Yeah. 00:02:55.44\00:02:57.81 I knew that that was going to be an aspect 00:02:57.84\00:02:59.74 of this program 00:02:59.77\00:03:01.11 but that's not what I came here for. 00:03:01.14\00:03:03.75 I kind of was against religion, I guess. 00:03:03.78\00:03:08.28 So I didn't like it, 00:03:08.32\00:03:09.65 I didn't understand it, that's why. 00:03:09.68\00:03:11.15 And I just... 00:03:11.19\00:03:14.59 The first meeting was with Pastor Damon, 00:03:14.62\00:03:17.49 he kind of unscrambled my thoughts quite a bit. 00:03:17.53\00:03:22.16 I saw him almost every day for hours 00:03:22.20\00:03:24.07 talking to him about... 00:03:24.10\00:03:25.43 He's a wonderful man. 00:03:25.47\00:03:26.80 Yeah. No. 00:03:40.45\00:03:43.69 I even have some trouble at home right now, 00:03:43.72\00:03:46.52 some pretty big trouble and I'm handling it pretty well 00:03:46.55\00:03:49.36 better than I would have, so. 00:03:49.39\00:03:52.56 Yeah, you talked to me about it. 00:03:52.59\00:03:53.93 We won't mention that on the air. 00:03:53.96\00:03:56.06 Okay? Yeah. 00:03:56.10\00:03:57.60 All right, so what did you think 00:03:57.63\00:03:58.97 of the food here? 00:03:59.00\00:04:01.50 My first was... 00:04:01.54\00:04:03.30 I mean it was always good from the start 00:04:03.34\00:04:05.21 but that was hard to get used to a little bit. 00:04:05.24\00:04:07.61 Some of it I loved 00:04:07.64\00:04:08.98 and some of it was kind of okay. 00:04:09.01\00:04:10.58 Yeah. 00:04:10.61\00:04:11.95 And towards the end, I was just like, 00:04:11.98\00:04:16.48 I like it. 00:04:16.52\00:04:18.22 I gotten quite used to it. Good. 00:04:18.25\00:04:21.52 And so you don't think you'll have a problem 00:04:21.56\00:04:24.76 when you get back home? 00:04:24.79\00:04:26.29 No. I do have a busy life at home. 00:04:26.33\00:04:29.23 So it'll be a change for me 00:04:29.26\00:04:31.83 to kind of incorporate this program 00:04:31.87\00:04:35.40 with my life at home that I'm sure I can do it. 00:04:35.44\00:04:38.64 You'll do it. Yeah. 00:04:38.67\00:04:40.01 Yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:04:40.04\00:04:42.51 Now you're walking a lot these days? 00:04:42.54\00:04:45.38 Not as much as the doctors want me to but... 00:04:45.41\00:04:48.28 Really, how kind. 00:04:48.32\00:04:51.69 I don't know. 00:04:51.72\00:04:53.36 I guess, well, actually, a lot of my free time 00:04:53.39\00:04:57.19 I'm doing Bible study and stuff. 00:04:57.23\00:04:59.79 So I never really think to go out, 00:04:59.83\00:05:02.96 but I walk now about five or six miles a day. 00:05:03.00\00:05:08.44 And they want you to do more on that? 00:05:08.47\00:05:09.97 Mm-hmm, for depression, yeah. 00:05:10.01\00:05:11.84 Oh, okay, all right. 00:05:11.87\00:05:13.48 How many miles they want you to walk? 00:05:13.51\00:05:14.84 I don't know. 00:05:14.88\00:05:16.21 They didn't really give me a maximum. 00:05:16.24\00:05:17.61 They just... 00:05:17.65\00:05:18.98 Every time they asked me how much I'm walking 00:05:19.01\00:05:20.52 and I say about five miles, they say 00:05:20.55\00:05:21.88 they want me to do more than that. 00:05:21.92\00:05:24.15 Of course, they do. 00:05:24.19\00:05:25.69 And are you a fast walker? 00:05:25.72\00:05:27.16 How long does it take you to walk a mile? 00:05:27.19\00:05:31.16 Like 15 minutes or less. 00:05:31.19\00:05:34.63 Whoa, then you're a fast walker, yeah. 00:05:34.66\00:05:37.40 You're like my wife. 00:05:37.43\00:05:39.33 I can't walk with her. She's got... 00:05:39.37\00:05:43.14 Her legs aren't any longer, but she just, 00:05:43.17\00:05:45.21 or maybe they are. 00:05:45.24\00:05:46.88 My steps are shorter. 00:05:46.91\00:05:48.41 Oh, yeah, I've long legs. 00:05:48.44\00:05:49.94 You got long legs, I noticed. 00:05:49.98\00:05:52.01 And, you know, 00:05:52.05\00:05:53.38 I got to take a lot more steps 00:05:53.42\00:05:54.92 to keep up with her. 00:05:54.95\00:05:56.69 So I am burning a lot more energy. 00:05:56.72\00:05:58.42 I guess that's a good thing. 00:05:58.45\00:05:59.79 Yeah. Yeah. 00:05:59.82\00:06:01.62 Well, you've got some things to teach people 00:06:01.66\00:06:04.83 when you get back home? 00:06:04.86\00:06:06.19 Yeah. 00:06:06.23\00:06:07.56 Yeah, and you could be inspiring 00:06:07.60\00:06:09.36 a lot of folks that are going to look at you and go, 00:06:09.40\00:06:13.40 "What happened? 00:06:13.44\00:06:14.77 What did you do?" 00:06:14.80\00:06:16.14 Yeah. What would you say to them? 00:06:16.17\00:06:18.44 I would tell them about my diet 00:06:18.47\00:06:22.34 and how exercise is important, 00:06:22.38\00:06:24.58 and I'm most excited to talk about the spiritual part. 00:06:24.61\00:06:28.15 Yeah. Yeah. 00:06:28.18\00:06:29.78 I hope you tell them about the NEWSTART program. 00:06:29.82\00:06:32.09 Yeah. Little plug. 00:06:32.12\00:06:33.52 I've already got a list of people 00:06:33.56\00:06:35.02 I want to recommend coming here, and yeah. 00:06:35.06\00:06:37.39 Yeah. 00:06:37.43\00:06:38.76 All right. So your doctor is doctor...? 00:06:38.79\00:06:44.00 Dr. Gallant. Yeah. Dr. Gallant. 00:06:44.03\00:06:46.37 Okay. We're going to be interviewing him next. 00:06:46.40\00:06:49.97 And we'll be talking about you, how you've... 00:06:50.01\00:06:52.47 Oh, no. Okay. 00:06:52.51\00:06:53.88 No, it's all good, 00:06:53.91\00:06:55.24 nothing more than what we're talking about now. 00:06:55.28\00:07:01.78 What was your favorite part of the program? 00:07:01.82\00:07:03.69 I noticed you said that worship and prayer, 00:07:03.72\00:07:08.12 what else was there really 00:07:08.16\00:07:12.13 that you think was beneficial? 00:07:12.16\00:07:17.90 All the information 00:07:17.93\00:07:19.27 that they give you about nutrition, 00:07:19.30\00:07:22.00 well, actually just all the information in general, 00:07:22.04\00:07:24.14 but the nutrition part was very helpful to me 00:07:24.17\00:07:28.34 because I didn't really know that there's so many bad 00:07:28.38\00:07:34.12 or, you know, bad things that I was eating. 00:07:34.15\00:07:37.09 At home, I was a huge meat eater 00:07:37.12\00:07:38.92 and I drink, like a gallon of milk in three days. 00:07:38.95\00:07:42.22 I was... 00:07:42.26\00:07:44.56 So learning everything about all of that 00:07:44.59\00:07:48.53 and how all of those foods affect you and everything 00:07:48.56\00:07:52.97 kind of opened my eyes a bit. 00:07:53.00\00:07:54.70 And I feel a lot better 00:07:54.74\00:07:56.07 being on that diet physically. 00:07:56.10\00:07:58.24 Yes. So what have you learned about milk? 00:07:58.27\00:08:03.14 I don't know if you want me to tell you. 00:08:03.18\00:08:06.61 Why not? Lots of bad things. 00:08:06.65\00:08:07.98 I mean, I don't drink it. 00:08:08.02\00:08:11.29 The grossest thing that I've learned 00:08:11.32\00:08:13.32 was that it's... 00:08:13.36\00:08:15.69 Well, so milk, if you think about it 00:08:15.72\00:08:19.36 how humans, when women breastfeed 00:08:19.39\00:08:22.36 the milk is full of antibodies for the baby, 00:08:22.40\00:08:26.17 for a human baby. 00:08:26.20\00:08:27.54 Yes. 00:08:27.57\00:08:28.90 And so it's the same for any animal, 00:08:28.94\00:08:31.41 it's giving the animal what they need, you know. 00:08:31.44\00:08:35.41 And what's inside, to give those antibodies, 00:08:35.44\00:08:39.28 it's not just, I can't remember exactly, 00:08:39.31\00:08:41.48 it's not just milk but it's basically like puss, 00:08:41.52\00:08:45.92 I guess. 00:08:45.95\00:08:48.46 That is pretty gross. Thanks for sharing. 00:08:48.49\00:08:50.26 Yeah. 00:08:50.29\00:08:52.16 Well, doesn't it leach calcium from your bones? 00:08:52.19\00:08:55.20 Yeah, they say that milk is good for your bones 00:08:55.23\00:09:01.74 but that's just a marketing thing. 00:09:01.77\00:09:04.01 It's not true. Yeah. Yeah. 00:09:04.04\00:09:06.01 A lot of people are going to thank you 00:09:06.04\00:09:07.51 'cause I know there's several people watching this, 00:09:07.54\00:09:11.01 may be millions. 00:09:11.05\00:09:12.38 Yeah. 00:09:12.41\00:09:13.75 That doesn't scare you, does it? 00:09:13.78\00:09:15.12 It does, it does. 00:09:15.15\00:09:16.82 It's okay. 00:09:16.85\00:09:19.12 Yeah, so and then 00:09:19.15\00:09:20.72 meat you've learned is not the healthiest choice. 00:09:20.76\00:09:24.79 I mean, come on, there's mad cow disease, 00:09:24.83\00:09:27.66 there's bird flu. 00:09:27.70\00:09:29.60 And when I was a boy, 00:09:29.63\00:09:31.13 in the fish and poultry business, 00:09:31.17\00:09:32.93 I remember cutting out sores from fish 00:09:32.97\00:09:36.71 in the '40s and '50s 00:09:36.74\00:09:38.71 that were gross then, it's no better today. 00:09:38.74\00:09:41.88 Yeah, they've said that when, 00:09:41.91\00:09:45.01 you know, they're slaughtering 00:09:45.05\00:09:46.38 the animals, they're killing a chicken 00:09:46.41\00:09:48.98 and then they're taking all the feathers off, whatever, 00:09:49.02\00:09:51.42 if they see something suspicious, 00:09:51.45\00:09:54.22 like a lump, they'll just kind of chop it off 00:09:54.26\00:09:57.53 and then send the rest out, 00:09:57.56\00:09:59.93 like the animals could have cancer, 00:09:59.96\00:10:01.93 just be filled with toxins and everything. 00:10:01.96\00:10:04.50 And they just take away 00:10:04.53\00:10:05.87 a little suspicious part and then sell the rest. 00:10:05.90\00:10:09.07 Cut up the rest. 00:10:09.10\00:10:10.44 Yeah. That's why you can't ever find... 00:10:10.47\00:10:12.47 You don't really find like a whole chicken in the store, 00:10:12.51\00:10:14.68 it's always in little pieces everywhere because... 00:10:14.71\00:10:17.35 Yeah. Yeah. He does a great job. 00:16:07.90\00:16:09.66 You know, he does a morning devotional 00:16:09.70\00:16:12.03 that we call "Fresh Start", in the morning, about 7 am, 00:16:12.07\00:16:16.30 and it's a great way to start the day. 00:16:16.34\00:16:19.64 And he has a real gift of helping people 00:16:19.67\00:16:24.11 with their spiritual issues. 00:16:24.15\00:16:26.21 And we have had so many guests 00:16:26.25\00:16:28.35 who have come through the program, 00:16:28.38\00:16:30.09 who have just not only received physical healing 00:16:30.12\00:16:34.12 but also spiritual healing 00:16:34.16\00:16:35.92 and that combination is so powerful, 00:16:35.96\00:16:38.09 it gives you lasting change, it gives you lasting health. 00:16:38.13\00:16:43.53 Nothing greater. Nothing greater, absolutely. 00:16:43.57\00:16:46.10 You know, Dr. Lukens had been telling me, 00:16:46.13\00:16:48.27 "You got to go listen to Damon." 00:16:48.30\00:16:51.07 I go, "Yeah, well, you know, 00:16:51.11\00:16:52.57 he's just another pastor, whatever." 00:16:52.61\00:16:54.81 That was my attitude. Right. 00:16:54.84\00:16:56.85 Well, a couple of weeks ago, 00:16:56.88\00:16:59.28 I went to a sermon he did on campus here. 00:16:59.31\00:17:02.68 And I was just blown away. Yeah. 00:17:02.72\00:17:04.99 I was so, so excited. 00:17:05.02\00:17:10.76 He was speaking of the Holy Spirit 00:17:10.79\00:17:12.63 and the time we have left, 00:17:12.66\00:17:15.26 that the world is fastly coming to an end. 00:17:15.30\00:17:19.20 Yes, it is. 00:17:19.23\00:17:20.57 He was talking about Ellen White's vision 00:17:20.60\00:17:23.20 she had of the train, you've heard that, right? 00:17:23.24\00:17:25.47 Yes, yes. 00:17:25.51\00:17:26.94 And may be some of you out there 00:17:26.98\00:17:28.31 have heard it too. 00:17:28.34\00:17:29.68 But when he described this, 00:17:29.71\00:17:31.05 'cause I read it many years ago when I was baptized 00:17:31.08\00:17:33.85 but he says, this train has loaded with, 00:17:33.88\00:17:36.25 and everybody on the train you know, 00:17:36.28\00:17:39.15 and where are they going? 00:17:39.19\00:17:41.29 They have been wooed by this lovely conductor 00:17:41.32\00:17:45.33 who is none other than Satan himself. 00:17:45.36\00:17:49.96 And the sad news is he's taking them where? 00:17:50.00\00:17:54.04 Place we don't want to go. 00:17:54.07\00:17:55.40 A place we don't want to go. That's right. 00:17:55.44\00:17:57.31 Anyway, I am kind of off the subject here 00:17:57.34\00:17:59.77 but not really because it's such an impact 00:17:59.81\00:18:04.65 that the spiritual aspects of this place, 00:18:04.68\00:18:08.25 of this program do so much for so many. 00:18:08.28\00:18:12.32 It's true. 00:18:12.35\00:18:13.69 And again, in Lindsay's case, just... 00:18:13.72\00:18:16.99 And Lindsay didn't have a lot of health issues, 00:18:17.03\00:18:20.26 but by taking to heart the things that we recommended, 00:18:20.30\00:18:26.40 she had improvement in her health. 00:18:26.43\00:18:28.70 Her cholesterol wasn't high 00:18:28.74\00:18:31.44 but it dropped by more than 40 points. 00:18:31.47\00:18:35.04 Isn't that interesting? 00:18:35.08\00:18:36.41 She was healthy 00:18:36.44\00:18:38.75 but she was able to exercise more. 00:18:38.78\00:18:41.28 She'd had a previous injury from exercise 00:18:41.32\00:18:44.59 and got some improvement in that as well. 00:18:44.62\00:18:47.92 So I praise God that she was willing 00:18:47.96\00:18:50.09 to take to heart being here and this opportunity, 00:18:50.13\00:18:54.13 and I praise God for how He blessed 00:18:54.16\00:18:55.86 while she was here. 00:18:55.90\00:18:57.47 You know, when I praise God for you, 00:18:57.50\00:19:00.10 I praise God for you, for Dr. Lukens, Dr. Kuninobu, 00:19:00.14\00:19:04.61 Dr. Nedley, Dr. Bevan, 00:19:04.64\00:19:06.71 we got more doctors here than the hospital does. 00:19:06.74\00:19:09.11 Yeah. 00:19:09.14\00:19:10.48 But you guys have this different perspective, 00:19:10.51\00:19:13.68 and I used the term, guys, you know what I mean. 00:19:13.72\00:19:18.09 That you are not just MDs, you're like pastors, 00:19:18.12\00:19:23.83 like preachers, if you will, 00:19:23.86\00:19:26.19 and you take care of the individual that comes here 00:19:26.23\00:19:31.03 'cause each one of you 00:19:31.07\00:19:32.40 are assigned several guests, right? 00:19:32.43\00:19:34.50 That's right. 00:21:16.24\00:21:18.91 After all, every one in four Americans 00:21:18.94\00:21:21.48 visit a fast food restaurant daily, 00:21:21.51\00:21:23.58 and with such easy access to quick-fix foods, 00:21:23.61\00:21:27.25 we tend to forget the poor health value 00:21:27.28\00:21:29.25 those foods actually offer. 00:21:29.28\00:21:32.19 May be it's the sedentary lifestyle 00:21:32.22\00:21:34.06 and lack of exercise 00:21:34.09\00:21:35.42 that we've become so accustomed to 00:21:35.46\00:21:36.96 as a media-dependent world. 00:21:36.99\00:21:39.53 Whatever the cause of these diseases, 00:21:39.56\00:21:41.43 a solution has arrived. 00:21:41.46\00:21:45.73 The NEWSTART lifestyle center offers enriching program 00:21:45.77\00:21:49.10 where patients can get a healing 00:21:49.14\00:21:50.64 of mind, body, and soul. 00:21:50.67\00:21:53.01 Located in the outskirts of Sacramento, 00:21:53.04\00:21:55.44 the NEWSTART center is situated on the beautiful campus 00:21:55.48\00:21:58.61 of Weimar Center of Health and Education 00:21:58.65\00:22:01.45 with scenic walking and hiking trails all around. 00:22:01.48\00:22:05.32 With the whole plant foods eaten whole motto, 00:22:05.35\00:22:08.52 the NEWSTART center promotes a healthy plant-based diet 00:22:08.56\00:22:11.59 with emphasis on natural foods. 00:22:11.63\00:22:14.20 The NEWSTART staff 00:22:14.23\00:22:15.56 are made up of California board certified nurses, 00:22:15.60\00:22:18.67 doctors, dieticians, and therapists 00:22:18.70\00:22:21.64 who work together to assist each patient personally. 00:22:21.67\00:22:25.07 The staff are dedicated 00:22:25.11\00:22:26.44 to each patient's success in the program 00:22:26.47\00:22:28.54 and are always there to guide, advice, and encourage. 00:22:28.58\00:22:32.55 In addition to a healthy lifestyle, 00:22:32.58\00:22:34.58 NEWSTART also promotes a healthy exercise routine. 00:22:34.62\00:22:37.75 You're both in sequence, that's good. 00:22:37.79\00:22:39.59 All right. 00:22:39.62\00:22:40.96 As part of the bounce program, 00:22:40.99\00:22:42.32 there is much opportunity 00:22:42.36\00:22:43.69 to get in the fair share of physical activity 00:22:43.73\00:22:46.09 from utilizing our fitness center 00:22:46.13\00:22:49.46 to taking a stroll around the peaceful grounds of Weimar. 00:22:49.50\00:22:52.03 It's amazing what a new start can do for you. 00:22:52.07\00:22:56.91 Welcome to NEWSTART Now. 00:22:56.94\00:22:58.64 I am Dr. Neil Nedley, President of Weimar Institute, 00:22:58.67\00:23:01.44 and with me today is Dr. Eddie Ramirez, 00:23:01.48\00:23:03.61 one of our researchers and physicians and teachers 00:23:03.65\00:23:06.45 of research here at Weimar College. 00:23:06.48\00:23:09.82 And in fact, the study 00:23:09.85\00:23:11.35 we're going to be talking to you about today... 00:23:11.39\00:23:14.42 We had help from one of our college students, 00:23:14.46\00:23:17.29 Katie and Tuna, 00:23:17.33\00:23:19.13 who actually has been very instrumental 00:23:19.16\00:23:22.00 and actually helping out with the depression 00:23:22.03\00:23:24.57 and anxiety recovery program on campus. 00:23:24.60\00:23:28.47 But in this particular study, 00:23:28.50\00:23:29.90 we were looking at a factor called emotional intelligence 00:23:29.94\00:23:35.44 and, you know, Dr. Ramirez, 00:23:35.48\00:23:37.05 I was just seeing in Forbes magazine, 00:23:37.08\00:23:39.11 they recommend that you hire for emotional intelligence 00:23:39.15\00:23:42.18 even more so than general intelligence, 00:23:42.22\00:23:44.95 that this has much more to do with your future success 00:23:44.99\00:23:47.92 and happiness and your ability to stay employed 00:23:47.96\00:23:50.93 and to reach higher levels of employment. 00:23:50.96\00:23:54.50 And so Dr. Ramirez, 00:23:54.53\00:23:56.50 this study is coming out in Biological Psychiatry. 00:23:56.53\00:24:00.84 And the interesting thing is, 00:24:00.87\00:24:03.81 what we put into our body, what we do with our body 00:24:03.84\00:24:06.91 actually has to do with our brain chemistry 00:24:06.94\00:24:09.21 and it can change the biology in the brain itself. 00:24:09.24\00:24:13.28 And that's what this study showed 00:24:13.31\00:24:14.75 and why it was published in Biological Psychiatry. 00:24:14.78\00:24:17.69 So tell us a little bit about the study group itself 00:24:17.72\00:24:23.53 who has studied in this emotional intelligence data. 00:24:23.56\00:24:26.93 We have a very nice sample group 00:24:26.96\00:24:29.06 of 5,611 participants 00:24:29.10\00:24:33.30 that did the community-based depression recovery program 00:24:33.34\00:24:38.77 in literally around the world. 00:24:38.81\00:24:40.91 Okay, so these subjects 00:24:40.94\00:24:43.58 were not at Weimar Institute, per say, 00:24:43.61\00:24:46.51 but they were coming to learn Weimar type of principles 00:24:46.55\00:24:50.82 and they were particularly coming 00:24:50.85\00:24:53.15 because they had depression, is that right? 00:24:53.19\00:24:55.99 Yes, three-quarters of them had depression, 00:24:56.02\00:24:58.29 one-quarter of them didn't have, 00:24:58.33\00:25:00.26 but wanted to improve their mental health. 00:25:00.30\00:25:02.43 Okay, so most of them came with significant depression, 00:25:02.46\00:25:06.33 and this is a mental health education program 00:25:06.37\00:25:09.30 they are coming to. 00:25:09.34\00:25:12.31 How many educational sessions are there? 00:25:12.34\00:25:14.51 That's right. It is an eight week program. 00:25:14.54\00:25:17.61 So they had eight sessions, and one program in particular, 00:25:17.65\00:25:22.88 we focus in helping them understand this concept 00:25:22.92\00:25:26.35 and how to improve it. 00:25:26.39\00:25:28.16 But not only that was important, 00:25:28.19\00:25:31.63 but we had to put the foundations 00:25:31.66\00:25:33.66 before we talk about EQ and these type of concepts, 00:25:33.70\00:25:37.03 we had to change their diet, 00:25:37.07\00:25:38.40 we had to put them through the exercise, 00:25:38.43\00:25:40.97 and so forth to prepare the environment for them 00:25:41.00\00:25:43.24 to understand these concepts. 00:25:43.27\00:25:45.24 Well, that's quite interesting, 00:25:45.27\00:25:47.21 and so we do first some changes 00:25:47.24\00:25:50.15 in what were they putting into their body, 00:25:50.18\00:25:52.05 what they're doing with their body 00:25:52.08\00:25:53.42 that helps change the biology. 00:25:53.45\00:25:55.58 And then we get into teaching them 00:25:55.62\00:25:57.55 about how they're thinking and how we think 00:25:57.59\00:26:01.19 can actually change our brain chemistry as well. 00:26:01.22\00:26:04.16 And so emotional intelligence, can you tell us what it is? 00:26:04.19\00:26:07.83 Yes. It's that ability for you to interact with others 00:26:07.86\00:26:12.53 and to motivate yourself. 00:26:12.57\00:26:14.17 There's five things 00:26:14.20\00:26:15.54 that emotional intelligence measures 00:26:15.57\00:26:16.94 and that is knowing your emotions, 00:26:16.97\00:26:18.87 managing your emotions, 00:26:18.91\00:26:20.58 recognizing emotions in others, 00:26:20.61\00:26:22.44 managing relationships and others, 00:26:22.48\00:26:24.38 and motivating yourself to reach those goals. 00:26:24.41\00:26:27.78 Okay, so you can see 00:26:27.82\00:26:29.15 why it's very important to happiness 00:26:29.18\00:26:30.65 because relationship is connected 00:26:30.69\00:26:33.66 to our happiness and healthy relationships are. 00:26:33.69\00:26:36.79 And so what did we find out? 00:26:36.83\00:26:38.16 What was the average emotional intelligence 00:26:38.19\00:26:40.23 for those that came into the program? 00:26:40.26\00:26:41.96 So on average, they had 100, 00:26:42.00\00:26:44.80 which is the normal average around the world. 00:26:44.83\00:26:48.30 Okay, so even though they were depressed, 00:26:48.34\00:26:50.41 their EQ was on average right at the average point, 00:26:50.44\00:26:54.38 like 100. 00:26:54.41\00:26:55.88 And what was able to happen during the course of that, 00:26:55.91\00:26:59.18 just one program, once a week, for eight weeks. 00:26:59.21\00:27:01.88 That's right, at the end, 00:27:01.92\00:27:03.25 they had on average an EQ of 108.9. 00:27:03.28\00:27:09.39 Okay. So they went up nine points. 00:27:09.42\00:27:12.13 That's like an entire standard deviation, 00:27:12.16\00:27:15.40 that's very significant. 00:27:15.43\00:27:16.77 And that's the average. 00:27:16.80\00:27:18.13 There are some that actually went beyond 120 barrier, 00:27:18.17\00:27:24.11 so that puts them in the very top levels 00:27:24.14\00:27:27.21 of emotional intelligence. 00:27:27.24\00:27:28.74 Wow, and that means 00:27:28.78\00:27:30.11 they not only left the program depression-free 00:27:30.15\00:27:32.98 and anxiety-free, as many do that leave that program, 00:27:33.01\00:27:37.12 but they're now set up for levels of success 00:27:37.15\00:27:39.72 that are far better than people 00:27:39.75\00:27:41.19 who've never had depression and anxiety. 00:27:41.22\00:27:43.09 Yeah, those people that usually in a group setting, 00:27:43.12\00:27:45.73 they are causing sparks all over them, 00:27:45.76\00:27:48.83 those people have actually 00:27:48.86\00:27:50.20 a very low emotional intelligence. 00:27:50.23\00:27:51.97 You can have low emotional intelligence 00:27:52.00\00:27:54.10 and high IQ, 00:27:54.14\00:27:55.64 and this one helps you to get that balance, 00:27:55.67\00:27:58.27 you know, improve that IQ and EQ 00:27:58.31\00:28:00.84 as you participate in the program. 00:28:00.88\00:28:03.08 From NEWSTART Now, I am Dr. Neil Nedley. 00:28:03.11\00:28:05.85 Join us again next week for another exciting study. 00:28:05.88\00:28:08.95
