In our studio, CJ. 00:03:36.51\00:03:39.21 Nice to be here, Ron. Each and every step of the way. 00:11:21.71\00:11:23.91 Yes. 00:11:23.95\00:11:25.28 So who is your favorite, or what was your favorite thing 00:11:25.31\00:11:27.98 to do here on campus? 00:11:28.02\00:11:31.29 Me, I like lectures, you know, I like speakers. 00:11:31.32\00:11:36.46 And I like speakers that can tell a story 00:11:36.49\00:11:39.66 because a speaker that speaks in facts, 00:11:39.69\00:11:42.76 most people won't remember the facts, 00:11:42.80\00:11:44.83 but when they speak in stories with the facts in the stories, 00:11:44.87\00:11:48.04 people will remember the stories 00:11:48.07\00:11:49.44 and they remember the facts because they were in the story. 00:11:49.47\00:11:51.77 Amen, brother. 00:11:51.81\00:11:53.14 And you had such great talent in the front of the room 00:11:53.17\00:11:56.04 from Dr. Lukens to Dr. Gallant 00:11:56.08\00:11:58.55 to Steve to Richard 00:11:58.58\00:12:05.32 to everyone that got in there, they were prepared, 00:12:05.35\00:12:08.62 and I just enjoyed. 00:12:08.66\00:12:11.06 And I had notebook after notebook that I filled, 00:12:11.09\00:12:14.06 I had to buy a new notebook 00:12:14.10\00:12:16.63 to complete the process and everything, 00:12:16.67\00:12:19.17 so I have a wealth of information to take back, 00:12:19.20\00:12:22.70 I didn't want to miss a beat. 00:12:22.74\00:12:24.17 You're going to be a preacher, I can tell. 00:12:24.21\00:12:26.44 I want to thank you, CJ, for coming, 00:12:26.47\00:12:29.08 and we'll be talking to you in the near future. 00:12:29.11\00:12:31.61 Yes. 00:12:31.65\00:12:32.98 I, hopefully, you will see 00:12:33.01\00:12:34.35 some NEWSTART stuff happening in South Florida. 00:12:34.38\00:12:36.99 You bet. Seems like we just did this. 00:14:53.46\00:14:55.72 Yes, it does. Yes, it does. 00:14:55.76\00:14:57.63 You know, I want to talk about CJ, 00:14:57.66\00:15:02.16 he's such an incredible guy, 00:15:02.20\00:15:04.53 I felt a really good connection with him 00:15:04.57\00:15:07.54 when I first talked with him over the phone. 00:15:07.57\00:15:10.07 Yeah, he really is a great guy, very spiritual man, 00:15:10.11\00:15:15.24 interesting story, 00:15:15.28\00:15:16.61 just a little back story on him. 00:15:16.64\00:15:19.01 We moved here from North Carolina, 00:15:19.05\00:15:21.68 he grew up in the town that we moved from 00:15:21.72\00:15:25.65 when we came here. 00:15:25.69\00:15:27.02 Really? Yeah. 00:15:27.06\00:15:28.39 Oh, he's from North Carolina? 00:15:28.42\00:15:29.76 He's from North Carolina originally. 00:15:29.79\00:15:31.13 What town is that? 00:15:31.16\00:15:32.49 Elizabeth City, North Carolina, 00:15:32.53\00:15:33.86 up in the Northeast corner of North Carolina, 00:15:33.90\00:15:35.33 close to the outer banks. 00:15:35.36\00:15:36.70 Oh, okay. 00:15:36.73\00:15:38.07 So it was kind of neat just to make that connection, 00:15:38.10\00:15:41.90 and, you know, one of the things, 00:15:41.94\00:15:44.27 I really have to tell, I have appreciated CJ. 00:15:44.31\00:15:46.44 One of the things I appreciate about him, 00:15:46.47\00:15:48.58 he's not a complainer. 00:15:48.61\00:15:50.05 No. 00:15:50.08\00:15:51.41 That man has had some health challenges, 00:15:51.45\00:15:53.72 and, you know, you ask him, 00:15:53.75\00:15:55.08 and you almost have to pull it out of him 00:15:55.12\00:15:56.85 that it's hurting, or that he's having a hard time, 00:15:56.89\00:15:59.09 or, you know, he's just a... 00:15:59.12\00:16:00.89 He's been in constant pain. Yeah. 00:16:00.92\00:16:03.32 You know what I love about him, what a voice. 00:16:03.36\00:16:05.73 Oh, yeah. 00:16:05.76\00:16:07.10 We got to teach this guy to sing. 00:16:07.13\00:16:08.46 Yeah. He's got a natural voice. 00:16:08.50\00:16:11.03 Yeah, he does. 00:16:11.07\00:16:12.40 You know, I also love the fact that he could feel his feet 00:16:12.43\00:16:15.64 a little bit differently, 00:16:15.67\00:16:17.37 but tell us about this neuropathy. 00:16:17.41\00:16:19.77 I know there's viewers out there 00:16:19.81\00:16:22.14 that are suffering with this same terrible thing. 00:16:22.18\00:16:25.61 Yeah. What about that? 00:16:25.65\00:16:27.72 You know, the nerves start to get damaged 00:16:27.75\00:16:31.52 when our blood sugar is out of control, 00:16:31.55\00:16:34.72 when we don't have good circulation, 00:16:34.76\00:16:37.56 and so two of the things that we start working on 00:16:37.59\00:16:40.96 when people come to Weimar, almost immediately 00:16:41.00\00:16:43.93 is helping to control your blood sugar 00:16:43.97\00:16:46.20 and helping to improve your circulation. 00:16:46.23\00:16:48.77 We do that one of two ways. 00:16:48.80\00:16:50.41 The first way is, we have people drink water. 00:16:50.44\00:16:53.58 Most people don't drink enough water. 00:16:53.61\00:16:56.14 I know, before I knew about it, I was chronically dehydrated. 00:16:56.18\00:17:00.18 I'd go to work and work a 12-hour shift 00:17:00.22\00:17:02.22 and maybe only go to the bathroom once or twice. 00:17:02.25\00:17:04.22 And you didn't know it? Didn't know it. 00:17:04.25\00:17:06.69 But knowing how I feel now and comparing it 00:17:06.72\00:17:09.06 to how I felt then, it's night and day. 00:17:09.09\00:17:11.56 So drinking water is the first thing 00:17:11.59\00:17:13.40 that kind of thin your blood and improve your circulation. 00:17:13.43\00:17:16.10 Well, how much water should you drink? 00:17:16.13\00:17:17.80 Well, that's a great question. 00:17:17.83\00:17:19.60 What I tell the guests is, 00:17:19.63\00:17:21.34 I don't like to give them numbers 00:17:21.37\00:17:22.70 'cause when I give them a number, 00:17:22.74\00:17:24.07 people get fixated on the number. 00:17:24.11\00:17:26.41 So what I tell them is I give them a principle. 00:17:26.44\00:17:29.41 When we've got enough water in our bodies, 00:17:29.44\00:17:32.28 our body will use what it needs 00:17:32.31\00:17:33.82 and spill the rest in our urine. 00:17:33.85\00:17:36.18 And the sign that that is happening 00:17:36.22\00:17:38.12 is our urine is pale to clear. 00:17:38.15\00:17:40.49 So what I tell guests is in between meals 00:17:40.52\00:17:43.02 you should drink enough water 00:17:43.06\00:17:44.99 that your urine is pale to clear. 00:17:45.03\00:17:47.10 But if you're taking vitamins, that may not happen. 00:17:47.13\00:17:49.40 That's true, those vitamins will make it yellow 00:17:49.43\00:17:51.63 for a long time. 00:17:51.67\00:17:53.80 So that's again... 00:17:53.84\00:17:55.20 Well, that's a good way of viewing it. 00:17:55.24\00:17:58.71 Is that the only thing you need to watch, I mean... 00:17:58.74\00:18:01.41 No, the other thing that we have them do is 00:18:01.44\00:18:03.24 we have them increase their exercise. 00:18:03.28\00:18:06.31 And that's something that CJ told me. 00:18:06.35\00:18:08.25 He said that when he came here, 00:18:08.28\00:18:10.45 it took him about 20 minutes to walk from his car 00:18:10.49\00:18:15.76 into his building where he works. 00:18:15.79\00:18:17.99 Wow. 00:18:18.03\00:18:19.36 And the distance is only about the distance of going 00:18:19.39\00:18:23.00 from the lodge to the NEWSTART clinic, 00:18:23.03\00:18:26.43 for what you would understand that it to be... 00:18:26.47\00:18:28.04 Fifty yards, maximum. Yeah, maybe 50 or 60 yards. 00:18:28.07\00:18:30.54 Yeah. Wow. 00:18:30.57\00:18:31.91 Exactly. And it would take him 20 minutes plus. 00:18:31.94\00:18:33.81 Because of the pain. 00:18:33.84\00:18:35.18 Because of pain, he'd have to stop. 00:18:35.21\00:18:36.91 So he describes to me today that 00:18:36.95\00:18:42.38 rather than painful, it feels like maybe as sunburn. 00:18:42.42\00:18:46.59 What does that mean, I mean... 00:18:46.62\00:18:48.19 Well, that's actually a good thing. 00:18:48.22\00:18:51.09 People might not think of that 00:18:51.13\00:18:52.46 but that's actually a good thing. 00:18:52.49\00:18:53.83 What that means 00:18:53.86\00:18:55.20 is the nerves are feeling sensations differently. 00:18:55.23\00:19:01.44 We told him this that if he starts getting more pain, 00:19:01.47\00:19:04.51 that's actually a good thing 00:19:04.54\00:19:05.97 because it means his nerves are starting to... 00:19:06.01\00:19:07.78 He's getting feeling back. 00:19:07.81\00:19:09.14 Yeah, yeah. Oh, wow. 00:19:09.18\00:19:10.78 So his numbers are not where he wants them to be, 00:19:10.81\00:19:14.48 and I keep reminding him it's been 18 days, 00:19:14.52\00:19:17.05 but we're seeing improvement. 00:19:17.09\00:19:18.42 And I believe by God's grace they'll continue to improve, 00:19:18.45\00:19:21.09 but he's now starting to see that he's having 00:19:21.12\00:19:23.86 not as much trouble with his feet. 00:19:23.89\00:19:26.26 He was doing contrast baths, 00:19:26.29\00:19:29.50 he was doing charcoal poultices on his feet. 00:19:29.53\00:19:32.77 Really? And all of that helps. 00:19:32.80\00:19:34.90 But he's finding that he's not having to do 00:19:34.94\00:19:37.07 as much of that 00:19:37.11\00:19:38.44 because he's not having as much problems. 00:19:38.47\00:19:40.08 In fact, one night, he told me he slept through the night 00:19:40.11\00:19:42.88 without having any symptoms. 00:19:42.91\00:19:46.31 He told us he had, first time, 00:19:46.35\00:19:48.22 he can put a blanket on his feet. 00:19:48.25\00:19:50.09 Yeah. I never knew that. 00:19:50.12\00:19:52.05 Yeah, praise the Lord. Oh, my! 00:19:52.09\00:19:55.16 Terrible disease. Yeah, yeah, it is, it is. 00:19:55.19\00:19:57.43 But you know something, 00:19:57.46\00:19:58.79 he never complains, so I just... 00:19:58.83\00:20:00.16 Is there a way someone who's watching this now 00:20:00.20\00:20:02.46 could do this at home? 00:20:02.50\00:20:04.83 Yes, there are ways to do this at home, 00:20:04.87\00:20:06.80 but again, you have to be careful. 00:20:06.84\00:20:08.27 I really like seeing it done under medical supervision. 00:20:08.30\00:20:12.57 But doing a little bit of increased walking, 00:20:12.61\00:20:15.44 a little more exercise 00:20:15.48\00:20:16.81 will help to improve circulation. 00:20:16.85\00:20:19.51 We use contrast baths, hot and cold baths, 00:20:19.55\00:20:22.38 but you really need to make sure 00:20:22.42\00:20:23.75 that the temperature is not too hot 00:20:23.79\00:20:25.45 because if you have neuropathy, you could burn your feet... 00:20:25.49\00:20:29.39 And not realize it, 00:20:29.42\00:20:30.76 so it's good to have someone help you 00:20:30.79\00:20:32.63 who doesn't have the neuropathy 00:20:32.66\00:20:34.96 and just test the water and make sure it's not too hot. 00:20:35.00\00:20:37.60 Now what about... 00:20:37.63\00:20:39.90 You mentioned that, doctor, what about food? 00:20:39.93\00:20:42.90 Food plays a big role in this as well 00:20:42.94\00:20:44.87 because as he has changed his lifestyle 00:20:44.91\00:20:47.28 and gone on plant-based diet, 00:20:47.31\00:20:49.54 he is controlling the glycemic index 00:20:49.58\00:20:53.52 in his food a little bit more, 00:20:53.55\00:20:55.15 so it's not as likely to make his blood sugars go up. 00:20:55.18\00:20:57.72 Ah, got it. 00:20:57.75\00:20:59.09 Now even though his numbers are not where he wants them, 00:20:59.12\00:21:01.32 we're still starting to see some progress. 00:21:01.36\00:21:04.23 And so I praise God for that. 00:21:04.26\00:21:06.80 You know, actually I just... 00:21:06.83\00:21:08.16 I shared this with CJ in the class 00:21:08.20\00:21:09.83 just the other day, 00:21:09.86\00:21:11.20 Dr. Crane, who used to be here at Weimar, 00:21:11.23\00:21:14.24 they had, they did some published research, 00:21:14.27\00:21:16.87 and they had 21 patients 00:21:16.91\00:21:18.34 who had this very bad painful neuropathy. 00:21:18.37\00:21:21.21 And in 18 days, 00:21:21.24\00:21:22.61 17 of them had relief from their neuropathy. 00:21:22.64\00:21:26.65 Just by changing their lifestyle, 00:21:26.68\00:21:28.15 eating a plant-based diet, doing more exercise, 00:21:28.18\00:21:31.25 drinking more water, changing things. 00:21:31.29\00:21:35.99 So for the average person at home 00:21:36.02\00:21:39.46 to be able to do this, 00:21:39.49\00:21:41.56 that's a lot that you just mentioned, 00:21:41.60\00:21:43.97 they really need to go to a lifestyle center 00:21:44.00\00:21:46.27 like NEWSTART. 00:21:46.30\00:21:47.77 Or Black Hills or number of them across the country. 00:21:47.80\00:21:52.27 But I can't sanction them 'cause I've never been to them, 00:21:52.31\00:21:55.64 I've been here, and I work here, and of course, 00:21:55.68\00:21:57.78 I want people to come here. 00:21:57.81\00:21:59.98 'Cause I know they're going to get well. 00:22:00.02\00:22:01.62 They have supervision by board-certified physicians, 00:22:01.65\00:22:05.52 otherwise known in the world as MDs or doctors, 00:22:05.55\00:22:08.76 and they're able to monitor and guide 00:22:08.79\00:22:11.96 through blood draws and testing, 00:22:11.99\00:22:15.06 they're non-invasive as I understand it. 00:22:15.10\00:22:18.70 That's right. And people have a great time. 00:22:18.73\00:22:22.10 I've never heard an unkind word. 00:22:22.14\00:22:24.17 That's true. 00:22:24.21\00:22:25.54 You know, occasionally has someone who leaves 00:22:25.57\00:22:27.41 because they're not happy or whatever but that's rare. 00:22:27.44\00:22:31.51 It is, it is. 00:22:31.55\00:22:33.01 So what conclusion can we make with CJ? 00:22:33.05\00:22:36.99 Well, CJ is on the road to recovery. 00:22:37.02\00:22:41.12 He's not at the end of the road, 00:22:41.16\00:22:43.36 but he's on the road. 00:22:43.39\00:22:45.03 And he says that he is walking now 00:22:45.06\00:22:48.26 more than he has walked 00:22:48.30\00:22:50.23 probably in the last several years. 00:22:50.27\00:22:52.53 Yeah, so he is very pleased about that. 00:22:52.57\00:22:56.20 And I am just, yeah, 00:22:56.24\00:22:57.97 praising God that he's received the blessings 00:22:58.01\00:23:01.31 he already has and I think there are more to come. 00:23:01.34\00:23:03.75 I love that guy. Yes, I do too. 00:23:03.78\00:23:05.78 He is lovable. He is. 00:23:05.81\00:23:07.28 Absolutely, absolutely.
