Why do you need to come back? 00:06:18.51\00:06:22.41 Well, you know, it's like, 00:06:22.44\00:06:26.15 when you first got here at least in my case, 00:06:26.18\00:06:28.62 Ron, there was too much information 00:06:28.65\00:06:33.42 and I was overwhelmed with all, 00:06:33.46\00:06:36.46 just believing the program because, you know, 00:06:36.49\00:06:40.03 it just sounds too far fetched that, 00:06:40.06\00:06:42.76 you know, you can cure your diabetes 00:06:42.80\00:06:44.63 or get your kidneys better, 00:06:44.67\00:06:46.84 you know, because all of my life, 00:06:46.87\00:06:48.20 you know, I was saying, 00:06:48.24\00:06:49.57 we need to do this and we need to do that... 00:06:49.60\00:06:52.54 So anyway you've backslidden, right? 00:06:52.57\00:06:53.91 Yeah. 00:06:53.94\00:06:55.28 Then I backslidden. Yeah. 00:07:07.96\00:07:10.33 Well, this time when I came this time, 00:07:10.36\00:07:13.03 it's just like reading the Bible 00:07:13.06\00:07:14.80 or you hear things about in the Bible, 00:07:14.83\00:07:16.56 the Lord said, 00:07:16.60\00:07:17.93 "I want you to come with an open mind..." 00:07:17.97\00:07:19.93 "And receive that what I have to give you." 00:07:19.97\00:07:22.87 So I heard a sermon one time, the pastor said, 00:07:22.90\00:07:27.98 "You know, we've been writing our own story 00:07:28.01\00:07:29.64 for years and years and years 00:07:29.68\00:07:31.41 and we haven't gotten it right yet. 00:07:31.45\00:07:32.88 So now it's time for the Lord to write your story." 00:07:32.91\00:07:35.75 So that's what I do when I came this time. 00:07:35.78\00:07:38.25 I came with an open heart, listen to what I, 00:07:38.29\00:07:41.52 even though I've heard, 00:07:41.56\00:07:42.89 you know, things over and over again 00:07:42.92\00:07:45.49 and people at NEWSTART 00:07:45.53\00:07:49.66 begin to came to me and you know, 00:07:49.70\00:07:52.00 "Well, why are you here? 00:07:52.03\00:07:53.67 Why did you come back again?" 00:07:53.70\00:07:55.64 And I was, you know, just spitting out these words 00:07:55.67\00:07:58.64 and I said, "I sound like Dr. Gallant." 00:07:58.67\00:08:03.28 Yeah, you do. 00:08:03.31\00:08:04.91 So, you know, I said, 00:08:04.95\00:08:07.52 "Man, why don't you listen to yourself? 00:08:07.55\00:08:10.12 You know, you tell a lot of these people 00:08:10.15\00:08:11.49 what's good about NEWSTART and you didn't follow us." 00:08:11.52\00:08:14.66 Let's take a look at that picture." 00:08:14.69\00:08:17.23 So you know I just, like I said I had a open mind 00:08:17.26\00:08:20.16 and I know I'm not going to say I was a failure the first time 00:08:20.20\00:08:27.04 but I just needed more information to know that, 00:08:27.07\00:08:31.84 you know, this is the program for me. 00:08:31.87\00:08:33.51 Yeah... 00:08:33.54\00:08:34.88 You know, I'm so happy to hear you 00:08:34.91\00:08:36.38 say all this because, you know, I see that, 00:08:36.41\00:08:39.31 I recognize what you've gone through 00:08:39.35\00:08:42.32 and what you're going through now 00:08:42.35\00:08:45.19 and all the stress and anxiety and but get back to the pills, 00:08:45.22\00:08:50.93 the blood pressure pills, are you on all three still? 00:08:50.96\00:08:55.26 Actually I'm only on two now. And you've cut those down? 00:08:55.30\00:08:58.63 And I only take half a pill. 00:08:58.67\00:09:00.77 And your blood pressure is now what? 00:09:00.80\00:09:03.41 Today it was 130 over 72, yeah. Man, you're there. 00:09:03.44\00:09:09.31 Yeah. You're there. 00:09:09.34\00:09:10.68 Yeah. 00:09:10.71\00:09:12.05 So I'm just so happy, the Lord has blessed me... 00:09:12.08\00:09:15.05 Yeah. 00:09:15.08\00:09:16.42 And it's all because, you know, of the Lord, 00:09:16.45\00:09:19.92 you know, but the walking and the food 00:09:19.95\00:09:24.26 and listening to the doctor, with the help, 00:09:24.29\00:09:27.00 you know, they got me back on the right path again. 00:09:27.03\00:09:29.33 Amen, amen. Yeah. 00:11:20.34\00:11:21.68 You know, it's interesting you say that, 00:11:21.71\00:11:26.21 when he first came using a room that was a little bit tight 00:11:26.25\00:11:28.38 and he's a big guy and somebody had moved rooms 00:11:28.42\00:11:31.75 and so room became available, so I said to him, 00:11:31.79\00:11:33.86 "Hey, Emanuel, I think we can get you a better room, 00:11:33.89\00:11:36.46 a bigger room." 00:11:36.49\00:11:37.83 'Cause he needs a little space to stretch 00:11:37.86\00:11:40.20 and we did and he was so thankful, 00:11:40.23\00:11:42.80 he was so appreciative. 00:11:42.83\00:11:44.17 So when I would go in to see him, 00:11:44.20\00:11:45.67 I had to take a chair 00:11:45.70\00:11:47.04 in because there weren't two chairs 00:11:47.07\00:11:48.40 in his room. 00:11:48.44\00:11:49.77 And after the second visit, 00:11:49.80\00:11:51.41 he started bringing a chair in for me to sit on 00:11:51.44\00:11:53.88 so I didn't have to take one in, 00:11:53.91\00:11:55.88 just the thoughtful kind of guy that he is. 00:11:55.91\00:11:57.38 Yeah, yeah, yeah... 00:11:57.41\00:11:58.75 You know, a good friend. 00:11:58.78\00:12:00.12 I think so and you know, what really impressed me? 00:12:00.15\00:12:03.32 Now I know this guy, 00:12:03.35\00:12:04.69 you know, how sometimes you talk to someone 00:12:04.72\00:12:06.99 and they say something 00:12:07.02\00:12:08.36 and you know it's the absolute truth, 00:12:08.39\00:12:10.63 you know, we all have that ability... 00:12:10.66\00:12:11.99 Yeah, yeah. 00:12:12.03\00:12:13.50 When he said he was going away and you were all against that, 00:12:13.53\00:12:16.00 I remember it. 00:12:16.03\00:12:17.37 Yeah, we talked... 00:12:17.40\00:12:18.73 I don't want him to go and I said, 00:12:18.77\00:12:20.10 "Well, I don't either but he is committed." 00:12:20.14\00:12:22.00 He goes to a barbecue for 800 children... 00:12:22.04\00:12:24.84 Yeah. 00:12:24.87\00:12:26.21 For two days he's gone and we're both... 00:12:26.24\00:12:28.61 Oh, no, look what's going to happen. 00:12:28.64\00:12:30.75 He didn't eat any of that food. 00:12:30.78\00:12:32.41 No, no, he didn't, he didn't, he didn't even taste it. 00:12:32.45\00:12:35.42 Isn't that's amazing? Praise the Lord. 00:12:35.45\00:12:37.05 You know, though he came and saw me the week 00:12:37.09\00:12:40.12 before the program started. 00:12:40.16\00:12:42.79 Emanuel had been here before 00:12:42.82\00:12:44.43 and he came to see me in the clinic 00:12:44.46\00:12:46.90 and when I saw him, 00:12:46.93\00:12:48.90 I knew that things were not good. 00:12:48.93\00:12:50.57 Yeah. 00:12:50.60\00:12:51.93 And I said, you need to get back here. 00:12:51.97\00:12:53.44 Yeah. 00:12:53.47\00:12:54.80 And he says, "Well, I've got this commitment." 00:12:54.84\00:12:56.84 And I said, is there any way? 00:12:56.87\00:12:58.21 He says, "Well, I might be able 00:12:58.24\00:12:59.57 to get somebody to cover it for me." 00:12:59.61\00:13:00.94 I remember we talked about that, yeah. 00:13:00.98\00:13:02.34 But he couldn't. 00:13:02.38\00:13:03.71 But he realized when we talked how serious this was, 00:13:03.75\00:13:07.85 this was life threatening for him 00:13:07.88\00:13:09.78 because again, another patient with kidney problems 00:13:09.82\00:13:12.89 that they're threatening to put on dialysis. 00:13:12.92\00:13:14.52 I know. 00:13:14.56\00:13:15.89 The week we started our program, 00:13:15.92\00:13:17.53 he was supposed to go 00:13:17.56\00:13:18.89 and get a shunt to start his dialysis. 00:13:18.93\00:13:22.36 And you know, I praise the Lord that he took it seriously. 00:13:22.40\00:13:26.10 Yeah, he did. 00:13:26.13\00:13:27.47 He called me, you know, after... 00:13:27.50\00:13:28.84 That this is, yeah... 00:13:28.87\00:13:30.21 After his visit with you. No, I didn't believe you." 00:19:02.47\00:19:08.28 You know, he believed it theoretically, 00:19:08.31\00:19:10.71 but unlike what we talked about with Michelle 00:19:10.75\00:19:12.78 who actually implemented into her life, 00:19:12.81\00:19:15.72 he heard it and many people do this, 00:19:15.75\00:19:17.42 they hear this idea of the gospel 00:19:17.45\00:19:19.69 and how God can help you, 00:19:19.72\00:19:21.06 but they really don't embrace it 00:19:21.09\00:19:23.59 and experience it. 00:19:23.63\00:19:25.29 And so with Brother Sims, 00:19:25.33\00:19:27.93 he realized that he's got to embrace it. 00:19:27.96\00:19:30.73 He must embrace this thing and if he will, 00:19:30.77\00:19:34.10 he can have the same results as our sister Michelle did. 00:19:34.14\00:19:36.00 So what do you think, 00:19:36.04\00:19:37.37 did he eat any of those ribs he was cooking? 00:19:37.41\00:19:39.17 No. No and I believe it. 00:19:39.21\00:19:41.68 I believe, he told me he didn't but... 00:19:41.71\00:19:44.61 Yeah, well, that's amazing and that goes to show 00:19:44.65\00:19:47.22 because when I talked to him later, 00:19:47.25\00:19:48.85 you know, this past week 00:19:48.88\00:19:50.25 when we went right back into that room 00:19:50.29\00:19:51.75 and serve an idea, 00:19:51.79\00:19:53.12 the battle between the flesh and the spirit, 00:19:53.15\00:19:54.72 he put his head down, he says, 00:19:54.76\00:19:56.09 "I know, Pastor, 00:19:56.12\00:19:57.46 I know that it's a battle and when..." 00:19:57.49\00:19:59.49 I said, "So what are you going to do 00:19:59.53\00:20:00.86 when you feel that, 00:20:00.90\00:20:02.40 you know, fallen nature coming back wanting to eat, 00:20:02.43\00:20:05.17 wanting to express itself, wanting to have, 00:20:05.20\00:20:08.20 you know, these feelings of satisfaction?" 00:20:08.24\00:20:10.17 He said, "I'm gonna call on the name of the Lord." 00:20:10.21\00:20:11.91 Amen, amen. I said, "That's right. 00:20:11.94\00:20:13.27 You call on His name 00:20:13.31\00:20:14.64 and the moment you call on His name, 00:20:14.68\00:20:16.01 almost instantaneously 00:20:16.04\00:20:17.55 you'll desire to do what's right." 00:20:17.58\00:20:19.31 And so he's been doing that here 00:20:19.35\00:20:21.15 and I got great hope for the guy, 00:20:21.18\00:20:22.52 I think that he's going to be a real success. 00:20:22.55\00:20:23.99 I got great hope. 00:20:24.02\00:20:25.35 I believe him, the man speaks the truth, 00:20:25.39\00:20:28.86 he wouldn't lie if he was dying. 00:20:28.89\00:20:30.79 That's right. 00:20:30.83\00:20:32.16 You know, he's just a great guy 00:20:32.19\00:20:33.96 and, you know, I'm pleased to even meet him, 00:20:34.00\00:20:37.03 back then and now too. 00:20:37.07\00:20:39.00 But so we both agree, 00:20:39.03\00:20:41.30 he didn't eat 'cause he said he didn't, 00:20:41.34\00:20:43.77 but what can we do in the future for Emanuel 00:20:43.81\00:20:48.51 and all the Emanuels that come through our program? 00:20:48.54\00:20:51.35 I think from the pastoral point of view here 00:20:51.38\00:20:54.48 at fresh start or NEWSTART is 00:20:54.52\00:20:57.52 I want to stay in touch with these guys and keep them, 00:20:57.55\00:21:00.19 I'm trying, I'm working on a follow up program with them 00:21:00.22\00:21:02.79 so that I can keep in touch with them 00:21:02.82\00:21:04.79 at least on a weekly basis reminding them 00:21:04.83\00:21:07.70 of the spiritual battle. 00:21:07.73\00:21:09.10 You know, when you wake up in the morning, 00:21:09.13\00:21:10.83 it ain't business as usual, 00:21:10.87\00:21:12.20 you've got to know 00:21:12.23\00:21:13.57 the minute your feet hit the floor, 00:21:13.60\00:21:14.94 you're going to want to go back, 00:21:14.97\00:21:16.30 you're going to want to eat, 00:21:16.34\00:21:17.67 you're not going to want to exercise, 00:21:17.71\00:21:19.04 you're going to want to forget, 00:21:19.07\00:21:20.41 you're going to let stress or lie 00:21:20.44\00:21:21.78 for all the world come in 00:21:21.81\00:21:23.14 and that is where we've got to be vigilant, 00:21:23.18\00:21:25.01 that is our skin in the game is to be vigilant 00:21:25.05\00:21:28.15 and call on God and remember that it's a battle. 00:21:28.18\00:21:30.85 And I think if he'll do that and I'm pretty sure he will... 00:21:30.89\00:21:33.96 Because he's committed to that idea. 00:21:33.99\00:21:36.22 Yeah, see that. 00:21:36.26\00:21:37.59 I think that's a powerful word, commitment. 00:21:37.63\00:21:40.46 He's committed this time. 00:21:40.50\00:21:43.47 He's committed to do all and use all the tools 00:21:43.50\00:21:47.04 that you've taught him, 00:21:47.07\00:21:48.57 that the doctors have taught him 00:21:48.60\00:21:50.04 and all the lectures, 00:21:50.07\00:21:51.57 he's there, this guy, he's going to do great, 00:21:51.61\00:21:54.48 he's going to be one of our next poster child. 00:21:54.51\00:21:57.51 I thinks so. Yeah. 00:21:57.55\00:21:58.88 I really believe so, 00:21:58.91\00:22:00.25 and I think this guy has got great potential. 00:22:00.28\00:22:02.92 I believe from his own admission, 00:22:02.95\00:22:05.62 I'm going to follow these spiritual tools 00:22:05.65\00:22:07.96 and mix them with the health and together 00:22:07.99\00:22:10.53 he's going to be all right. 00:22:10.56\00:22:11.89 We're going to hear great things from him. 00:22:11.93\00:22:14.13 I want to thank you again, thank you so much, 00:22:14.16\00:22:17.17 God bless you, brother. 00:22:17.20\00:22:18.53 God bless you too, 00:22:18.57\00:22:19.90 don't go away, Dr. Nedley is up next. 00:22:19.93\00:22:25.41 Welcome to NEWSTART Now. 00:22:25.44\00:22:27.18 I'm Dr. Neil Nedley 00:22:27.21\00:22:28.54 and with me today is Dr. Eddie Ramirez, 00:22:28.58\00:22:31.18 one of the researching 00:22:31.21\00:22:32.55 physicians here at Weimar Institute 00:22:32.58\00:22:35.22 who also teaches 00:22:35.25\00:22:36.58 the research methods and design class 00:22:36.62\00:22:39.09 at the Weimar Institute College 00:22:39.12\00:22:41.19 which is an exciting place for pre-med 00:22:41.22\00:22:43.73 and health career type of searching students. 00:22:43.76\00:22:48.83 But today, we are actually going 00:22:48.86\00:22:51.17 to discuss a study 00:22:51.20\00:22:52.53 that has been accepted for publication in The Journal, 00:22:52.57\00:22:55.37 atherosclerosis, thrombosis and vascular biology. 00:22:55.40\00:23:00.11 And many of our studies that we produce here at Weimar 00:23:00.14\00:23:03.78 is looking at thousands of patients 00:23:03.81\00:23:06.25 or at least hundreds of patients. 00:23:06.28\00:23:08.28 Sometimes we'll take a look 00:23:08.32\00:23:09.65 at like just the pediatric group 00:23:09.68\00:23:12.52 and look at, you know, 11 child cases 00:23:12.55\00:23:15.92 that came through with obesity. 00:23:15.96\00:23:17.93 But today, 00:23:17.96\00:23:19.29 I'd just like to focus in on a study 00:23:19.33\00:23:22.96 that was published for one patient. 00:23:23.00\00:23:26.10 Now why is The Journal allowing one patient? 00:23:26.13\00:23:29.47 Here is the thing, 00:23:29.50\00:23:30.84 every one of our studies is actually real people, 00:23:30.87\00:23:33.98 this isn't data and we're dealing hundreds 00:23:34.01\00:23:36.31 and tens and thousands of patients, 00:23:36.34\00:23:39.55 those are all real lives and sometimes 00:23:39.58\00:23:41.85 it's good to just focus in on one patient 00:23:41.88\00:23:45.45 and what they came with here to NEWSTART. 00:23:45.49\00:23:48.82 And this guy was a sick guy, tell us a little bit about him?
