Gone. 00:03:30.31\00:03:33.38 I would have to, I used the... 00:03:33.41\00:03:36.41 Twice a day I would have to use the oral medication. 00:03:36.44\00:03:39.75 And that was another in addition, 00:03:39.78\00:03:42.08 and then still on hypertension medication 00:03:42.12\00:03:44.85 they had barely diagnosed me with a high blood pressure. 00:03:44.89\00:03:47.36 Okay. 00:03:47.39\00:03:48.72 But as I continued to do the exercise, 00:03:48.76\00:03:50.86 everything has, you know, exercise, 00:03:50.89\00:03:52.86 drinking the water, everything has, 00:03:52.89\00:03:54.50 everything has changed. 00:03:54.53\00:03:55.86 But you got to go on dialysis, right? 00:03:55.90\00:03:58.07 No. You don't? 00:03:58.10\00:03:59.43 No, not on dialysis. Yeah. 00:04:28.93\00:04:30.27 And I heard from you 00:04:30.30\00:04:31.83 before we started this interview, 00:04:31.87\00:04:33.94 you've already walked six miles and it's 11 am in the morning. 00:04:33.97\00:04:37.74 Already. 00:04:37.77\00:04:39.11 And your husband is saying, 00:04:39.14\00:04:40.48 "How are you gonna do that when you get back home?" 00:04:40.51\00:04:42.38 I know. 00:04:42.41\00:04:43.75 And you said what? You're gonna do what? 00:04:43.78\00:04:45.38 I'm just gonna keep at it. 00:04:45.41\00:04:46.78 You know, every moment I have, every chance I have, 00:04:46.82\00:04:49.08 put in a mile, an extra mile until I'm done. 00:04:49.12\00:04:53.15 But I've been walking the six miles already, 00:04:53.19\00:04:56.93 but I'm closer to the eight miles a day. 00:04:56.96\00:04:59.36 Really? 00:04:59.39\00:05:00.73 So by the time I'm done, it's closely to an eight mile, 00:05:00.76\00:05:03.37 which I couldn't even do that. 00:05:03.40\00:05:04.73 It was just like maybe two miles the most. 00:05:04.77\00:05:09.37 And I was just tired still. 00:05:09.40\00:05:11.67 You know, I was just like 00:05:11.71\00:05:13.04 trying to drag myself up the little hills. 00:05:13.07\00:05:17.05 But now you're doing great. Oh, yes. 00:05:17.08\00:05:19.51 How much weight have you lost? 00:05:19.55\00:05:21.02 I've lost a total of 10 pounds. 00:05:21.05\00:05:23.42 Awesome, in 18 days. 00:05:23.45\00:05:25.55 In 18 days. 00:05:25.59\00:05:26.92 Okay, well, you realized that when you lose fat, 00:05:26.96\00:05:32.39 you may have lost 15 or 20 pounds of fat. 00:05:32.43\00:05:36.93 Then you gain what? 00:05:36.97\00:05:38.60 Muscle, right? Muscle. 00:05:38.63\00:05:39.97 So it's hard to determine how much fat we lose 00:05:40.00\00:05:43.30 when we go through this program 00:05:43.34\00:05:45.14 because we don't do the wane and the water type thing. 00:05:45.17\00:05:48.78 But you're doing marvelous. 00:05:48.81\00:05:50.55 But I feel inches off. 00:05:50.58\00:05:52.01 So my clothes are fitting loose so that's what they told me 00:05:52.05\00:05:55.75 that you will start if you, 00:05:55.78\00:05:57.12 even though that you couldn't tell you, 00:05:57.15\00:05:58.75 you feel it on your clothes. 00:05:58.79\00:06:00.12 I'm like "Wow! Yeah. 00:06:10.67\00:06:12.60 So you can fit into those after a while. 00:06:12.63\00:06:14.94 Yes. 00:06:14.97\00:06:16.30 So what was your favorite part of the program? 00:06:16.34\00:06:20.34 The favorite part of the program 00:06:20.38\00:06:21.98 was being able to be around doctors, 00:06:22.01\00:06:26.48 around the staff. 00:06:26.51\00:06:28.08 You know, they keep on pushing you and, you know, 00:06:28.12\00:06:31.09 encouraging you every day, you know, 00:06:31.12\00:06:33.72 and that was my favorite part. 00:06:33.76\00:06:35.09 Being able to, you know, have lunch with them, 00:06:35.12\00:06:38.09 walk with them, you know, 00:06:38.13\00:06:40.86 just be around them if you needed anything. 00:06:40.90\00:06:42.43 Have you ever been to a doctor where they prayed with you, 00:06:42.46\00:06:45.53 then took you out for a walk, invited you into their home, 00:06:45.57\00:06:49.54 walk with you, and eat breakfast and lunch? 00:06:49.57\00:06:51.91 Have you ever... Is that ever happened to you? 00:06:51.94\00:06:53.44 No, no, that has never happened. 00:06:53.48\00:06:55.41 Never happened to me until I got here. 00:06:55.44\00:06:57.11 No, no, until you get here. 00:11:11.13\00:11:13.94 Obesity and diabetes are the cause of 00:11:13.97\00:11:15.80 over a million deaths per year. 00:11:15.84\00:11:18.17 Most diseases are reversible 00:11:18.21\00:11:20.24 because most diseases are lifestyle diseases, 00:11:20.28\00:11:23.21 especially type 2 diabetes and chronic obesity. 00:11:23.24\00:11:26.61 Seriously now, they can be reversed 00:11:26.65\00:11:28.88 and the quality of your life can be renewed. 00:11:28.92\00:11:32.45 Call NEWSTART Today at 18005259192. 00:11:32.49\00:11:38.69 You will see dramatic changes 00:11:38.73\00:11:40.23 in the first few days at our program. 00:11:40.26\00:11:42.26 And you will be on the road 00:11:42.30\00:11:43.63 to a better more robust quality of life. 00:11:43.67\00:11:46.33 The NEWSTART programs are simple and effective. 00:11:46.37\00:11:49.34 Welcome back, friends, 00:11:52.37\00:11:53.71 Dr. Lukens in the house with us. 00:11:53.74\00:11:55.64 Yeah. 00:11:55.68\00:11:57.01 You know, I'm told 00:11:57.05\00:11:58.38 you're such a good basketball player. 00:11:58.41\00:12:00.35 That is way, way over stated. 00:12:00.38\00:12:04.75 But I do run, I can run. 00:12:04.79\00:12:06.65 Well, at least you're playing. 00:12:06.69\00:12:08.62 Yeah, I know, it's good, sometimes but... 00:12:08.66\00:12:10.46 Cynthia said, "You play basketball." 00:12:10.49\00:12:12.09 I said, I know. 00:12:12.13\00:12:13.46 Well, yeah, I do, but I over do it, you know. 00:12:13.50\00:12:17.17 Now it's surprising because some of these kids 00:12:17.20\00:12:20.54 really run fast, and I try to run after them. 00:12:20.57\00:12:22.94 Yeah, but we're not kids anymore. 00:12:22.97\00:12:25.57 Oh, nuts. 00:12:25.61\00:12:28.04 We got to go out and hit the ball. 00:12:28.08\00:12:29.58 We got to go and hit the ball. 00:12:29.61\00:12:30.95 Yeah, yeah, that's... 00:12:30.98\00:12:32.31 My shoulder is getting better, so. 00:12:32.35\00:12:33.68 Well, that's good. 00:12:33.72\00:12:35.05 You know, a good Dr. reckon... 00:12:35.08\00:12:36.42 No, there are... 00:12:36.45\00:12:37.79 You know, okay. 00:12:37.82\00:12:39.15 Cynthia, she got here, she had all these problems. 00:12:39.19\00:12:43.76 Yes. 00:12:43.79\00:12:45.13 Her kidneys were going bad, diabetes, 00:12:45.16\00:12:49.36 high blood pressure, obesity. 00:12:49.40\00:12:51.63 She was a mess she thought. 00:12:51.67\00:12:54.07 What did you find in her? 00:12:54.10\00:12:55.44 How do you mean she thought? 00:12:55.47\00:12:56.94 She knew. 00:12:56.97\00:12:58.74 Her A1C, you know, 00:12:58.77\00:13:01.51 her sugar levels were really high 00:13:01.54\00:13:03.21 and, and she had and she did... 00:13:03.24\00:13:05.85 You know, it's such a pain in the neck 00:13:05.88\00:13:07.88 or elsewhere to be injecting, 00:13:07.92\00:13:10.49 injecting, injecting all the time. 00:13:10.52\00:13:12.39 They wanted to do daily two, give the 40 in the morning, 00:13:12.42\00:13:15.59 the 30 in the evening. 00:13:15.62\00:13:17.19 And finally, I guess 00:13:17.23\00:13:19.29 the doctors were just the doctor. 00:13:19.33\00:13:21.26 Doctors were getting just like, you know, 00:13:21.30\00:13:24.10 "Lady, are you gonna get serious sometimes 00:13:24.13\00:13:27.50 about what's going on?" 00:13:27.54\00:13:29.07 She had... 00:13:29.10\00:13:30.44 She had another medicine that she had to take, 00:13:30.47\00:13:35.61 which is supposed to help lower the blood sugar. 00:13:35.64\00:13:38.45 And then she was on the original one 00:13:38.48\00:13:42.62 that they give you, 00:13:42.65\00:13:43.99 so that she don't absorb so much sugar, 00:13:44.02\00:13:46.02 and the liver doesn't pour it out 00:13:46.05\00:13:48.22 and that thus sometimes give people diarrhea 00:13:48.26\00:13:51.39 for the rest of the time. 00:13:51.43\00:13:52.79 They are on and it's just... 00:13:52.83\00:13:54.36 So anyway we know the lifestyle is 00:13:54.40\00:13:58.13 far, far beyond anything that you can do with medications. 00:13:58.17\00:14:04.17 And the more they look into it, the more they study it, 00:14:04.21\00:14:07.81 they say, "Lifestyle is the way to treat disease, 00:14:07.84\00:14:12.48 especially the diabetes." 00:14:12.51\00:14:15.18 And they showed that in the European study, 00:14:15.22\00:14:20.26 we showed it on our Accord study 00:14:20.29\00:14:21.92 over here that, you know, 00:14:21.96\00:14:24.26 you can't bring these numbers down, 00:14:24.29\00:14:26.70 just treat the number, you know, 00:14:26.73\00:14:28.33 treat the patient and so forth. 00:14:28.36\00:14:30.20 So now what happens is that there is a push back 00:14:30.23\00:14:34.67 by the opposite of... 00:14:34.70\00:14:36.60 I don't want to call it the opposition, 00:14:36.64\00:14:38.57 but the ones that are making the medications, 00:14:38.61\00:14:40.44 and they said, "No." 00:14:40.48\00:14:41.81 But if you catch it early enough, 00:14:41.84\00:14:43.41 and this was just a few months ago. 00:14:43.45\00:14:46.08 And so they did a worldwide study. 00:14:46.11\00:14:49.32 Well, many, many side study, 00:14:49.35\00:14:52.19 and they looked at it, two doctors did. 00:14:52.22\00:14:54.26 And they went through all of these things 00:14:54.29\00:14:55.92 that they found, you know, actually those people, 00:14:55.96\00:14:59.09 when they got early treatment and so forth, 00:14:59.13\00:15:02.20 those were more like type-1 diabetics. 00:15:02.23\00:15:05.07 So that's, they did need the medications. 00:15:05.10\00:15:08.30 And other ones, 00:15:08.34\00:15:09.67 they were doing better with the type 2s. 00:15:09.70\00:15:13.17 They didn't need the medications 00:15:13.21\00:15:14.84 and they could get away from it. 00:15:14.88\00:15:16.51 Do you find from time to time the people are diagnosed 00:15:16.54\00:15:20.58 and properly, that they're not really type 1? 00:15:20.62\00:15:23.39 Well, it says it's a little bit. 00:15:23.42\00:15:24.89 You know, they, they've renamed it 00:15:24.92\00:15:26.62 because after you've been type 2 long enough, 00:15:26.65\00:15:30.69 and the ones that whipped the kidney, 00:15:30.73\00:15:33.23 then your kidney can't work as strong as it did. 00:15:33.26\00:15:35.76 And then eventually 5 to 10 years later, 00:15:35.80\00:15:38.23 you have to go on insulin. 00:15:38.27\00:15:40.07 And then you can't get your weight down 00:15:40.10\00:15:41.67 and it just kind of snowballs. 00:15:41.70\00:15:43.91 So no lifestyle and see that's what I told Cynthia. 00:15:43.94\00:15:48.64 I said, you know, "How much I asked her the first 00:15:48.68\00:15:52.01 or the second time. 00:15:52.05\00:15:53.42 How much walking do you..." 00:15:53.45\00:15:54.78 "Oh, maybe I could get up to 2 miles or 3." 00:15:54.82\00:15:59.72 I said, "By the end of the week, 00:15:59.75\00:16:01.09 I want you to be able to do more than 5. 00:16:01.12\00:16:03.56 And then next week, I want you to do 8 to 10." 00:16:03.59\00:16:06.23 And she's gonna like "Me?" 00:16:06.26\00:16:09.63 No. I said, "Yeah." 00:16:09.66\00:16:11.13 And she did it. 00:16:11.17\00:16:12.50 I know. Yeah. 00:16:12.53\00:16:13.87 I mean, she's... She walks 6 miles this morning. 00:16:13.90\00:16:15.67 Yeah, I mean, then... 00:16:15.70\00:16:17.04 And so the weight is coming off, 00:16:17.07\00:16:20.04 the fat is coming off, 00:16:20.08\00:16:21.54 the fats coming out of the liver. 00:16:21.58\00:16:23.45 She... 00:16:23.48\00:16:24.81 We took her off of all of her medications 00:16:24.85\00:16:27.02 for her diabetes before the fast. 00:16:27.05\00:16:30.55 So she starts to fast on Tuesday 00:16:30.59\00:16:34.89 and she goes through the three days. 00:16:34.92\00:16:36.52 It was kind of tough for some of the people, 00:16:36.56\00:16:38.63 but she's never gone back on him. 00:16:38.66\00:16:40.53 And her blood sugars are better than they were 00:16:40.56\00:16:43.70 when she came, quite a bit better 00:16:43.73\00:16:46.70 and she's not on any medication. 00:16:46.74\00:16:48.94 Isn't that wonderful? That is so awesome. 00:16:48.97\00:16:51.21 Yeah, that's the eight laws of health. 00:16:51.24\00:16:52.84 Amen. 00:16:52.87\00:16:54.21 What about type 3 diabetes, I'm reading about that now? 00:16:54.24\00:16:57.85 Is that just the name they put on? 00:16:57.88\00:16:59.81 Well, I think, they say to be 00:16:59.85\00:17:02.28 and the different things like that. 00:17:02.32\00:17:04.39 But what they're saying is that, you've got, 00:17:04.42\00:17:06.65 your pancreas is burned out, 00:17:06.69\00:17:10.03 and so now you have to be on insulin 00:17:10.06\00:17:11.89 the rest of your life. 00:17:11.93\00:17:13.26 And I'm not sure that... 00:17:13.29\00:17:14.80 I'm not sure if they lost the weight 00:17:14.83\00:17:16.50 that they have to be on it. 00:17:16.53\00:17:17.87 You know, but that's just the conventional wisdom 00:17:17.90\00:17:20.24 that goes around. 00:17:20.27\00:17:21.87 You know, I've learned from you over the years 00:17:21.90\00:17:24.14 that even people on dialysis, 00:17:24.17\00:17:27.18 people in kidney failure can be reversed 00:17:27.21\00:17:31.65 and get them off dialysis and strengthen their kidneys 00:17:31.68\00:17:35.65 as we have seen with many people 00:17:35.68\00:17:37.49 in the past years. 00:17:37.52\00:17:39.25 But she never had a kidney problem, does she? 00:17:39.29\00:17:42.49 Yeah. Well, it was starting. 00:17:42.52\00:17:44.49 She was starting to spill protein and so forth. 00:17:44.53\00:17:48.10 But see the thing is that, I think, they were trying to, 00:17:48.13\00:17:51.33 you know, get through towards that. 00:17:51.37\00:17:53.84 You can go on dialysis 00:17:53.87\00:17:55.34 if you keep up what you're doing, you know. 00:17:55.37\00:17:57.71 So there was some signs, but it wasn't. 00:17:57.74\00:18:00.11 You know, it wasn't like 00:18:00.14\00:18:01.48 some of the ones that are coming in. 00:18:01.51\00:18:02.84 And it hasn't been years that I've told you this 00:18:02.88\00:18:05.51 because it's only been a year 00:18:05.55\00:18:07.35 and some that they were realizing. 00:18:07.38\00:18:09.32 Hey, this is a cardio renal axis here, 00:18:09.35\00:18:13.66 and sometimes it's a heart that's failing, 00:18:13.69\00:18:16.29 and then the kidneys can't... 00:18:16.32\00:18:17.96 They can't filter 00:18:17.99\00:18:19.33 when they're not enough blood coming through. 00:18:19.36\00:18:20.80 Yeah. 00:18:20.83\00:18:22.16 Well, it seems like years, 00:18:22.20\00:18:23.53 maybe because I've known you for years. 00:18:23.57\00:18:26.03 Anyway I know that, that's, that's something that, 00:18:26.07\00:18:29.47 that's exciting. 00:18:29.50\00:18:31.11 Even people with hypertension that have the kidney problems, 00:18:31.14\00:18:35.71 we're finding out that those respond as well. 00:18:35.74\00:18:38.91 You know, what I'm excited about for her as well, 00:18:38.95\00:18:41.78 is her brother is here and her mother is here. 00:18:41.82\00:18:44.29 They're a wonderful family. 00:18:44.32\00:18:46.29 Mom sat them down and they had worship every day. 00:18:46.32\00:18:50.56 The kids love the Lord. They are just wonderful. 00:18:50.59\00:18:52.93 Yeah. Yeah. 00:18:52.96\00:18:54.30 And they're gonna go back and teach the church. 00:18:54.33\00:18:55.80 Yeah. 00:18:55.83\00:18:57.17 And the other people in the Hispanic community, 00:18:57.20\00:19:00.10 mostly Mexican, I understand. 00:19:00.14\00:19:03.30 And... 00:19:03.34\00:19:04.67 And they want to, they want to get our chaplain 00:19:04.71\00:19:06.54 and our other chaplain that plays a piano 00:19:06.57\00:19:10.45 to come down there. 00:19:10.48\00:19:11.81 We're just talking about that at breakfast. 00:19:11.85\00:19:13.42 We got to get down there 00:19:13.45\00:19:14.78 and help the people in their area. 00:19:14.82\00:19:16.15 Yeah, that would be wonderful. Yeah. 00:19:44.31\00:19:45.85 And thank you, friends, but don't go away. 00:19:45.88\00:19:47.98 We have a message coming up. 00:19:48.02\00:19:50.09 Hello, I'm Dr. Neil Nedley. This is NEWSTART Now. 00:20:27.12\00:20:30.79 And with me today is Dr. Eddie Ramirez. 00:20:30.83\00:20:33.50 And Dr. Ramirez, this study actually got 00:20:33.53\00:20:36.26 a lot of interest when it was presented by you 00:20:36.30\00:20:40.84 in Las Vegas at the Sexual Medicine Conference. 00:20:40.87\00:20:45.04 Since that time, it has been published 00:20:45.07\00:20:47.08 in the Journal of Sexual Medicine. 00:20:47.11\00:20:49.24 We're actually going to be talking about two studies 00:20:49.28\00:20:51.81 that were published 00:20:51.85\00:20:53.18 in the Journal of Sexual Medicine 00:20:53.21\00:20:54.88 and produced a lot of questions and a lot of interest 00:20:54.92\00:20:59.19 because it turns out... 00:20:59.22\00:21:00.62 This had not really been looked at. 00:21:00.66\00:21:02.82 We're studying sex in all sorts of different ways these days 00:21:02.86\00:21:06.80 in the scientific literature, but sex in the context 00:21:06.83\00:21:10.77 of a marriage relationship versus 00:21:10.80\00:21:13.40 not in a marriage relationship 00:21:13.44\00:21:15.40 is something that had not really been looked at. 00:21:15.44\00:21:18.14 And so tell us a little bit about 00:21:18.17\00:21:20.68 where these subjects came from 00:21:20.71\00:21:22.48 and what we were actually analyzing. 00:21:22.51\00:21:25.35 This is a nice big sample 5,621 participants 00:21:25.38\00:21:30.39 of the community version of the depression 00:21:30.42\00:21:33.15 and recovery program from all over the world. 00:21:33.19\00:21:36.86 And what we were looking at is what relationship does 00:21:36.89\00:21:41.30 sexual relationships outside of the context of marriage, 00:21:41.33\00:21:45.37 what effect does that have on depression 00:21:45.40\00:21:49.04 and emotional intelligence. 00:21:49.07\00:21:51.57 So, Dr. Ramirez, a lot of people, 00:21:51.61\00:21:53.88 they want to have sex outside of marriage 00:21:53.91\00:21:56.91 because they think it's going to increase their happiness. 00:21:56.95\00:22:01.02 They might even think 00:22:01.05\00:22:02.38 it's one of the treatments for depression. 00:22:02.42\00:22:04.09 You know, they're depressed, and so let's have casual sex, 00:22:04.12\00:22:07.56 let's have it often, and let's have it 00:22:07.59\00:22:10.43 outside of a marriage relationship 00:22:10.46\00:22:12.76 and, and thus improve their mental health. 00:22:12.79\00:22:16.53 Is that what the study showed 00:22:16.56\00:22:17.93 that it improved the mental health? 00:22:17.97\00:22:19.30 Not necessarily. 00:22:19.33\00:22:20.67 In fact, we found the opposite. Okay. 00:22:20.70\00:22:22.57 Those people involved in sexual relationships 00:22:22.60\00:22:25.07 outside of marriage, they actually had 00:22:25.11\00:22:27.74 the worst indexes among mental health 00:22:27.78\00:22:31.08 when we were measuring depression 00:22:31.11\00:22:33.11 by a standardized tool that we use 00:22:33.15\00:22:35.08 the depression and anxiety assessment test. 00:22:35.12\00:22:37.82 Okay, so it's one of those classic examples 00:22:37.85\00:22:40.12 of maybe short-term gain, but long-term problems. 00:22:40.16\00:22:44.13 And of course, that's why people turn to alcohol. 00:22:44.16\00:22:46.39 You know, they think it's gonna help them out short-term, 00:22:46.43\00:22:48.50 but it ends up causing a lot more problems long-term. 00:22:48.53\00:22:51.93 And so this group that was having sex 00:22:51.97\00:22:55.64 outside of marriage, 00:22:55.67\00:22:57.61 how did their levels of depression compare? 00:22:57.64\00:22:59.97 So they had a moderate, higher on average 00:23:00.01\00:23:06.78 but some of them had 00:23:06.82\00:23:08.15 that type of severe type of depression, 00:23:08.18\00:23:11.55 those that were involve in the sexual relationship 00:23:11.59\00:23:14.09 outside of marriage. 00:23:14.12\00:23:15.46 While those that were not, usually there are levels 00:23:15.49\00:23:17.89 were more of a low moderate level, 00:23:17.93\00:23:20.63 mild, and so forth. 00:23:20.66\00:23:23.06 Okay, so it made a significant difference 00:23:23.10\00:23:25.47 in the severity of depression. 00:23:25.50\00:23:27.34 And what else did you noticed? 00:23:27.37\00:23:28.90 Well, we found that there is hope. 00:23:28.94\00:23:31.31 Even those people that were involved 00:23:31.34\00:23:34.04 in sexual relationships outside of marriage, 00:23:34.08\00:23:36.38 as they came to the program, understood the negative effects 00:23:36.41\00:23:40.32 that this have in their mental health 00:23:40.35\00:23:42.78 and stop that behavior. 00:23:42.82\00:23:44.95 There were among those that improve the most 00:23:44.99\00:23:47.96 in the program and were able to come down 00:23:47.99\00:23:50.26 to no level of depression. 00:23:50.29\00:23:52.59 Okay. 00:23:52.63\00:23:53.96 So if during the eight-week program, 00:23:54.00\00:23:55.70 they change that practice, 00:23:55.73\00:23:57.70 they actually improved the most. 00:23:57.73\00:23:59.40 That's right. 00:23:59.43\00:24:00.77 And their levels of depression and anxiety 00:24:00.80\00:24:02.80 were much more likely to go away. 00:24:02.84\00:24:05.07 So if you make mistakes and so forth, 00:24:05.11\00:24:06.78 well, there's hope. 00:24:06.81\00:24:08.14 You know, there's hope of change of behavior 00:24:08.18\00:24:10.45 and a secondary to that, you will have an improvement 00:24:10.48\00:24:13.98 in your mental health. 00:24:14.02\00:24:15.45 Okay, so not only their depression scores 00:24:15.48\00:24:17.79 and anxiety scores improved 00:24:17.82\00:24:19.65 if they were not having sex outside of marriage. 00:24:19.69\00:24:21.72 But you also did a separate study 00:24:21.76\00:24:24.29 measuring what? 00:24:24.33\00:24:25.66 Emotional intelligence. 00:24:25.69\00:24:27.66 And those with sexual relationships 00:24:27.70\00:24:29.70 outside of the context of marriage, 00:24:29.73\00:24:31.63 at the beginning had 00:24:31.67\00:24:33.00 the worst emotional intelligence. 00:24:33.03\00:24:35.87 Yet, those that were able to stop that behavior 00:24:35.90\00:24:39.57 by the end of the program, 00:24:39.61\00:24:41.74 improved the most their emotional intelligence 00:24:41.78\00:24:44.55 coming up to 109.2 on average. 00:24:44.58\00:24:49.02 The nice thing about this is, 00:24:49.05\00:24:50.42 this program is actually available to anyone today. 00:24:50.45\00:24:55.42 They can do it in their own home. 00:24:55.46\00:24:57.23 They can do it in a community-based program 00:24:57.26\00:24:59.66 or they could actually come to Weimar Institute 00:24:59.69\00:25:01.86 and do the residential program. 00:25:01.90\00:25:03.63 So three options 00:25:03.67\00:25:05.33 for dramatically improving levels 00:25:05.37\00:25:07.64 of depression, anxiety, and emotional intelligence. 00:25:07.67\00:25:11.57 I'm Dr. Neil Nedley, this is NEWSTART Now. 00:25:11.61\00:25:14.78 And join us again next week for another exciting study. 00:25:14.81\00:25:19.81 When we look at the health status 00:25:19.85\00:25:21.35 of Americans today, 00:25:21.38\00:25:22.72 it's alarming to see that 60% are either overweight or obese. 00:25:22.75\00:25:27.62 In addition, diseases such as type 2 diabetes, 00:25:32.43\00:25:35.40 cancer, and heart disorders are the leading cause 00:25:35.43\00:25:38.00 of so many complications and deaths every year. 00:25:38.03\00:25:41.20 Could it have something to do with what we eat? 00:25:45.34\00:25:47.98 After all, everyone in four Americans 00:25:48.01\00:25:50.68 visits a fast-food restaurant daily 00:25:50.71\00:25:52.85 and with such easy access to quick fix foods. 00:25:52.88\00:25:56.38 We tend to forget the poor health value, 00:25:56.42\00:25:58.42 those foods actually offer. 00:25:58.45\00:26:01.32 Maybe it's the sedentary lifestyle 00:26:01.36\00:26:03.22 and lack of exercise that we've become so accustomed 00:26:03.26\00:26:05.86 to as a media dependent world. 00:26:05.89\00:26:08.70 Whatever the cause of these diseases, 00:26:08.73\00:26:10.57 a solution has arrived. 00:26:10.60\00:26:14.80 The NEWSTART Lifestyle Center offers enriching program 00:26:14.84\00:26:18.21 where patients can get a healing of mind, 00:26:18.24\00:26:20.58 and body, and soul. 00:26:20.61\00:26:22.01 Located in the outskirts of Sacramento, 00:26:22.04\00:26:24.58 the NEWSTART Center is situated on the beautiful campus 00:26:24.61\00:26:27.75 of Weimar Center of Health and Education 00:26:27.78\00:26:30.59 with scenic walking and hiking trails all around. 00:26:30.62\00:26:34.19 With a whole plant foods eaten whole motto, 00:26:34.22\00:26:37.63 the NEWSTART Center promotes a healthy plant-based diet 00:26:37.66\00:26:40.76 with an emphasis on natural foods. 00:26:40.80\00:26:43.16 The NEWSTART staff are made up 00:26:43.20\00:26:45.00 of California board-certified nurses, 00:26:45.03\00:26:47.80 doctors, dieticians, and therapists, 00:26:47.84\00:26:50.84 who work together to assist each patient personally. 00:26:50.87\00:26:54.14 The staff are dedicated to each patient's success 00:26:54.18\00:26:56.81 in the program and are always there 00:26:56.85\00:26:58.71 to guide, advise, and encourage. 00:26:58.75\00:27:01.62 In addition to a healthy lifestyle, 00:27:01.65\00:27:03.79 NEWSTART also promotes a healthy exercise routine. 00:27:03.82\00:27:06.86 You're both in sequence, that's good. 00:27:06.89\00:27:08.76 All right. 00:27:08.79\00:27:10.13 As part of the balanced program, 00:27:10.16\00:27:11.49 there is much opportunity to get in the fair share 00:27:11.53\00:27:14.00 of physical activity from utilizing 00:27:14.03\00:27:16.20 our fitness center to taking a stroll 00:27:16.23\00:27:18.60 around the peaceful grounds of Weimar. 00:27:18.63\00:27:21.24 It's amazing what a NEWSTART can do for you! 00:27:21.27\00:27:24.24 Well, friends, that's it for today, 00:27:24.27\00:27:25.87 but join us next week for another episode. 00:27:25.91\00:27:29.08 In the meantime, pick up the phone 00:27:29.11\00:27:30.68 and give us a call at 800-525-9192. 00:27:30.71\00:27:36.58 Mentioned the NEWSTART Now program 00:27:36.62\00:27:39.39 and receive the NEWSTART special. 00:27:39.42\00:27:41.99
