Talk about watery grave. 00:06:45.40\00:06:48.07 Man, this is going to be a resurrection, all right. 00:06:48.10\00:06:51.17 Big Joe. Yeah. 00:06:51.21\00:06:52.64 Because of your desire. Yes. 00:06:52.67\00:06:54.88 To enter into that door we spoke of the death. 00:06:54.91\00:06:57.71 Leave your old self behind to be resurrected 00:06:57.75\00:06:59.91 in the power of Holy Spirit. 00:06:59.95\00:07:02.02 We now baptize you in name the Father, 00:07:02.05\00:07:04.35 the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 00:07:04.39\00:07:06.86 Amen. 00:07:06.89\00:07:12.66 Amen. 00:07:22.74\00:07:24.07 You know, 00:07:24.11\00:07:26.07 no truer words have ever been spoken 00:07:26.11\00:07:27.98 and I have read this morning in our quarterly hub, 00:07:28.01\00:07:31.71 Peter got out of the boat 00:07:31.75\00:07:34.95 and he was walking on water towards Jesus, 00:07:34.98\00:07:37.65 but then he took his eyes off of Jesus, 00:07:37.69\00:07:40.16 and you know the rest. 00:07:40.19\00:07:41.82 He's sunk and he said, "Jesus, help me." 00:07:41.86\00:07:45.29 And this is the life that we live, 00:07:45.33\00:07:49.30 we take our eyes off the Lord and we start to sink, 00:07:49.33\00:07:52.00 but then we cry out, and He reaches out His hand, 00:07:52.03\00:07:55.00 and lifts us out of despair. 00:07:55.04\00:07:57.24 And that's what you just said to me. 00:07:57.27\00:07:58.94 That's right. Yeah. 00:07:58.97\00:08:00.31 You can do nothing without Him. 00:08:00.34\00:08:02.48 Okay, now let me ask you a question. 00:08:02.51\00:08:04.48 Yeah. 00:08:04.51\00:08:05.85 Aside from me, 00:08:05.88\00:08:08.18 who's your favorite person here? 00:08:08.22\00:08:10.12 No, I didn't mean to say it that way. 00:08:10.15\00:08:12.15 What impressed you the most of our program? 00:08:12.19\00:08:17.33 Oh, man, you have a really comprehensive program. 00:08:17.36\00:08:20.40 The fact that you're even out in the country, 00:08:20.43\00:08:22.96 and the mountain scenery, 00:08:23.00\00:08:24.67 you take someone out of the city, 00:08:24.70\00:08:26.50 because I'm accustomed to the pollution, the smog, 00:08:26.53\00:08:30.37 and everything and I'm out of the urban area 00:08:30.41\00:08:33.14 and to a country scenery, 00:08:33.17\00:08:34.91 a quiet beautiful mountainous region. 00:08:34.94\00:08:39.28 I'm drinking, you know, eating healthy food, water. 00:08:39.31\00:08:43.92 I'm meeting people from all over the country 00:08:43.95\00:08:46.45 that has different ailments but we all have the same goal. 00:08:46.49\00:08:51.16 I'm in an environment. This environment is so... 00:08:51.19\00:08:53.60 I mean the rooms, the beds are so comfortable. 00:08:53.63\00:08:56.30 It's very rare that I find the bed... 00:08:56.33\00:08:58.63 So you're pretty impressed about the whole thing. 00:08:58.67\00:09:00.97 Yes, the whole entire, the lodge is very comfortable, 00:09:01.00\00:09:04.61 and accommodating. 00:09:04.64\00:09:06.31 The people are so, the workers are so friendly, 00:09:06.34\00:09:10.58 and they're really loving and cooperative. 00:09:10.61\00:09:12.95 And, you know, everybody is there to assist you. 00:09:12.98\00:09:16.75 What about your doctor? Was he accommodating? 00:09:16.79\00:09:20.26 Oh, most definitely. He is definitely. 00:09:20.29\00:09:22.82 And that is Dr. Lukens? Dr. Lukens. 00:09:22.86\00:09:25.73 Yes, my doctor. 00:09:25.76\00:09:27.10 Did you find him different than the doctors off campus? 00:09:27.13\00:09:31.00 Oh, yeah. 00:09:31.03\00:09:33.34 Dr. Lukens and, you know, also Dr. Gallant, 00:09:33.37\00:09:38.41 these guys are really... 00:09:38.44\00:09:40.78 The doctors that I've noticed here are very, 00:09:40.81\00:09:43.85 they're oriented as far as getting cured 00:09:43.88\00:09:47.88 but in a holistic way 00:09:47.92\00:09:49.82 and doing it by eating healthier 00:09:49.85\00:09:52.92 and eliminating the fats in our diet 00:09:52.95\00:09:55.66 and things of that nature, 00:09:55.69\00:09:57.03 which is very unusual whereas other doctors 00:09:57.06\00:10:00.66 outside of this place are more into pharmaceuticals 00:10:00.70\00:10:05.17 and just giving you drugs to try it 00:10:05.20\00:10:07.70 and it doesn't actually take care of the problem. 00:10:07.74\00:10:10.31 It just takes care of the symptoms 00:10:10.34\00:10:14.31 of what's going on but it doesn't address 00:10:14.34\00:10:17.01 the underlying issue which the doctors here 00:10:17.05\00:10:20.72 addressed the underlining prevention altogether 00:10:20.75\00:10:24.02 and if we can prevent this, we don't even have to worry 00:10:24.05\00:10:27.12 about dealing with these things. 00:10:27.16\00:10:29.82 Joe, I want to thank you for joining us here. 00:10:29.86\00:10:33.46 We've run out of time. It has to be. 00:12:38.15\00:12:40.36 Otherwise, these things just didn't work. 00:12:40.39\00:12:42.46 Yeah. 00:12:42.49\00:12:43.89 So Big Joe, what a guy. 00:12:43.93\00:12:46.63 Big. 00:12:46.66\00:12:48.00 Man, yeah, he's big. 00:12:48.03\00:12:49.60 He picked me up, and he shook me 00:12:49.63\00:12:51.47 like a rag doll. 00:12:51.50\00:12:52.83 Yeah, yeah. 00:12:52.87\00:12:54.20 And then he did this with a couple of our staff members. 00:12:54.24\00:12:57.84 He picked up two of them at the same time. 00:12:57.87\00:13:00.41 This guy is huge and strong for a guy 00:13:00.44\00:13:03.11 with all those problems though. 00:13:03.14\00:13:05.65 You know, we got to get him in good shape. 00:13:05.68\00:13:08.98 He is in better shape today... 00:13:09.02\00:13:10.59 Oh, yeah. Yeah, he is. 00:13:10.62\00:13:11.95 Than he was when he got here. Wouldn't you say? 00:13:11.99\00:13:14.12 Well, one of the things that was really bothering him 00:13:14.16\00:13:17.29 is that his legs were so swollen. 00:13:17.33\00:13:19.93 And so I took my thumb as we do and pressed 00:13:19.96\00:13:24.00 on what we call the pretibial area or the shin 00:13:24.03\00:13:27.60 and I got all the way up to his knee, 00:13:27.64\00:13:29.47 and he still had more... 00:13:29.50\00:13:31.51 Indents staying in there. Yeah. 00:13:31.54\00:13:33.81 And then we always talk about this 00:13:33.84\00:13:37.45 when the heart gets strong, 00:13:37.48\00:13:39.45 it's able to pump through the kidneys 00:13:39.48\00:13:42.28 and I could see his eyes going like that 00:13:42.32\00:13:44.29 because he lost a lot of weight 00:13:44.32\00:13:46.82 from one Monday to the next, you know. 00:13:46.86\00:13:48.89 Yes. 00:13:48.92\00:13:50.46 But he must have gained more muscle at the same time. 00:13:50.49\00:13:52.99 Well, he did. 00:13:53.03\00:13:54.36 So after he lost the water, then he didn't lose as much 00:13:54.40\00:13:57.63 because he was doing pretty good exercise. 00:13:57.67\00:14:00.70 One time I said, "Joe, 00:14:00.74\00:14:03.47 look if you're going to talk to somebody, 00:14:03.51\00:14:06.94 get out on the loop and walk and stuff like it. 00:14:06.98\00:14:10.75 So he was still talking pictures, you know, 00:14:10.78\00:14:13.31 picking people up as a joke. 00:14:13.35\00:14:15.92 And then I took him by the hand, you know, 00:14:15.95\00:14:18.15 sort of and I said let's go walk 00:14:18.19\00:14:21.32 because sometimes, you know, 00:14:21.36\00:14:22.69 his blood pressure would go way up. 00:14:22.72\00:14:24.33 Oh, yeah. 00:14:24.36\00:14:25.79 You know, our heart has to pump through all of our body, 00:14:25.83\00:14:28.10 we can't just say "Well, today the right leg 00:14:28.13\00:14:31.10 isn't going to get any circulation. 00:14:31.13\00:14:33.54 So that's the reason why he was failing. 00:14:33.57\00:14:35.54 But he has a pretty healthy appetite 00:14:35.57\00:14:39.87 if you want to say healthy. 00:14:39.91\00:14:42.51 It's beyond healthy. It's beyond. 00:14:42.54\00:14:44.41 Yeah, you know, he wanted to go, 00:14:44.45\00:14:46.11 see Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:14:46.15\00:14:50.02 Oh, yeah, yeah. You took him down there. 00:14:50.05\00:14:51.52 And so I took him down there. 00:14:51.55\00:14:53.42 And he picked him up and say, "Hi, Pastor." 00:14:53.46\00:14:55.52 Well, he didn't pick him up. 00:14:55.56\00:14:56.89 But amazingly, all he wanted to do is meet people. 00:14:56.93\00:14:59.76 He is saying hello to everybody. 00:14:59.79\00:15:02.50 He was just like the celebrity, you know. 00:15:02.53\00:15:05.20 He's quite an amazing guy. 00:15:05.23\00:15:07.60 Yeah, he is. 00:15:07.64\00:15:08.97 And I've learned to love him. 00:15:09.00\00:15:10.34 But I got to cut him short because he takes the show. 00:15:10.37\00:15:14.21 I mean you saw the baptism 00:15:14.24\00:15:16.14 which we showed our friends here. 00:15:16.18\00:15:18.55 And he had everybody on top of the mountain. 00:15:18.58\00:15:21.02 He wanted everybody to take a picture with him. 00:15:21.05\00:15:23.35 There were 125 people there. 00:15:23.39\00:15:26.35 And everybody had to be there with Big Joe. 00:15:26.39\00:15:28.62 Yeah. That's right. 00:15:28.66\00:15:30.13 You know, one of the things that I don't know, 00:15:30.16\00:15:33.66 he said that he is a literature evangelist, 00:15:33.70\00:15:35.53 but he said they bring in these truckloads of extra books 00:15:35.56\00:15:41.30 or, you know, people are wanting everything online now, 00:15:41.34\00:15:44.71 so books are not as big as they used to. 00:15:44.74\00:15:47.41 And then he helps people to learn 00:15:47.44\00:15:50.21 how to give the books out and to engage people. 00:15:50.25\00:15:53.08 He isn't just like, you know, like this. 00:15:53.11\00:15:55.75 He talks to them a little bit and finds out 00:15:55.78\00:15:58.55 and then he canvassed one of our staff that... 00:15:58.59\00:16:01.82 Oh, he told you. Yeah. 00:16:01.86\00:16:03.19 He said well what church you go to, 00:16:03.22\00:16:05.03 and what do you know about the Bible, 00:16:05.06\00:16:07.20 and then he said, "Well, 00:16:07.23\00:16:08.56 I'm going to give you this book, will you read it? 00:16:08.60\00:16:10.27 And she says, "Yeah. Yeah, I'll read it, you know." 00:16:10.30\00:16:13.94 So that's good, you know. 00:16:13.97\00:16:15.67 He is little intimidating though, 00:16:15.70\00:16:17.11 don't you think? 00:16:17.14\00:16:18.47 Well, his size has something to do with it. 00:16:18.51\00:16:20.08 This guy is towering over you saying, 00:16:20.11\00:16:21.61 you will read this, won't you? 00:16:21.64\00:16:23.04 But here the thing is that people that are like that 00:16:23.08\00:16:27.15 when they can get a hold of this 00:16:27.18\00:16:30.89 and actually do the whole plant foods eating the whole, 00:16:30.92\00:16:35.79 and then they're just like some of the pastors 00:16:35.82\00:16:40.63 from other churches that have come here. 00:16:40.66\00:16:42.63 And the people are saying, "You've got to tell me, pastor, 00:16:42.66\00:16:45.53 how did you do it," you know. 00:16:45.57\00:16:47.44 Some of the people are well-known in the country, 00:16:47.47\00:16:50.81 you know, and it's wonderful because 00:16:50.84\00:16:53.07 then when a person starts getting some victories 00:16:53.11\00:16:57.98 in their life in the area of health, 00:16:58.01\00:17:00.58 then they say, "You know, Lord, You can help me with, 00:17:00.62\00:17:04.09 you know, my temper, or my other addictions, 00:17:04.12\00:17:07.82 or whatever," and then that's a wonderful thing. 00:17:07.86\00:17:11.26 That's why we're here. 00:17:11.29\00:17:12.89 I think he's done remarkably well. 00:17:12.93\00:17:14.73 You're his doctor. 00:17:14.76\00:17:16.13 I know he's had so many issues and, you know, 00:17:16.16\00:17:20.10 he's taken so much medication 00:17:20.14\00:17:22.47 with all these different things. 00:17:22.50\00:17:24.01 But he tells me that he's continuing on the path. 00:17:24.04\00:17:28.48 He's going to be a poster child for the NEWSTART program, 00:17:28.51\00:17:32.78 and we need to follow up on him. 00:17:32.81\00:17:34.28 Yeah, we do. 00:17:34.32\00:17:35.65 Did he say how much he's walking 00:17:35.68\00:17:37.09 'cause that's a main thing for him? 00:17:37.12\00:17:38.79 He told me he is cut back a little 00:17:38.82\00:17:41.09 but I said you got to walk. 00:17:41.12\00:17:42.96 Anyway we're out of time. 00:17:42.99\00:17:45.16 Our time, soon when you're having fun, 00:17:45.19\00:17:46.56 what happens. 00:17:46.59\00:17:47.93 Doctor, thank you so much. Yeah. 00:17:47.96\00:17:49.53 Everybody, pray for Big Joe. Pray for Big Joe. 00:17:49.56\00:17:52.37 Actually, Joe 00:17:52.40\00:17:54.20 'cause we don't want him to be big anymore. 00:17:54.24\00:17:55.57 No. He's always going to be tall. 00:17:55.60\00:17:57.61 But, friends, don't go away. Pastor Snead is up next. 00:17:57.64\00:18:00.84 Welcome back, friends. 00:18:04.45\00:18:06.15 Help me welcome Pastor Snead. 00:18:06.18\00:18:08.68 How are you doing? I'm doing good, Brother. 00:18:08.72\00:18:10.82 You know, I just found out today 00:18:10.85\00:18:12.19 you had some Italian blood in you. 00:18:12.22\00:18:13.56 Yes, sir. 00:18:13.59\00:18:14.92 So I got to relate to you a little different. 00:18:14.96\00:18:17.53 But I want our viewers to know that 00:18:17.56\00:18:21.46 you are newest pastor. 00:18:21.50\00:18:23.16 And you've been here since June of 2016. 00:18:23.20\00:18:27.30 Yes, sir. 00:18:27.34\00:18:28.67 And from my perspective you've baptized more people 00:18:28.70\00:18:32.67 in last eight months 00:18:32.71\00:18:34.41 than I think we did in the previous eight years. 00:18:34.44\00:18:37.65 So that tells me something. 00:18:37.68\00:18:40.12 The work you're doing is wonderful. 00:18:40.15\00:18:42.72 I just want to thank you, but let's talk about Joe. 00:18:42.75\00:18:45.89 Big Joe, yes. Big Joe. 00:18:45.92\00:18:48.62 What did you see herein? 00:18:48.66\00:18:50.89 Help us to understand what we're seeing in this man? 00:18:50.93\00:18:54.23 Well, Big Joe, what I've seen in Big Joe is 00:18:54.26\00:18:56.77 typical in a lot of church members, 00:18:56.80\00:18:58.53 a lot of Adventists that come through. 00:18:58.57\00:19:00.00 Big Joe was one of these guys that he came, 00:19:00.04\00:19:03.27 he's been a part of the church for a long time, 00:19:03.30\00:19:05.67 but about halfway through the program, 00:19:05.71\00:19:07.91 Big Joe began to have a spiritual revival. 00:19:07.94\00:19:11.51 The health starts working and by the second week 00:19:11.55\00:19:14.82 things are starting to change and I noticed 00:19:14.85\00:19:17.59 the first week it was kind of rough with Big Joe, 00:19:17.62\00:19:19.75 but by the second week he really began 00:19:19.79\00:19:22.42 to pay attention and come alive. 00:19:22.46\00:19:24.89 And it led to him being baptized too, 00:19:24.93\00:19:28.16 a spiritual revival for him. 00:19:28.20\00:19:30.10 That was amazing. 00:19:30.13\00:19:31.47 There had to be 150 people at that baptism. 00:19:31.50\00:19:33.70 Yeah, it was a big one for a big one. 00:19:33.74\00:19:37.41 A big one for a big one. Yeah. 00:19:37.44\00:19:39.37 I recall that you were trying 00:19:39.41\00:19:40.91 to get him out of the water there, 00:19:40.94\00:19:43.28 that took four people to get him out. 00:19:43.31\00:19:45.41 Yeah, if Kirk Krueger wouldn't have been there, 00:19:45.45\00:19:47.15 it would have been an interesting baptism. 00:19:47.18\00:19:49.78 'Cause he came out of my arms that was a handful, I had... 00:19:49.82\00:19:52.69 Yeah, such a blessing. 00:19:52.72\00:19:54.26 And, you know, we know that you had a lot to do 00:19:54.29\00:19:57.16 with that, pastor. 00:19:57.19\00:19:58.53 And, you know, to me, I want to talk about you 00:19:58.56\00:20:02.43 just for a little bit, you're such a loving man, 00:20:02.46\00:20:06.03 and I think I understand more after talking to you 00:20:06.07\00:20:10.04 a few times, but our guests that come to our program 00:20:10.07\00:20:14.68 feel that love. 00:20:14.71\00:20:16.04 They feel your sincerity and I feel that Weimar 00:20:16.08\00:20:20.32 and the NEWSTART program is blessed to have you here. 00:20:20.35\00:20:24.02 And I'm not trying to give you a big head, you know that. 00:20:24.05\00:20:28.32 And, but it's by God's grace 00:20:28.36\00:20:31.43 that you've been given this talent. 00:20:31.46\00:20:34.03 And to see you use it so wisely is just awesome. 00:20:34.06\00:20:38.40 And I want to thank you. I appreciate. 00:20:38.43\00:20:40.54 Again back to Joe. 00:20:40.57\00:20:42.00 What else can we talk about with this big teddy bear? 00:20:42.04\00:20:46.17 Big Joe? He is full of love. 00:20:46.21\00:20:50.81 And, you know, he is to me, he demonstrates 00:20:50.85\00:20:55.08 really the kind of people I love to see 00:20:55.12\00:20:58.19 come through with that openness, 00:20:58.22\00:21:00.22 that genuineness, ready to listen, you know, 00:21:00.26\00:21:02.96 as the health begins to work in his life, 00:21:02.99\00:21:05.03 he opens up spiritually, 00:21:05.06\00:21:06.66 and he blossomed right there with us. 00:21:06.70\00:21:10.13 And what I love about Big Joe was his honesty. 00:21:10.17\00:21:13.80 It was almost towards the end when we had our, you know, 00:21:13.84\00:21:16.34 towards the end of the second week 00:21:16.37\00:21:17.71 we had that call for really rebaptism. 00:21:17.74\00:21:20.64 And, you know, I've been here for what 9 months now. 00:21:20.68\00:21:24.38 We've had 200 people come through NEWSTART, 00:21:24.41\00:21:26.82 of those 200 people, 168 of them 00:21:26.85\00:21:29.78 have come to the Fresh Start program. 00:21:29.82\00:21:31.59 And of those 168, we've had 27 of those people 00:21:31.62\00:21:35.32 either baptized, re-baptized, 00:21:35.36\00:21:38.29 or attending their local Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:21:38.33\00:21:41.76 or in serious Bible studies. 00:21:41.80\00:21:43.63 That's like a 16% revival in the church. 00:21:43.67\00:21:49.34 And that's in an 18-day turnaround. 00:21:49.37\00:21:52.31 So could you imagine Big Joes like that in every church, 00:21:52.34\00:21:55.94 everywhere in all of our sister churches. 00:21:55.98\00:21:59.11 I mean this health message has a power in it 00:21:59.15\00:22:01.58 unlike anything else that I've ever seen of 00:22:01.62\00:22:04.15 13 years in the ministry, in the dry desert 00:22:04.19\00:22:07.69 of doing whatever I can do, 00:22:07.72\00:22:10.53 it has been a blessing to come here and see 00:22:10.56\00:22:12.56 how health really works together 00:22:12.59\00:22:14.83 with the gospel with the spiritual tool 00:22:14.86\00:22:16.83 to bring people like Big Joe into these decisions 00:22:16.87\00:22:19.73 and have a revived life. 00:22:19.77\00:22:21.34 Amen. 00:22:21.37\00:22:22.90 Thank you, Brother. 00:22:22.94\00:22:24.27 Thank you, Friend. God bless you. 00:22:24.31\00:22:25.64 And, friends, thank you too. 00:22:25.67\00:22:27.01 But don't go away Dr. Nedley is up next. 00:22:27.04\00:22:29.91 Welcome to NEWSTART Now. 00:23:06.08\00:23:07.68 I'm Dr. Neil Nedley, president of Weimar Institute. 00:23:07.72\00:23:10.59 And with me today is Dr. Eddie Ramirez, 00:23:10.62\00:23:13.05 physician, researcher, and author of 00:23:13.09\00:23:16.22 a number of peer-reviewed scientific studies. 00:23:16.26\00:23:20.03 He also teaches in our college, and many of our young people 00:23:20.06\00:23:23.47 are learning how to do research in nutrition 00:23:23.50\00:23:27.40 and actually getting published in peer-reviewed trials. 00:23:27.44\00:23:30.27 And so we're very grateful to have you here 00:23:30.31\00:23:32.94 at Weimar Institute, Dr. Ramirez. 00:23:32.97\00:23:35.18 And one of the big questions as physicians that we have is, 00:23:35.21\00:23:40.12 how can we get people to be compliant? 00:23:40.15\00:23:43.75 You know, even when we prescribe them a medicine, 00:23:43.79\00:23:47.76 there's a large percentage of the public 00:23:47.79\00:23:49.69 that just won't even fill it or take it, 00:23:49.72\00:23:52.43 and much less how do you get somebody to exercise? 00:23:52.46\00:23:56.77 You know, exercise is actually we know good for us, 00:23:56.80\00:23:59.87 physical exercise is good. 00:23:59.90\00:24:01.64 And sometimes we write out 00:24:01.67\00:24:03.51 a physical exercise prescription, 00:24:03.54\00:24:06.41 but that isn't enough to get people 00:24:06.44\00:24:08.88 off of the couch and moving. 00:24:08.91\00:24:10.78 And so this study actually has to do 00:24:10.81\00:24:13.35 with the effects of exercise on mental health, 00:24:13.38\00:24:17.75 particularly depression. 00:24:17.79\00:24:19.95 And how many people was it looking at, Dr. Ramirez? 00:24:19.99\00:24:24.26 And also where did this get published? 00:24:24.29\00:24:27.10 This is 5,221 people 00:24:27.13\00:24:31.90 from literally all over the place and... 00:24:31.93\00:24:34.60 All over the world. 00:24:34.64\00:24:35.97 All over the world and this study is going to be 00:24:36.00\00:24:39.17 coming up later on in the British Journal 00:24:39.21\00:24:43.14 of Sports Medicine. 00:24:43.18\00:24:44.55 Okay. 00:24:44.58\00:24:45.91 So published in the British Journal 00:24:45.95\00:24:47.28 of Sports Medicine, of course, they're interested as well 00:24:47.32\00:24:49.68 as to how we can get people to exercise. 00:24:49.72\00:24:52.52 And so what did we find out out of these over 5,000 people 00:24:52.55\00:24:56.96 that came to the depression and anxiety recovery program? 00:24:56.99\00:25:01.10 The community version. 00:25:01.13\00:25:02.46 It's the community version of the Nedley Depression 00:25:02.50\00:25:04.73 and Anxiety Recovery Program. 00:25:04.77\00:25:06.67 A program that you can actually do at home 00:25:06.70\00:25:08.94 or you can sign up to do it in a community 00:25:08.97\00:25:11.71 if one is being run in your area, 00:25:11.74\00:25:14.31 you might look it up, but what did we find out? 00:25:14.34\00:25:17.18 Well, we actually could predict how depressed the person was 00:25:17.21\00:25:21.82 according to what exercise pattern they had. 00:25:21.85\00:25:25.55 Those people that did not have a regular exercise program, 00:25:25.59\00:25:30.43 had the worst mental health indices, 00:25:30.46\00:25:33.36 according to the study. 00:25:33.40\00:25:34.80 And those people that were that severely depressed, 00:25:34.83\00:25:38.57 as they passed through the eight-week program, 00:25:38.60\00:25:41.70 started implementing all the aspects 00:25:41.74\00:25:43.97 of their lifestyle, by the end of the program, 00:25:44.01\00:25:47.51 if you were able to get in that exercise pattern, 00:25:47.54\00:25:51.58 by the end you could be among those 00:25:51.61\00:25:53.72 that had the best results and no depression anymore. 00:25:53.75\00:25:57.59 You know, Dr. John Ratey, psychiatrist from Harvard, 00:25:57.62\00:26:02.26 has done some studies on exercise as well. 00:26:02.29\00:26:05.46 And he stated that exercise is actually more 00:26:05.49\00:26:08.56 for our brain than it is our body. 00:26:08.60\00:26:11.23 And this study actually goes along with that. 00:26:11.27\00:26:13.64 So the most severely depressed people 00:26:13.67\00:26:16.24 exercise the least, 00:26:16.27\00:26:17.97 and if they want to improve the most 00:26:18.01\00:26:20.48 it's not just exercise, there is other things 00:26:20.51\00:26:22.41 that they learn in the program but if they exercise the most 00:26:22.44\00:26:25.41 and they get more fit, they're going to have 00:26:25.45\00:26:27.95 some very good response in the eight-week program. 00:26:27.98\00:26:30.59 And not only the depression, 00:26:30.62\00:26:31.99 anxiety also improved the most among those 00:26:32.02\00:26:35.22 that were able to implement the exercise. 00:26:35.26\00:26:37.69 And also a nice side effect, emotional intelligence, 00:26:37.73\00:26:40.83 your ability to motivate yourself 00:26:40.86\00:26:43.16 and get along with others also improved the most 00:26:43.20\00:26:46.80 with those people that improve the most 00:26:46.84\00:26:49.27 in their exercise patterns. 00:26:49.30\00:26:51.14 Anxiety is known to be more difficult 00:26:51.17\00:26:53.07 to treat than depression. 00:26:53.11\00:26:54.91 And so that's pretty dramatic. 00:26:54.94\00:26:56.38 So the anxiety improved, 00:26:56.41\00:26:58.28 emotional intelligence scores improved 00:26:58.31\00:27:00.82 and that means your future success and happiness. 00:27:00.85\00:27:03.69 And so this program actually was shown 00:27:03.72\00:27:06.35 to help people be compliant with things 00:27:06.39\00:27:09.92 that they tend not to be compliant with, 00:27:09.96\00:27:12.26 like exercise and diet. 00:27:12.29\00:27:14.56 And that's why it was accepted for publication 00:27:14.60\00:27:16.93 in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. 00:27:16.97\00:27:19.73 So if you know someone who needs to change 00:27:19.77\00:27:21.84 their lifestyle and improve their mental health, 00:27:21.87\00:27:25.51 a great way of changing them is getting them the Depression 00:27:25.54\00:27:30.05 and Anxiety Recovery Program, maybe the home base version, 00:27:30.08\00:27:34.35 maybe sending them to a community based version. 00:27:34.38\00:27:36.95 Or if they're not going to do that 00:27:36.99\00:27:38.39 come to Weimar itself, and get the residential version, 00:27:38.42\00:27:41.29 and change your brain for the better. 00:27:41.32\00:27:44.69 I'm Dr. Neil Nedley. This is NEWSTART Now. 00:27:44.73\00:27:48.13 Join us again next week for another exciting study. 00:27:48.16\00:27:50.83
