01:11 Hi, folks, and welcome to another edition
01:14 of NEWSTART Now. 01:15 I'm your host, Ron Giannoni. 01:18 In our studios with us today, 01:20 I've got a very unusual young man. 01:22 I'd like you to take a look at when he first arrived. 01:27 I'm dealing with... 01:29 I have sleep apnea, I have asthma, 01:32 I'm dealing with congestive heart failure, 01:35 I have breathing problems, I have borderline diabetes, 01:41 I'm morbidly obese. 01:44 I have problems with my circulations. 01:50 I have pains and aches all over obviously 01:53 because of the weight. 01:56 You know, when I leave this place, 01:59 I expect to, you know, I have a passion 02:02 because I know that health is very important, 02:05 and I am a literature evangelist 02:07 and I believe your body is a temple of God, 02:09 and I could never be able to tell anyone about health 02:12 if I'm in bad health and I'm morbidly obese. 02:16 I'd be looked as a joke, 02:18 and so I want to get back on track. 02:21 I'm expecting to lose an exorbitant amount of weight, 02:24 I'm expected to... 02:26 I want to be a vegetarian. 02:27 I want to be the best as far as my health 02:31 to be in the best shape. 02:33 I want to start to devote to full recovery. 02:36 My goal is to be 230 or 240 pounds. 02:41 And that's my goal. 02:42 By God's grace, I believe that I'm going to do it 02:45 within a year's time. 02:47 And I just need something to help me 02:49 to get that weight off so I could start, 02:51 and I could be able to exercise and do it. 02:57 Welcome back, friends. Help me welcome Big Joe. 03:00 Hey. 03:02 Wow, Joe, you look great, man. 03:05 You know, I know a lot of the viewers 03:07 are wondering "Gee, I've seen this guy before. 03:10 Who is this Big Joe?" 03:12 Well, I'm here to tell you that I saw Joe 03:16 before he came to the NEWSTART program 03:19 on YouTube in an interview. 03:23 And if you want to go see that program, 03:26 it's on YouTube, 03:28 Big Joe Trump type in those words, 03:32 and you'll get to see Big Joe. 03:33 And he is here now. 03:35 So, Joe, first thing I got to ask you, 03:39 what was your heaviest weight you ever weighed? 03:41 My maximum weight would have been 03:43 about maybe December, about maybe three months ago. 03:49 Basically I went to the doctor's office, 03:51 and I got on the scale, and I was about 495 pounds. 03:56 And how much are you today? 03:59 Today I'm at 434 pounds. 04:06 So you've lost about 60 pounds in the last couple of months. 04:09 Yes. 04:11 Awesome. God is good. 04:12 Now since you've been here, Joe, you've lost weight, 04:15 I know what, 30 pounds roughly? 04:17 I lost precisely 21 pounds 04:22 from the time I came here. 04:23 Good. 04:24 And how about medications, are you off medications? 04:28 Everything that I was on, 04:30 I'm totally off of it right now. 04:32 You're off from all medication? I am not taking any meds. 04:35 Weren't you diabetic? I was borderline. 04:39 But now you don't have to worry about it. 04:41 Basically everything, my blood pressure, 04:43 and I had a lot of things that was going on with me 04:46 at the time, and I was on a lot of meds 04:49 and coming here I'm not taking anything right now 04:54 and everything is under control. 04:56 Now when you got here, I know that we have a half mile loop 05:00 and you couldn't walk that half mile loop. 05:03 No. 05:04 Are you able to do it now? 05:06 I am definitely. 05:07 But actually it's my custom being here. 05:10 Now I actually do at least 05:14 I do that four times a day and more. 05:17 I have done a lot of things that I was not able to do 05:21 as I was not accustomed to moving around so much 05:25 and actually walking up. 05:27 This is pretty terrainy and hilly, 05:30 and I wasn't accustomed to that especially 05:33 in the city where I live. 05:34 Yeah. 05:36 Now something very unusual happened 05:38 while you were here all of a sudden. 05:41 And people who are watching us right now, 05:44 a lot of them do not realize the spiritual component 05:49 of the NEWSTART program. 05:50 But it hits you in a big way and you were re-baptized? 05:56 Yes, I was. 05:58 Yeah, and I'm so happy I've done that. 06:00 You know, I committed myself 06:02 when I decided to come to this program. 06:05 I knew that I need to do a change in my diet. 06:08 I knew that my life depended on it, 06:10 and I wanted to be very serious about this 06:14 because I've had a struggle with appetite and diet 06:17 and a lot of people do, but I wanted to make sure 06:21 that I sealed my decision with God 06:24 that this was not going to be just me 06:26 doing this on my own in my own strength, 06:28 but me doing it with the power of God in my life, 06:32 and so I made a commitment to Him 06:34 that I'm so serious about this 06:36 that I'm going to recommit myself to You 06:38 so that You can help me do this 06:41 because I know I won't be there, 06:43 I wouldn't have been able to do it all by myself. 06:45 I'm freezing down here. Talk about watery grave. 06:48 Man, this is going to be a resurrection, all right. 06:51 Big Joe. Yeah. 06:52 Because of your desire. Yes. 06:54 To enter into that door we spoke of the death. 06:57 Leave your old self behind to be resurrected 06:59 in the power of Holy Spirit. 07:02 We now baptize you in name the Father, 07:04 the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 07:06 Amen. 07:22 Amen. 07:24 You know, 07:26 no truer words have ever been spoken 07:28 and I have read this morning in our quarterly hub, 07:31 Peter got out of the boat 07:34 and he was walking on water towards Jesus, 07:37 but then he took his eyes off of Jesus, 07:40 and you know the rest. 07:41 He's sunk and he said, "Jesus, help me." 07:45 And this is the life that we live, 07:49 we take our eyes off the Lord and we start to sink, 07:52 but then we cry out, and He reaches out His hand, 07:55 and lifts us out of despair. 07:57 And that's what you just said to me. 07:58 That's right. Yeah. 08:00 You can do nothing without Him. 08:02 Okay, now let me ask you a question. 08:04 Yeah. 08:05 Aside from me, 08:08 who's your favorite person here? 08:10 No, I didn't mean to say it that way. 08:12 What impressed you the most of our program? 08:17 Oh, man, you have a really comprehensive program. 08:20 The fact that you're even out in the country, 08:23 and the mountain scenery, 08:24 you take someone out of the city, 08:26 because I'm accustomed to the pollution, the smog, 08:30 and everything and I'm out of the urban area 08:33 and to a country scenery, 08:34 a quiet beautiful mountainous region. 08:39 I'm drinking, you know, eating healthy food, water. 08:43 I'm meeting people from all over the country 08:46 that has different ailments but we all have the same goal. 08:51 I'm in an environment. This environment is so... 08:53 I mean the rooms, the beds are so comfortable. 08:56 It's very rare that I find the bed... 08:58 So you're pretty impressed about the whole thing. 09:01 Yes, the whole entire, the lodge is very comfortable, 09:04 and accommodating. 09:06 The people are so, the workers are so friendly, 09:10 and they're really loving and cooperative. 09:12 And, you know, everybody is there to assist you. 09:16 What about your doctor? Was he accommodating? 09:20 Oh, most definitely. He is definitely. 09:22 And that is Dr. Lukens? Dr. Lukens. 09:25 Yes, my doctor. 09:27 Did you find him different than the doctors off campus? 09:31 Oh, yeah. 09:33 Dr. Lukens and, you know, also Dr. Gallant, 09:38 these guys are really... 09:40 The doctors that I've noticed here are very, 09:43 they're oriented as far as getting cured 09:47 but in a holistic way 09:49 and doing it by eating healthier 09:52 and eliminating the fats in our diet 09:55 and things of that nature, 09:57 which is very unusual whereas other doctors 10:00 outside of this place are more into pharmaceuticals 10:05 and just giving you drugs to try it 10:07 and it doesn't actually take care of the problem. 10:10 It just takes care of the symptoms 10:14 of what's going on but it doesn't address 10:17 the underlying issue which the doctors here 10:20 addressed the underlining prevention altogether 10:24 and if we can prevent this, we don't even have to worry 10:27 about dealing with these things. 10:29 Joe, I want to thank you for joining us here. 10:33 We've run out of time. God bless you, Brother. 10:36 Thank you. I'll be following up. 10:38 Well, thank you. Stay in tune. 10:39 But, friends, don't go away. Dr Lukens will be up next. 10:47 Every year in America there are over one million deaths 10:49 because of Type 2 diabetes and chronic obesity. 10:53 This includes heart attacks and strokes. 10:55 That's six and half 747s crashing every day. 10:58 What's even more surprising is that the fix is easy. 11:02 It's your lifestyle. 11:03 Wouldn't it be nice if you could actually add 11:05 quality years to your life rather than dying 11:08 one organ at a time? 11:10 Obesity and diabetes are the cause 11:11 of over million deaths per year. 11:14 Most diseases are reversible 11:16 because most diseases are lifestyle diseases, 11:19 especially Type 2 diabetes and chronic obesity. 11:22 Seriously now, they can be reversed 11:25 and the quality of your life can be renewed. 11:28 Call NEWSTART today at 1-800-525-9192. 11:34 You will see dramatic changes 11:36 in the first few days of our program 11:38 and you'll be on the road to a better more 11:40 robust quality of life. 11:42 The NEWSTART programs are simple and effective. 11:49 Welcome back, friends. 11:50 Please help me welcome Dr. Lukens. 11:53 Yeah. Good to see you. 11:54 It's always good to see you. 11:56 And, you know, I want to talk about Joe. 11:58 But before we get on the subject of Big Joe, 12:02 I want to talk about big Rick Lukens. 12:04 Yeah. 12:06 You've been here what, 28 years? 12:08 Yeah, 27. 12:09 But who's counting? No. 12:12 You know, you've just been such a great mentor to me 12:18 in both health and my spiritual path 12:23 has changed since, you know, you come to my office 12:26 and we pray together, and I'm just grateful for that. 12:29 And I wanted our viewers to know 12:31 because an integral part of our program 12:35 is our spiritual connection with the Lord. 12:38 It has to be. It has to be. 12:40 Otherwise, these things just didn't work. 12:42 Yeah. 12:43 So Big Joe, what a guy. 12:46 Big. 12:48 Man, yeah, he's big. 12:49 He picked me up, and he shook me 12:51 like a rag doll. 12:52 Yeah, yeah. 12:54 And then he did this with a couple of our staff members. 12:57 He picked up two of them at the same time. 13:00 This guy is huge and strong for a guy 13:03 with all those problems though. 13:05 You know, we got to get him in good shape. 13:09 He is in better shape today... 13:10 Oh, yeah. Yeah, he is. 13:11 Than he was when he got here. Wouldn't you say? 13:14 Well, one of the things that was really bothering him 13:17 is that his legs were so swollen. 13:19 And so I took my thumb as we do and pressed 13:24 on what we call the pretibial area or the shin 13:27 and I got all the way up to his knee, 13:29 and he still had more... 13:31 Indents staying in there. Yeah. 13:33 And then we always talk about this 13:37 when the heart gets strong, 13:39 it's able to pump through the kidneys 13:42 and I could see his eyes going like that 13:44 because he lost a lot of weight 13:46 from one Monday to the next, you know. 13:48 Yes. 13:50 But he must have gained more muscle at the same time. 13:53 Well, he did. 13:54 So after he lost the water, then he didn't lose as much 13:57 because he was doing pretty good exercise. 14:00 One time I said, "Joe, 14:03 look if you're going to talk to somebody, 14:06 get out on the loop and walk and stuff like it. 14:10 So he was still talking pictures, you know, 14:13 picking people up as a joke. 14:15 And then I took him by the hand, you know, 14:18 sort of and I said let's go walk 14:21 because sometimes, you know, 14:22 his blood pressure would go way up. 14:24 Oh, yeah. 14:25 You know, our heart has to pump through all of our body, 14:28 we can't just say "Well, today the right leg 14:31 isn't going to get any circulation. 14:33 So that's the reason why he was failing. 14:35 But he has a pretty healthy appetite 14:39 if you want to say healthy. 14:42 It's beyond healthy. It's beyond. 14:44 Yeah, you know, he wanted to go, 14:46 see Pastor Doug Batchelor. 14:50 Oh, yeah, yeah. You took him down there. 14:51 And so I took him down there. 14:53 And he picked him up and say, "Hi, Pastor." 14:55 Well, he didn't pick him up. 14:56 But amazingly, all he wanted to do is meet people. 14:59 He is saying hello to everybody. 15:02 He was just like the celebrity, you know. 15:05 He's quite an amazing guy. 15:07 Yeah, he is. 15:09 And I've learned to love him. 15:10 But I got to cut him short because he takes the show. 15:14 I mean you saw the baptism 15:16 which we showed our friends here. 15:18 And he had everybody on top of the mountain. 15:21 He wanted everybody to take a picture with him. 15:23 There were 125 people there. 15:26 And everybody had to be there with Big Joe. 15:28 Yeah. That's right. 15:30 You know, one of the things that I don't know, 15:33 he said that he is a literature evangelist, 15:35 but he said they bring in these truckloads of extra books 15:41 or, you know, people are wanting everything online now, 15:44 so books are not as big as they used to. 15:47 And then he helps people to learn 15:50 how to give the books out and to engage people. 15:53 He isn't just like, you know, like this. 15:55 He talks to them a little bit and finds out 15:58 and then he canvassed one of our staff that... 16:01 Oh, he told you. Yeah. 16:03 He said well what church you go to, 16:05 and what do you know about the Bible, 16:07 and then he said, "Well, 16:08 I'm going to give you this book, will you read it? 16:10 And she says, "Yeah. Yeah, I'll read it, you know." 16:13 So that's good, you know. 16:15 He is little intimidating though, 16:17 don't you think? 16:18 Well, his size has something to do with it. 16:20 This guy is towering over you saying, 16:21 you will read this, won't you? 16:23 But here the thing is that people that are like that 16:27 when they can get a hold of this 16:30 and actually do the whole plant foods eating the whole, 16:35 and then they're just like some of the pastors 16:40 from other churches that have come here. 16:42 And the people are saying, "You've got to tell me, pastor, 16:45 how did you do it," you know. 16:47 Some of the people are well-known in the country, 16:50 you know, and it's wonderful because 16:53 then when a person starts getting some victories 16:58 in their life in the area of health, 17:00 then they say, "You know, Lord, You can help me with, 17:04 you know, my temper, or my other addictions, 17:07 or whatever," and then that's a wonderful thing. 17:11 That's why we're here. 17:12 I think he's done remarkably well. 17:14 You're his doctor. 17:16 I know he's had so many issues and, you know, 17:20 he's taken so much medication 17:22 with all these different things. 17:24 But he tells me that he's continuing on the path. 17:28 He's going to be a poster child for the NEWSTART program, 17:32 and we need to follow up on him. 17:34 Yeah, we do. 17:35 Did he say how much he's walking 17:37 'cause that's a main thing for him? 17:38 He told me he is cut back a little 17:41 but I said you got to walk. 17:42 Anyway we're out of time. 17:45 Our time, soon when you're having fun, 17:46 what happens. 17:47 Doctor, thank you so much. Yeah. 17:49 Everybody, pray for Big Joe. Pray for Big Joe. 17:52 Actually, Joe 17:54 'cause we don't want him to be big anymore. 17:55 No. He's always going to be tall. 17:57 But, friends, don't go away. Pastor Snead is up next. 18:04 Welcome back, friends. 18:06 Help me welcome Pastor Snead. 18:08 How are you doing? I'm doing good, Brother. 18:10 You know, I just found out today 18:12 you had some Italian blood in you. 18:13 Yes, sir. 18:14 So I got to relate to you a little different. 18:17 But I want our viewers to know that 18:21 you are newest pastor. 18:23 And you've been here since June of 2016. 18:27 Yes, sir. 18:28 And from my perspective you've baptized more people 18:32 in last eight months 18:34 than I think we did in the previous eight years. 18:37 So that tells me something. 18:40 The work you're doing is wonderful. 18:42 I just want to thank you, but let's talk about Joe. 18:45 Big Joe, yes. Big Joe. 18:48 What did you see herein? 18:50 Help us to understand what we're seeing in this man? 18:54 Well, Big Joe, what I've seen in Big Joe is 18:56 typical in a lot of church members, 18:58 a lot of Adventists that come through. 19:00 Big Joe was one of these guys that he came, 19:03 he's been a part of the church for a long time, 19:05 but about halfway through the program, 19:07 Big Joe began to have a spiritual revival. 19:11 The health starts working and by the second week 19:14 things are starting to change and I noticed 19:17 the first week it was kind of rough with Big Joe, 19:19 but by the second week he really began 19:22 to pay attention and come alive. 19:24 And it led to him being baptized too, 19:28 a spiritual revival for him. 19:30 That was amazing. 19:31 There had to be 150 people at that baptism. 19:33 Yeah, it was a big one for a big one. 19:37 A big one for a big one. Yeah. 19:39 I recall that you were trying 19:40 to get him out of the water there, 19:43 that took four people to get him out. 19:45 Yeah, if Kirk Krueger wouldn't have been there, 19:47 it would have been an interesting baptism. 19:49 'Cause he came out of my arms that was a handful, I had... 19:52 Yeah, such a blessing. 19:54 And, you know, we know that you had a lot to do 19:57 with that, pastor. 19:58 And, you know, to me, I want to talk about you 20:02 just for a little bit, you're such a loving man, 20:06 and I think I understand more after talking to you 20:10 a few times, but our guests that come to our program 20:14 feel that love. 20:16 They feel your sincerity and I feel that Weimar 20:20 and the NEWSTART program is blessed to have you here. 20:24 And I'm not trying to give you a big head, you know that. 20:28 And, but it's by God's grace 20:31 that you've been given this talent. 20:34 And to see you use it so wisely is just awesome. 20:38 And I want to thank you. I appreciate. 20:40 Again back to Joe. 20:42 What else can we talk about with this big teddy bear? 20:46 Big Joe? He is full of love. 20:50 And, you know, he is to me, he demonstrates 20:55 really the kind of people I love to see 20:58 come through with that openness, 21:00 that genuineness, ready to listen, you know, 21:02 as the health begins to work in his life, 21:05 he opens up spiritually, 21:06 and he blossomed right there with us. 21:10 And what I love about Big Joe was his honesty. 21:13 It was almost towards the end when we had our, you know, 21:16 towards the end of the second week 21:17 we had that call for really rebaptism. 21:20 And, you know, I've been here for what 9 months now. 21:24 We've had 200 people come through NEWSTART, 21:26 of those 200 people, 168 of them 21:29 have come to the Fresh Start program. 21:31 And of those 168, we've had 27 of those people 21:35 either baptized, re-baptized, 21:38 or attending their local Seventh-day Adventist Church, 21:41 or in serious Bible studies. 21:43 That's like a 16% revival in the church. 21:49 And that's in an 18-day turnaround. 21:52 So could you imagine Big Joes like that in every church, 21:55 everywhere in all of our sister churches. 21:59 I mean this health message has a power in it 22:01 unlike anything else that I've ever seen of 22:04 13 years in the ministry, in the dry desert 22:07 of doing whatever I can do, 22:10 it has been a blessing to come here and see 22:12 how health really works together 22:14 with the gospel with the spiritual tool 22:16 to bring people like Big Joe into these decisions 22:19 and have a revived life. 22:21 Amen. 22:22 Thank you, Brother. 22:24 Thank you, Friend. God bless you. 22:25 And, friends, thank you too. 22:27 But don't go away Dr. Nedley is up next. 23:06 Welcome to NEWSTART Now. 23:07 I'm Dr. Neil Nedley, president of Weimar Institute. 23:10 And with me today is Dr. Eddie Ramirez, 23:13 physician, researcher, and author of 23:16 a number of peer-reviewed scientific studies. 23:20 He also teaches in our college, and many of our young people 23:23 are learning how to do research in nutrition 23:27 and actually getting published in peer-reviewed trials. 23:30 And so we're very grateful to have you here 23:32 at Weimar Institute, Dr. Ramirez. 23:35 And one of the big questions as physicians that we have is, 23:40 how can we get people to be compliant? 23:43 You know, even when we prescribe them a medicine, 23:47 there's a large percentage of the public 23:49 that just won't even fill it or take it, 23:52 and much less how do you get somebody to exercise? 23:56 You know, exercise is actually we know good for us, 23:59 physical exercise is good. 24:01 And sometimes we write out 24:03 a physical exercise prescription, 24:06 but that isn't enough to get people 24:08 off of the couch and moving. 24:10 And so this study actually has to do 24:13 with the effects of exercise on mental health, 24:17 particularly depression. 24:19 And how many people was it looking at, Dr. Ramirez? 24:24 And also where did this get published? 24:27 This is 5,221 people 24:31 from literally all over the place and... 24:34 All over the world. 24:36 All over the world and this study is going to be 24:39 coming up later on in the British Journal 24:43 of Sports Medicine. 24:44 Okay. 24:45 So published in the British Journal 24:47 of Sports Medicine, of course, they're interested as well 24:49 as to how we can get people to exercise. 24:52 And so what did we find out out of these over 5,000 people 24:56 that came to the depression and anxiety recovery program? 25:01 The community version. 25:02 It's the community version of the Nedley Depression 25:04 and Anxiety Recovery Program. 25:06 A program that you can actually do at home 25:08 or you can sign up to do it in a community 25:11 if one is being run in your area, 25:14 you might look it up, but what did we find out? 25:17 Well, we actually could predict how depressed the person was 25:21 according to what exercise pattern they had. 25:25 Those people that did not have a regular exercise program, 25:30 had the worst mental health indices, 25:33 according to the study. 25:34 And those people that were that severely depressed, 25:38 as they passed through the eight-week program, 25:41 started implementing all the aspects 25:44 of their lifestyle, by the end of the program, 25:47 if you were able to get in that exercise pattern, 25:51 by the end you could be among those 25:53 that had the best results and no depression anymore. 25:57 You know, Dr. John Ratey, psychiatrist from Harvard, 26:02 has done some studies on exercise as well. 26:05 And he stated that exercise is actually more 26:08 for our brain than it is our body. 26:11 And this study actually goes along with that. 26:13 So the most severely depressed people 26:16 exercise the least, 26:18 and if they want to improve the most 26:20 it's not just exercise, there is other things 26:22 that they learn in the program but if they exercise the most 26:25 and they get more fit, they're going to have 26:27 some very good response in the eight-week program. 26:30 And not only the depression, 26:32 anxiety also improved the most among those 26:35 that were able to implement the exercise. 26:37 And also a nice side effect, emotional intelligence, 26:40 your ability to motivate yourself 26:43 and get along with others also improved the most 26:46 with those people that improve the most 26:49 in their exercise patterns. 26:51 Anxiety is known to be more difficult 26:53 to treat than depression. 26:54 And so that's pretty dramatic. 26:56 So the anxiety improved, 26:58 emotional intelligence scores improved 27:00 and that means your future success and happiness. 27:03 And so this program actually was shown 27:06 to help people be compliant with things 27:09 that they tend not to be compliant with, 27:12 like exercise and diet. 27:14 And that's why it was accepted for publication 27:16 in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. 27:19 So if you know someone who needs to change 27:21 their lifestyle and improve their mental health, 27:25 a great way of changing them is getting them the Depression 27:30 and Anxiety Recovery Program, maybe the home base version, 27:34 maybe sending them to a community based version. 27:36 Or if they're not going to do that 27:38 come to Weimar itself, and get the residential version, 27:41 and change your brain for the better. 27:44 I'm Dr. Neil Nedley. This is NEWSTART Now. 27:48 Join us again next week for another exciting study. |
