Hi friends and welcome to NEWSTART Now. I'm your host 00:00:02.96\00:01:16.81 Ron Gianonni. In the studio with today we have a lovely young 00:01:16.84\00:01:21.78 lady by name of Robin Brown all the way from Idaho. Let's take a 00:01:21.81\00:01:27.62 look at when she first arrived. I wanted to come to Weimar for a 00:01:27.65\00:01:33.19 time. I've had trouble; I'd lose weight and then gain it back and 00:01:33.22\00:01:39.53 lose it and gain it back. I have always want to be a witness to 00:01:39.59\00:01:46.47 honor God. So when I heard that it was a possibility of coming 00:01:46.50\00:01:53.51 here I was just absolutely thrilled. The reason I'm coming, 00:01:53.54\00:02:00.52 the list is long, but I need to reverse a disease which is 00:02:00.55\00:02:07.52 called NASH, which is non alcoholic steatohepatitis. It's 00:02:07.56\00:02:14.40 just metabolic disease that your liver is fatty liver and it goes 00:02:14.43\00:02:19.37 into cirrhosis if you're not careful. So that and I want 00:02:19.40\00:02:24.27 to lose weight. I have 10 grand children and I want to be vital 00:02:24.31\00:02:31.71 and vibrant with them. I have other conditions such as rosacea 00:02:31.75\00:02:37.55 and varicose veins. That's why I'm here and I just want to 00:02:37.59\00:02:43.39 honor God. 00:02:43.43\00:02:47.43 Welcome back friends. Hi Robin. Hi Ron. 00:02:47.46\00:02:50.20 Thank you for being here. We appreciate your willingness just 00:02:50.23\00:02:54.40 to open up to the world. Tell us a little bit about yourself. 00:02:54.44\00:02:58.84 We know what you were looking for when you arrived because we 00:02:58.87\00:03:03.98 just witnessed that. However, has the program met up to your 00:03:04.01\00:03:09.08 expectations? 00:03:09.12\00:03:10.45 Well when I came here I had very high expectations and I realize 00:03:10.49\00:03:15.76 that's part of my personality, and they were probably too high. 00:03:15.79\00:03:21.63 But everything that needed to be received I have received here 00:03:21.66\00:03:27.37 and I have enjoyed every moment. I have loved it. In fact, a hate 00:03:27.40\00:03:33.51 to leave. We had a group meeting one day and someone called out 00:03:33.54\00:03:38.55 how many of you want to go home? And no hands went up because 00:03:38.58\00:03:45.19 we've gained so much camaraderie here and love that it's been 00:03:45.25\00:03:51.83 very special. 00:03:51.86\00:03:53.19 So let me ask you a question now We know one of the reasons you 00:03:53.23\00:03:58.13 came here was to lose weight. Sometimes people are discouraged 00:03:58.17\00:04:02.77 because they don't lose enough weight. But let me tell you what 00:04:02.80\00:04:07.71 happens here when we lose weight We gain muscle at the same time 00:04:07.74\00:04:12.65 because now we're using our body in ways that we haven't for 00:04:12.68\00:04:17.55 years. We're walking the half mile loop. We're walking, 00:04:17.59\00:04:22.59 several people eight, 10 miles in a day. So you may lose 20 00:04:22.62\00:04:27.56 pounds of excess weight, or fat, but gain 10 pounds of muscle at 00:04:27.60\00:04:34.37 the same time so do not be discouraged because maybe you 00:04:34.40\00:04:40.01 didn't lose all the weight you wanted to. So how much weight 00:04:40.04\00:04:45.61 have you lost? 00:04:45.65\00:04:46.98 Well I lost 10 pounds. I was kind of aiming toward 20 but 00:04:47.02\00:04:50.99 when the doctor, we talked about my knees; I have like bone 00:04:51.02\00:04:56.39 on bone in some places on both of them. He said take it easy. 00:04:56.42\00:05:01.73 don't push too hard. We don't want any injuries. 00:05:01.76\00:05:04.73 Who's you doctor? 00:05:04.77\00:05:06.10 Dr. Lukens. 00:05:06.13\00:05:07.47 Dr. Lukens, oh good, good. 00:05:07.50\00:05:08.84 I really appreciated his caution because I tend to push hard. So 00:05:08.87\00:05:11.91 I appreciated that. 00:05:11.94\00:05:15.31 Well you know because this is a life style, you will eventually 00:05:15.34\00:05:20.38 lose that 20 and 30 and 40 and whatever number it is that you 00:05:20.42\00:05:25.59 want to get to. Because you've taught your body a new way of 00:05:25.65\00:05:30.83 life. 00:05:30.86\00:05:32.19 That's right. 00:05:32.23\00:05:33.80 And the rest is... 00:05:33.83\00:05:35.16 I think I've finally come to a decision that life isn't a 00:05:35.20\00:05:38.40 marathon, it's a walk. And it's a walk with Jesus beside you. 00:05:38.43\00:05:42.67 Amen. And so I've lost the same 50 pounds a number of times, 00:05:42.70\00:05:47.51 and then gained a little more each time afterward. So I want 00:05:47.54\00:05:52.28 this to be a lifestyle this time, you know, and I have 00:05:52.31\00:05:56.28 learned that here. 00:05:56.32\00:05:57.65 Good. Now what about blood pressure? How's your blood 00:05:57.89\00:06:00.86 pressure? 00:06:00.89\00:06:02.22 Well, I have a stubborn blood pressure. It's gone down a 00:06:02.26\00:06:04.46 little bit. But I'm not discouraged. I'm not on any 00:06:04.49\00:06:10.10 medication and it'll come down as I lose weight. 00:06:10.13\00:06:13.70 Good. Any other things that you'd like to share? 00:06:13.74\00:06:17.24 Yes I came with neuropathy and a lot of pins and needles in my 00:06:17.27\00:06:24.78 feet and pain. Walking was painful and I lost my balance a 00:06:24.81\00:06:32.29 lot. That's, I'd say, 90 per cent better. 00:06:32.35\00:06:36.32 Wow! That is wonderful. 00:06:36.36\00:06:40.00 And I've regained my balance and I don't feel so old. 00:06:40.03\00:06:45.27 (Laughs) Yeah I can relate. 00:06:45.33\00:06:47.67 So what did you like the most about your 17 days here. 00:06:47.70\00:06:56.71 The Christ-like staff. It's just amazing. I mean every person I 00:06:56.75\00:07:04.92 met here was so loving and so Christ-like. You just felt like 00:07:04.95\00:07:11.53 family almost immediately. And with all of us that came here 00:07:11.59\00:07:18.13 all in need, they just ministered to us beautifully. 00:07:18.17\00:07:23.17 I'm going to hate to say goodbye. 00:07:23.20\00:07:27.24 Did you have one-on-one with our chaplain? 00:07:27.28\00:07:32.11 Yes I did, yes I did. What I appreciated the very most about 00:07:32.15\00:07:37.12 him was that he was so honest, so very dead honest about the 00:07:37.15\00:07:42.12 struggles he had had and it helped us all to be able to 00:07:42.16\00:07:46.03 relate to the struggles we have and that our victory is in 00:07:46.06\00:07:49.90 Christ. 00:07:49.93\00:07:51.27 Amen, amen. He's a wonderful guy. I have Bible study with him 00:07:51.30\00:07:54.84 on Friday mornings and I can hardly wait because every week 00:07:54.90\00:07:58.77 I learn so much. 00:07:58.81\00:08:00.88 Yeah, he's very deep. 00:08:00.94\00:08:02.28 Very, very deep. So how did you relate to the food. Was there a 00:08:02.31\00:08:08.78 big change in food. No there wasn't a big change for me but 00:08:08.85\00:08:14.82 one thing was more beans than I've been eating before and I 00:08:14.86\00:08:20.96 I was never hungry. We had two meals a day here and I was never 00:08:21.00\00:08:27.10 hungry. It was very satisfying. 00:08:27.14\00:08:29.07 Because you were eating the right foods. 00:08:29.10\00:08:30.44 Yeah, eating the right foods. 00:08:30.47\00:08:31.81 OK. Did you attend the cooking classes? 00:08:31.84\00:08:34.78 Yes, and I loved them. Yes. 00:08:34.81\00:08:37.18 Isn't Michelle wonderful. 00:08:37.21\00:08:39.51 Oh Michelle is wonderful. She has so much energy. 00:08:39.55\00:08:41.58 I know. You know she came through the program. Did she 00:08:41.62\00:08:46.15 show you? Yes. She came through and she lost a lot of weight. 00:08:46.19\00:08:50.83 Ah, it's wonderful. Yeah she's beautiful. 00:08:50.86\00:08:53.56 She's a beautiful girl, yes she definitely is. So we're going to 00:08:53.60\00:08:58.47 miss you here. 00:08:58.50\00:08:59.83 I'm going to miss everyone here too. I wish I could just package 00:08:59.87\00:09:02.20 everybody up and take them home with me. 00:09:02.24\00:09:03.74 Lot of people say they want to take Michelle home, you know, a 00:09:03.77\00:09:09.14 chef, have someone cooking their meals. But you know we will be 00:09:09.21\00:09:14.55 in touch and you please keep in touch with us. 00:09:14.58\00:09:18.82 I want to thank you for taking the time and being with us and 00:09:18.85\00:09:25.39 being willing to share. And God bless you. We'll be in touch. 00:09:25.43\00:09:31.97 Friends don't go away. But before we cut I want to thank 00:09:32.00\00:09:37.67 each of you who have sent us e- mail and letters and donations 00:09:37.71\00:09:43.18 We really appreciate that. That helps us stay on the air. Don't 00:09:43.21\00:09:48.65 go away because Damon Snead, Pastor Damon Snead, 00:09:48.68\00:09:52.15 is up next. 00:09:52.22\00:09:53.56 Every year in America there are over one million deaths because 00:09:55.62\00:09:58.29 of type diabetes and chronic obesity. This includes heart 00:09:58.33\00:10:02.10 attacks and strokes. That's six and a half 747s crashing 00:10:02.13\00:10:05.77 every day. What's even more surprising is that the fix is 00:10:05.80\00:10:09.80 easy. It's your life style. Wouldn't it be nice if you could 00:10:09.84\00:10:13.58 actually add quality years to your life rather than dying one 00:10:13.61\00:10:16.88 organ at a time. Obesity and diabetes are the cause of over 00:10:16.91\00:10:20.12 a million deaths per year. Most diseases are reversible, because 00:10:20.15\00:10:24.69 most diseases are life-style diseases, especially type II 00:10:24.72\00:10:28.96 and chronic obesity. Seriously now, they can be reversed and 00:10:28.99\00:10:33.60 the quality of your life can be renewed. Call NEWSTART today at 00:10:33.63\00:10:38.23 1-800-525-9192. The NEWSTART programs are 00:10:47.81\00:10:52.15 simple and effective. 00:10:52.18\00:10:56.28 Welcome back friends. Pastor Damon, good to see you brother. 00:10:56.32\00:11:00.96 Thank you friend. 00:11:00.99\00:11:02.72 Now I want to talk about Robin. Now here's a woman that when she 00:11:02.76\00:11:08.70 first got here, she comes across to me somewhat humble. I don't 00:11:08.73\00:11:14.64 know how she was with you. It seems as though she had some 00:11:14.67\00:11:21.21 serious issues that she shared. How she do on your one-on-one? 00:11:21.24\00:11:26.88 Well she is humble and she is very, I hate to use the word 00:11:26.92\00:11:32.49 pious, for lack of a better term She's a very spiritual, loving, 00:11:32.55\00:11:36.59 kind woman. Yeah. That came across really clear, she's very 00:11:36.62\00:11:41.36 dedicated to serving God, but as we spent time together, you 00:11:41.40\00:11:46.33 know, I learned some terrible childhood traumas she's got some 00:11:46.37\00:11:51.24 PTSD, a lot of stress and anxiety which is typical with 00:11:51.27\00:11:56.61 someone like this. She told me she said my eating, my health 00:11:56.64\00:12:01.35 and lifestyle is stress related. It was spiritually related. 00:12:01.38\00:12:06.05 It was not being able to synthesize those things of 00:12:06.09\00:12:10.06 childhood that had manifested themselves later in adulthood 00:12:10.99\00:12:14.70 which causes all the terrible lifestyle choices that brought 00:12:14.73\00:12:18.40 her to this position that she's in. 00:12:18.43\00:12:20.47 So the eating, is that like comforting food. 00:12:20.54\00:12:23.91 Yeah, a lot of people do that. I do that. If I get stressed out 00:12:23.94\00:12:28.24 that is, used to be, anyway one of my go to's. Stress, anxiety, 00:12:28.28\00:12:32.61 depression, discouragement; food is a comfort. And if you've got 00:12:32.65\00:12:36.99 things in the past that you can't get a hold of that can be 00:12:37.02\00:12:41.39 a perpetual thing that you don't even realize what's behind 00:12:41.42\00:12:45.49 what's driving that issue, is something that only God can take 00:12:45.53\00:12:49.56 care of. Especially when you get to that age where she is, 00:12:49.60\00:12:53.57 the people, the situations, are so far in the past you really 00:12:53.64\00:12:57.57 can't rectify them anymore but by spiritual means. 00:12:57.61\00:13:00.78 Well as I see her going through the program, as we've talked in 00:13:00.81\00:13:06.98 last couple of weeks, she seems to be dealing with whatever 00:13:07.02\00:13:12.25 issues, and I know a lot of them are private, you don't need to 00:13:12.29\00:13:17.46 reveal. I understand though that she's doing well. 00:13:17.49\00:13:22.63 Yeah. You know one thing that she told me in our counseling 00:13:22.66\00:13:26.03 session, there were two things. She wants to be a servant to God 00:13:26.07\00:13:30.24 and she wants to be a good grandmother. She wants to be 00:13:30.31\00:13:33.81 there for her family. So she knows she's making this step 00:13:33.84\00:13:38.81 really not just for herself but for God and for family. She 00:13:38.85\00:13:43.35 wants to be around to be vibrant she wants to be relative and 00:13:43.39\00:13:47.39 that is such a great decision that you can do, a selfless 00:13:47.42\00:13:51.26 decision, because when you check out of this world early for 00:13:51.29\00:13:54.00 lifestyle issues, your selfish, because you hurt people all 00:13:54.03\00:13:56.70 around you. So to come here and go through this program and make 00:13:56.73\00:14:02.54 these changes for people that you love is just a selfless, 00:14:02.57\00:14:05.81 wonderful thing that you could do. 00:14:05.84\00:14:07.18 We ought to follow up on her. 00:14:07.21\00:14:08.91 Yeah, yeah. 00:14:08.94\00:14:10.28 and keep after her. I know that everyone needs encouragement 00:14:10.31\00:14:15.55 and maybe a reconnection with the NEWSTART program. We to her 00:14:15.58\00:14:21.86 represent NEWSTART although it's not about you and I but we are 00:14:21.89\00:14:26.49 representatives, so it would to give her a plug now and then. 00:14:26.53\00:14:31.07 So were you satisfied with the outcomes with her? 00:14:31.10\00:14:38.11 Yes, because she primarily got the spiritual side of it. If you 00:14:38.17\00:14:42.58 get that the health will follow. If you know God can help me if 00:14:42.61\00:14:46.98 I surrender. If I keep getting back up on my feet when I mess 00:14:47.05\00:14:51.65 up, and turn back to God and say God forgive me for that but help 00:14:51.69\00:14:56.02 he's not going to fail you. If you get that combined with some 00:14:56.06\00:15:00.36 good old human effort you're going to make it and she will, 00:15:00.40\00:15:04.63 she's going to do good. 00:15:04.67\00:15:06.00 Amen, amen. It's good to hear you say that because I feel that 00:15:06.03\00:15:10.11 You know when I'm down and out, about an hour ago I was in the 00:15:10.17\00:15:15.21 very same situation. All I did was pray and immediately I 00:15:15.24\00:15:19.91 started to feel better. 00:15:19.95\00:15:22.22 That's the only way. You can hang onto it and drag you down 00:15:22.25\00:15:25.32 or you can say God you know I didn't mean that, let me ask and 00:15:25.35\00:15:28.36 he will help you. 00:15:28.39\00:15:29.72 Yeah, I wanted to buy a chocolate bar, but there was 00:15:29.76\00:15:31.09 nowhere to find one. One with peanuts. I love chocolate. Oh 00:15:31.13\00:15:37.30 my goodness. Well Damon, you know, I know you're a busy guy 00:15:37.33\00:15:42.30 and you take your time to come over here and visit with us and 00:15:42.34\00:15:46.31 being through these interviews and I want to thank you. God 00:15:46.37\00:15:51.48 bless you brother. Friends don't go away. We'll be right 00:15:51.51\00:15:56.58 Welcome back friends. Dr. Lukens 00:15:56.62\00:16:02.59 Glad you are here. Glad to see you. 00:16:02.62\00:16:08.53 After all these years to see so many people have miracles done. 00:16:08.56\00:16:14.60 That's why I'm still here. 00:16:14.64\00:16:19.34 How many years has it been? Twenty-eight? 00:16:19.37\00:16:21.01 Yeah. 00:16:21.04\00:16:22.38 Wow! Congratulations! With regards to Robin I've got to say 00:16:22.41\00:16:28.68 this. A lot of times people come here. They don't do as well as 00:16:28.72\00:16:34.26 maybe someone who's here with them and yet they don't do as 00:16:34.29\00:16:39.56 well as the next guy. So we have varying degrees of success. 00:16:39.59\00:16:45.93 Would it be fair to say that if people came here and learned 00:16:45.97\00:16:51.61 what we do, learned the program and stuck with it, they're going 00:16:51.64\00:16:57.25 get healthier? Is that a fair statement? 00:16:57.28\00:16:59.91 That's a perfect statement. 00:16:59.95\00:17:02.02 OK, well it doesn't get any better than perfect. 00:17:02.08\00:17:07.36 You know, the thing is that people see these interviews, 00:17:07.42\00:17:11.16 New start Now and in their mind somebody says well I saw one 00:17:11.19\00:17:19.03 where a person lost 30 pounds in 18 days. I'd like the 20 00:17:19.07\00:17:26.84 pounds that I gained over the holidays, I'd like those to fade 00:17:26.88\00:17:31.21 away so I'm going to go to NEWSTART. I have to keep telling 00:17:31.25\00:17:35.88 people because... This was a four week program just before I 00:17:35.92\00:17:41.09 came and one lady lost four dress sizes in the 26 days and 00:17:41.12\00:17:46.16 her weight was exactly the same. I had to talk to her like a 00:17:46.19\00:17:51.20 Dutch uncle because she said I'm bummed out, you know. 00:17:51.23\00:17:55.84 Well why? And she says because my friends are going to ask me 00:17:57.31\00:18:01.91 how much weight did you lose and I'll have to... I would have 00:18:01.94\00:18:07.48 told her just take your dress and say who do I look. Then 00:18:07.52\00:18:11.95 other people I think most we've ever seen a cholesterol drop 00:18:11.99\00:18:18.29 was somebody that had severe high cholesterol like 1250. Wow! 00:18:18.33\00:18:22.93 And his mother sent him here and he was joking around the whole 00:18:22.96\00:18:27.47 time and not really with the program. But at the end of the 00:18:27.54\00:18:32.67 program because of the way his liver was reacting and so forth 00:18:32.71\00:18:37.85 his cholesterol went down to the high 300s. Wow! And I'm 00:18:37.88\00:18:43.18 thinking why would a person ever do anything different even if 00:18:43.22\00:18:47.12 they just thought it was crazy. Now with Robin, she came here 00:18:47.16\00:18:50.79 because they told her that she had heart disease, she had 00:18:50.83\00:18:56.36 diabetes, but neither one of those really fit into the 00:18:56.40\00:19:01.84 scenario. She did have the high cholesterol. We took her off the 00:19:01.90\00:19:07.11 Statin. I wanted her off the Statin so that she could find 00:19:07.14\00:19:11.35 out what is my cholesterol really because the Statins were 00:19:11.41\00:19:15.12 lower the cholesterol but they don't increase your life 00:19:15.15\00:19:18.82 expectancy or you're the way you get around and so forth. So it's 00:19:18.85\00:19:24.03 all a matter of lifestyle and I'm so happy that the Bible is 00:19:24.06\00:19:28.46 filled with what we call the eight natural remedies, one of 00:19:28.50\00:19:33.84 them is supernatural. People just get that. And then I have 00:19:33.87\00:19:39.57 to tell the women too, I try to tell them at the beginning and 00:19:39.61\00:19:45.11 middle or something in the session. Dr. Crane, when he was 00:19:45.15\00:19:49.82 doing research here, four women out of 10 women, their 00:19:49.88\00:19:54.49 cholesterol will stay the same. It'll go up while they're here. 00:19:54.52\00:19:59.86 Wow! And if you tell them that after they see their cholesterol 00:19:59.89\00:20:04.20 has gone up they'll say hey they're just shining me on, but 00:20:04.23\00:20:08.77 it's true. Actually that's not a lie but it's very close. It's 00:20:08.80\00:20:13.27 37 percent, but that's very close to four out of 10, so 00:20:13.31\00:20:18.48 that's easy to do. So the thing is in journaling to fill out the 00:20:18.51\00:20:27.16 NEWSTART calendar and we see people one of the first one's 00:20:27.19\00:20:31.59 that I saw when I was here, he was supposed to be dead in six 00:20:31.63\00:20:35.96 months and he got another 14 years. 00:20:36.00\00:20:40.64 Fourteen years! Yeah. Well we see over and over again people 00:20:40.67\00:20:43.41 that are dying and they wait to the last minute and come 00:20:43.47\00:20:48.71 here. But with Robin, now we didn't see a lot of evidence of 00:20:48.74\00:20:53.62 much change with her and this is the kind of individual that 00:20:53.68\00:20:58.35 I'm talking about that sticks to the program and all of a sudden 00:20:58.39\00:21:03.06 it just starts peeling off. She starts getting stronger and 00:21:03.09\00:21:07.80 change happens. 00:21:07.83\00:21:09.60 Yeah. In fact, people that are really overweight, they may be 00:21:09.63\00:21:14.70 totally on the program, and we've seen this, for six months 00:21:14.74\00:21:19.77 or 12 months and their cholesterol stays the same 00:21:19.81\00:21:21.61 they're on the strictest, strictest and then suddenly when 00:21:21.64\00:21:28.82 they've lost the weight and they're stabilized, their 00:21:28.85\00:21:34.19 cholesterol's down. Some of the people that have lived here had 00:21:34.22\00:21:38.29 heart disease and they more recently done angiograms on them 00:21:38.33\00:21:42.40 arteries are completely clear. 00:21:42.43\00:21:45.17 Oh that's wonderful. You know I don't know where the time goes 00:21:45.20\00:21:48.04 but we're running out of time. But I did want to take a moment 00:21:48.10\00:21:52.14 and just thank you because I know you're a busy man. And God 00:21:52.17\00:21:56.18 bless you. 00:21:56.21\00:21:57.55 And I'm glad you're doing well. 00:21:57.58\00:21:58.91 Yes, thank you. Don't go away friends. We'll be right back. 00:21:58.95\00:22:01.78 ¤ ¤ 00:22:01.82\00:22:37.25 Welcome to Weimar College Update. Many people are not 00:22:37.29\00:22:43.86 aware that Weimar has a full higher education institution 00:22:43.89\00:22:49.86 that is getting a lot of recognition around the world. 00:22:49.90\00:22:53.87 Weimar has a premed program where you have the highest 00:22:53.90\00:22:57.37 chance of getting into a U.S. medical school and publishing in 00:22:57.41\00:23:00.84 the peer review literature. We also have a nursing program that 00:23:00.88\00:23:05.51 is a nursing program that's far beyond the just the regular 00:23:05.58\00:23:10.19 nursing program where you also have training in the spiritual 00:23:10.22\00:23:15.02 part and how to take people from health to him as well as 00:23:15.06\00:23:19.79 training in the natural remedies including nutrition and other 00:23:19.83\00:23:24.73 types of natural remedies. We also have a theology pastoral 00:23:24.77\00:23:28.34 program where the pastor comes out as a head of a medical 00:23:28.40\00:23:32.81 missionary program or a church that's going to emphasize 00:23:32.84\00:23:37.18 medical missionary work. We also have a business program that 00:23:37.21\00:23:42.75 particularly emphasizes health care administration and a 00:23:42.78\00:23:47.16 Bachelors of Business that can also have a leadership track. 00:23:47.19\00:23:51.79 But one of the new things at Weimar Institute is a program 00:23:51.83\00:23:56.06 that's going to combine several things. One of our professors 00:23:56.10\00:24:01.04 who has been teaching here this semester and doing a great job 00:24:01.10\00:24:05.57 particularly in the psychology side of things is Dr. Melissa 00:24:05.61\00:24:10.21 Dalsich Garcia. Dr. Melissa we're really glad to have you 00:24:10.25\00:24:14.78 here today. 00:24:14.82\00:24:16.15 Thank you, I'm glad to be here. 00:24:16.18\00:24:17.52 Well tell us first of all what you're doing at Weimar Institute 00:24:17.55\00:24:19.95 now and where the plans are going with it. 00:24:19.99\00:24:22.02 Well I teach the psychology classes, which is my area, 00:24:22.06\00:24:26.06 that's what my PhD is in. My goal is to prepare these 00:24:26.09\00:24:30.03 students for a career to really approach mental health with a 00:24:30.07\00:24:35.54 Christian perspective to help win that battle against the evil 00:24:35.57\00:24:39.94 that is out there in the world. So we're trying to get some of 00:24:39.97\00:24:44.31 the core psychology classes in such a very Christian and 00:24:44.35\00:24:48.15 Biblical way that these professionals, these young 00:24:48.18\00:24:52.29 people go out as professionals to fight the Lord's battles. 00:24:52.35\00:24:56.06 Mental illness is at an all time high in our society today and 00:24:56.09\00:24:59.79 one of the reasons is because spirituality is at an all time 00:24:59.83\00:25:03.47 low. Yes. We're actually finding out solid Biblical principles 00:25:03.53\00:25:08.50 can actually help mental health and Dr. Melissa I know you 00:25:08.54\00:25:11.74 incorporate those principles along with the research behind 00:25:11.77\00:25:14.91 it in your courses, things that you don't really get very easily 00:25:14.94\00:25:19.81 any other place besides Weimar Institute. 00:25:19.85\00:25:23.28 So tell us a little bit about this new developing program. 00:25:23.32\00:25:27.96 Well this new program is liberal arts emphasis. We're trying to 00:25:27.99\00:25:33.09 create a degree that will give some flexibility and prepare 00:25:33.16\00:25:37.73 students for graduate programs so they can go on and be 00:25:37.77\00:25:42.24 successful, again, from a very Biblical perspective. So it is 00:25:42.30\00:25:47.68 an emphasis in core areas and you can choose either a 00:25:47.71\00:25:50.45 psychology emphasis which will prepare you to go on to get a 00:25:50.51\00:25:54.92 master's degree in counseling and get licensed to practice 00:25:54.98\00:25:58.02 therapy You can choose a Christian education emphasis 00:25:58.05\00:26:02.79 which will prepare them for a career in SDA education with 00:26:02.82\00:26:07.23 preparation to go on to get state licensure if they so choose. And they can 00:26:07.26\00:26:10.90 also take a music concentration. Once again, it's going to 00:26:10.93\00:26:14.54 prepare them for graduate programs in music. 00:26:14.57\00:26:18.37 Music can be one of the therapeutic principles that can 00:26:18.44\00:26:21.08 help balance the mind. 00:26:21.11\00:26:22.44 Indeed it can and one of the professors here, Wenda Nasie, 00:26:22.48\00:26:26.48 is very excited about the potential for combining some 00:26:26.51\00:26:30.89 of these concentrations as well. 00:26:30.92\00:26:34.22 OK, so an emphasis in psychology education and music. Could you 00:26:34.26\00:26:39.83 potentially emphasize all three of those if you were so inclined 00:26:39.86\00:26:45.40 You could. The degree is designed to be somewhat flexible 00:26:45.43\00:26:50.17 so you're going to possibly declare both a major and a 00:26:50.21\00:26:53.98 minor, or to majors at the very least. The rest would be filled 00:26:54.01\00:26:57.95 up with electives. So you could also tailor it if you very 00:26:57.98\00:27:02.35 theology and want to do a counseling degree and have that 00:27:02.38\00:27:06.42 nice background solid foundation You can take extra religion 00:27:06.45\00:27:09.72 classes or the same thing if you want to focus on education in 00:27:09.76\00:27:12.89 religion, this would be part of the electives. The concentration 00:27:12.93\00:27:16.00 though you feasibly could two at least of those major 00:27:16.03\00:27:20.17 concentrations and combine education and psychology which 00:27:20.24\00:27:23.10 would be a very good practice for those wanting to be school 00:27:23.14\00:27:27.08 psychologists as well. So music and education, those would go 00:27:27.11\00:27:30.75 hand in hand if somebody wants to teach at the elementary level 00:27:30.78\00:27:34.38 for music and music and psychology go together as well. 00:27:34.42\00:27:39.02 Well this sounds very exciting and I'm glad Weimar Institute 00:27:39.05\00:27:43.63 is expanding in these lines. Contact us at Weimar College if 00:27:43.66\00:27:47.53 you're interested in this new approach or this new degree 00:27:47.56\00:27:51.30 program or any of our other degree programs at Weimar 00:27:51.33\00:27:55.00 College. Thank you for joining us at Weimar College update. 00:27:55.04\00:27:58.94 ¤ ¤ 00:27:58.97\00:28:20.56
