Hi, friends, and welcome to another edition 00:01:12.87\00:01:15.00 of NEWSTART Now. 00:01:15.04\00:01:16.81 I'm your host Ron Giannoni. 00:01:16.84\00:01:19.74 And we have a special interview this morning with Mary Garcia 00:01:19.77\00:01:24.08 from North Highlands, 00:01:24.11\00:01:26.28 here a local in Sacramento area. 00:01:26.31\00:01:29.78 She's come here fighting cancer, 00:01:29.82\00:01:33.12 and I'd like you to take a look at 00:01:33.15\00:01:34.72 when she first arrived. 00:01:34.76\00:01:36.22 I'm here because I have cancer. 00:01:39.23\00:01:41.60 And I've had an operation, 00:01:41.63\00:01:43.77 and they want to do another operation. 00:01:43.80\00:01:45.53 And I would like to find out what I'm doing wrong 00:01:45.57\00:01:49.20 to be able to correct that 00:01:49.24\00:01:50.57 and possibly avoid the second operation. 00:01:50.61\00:01:53.44 So I know that 00:01:53.48\00:01:55.28 there's something I'm doing right, 00:01:55.31\00:01:56.64 but there's still something missing. 00:01:56.68\00:01:59.85 And I guess the Lord has led me up to this point, 00:01:59.88\00:02:02.48 and He's going to get me through it. 00:02:02.52\00:02:04.39 The doctors when I came out of the first operation 00:02:04.42\00:02:07.69 were surprised. 00:02:07.72\00:02:09.09 They said, "You don't even look like 00:02:09.12\00:02:11.26 you've had an operation." 00:02:11.29\00:02:12.63 That was just right after my operation. 00:02:12.66\00:02:15.66 And when I woke up and they said, 00:02:15.70\00:02:18.17 "You don't look like you had an operation." 00:02:18.20\00:02:20.47 The nurses said the same thing, friends said the same thing, 00:02:20.50\00:02:23.54 people in church said the same thing. 00:02:23.57\00:02:25.97 I would like to see my cancer reversed. 00:02:26.01\00:02:28.01 Welcome back, friends. Mary, how are you, dear? 00:02:30.98\00:02:33.98 I'm well. 00:02:34.02\00:02:35.42 Good to see you. Good to see you too. 00:02:35.45\00:02:37.52 Yeah, and it's good to talk to you 00:02:37.55\00:02:39.19 about what's going on here. 00:02:39.22\00:02:41.39 You know, when you first arrived, 00:02:41.42\00:02:43.06 we did an interview and you were sharing with us 00:02:43.09\00:02:46.49 about your situation with cancer 00:02:46.53\00:02:48.50 and the surgery that's a couple weeks out. 00:02:48.53\00:02:52.53 But tell us why would you choose 00:02:52.57\00:02:56.00 to come to a lifestyle center before a surgery? 00:02:56.04\00:03:00.21 Well, I previously had a surgery 00:03:00.24\00:03:02.98 on another cancer tumor, 00:03:03.01\00:03:06.31 and before I did, I had started on my own 00:03:06.35\00:03:09.25 what I had read trying to build up my immune system. 00:03:09.28\00:03:12.65 But in this, and this is my second surgery, 00:03:12.69\00:03:15.62 I feel that I needed it even more 00:03:15.66\00:03:17.43 because the other one was in June 00:03:17.46\00:03:20.20 and that wasn't that far away. 00:03:20.23\00:03:22.30 And so I needed to really get built up 00:03:22.33\00:03:24.63 and get my strength going 00:03:24.67\00:03:26.10 so that when I do come into recovery again, 00:03:26.13\00:03:28.84 it will be fast and like it was the first time. 00:03:28.87\00:03:31.74 But, you know, the surgeries do take their toll. 00:03:31.77\00:03:34.98 Yes. 00:03:35.01\00:03:36.34 So it's a necessary this time. 00:03:36.38\00:03:38.75 And you're going to be better equipped now. 00:03:38.78\00:03:40.58 Yes, I am. 00:03:40.62\00:03:41.95 Because you've learned about some new tools, 00:03:41.98\00:03:45.95 if you will, 00:03:45.99\00:03:47.32 on how to strengthen the immune system, 00:03:47.36\00:03:50.53 how to build it up, 00:03:50.56\00:03:52.56 and so your fighter cells, if you will, 00:03:52.59\00:03:56.83 can easily fight the cancer. 00:03:56.87\00:03:59.53 Correct. Right? 00:03:59.57\00:04:00.90 Yes. 00:04:00.94\00:04:02.27 And what are some of the things you learned? 00:04:02.30\00:04:03.64 Oh, there are so many things. 00:04:03.67\00:04:05.91 The diet, the exercise, 00:04:05.94\00:04:07.84 it's all good. 00:04:07.88\00:04:09.48 One of the things... 00:04:09.51\00:04:10.85 I love beans and that's what is on this diet. 00:04:10.88\00:04:13.38 And I'm going to keep on eating my beans. 00:04:13.42\00:04:15.35 Love beans. 00:04:15.38\00:04:16.72 I'm glad they're not taking them out. 00:04:16.75\00:04:19.32 They wouldn't because you're from Hispanic background? 00:04:19.35\00:04:21.39 Oh, no. Oh, no, no not all. 00:04:21.42\00:04:23.69 Well, Italian and I love beans too. 00:04:23.73\00:04:25.76 So I don't know what that has to do with it. 00:04:25.79\00:04:27.90 Nonetheless, what about the hydro? 00:04:27.93\00:04:30.63 The hydro cold? 00:04:30.67\00:04:32.03 I had the fever baths. 00:04:32.07\00:04:34.57 Oh, you did? Yes, I had eight. 00:04:34.60\00:04:36.20 Better, yeah. 00:04:36.24\00:04:37.57 Today will be my eighth fever bath. 00:04:37.61\00:04:39.37 Explain to our viewers what is a fever treatment 00:04:39.41\00:04:44.65 and what it accomplishes. 00:04:44.68\00:04:47.38 The fever bath is to cause 00:04:47.42\00:04:49.65 my white blood cells to come out, 00:04:49.68\00:04:52.42 they're my firefighters, and they'll come out 00:04:52.45\00:04:54.52 and start attacking the cancer. 00:04:54.56\00:04:56.42 And so that's the purpose of taking this type of bath. 00:04:56.46\00:04:59.96 And in this bath, it's a big tub. 00:05:00.00\00:05:02.86 To me, it was like a horse trough. 00:05:02.90\00:05:05.90 It looked like a horse trough. Yes, it does. 00:05:05.93\00:05:08.27 And you get submerged in hot water at 110 degrees. 00:05:08.30\00:05:12.11 And your temperature is slowly brought up 00:05:12.14\00:05:15.28 between 102 and 103. 00:05:15.31\00:05:17.68 And it is kept there for about 20 minutes, 00:05:17.71\00:05:20.12 and then you're slowly taken back down. 00:05:20.15\00:05:21.95 So the whole process 00:05:21.98\00:05:23.32 is about 45 minutes to an hour long. 00:05:23.35\00:05:27.99 And they're putting ice packs on your head 00:05:28.02\00:05:30.86 because your brain is very, can be damaged by the heat. 00:05:30.89\00:05:34.13 Right. 00:05:34.16\00:05:35.50 So it keeps your brain cool, so you don't get 00:05:35.53\00:05:38.20 any damage to your brain. 00:05:38.23\00:05:39.77 And the rest of you is submerged in the hot water 00:05:39.80\00:05:42.04 and they keep putting hot packs, 00:05:42.07\00:05:44.97 cool packs with ice on your head. 00:05:45.01\00:05:47.28 And they keep blotting your face 00:05:47.31\00:05:48.71 'cause you're always sweating. 00:05:48.74\00:05:50.08 Yes. 00:05:50.11\00:05:51.65 And my technician, her name is April, 00:05:51.68\00:05:56.58 she was very nice, 00:05:56.62\00:05:58.15 we were joking around all the time. 00:05:58.19\00:05:59.82 She's the best. Yes. 00:05:59.85\00:06:01.72 So we enjoyed each other's company. 00:06:01.76\00:06:03.43 You know, we may call you up if we need an extra therapist 00:06:03.46\00:06:07.53 for fever treatments. 00:06:07.56\00:06:08.90 Okay. 00:06:08.93\00:06:10.27 Now I've done them as well for our guest. 00:06:10.30\00:06:13.77 You just described it so accurately, 00:06:13.80\00:06:17.44 and where the blessing for me 00:06:17.47\00:06:19.14 comes is you know these things, 00:06:19.17\00:06:21.18 and you've shown or told our viewers. 00:06:21.21\00:06:24.11 There are people out there 00:06:24.15\00:06:25.48 who know nothing about fighter cells 00:06:25.51\00:06:28.35 that can fight cancers and how to build the immune system 00:06:28.38\00:06:32.39 through fever treatments. 00:06:32.42\00:06:34.32 So this isn't the only place you can get a fever treatment, 00:06:34.36\00:06:37.83 but if you're wise, you come here and get them. 00:06:37.86\00:06:41.43 I'm going to return. 00:06:41.46\00:06:42.80 Yes, I know you are. 00:06:42.83\00:06:44.17 And I'm going to have to make an appointment for that 00:06:44.20\00:06:46.43 and come back. 00:06:46.47\00:06:47.90 And I'm also planning on coming to the alumni meals. 00:06:47.94\00:06:50.81 Oh, awesome. 00:06:50.84\00:06:52.17 That's now like the second week of the session I believe. 00:06:52.21\00:06:56.54 Yes. 00:06:56.58\00:06:57.91 Wednesday. 00:06:57.95\00:06:59.28 We'll look forward to it. 00:06:59.31\00:07:00.65 You're going to have a lot to share with us. 00:07:00.68\00:07:02.78 You have such a wonderful smile. 00:07:02.82\00:07:04.49 How come you're always happy? 00:07:04.52\00:07:05.92 Oh, it's the Lord. 00:07:05.95\00:07:08.49 That has nothing to do with me, 00:07:08.52\00:07:09.86 it's all Him. 00:07:09.89\00:07:12.43 Another good answer. 00:07:12.46\00:07:14.76 So your overall experience, how was that? 00:07:14.80\00:07:17.73 Very good. I liked it here. 00:07:17.77\00:07:19.23 It's just beautiful. 00:07:19.27\00:07:20.67 I love the country. 00:07:20.70\00:07:22.80 Being able to walk out here in the country, in the woods, 00:07:22.84\00:07:25.01 and it's just gorgeous here. 00:07:25.04\00:07:27.01 The sunsets, the dawn of the morning, 00:07:27.04\00:07:29.78 it's just beautiful. 00:07:29.81\00:07:31.15 So you get lots of pure fresh air here. 00:07:31.18\00:07:34.45 Yes. 00:07:34.48\00:07:36.05 What about our chaplain? 00:07:36.08\00:07:37.89 What did you think of his services here? 00:07:37.92\00:07:39.92 Oh, those were good. I liked it. 00:07:39.95\00:07:41.82 I always enjoyed the fresh start services 00:07:41.86\00:07:43.69 that he directed in the morning. 00:07:43.73\00:07:45.59 They were very good. 00:07:45.63\00:07:46.96 And Irwin also did beautiful music 00:07:47.00\00:07:48.83 in the morning for us too. 00:07:48.86\00:07:50.20 Yes. 00:07:50.23\00:07:51.57 So music and the Word of the Lord 00:07:51.60\00:07:52.93 being opened up to us really is a good way to start the day. 00:07:52.97\00:07:55.64 It's an awesome way. I'd like to continue that. 00:07:55.67\00:07:59.14 Now when you get home, 00:07:59.17\00:08:01.18 what will you continue? 00:08:01.21\00:08:02.64 I mean, I know you're going to continue your lifestyle, 00:08:02.68\00:08:05.48 what about these other treatments, 00:08:05.51\00:08:06.85 will you do those on your own? 00:08:06.88\00:08:08.85 When I get home, I'm going to continue 00:08:08.88\00:08:11.45 with doing my devotional, 00:08:11.49\00:08:12.89 my lesson in the morning as I was before. 00:08:12.92\00:08:15.89 I will continue to do exercise. 00:08:15.92\00:08:18.53 And as for the treatments, I will attempt to do some of it 00:08:18.56\00:08:22.10 because you actually need another person 00:08:22.13\00:08:24.47 to help you in that, 00:08:24.50\00:08:25.83 when you do the fever treatment. 00:08:25.87\00:08:27.20 I'm glad you said that. 00:08:27.24\00:08:28.57 You do. You actually need it. 00:08:28.60\00:08:29.94 It's recommended. Isn't that amazing? 00:10:03.10\00:10:05.43 I'd be really, really paranoid about this time. 00:10:05.47\00:10:09.57 Oh, yeah, most people 00:10:09.60\00:10:10.94 when you've just been given a diagnosis of 00:10:10.97\00:10:13.98 not one but two cancers, significant, 00:10:14.01\00:10:18.75 you know, most people fall apart 00:10:18.78\00:10:20.48 or they just, yeah, the stress and anxiety, 00:10:20.52\00:10:23.45 the worry takes over, but not for Mary. 00:10:23.49\00:10:28.16 Is there something that you can say 00:10:28.19\00:10:29.69 to our guests that are watching 00:10:29.72\00:10:32.03 that might give them some encouragement, 00:10:32.06\00:10:34.86 some faith, just to know that it doesn't have to end? 00:10:34.90\00:10:41.67 Yeah, 00:10:41.70\00:10:44.11 I think that the lesson I learned from Mary, 00:10:44.14\00:10:46.94 when I think about her is so many people 00:10:46.98\00:10:49.88 do focus on the problem when they have a diagnosis. 00:10:49.91\00:10:54.68 And they let bad emotions, 00:10:54.72\00:10:57.15 things that have been hurting them, 00:10:57.19\00:11:00.42 just, oops, here's another thing 00:11:00.46\00:11:01.92 or here's another thing and just is a downward spiral, 00:11:01.96\00:11:05.09 but Mary was instead, 00:11:05.13\00:11:06.46 "Well, I've got to deal with this, 00:11:06.49\00:11:08.16 and just put everything in God and move forward. 00:11:08.20\00:11:11.10 A good example, the mind body connection, 00:11:11.13\00:11:13.17 I don't want to underplay it all 00:11:13.20\00:11:15.24 the faith in God 'cause that is the most important aspect. 00:11:15.27\00:11:17.21 Yeah. 00:11:17.24\00:11:18.57 But, I think, people do also forget 00:11:18.61\00:11:19.94 that the mind body connection is very profound, 00:11:19.97\00:11:22.14 the way God has made us. 00:11:22.18\00:11:24.01 And we do have a choice we're going to focus on, 00:11:24.05\00:11:25.91 the positive or the negative. 00:11:25.95\00:11:28.18 There's a study that was done on how people responded 00:11:28.22\00:11:31.59 to immunizations once full shot, how it was, 00:11:31.62\00:11:35.42 the study was on measuring antibody response. 00:11:35.46\00:11:38.93 And they had two groups of people. 00:11:38.96\00:11:40.63 In one group, for seven minutes 00:11:40.66\00:11:42.43 before the shot, they asked them to think about 00:11:42.46\00:11:44.03 a pleasant happy experience in their life, 00:11:44.07\00:11:46.37 the other group was supposed 00:11:46.40\00:11:48.07 to think about something negative 00:11:48.10\00:11:49.44 and bad that had happened to them. 00:11:49.47\00:11:51.24 For seven minutes before the shot 00:11:51.27\00:11:52.61 and then they just came, and said 00:11:52.64\00:11:53.98 "Okay, time for your shot." 00:11:54.01\00:11:55.34 They didn't tell them 00:11:55.38\00:11:56.71 why they told them to think about it or anything, 00:11:56.75\00:11:58.08 and people went on their way after the shot. 00:11:58.11\00:11:59.45 They brought them back six months later, 00:11:59.48\00:12:00.82 checked their antibody levels. 00:12:00.85\00:12:03.22 And there was a huge difference between the antibodies 00:12:03.25\00:12:05.29 that was in those who had thought about happy things 00:12:05.32\00:12:08.96 before that shot compared to those 00:12:08.99\00:12:11.86 that had thought about something tragic in their life 00:12:11.89\00:12:14.83 that they were still bitter about. 00:12:14.86\00:12:17.27 And so their emotional state 00:12:17.30\00:12:19.50 at that time had a profound influence 00:12:19.53\00:12:22.94 on the immune response. 00:12:22.97\00:12:27.14 That's some real powerful information 00:12:27.18\00:12:29.91 that kind of leads me back to the Bible were, 00:12:29.94\00:12:34.78 I think, it was Christ says, "What you focus on you become." 00:12:34.82\00:12:38.69 And I really believe that. 00:12:38.72\00:12:41.39 And what I just heard you say, 00:12:41.42\00:12:42.82 "If you're focusing on the negative, 00:12:42.86\00:12:44.89 your body's going to start producing negative stuff." 00:12:44.93\00:12:48.30 Whatever that is, I'm not a doctor 00:12:48.33\00:12:49.83 so I don't know. 00:12:49.86\00:12:51.33 But I know, when I'm feeling good, 00:12:51.37\00:12:53.77 when I'm feeling positive, 00:12:53.80\00:12:58.37 that energy that's flowing through me, 00:12:58.41\00:13:01.24 the love of God, Christ Himself is just keeping me alive. 00:13:01.28\00:13:07.02 You know, many people have trouble with peace. 00:13:07.05\00:13:09.48 Yeah. And contentment. 00:13:09.52\00:13:12.32 But what does Isaiah 26 tell us, 00:13:12.35\00:13:14.92 "Thou who have keep him in perfect peace 00:13:14.96\00:13:17.59 whose mind is stayed on thee 00:13:17.63\00:13:18.96 because he trusted in thee." 00:13:18.99\00:13:20.33 Amen, amen. 00:13:20.36\00:13:21.70 "Trust in the Lord. 00:13:21.73\00:13:23.06 Jehova, for in Him is everlasting peace, right, 00:13:23.10\00:13:26.03 and strength." 00:13:26.07\00:13:27.40 And here's a lady who's exemplifying that. 00:13:27.44\00:13:30.37 She's at peace. 00:13:30.41\00:13:33.17 And, you know, I'm just wondering, 00:13:33.21\00:13:35.68 man, I think, I fell short, I mean, real short 00:13:35.71\00:13:39.45 because I only seem to be at peace 00:13:39.48\00:13:41.45 when everything is going right. 00:13:41.48\00:13:43.49 But I don't know that everything 00:13:43.52\00:13:45.15 is going right for her, 00:13:45.19\00:13:46.52 at least not from my perspective. 00:13:46.55\00:13:48.19 From her perspective, 00:13:48.22\00:13:51.36 I think, it's just fine. 00:13:51.39\00:13:53.60 And you just nailed it. 00:13:53.63\00:13:55.16 Thank you for sharing that. You're welcome. 00:13:55.20\00:13:57.63 So how about our guest viewers, 00:13:57.67\00:14:00.27 now can you look in that camera and tell them 00:14:00.30\00:14:03.47 what they might think about doing. 00:14:03.51\00:14:07.01 You know, I know that many of you challenge 00:14:07.04\00:14:10.01 or face huge challenges in your life, 00:14:10.05\00:14:12.31 and God wants to bring you through those. 00:14:12.35\00:14:17.32 We're not all born positive. 00:14:17.35\00:14:20.89 Ron, I was not born 00:14:20.92\00:14:22.42 with rose-colored glasses on my vision. 00:14:22.46\00:14:25.86 I was tend to be more of a pessimist 00:14:25.89\00:14:27.63 and I learned over time. 00:14:27.66\00:14:30.37 When you rely on God, you talk faith, 00:14:30.40\00:14:34.07 you spend time with the Lord each and every day, 00:14:34.10\00:14:37.37 and you put your full trust in Him. 00:14:37.41\00:14:38.74 He will bring you through. 00:14:38.77\00:14:40.51 He'll bring us all through, and He truly can give us peace 00:14:40.54\00:14:43.55 even in the midst of a very trying moment, 00:14:43.58\00:14:47.48 like being told you have cancer. 00:14:47.52\00:14:49.78 So for you, Ron, for our viewers, 00:14:49.82\00:14:52.15 that is what I would really like everyone to go home 00:14:52.19\00:14:55.16 with and myself included. 00:14:55.19\00:14:56.83 That's life, things happen, 00:14:56.86\00:14:58.53 but God is always going to bring us through. 00:14:58.56\00:15:00.56 Some of you say amen. 00:15:00.60\00:15:02.86 I mean, that was powerful. 00:15:02.90\00:15:04.93 We could have done a sermon on that. 00:15:04.97\00:15:07.70 But thank you, doctor. 00:15:07.74\00:15:09.27 It's really encouraging to here a doctor speak like you do, 00:15:09.30\00:15:14.08 and I'm so grateful that you're here 00:15:14.11\00:15:16.68 and I know Mary is too. 00:15:16.71\00:15:18.75 Praise the Lord. Isn't that amazing? 00:17:53.64\00:17:55.77 The faith out of that little woman. 00:17:55.80\00:17:58.67 But she did. 00:17:58.71\00:18:00.04 Towards the end, 00:18:00.08\00:18:01.41 I found something that she said 00:18:01.44\00:18:02.88 that was something I haven't heard before 00:18:02.91\00:18:04.85 about this health message, 00:18:04.88\00:18:06.55 the reason why she found the spiritual important. 00:18:06.58\00:18:09.12 Of course, typically, she believes that the spiritual 00:18:09.15\00:18:12.22 has to go with the health side. 00:18:12.25\00:18:13.69 She knows that it's God that does the ultimate healing. 00:18:13.72\00:18:16.06 But she said something to me 00:18:16.09\00:18:17.89 and, you know, I asked her, I said, 00:18:17.93\00:18:19.26 "What's your takeaway with bringing the spiritual, 00:18:19.29\00:18:22.23 bringing God into the health message?" 00:18:22.26\00:18:24.17 And I was expecting the same typical answer, 00:18:24.20\00:18:26.27 "Well, God heals. 00:18:26.30\00:18:27.64 He'll give me power, He'll give me strength, 00:18:27.67\00:18:29.07 He'll help me to overcome." 00:18:29.10\00:18:30.44 Those are the answers 00:18:30.47\00:18:31.81 that we normally hear that God will help my will, 00:18:31.84\00:18:34.91 but with her, it was this and she said, 00:18:34.94\00:18:37.38 "I want God to be guiding my doctor's hand. 00:18:37.41\00:18:41.05 I want to be connected with God 00:18:41.08\00:18:42.75 because I want Him 00:18:42.78\00:18:44.12 to be working with these doctors 00:18:44.15\00:18:46.72 that are dealing with me." 00:18:46.76\00:18:48.12 And she even talked about the doctors here, 00:18:48.16\00:18:50.39 as good as they are, they can miss something. 00:18:50.43\00:18:52.86 And, you know, 00:18:52.89\00:18:54.23 she's going to have surgery when she leaves here. 00:18:54.26\00:18:56.10 And one of her concerns was this that, 00:18:56.13\00:18:58.53 "I really want the doctors 00:18:58.57\00:19:00.17 to be guiding those surgeons hands. 00:19:00.20\00:19:02.80 I want the God to be their eyes to help them see." 00:19:02.84\00:19:06.51 So from her point of view, it was more of having God work 00:19:06.54\00:19:10.68 through her health professions, 00:19:10.71\00:19:12.05 and I've never heard that before. 00:19:12.08\00:19:13.42 Wow. 00:19:13.45\00:19:14.78 You know, we pray that prayer a lot 00:19:14.82\00:19:16.25 that God will guide our surgeons 00:19:16.28\00:19:18.85 and He's the master surgeon and metaphysician 00:19:18.89\00:19:22.66 and a lot of things that Jesus has been called. 00:19:22.69\00:19:25.46 But to hear say these words, wow, I just go, 00:19:25.49\00:19:31.37 what more could you have ask for. 00:19:31.40\00:19:33.03 Right. 00:19:33.07\00:19:34.40 And she's got a great attitude about it. 00:19:34.44\00:19:37.77 And by the way, September 11... 00:19:37.81\00:19:40.34 Yeah, it's coming soon. 00:19:40.38\00:19:41.81 So it will be, it's right around the corner, 00:19:41.84\00:19:43.61 a couple weeks out. 00:19:43.65\00:19:45.11 And I want to have a group of us join in prayer 00:19:45.15\00:19:49.25 not just for Mary but for Billy, for Jeffrey, 00:19:49.28\00:19:53.36 for all the people that come through our program 00:19:53.39\00:19:56.29 'cause there are so many in need. 00:19:56.32\00:19:58.29 But I got to tell you this. 00:19:58.33\00:20:00.76 When I'm sitting back and I watch graduation, 00:20:00.80\00:20:04.13 and I see the people of all these diseases, 00:20:04.17\00:20:07.30 and they all make their testimony 00:20:07.34\00:20:09.67 evolving around God and they're being rebaptized 00:20:09.70\00:20:15.21 and their faith been reinstalled. 00:20:15.24\00:20:20.12 This tells me, "Damon has done it again." 00:20:20.15\00:20:24.45 You know... 00:20:24.49\00:20:25.99 But, you know, something else that comes out of this too. 00:20:26.02\00:20:27.92 When you see the God is, you know, they're rededicating 00:20:27.96\00:20:32.26 their lives to God. 00:20:32.29\00:20:33.63 But if you also notice 00:20:33.66\00:20:35.00 how close they become to one another, 00:20:35.03\00:20:36.70 which is one of the signs of the Gospel, 00:20:36.73\00:20:38.63 "Your love for one another." 00:20:38.67\00:20:40.00 Amen. 00:20:40.04\00:20:41.37 And they all, they're lifting one another up. 00:20:41.40\00:20:43.61 There talking about their own healing, 00:20:43.64\00:20:45.01 but then you can look at... 00:20:45.04\00:20:46.84 As they look at their fellow classmates 00:20:46.88\00:20:49.04 and they make comments like, I just pray that God 00:20:49.08\00:20:51.31 heal sister so and so, I pray 00:20:51.35\00:20:52.91 that the God's with you, brother, 00:20:52.95\00:20:54.48 and they have this heart for one another. 00:20:54.52\00:20:56.95 So it's like not just a personal healing, 00:20:56.99\00:20:59.85 but you can truly see the Spirit of God 00:20:59.89\00:21:02.12 working not just in their personal lives 00:21:02.16\00:21:04.13 but in the group at large. 00:21:04.16\00:21:06.26 Amen. Amen. 00:21:06.29\00:21:08.00 I love that. 00:21:08.03\00:21:09.60 Oh, we've run out of time. 00:21:09.63\00:21:11.07 That's the fastest five minutes I've ever seen. 00:21:11.10\00:21:13.64 I want to thank you, Damon. 00:21:13.67\00:21:15.24 We will see you around campus. 00:21:15.27\00:21:16.60 And thank you. Don't go away. 00:21:16.64\00:21:17.97 Stay tuned for the next segment. 00:21:18.01\00:21:19.67 When we look at the health status 00:21:21.48\00:21:22.94 of Americans today, 00:21:22.98\00:21:24.31 it's alarming to see that 60% are either overweight or obese. 00:21:24.35\00:21:28.92 In addition, diseases such as type two diabetes, cancer, 00:21:34.09\00:21:37.56 and heart disorders are the leading cause 00:21:37.59\00:21:39.53 of so many complications and deaths every year. 00:21:39.56\00:21:42.76 Could it have something to do with what we eat? 00:21:46.97\00:21:49.54 After all, every one in four Americans 00:21:49.57\00:21:52.17 visit a fast food restaurant daily. 00:21:52.21\00:21:54.38 And with such easy access to quick-fix foods, 00:21:54.41\00:21:57.95 we tend to forget the poor health value 00:21:57.98\00:21:59.95 those foods actually offer. 00:21:59.98\00:22:02.95 Maybe it's the sedentary lifestyle 00:22:02.98\00:22:04.79 and lack of exercise that we've become so accustomed 00:22:04.82\00:22:07.39 to as a media-dependent world. 00:22:07.42\00:22:10.29 Whatever the cause of these diseases, 00:22:10.33\00:22:12.13 a solution has arrived. 00:22:12.16\00:22:16.33 The NEWSTART lifestyle center offers an enriching program 00:22:16.36\00:22:19.83 where patients can get a healing 00:22:19.87\00:22:21.47 of mind, body, and soul. 00:22:21.50\00:22:23.64 Located on the outskirts of Sacramento, 00:22:23.67\00:22:26.17 the NEWSTART center 00:22:26.21\00:22:27.54 is situated on the beautiful campus 00:22:27.58\00:22:29.28 of Weimar Center of Health Education 00:22:29.31\00:22:32.11 with scenic walking and hiking trails all around. 00:22:32.15\00:22:35.88 With a whole plant foods eaten whole motto, 00:22:35.92\00:22:39.19 the NEWSTART center promotes a healthy plant-based diet 00:22:39.22\00:22:42.36 with an emphasis on natural foods. 00:22:42.39\00:22:44.83 The NEWSTART staff are made up of 00:22:44.86\00:22:46.80 California board-certified nurses, doctors, dieticians, 00:22:46.83\00:22:51.53 and therapists who work together 00:22:51.57\00:22:53.23 to assist each patient personally. 00:22:53.27\00:22:55.70 The staff are dedicated to each patient's success 00:22:55.74\00:22:58.34 in the program, and are always there to guide, 00:22:58.37\00:23:01.24 advice, and encourage. 00:23:01.28\00:23:03.21 In addition to a healthy lifestyle, 00:23:03.24\00:23:05.38 NEWSTART also promotes a healthy exercise routine. 00:23:05.41\00:23:08.48 You're both in sequence, that's good. 00:23:08.52\00:23:10.52 All right. 00:23:10.55\00:23:11.95 As part of the balance program, there is much opportunity 00:23:11.99\00:23:14.26 to get in the fair share of physical activity 00:23:14.29\00:23:16.83 from utilizing our fitness center 00:23:16.86\00:23:19.09 to taking a stroll around the peaceful grounds of Weimar. 00:23:19.13\00:23:22.73 It's amazing what a new start can do for you. 00:23:22.76\00:23:27.60 Welcome to NEWSTART Now. 00:23:27.64\00:23:29.07 I'm Dr. Neil Nedley, President of Weimar Institute. 00:23:29.10\00:23:32.01 And with me today is Dr. Eddie Ramirez, 00:23:32.04\00:23:34.88 one of our researchers and physicians here 00:23:34.91\00:23:36.88 at NEWSTART who also teaches at Weimar College. 00:23:36.91\00:23:41.25 Actually, we've been teaming up together 00:23:41.28\00:23:42.85 to do quite a number of studies, 00:23:42.88\00:23:45.05 looking at NEWSTART, and a lot of other things 00:23:45.09\00:23:47.12 that happened here at Weimar, 00:23:47.16\00:23:48.56 in depression and anxiety recovery as well. 00:23:48.59\00:23:51.49 But today, we're going to take a look at a subgroup 00:23:51.53\00:23:54.36 of patients that this scientific journal 00:23:54.40\00:23:57.53 was very interested in. 00:23:57.57\00:23:59.13 It's a subgroup called Post-Menopausal Women. 00:23:59.17\00:24:03.54 And of course, a lot of women when they're younger 00:24:03.57\00:24:06.34 look forward to the days 00:24:06.37\00:24:07.91 when they won't have to go through that monthly cycle, 00:24:07.94\00:24:10.91 and they won't have to worry about that bleeding. 00:24:10.95\00:24:13.58 But unfortunately, when they are ready to go 00:24:13.62\00:24:17.32 through that cycle and afterwards, 00:24:17.35\00:24:19.25 they tend to get 00:24:19.29\00:24:20.82 pretty unhealthy here in America. 00:24:20.86\00:24:23.12 Their cholesterols go up, their waistlines go up, 00:24:23.16\00:24:26.59 and even though they're not having periods, 00:24:26.63\00:24:28.80 they're on healthy, 00:24:28.83\00:24:30.17 and they're at the risk of a lot of problems, 00:24:30.20\00:24:32.10 like heart disease and stroke and breast cancer 00:24:32.13\00:24:35.54 and all sorts of other issues. 00:24:35.57\00:24:37.74 And so how many post-menopausal women 00:24:37.77\00:24:41.44 were looked at in this study? 00:24:41.48\00:24:42.84 We had 793 ladies that have gone through 00:24:42.88\00:24:47.78 this 14 years of data that we have 00:24:47.82\00:24:50.55 on this NEWSTAR program. 00:24:50.59\00:24:51.92 Okay, 00:24:51.95\00:24:53.29 so this was 14 years of data. 00:24:53.32\00:24:54.86 Of course, there's a lot more people 00:24:54.89\00:24:57.13 would have gone through the program on this, 00:24:57.16\00:24:59.29 but we didn't have 00:24:59.33\00:25:00.66 that past data available for us. 00:25:00.70\00:25:03.30 So this is the more recent, 00:25:03.33\00:25:05.53 14 years, brand new modern women, 00:25:05.57\00:25:08.97 many of them or most of them have, 00:25:09.00\00:25:11.31 of course, they're still around. 00:25:11.34\00:25:12.67 In fact, if you came to NEWSTART, 00:25:12.71\00:25:14.04 I would imagine pretty much all of them 00:25:14.08\00:25:15.51 are still around as long as they're carrying through 00:25:15.54\00:25:19.01 what they've learned here 00:25:19.05\00:25:20.38 which most do. 00:25:20.42\00:25:21.88 And so tell us a little bit about what happened 00:25:21.92\00:25:24.09 to these almost 800 women. 00:25:24.12\00:25:25.75 Yep. 00:25:25.79\00:25:27.12 Well, something we see in medical consultation, 00:25:27.16\00:25:29.22 as they pass through that changed, 00:25:29.26\00:25:31.43 their numbers in cholesterol 00:25:31.46\00:25:32.89 and so forth start going in the wrong direction. 00:25:32.93\00:25:36.46 For example, on the LDL cholesterol, 00:25:36.50\00:25:39.30 a very good cholesterol that correlates 00:25:39.33\00:25:42.17 to heart disease and stroke and very negative events, 00:25:42.20\00:25:46.68 they were able to lower it 00:25:46.71\00:25:48.08 very nicely from 135 on average, 00:25:48.11\00:25:51.81 by the end 117 their average. 00:25:51.85\00:25:55.15 Okay, and that's not using any medicine, Doc. 00:25:55.18\00:25:57.52 That is actually without any medication 00:25:57.55\00:26:00.29 to lower cholesterol. 00:26:00.32\00:26:01.72 Just a few days of lifestyle changes. 00:26:01.76\00:26:04.36 It's amazing what can happen 00:26:04.39\00:26:06.80 from years of beating your body up 00:26:06.83\00:26:09.53 through a poor diet and exercise, 00:26:09.56\00:26:11.27 what can happen when you come to Weimar, 00:26:11.30\00:26:13.07 in just a matter of a few days, 00:26:13.10\00:26:15.40 how quickly the body starts to heal itself. 00:26:15.44\00:26:18.21 And specially, in this particular age group, 00:26:18.24\00:26:21.84 that's the time that people start taking medications. 00:26:21.88\00:26:25.08 And when a physician starts seeing these numbers, 00:26:25.11\00:26:27.62 he gets worried 00:26:27.65\00:26:28.98 and adding and adding and adding more medications 00:26:29.02\00:26:31.65 that have side effects and so forth. 00:26:31.69\00:26:33.76 So the beauty of this is that these ladies 00:26:33.79\00:26:35.96 were able to improve those numbers 00:26:35.99\00:26:39.26 and at the same time decrease 00:26:39.29\00:26:41.33 in some of the medications and feeling great. 00:26:41.36\00:26:44.43 Other number that improved very nicely 00:26:44.47\00:26:46.33 was their mean cholesterol from... 00:26:46.37\00:26:49.00 At 221, it came down to 195, 00:26:49.04\00:26:54.11 and a mode of 175. 00:26:54.14\00:26:56.18 Most of the ladies had that 175 number. 00:26:56.21\00:26:59.65 Okay. 00:26:59.68\00:27:01.02 So that's significant. 00:27:01.05\00:27:02.38 That's about 50, sometimes, 00:27:02.42\00:27:04.65 50 number drop in milligrams per deciliter 00:27:04.69\00:27:08.66 just in a few days by coming to a NEWSTART. 00:27:08.69\00:27:11.93 Also, their weight improved. 00:27:11.96\00:27:13.29 Their weight improved. 00:27:13.33\00:27:14.66 On average, they were losing four pounds which is very good. 00:27:14.70\00:27:18.17 We don't want that huge drop in weight 00:27:18.20\00:27:21.27 because you going to gain it back 00:27:21.30\00:27:23.00 as you start losing weight little by little. 00:27:23.04\00:27:25.51 And you continue that, 00:27:25.54\00:27:27.24 these numbers, the other numbers 00:27:27.28\00:27:29.11 will actually continue to improve 00:27:29.14\00:27:31.11 as you improve that weight. 00:27:31.15\00:27:33.45 So if you know any post menopausal woman 00:27:33.48\00:27:36.28 who needs an additional boost in their health 00:27:36.32\00:27:39.69 and needs to lower their risk factors for death, 00:27:39.72\00:27:42.89 dying, stroke, and heart attack, 00:27:42.92\00:27:45.56 I want to encourage you to call us 00:27:45.59\00:27:47.23 here at Weimar Institute, 00:27:47.26\00:27:49.16 so you can be part of the positive studies 00:27:49.20\00:27:51.93 that continue to come forward in the medical literature. 00:27:51.97\00:27:55.47 I'm Dr. Neil Nedley, and this is NEWSTART Now. 00:27:55.50\00:27:59.11 Join us again next week, 00:27:59.14\00:28:00.48 and you'll hear about another exciting study 00:28:00.51\00:28:02.51 that was recently published. 00:28:02.54\00:28:03.95
