65 My maximum weight would have been about in December about 00:03:41.68\00:03:46.96 maybe three months ago. Basically I went to the doctor's 00:03:46.99\00:03:51.33 office and I got on the scale and I was about 495 pounds. 00:03:51.36\00:03:56.67 And how much are you today? 00:03:56.70\00:03:58.33 Today I am at 430 about 34 pounds. 00:03:58.37\00:04:06.68 So you've lost about 60 pounds in the last couple of months. 00:04:06.71\00:04:09.84 Yeah. Awesome. God is good. 00:04:09.88\00:04:12.08 Now since you've been here Joe you've lost weight I know, 00:04:12.11\00:04:15.65 what 30 pounds roughly? 00:04:15.68\00:04:17.09 I lost precisely 21 pounds from the time I came here. 00:04:17.12\00:04:23.69 Good. Now how about medications? Are you off medications. 00:04:23.73\00:04:28.06 Um, everything that I was on I'm totally off of it right now. 00:04:28.10\00:04:32.33 You're off of all medications? 00:04:32.37\00:04:33.70 I am not taking any meds. 00:04:33.74\00:04:35.07 But aren't you diabetic. 00:04:35.10\00:04:36.87 I was borderline. 00:04:36.91\00:04:39.07 But now you don't have to worry about it. 00:04:39.11\00:04:40.68 Basically everything, my blood pressure, I had a lot of things 00:04:40.71\00:04:45.65 that was going on with me at the time and I was on a lot of meds. 00:04:45.68\00:04:49.38 OK. And coming here I'm not taking anything right now and 00:04:49.42\00:04:55.12 everything is under control. 00:04:55.16\00:04:56.49 Now when you got here I know that we have a half-mile loop 00:04:56.52\00:05:00.16 and you couldn't walk that half-mile loop. Are you able 00:05:00.20\00:05:05.30 to do it now? 00:05:05.33\00:05:06.67 Definitely. And actually it's my custom being here now I actually 00:05:06.70\00:05:11.61 do at least four times a day and more. I've done a lot of 00:05:11.64\00:05:19.21 things that I was not able to do because I was not accustomed 00:05:19.25\00:05:22.85 to moving around so much and actually walking up. This is 00:05:22.88\00:05:27.66 pretty terrainy and hilly and I wasn't accustomed to that 00:05:27.69\00:05:32.39 especially in the city where I live. 00:05:32.43\00:05:36.26 Now something very unusual happened while you were here. 00:05:36.30\00:05:39.37 All of a sudden, and people who are watching us right now, a lot 00:05:39.40\00:05:44.51 of them do not realize the spiritual component of a 00:05:44.54\00:05:49.58 NEWSTART program, but it hit you in a big way and you were 00:05:49.61\00:05:54.28 rebaptized. 00:05:54.32\00:05:56.08 Yes I was. Yeah, and I'm so happy I've done that. You know, 00:05:56.12\00:06:01.32 I committed myself when I decided to come to this program 00:06:01.36\00:06:05.23 I knew that I needed to do a change in my diet. I knew that 00:06:05.26\00:06:09.33 my life depended on it. And I wanted to be very serious about 00:06:09.36\00:06:13.64 this because I've had a struggle with appetite and diet. A lot of 00:06:13.67\00:06:18.81 people do. But I wanted to make sure that I sealed my decision 00:06:18.84\00:06:23.51 with God and this was not going to be just me doing this on my 00:06:23.55\00:06:27.65 own in my own strength but me doing it with the power of God 00:06:27.68\00:06:31.25 in my life. So I made a commitment to him that I'm so 00:06:31.29\00:06:34.82 serious about this that I'm going to recommit myself to you 00:06:34.86\00:06:39.26 so that you can help me to do this because I know I wouldn't 00:06:39.29\00:06:43.63 have been able to do it all by myself. 00:06:43.67\00:06:45.37 He's been down here. Talk about water he gave. Man this is going 00:06:45.40\00:06:48.90 to be a resurrection all right. 00:06:48.94\00:06:50.27 Joe, yeah, because of your desire, yes, to enter into that 00:06:50.31\00:06:55.84 door we spoke of as death, and leave your old self behind and 00:06:55.88\00:06:59.41 be resurrected in power of the Holy Spirit, we now baptize you 00:06:59.45\00:07:03.02 in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. 00:07:03.05\00:07:10.73 Cheering and applause and singing. 00:07:10.76\00:07:21.90 Amen. You know, no truer words have ever been spoken and I read 00:07:21.94\00:07:28.84 this morning in our Quarterly how Peter got out of the boat 00:07:28.88\00:07:34.82 and he was walking on water towards Jesus but then he took 00:07:34.85\00:07:38.25 his eyes off of Jesus and you know the rest. Of course. 00:07:38.29\00:07:42.82 But he sunk and he said Jesus help me and this is the life 00:07:42.86\00:07:47.00 that we live. We take our eyes off the Lord and we start to 00:07:47.03\00:07:51.60 sink, but then we cry out and he reaches out his hand and 00:07:51.63\00:07:55.17 lifts us out of despair and that's what you just said to me. 00:07:55.20\00:07:59.17 Right. Yeah. You can't do nothing without him. 00:07:59.21\00:08:03.21 OK. Now let me ask you a question: Aside from me, who's 00:08:03.24\00:08:08.42 your favorite person. No I didn't mean to say it that way. 00:08:08.45\00:08:12.02 What impressed you the most about our program. 00:08:12.05\00:08:16.52 Oh man, you have a really comprehensive program. The fact 00:08:16.56\00:08:20.80 that you're even out in the country and the mountain 00:08:20.83\00:08:23.60 scenery and 00:08:23.63\00:08:24.97 you take someone out of the city, because I'm accustomed to 00:08:25.00\00:08:27.67 the pollution, the smog and everything and out of the urban 00:08:27.70\00:08:32.94 area into a country scenery, a quiet, a beautiful mountainous 00:08:32.97\00:08:37.91 region. I'm drinking healthy you know, eating healthy food, water 00:08:37.95\00:08:43.99 I'm meeting people from all over the country that have different 00:08:44.02\00:08:48.69 ailments but we all have the same goals. I mean this 00:08:48.72\00:08:51.76 environment, this environment is so. I mean the rooms, the 00:08:51.79\00:08:55.13 beds are so comfortable, very rare that I find a bed that... 00:08:55.16\00:08:58.63 So you're pretty impressed about the whole thing. 00:08:58.67\00:09:01.34 Yes the whole inside of the lodge is very comfortable and 00:09:01.37\00:09:04.87 accommodating. The people, the workers are so friendly and 00:09:04.91\00:09:10.85 they're really loving and cooperative. You know everybody 00:09:10.88\00:09:14.55 is there to assist you. 00:09:14.58\00:09:18.05 What about your doctor? Was he accommodating? 00:09:18.09\00:09:20.32 Oh most definitely, definitely. 00:09:20.36\00:09:22.56 And that was Dr. Lukens? 00:09:22.59\00:09:24.36 Dr. Lukens, yeah he's my doctor. 00:09:24.39\00:09:26.80 Do you find him different than the doctors off campus. 00:09:26.83\00:09:31.20 Oh yes. Dr. Lukens and also Dr. Gallant these guys are really... 00:09:31.23\00:09:40.18 The doctors I've noticed here are very oriented in as far as 00:09:40.21\00:09:46.55 getting cured but in the holistic way and doing it by 00:09:46.58\00:09:52.09 eating healthier and eliminating the fats in our diet and things 00:09:52.12\00:09:56.26 of that nature which is very unusual. Whereas the other 00:09:56.29\00:10:00.10 doctors outside of this place more into pharmaceuticals and 00:10:00.13\00:10:05.60 just giving your drugs to try to... And it doesn't actually 00:10:05.63\00:10:08.90 take care of the problem it just takes care of the symptoms of 00:10:08.94\00:10:14.41 what's going on but it doesn't address the underlying issue 00:10:14.44\00:10:18.58 which the doctors here address the underlying and prevention 00:10:18.61\00:10:22.15 all together. And if we could prevent these we don't even have 00:10:22.18\00:10:26.82 to worry about dealing with these things. 00:10:26.86\00:10:29.42 Joe, I want to thank you for joining us here. We've run out 00:10:29.46\00:10:33.96 of time. God bless you brother. I'll be following up. 00:10:34.00\00:10:38.03 Well thank you. 00:10:38.07\00:10:39.40 Friends don't go away. Dr. Lukens will be up next. 00:10:39.43\00:10:43.87 Every year in America there are over one million deaths because 00:10:47.34\00:10:50.28 of type II diabetes and chronic obesity. This includes heart 00:10:50.31\00:10:53.68 attacks and strokes. That's six and a half 747s crashing 00:10:53.72\00:10:58.15 every day. What's even more amazing is that the fix is easy. 00:10:58.19\00:11:01.36 It's your lifestyle. Wouldn't it be nice if you could actually 00:11:01.39\00:11:05.39 add quality years to your life rather than dying one organ at 00:11:05.43\00:11:08.73 a time. Obesity and diabetes are the cause of over a million 00:11:08.76\00:11:12.50 deaths per year. Most diseases are reversible because most 00:11:12.53\00:11:16.94 diseases are lifestyle diseases, especially type II diabetes and 00:11:16.97\00:11:21.44 chronic obesity. Seriously now they can be reversed and the 00:11:21.48\00:11:25.35 quality of your life can be renewed. Call NEWSTART today 00:11:25.38\00:11:29.52 at 1-800-525-9192. The NEWSTART programs are 00:11:39.89\00:11:43.67 simple and effective. 00:11:43.70\00:11:45.47 Welcome back friends. Please help me welcome Dr. Lukens. 00:11:48.34\00:11:53.04 Ron good to see you. 00:11:53.07\00:11:54.48 It's always good to see you. I want to talk about Joe but 00:11:54.51\00:11:58.45 before we get in the subject of Big Joe, I want to talk about 00:11:58.48\00:12:03.55 Big Rick Lukens. No. Yeah. you've been here what, 28 00:12:03.59\00:12:07.36 years? Yeah 27. But who's counting. No. You know you've 00:12:07.39\00:12:14.20 just been such a great mentor to me in both health and my 00:12:14.23\00:12:21.30 spiritual path has changed. You know you come to my office and 00:12:21.34\00:12:27.11 pray together and I'm just grateful for that. I wanted our 00:12:27.14\00:12:31.28 viewers to know because an integral part of our program is 00:12:31.31\00:12:35.62 our spiritual connection with the Lord. 00:12:35.65\00:12:38.52 It has to be. 00:12:38.55\00:12:39.89 It has to be. Otherwise things just don't work. So Big Joe. 00:12:39.92\00:12:44.96 What a guy. Big. Man, yeah he's big. He picked me up and shook 00:12:44.99\00:12:51.23 me like a rag doll and then he did this with a couple of our 00:12:51.27\00:12:56.97 staff members, picked up two of them at the same time. This guy 00:12:57.01\00:13:01.11 is huge and strong for a guy with all these problems though. 00:13:01.14\00:13:04.55 You know, we got to get him in good shape. He is in better 00:13:04.58\00:13:09.78 shape today. Oh yeah, yeah. Than he was when he got here. 00:13:09.82\00:13:12.85 Wouldn't you say? 00:13:12.89\00:13:14.32 Well one of the things that was really bothering him is that his 00:13:14.36\00:13:17.89 legs were so swollen and so I took my thumb as we do and 00:13:17.93\00:13:24.87 pressed on the pretibial area of the shin and I got all the way 00:13:24.90\00:13:28.70 up to his knee and he still had more. Then we always talk about 00:13:28.74\00:13:37.08 this: when the heart gets strong it's able to pump through 00:13:37.11\00:13:40.75 the kidneys and I could see his eyes going like that because he 00:13:40.78\00:13:45.32 lost a lot of weight from one Monday to the next, you know. 00:13:45.35\00:13:49.36 Yes, but he must have gained more muscle at the same time. 00:13:49.39\00:13:53.70 Well he did. So after he lost the water than he didn't lose 00:13:53.73\00:13:57.83 as much because he was doing pretty good exercise. One time 00:13:57.87\00:14:01.14 I said Joe, look if you're going to talk to somebody get out on 00:14:01.17\00:14:07.54 the loop and walk and talk. He was still talking, pictures, you 00:14:07.58\00:14:13.31 picking people up. I said Joe come here and I took him by the 00:14:13.35\00:14:17.62 you know sort of and I said let's go walk. Because sometimes 00:14:17.65\00:14:22.79 you know his blood pressure would go way up. Oh Yeah. 00:14:22.82\00:14:24.99 You know our heart has to pump through all of our body. 00:14:25.03\00:14:28.16 We can't just say well today the right leg isn't going to get any 00:14:28.20\00:14:31.93 circulation. So that's the reason why he was failing but he 00:14:31.97\00:14:36.77 has a pretty healthy appetite if you want to say healthy. It's 00:14:36.81\00:14:42.98 beyond healthy. 00:14:43.01\00:14:44.35 Wow. Yeah, yeah. You know he wanted to go see Pastor Doug 00:14:44.38\00:14:49.88 Batchelor. Oh yeah, yeah, you took him down there. 00:14:49.92\00:14:51.65 And so I took him down there. 00:14:51.69\00:14:53.02 Did he pick him up and say hi. 00:14:53.05\00:14:56.22 Well he did pick him up but all he wanted to do is meet people. 00:14:56.26\00:14:59.76 So hello to everybody. He's just like this celebrity, you know. 00:14:59.79\00:15:05.33 He's quite an amazing guy and I've learned to love him. 00:15:05.37\00:15:10.74 But I've got to cut him short because he takes the show. 00:15:10.77\00:15:14.51 I mean. You saw the baptism which we showed our friends 00:15:14.54\00:15:18.01 here and he had everybody on top of the mountain. He wanted 00:15:18.05\00:15:21.42 everybody to take a picture with him with 100, 125 people there. 00:15:21.45\00:15:25.75 And everybody had to be there with Big Joe. 00:15:25.79\00:15:28.46 Yeah, yeah that's Joe. You know one of the things that I don't 00:15:28.49\00:15:32.89 know, he said that he is a literature evangelist but he 00:15:32.93\00:15:35.96 said they bring in these truck- loads of extra books, you know. 00:15:36.00\00:15:41.64 People are wanting everything on line now so books are not as... 00:15:41.70\00:15:47.34 because they used to. And then he helps people to learn how to 00:15:47.38\00:15:50.55 give the books out and to engage people. It isn't just 00:15:50.58\00:15:53.98 like, you know, like this. He talks to them a little bit and 00:15:54.02\00:15:57.52 finds out and then he canvassed one of our staff at... Yeah, 00:15:57.55\00:16:02.72 yeah, he even said what church you go to and what do you know 00:16:02.76\00:16:06.29 about the Bible and then he said, well I'm going to give you 00:16:06.33\00:16:08.83 this book, will you read it. And she said yeah, yeah, I'll 00:16:08.86\00:16:12.43 read it you know. So that's good you know. People... 00:16:12.47\00:16:16.14 He's a little intimidating though don't you think> 00:16:16.17\00:16:17.94 Well his size has something to do with it. 00:16:17.97\00:16:20.74 Towering over you know saying you will read this. 00:16:20.78\00:16:22.94 But see the thing is that people that are like that when 00:16:22.98\00:16:28.22 they can get a hold of this and actually do the whole plant 00:16:28.25\00:16:33.99 foods eaten whole, then they're just like some of pastors from 00:16:34.02\00:16:40.86 other churches that have come here. And the people are saying 00:16:40.90\00:16:45.47 you've got to tell me pastor, how did you do it, you know. 00:16:45.50\00:16:47.97 Some of the people are well known in the country and it's 00:16:48.00\00:16:53.11 wonderful because then when a person starts getting some 00:16:53.14\00:16:57.68 victories in their life in the area of health, then they say 00:16:57.71\00:17:01.65 you know Lord you can help me with my temper or my other 00:17:01.68\00:17:08.02 addictions or whatever and then that's a wonderful thing. That's 00:17:08.06\00:17:11.66 why we're here. 00:17:11.69\00:17:13.03 I think he's done remarkably well. You're his doctor. I know 00:17:13.06\00:17:17.13 he's had so many issues. You know he's taken so much 00:17:17.17\00:17:20.97 medication with all these different things but he tells 00:17:21.00\00:17:26.17 me that he's continuing on the path and he's going to be a 00:17:26.21\00:17:29.74 poster child for the NEWSTART program, and we need to follow 00:17:29.78\00:17:33.75 up on him. 00:17:33.78\00:17:35.12 Yeah we do. Did he say how much he's walking, because that's the 00:17:35.15\00:17:37.69 main thing for him. 00:17:37.72\00:17:39.05 He told me he's cut back but I said you got to walk. Yeah. 00:17:39.09\00:17:43.19 And we're out of time. See when you're having fun what happens. 00:17:43.22\00:17:46.93 Thank you so much. 00:17:46.96\00:17:49.23 Everybody pray for Big Joe. 00:17:49.26\00:17:52.50 Pray for Big Joe. 00:17:52.53\00:17:53.87 I say Joe because we don't want him to be big anymore. 00:17:53.90\00:17:56.04 No. He's going to be tall. But friends don't go away, 00:17:56.07\00:17:59.11 Pastor Snead is up next. 00:17:59.14\00:18:00.68 Welcome back friends. Help me welcome Pastor Snead. 00:18:03.85\00:18:08.92 How you doing. 00:18:08.95\00:18:10.29 I'm doing good Brother. You know I just found out today you have 00:18:10.32\00:18:12.52 some Italian blood in you. 00:18:12.55\00:18:14.09 Yes sir my... 00:18:14.12\00:18:15.46 I got to relate to you a little different. But I want our 00:18:15.49\00:18:18.53 viewers to know that you are our newest pastor and you've been 00:18:18.56\00:18:24.67 here since June of 2016. Yes sir And from my perspective you've 00:18:24.70\00:18:31.61 baptized more people in the last eight months than I think we did 00:18:31.64\00:18:35.48 in the previous eight years. So that tells me something. 00:18:35.51\00:18:39.71 The work you're doing is wonderful. I just want to 00:18:39.75\00:18:43.39 thank you. But's let's talk about Joe. 00:18:43.42\00:18:46.96 Big Joe. What do you see here. Help us to understand what we're 00:18:46.99\00:18:52.29 seeing in this man. 00:18:52.33\00:18:54.73 Well Big Joe, what I see in Big Joe is typical in a lot of 00:18:54.76\00:18:57.90 church members, a lot of Adventists that come through. 00:18:57.93\00:18:59.77 Big Joe was one of these guys that he came, he's been a part 00:18:59.80\00:19:03.81 of the church for a long time but about half way through the 00:19:03.84\00:19:07.41 program Big Joe began to have a spiritual revival. The health 00:19:07.44\00:19:12.01 starts working. By the second week things are starting to 00:19:12.05\00:19:16.35 change. I noticed the first week it was kind of rough for Big Joe 00:19:16.38\00:19:19.75 but by the second week he really began to pay attention and come 00:19:19.79\00:19:24.29 alive and it led to him being baptized, to a spiritual revival 00:19:24.33\00:19:29.13 for him. 00:19:29.16\00:19:31.13 That was amazing. There had to be 150 people at that baptism. 00:19:31.17\00:19:33.84 Yeah, it was a big one for a big one. 00:19:33.87\00:19:40.01 For a big one. I recall that you were trying to get him out of 00:19:40.04\00:19:43.24 the water there that took four people to get him out. 00:19:43.28\00:19:45.21 Yeah if Kurt Kruger wouldn't have been there it would have 00:19:45.25\00:19:47.68 been an interesting baptism. Because he came out of my arms 00:19:47.72\00:19:51.62 That was a handful I had. Yeah. 00:19:51.65\00:19:53.29 Such a blessing. You know, we know that you have a lot to do 00:19:53.32\00:19:57.03 with that Pastor and you know to me, I want to talk about you 00:19:57.06\00:20:02.33 just for a little bit. You are such a loving man and I think 00:20:02.36\00:20:08.20 I understand more after talking to you a few times, but our 00:20:08.24\00:20:12.54 guests who come through the program feel that love. They 00:20:12.57\00:20:16.11 feel your sincerity and I feel that Weimar and the NEWSTART 00:20:16.14\00:20:20.95 program is blessed to have you here. And I'm not trying to give 00:20:20.98\00:20:26.49 you a big head, you know that. But it's by God's grace that 00:20:26.52\00:20:32.09 you've been given this talent and to see you use it so wisely 00:20:32.13\00:20:37.27 is just awesome and I want to thank you. 00:20:37.30\00:20:39.73 I appreciate it. 00:20:39.77\00:20:41.10 Again, back to Joe, what else can we talk about with this 00:20:41.14\00:20:44.21 big teddy bear? 00:20:44.24\00:20:45.57 Big Joe. He is full of love and to me he demonstrates the kind 00:20:45.61\00:20:56.45 of people I love to see come through with that openness, that 00:20:56.48\00:21:00.46 genuineness, ready to listen, you know as the health begins 00:21:00.49\00:21:03.93 to work in his life he opens up spiritually and he blossomed 00:21:03.96\00:21:08.93 right there with us. What I love about Big Joe was his honesty. 00:21:08.96\00:21:13.57 He was almost toward the end when, you know towards the end 00:21:13.60\00:21:15.17 of the second week when we have that call for really rebaptism. 00:21:15.20\00:21:20.34 And you know, I've been here for nine months now. We've had 200 00:21:20.38\00:21:25.61 people come through NEWSTART. Of those 200 people 168 of them 00:21:25.65\00:21:29.22 have come to the Fresh Start program and of those 168 we've 00:21:29.25\00:21:33.02 had 27 of those people either baptized, rebaptized or 00:21:33.05\00:21:38.56 attending a local Seventh-day Adventist church or in serious 00:21:38.59\00:21:42.50 Bible studies. That's like a 16 percent revival in the church 00:21:42.53\00:21:48.84 and that's in an 18-day turn around. So could you imagine 00:21:48.87\00:21:53.51 Big Joes like that in every church everywhere in all of our 00:21:53.54\00:21:57.18 sister churches. I mean, this health message has a power in it 00:21:57.21\00:22:01.62 unlike anything else that I've ever seen. Of 13 years in the 00:22:01.65\00:22:05.19 ministry in the dry desert of doing whatever I can do it has 00:22:05.22\00:22:10.93 been a blessing to come here and see how health really works 00:22:10.96\00:22:14.30 together with the gospel with the spiritual to bring people 00:22:14.33\00:22:17.77 like Big Joe into these decisions and have a revived 00:22:17.80\00:22:20.87 life. 00:22:20.90\00:22:22.24 Amen. Thank you brother. God bless you. And friends thank 00:22:22.27\00:22:26.54 you too, but don't go away. Dr. Nedley is up next. 00:22:26.57\00:22:30.98 ¤ ¤ 00:22:32.61\00:23:05.15 Welcome to Weimar Institute Research. And today we have 00:23:05.18\00:23:10.09 Dr. Ramirez, the head of our research at Weimar College who 00:23:10.12\00:23:14.39 teaches in our health science department research methods and 00:23:14.42\00:23:19.13 today we have another angle looking at some health 00:23:19.16\00:23:24.43 principles. Tell us about this particular angle, Dr. Ramirez. 00:23:24.47\00:23:28.94 Yeah, this one is dealing about regularity and it's interesting 00:23:28.97\00:23:33.11 because you know I've been through more than 60 countries 00:23:33.14\00:23:36.01 lecturing about these principles of NEWSTART and people come to 00:23:36.04\00:23:39.91 me and say you know this is the first time I hear that 00:23:39.95\00:23:42.08 regularity is important for my health. 00:23:42.12\00:23:44.59 Yeah. You know we know that circadian rhythms are important 00:23:44.62\00:23:49.86 and this is our daily cycle. And we also know light helps set the 00:23:49.89\00:23:57.50 circadian rhythms and if our circadian rhythms are doing well 00:23:57.53\00:24:00.74 we're going to be sleeping better. But this is also taking 00:24:00.77\00:24:05.81 a look at not only regularity regarding sleep but regularity 00:24:05.84\00:24:10.81 in another area. 00:24:10.85\00:24:12.18 Also in your meals. Eating your meals at the same time every 00:24:12.21\00:24:18.29 day including the weekends. 00:24:18.32\00:24:19.75 So if you have regularity in eating it actually can improve 00:24:19.79\00:24:25.93 your health. 00:24:25.96\00:24:27.53 That's right. 00:24:27.56\00:24:29.06 Now what area of health were you looking at? 00:24:29.10\00:24:30.43 We were focusing here on mental health. What effect does regular 00:24:30.47\00:24:35.94 eating and sleeping have on your depression. 00:24:35.97\00:24:39.97 You know, I went to a GI conference a little over a year 00:24:40.01\00:24:43.51 ago where they talked about even our bowel has a circadian rhythm 00:24:43.55\00:24:48.75 and it does much better if we have that rhythm aligned and on 00:24:48.78\00:24:54.06 a regular basis. 00:24:54.09\00:24:55.49 And we have the solution to the blue Monday that many people 00:24:55.52\00:25:01.13 suffer from worldwide. 00:25:01.16\00:25:05.43 Yeah, the blue Monday because they get off on their sleep 00:25:05.47\00:25:09.04 and they get off on their meals. 00:25:09.07\00:25:10.67 That's right. 00:25:10.71\00:25:12.04 So how many people were you looking at? 00:25:12.07\00:25:13.61 So this is a big sample, 5,621 participants that did an eight 00:25:13.64\00:25:22.58 week community education program 00:25:22.62\00:25:24.32 OK. And that community education program was the depression 00:25:24.35\00:25:28.16 anxiety recovery program and by going to that program, they 00:25:28.19\00:25:34.63 take a test at the beginning to see where they're at and 00:25:34.66\00:25:38.03 assess them. And what did we find out in that first test? 00:25:38.07\00:25:41.57 What we found out is that those people that don't have 00:25:41.60\00:25:44.77 regularity tend to have higher levels of depression, 15 points 00:25:44.81\00:25:50.38 on average, compared to those that have that regularity; the 00:25:50.41\00:25:55.85 mental health is much better. 00:25:55.88\00:25:57.85 OK. So regularity in both things (in both things) sleeping and 00:25:57.89\00:26:02.96 eating will actually help your depression and anxiety 00:26:02.99\00:26:06.56 significantly or not make it as severe if you have it. 00:26:06.59\00:26:09.73 And we also found out that those that are not regular 00:26:09.76\00:26:13.84 about 30 percent of them, they don't sleep good, they have bad 00:26:13.87\00:26:18.81 sleep. 00:26:18.84\00:26:20.81 OK. So it will also affect your sleep. Now what happened during 00:26:20.84\00:26:24.81 the eight weeks then? 00:26:24.85\00:26:26.18 So during the eight weeks they were educated on these NEWSTART 00:26:26.21\00:26:30.69 principles that are so important but also on that 00:26:30.72\00:26:33.86 regularity because our brain doesn't work when there's 00:26:33.89\00:26:37.76 disaster in our lives. 00:26:37.79\00:26:39.13 OK. So were some of them convinced enough to change 00:26:39.16\00:26:42.20 their lifestyle? I know the program isn't just about 00:26:42.23\00:26:45.13 regularity. There's a lot of other things like cognitive 00:26:45.17\00:26:48.04 behavioral therapy and nutrition but did some people actually 00:26:48.07\00:26:52.81 change their lifestyle habits. 00:26:52.84\00:26:54.44 By the end of the program 12 percent of those nonregulars 00:26:54.48\00:26:59.25 decided to become regular and it was reflected in their scores. 00:26:59.28\00:27:03.08 OK. So if they did become regular, what happened? 00:27:03.12\00:27:06.59 If they became regular it was reflected in lower depression 00:27:06.62\00:27:11.09 levels, some of them non depression levels and also 00:27:11.13\00:27:14.70 their sleep quality. Only eight percent by the end of the 00:27:14.73\00:27:21.94 program had bad sleep. So from 30 percent that didn't have 00:27:21.97\00:27:27.61 regularity, those that are regular by the end, eight 00:27:27.64\00:27:30.88 percent only had bad sleep. 00:27:30.91\00:27:32.61 So just becoming regular in the time you're going to bed, the 00:27:32.65\00:27:35.95 time you're getting up and regular in meals can turn you 00:27:35.98\00:27:39.75 from a bad sleeper into a good sleeper. That's correct. That's 00:27:39.79\00:27:43.73 a dramatic improvement. The vast majority of those who did that 00:27:43.76\00:27:48.40 improved just by doing that. That's right. And as a result 00:27:48.43\00:27:52.03 of improving their circadian rhythms of their sleep patterns 00:27:52.07\00:27:55.74 and their meals their depression and anxiety recovery scores 00:27:55.77\00:28:00.81 became far better as well. I would like to encourage you to 00:28:00.84\00:28:04.41 to be regular in your sleeping and eating habits. It can pay 00:28:04.45\00:28:09.85 rich dividends in better sleep and better mood. Thank you for 00:28:09.88\00:28:15.26 watching Weimar Institute Research. 00:28:15.29\00:28:18.86
