Okay. 00:04:12.41\00:04:13.75 Why are you back here? What happened? 00:04:13.78\00:04:15.42 You were here once before, 00:04:15.45\00:04:17.12 you were doing so well for six or eight months 00:04:17.15\00:04:20.12 and now here you are back in the chair again. 00:04:20.16\00:04:22.12 I was so excited and happy when I left. 00:04:22.16\00:04:25.79 And I thought I can do this 00:04:25.83\00:04:27.23 as just as the way I need to live now, 00:04:27.26\00:04:31.03 it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle. 00:04:31.07\00:04:34.00 And I was all excited, I lasted eight months, 00:04:34.04\00:04:37.57 did everything I was supposed to do, 00:04:37.61\00:04:39.31 I felt so good, all my numbers are perfect, 00:04:39.34\00:04:43.35 everything's running really well, 00:04:43.38\00:04:45.28 then I think, 00:04:45.31\00:04:46.65 well, vegan, vegetarianism, a little cheese. 00:04:46.68\00:04:50.62 Little cheese isn't going to hurt me. 00:04:50.65\00:04:52.05 Yeah, I mean, why not. Yeah, just a little cheese. 00:04:52.09\00:04:54.36 A little cheese. A little cheese. 00:04:54.39\00:04:56.46 How much is a little cheese, like a hunk? 00:04:56.49\00:04:58.99 Yeah. 00:04:59.03\00:05:00.36 Well, it started out as a small hunk, 00:05:00.40\00:05:02.46 and then it ended up being a daily hunk, 00:05:02.50\00:05:05.37 and then it ended up being cheese soup, 00:05:05.40\00:05:08.14 you know, extra cheese, extra cheese, 00:05:08.17\00:05:11.01 cheese on my salad. 00:05:11.04\00:05:12.47 And I thought, well, that's not too bad, 00:05:12.51\00:05:13.84 I'm still vegetarian until... 00:05:13.88\00:05:15.21 Now when did that happen? 00:05:15.24\00:05:16.85 What month of last year did that start? 00:05:16.88\00:05:19.91 It started probably last September. 00:05:19.95\00:05:24.45 So in September, October, November, December... 00:05:24.49\00:05:28.29 Right. This is March. 00:05:28.32\00:05:29.72 So seven months? Yes. 00:05:29.76\00:05:31.46 But I've been in touch with you in the last couple of months 00:05:31.49\00:05:33.76 both Dr. Lukens and myself. 00:05:33.80\00:05:35.76 Correct. 00:05:35.80\00:05:37.13 And we're going, "Kati, what are you doing?" 00:05:37.17\00:05:39.37 Well, you know, and also I avoided your phone calls. 00:05:39.40\00:05:42.47 I know you did. You know what? 00:05:42.50\00:05:44.44 I answered them up to a point, 00:05:44.47\00:05:47.64 but then I thought, "Okay, they are nagging now." 00:05:47.68\00:05:50.15 No. 00:05:50.18\00:05:51.51 You know, they are calling me out, 00:05:51.55\00:05:52.88 I'm feeling very guilty. 00:05:52.91\00:05:54.48 So I go to my doctor, I have blood work, 00:05:54.52\00:05:56.58 it is awful, awful on every level. 00:05:56.62\00:06:00.19 Every single thing went bad, 00:06:00.22\00:06:01.86 triglycerides, cholesterol, blood pressure, kidney... 00:06:01.89\00:06:05.46 There was nothing, nothing that was where it was. 00:06:05.49\00:06:08.66 So I think with a lot of prodding 00:06:08.70\00:06:11.00 by you and Dr. Lukens I decided, 00:06:11.03\00:06:14.47 "No, I needed to come back, that I needed to restart." 00:06:14.50\00:06:18.27 So sometimes when you fail at something 00:06:18.31\00:06:20.81 and you just don't quite make it, 00:06:20.84\00:06:22.71 you need to get back up, and do it again. 00:06:22.74\00:06:25.45 You know, come back, start again, and realize... 00:06:25.48\00:06:29.48 You know what? 00:06:29.52\00:06:30.85 You feel really good, 00:06:30.89\00:06:32.72 but it means you have to do it the rest of your life. 00:06:32.75\00:06:35.46 It isn't like I can feel good 00:06:35.49\00:06:37.63 and now I can do what I want to do. 00:06:37.66\00:06:39.46 You have to follow God's plan, 00:06:39.49\00:06:40.86 and God's plan is this is how we need to live, 00:06:40.90\00:06:44.63 how we need to eat. 00:06:44.67\00:06:46.00 So what's different this time, Kati? 00:06:46.03\00:06:48.74 I mean, when you left here last time, 00:06:48.77\00:06:50.47 you had it, you owned this program, 00:06:50.51\00:06:53.34 but what's changed this time? 00:06:53.38\00:06:55.48 The reality that it really... 00:06:55.51\00:06:58.25 I have to take it really seriously, 00:06:58.28\00:07:00.72 and really pay attention to what I'm doing, 00:07:00.75\00:07:03.85 and really do it 00:07:03.89\00:07:05.22 because I love my life, I love my family, 00:07:05.25\00:07:07.76 I love God, 00:07:07.79\00:07:09.12 and it gives me spiritual food... 00:07:09.16\00:07:10.49 Amen. 00:07:10.53\00:07:11.86 As well as the wonderful food that I eat. 00:07:11.89\00:07:14.73 And realize that, you know what, 00:07:14.76\00:07:16.80 that it's not important to have that junk food into, 00:07:16.83\00:07:21.84 you know, eat those things that aren't good for me. 00:07:21.87\00:07:23.97 I would like to live to see my grand kids have, 00:07:24.01\00:07:26.37 you know, their kids. 00:07:26.41\00:07:27.84 So... Amen. 00:07:27.88\00:07:29.48 You know, Kati, 00:07:29.51\00:07:31.18 in a way it's kind of tough for you 00:07:31.21\00:07:32.55 because I guess it's okay to say 00:07:32.58\00:07:35.12 you're in the restaurant business. 00:07:35.15\00:07:36.48 Right. Right. You own two restaurants. 00:07:36.52\00:07:38.82 And you have all these different foods 00:07:38.85\00:07:40.92 that you're preparing, 00:07:40.96\00:07:42.46 and the chefs are making and so on. 00:07:42.49\00:07:44.83 And often times 00:07:44.86\00:07:46.53 we're tempted to taste these foods 00:07:46.56\00:07:49.46 and being a fellow paisano I understand. 00:07:49.50\00:07:53.84 You know, it could get really out there. 00:07:53.87\00:07:56.34 Yeah. You know... 00:07:56.37\00:07:57.71 And it was really difficult coming back the first time, 00:07:57.74\00:08:00.38 after I did this program 00:08:00.41\00:08:01.74 and I had to go into my restaurant, 00:08:01.78\00:08:03.58 and serve those cream pies, 00:08:03.61\00:08:05.58 and serve that food where I make my money. 00:08:05.61\00:08:08.38 And I looked at all my customers, 00:08:08.42\00:08:09.75 and my friends and thought I'm killing all of you. 00:08:09.78\00:08:12.35 You know what? 00:08:12.39\00:08:13.72 I wish I could get this message out 00:08:13.76\00:08:16.09 and I did what I could, 00:08:16.12\00:08:17.46 but I know everybody will still continue to... 00:08:17.49\00:08:20.40 If they don't eat at my restaurant, 00:08:20.43\00:08:21.76 they are going to eat somewhere else. 00:08:21.80\00:08:23.16 But I would like to get that message out 00:08:23.20\00:08:25.40 and to let people know, you know what? 00:08:25.43\00:08:28.04 I have access to all kinds of food, 00:08:28.07\00:08:30.41 anything that I want 00:08:30.44\00:08:31.97 and I have chefs that will make my food. 00:08:32.01\00:08:34.48 But it's still you have to change the mentality, 00:08:34.51\00:08:38.58 it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle, 00:08:38.61\00:08:40.45 this is how I enjoy eating and enjoy the food, 00:08:40.48\00:08:43.12 don't think it's a punishment to eat this food, it isn't. 00:08:43.15\00:08:47.46 And you can add herbs and fresh things to it and, 00:08:47.49\00:08:51.13 you know, your taste buds change. 00:08:51.16\00:08:52.49 And what's the basis of this food? 00:08:52.53\00:08:56.06 It's plant-based, good, nutritious food. 00:08:56.10\00:09:00.47 And I think the key is plant-based. 00:09:00.50\00:09:02.90 You know what? I think... Key. 00:09:02.94\00:09:04.91 And God put this food here for us. 00:09:04.94\00:09:07.48 And it's really funny that within, 00:09:07.51\00:09:10.58 you know, three days after you're on this program, 00:09:10.61\00:09:13.45 all of a sudden you feel better, 00:09:13.48\00:09:15.22 all your numbers are getting better. 00:09:15.25\00:09:17.09 It's like God gives you, 00:09:17.12\00:09:19.35 "I'm giving you this gift, take it." 00:09:19.39\00:09:21.99 In three days, I'm showing you, 00:09:22.02\00:09:24.46 I can make you feel so much better. 00:09:24.49\00:09:27.06 This is how you're supposed to eat. 00:09:27.10\00:09:28.46 I go to the doctor and they give me medication, 00:09:28.50\00:09:30.57 they give me bottles of pills, and say, 00:09:30.60\00:09:32.47 "Take this, take this for the rest of your life, 00:09:32.50\00:09:34.84 and you know what? 00:09:34.87\00:09:36.20 Will keep that symptom under control." 00:09:36.24\00:09:37.57 Then I go back with the new symptom 00:09:37.61\00:09:39.21 that I got from the pill of the other one. 00:09:39.24\00:09:41.04 Take another pill. 00:09:41.08\00:09:42.41 And they're going to give me another pill. 00:09:42.44\00:09:43.78 But do I ever feel good? 00:09:43.81\00:09:46.61 Am I ever really healthy? But it's definitely the second. 00:12:01.15\00:12:03.95 And I want to talk about 00:12:03.99\00:12:05.32 what you shouldn't do if you come here. 00:12:05.35\00:12:07.72 Her last visit, she was very successful, 00:12:07.76\00:12:10.89 she started to reverse all these conditions, 00:12:10.93\00:12:14.23 and then she kind of backslid, 00:12:14.26\00:12:16.30 she said, "Well, I'm in the business, 00:12:16.33\00:12:18.83 I started tasting this and tasting that." 00:12:18.87\00:12:22.14 And she got off the wagon so to speak. 00:12:22.17\00:12:25.31 So what's the prognosis? 00:12:25.34\00:12:26.68 We can see how that is, 00:12:26.71\00:12:28.44 she told us that she has 135 pies, 00:12:28.48\00:12:32.41 some are named after celebrities, 00:12:32.45\00:12:35.08 and they have half a quart of cream in them. 00:12:35.12\00:12:38.45 Oh, my goodness. 00:12:38.49\00:12:40.09 So, yeah, I mean so... 00:12:40.12\00:12:41.46 But you know what she is doing in a restaurant. 00:12:41.49\00:12:43.22 She is getting into a vegan. 00:12:43.26\00:12:45.03 She gonna have choices, 00:12:45.06\00:12:46.46 you can do vegan, vegetarian, meat, pork, 00:12:46.49\00:12:50.27 whatever it is that 00:12:50.30\00:12:51.63 they serve back East Tennessee wherever it is... 00:12:51.67\00:12:55.27 Well, you know, the thing is that 00:12:55.30\00:12:56.97 she and another person from New York, 00:12:57.01\00:13:03.04 we can't say who it is 00:13:03.08\00:13:04.41 because of the HIPAA rules and stuff. 00:13:04.45\00:13:06.31 But the two of them came together 00:13:06.35\00:13:08.18 and I thought they were right on the cusp. 00:13:08.22\00:13:11.02 Let's see what happens and see 00:13:11.05\00:13:12.69 if we can keep them off of dialysis. 00:13:12.72\00:13:15.59 Both of them were supposed to have 00:13:15.62\00:13:17.26 the shunt put in their arm. 00:13:17.29\00:13:19.46 In fact, her surgeon called her up 00:13:19.49\00:13:22.06 and he said, "Where are you? 00:13:22.10\00:13:25.27 You're supposed to be in surgery this morning." 00:13:25.30\00:13:28.00 She said, "Well, I'm in California." 00:13:28.04\00:13:30.37 And he said, "Well, see me when you get back." 00:13:30.41\00:13:33.27 When she went for eight, nine months 00:13:33.31\00:13:37.45 and then she said, well, I started a little bit off, 00:13:37.48\00:13:41.18 you know, and you taste something 00:13:41.22\00:13:43.49 and you remember how good it was, 00:13:43.52\00:13:46.22 it wasn't good for you, but it tasted good. 00:13:46.25\00:13:48.42 Yeah. 00:13:48.46\00:13:49.79 And so then she... 00:13:49.82\00:13:53.06 By the time the holidays had rolled around, 00:13:53.09\00:13:55.90 she was totally off the program. 00:13:55.93\00:13:57.47 I know. 00:13:57.50\00:13:59.03 And the nephrologist was just adamant 00:13:59.07\00:14:03.41 that she had 00:14:03.44\00:14:04.77 if she won't eat meat, milk, and eggs, 00:14:04.81\00:14:06.37 she has to eat fish. 00:14:06.41\00:14:07.74 Yeah. 00:14:07.78\00:14:09.11 And, friends, what we're talking about here 00:14:09.14\00:14:11.31 is a kidney failure. 00:14:11.35\00:14:13.21 And I just want the viewers to know 00:14:13.25\00:14:15.85 that you do not have to live with bad kidney 00:14:15.88\00:14:20.02 'cause you could always reverse. 00:14:20.06\00:14:21.39 Well, in most cases. 00:14:21.42\00:14:23.06 You can slow down the progress or you can... 00:14:23.09\00:14:25.99 It seems like you can reverse it. 00:14:26.03\00:14:28.03 Yeah. Yeah. 00:14:28.06\00:14:29.46 Enough, enough, 00:14:29.50\00:14:31.00 so that you've got enough kidney. 00:14:31.03\00:14:33.13 What was really neat about her when she came back, 00:14:33.17\00:14:36.04 both of them from the January session 00:14:36.07\00:14:38.97 the year before, came back 00:14:39.01\00:14:41.41 and they both did well the second time. 00:14:41.44\00:14:43.71 And she was so grateful when we had her graduation, 00:14:43.75\00:14:46.48 she was crying 00:14:46.51\00:14:48.02 because we had another patient that was here 00:14:48.05\00:14:50.45 and had to be on dialysis for another reason. 00:14:50.49\00:14:53.79 For eight years and every time they sat together, he said, 00:14:53.82\00:14:57.29 "Look at my arm, look at me." 00:14:57.33\00:15:00.00 He said, "This is not what you ever want to get and do, 00:15:00.03\00:15:04.47 anything you can 00:15:04.50\00:15:06.10 so that you are not particularly on dialysis." 00:15:06.13\00:15:07.47 So he was inspiring her to stay with the program, 00:15:07.50\00:15:11.31 otherwise you're going to end up 00:15:11.34\00:15:12.67 with one of these. 00:15:12.71\00:15:14.04 Is that what you're saying? 00:15:14.08\00:15:15.41 Yeah, and he said for eight years, 00:15:15.44\00:15:17.08 you know, he said three times a week, 00:15:17.11\00:15:19.38 you're tied to your machine, 00:15:19.41\00:15:21.45 you know, you have to make arrangements 00:15:21.48\00:15:23.49 and you're sitting there for three or four hours. 00:15:23.52\00:15:26.19 Well, what you're going to do during that time? 00:15:26.22\00:15:27.72 Read a book? Sleep? 00:15:27.76\00:15:29.76 And he said, he has seen 00:15:29.79\00:15:31.13 so many people taken out of there 00:15:31.16\00:15:32.66 because they don't know what to do 00:15:32.69\00:15:35.26 and they just go ahead and die. 00:15:35.30\00:15:37.43 Oh, sad. It really is. Yeah, it is. 00:15:37.47\00:15:40.04 And it's increasing by leaps and bounds. 00:15:40.07\00:15:41.74 We're not going to be able to keep up with dialysis. 00:15:41.77\00:15:43.47 No. Yeah. 00:15:43.51\00:15:45.47 We've got to keep up with Kati though. 00:15:45.51\00:15:48.21 Yeah, she realizes now 'cause... 00:15:48.24\00:15:51.18 Because the dialysis patients, 00:15:51.21\00:15:54.38 I think He put the fear in there. 00:15:54.42\00:15:56.48 Yeah. 00:15:56.52\00:15:57.85 But even so, you know, people with advanced cancer, 00:15:57.89\00:16:02.06 they're going to partial remission or remission 00:16:02.09\00:16:04.39 and after three or four years 00:16:04.43\00:16:06.39 they say, "Well, I'm cured." 00:16:06.43\00:16:08.20 And then go back to their old lifestyle? 00:16:08.23\00:16:09.56 Yeah, and then it comes again. 00:16:09.60\00:16:11.10 And it comes back with a vengeance at this point. 00:16:11.13\00:16:14.40 And so you and I, we got to keep after her. 00:16:14.44\00:16:17.44 Yeah. 00:16:17.47\00:16:18.81 We should call her on a regular basis. 00:16:18.84\00:16:21.04 Well, I know you do, you keep pretty... 00:16:21.08\00:16:23.35 Well, I try. 00:16:23.38\00:16:24.71 And I've tried over and over and over again 00:16:24.75\00:16:26.21 and I've only gotten through twice, 00:16:26.25\00:16:28.22 one time is fortunately two weeks before 00:16:28.25\00:16:33.09 the nephrologist had told her that she had to eat fish, 00:16:33.12\00:16:36.79 you know, and she was kind of wavering on that 00:16:36.83\00:16:39.86 because he sees her all the time, you know. 00:16:39.89\00:16:42.00 Yeah. And I said please don't do it. 00:16:42.03\00:16:44.47 So fish is enough to reverse this condition again? 00:16:44.50\00:16:49.04 Yeah, you mean to make it go back? 00:16:49.07\00:16:50.41 Yes. 00:16:50.44\00:16:51.77 Anytime you get the animal products, 00:16:51.81\00:16:53.14 there's way too much protein that your body can't use. 00:16:53.17\00:16:56.48 People say, well, that's not a complete protein 00:16:56.51\00:16:59.25 and they're just broadcasting the whole industry 00:16:59.28\00:17:03.79 that you have to have that, you see. 00:17:03.82\00:17:06.12 But the actual fact is that you eat the foods 00:17:06.15\00:17:10.13 that the Lord made for humans to eat 00:17:10.16\00:17:13.26 and it has just the right stuff. 00:17:13.29\00:17:14.63 Amen. 00:17:14.66\00:17:16.03 Doc, we've run out of time. 00:17:16.06\00:17:18.03 Thank you for your time, 00:17:18.07\00:17:19.40 I know you're a busy guy but we'll talk later. 00:17:19.43\00:17:22.50 Friends, thank you but don't go away. 00:17:22.54\00:17:25.07 Damien Snead, Pastor Damien Snead is up next. 00:17:25.11\00:17:29.41 Every year in America, 00:17:32.41\00:17:33.75 there are over one million deaths 00:17:33.78\00:17:35.12 because of Type 2 diabetes and chronic obesity. 00:17:35.15\00:17:38.19 This includes heart attacks and strokes. 00:17:38.22\00:17:40.46 That's six and half 747s crashing every day. 00:17:40.49\00:17:44.23 What's even more surprising is that the fix is easy. 00:17:44.26\00:17:47.46 It's your lifestyle. 00:17:47.50\00:17:49.13 Wouldn't it be nice 00:17:49.16\00:17:50.50 if you could actually add quality years to your life 00:17:50.53\00:17:52.37 rather than dying one organ at a time? 00:17:52.40\00:17:55.27 Obesity and diabetes 00:17:55.30\00:17:56.64 are the cause of over million deaths per year. 00:17:56.67\00:17:59.51 Most diseases are reversible 00:17:59.54\00:18:01.54 because most diseases are lifestyle diseases, 00:18:01.58\00:18:04.48 especially Type 2 diabetes and chronic obesity. 00:18:04.51\00:18:08.08 Seriously now, they can be reversed 00:18:08.12\00:18:10.19 and the quality of your life can be renewed. 00:18:10.22\00:18:13.72 Call NEWSTART today at 1-800-525-9192. 00:18:13.76\00:18:19.96 You will see dramatic changes 00:18:20.00\00:18:21.43 in the first few days of our program 00:18:21.46\00:18:23.47 and you'll be on the road 00:18:23.50\00:18:24.83 to a better more robust quality of life. 00:18:24.87\00:18:27.60 The NEWSTART programs are simple and effective. 00:18:27.64\00:18:30.47 Welcome back, friends, help me welcome Pastor Snead. 00:18:35.11\00:18:39.85 It's good to see you, Brother. Tell us about this, please? 00:19:39.51\00:19:41.54 Well, what I'm seeing is that these people come here 00:19:41.58\00:19:46.41 and they have usually... 00:19:46.45\00:19:47.78 I mean, we're about 70% Adventist, 00:19:47.82\00:19:50.09 30% non-Adventist, 2% non-Christian. 00:19:50.12\00:19:54.09 So both groups, 00:19:54.12\00:19:55.46 whether they are Adventist or non-Adventist, 00:19:55.49\00:19:57.06 they come and they both have, 00:19:57.09\00:19:58.43 some of them usually the same Christian experience 00:19:58.46\00:20:01.46 which is a very nominal experience. 00:20:01.50\00:20:03.90 They have been in church for years and for years, 00:20:03.93\00:20:06.47 and they come that first week into NEWSTART 00:20:06.50\00:20:10.24 and I can see it in their faces, 00:20:10.27\00:20:12.17 they think this is the same stuff 00:20:12.21\00:20:14.08 and I'm going real light on them, 00:20:14.11\00:20:15.44 I'm going the love of God, 00:20:15.48\00:20:16.81 I'm going Ecce Homo - Behold The Man, 00:20:16.85\00:20:19.18 giving your heart, 00:20:19.21\00:20:20.55 I'm going real careful with them. 00:20:20.58\00:20:22.28 But I'm also trying to work in pace 00:20:22.32\00:20:24.45 with the program, with the health program. 00:20:24.49\00:20:27.02 I'm not wanting to get ahead of their growth in health 00:20:27.06\00:20:31.36 is what I'm doing, I'm trying... 00:20:31.39\00:20:32.73 Now, you find that the health program 00:20:32.76\00:20:35.16 is kind of like food for the... 00:20:35.20\00:20:39.73 Tell us about that? Brother, it is a catalyst. 00:20:39.77\00:20:42.44 It is a catalyst 00:20:42.47\00:20:43.81 'cause I see it, you know, I have really 18 days 00:20:43.84\00:20:46.17 but I could divide those 18 days up 00:20:46.21\00:20:47.54 into two weeks, separate weeks. 00:20:47.58\00:20:50.05 And that first week, 00:20:50.08\00:20:51.41 it's tough, they are coming off all of their toxins, 00:20:51.45\00:20:53.35 all their nicotine, all their caffeine, 00:20:53.38\00:20:55.48 all their sugar-fat oils, 00:20:55.52\00:20:57.29 and they are grouchy and cranky, 00:20:57.32\00:20:58.92 they are going through that three-day fast. 00:20:58.95\00:21:01.16 So I'm taking it easy with them but about that second week, 00:21:01.19\00:21:03.46 that second Monday, 00:21:03.49\00:21:04.99 when it starts 00:21:05.03\00:21:06.36 I can already see 00:21:06.39\00:21:07.96 a powerful movement in their life, 00:21:08.00\00:21:10.40 I see something different happening 00:21:10.43\00:21:12.23 because their attention is greater, 00:21:12.27\00:21:14.30 they are paying more... 00:21:14.34\00:21:16.47 They are more interactive with me. 00:21:16.50\00:21:18.27 I can see the tears watering up. 00:21:18.31\00:21:19.64 I see the Holy Spirit 00:21:19.67\00:21:21.01 moving on them in that second week. 00:21:21.04\00:21:22.48 So it's in that second week 00:21:22.51\00:21:24.08 that I really go into the gospel. 00:21:24.11\00:21:26.85 I really take them deep into the ideas of repentance, 00:21:26.88\00:21:29.48 and justification, and sanctification, 00:21:29.52\00:21:32.25 the Holy Spirit, the new life, and they respond to it. 00:21:32.29\00:21:35.46 I mean, I've usually a 70% response rate. 00:21:35.49\00:21:39.29 And I know that's happened with Kati, 00:21:39.33\00:21:41.53 during her interview she is just talking about... 00:21:41.56\00:21:44.83 Tell us about specifically with Kati? 00:21:44.87\00:21:47.14 Well, with Kati, you know, she's been here before. 00:21:47.17\00:21:49.00 Yes. 00:21:49.04\00:21:50.37 And I don't think, she realized before the spiritual aspects. 00:21:50.41\00:21:53.01 But this second time that she came here, 00:21:53.04\00:21:55.44 she told me how quickly she felt the spiritual kick-in, 00:21:55.48\00:21:59.81 she recognized it. 00:21:59.85\00:22:01.18 With in a few days of getting her health back, 00:22:01.22\00:22:03.49 the exercise, fresh air, sunlight, 00:22:03.52\00:22:05.52 the mind becomes aware, 00:22:05.55\00:22:07.36 and the Holy Spirit's coming in, 00:22:07.39\00:22:09.39 and she felt the spiritual aspects 00:22:09.42\00:22:13.43 quicker this time, 00:22:13.46\00:22:14.80 she felt it, and it was measurable for her. 00:22:14.83\00:22:17.23 Amen. 00:22:17.27\00:22:18.60 Yeah, I'm so happy for her and I'm happy for you, 00:22:18.63\00:22:21.47 it seems like you've found a home here. 00:22:21.50\00:22:24.27 Oh, I found a niche. I found my home, that's true. 00:22:24.31\00:22:28.48 Thirteen years in a desert 00:22:28.51\00:22:30.45 trying to bring souls to Christ, 00:22:30.48\00:22:32.41 and now you're here, and you go wow, look at this. 00:22:32.45\00:22:36.42 Yes, sir. 00:22:36.45\00:22:37.79 Anyhow, I do want to thank you that you've taken your time, 00:22:37.82\00:22:41.19 I know you're a busy guy... 00:22:41.22\00:22:42.69 God bless you, Brother. Thank you so much. 00:22:42.72\00:22:45.06 And, friends, thank you but don't go away 00:22:45.09\00:22:47.10 'cause Dr. Nedley and Dr. Ramirez are up next. 00:22:47.13\00:22:50.70 Welcome to NEWSTART Now. I'm Dr. Neil Nedley. 00:22:53.74\00:22:56.74 With me today is Dr. Eddie Ramirez, 00:22:56.77\00:22:59.17 researcher, physician, 00:22:59.21\00:23:00.54 and professor at Weimar College 00:23:00.58\00:23:02.94 that teaches research design methods to students. 00:23:02.98\00:23:06.92 And this is actually a study we're highlighting today, 00:23:06.95\00:23:10.29 that was accepted for publication 00:23:10.32\00:23:12.15 and presented at Harvard data 00:23:12.19\00:23:16.22 that was analyzed in part by a student at Weimar College. 00:23:16.26\00:23:22.10 And this student had been raised 00:23:22.13\00:23:24.13 in a dysfunctional home, 00:23:24.17\00:23:26.37 and he was in jail by the time he was 15. 00:23:26.40\00:23:31.31 And he had so many issues that when he got out of jail, 00:23:31.34\00:23:35.31 his mother didn't want him home, 00:23:35.34\00:23:37.01 and he went to another facility called Advent Home, 00:23:37.05\00:23:41.72 and then from there, started to turn around, 00:23:41.75\00:23:44.45 and he got accepted 00:23:44.49\00:23:45.82 at Weimar College under probation, 00:23:45.85\00:23:48.46 and began to flourish in this environment 00:23:48.49\00:23:51.73 at Weimar College. 00:23:51.76\00:23:53.29 And he noticed that a lot of people 00:23:53.33\00:23:55.36 coming to depression and anxiety recovery programs 00:23:55.40\00:23:58.73 had dysfunctional homes in their background as well. 00:23:58.77\00:24:02.37 Seems to be a common thread 00:24:02.40\00:24:03.97 for many that have depression and anxiety. 00:24:04.01\00:24:07.01 And so he wanted to analyze those patients, 00:24:07.04\00:24:10.48 and so tell us a little bit about this study 00:24:10.51\00:24:13.45 that was accepted at Harvard? 00:24:13.48\00:24:14.85 Yes, we were using 00:24:14.88\00:24:16.48 the population of patients that have done 00:24:16.52\00:24:18.65 the community version of the depression 00:24:18.69\00:24:21.12 and anxiety program, 5621 of them. 00:24:21.16\00:24:26.16 And what we saw on this study 00:24:26.19\00:24:30.13 is that those people that grow up 00:24:30.17\00:24:33.27 not with both parents at home, 00:24:33.30\00:24:36.34 tend to have a worst baseline depression level 00:24:36.37\00:24:41.18 when they participate on the program. 00:24:41.21\00:24:43.28 And sadly, this is a common occurrence 00:24:43.31\00:24:46.05 among our world today that we live in. 00:24:46.08\00:24:48.42 That's true. 00:24:48.45\00:24:49.78 The Harvard Mastery of Stress Study 00:24:49.82\00:24:51.79 that was published before this, 00:24:51.82\00:24:54.46 showed that if we have a good relationship 00:24:54.49\00:24:57.16 with our mother and father, 00:24:57.19\00:24:59.29 we are far less likely to have any significant disease 00:24:59.33\00:25:02.26 by the time we're 50. 00:25:02.30\00:25:04.27 And, but this is looking 00:25:04.30\00:25:05.63 at the mental health part of things 00:25:05.67\00:25:07.44 and we're finding out they are far more likely 00:25:07.47\00:25:09.47 to have mental health issues 00:25:09.50\00:25:11.27 if they are not raised by both biological parents 00:25:11.31\00:25:14.18 at the same time. 00:25:14.21\00:25:15.54 By the way in our society today, 00:25:15.58\00:25:18.08 only 25% or less of kids 00:25:18.11\00:25:22.48 0 to 18 are being raised 00:25:22.52\00:25:24.22 by both biological parents at the same time. 00:25:24.25\00:25:26.45 So this is the majority of Americans out there 00:25:26.49\00:25:29.22 that we're talking about here today. 00:25:29.26\00:25:31.09 Well, what else did the study show? 00:25:31.13\00:25:32.46 So what we were showing 00:25:32.49\00:25:34.03 is that this particular vulnerable group 00:25:34.06\00:25:37.47 actually improved quite nicely as they implemented 00:25:37.50\00:25:42.07 those different lifestyle interventions 00:25:42.10\00:25:44.47 that we're proposing during that eight-week program. 00:25:44.51\00:25:48.74 And by the time 00:25:48.78\00:25:50.38 that the eight-week program finished, 00:25:50.41\00:25:53.05 their depression level had gone down 00:25:53.08\00:25:56.22 to a low mild depression. 00:25:56.25\00:25:59.45 Okay, so they came in with significant moderate 00:25:59.49\00:26:02.76 to severe levels of depression. 00:26:02.79\00:26:04.16 That's right. 00:26:04.19\00:26:05.53 And even though, 00:26:05.56\00:26:06.90 they were raised in dysfunctional home 00:26:06.93\00:26:08.26 and had problems at home, 00:26:08.30\00:26:09.86 they were able to improve their depression scores 00:26:09.90\00:26:12.77 much more than medication in just eight weeks 00:26:12.80\00:26:15.47 by attending this program and implementing some changes. 00:26:15.50\00:26:18.64 So an important aspect of this program 00:26:18.67\00:26:21.48 was the EQ side of things. 00:26:21.51\00:26:24.88 Many times people that are coming 00:26:24.91\00:26:28.08 from this background, 00:26:28.12\00:26:30.39 there's unforgiveness and hate against the parent 00:26:30.42\00:26:34.36 that wasn't present and so forth. 00:26:34.39\00:26:36.46 So by coming to the program 00:26:36.49\00:26:39.06 and helping reshape their thinking 00:26:39.09\00:26:42.46 and finding forgiveness, 00:26:42.50\00:26:44.30 that has benefits for the mental health overall. 00:26:44.33\00:26:48.47 Okay, and, you know, Lance noticed that himself, 00:26:48.50\00:26:51.37 you know, coming to Weimar, 00:26:51.41\00:26:52.77 these type of principles are second nature, 00:26:52.81\00:26:55.44 they are actually encouraged among our student body, 00:26:55.48\00:26:58.35 and he noticed that his IQ went up. 00:26:58.38\00:27:00.45 He was able to on this program perform 00:27:00.48\00:27:04.45 some advanced Chemistry, and Math, 00:27:04.49\00:27:07.72 and do well, 00:27:07.76\00:27:09.09 even well enough to get into medical school. 00:27:09.12\00:27:11.76 He was also working with his hands 00:27:11.79\00:27:13.60 in three dimensions, 00:27:13.63\00:27:14.96 the agricultural part of things 00:27:15.00\00:27:16.90 and that's why he thought 00:27:16.93\00:27:18.43 it would be good to study these others 00:27:18.47\00:27:20.10 'cause he noticed 00:27:20.14\00:27:21.47 what an improvement it occurred in his own life 00:27:21.50\00:27:23.47 and how others can also improve. 00:27:23.51\00:27:27.18 And so let someone know 00:27:27.21\00:27:29.44 about the depression and anxiety recovery program, 00:27:29.48\00:27:31.88 they can get it at home, the DVD workbook series. 00:27:31.91\00:27:35.58 They can get into a community base program 00:27:35.62\00:27:37.79 which is what we had studied here 00:27:37.82\00:27:39.45 on these 5,600 patients, 00:27:39.49\00:27:42.29 and no matter what your background is, 00:27:42.32\00:27:44.43 your depression and anxiety can actually go away 00:27:44.46\00:27:49.36 and your emotional intelligence can improve. 00:27:49.40\00:27:53.03 I'm Dr. Neil Nedley. This is NEWSTART Now. 00:27:53.07\00:27:55.60 And join us again next week for another exciting study. 00:27:55.64\00:27:58.54
