He's already expressed that. 00:12:14.93\00:12:17.60 And maybe he waited 00:12:17.63\00:12:19.50 a little bit too long to get back here. 00:12:19.53\00:12:21.47 Can you tell us a little bit about that? 00:12:21.50\00:12:22.84 You know, he was here in one January of one year 00:12:22.87\00:12:26.47 and came back about a year later. 00:12:26.51\00:12:28.54 But when he was here, things went so well. 00:12:28.58\00:12:30.68 He was doing so well, he went home 00:12:30.71\00:12:32.81 and actually did well for a little while. 00:12:32.85\00:12:35.42 And then he started to backtrack a little bit, 00:12:35.45\00:12:39.25 started to slip a little bit, 00:12:39.29\00:12:41.36 and his health started to deteriorate. 00:12:41.39\00:12:45.53 And it's unfortunate that he waited to come back 00:12:45.56\00:12:48.86 until he had actually been put on dialysis, you know, 00:12:48.90\00:12:52.80 because when he was here, 00:12:52.83\00:12:54.24 his kidney function was improving, 00:12:54.27\00:12:56.71 his overall health, his diabetes was improving, 00:12:56.74\00:12:59.84 and he was getting better. Yes. 00:12:59.87\00:13:02.21 And it's so unfortunate that he waited until this point 00:13:02.24\00:13:04.85 to come back. 00:13:04.88\00:13:06.21 Now I know, Dr. Lukens, 00:13:06.25\00:13:07.68 you had been following up with Oscar over the last year. 00:13:07.72\00:13:11.69 In fact, you and I have talked to him 00:13:11.72\00:13:13.66 on a number of occasions. 00:13:13.69\00:13:15.72 And is it true that people who are on dialysis 00:13:15.76\00:13:20.13 can oftentimes, maybe not always, 00:13:20.16\00:13:23.00 but oftentimes get off of dialysis 00:13:23.03\00:13:26.37 and their kidneys will improve 00:13:26.40\00:13:28.70 if they make a lifestyle change? 00:13:28.74\00:13:30.07 In the medical profession, that is an absolute falsehood 00:13:30.11\00:13:34.38 and doesn't happen. 00:13:34.41\00:13:35.74 Yes. Yeah. 00:13:35.78\00:13:37.45 And in our profession? 00:13:37.48\00:13:38.95 Well, we've seen... 00:13:38.98\00:13:40.82 This is something that 00:13:40.85\00:13:42.18 I was down at Loma Linda University 00:13:42.22\00:13:43.55 with Dr. Souter Blum, and he was my attending back 00:13:43.59\00:13:48.09 when I was in medical school, 00:13:48.12\00:13:50.63 and Dr. Gallant remembers him as well. 00:13:50.66\00:13:51.99 Yes. 00:13:52.03\00:13:53.36 Very fine Christian, wonderful man, 00:13:53.40\00:13:56.00 and I said, "You know, 00:13:56.03\00:13:57.37 I hear the latest thing is that there's a heart-kidney axis 00:13:57.40\00:14:02.34 and there's a kidney-heart axis." 00:14:02.37\00:14:05.44 And he said, "There's five of them. 00:14:05.47\00:14:07.54 There's two things with the kidneys, 00:14:07.58\00:14:10.78 but two things with the heart, and then some noxious things 00:14:10.81\00:14:14.45 that comes along and poisons your kidney, 00:14:14.48\00:14:17.45 you could say it that way." 00:14:17.49\00:14:19.35 And the thing is is that Oscar, Rabbi Neuman, his was cardiac 00:14:19.39\00:14:26.26 and when he went back to Brooklyn 00:14:26.29\00:14:30.07 to see his doctors, they were shocked 00:14:30.10\00:14:34.04 because there's a test that you can do 00:14:34.07\00:14:36.60 to show whether the person has congestive heart failure 00:14:36.64\00:14:40.78 and if it's over 500, you have it, 00:14:40.81\00:14:43.04 and his was 87,000. 00:14:43.08\00:14:45.15 Whoa. 00:14:45.18\00:14:46.51 And they said, you know, that... 00:14:46.55\00:14:47.88 So I asked him, "Well, what do they think?" 00:14:47.92\00:14:49.25 And they said, "Well, we don't understand." 00:14:49.28\00:14:51.19 They don't understand what's happening, 00:14:51.22\00:14:53.25 but you're getting better and this can't happen you see, 00:14:53.29\00:14:56.39 'cause he wouldn't take the medicines, 00:14:56.42\00:14:57.76 he wouldn't even take Lasix. 00:14:57.79\00:14:59.23 I would have had him on some Lasix. 00:14:59.26\00:15:01.06 But the next time they checked it, 00:15:01.10\00:15:03.26 it was less than a third of that. 00:15:03.30\00:15:05.57 But then the trouble is... 00:15:05.60\00:15:06.97 And I want to talk directly 00:15:07.00\00:15:10.14 to the people that are watching. 00:15:10.17\00:15:12.04 This program will make you feel so good in three months 00:15:12.07\00:15:17.78 that you'll think, "I'm over it 00:15:17.81\00:15:19.51 and I can do all the things 00:15:19.55\00:15:20.88 that I thought I enjoyed before," you see. 00:15:20.92\00:15:24.62 And so before I went to Africa on one of our trips over there, 00:15:24.65\00:15:29.56 I wrote him a letter and I said, 00:15:29.59\00:15:31.46 "This is six, seven months now. 00:15:31.49\00:15:33.96 You've got to be careful. 00:15:34.00\00:15:35.56 You can't go off the program because you're doing well, 00:15:35.60\00:15:38.70 and you feel well, 00:15:38.73\00:15:40.07 and you've got to continue on with it." 00:15:40.10\00:15:41.80 Well, he said that he did. 00:15:41.84\00:15:43.67 Now when he came back, his heart had failed again, 00:15:43.71\00:15:47.38 his legs were swollen, and his weight went from, 00:15:47.41\00:15:50.95 well, they do it in kilos, about 92 kilos, 00:15:50.98\00:15:55.75 which is, you know, it's over, what? 00:15:55.78\00:15:58.95 Hundred and ninety five. Two hundred, yeah. Yeah. 00:15:58.99\00:16:00.82 And then he got down to... 00:16:00.86\00:16:02.46 I'm not sure exactly the numbers 00:16:02.49\00:16:03.99 but, he lost about five kilos 00:16:04.03\00:16:06.90 when he was here again this time, you see. 00:16:06.93\00:16:10.17 And they didn't come back on. 00:16:10.20\00:16:11.60 So they kept... 00:16:11.63\00:16:13.44 Every time he goes into dialysis, 00:16:13.47\00:16:15.50 they help his heart 00:16:15.54\00:16:16.91 because they take off 3-5 kilos, 00:16:16.94\00:16:18.81 maybe 15 pounds of water and they can do that. 00:16:18.84\00:16:22.24 But then each time he'd go back to dialysis, 00:16:22.28\00:16:25.01 his heart was stronger again and there was less... 00:16:25.05\00:16:28.42 So he lost about 5 kilos, which is about 12 pounds 00:16:28.45\00:16:32.25 while he was here. 00:16:32.29\00:16:33.62 True weight loss, 00:16:33.66\00:16:35.32 not because they had dialyzed it off 00:16:35.36\00:16:39.89 but because when he went in, it was that much lower. 00:16:39.93\00:16:43.20 So we're trying to follow him now 00:16:43.23\00:16:45.73 and a bunch of different things, 00:16:45.77\00:16:47.87 but the thing is that people... 00:16:47.90\00:16:50.41 And we talk about this all the time, 00:16:50.44\00:16:53.14 as soon as I start talking dialysis, 00:16:53.17\00:16:55.81 get here, get on the program, 00:16:55.84\00:16:58.71 and realize this is the part 00:16:58.75\00:17:00.35 that I want to emphasize day-by-day 00:17:00.38\00:17:04.12 those of you Christians, 00:17:04.15\00:17:05.79 I want to emphasize it you have to have the help 00:17:05.82\00:17:08.86 of the great physician 00:17:08.89\00:17:10.49 in order to do this day after day after day. 00:17:10.53\00:17:14.23 And the wonderful thing about that is He's helping you 00:17:14.26\00:17:18.40 so that you can spend an eternity with Him. 00:17:18.43\00:17:20.80 Amen. 00:17:20.84\00:17:22.17 Okay, I want to get back to you, Roger, 00:17:22.20\00:17:23.54 and ask you about people who come to our program, 00:17:23.57\00:17:28.48 they're doing well, and they go, 00:17:28.51\00:17:29.94 "Okay now I can start doing this, 00:17:29.98\00:17:31.75 not what I used to do," 00:17:31.78\00:17:33.62 and they start getting sick again. 00:17:33.65\00:17:35.95 What's the solution, the logical one? 00:17:35.98\00:17:38.75 The logical one is stick with the program. 00:17:38.79\00:17:41.06 Amen. 00:17:41.09\00:17:42.42 You know, just last night, I gave a lecture on cancer. 00:17:42.46\00:17:45.83 And we have some patients in our program 00:17:45.86\00:17:47.43 who are challenged by cancer right now. 00:17:47.46\00:17:50.60 And both Dr. Lukens and myself tell them, "You can never ever, 00:17:50.63\00:17:55.57 ever go back to eating any animal products 00:17:55.60\00:17:59.07 because cancer uses animal protein in your diet 00:17:59.11\00:18:03.51 to evade, to hide from your immune system." 00:18:03.55\00:18:07.22 Isn't that something? 00:18:07.25\00:18:08.98 And so, you know, 00:18:09.02\00:18:10.72 once you've made that lifestyle change 00:18:10.75\00:18:12.75 and your body has started to get healthier, 00:18:12.79\00:18:15.19 the more that you can continue that, 00:18:15.22\00:18:17.43 the better you're going to get. 00:18:17.46\00:18:19.26 But when you backslide, those paths, 00:18:19.29\00:18:23.23 you get into this trough and it just goes very quickly. 00:18:23.26\00:18:26.63 So there's no going back. 00:18:26.67\00:18:28.00 There's no going back, you've got to stay pure. 00:18:28.04\00:18:31.31 The other thing on the animal products, 00:18:31.34\00:18:34.31 you've got different prostaglandins 00:18:34.34\00:18:37.48 and there are 20 carbon fatty acids, 00:18:37.51\00:18:39.75 we know that meat, milk, and eggs 00:18:39.78\00:18:41.35 is a big problem and fishes too. 00:18:41.38\00:18:44.49 And then so your heart isn't as strong, 00:18:44.52\00:18:47.86 but falsehood out there, 00:18:47.89\00:18:51.93 if I could be so bold to say that, 00:18:51.96\00:18:53.86 is that you're getting a whole lot of protein 00:18:53.90\00:18:56.43 that your body can't use 00:18:56.46\00:18:58.53 and these are the very amino acids 00:18:58.57\00:19:00.90 that help your cancer grow so fast. 00:19:00.94\00:19:03.44 So you're saying that people are eating too much protein? 00:19:03.47\00:19:07.31 Well, no, too much animal protein. 00:19:07.34\00:19:09.64 Well, animal protein. 00:19:09.68\00:19:11.01 Because they need all those amino acids, 00:19:11.05\00:19:13.78 they're high in the ones that the plants don't have. 00:19:13.82\00:19:17.25 The plants have a small amount of those amino acids, 00:19:17.29\00:19:21.32 and the cancer loves the animal amino acids that are high. 00:19:21.36\00:19:25.89 And so they can just take off and grow. 00:19:25.93\00:19:28.30 The cancer also uses those animal proteins, 00:19:28.33\00:19:31.30 those animal amino acids to put a coating over its cells. 00:19:31.33\00:19:35.30 Yes. 00:19:35.34\00:19:36.67 And what happens is when we eat meat protein, 00:19:36.71\00:19:39.61 when we eat animal protein, 00:19:39.64\00:19:41.24 the pancreatic enzymes are used up 00:19:41.28\00:19:44.21 to digest the animal protein. 00:19:44.25\00:19:46.15 Those pancreatic enzymes, if they were not used up 00:19:46.18\00:19:48.95 digesting animal protein, could actually help 00:19:48.98\00:19:51.75 to attack those cancer cells and destroy them. 00:19:51.79\00:19:55.19 So a plant-based diet 00:19:55.22\00:19:56.56 is the way to go to fight cancer. 00:19:56.59\00:19:57.93 Amen. We're out of time. 00:19:57.96\00:20:00.30 Gentlemen, I want to thank you both. 00:20:00.33\00:20:02.50 I know you're both busy doctors here. 00:20:02.53\00:20:05.33 And I want to thank you, friends, but don't go away, 00:20:05.37\00:20:07.87 Dr. Ramirez and Dr. Nedley are up next. 00:20:07.90\00:20:11.07 Welcome to NEWSTART Now. 00:20:47.21\00:20:48.54 I'm Dr. Neil Nedley, President of Weimar Institute, 00:20:48.58\00:20:51.51 and with me today is Dr. Eddie Ramirez, 00:20:51.55\00:20:54.45 one of our researchers and physicians 00:20:54.48\00:20:56.25 here at NEWSTART, 00:20:56.28\00:20:57.62 who also teaches at Weimar College. 00:20:57.65\00:21:00.76 Actually, we've been teaming up together 00:21:00.79\00:21:02.36 to do quite a number of studies, 00:21:02.39\00:21:04.79 looking at NEWSTART and a lot of other things 00:21:04.83\00:21:06.66 that happen here at Weimar 00:21:06.70\00:21:08.13 in depression and anxiety recovery as well. 00:21:08.16\00:21:10.90 But today, we're going to take a look 00:21:10.93\00:21:12.77 at a subgroup of patients 00:21:12.80\00:21:15.27 that this scientific journal was very interested in. 00:21:15.30\00:21:18.71 It's a sub group called postmenopausal women. 00:21:18.74\00:21:23.14 And of course, a lot of women when they're younger 00:21:23.18\00:21:25.71 look forward to the days 00:21:25.75\00:21:27.42 when they won't have to go through 00:21:27.45\00:21:28.88 that monthly cycle 00:21:28.92\00:21:30.55 and they won't have to worry about that bleeding. 00:21:30.59\00:21:33.19 But unfortunately, when they are ready to go 00:21:33.22\00:21:36.96 through that cycle and afterwards, 00:21:36.99\00:21:39.49 they tend to get pretty unhealthy here in America, 00:21:39.53\00:21:42.66 their cholesterols go up, their waist lines go up. 00:21:42.70\00:21:46.17 And even though they're not having periods, 00:21:46.20\00:21:48.44 they're unhealthy and they're at the risk 00:21:48.47\00:21:50.27 of a lot of problems like heart disease, and stroke, 00:21:50.31\00:21:53.61 and breast cancer, and all sorts of other issues. 00:21:53.64\00:21:57.35 And so how many postmenopausal women 00:21:57.38\00:22:00.98 were looked at in this study, doc? 00:22:01.02\00:22:02.58 We had 793 ladies that have gone through this 00:22:02.62\00:22:08.26 14 years of data that we have on this NEWSTART Program. 00:22:08.29\00:22:11.79 Okay. So this was 14 years of data. 00:22:11.83\00:22:14.46 Of course, there's a lot more people 00:22:14.50\00:22:16.60 that have gone through the program on this, 00:22:16.63\00:22:18.77 but we didn't have that past data available for us. 00:22:18.80\00:22:23.00 So this is more recent, 14 years, so brand new, 00:22:23.04\00:22:27.58 modern women, many of them or most of them, 00:22:27.61\00:22:30.71 of course, they're still around. 00:22:30.75\00:22:32.08 In fact, if you came to NEWSTART, 00:22:32.11\00:22:33.45 I would imagine pretty much all of them are still around 00:22:33.48\00:22:36.22 as long as they're carrying through 00:22:36.25\00:22:38.62 what they've learned here, which most do. 00:22:38.65\00:22:41.49 And so tell us a little bit about what happened 00:22:41.52\00:22:43.53 to these almost 800 women? 00:22:43.56\00:22:45.96 Yeah, well, something we see in medical consultation, 00:22:45.99\00:22:48.90 as they pass through that change, 00:22:48.93\00:22:51.00 their numbers in cholesterol 00:22:51.03\00:22:52.47 and so forth start going in the wrong direction. 00:22:52.50\00:22:56.04 For example, on the LDL cholesterol, 00:22:56.07\00:22:58.94 very good cholesterol 00:22:58.97\00:23:00.74 that correlates to heart disease and stroke 00:23:00.78\00:23:03.65 and very negative events, 00:23:03.68\00:23:06.35 they were able to lower it very nicely 00:23:06.38\00:23:08.58 from 135 on average, 00:23:08.62\00:23:11.39 by the end 117 their average. 00:23:11.42\00:23:14.66 Okay, and that's not using any medicine at all? 00:23:14.69\00:23:17.03 That is actually without any medication 00:23:17.06\00:23:19.73 to lower cholesterol. 00:23:19.76\00:23:21.43 Just a few days of lifestyle changes. 00:23:21.46\00:23:23.87 It's amazing what can happen. 00:23:23.90\00:23:26.37 From years of beating your body up 00:23:26.40\00:23:29.04 through poor diet and exercise, 00:23:29.07\00:23:30.94 what can happen when you come to Weimar 00:23:30.97\00:23:32.64 in just a matter of a few days, 00:23:32.67\00:23:35.01 how quickly the body starts to heal itself. 00:23:35.04\00:23:37.75 And especially in this particular age group, 00:23:37.78\00:23:41.45 that's the time that people start taking medications. 00:23:41.48\00:23:44.62 And when a physicians start seeing these numbers, 00:23:44.65\00:23:47.16 he gets worried, and adding, and adding, 00:23:47.19\00:23:49.59 and adding more medications 00:23:49.62\00:23:51.19 that have side effects and so forth. 00:23:51.23\00:23:53.29 So the beauty of this is that 00:23:53.33\00:23:54.73 these ladies were able to improve those numbers, 00:23:54.76\00:23:58.80 and at the same time, 00:23:58.83\00:24:00.34 decreasing some of the medications 00:24:00.37\00:24:02.34 and feeling great. 00:24:02.37\00:24:04.04 Other number that improved very nicely 00:24:04.07\00:24:05.97 was their mean cholesterol from 221, 00:24:06.01\00:24:10.35 it came down to a 195 and a mode of175. 00:24:10.38\00:24:15.72 Most of the ladies had that one 175 number. 00:24:15.75\00:24:19.35 Okay. So that's significant. 00:24:19.39\00:24:21.92 That's about 50, sometimes a 50 number drop 00:24:21.96\00:24:26.63 in milligrams per deciliter 00:24:26.66\00:24:28.20 just in a few days by coming to NEWSTART. 00:24:28.23\00:24:31.57 Also their weight improved. Their waiting improved. 00:24:31.60\00:24:33.94 On average they were losing four pounds, 00:24:33.97\00:24:36.60 which is very good. 00:24:36.64\00:24:37.97 We don't want that huge drop in weight 00:24:38.01\00:24:40.78 because you're going to gain it back. 00:24:40.81\00:24:42.44 As you start losing weight little by little 00:24:42.48\00:24:44.98 and you continue that, these numbers, 00:24:45.01\00:24:47.78 the other numbers will actually continue to improve 00:24:47.82\00:24:50.69 as you improve that weight. 00:24:50.72\00:24:52.85 Yes, and it also shows that the drop in LDL 00:24:52.89\00:24:56.09 was not due to the weight itself. 00:24:56.12\00:24:58.86 Sometimes if you lose a large amount of weight 00:24:58.89\00:25:01.00 even on a bad diet, 00:25:01.03\00:25:02.36 your cholesterol can come down a little bit. 00:25:02.40\00:25:04.27 But this shows that the diet itself 00:25:04.30\00:25:06.30 had dramatic improvement, 00:25:06.33\00:25:08.10 as well as the other lifestyle changes 00:25:08.14\00:25:10.01 in the LDL cholesterol as well as the weight. 00:25:10.04\00:25:13.38 So if you know of a postmenopausal woman 00:25:13.41\00:25:16.31 who needs an additional boost in their health 00:25:16.34\00:25:19.78 and needs to lower their risk factors for death, 00:25:19.81\00:25:22.95 dying, stroke, and heart attack, 00:25:22.98\00:25:25.62 I would encourage you to call us 00:25:25.65\00:25:27.36 here at Weimar Institute 00:25:27.39\00:25:29.32 so you can be part of the positive studies 00:25:29.36\00:25:31.96 that continue to come forward in the medical literature. 00:25:31.99\00:25:35.46 I'm Dr. Neil Nedley, and this is NEWSTART Now. 00:25:35.50\00:25:39.03 Join us again next week 00:25:39.07\00:25:40.40 and you'll hear about another exciting study 00:25:40.44\00:25:42.57 that was recently published. 00:25:42.60\00:25:45.74 When we look at the health status of Americans today, 00:25:45.77\00:25:48.38 it's alarming to see that 60% are either overweight or obese. 00:25:48.41\00:25:52.88 In addition, diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cancer, 00:25:58.35\00:26:01.82 and heart disorders are the leading cause 00:26:01.86\00:26:03.69 of so many complications and deaths every year. 00:26:03.73\00:26:06.73 Could it have something to do with what we eat? 00:26:11.13\00:26:13.90 After all, every one in four Americans 00:26:13.94\00:26:16.47 visit a fast food restaurant daily. 00:26:16.50\00:26:18.64 And with such easy access to quick-fix foods, 00:26:18.67\00:26:22.28 we tend to forget the poor health value 00:26:22.31\00:26:24.21 those foods actually offer. 00:26:24.25\00:26:27.15 Maybe it's the sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise 00:26:27.18\00:26:30.19 that we've become so accustomed to as a media-dependent world. 00:26:30.22\00:26:34.56 Whatever the cause of these diseases, 00:26:34.59\00:26:36.39 a solution has arrived. 00:26:36.42\00:26:40.60 The NEWSTART Lifestyle Center offers an enriching program 00:26:40.63\00:26:44.03 where patients can get a healing 00:26:44.07\00:26:45.77 of mind, body, and soul. 00:26:45.80\00:26:47.90 Located in the outskirts of Sacramento, 00:26:47.94\00:26:50.37 the NEWSTART Center is situated 00:26:50.41\00:26:52.17 on the beautiful campus 00:26:52.21\00:26:53.54 of Weimar Center of Health and Education 00:26:53.58\00:26:56.38 with scenic walking and hiking trails all around. 00:26:56.41\00:27:00.05 With a "whole plant foods eaten whole" motto, 00:27:00.08\00:27:03.42 the NEWSTART Center promotes a healthy plant-based diet 00:27:03.45\00:27:06.52 with an emphasis on natural foods. 00:27:06.55\00:27:09.09 The NEWSTART staff are made up 00:27:09.12\00:27:10.79 of California board-certified nurses, doctors, 00:27:10.83\00:27:14.60 dietitians, and therapists who work together 00:27:14.63\00:27:17.33 to assist each patient personally. 00:27:17.37\00:27:19.93 The staff are dedicated to each patient's success 00:27:19.97\00:27:22.57 in the program and are always there to guide, 00:27:22.60\00:27:25.41 advise, and encourage. 00:27:25.44\00:27:27.48 In addition to a healthy lifestyle, 00:27:27.51\00:27:29.68 NEWSTART also promotes a healthy exercise routine. 00:27:29.71\00:27:32.58 You're both in sequence, that's good.
