01:12 Hi, friends, and welcome
01:13 to another edition of NEWSTART Now. 01:16 I'm your host, Ron Giannoni. 01:18 In our studios with me today 01:20 I have Kath Mauller from Missouri. 01:24 Now this is unusual interview, 01:26 I want you to pay close attention 01:28 especially for you cancer patients. 01:33 Let's break away when she first came. 01:38 I am currently dealing with cancer, possibly. 01:43 I was diagnosed with breast cancer 01:46 in October of 2015, 01:50 had the tumor removed, 01:51 had a double mastectomy in December, 01:55 started chemo in January. 01:59 I did eight weeks of chemo, 02:02 and decided that was not for me, 02:06 and at that point I knew 02:07 that the chemo was making me sicker 02:11 rather than making me better. 02:14 So I decided to quit the chemo. 02:19 The reason why I may be still dealing with cancer 02:21 is they found cancer in my lymph nodes 02:24 and one cancer cells broke through that lymph node cell 02:30 and so, you know, 02:33 it could be anywhere in the body 02:35 so we don't know if it's metastasized or not. 02:40 I know that you're going to... 02:41 NEWSTART is going to give me a jumpstart on exercise, 02:45 that's probably been one of my biggest downfalls 02:49 is getting started, 02:51 you know, the first step is the hardest. 02:55 So I know that by getting started 03:00 I'll go home and continue 03:02 because I already be in that mode. 03:08 Welcome back, friends. Kath, how are you? 03:11 I'm, well, thank you. Yes, you are. 03:14 You look well. 03:16 It's almost hard to believe 03:17 that you have any kind of ailments, 03:20 and I guess you really don't. 03:22 Tell us about a couple things. 03:25 During our first interview 03:26 you never told me about little lumps 03:29 you had here and there in your breast and chest area. 03:32 Tell us about that? 03:35 I had quit the chemo in March, 03:38 and I guess over the next couple of months 03:44 I had acquired some lumps in my breast, 03:49 and I started seeing a holistic doctor 03:52 and he put me on some Viscum Mali 03:56 which is a mistletoe from a European apple tree. 04:01 And so I do injections in my stomach. 04:04 He was concerned that they may be tumors. 04:07 I thought that it was just a muscle, 04:10 you know, that they had flattened down 04:12 into the breast. 04:15 But since I've been here doing the fever baths... 04:20 But when you got here, you still had lumps. 04:22 I still had the lumps when I got here. 04:25 And you've done the fever treatments... 04:26 I've done the fever treatments and continued my shots. 04:31 And on my right side 04:33 those lumps are completely gone, 04:35 and on the left side 04:38 there's maybe a quarter of the size left. 04:42 Tell us about fever treatments? 04:44 What exactly are the therapist doing to create 04:49 what we call fever treatment? 04:51 They have a tub, 04:53 and you enter the tub 04:56 of 110, 111 degree water 05:02 and you sit in the water 05:04 and they raise your temperature with that warm water. 05:09 And so it's very intensive. 05:13 What about the brain, doesn't it fry the brain? 05:16 They cover the head in a towel. 05:20 I knew that, I just wanted you to say... 05:22 For our viewers, you know, they... 05:24 Don't try this at home by the way. 05:25 No, do not. 05:27 Not unless you have a companion and trained. 05:30 I would not try this without training, for sure, 05:33 because it can be detrimental, 05:36 it's a very dangerous procedure to do on your own. 05:40 So now these fever treatments 05:41 were to build your immune system, correct? 05:44 Yes. 05:46 They build 05:51 white blood cells. 05:53 Yes. 05:54 And so, or they increase the white blood cells. 05:59 And it increase the fighter cells. 06:01 The fighter cells, the white blood cells. 06:02 The little guys that look out for the cancer cells. 06:05 That's right. 06:06 And they get the machine guns and actually kill them. 06:09 That's right. 06:11 Yes. Yes. 06:12 And so they keep you in the fever period. 06:17 Once you reach the fever, 06:19 they keep you there for about 15, 20 minutes, 06:23 I think one day I was in it for 25 minutes. 06:27 Wow! 06:28 Did you get feeling little weird? 06:30 She pours icy cold water, ice cold water on my face, 06:36 and it just feels so good. 06:39 And over my head to keep the brain 06:42 from overheating 06:44 because you could damage the brain 06:46 if it gets overheated. 06:49 And then also she has a towel over my chest 06:53 to hold the heat in, while I'm in the tub. 06:58 And then just she takes my pulse and continues 07:02 to check my temperature. 07:04 And one day I reached 103.5 07:09 and this is the day I was there for 25 minutes. 07:12 And so, 07:14 she kept monitoring me pretty often, 07:19 more often than when I was at 102.7. 07:23 And so, anyway, 07:27 then once the time is over, 07:29 she starts cooling you down, 07:33 and in the end they hose you down 07:35 with cold water, and you're pretty much finished 07:38 and then you go back to your room. 07:40 And once they check your blood pressure 07:43 and your temperature again and make sure, 07:45 you know, your temperature is down 07:46 after you're cold. 07:48 And then I go back to my room 07:49 and I lay under the covers for an hour, 07:51 and continue to allow those white blood cells 07:55 to attack any cancer cells 07:58 or whatever it needs to attack that's foreign to the body. 08:01 Now, aside from the fever treatments, 08:06 you received many lectures I know, 08:09 there is about 50 of them, 08:11 and one that I get to do have fun doing them. 08:16 You learn things about alkalinity 08:19 and pH and such. 08:21 What would you advice 08:23 the folks watching that maybe have cancer 08:28 as far as keeping their alkalinity higher 08:31 their pH in balance or such. 08:36 Well, really they have a diet for everyone. 08:40 They really don't talk about 08:42 the alkalinity so... 08:46 But you know about that. 08:47 I know about the alkalinity because I had already started 08:51 that prior to coming to NEWSTART... 08:52 And we talked about the lemon drink. 08:54 But I found, yes. 08:57 I found out that everything on the salad bar is alkaline. 09:03 Everything that they feed us here is alkaline. 09:08 So we're getting the right amount of carbs, 09:11 we're getting the right amount of fat, 09:12 we're learning, 09:14 you know, how many carbs we're supposed to eat, 09:16 how many fats we're supposed to eat, 09:18 how many proteins, 09:20 and then you always eat a salad as big as your head. 09:24 So you want your, the majority of your diet 09:28 to be raw foods 09:30 that alkaline vegetables so... 09:36 Now what about the exercise for cancer? 09:40 They recommend lots of walking, lots of walking. 09:45 And they don't recommend really running 09:47 because that's harder on your bones and your joints. 09:52 You get more from walking than you do from running. 09:56 So, yeah, we walk, we go for digestive walks 10:01 so that your digestive system can digest the food 10:06 that you just ate. 10:08 So you were paying attention during these lectures. 10:12 Maybe a little bit. 10:14 Now, you didn't look like you needed to lose any weight, 10:17 but did you lose some weight while you're here? 10:19 I've lost 4.5 pounds since I've been here. 10:21 And how about inches? 10:24 Yes, she just showed me that today I lost 0.5 10:29 around my arms, 10:31 lost one around my waist, 10:35 1 inch, and 1.5 around my hips. 10:40 Was that necessary did you think? 10:43 I didn't really have to lose any weight, 10:46 but I really did want to lose five more pounds 10:49 is what I wanted to lose so I'm only shy of 0.5. 10:51 You wanted to get firm. 10:53 Okay, but you wanted to firm up a little bit because you're, 10:56 I could see the difference, you look stronger. 10:57 Well, I need to firm up. 11:00 Yes, we all do, don't we? 11:02 Yeah, I need to firm up. Especially at older age. 11:03 Yeah. 11:05 Well, it's been a delight having you here 11:07 and I just want to thank you 11:09 for your willingness to come here and share 11:12 because you're going to be seen all over the world. 11:15 Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. 11:17 But don't let that bother you. Thank you so much. 11:20 Thanks, Ron. God bless. 11:22 And I'll be in touch with you. Okay. 11:23 Thank you. 11:25 Friends, don't go away 11:26 because Dr. Gallant will be right with us. 11:30 When we look at the health status 11:32 of Americans today, 11:33 it's alarming to see 11:35 that 60% are either overweight or obese. 11:43 In addition, diseases 11:44 such as type 2 diabetes, cancer, and heart disorders 11:48 are the leading cause of so many complications 11:50 and deaths every year. 11:56 Could it have something to do with what we eat? 11:59 After all, every one in four Americans visits 12:02 a fast food restaurant daily, 12:03 and with such easy access to quick-fix foods, 12:07 we tend to forget the poor health value 12:09 those foods actually offer. 12:12 Maybe it's the sedentary lifestyle 12:14 and lack of exercise 12:15 that we've become so accustomed to as a media-dependant world. 12:19 Whatever the cause of these diseases, 12:21 a solution has arrived. 12:25 The NEWSTART Lifestyle Center offers 12:28 an enriching program 12:29 where patients can get 12:30 a healing of mind, body, and soul. 12:33 Located in the outskirts of Sacramento, 12:35 the NEWSTART Center is situated 12:37 on the beautiful campus 12:38 of Weimar Center of Health and Education 12:41 with scenic walking and hiking trails all around. 12:45 With a "whole plant foods eaten whole" motto, 12:48 the NEWSTART Center promotes a healthy plant-based diet 12:51 with an emphasis on natural foods. 12:54 The NEWSTART staff 12:55 are made up of California Board Certified nurses, 12:58 doctors, dietitians, and therapists 13:01 who work together to assist each patient personally. 13:05 The staff are dedicated to each patient's success 13:07 in the program 13:09 and are always there to guide, advise, and encourage. 13:12 In addition to a healthy lifestyle, 13:14 NEWSTART also promotes a healthy exercise routine. 13:17 You're both in sequence, that's good, all right. 13:20 As part of the balance program, 13:22 there is much opportunity 13:23 to get in the fair share of physical activity 13:26 from utilizing our fitness center 13:28 to taking a stroll 13:29 around the peaceful grounds of Weimar. 13:32 It's amazing 13:33 what a new start can do for you. 13:36 Welcome back, friends. In our studio, Dr. Gallant. 13:39 Ron, good to see you my friend. Good to see you too. 13:42 You know, we're going to be talking about the C word. 13:46 And, you know, I know that a lot of people 13:49 are afraid of cancer. 13:51 Yes. As they should be. 13:54 Is there a cure? 13:55 Is there somewhere we can go and get radiation 14:00 and this that and at the end all of a sudden it's gone. 14:03 Well, you know what, I say two things to you. 14:06 The old English saying it says an ounce of prevention 14:10 is worth a pound of cure. 14:12 So glad you said that. I think that goes a long way. 14:14 Right. 14:16 But here's what I would say to you about cancer. 14:19 One in every three people get cancer. 14:23 Wow! 14:24 And one in every six die from it. 14:28 Cancer is something that is growing and increasing. 14:33 And there's an article in Newsweek 14:35 from 1998 that says, 14:39 "What we know about cancer today," 1998, 14:43 "We could decrease the rate of cancer 14:45 if we would just change our lifestyle, 14:47 if we would be more on a plant-based diet." 14:50 Nineteen ninety eight. Nineteen ninety eight. 14:52 Cancer rates have not decreased in those last 18 years, 14:57 it continued to go up. 14:59 So we haven't implemented what we knew. 15:00 And they were looking at 4,500 research articles. 15:06 So I think there is a cure for cancer, 15:09 and I think it's by lifestyle, 15:12 I think if you have a large tumor, 15:14 you may need to debulk it, 15:16 but you can't treat cancer and continue to live your life 15:21 the way you did before you got cancer, 15:23 and hope that it's not going to come back. 15:25 How would you decrease the size of it? 15:28 I think you may have to do surgery, 15:29 that's what I mean by debulking. 15:31 If you've got a large enough tumor, 15:33 you may have to make it smaller, 15:36 but once you do that I believe by God's grace 15:38 there are some natural things 15:39 we can do to help boost your immunity 15:42 to prevent you from continuing to have cancer. 15:45 So what's the difference, 15:48 if you have a large tumor like this 15:51 and a small tumor like that? 15:54 It's a ratio type of thing. 15:57 Your immune system has a certain number of cells. 16:01 If you have a smaller space that you need to attack, 16:05 it's easier than if you have a larger space. 16:08 I got you. 16:09 And depending on the types of cancers, 16:11 cancers grow at different rates. 16:12 So some cancers may be growing more quickly than others. 16:15 If you disrupt that, 16:18 then that may give your immune system a chance 16:20 to catch up and do its job. 16:22 But you've got to put your body in the right condition for it 16:27 to be able to work with cancer and to overcome cancer. 16:32 Now would you say that what we do 16:35 at the NEWSTART program 16:37 is the best treatment 16:39 for people with cancer like Kath? 16:43 People ask me this all the time. 16:45 In fact, a few people 16:46 who I get their name from you ask me this. 16:49 Right. 16:50 Here's what I say, 16:52 we don't formally say 16:54 that we are a cancer treatment program, 16:57 but I will say this to people. 17:00 I believe with all my heart the things we are doing 17:04 puts your body in the best condition. 17:07 And if you put your body in the best condition, 17:09 your immune system is going to be optimized. 17:12 And that can help you to overcome cancer. 17:17 But you've got to do things differently 17:19 than you did before. 17:21 So you can't eat those pork ribs 17:23 and things like that? 17:27 Eighty percent of the cancers 17:28 that we see in this country today 17:31 can be prevented 17:33 by four simple lifestyle changes. 17:37 Okay, write this down, folks. Write this down. 17:40 Here they are. Here they are. 17:41 First one is a plant-based diet. 17:43 Plant-based, meaning anything that grows in the ground. 17:46 Correct. No animal products. 17:48 Right. Okay. 17:49 No animal products. No animal products. 17:51 Second one is no alcohol. No alcohol. 17:54 Not even a little glass of wine. 17:55 Not even a little bit. 17:56 Look at the Italians, 17:58 they drink wine and everything is fine. 17:59 I know. Not even a little bit. 18:01 The next one is no smoking. No smoking. 18:03 No smoking. 18:05 And the last one 18:07 which some people think to be too hard 18:10 is a normal body weight. 18:14 You mean, normal in what BMI and... 18:17 Normal for your size, 18:19 normal for your bone structure and your height. 18:23 And how would you determine that? 18:25 By bone structure and height. 18:27 How big your bones are what your frame is, 18:29 and how tall you are gives us a range of roughly 18:32 where you should be to be a normal body weight. 18:35 And I believe by God's grace, by changing your lifestyle, 18:38 by exercising, by doing things differently. 18:42 All of us, I repeat, 18:44 all of us can have a normal body weight. 18:48 And, you know, you've just given 18:49 a prescription for not only people 18:52 to avoid cancer, but most diseases. 18:55 That's right. 18:56 And, you know, our viewers need to hear that again, and again, 18:59 and again. 19:01 I think they do just about in every one of our programs 19:04 that if they're eating right, meaning plant-based, 19:08 whole foods eating whole, and eliminating animal product, 19:13 and cutting out the sugar in the pies, 19:16 and the ice cream, and all those kinds of things, 19:19 that will actually get healthier. 19:21 Yes. That's amazing to me. 19:23 It is. 19:25 Just it's contrary to everything 19:26 I was taught 19:28 because everybody needs milk, don't they? 19:31 You know that commercial. Yes. 19:34 Just irritates me and rings in my ears sometimes. 19:36 Yeah. 19:37 And the milk, what do you have to say about milk? 19:41 That's a whole another program, 19:44 but honestly milk suppresses our immunity. 19:49 Our immune system needs to be optimal. 19:52 We're talking about cow's milk. Talking about cow's milk. 19:55 But it applies to any other animal milk 19:58 because then people will say, "Oh, can I drink goat's milk? 20:01 Or can I drink something else?" Applies to any animal milk. 20:05 Give you a quick example, talking about cancer, 20:07 and we need to talk about Kath here, 20:09 but talking about cancer. 20:11 Women who have breast cancer have three times 20:15 more bovine leukemia virus 20:19 than women who don't have breast cancer. 20:20 Wow! 20:21 Bovine leukemia virus causes leukemia in the cows 20:24 and is found in their meat, and their milk, 20:27 and it causes disease in the animals. 20:30 Now we're starting to see it 20:31 has an impact in the role of cancer 20:33 in human beings. 20:35 Ouch! I didn't mean to bring up. 20:37 No, no, no. But let's talk about Kath. 20:39 You know, Kath... 20:40 We only have about another minute. 20:42 So I got to do it quick. Kath had breast cancer. 20:46 Had to have bilateral mastectomies, 20:49 and after the surgery she noticed 20:51 that she had two lumps on each side of her chest. 20:56 She shared that with us. Yeah. 20:59 Today, she told me that on the right side 21:02 those lumps have gone, 21:04 and on the left side they're getting smaller 21:07 so what have we done to help Kath. 21:09 Well, what we have done is this. 21:11 We've placed her on a plant-based diet. 21:13 We've increased her exercise. 21:15 We've changed her lifestyle, 21:16 and we've done some fever treatments for her. 21:19 Fever treatments are brutal. They can be brutal. 21:22 Absolutely. 21:24 And for our guests at home, 21:25 just so you understand what that means. 21:26 We put you in a hot bath and keep your head cool, 21:29 put a cool rag, and cool water on your head, 21:31 but we put you in a hot bath 21:33 and actually raise your body temperature 21:35 as if you have a fever. 21:38 And why do we get fevers when we get sick 21:41 because it helps our immune system 21:42 to fight what we're fighting. 21:45 And so by giving her a fever bath, 21:46 it's helping her immune system 21:48 to fight the cancer that she has. 21:52 Well, doc, we ran out of time. 21:55 I want to thank you again for coming. 21:57 It's always a pleasure to have you here. 21:59 Good to be with you, Ron. 22:00 And, friends, thank you, but don't go away 22:02 we have an important tip for you. 22:07 Four of our biggest diseases and our biggest killers 22:10 are the so-called lifestyle diseases, 22:12 obesity, heart disease, 22:14 high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. 22:17 For years doctors recognized 22:18 that these diseases share many risk factors 22:21 and even causes. 22:22 Some even began to suspect that these diseases were, 22:25 in fact, symptoms 22:26 of a larger problem or syndrome. 22:29 In 1988 Gerald Reaven a researcher 22:31 at Stanford University suggested 22:33 that these lifestyle diseases 22:35 were actually various manifestations 22:37 of what he called syndrome X. 22:39 He attributed everything to a root cause, 22:42 elevated blood insulin levels, and insulin resistance. 22:45 His theories have since been well studied 22:48 in medical literature. 22:49 Today syndrome X is known as metabolic syndrome. 22:54 Metabolic syndrome is actually a compilation of risk factors 22:57 that have an underlying denominator insulin resistance. 23:00 What is insulin resistance? 23:02 Insulin is typically used to get glucose 23:04 from the bloodstream into the tissues. 23:07 If someone has insulin resistance, 23:09 the pancreas has to work harder to actually get the glucose 23:14 into the tissues via the insulin. 23:16 As a result it cranks out higher 23:18 and higher levels of insulin to do the job. 23:21 The excess insulin, and the excess blood glucose 23:24 actually both wreak havoc in the body. 23:26 And the process is then termed as metabolic syndrome. 23:30 Five criteria for metabolic syndrome 23:32 include number one, 23:34 a fasting blood sugar greater than 99. 23:37 Number two, an HDL less than 40 in a male 23:41 or less than 50 in a female. 23:43 We're at number three, 23:45 a waist circumference greater than 40 inches 23:47 in a male or greater than 35 inches in a female. 23:51 Number four, triglycerides greater than 150 23:55 or taking medication to lower triglycerides. 23:59 Number five, a systolic blood pressure 24:01 greater than 130 24:03 or a diastolic blood pressure greater than 85. 24:06 What is significant about this is that most people 24:08 do not start medication are not told 24:10 that they have problems with hypertension, 24:12 until their blood pressure is greater than 140 over 90. 24:16 Criteria also include taking medications 24:18 for the blood pressure 24:20 even if your blood pressure is lower on the medication. 24:23 Although metabolic syndrome continues to spread, 24:25 we have the knowledge to stop it. 24:28 And it boils down to this, 24:29 too much input and not enough output. 24:32 More time at the table, 24:34 than time with your walking shoes on. 24:36 Not only the amount of food we're eating, 24:38 but the type of food 24:39 we're choosing to eat is harming us. 24:41 Along with reducing quantity, 24:43 we need to focus on the quality of our calories. 24:46 Additionally, we find that caloric restriction 24:49 significantly helps to reverse 24:52 this process of insulin resistance. 24:55 Oftentimes we'll think that caloric restriction 24:57 just means not eating a lot of food. 24:59 Caloric restriction simply means eating good food 25:03 that's not dense. 25:04 This means eating high fiber low fat foods 25:08 that are not significantly processed. 25:10 And processed, nutrient dense food, 25:12 low in fat and sugar, 25:14 but high in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber. 25:17 It doesn't have to be boring or tasteless. 25:20 Not only can these types of foods be delicious, 25:23 but they'll satisfy you longer, and you'll feel full sooner, 25:27 meaning, you'll eat less as a result. 25:30 Vegan and vegetarian diets have been shown 25:32 to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome 25:34 because they place a strong focus on plant foods. 25:38 In contrast research has repeatedly shown 25:41 that the consumption of animal products increases 25:43 the risk of many diseases, including metabolic syndrome. 25:47 Fruits, vegetables, 25:49 whole grains, legumes, and nuts, 25:51 they're the fuels 25:52 that our bodies were designed to use. 25:54 Is it any wonder that they all reduce 25:56 the risk of metabolic syndrome? 25:58 Besides the energy we put into our bodies, 26:00 we need to focus on our output. 26:02 You may have heard it a million times, 26:04 but exercise is good for you. 26:06 Besides burning off the extra calories, 26:09 exercise helps combat disease. 26:11 Metabolic syndrome can be reversed. 26:12 One of the most agreed upon interventions is exercise. 26:17 We know that a person 26:18 who exercises at least five days a week, 26:21 30 minutes, 26:22 and this is mainly cardiovascular exercise 26:25 not just weight lifting or resistance training 26:27 which is important will be able 26:30 to reverse the metabolic syndrome. 26:33 When we choose to exercise and live active lifestyles, 26:36 our bodies naturally become more responsive to insulin. 26:40 Exercise also helps us lose weight, 26:42 and these two things combined mean 26:44 that regular exercise is a very powerful 26:47 means of fighting metabolic syndrome. 26:50 If you have metabolic syndrome or at risk of developing it, 26:54 don't wait to start treating it, 26:56 the lifestyle changes 26:57 you make will have a tremendous benefit. 26:59 You'll feel better, be healthier, 27:02 and happier as a result. 27:04 I'm Rise Rafferty with Your Life and Health. 27:36 Well, friends, that's it for today, 27:38 but join us next week for another episode. 27:41 In the meantime, pick up the phone 27:43 and give us a call 27:44 at 800-525-9192. 27:49 Mention the NEWSTART Now program 27:52 and receive the NEWSTART special. |
