¤ ¤ 00:00:01.50\00:01:10.63 Hi friends and welcome to another edition of 00:01:10.67\00:01:13.44 NEWSTART Now. I'm your host Ron Gionnoni. In our studio with 00:01:13.47\00:01:18.31 me I have a lovely young lady by the name of Sherry Carole 00:01:18.37\00:01:23.14 right from Los Altos, California I want to take a look. Now watch 00:01:23.18\00:01:28.05 carefully when she first arrived and then we're going to take a 00:01:28.08\00:01:32.92 look at how she looks now. Within two months I went from 00:01:32.95\00:01:39.19 being fully capable of caring for myself, very active, just 00:01:39.23\00:01:44.73 really bubbly and vivacious in life having problems over here 00:01:44.77\00:01:50.67 but always a cheerful soul to having have someone prepare all 00:01:50.71\00:01:57.45 my food, do my hair, and dress me morning and night. And I had 00:01:57.48\00:02:04.19 to quit my job. So finally I went to a medical doctor and 00:02:04.22\00:02:10.03 he diagnosed me with a rapid, aggressive onset of rheumatoid 00:02:10.06\00:02:15.80 arthritis and that was just last Thursday. And so you need to get 00:02:15.86\00:02:20.17 on drugs right away; prednisone and this other cancer fighting 00:02:20.24\00:02:23.74 drug that really raises heck with your liver and your kidneys 00:02:23.77\00:02:27.68 and it is a really, really scary time because I kind of feel it 00:02:27.71\00:02:33.28 in my toe and in my knees. I'm fully committed to being here 00:02:33.31\00:02:38.85 I'm fully present. I'm willing to receive a healing. I'm 00:02:38.89\00:02:43.53 willing to receive the care and I'm really desiring to give back 00:02:43.56\00:02:48.33 while I'm here. I am looking for complete mobility in my hands 00:02:48.36\00:02:53.13 and to be comfortable in my entire body and knowing that 00:02:53.17\00:02:58.64 this disease has left my body permanently. And I believe that 00:02:58.67\00:03:03.75 that will happen. 00:03:03.78\00:03:05.11 type II diabetes and chronic obesity. This includes heart 00:03:11.05\00:03:12.39 attacks and strokes. That's 6-1/2747s crashing every day. 00:03:12.42\00:03:18.66 What's even more surprising is that the fix is easy. It's your 00:03:18.69\00:03:22.96 lifestyle. Wouldn't it be nice if you could actually add 00:03:23.00\00:03:26.03 quality years to your life rather than dying one organ at 00:03:26.07\00:03:29.50 a time. Obesity and diabetes are the cause of over a million 00:03:29.54\00:03:33.51 deaths per year and most diseases are reversible because 00:03:33.54\00:03:37.48 most diseases are lifestyle diseases; 00:03:37.51\00:03:39.48 Seriously now, they can be reversed and the quality of your 00:03:42.42\00:03:47.06 life can be renewed. 00:03:47.09\00:03:49.02 You will see dramatic changes in the first few days of our 00:03:55.06\00:03:58.13 program and you will be on the road to a better, more robust 00:03:58.17\00:04:01.20 quality of life. 00:04:01.24\00:04:02.57 Welcome back friends and in our studio is Sherry. Good to see 00:04:07.74\00:04:13.08 you. Good to see you too, Ron. 00:04:13.11\00:04:14.45 You are just glowing. 00:04:14.48\00:04:16.52 I feel a glow. 00:04:16.58\00:04:18.35 Yeah, you are. 00:04:18.39\00:04:20.06 I do. You know, I just feel this radiance and this light and this 00:04:20.12\00:04:23.22 transformation. 00:04:23.26\00:04:25.89 Do you remember 17 days ago when you got here? 00:04:25.93\00:04:29.36 I didn't until I was reminded. My doctor, by my doctor and he 00:04:29.40\00:04:35.20 said do you realize what you were like the first day I saw 00:04:35.24\00:04:41.34 you. And he reminded me that with the arthritis that was so 00:04:41.38\00:04:48.02 painful in my hands that he couldn't touch my hands. My body 00:04:48.08\00:04:54.72 hurt so badly because of just tension that I was under. 00:04:54.76\00:04:59.69 I think it was just so frozen with fear that I remember the 00:04:59.73\00:05:04.00 the first night's sleep I had I couldn't even turn over in bed. 00:05:04.03\00:05:07.54 I just had to lay there. Every time I tried to turn I was in 00:05:07.57\00:05:11.41 agony. When he tried to just put a stethoscope on my chest, I 00:05:11.44\00:05:16.75 go oh don't touch me. Don't touch me anywhere. Now when I 00:05:16.78\00:05:22.08 get reminded of it it's very vivid because when you and I 00:05:22.12\00:05:26.52 were sitting here before, the most important thing to me was 00:05:26.55\00:05:31.33 getting rid of the arthritis or finding out a solution and 00:05:31.36\00:05:35.83 that the fear, the gripping fear that I felt and the prognosis 00:05:35.86\00:05:40.84 if there's only one way out of this and that is through drugs 00:05:40.90\00:05:45.27 that they use for cancer, and prednisone, and not having taken 00:05:45.34\00:05:49.58 antibiotics for 30 years because for me they've created more 00:05:49.61\00:05:53.82 side effects than the actual condition that I had. I just 00:05:53.85\00:05:58.15 opted out of that solution. But I came up against rheumatoid 00:05:58.19\00:06:02.49 arthritis and I felt that I didn't think I had other 00:06:02.52\00:06:09.06 solutions and I went into panic. 00:06:09.10\00:06:11.17 Do you remember, you were in such panic, do you remember the 00:06:11.20\00:06:15.97 phone calls and the texting that we had? 00:06:16.00\00:06:17.54 The multitude of them. 00:06:17.57\00:06:18.91 The multitude we had where you said well I don't think I can 00:06:18.94\00:06:23.08 make it and you were coming in with all these excuses. Do you 00:06:23.11\00:06:27.28 remember what I kept saying to you? 00:06:27.32\00:06:29.22 You'll be blessed. Come and you'll be blessed. And now I 00:06:29.25\00:06:36.89 understand through this journey here that I had what you meant 00:06:36.93\00:06:42.53 by that. At least for me, because we all have our 00:06:42.56\00:06:44.60 individual blessings and by talking to everyone, if you 00:06:44.63\00:06:47.74 could interview every one they've all had a blessing 00:06:47.77\00:06:50.81 beyond their expectations. For me it was really extra special 00:06:50.87\00:06:55.44 because it was so profound and so unexpected. Because I came 00:06:55.48\00:06:59.61 here, I thought, for my crippling arthritis. That's what 00:06:59.65\00:07:06.55 I thought. But I marinated in the spirit of NEWSTART and 00:07:06.59\00:07:13.43 fresh start and new beginnings and a different way of living. 00:07:13.50\00:07:15.83 It was so congruent from every one. The love of Jesus is 00:07:15.86\00:07:20.94 preeminent everywhere. And whenever you were doubting they 00:07:20.97\00:07:26.14 say can I pray for you? Let's just pray together, right? But 00:07:26.17\00:07:31.21 for me it happened two days ago when I woke up and I thought 00:07:31.25\00:07:36.69 okay this program's about over and my pain is less but it's not 00:07:36.75\00:07:42.16 gone. I was expecting to be here on camera touting how my 00:07:42.19\00:07:46.23 rheumatoid arthritis was completely gone. But what 00:07:46.26\00:07:50.33 happened was far better because God spoke to me. And that 00:07:50.37\00:07:54.07 doesn't happen in such vivid language like we'd 00:07:54.10\00:07:57.01 love to have it 00:07:57.04\00:07:58.37 happen. For some people it does. For me the message that came 00:07:58.41\00:08:02.14 through to me from the Holy Spirit was you've been granted 00:08:02.21\00:08:07.72 the gift and the blessing that I had in store for you and that 00:08:07.75\00:08:13.46 gift was the certainty of my salvation through the teachings 00:08:13.49\00:08:19.09 that happened here through Damon the pastor and through everybody 00:08:19.13\00:08:24.10 that's so congruent. There isn't one individual here that doesn't 00:08:24.17\00:08:29.10 walk the talk of Jesus which is love and encouragement and 00:08:29.14\00:08:34.61 cheer leading. When everybody else is gloom and doom and 00:08:34.64\00:08:40.05 there's no your life from here on out is going to be struggle 00:08:40.08\00:08:45.65 and limitation and lack. And I accepted that gift. The old me 00:08:45.69\00:08:49.92 before I got here would have said yeah I know my salvation 00:08:49.96\00:08:54.66 Lord, I got baptized and I've been walking the walk and I 00:08:54.70\00:08:59.43 understand. I've been reborn and baptized. But the good Lord 00:08:59.47\00:09:03.74 convicted me here and I truly as God is my absolute witness 00:09:03.77\00:09:07.98 had I not come here I would not have eternal salvation. I really 00:09:08.01\00:09:15.18 know from the conviction that I got from the sermons every 00:09:15.22\00:09:20.92 single morning at 7 a. m. after we had our song worship and I 00:09:20.96\00:09:25.46 had the Bible study with Damon. He really has the modern day 00:09:25.49\00:09:29.96 Steps to Christ. So it transforms you. 00:09:30.00\00:09:34.04 I want to ask you another question. Yeah. What happened to 00:09:34.07\00:09:38.51 the fear? What happened to the anxiety? What happened to the 00:09:38.54\00:09:43.14 depression? What happened to that old self? Did she disappear 00:09:43.18\00:09:48.85 Is she in there somewhere. I don't feel her anymore like if I 00:09:48.88\00:09:55.92 really examine my soul. You know I think there's always if I feel 00:09:55.99\00:10:03.00 arthritis in my foot or I feel it in my hands and I wake up 00:10:03.03\00:10:06.33 and I have the pain, I no longer give it any energy on where that 00:10:06.37\00:10:15.74 might go because I'm too much focused on my future with God 00:10:15.78\00:10:22.35 and the richness of that. 00:10:22.38\00:10:24.75 You know what pleases me so much Sherry is that I remember 00:10:24.79\00:10:28.66 talking to you on the phone before you got here and then 00:10:28.69\00:10:33.03 our first interview and you were in a state of being or 00:10:33.06\00:10:37.33 mind state that you didn't think there was any hope but maybe you 00:10:37.37\00:10:41.90 find some here. And I saw when we met again not to many days 00:10:41.94\00:10:47.18 later, you saw it very clearly that there was hope. 00:10:47.21\00:10:52.11 Well, and it's not false hope. Yes. I think this world is full 00:10:52.15\00:10:57.75 of false hope and when you're not on the path... A realization 00:10:57.79\00:11:02.46 that came to me is you know so often we talk about the narrow 00:11:02.49\00:11:07.43 path, right, to salvation, and through this experience the path 00:11:07.50\00:11:12.47 might be narrow, but it is overflowing with beauty and it's 00:11:12.50\00:11:17.91 overflowing with grace and gifts along the way. And we all 00:11:17.94\00:11:23.24 kind of think oh I have to go on this narrow grinding path and we 00:11:23.28\00:11:29.98 walk five miles a day here. We do our hydrotherapy baths, we 00:11:30.02\00:11:36.02 have our morning stretch, 35 health lectures. So I've come 00:11:36.06\00:11:41.33 out far more educated so I feel more understanding of how to 00:11:41.36\00:11:46.60 structure my life so that cancer doesn't scare me because I 00:11:46.63\00:11:51.84 understand the cause now and have been. 00:11:51.87\00:11:54.48 And you've made it very simple. Then I had 12 cooking or 9 00:11:54.51\00:12:00.68 cooking classes. Eleven. Yeah 11, right. And I didn't ever 00:12:00.72\00:12:06.79 cook before. I'm 65 and I never cooked. So how I got this far in 00:12:06.86\00:12:12.26 life, my husband cooks incredibly well. 00:12:12.29\00:12:15.06 Maybe you can teach him a few things. 00:12:15.10\00:12:17.77 But I fell in love with cooking and I fell in love with the 00:12:17.83\00:12:21.07 flavors of the food and the healing, how food is my medicine 00:12:21.10\00:12:25.07 and that's they teach here. So it's been a transformation but 00:12:25.11\00:12:29.44 I know it was a transformation because I was immersed in God's 00:12:29.48\00:12:34.95 will and his way and his word. And it was very clear and I did 00:12:34.98\00:12:40.26 not think that this was going to be the outcome for me, I have to 00:12:40.29\00:12:45.49 say. I'm still pleasantly surprised and the doctor saw me 00:12:45.53\00:12:49.56 yesterday and he took a double take. He was waiting for me to 00:12:49.60\00:12:53.03 do my treadmill test and he took a double take and he goes 00:12:53.07\00:12:57.97 Oh my gosh. You're alive, you know you have a light in you 00:12:58.01\00:13:02.64 because I had so many phobias when I came with him and I was 00:13:02.68\00:13:08.78 distraught with them. One by one so patiently they worked 00:13:08.82\00:13:14.09 with me. So I feel the light of the Lord inside and I think 00:13:14.12\00:13:19.33 that's what's shining through but I connected here. 00:13:19.36\00:13:24.93 Connected all the dots. Sherry I want to think you. We're run out 00:13:24.97\00:13:27.20 of time. I understand. 00:13:27.24\00:13:29.80 God bless you. I want to hear more from you. 00:13:29.87\00:13:32.17 God bless you. 00:13:32.21\00:13:33.58 And so I hope to hear from you again real soon. 00:13:33.61\00:13:37.18 Friends, God bless you. Don't go away. Dr. Gallant is up next. 00:13:37.21\00:13:42.88 Welcome back friends and help me welcome Dr. Roger Gallant. 00:13:45.69\00:13:48.52 Ron, good to see you my brother. 00:13:48.56\00:13:50.53 Good to see you. I want to get right into talking about Sherry 00:13:50.56\00:13:55.26 because she's gone through this magnificent change. You know 00:13:55.30\00:14:00.40 when she got here she could just see... when she first arrived 00:14:00.44\00:14:05.51 she was in a little bit of a panic. 00:14:05.54\00:14:07.74 She was. 00:14:07.78\00:14:10.15 What do you think happened here? 00:14:10.18\00:14:11.51 She admits that, you know, that she was worried and that her 00:14:11.55\00:14:15.72 emotions were up and down and she wasn't where she wanted to 00:14:15.78\00:14:21.99 be. Through perseverance and talking through a lot of things, 00:14:22.02\00:14:28.23 that changed dramatically by the end of the program. 00:14:28.26\00:14:32.97 She shared with me that the chaplain and you and me, but 00:14:33.00\00:14:36.74 maybe she was just trying to flatter me, I don't know, but 00:14:36.77\00:14:42.51 certainly you and the chaplain had a significant what was the 00:14:42.54\00:14:48.15 word she used, I don't recall. But how you kind of led her 00:14:48.18\00:14:53.36 along the way and had this change, this epiphany of God and 00:14:53.39\00:14:58.49 who he is. Tell me a little bit about that. 00:14:58.53\00:15:01.26 You know, praise the Lord, she came here. She has a history of 00:15:01.30\00:15:06.37 rheumatoid arthritis and has a lot of pain and swelling in her 00:15:06.40\00:15:12.24 hands and as her emotions go up and down so does her rheumatoid 00:15:12.27\00:15:18.11 arthritis. Isn't that interesting. 00:15:18.15\00:15:19.48 And one of the biggest blessings for her was coming here and 00:15:19.51\00:15:25.15 reconnecting with God, having a spiritual awakening which led to 00:15:25.19\00:15:30.79 a physical improvement. 00:15:30.83\00:15:33.06 That's interesting how because this is about the second or 00:15:33.09\00:15:36.73 third time that you've said something similar to this. 00:15:36.77\00:15:40.30 You went to GYC and tell that story briefly. I know it'll take 00:15:40.34\00:15:44.44 about a minute. 00:15:44.47\00:15:45.81 Sure. There was somebody at GYC who mentioned that there was a 00:15:45.84\00:15:50.41 pastor who had lived a healthy lifestyle, eating a plant-based 00:15:50.45\00:15:55.02 diet, had a relationship with God and exercised, all the good 00:15:55.05\00:16:00.22 things and came down with cancer And what he came to figure out 00:16:00.26\00:16:04.73 as his nidus, his stimulus, if you would, for this cancer to 00:16:04.79\00:16:10.73 develop was his father had left when he was very young and gone 00:16:10.77\00:16:16.20 off and started another life and he realized that he had never 00:16:16.27\00:16:21.68 forgiven his father. So he called him up and said to him, 00:16:21.71\00:16:27.38 I forgive you. And they talked and they had a reconnection, if 00:16:27.42\00:16:32.09 you would. An that's when his cancer started to improve. 00:16:32.12\00:16:36.96 So our emotions and our lifestyle play a significant 00:16:36.99\00:16:41.46 role in how functional and how well our immune system is 00:16:41.50\00:16:45.90 working and if our immune system is not in optimal condition, 00:16:45.93\00:16:50.31 if it's not working properly then it's very hard for us to be 00:16:50.34\00:16:54.64 in optimal health because our immune system plays such a 00:16:54.68\00:16:57.81 crucial role. 00:16:57.85\00:16:59.18 You know, I hope you don't mind that I've been using that story 00:16:59.21\00:17:02.78 for the last couple of weeks since you went to GYC and I've 00:17:02.82\00:17:06.45 actually counseled people over the phone and I've asked them 00:17:06.49\00:17:10.46 who in your life have you not forgiven. And I had one lady 00:17:10.49\00:17:15.80 just two days ago just broke down in tears. She says myself. 00:17:15.83\00:17:21.70 She'd been through quite a bit as a young girl and we were 00:17:21.74\00:17:26.07 able to help her just over the phone. So now she's coming to 00:17:26.11\00:17:30.51 the NEWSTART program to boot. You know, a lot of our viewers 00:17:30.55\00:17:34.58 think and I know Sherry did as well, we'll come here to eat 00:17:34.62\00:17:38.72 right and exercise and get some hydro and see the doctor and 00:17:38.75\00:17:43.69 then get well. But you've really brought out a spiritual 00:17:43.73\00:17:48.66 component that needs to be talked about even more. 00:17:48.70\00:17:52.23 Absolutely. You know I'm reading a book by a neurosurgeon in 00:17:52.30\00:17:53.64 San Diego. He started incorporating prayer into 00:17:53.67\00:17:58.17 his practice and he found people started to do a lot better. 00:17:58.24\00:18:02.11 but he realized there were some patients who still had a hard 00:18:02.14\00:18:06.92 time. And what he found out is forgiveness is so crucial. 00:18:06.95\00:18:11.09 Sometimes they hadn't forgiven somebody else, sometimes they 00:18:11.15\00:18:15.12 hadn't forgiven, as you just said, themselves. So they have 00:18:15.16\00:18:20.33 this technically perfect, if you can use that term, procedure, 00:18:20.36\00:18:25.50 but it doesn't give the results that were anticipated and 00:18:25.53\00:18:30.04 expected and as he digs deeper and deeper he comes to find out 00:18:30.11\00:18:34.18 that they need forgiveness from others, they need forgiveness 00:18:34.21\00:18:38.25 from God and they may need forgiveness from themselves. 00:18:38.28\00:18:41.65 Well I see that this has happened with Sherry and I want 00:18:41.68\00:18:45.02 to ask you, you know the first week she was here she came to me 00:18:45.05\00:18:49.89 and says oh Ron thank you so much for pushing me to get me 00:18:49.92\00:18:54.26 here. My hands are, the swelling I can close them and I can do 00:18:54.30\00:18:58.60 things I wasn't able to do but then the second week they 00:18:58.63\00:19:02.07 started to swell again. 00:19:02.10\00:19:04.61 She's had challenges and I believe that part of this is 00:19:04.67\00:19:10.65 part of the whole great controversy, the battle between 00:19:10.68\00:19:15.78 good and evil and she's made decisions to be on the side of 00:19:15.85\00:19:21.02 good and I think she's seeing some increased tribulation 00:19:21.06\00:19:25.53 because of that. But the beautiful thing is she did a 00:19:25.59\00:19:30.00 treadmill yesterday, second to the last day of the program and 00:19:30.03\00:19:35.54 she went for 12 minutes. Wow. And did much better than I 00:19:35.57\00:19:41.94 thought she was going to do and I think better than she thought 00:19:41.98\00:19:46.88 she was going to do as well. So I was able to share with her 00:19:46.92\00:19:52.05 that she's actually healthier than she thinks she is. And I 00:19:52.09\00:19:56.89 was able to share with her that her outlook, how she looks 00:19:56.93\00:20:01.66 at things makes a big difference on how healthy her body reacts. 00:20:01.70\00:20:08.07 So I've shown her that by just changing her outlook it actually 00:20:08.10\00:20:13.61 improves her overall health and she is feeling so much better 00:20:13.64\00:20:19.11 today. 00:20:19.15\00:20:20.48 And she looks just totally different today. All of a sudden 00:20:20.52\00:20:24.09 her face is just glowing, she's just so happy and thrilled and 00:20:24.12\00:20:28.16 her husband, he couldn't be happier. 00:20:28.19\00:20:31.13 He's very supportive and I told her that's one of the blessings 00:20:31.19\00:20:33.96 that she needs to acknowledge and be thankful to God for. 00:20:34.00\00:20:37.60 Because her husband is running the business that they usually 00:20:37.63\00:20:41.37 run together and he's there by himself under stress and he 00:20:41.40\00:20:45.71 could be saying when are you coming back, when are you coming 00:20:45.74\00:20:48.28 back, but he's been very supportive about her being here 00:20:48.31\00:20:51.98 and getting what she needs in order for her to be healthy. 00:20:52.01\00:20:55.55 Now what's the prognosis for her. Do people when they leave 00:20:55.58\00:20:59.49 here do they all of a sudden go back to their old lifestyle and 00:20:59.52\00:21:03.36 all this goes away, I mean, what's your thinking? 00:21:03.39\00:21:06.83 The goal is we want them to not go back to their old lifestyle. 00:21:06.86\00:21:10.67 Because as they resume old habits the illness starts to 00:21:10.70\00:21:15.40 increase again. So we want her to be on a new lifestyle, on 00:21:15.44\00:21:19.51 God's lifestyle, if you would. And I think she will be able to 00:21:19.57\00:21:23.28 do that at home. She has a good support system and she has some 00:21:23.35\00:21:27.02 plans and we've been talking about how to incorporate what 00:21:27.05\00:21:32.12 we're doing here to her home. But I really find that the 00:21:32.15\00:21:35.56 support she gets from her friends and her husband and then 00:21:35.59\00:21:38.96 some other people that she knows is going to really be important 00:21:38.99\00:21:42.46 for her because she tends to be a person whose emotions can go 00:21:42.50\00:21:46.10 up and down. So she needs to have her emotions in check and 00:21:46.13\00:21:49.14 having this support will be helpful for that because that 00:21:49.20\00:21:52.17 will help to keep her body healthy. 00:21:52.21\00:21:54.48 One final question Doctor. For the people out there who have 00:21:54.54\00:21:58.35 arthritis, can we help all people with arthritis. 00:21:58.38\00:22:05.29 I believe that the lifestyle that we're promoting is God's 00:22:05.32\00:22:09.29 lifestyle and I believe that lifestyle is anti-inflammatory. 00:22:09.32\00:22:14.43 So I think it's going to make your inflammation, which a large 00:22:14.46\00:22:18.17 portion of the arthritis is inflammation, I think it's going 00:22:18.20\00:22:21.34 to make your inflammation less, make your arthritis less. 00:22:21.37\00:22:24.97 I can't tell everybody it's going to make everything go away 00:22:25.01\00:22:28.98 but we've had several people who've come here who have said 00:22:29.01\00:22:32.71 I'm not pain free, but it is so much better than it was before. 00:22:32.78\00:22:36.75 I can live with this and that's where we want to be. We want 00:22:36.79\00:22:40.89 to put your body in the best condition so that it can be 00:22:40.92\00:22:44.46 healthy and what I tell the guests when they're here is 00:22:44.49\00:22:47.40 we want to keep you healthy because you want to be able to 00:22:47.46\00:22:51.60 serve God and as you serve God it helps to keep your health 00:22:51.63\00:22:55.74 going because God wants you to be able to serve him. 00:22:55.77\00:22:58.37 True, true. We're out of time. I want to thank you Doctor. 00:22:58.41\00:23:02.51 Friends don't go away. Dr. Nedley and Dr. Ramirez 00:23:02.54\00:23:06.85 are up next. 00:23:06.88\00:23:10.45 Welcome to NEWSTART Now. I'm Dr. Neal Nedley and with 00:23:10.49\00:23:13.42 me today is Dr. Eddy Ramirez. There have been some exciting 00:23:13.46\00:23:17.19 things happening at the NEWSTART program and scientific journals 00:23:17.23\00:23:21.50 are very interested in the changes that take place in the 00:23:21.53\00:23:25.93 program, just coming here for 18 days, not only during the 00:23:25.97\00:23:30.41 program but what happens after the program. This is kind of a 00:23:30.44\00:23:36.04 unique study that was published in Obesity Reviews in April 2016 00:23:36.08\00:23:41.68 by Dr. Ramirez and myself and other members of the NEWSTART 00:23:41.72\00:23:47.16 team. We also often have students involved here at 00:23:47.19\00:23:50.66 Weimar Institute in our studies and that's one of the exciting 00:23:50.69\00:23:53.76 things about being a college student here at Weimar is we get 00:23:53.80\00:23:56.70 to see all of these changes and college students get to publish 00:23:56.73\00:23:59.63 in the scientific literature. Well Dr. Ramirez today we're 00:23:59.67\00:24:04.04 going to centering in on a major problem in this country 00:24:04.07\00:24:08.84 and that is of childhood obesity Now a lot of people think 00:24:08.91\00:24:14.75 NEWSTART is just for adults but this was a study done on 11 00:24:14.78\00:24:19.85 children who went through the NEWSTART program and they went 00:24:19.89\00:24:24.69 through due to having pretty significant obesity levels, even 00:24:24.73\00:24:29.46 levels of morbid obesity in childhood. I don't know if 00:24:29.50\00:24:32.70 you've seen these people but if you go to Walmart or if you go 00:24:32.73\00:24:36.71 to any mall in America you're going to see kids that are very 00:24:36.74\00:24:40.68 overweight and it sets them up for so many problems by the time 00:24:40.74\00:24:44.65 they're 25 or 30 even. Their risk of death from emboli and 00:24:44.68\00:24:49.05 all sorts of things goes up and so I'm very interested about 00:24:49.08\00:24:52.92 this, these 11 patients. And obviously Obesity Reviews was 00:24:52.95\00:24:56.12 very interested as well as they accepted the study for 00:24:56.19\00:24:59.29 publication. What did we found out about these 11 patients? 00:24:59.33\00:25:02.86 So tell us about them first before they came to the program. 00:25:02.90\00:25:07.27 That's right. Well these were a small group of patients that had 00:25:07.30\00:25:11.31 gone to the NEWSTART program and as you said so it's because they 00:25:11.34\00:25:15.34 had some significant health problems and we want to show you 00:25:15.38\00:25:20.08 here that when they came to the program they were able to 00:25:20.12\00:25:24.52 decrease their body mass index and also their overall weight 00:25:24.55\00:25:28.96 and also other markers. We were also taking things like 00:25:28.99\00:25:33.46 cholesterols, triglycerides, and these type of markers also 00:25:33.50\00:25:38.37 improved as they improved also their weight. On average the 00:25:38.40\00:25:43.27 loss was of seven pounds which may not sound like humongous but 00:25:43.30\00:25:48.21 it's actually very good. We don't want that type of very, 00:25:48.24\00:25:52.21 very dramatic weight loss because a person will gain it 00:25:52.25\00:25:56.82 again. But in this way if you can keep up that change, you 00:25:56.85\00:26:01.42 will keep losing weight and feeling better. 00:26:01.46\00:26:04.19 There's something that I personally have seen on the 00:26:04.23\00:26:06.83 medical consultation. I have gotten mothers to bring their 00:26:06.86\00:26:11.93 child to me and say Doctor I think my son has parasites. Look 00:26:11.97\00:26:16.74 how thin he is. I checked him and he is perfectly fine. He has 00:26:16.77\00:26:22.18 normal weight and that weight corresponds to the normal height 00:26:22.21\00:26:27.58 Why is the mother concerned? Because most of the other 00:26:27.62\00:26:30.49 children that he plays with, they don't have a normal weight. 00:26:30.52\00:26:35.02 And compared to them he looks too thin. So we actually are 00:26:35.06\00:26:39.53 changing the definition of what's normal to call it 00:26:39.56\00:26:42.83 abnormal and what is not normal into calling normal and that is 00:26:42.86\00:26:46.37 something that is worrisome. 00:26:46.40\00:26:47.74 Okay, so seven pounds in 18 days so that's a pound about every 00:26:47.77\00:26:53.98 two to three days they lost and if they continue on this program 00:26:54.01\00:26:59.25 at home, our research shows they will continue to lose weight 00:26:59.28\00:27:04.02 at about that same pace. 00:27:04.05\00:27:05.89 So if you're losing a couple of pounds a week 00:27:05.92\00:27:10.13 which is a good healthy thing to do in a year's time your down 00:27:10.16\00:27:15.53 well over 100 pounds. 00:27:15.56\00:27:16.90 And that's the idea. The idea is not just a temporary improvement 00:27:16.97\00:27:21.70 but we want the person to improve permanently, to change 00:27:21.74\00:27:25.87 the diet permanently. That's why we're going to teach you how to 00:27:25.91\00:27:29.01 cook at home. We're going to give you plenty of health 00:27:29.04\00:27:31.71 lectures so you can understand why we're proposing the changes 00:27:31.75\00:27:36.89 that we are proposing. Not only that this number is the average 00:27:36.92\00:27:40.92 which means some actually went a little bit more, some went 00:27:40.96\00:27:45.19 actually a little bit less, but the idea is for you to keep 00:27:45.23\00:27:49.06 going. Another paper that we published we showed that once 00:27:49.10\00:27:52.60 you reached your normal weight you will no longer continue 00:27:52.63\00:27:56.04 losing that weight and you will maintain that healthy weight. 00:27:56.07\00:27:59.57 That's exciting. Thanks for being here Dr. Ramirez and for 00:27:59.61\00:28:03.38 NEWSTART Now I'm Dr. Neal Nedley Join us again next week. 00:28:03.41\00:28:07.15
