00:12 there are over one million deaths 00:13 because of Type 2 diabetes and chronic obesity. 00:16 This includes heart attacks and strokes. 00:19 That's 6.5, 747s crashing everyday. 00:22 What's even more surprising is that the fix is easy. 00:25 It's your lifestyle. 00:27 Wouldn't it be nice if you could actually add 00:29 quality years to your life rather than dying 00:31 one organ at a time? 00:33 Obesity and diabetes are the cause 00:35 of over million deaths per year. 00:37 Most diseases are reversible 00:39 because most diseases are life style diseases, 00:42 especially Type 2 diabetes and chronic obesity. 00:46 Seriously now, they can be reversed 00:48 and the quality of your life can be renewed. 00:52 Call NEWSTART today at 1-800-525-9192. 00:58 You will see dramatic changes 00:59 in the first few days of our program, 01:01 and you will be on the road to a better 01:03 more robust quality of your life. 01:06 The NEWSTART programs are simple and effective. 01:12 Hi, friends, and welcome to another edition 01:14 of NEWSTART Now. 01:16 I'm your host, Ron Giannoni. 01:18 In our studios, Hildi Baseful, 01:22 from Salem, Oregon. 01:24 Let's take a look when Hildi first arrived. 01:29 I came to the NEWSTART program 01:32 five years ago and had an amazing turnaround. 01:35 I came here in my mid 60's. 01:38 After 18 days, my memory was so much better, 01:41 my vitality, my smile was back. 01:44 I wasn't thinking about getting old, 01:46 I was thinking about 01:48 how am I going to cook the next meal. 01:49 I'm here now for my husband 01:52 who has some health issues that he's been, 01:55 that are being worked on. 01:57 I am also here because I'm 71.5 now 02:01 and I'm dragging again. 02:03 And I've been so busy the last year 02:05 with health, and moving, and so forth, 02:07 I haven't been walking 02:09 and I haven't had the encouragement to do so, 02:12 and it's kind of like a downhill slide. 02:15 I eat fast food because I'm tired, 02:17 I drink tea, and I drink Pepsi because I need the sugar-high 02:23 so my mind is clear enough to do the taxes 02:25 or to figure out all the bills. 02:27 I'm here to reclaim, with the Lord's help, 02:30 with Jesus' help, the health that He wants me to have 02:34 and the health that I want to embrace 02:36 so I can be about His business. 02:42 Welcome back friends, and as I promised, 02:44 Hildi, how are you, dear? 02:46 Very good, thank you. It is good to see you. 02:48 Thank you, it's good to be here. 02:50 Yes, and I want to begin by letting our viewers know 02:55 that you are not necessarily a full-medical participant, 03:00 but more in support of someone you're with. 03:05 That's right. 03:07 About five years ago, I came as my own 03:09 18-day NEWSTART participant and it changed me so much. 03:14 I brought the message home 03:16 and it's taken five years for my husband to... 03:18 Five years. 03:20 But he's is a busy man. Yes. 03:23 And the time was just right to come. 03:25 So I've been here as a partner with him, 03:28 partaking of all the lectures, and the benefits, 03:31 and of course, the wonderful food, 03:32 and the schools and so forth, 03:34 but I have not been a full participant 03:38 with all the doctor's visits. 03:39 I have had a doctor visit though. 03:41 You have, yes... Yes. 03:43 You visited with Dr. Gallant. That's right. 03:45 And we'll be interviewing him next, 03:48 but let me ask you a question. 03:49 Yes. 03:51 As a non-medical participant, 03:55 do you notice any change in you, in particular? 03:58 Oh, my goodness, yes. 04:01 Well, tell us about it. 04:03 I'm sure you will. Yeah. 04:05 Just being part of marvelous Weimar 04:10 for 18 days is a gift. 04:12 Just being here, and having so many people praying for you, 04:17 money cannot buy that. 04:19 No, you can't. 04:20 And you just come, well, I just came here and my husband 04:23 and we have just felt lifted up in prayer. 04:26 And then every lecture which we're, 04:29 every health message was given so clearly 04:32 and so perfectly, really, 04:36 and everything is backed with science. 04:38 It's not like old wives' tales or say-so. 04:41 Everything is very scientific and... 04:43 No voodoo? 04:44 No, there is a registered nurse 04:46 and my husband is a family practice doctor. 04:49 We came, you know, to hear facts. 04:51 Yes. And we have found facts. 04:53 So there's no way we're gonna pull the wall 04:55 over anybody's eyes. 04:57 Well, you know, it's that simple. 04:59 When Naaman was told to go dunk in the Jordan seven times 05:03 because he had leprosy, he thought that was too easy. 05:07 When the doctors here say eat full plants, eat in whole, 05:12 and drink lots of water, and exercise, 05:15 and eat high-nutritious food with low calorie, guess what? 05:20 It really works. 05:22 So how did you notice, in your own body, 05:25 how things worked on you? 05:27 How did you, do you experience any change? 05:30 Well, I came here after a very stressful year. 05:33 And so just the rest and the kind people, 05:37 everyone is immensely kind 05:40 because they all love Jesus, really. 05:42 You know, so it's like living in a taste of heaven. 05:46 Living in this kingdom, it's just amazing, 05:49 so just that was a balm to my soul. 05:53 And the trails here are so easy. 05:56 I mean, there's the real easy, and then the half mile, 05:58 and then going up into the woods 06:00 in the water towers. 06:01 So I came here walking, may be about 06:04 half-a-mile at a time, 06:06 and now I'm up to four miles at a time. 06:08 And so in 18 day... 06:10 Per day or at a time? Per day. 06:11 Oh, yeah, well, 06:13 I could probably go two and a half miles at a time, 06:15 and then I come and rest. 06:17 And I go back out again 06:18 or I just catch half a mile in between a lecture and say, 06:23 a spa treatment or something like that. 06:25 Did you notice any weight loss? 06:28 Oh, yes, I've lost, you know, some would say, 06:31 you've only lost four or five pounds, 06:32 but I'll tell you, my muscles have grown 06:35 a lot in my legs and I have lost inches. 06:39 So I know from before, when I have been here 06:41 before that this program, exercise, 06:45 and nutritious food really works. 06:49 It just peels it off, but it's a natural, 06:51 it's not a bounce-off and bounce-back-on. 06:56 It's not really, when I walk I don't really go, 06:59 "Why, I've walked five miles." 07:00 No, I walk an hour everyday at least. 07:03 Wow, that's great. 07:04 You know, with my weight, I don't really go, 07:07 oh, this or that. 07:08 I'm going, I'm eating the right food, 07:11 I'm trying to glorify the Lord, and give thanks 07:14 for this temple of the Holy Spirit 07:16 that the Lord has given me. 07:18 I'd like to say, I'm 71.5 years old, 07:23 and I'm really thankful that I'm still alive, 07:25 longevity is not in my family, so I'm thankful for that. 07:29 And when I started comparing birthdates 07:32 with other people in the program, 07:33 there are 18 of us now. 07:35 Like six or seven of us are 70 or 71 years old. 07:39 And we just kind of looked at each other 07:41 and there was the whole scale of this, 07:43 one fellow who is extremely buff at 73 07:46 and some who are really suffering 07:48 but we all saw that together, 07:51 all four or five of us are swimming up hill 07:53 or swimming upstream together in this program, 07:55 we've all improved. 07:57 And we all see what 70, 71 can look like. 08:01 You know, it's not as the world sees 08:04 but as we see as the Lord works in us, 08:07 and as cooperate with the Lord's health plan for us. 08:11 Well said. 08:12 I couldn't have said it better myself. 08:15 That was wonderful, thank you. Thank you. 08:17 You know, when you go home, you, of course, 08:21 will be with your husband and seeing to it 08:25 that he sticks with the program 08:27 and let's just talk about him for a minute, 08:29 'cause this interview is basically about you. 08:31 Sure. How's he doing? 08:35 Ah, he is enjoying the food. Good. 08:39 And he has lost, I think, 16 pounds. 08:42 He does have some weight. 08:43 He has some skeletal nervous system issues. 08:47 Yeah. 08:49 So outside of a miracle, it's not going to be like 08:53 there's diabetics who gets offered their insulin, 08:55 and so forth. 08:57 He's, outside of a miracle, he is not going to jump up 09:00 and be okay. 09:01 But, like, he can walk 09:05 half a mile, a quarter mile, 09:09 and then do that a couple of time a day. 09:11 And that is an improvement for him. 09:12 Good, good. 09:14 And as the food is going to decrease inflammation 09:16 in his body, which it naturally does, 09:19 and also maximizes health on the cellular level. 09:23 We're trusting that working with the Lord, 09:27 cooperating with the healing 09:28 that is given to us in our bodies, 09:31 that he will walk out of this difficulty 09:34 to maximizing what he has. 09:38 Now, I have to ask this. 09:39 Did you know all this prior to your first arrival here, 09:45 the NEWSTART program? 09:46 Or you just learned it now, 09:48 or is it part of your credential as a nurse, 09:51 your knowledge, etc., about foods. 09:54 Well, I was fortunate enough to go 09:55 to Loma Linda Nursing School 40 years ago, 09:58 so I have the Adventist based health message. 10:01 And I have appreciated it, but I haven't attired to it, 10:05 but basically I've been eating healthy. 10:08 And after my first 18 days at NEWSTART, 10:12 I went back, and everything, I mean, I was 65 then 10:15 and my memory was going like "oh! I don't wanna do this." 10:18 And golly, it was a real turnaround, 10:22 real turnaround, so I did come here. 10:25 I already have a vitamix, 10:27 and I have the tools in my kitchen, 10:28 and I have the jars of nuts and everything, 10:30 but we are going to go back. 10:32 You know, sometimes you have a year in your life 10:35 that's very stressful. 10:37 And the last year has been extremely stressful 10:39 and I didn't have time to cook. 10:41 But now, the stress is over, 10:42 and we are just reborn again into the message, 10:45 and we are going to embrace it. 10:47 Because I wanna keep the clarity of the mind 10:50 that has been given to me in these last 18 days 10:54 through exercise, water, nutrition. 10:57 Hildi, we are out of time, I've gotta cut you off. 11:01 And I wanna thank you so much for taking your time, 11:04 and friends don't go away, Dr. Gallant is up next. 11:11 When we look at the health status 11:12 of Americans today, 11:14 it's alarming to see that 60% are either overweight 11:18 or obese. 11:24 In addition, diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, 11:27 cancer, and heart disorders are the leading cause 11:29 of so many complications and deaths every year. 11:36 Could it have something to do with what we eat? 11:39 After all, every one in four Americans 11:42 visit a fast food restaurant daily 11:44 and with such easy access to quick-fix foods, 11:47 we tend to forget the poor health value 11:50 those foods actually offer. 11:52 Maybe it's the sedentary lifestyle 11:54 and lack of exercise that we have become 11:56 so accustomed to as immediate dependant world. 12:00 Whatever the cause of these diseases, 12:02 a solution has arrived. 12:06 The NEWSTART lifestyle center offers an enriching program 12:09 where patients can get a healing 12:11 of mind, body, and soul. 12:13 Located in the outskirts of Sacramento, 12:16 the NEWSTART center is situated on the beautiful campus 12:19 of Weimar Center of Health And Education 12:22 with scenic walking and hiking trails all around. 12:25 With the whole plant foods eaten whole, Mono, 12:29 the NEWSTART center promotes a healthy plant-based diet 12:32 with an emphasis on natural foods. 12:34 The NEWSTART staff are made up of 12:36 California board certified nurses, doctors, 12:40 dieticians, and therapist who work together 12:43 to assist each patient personally. 12:45 The staff are dedicated to each patient's success 12:48 in the program and are always there 12:50 to guide, advice, and encourage. 12:53 In addition to a healthy lifestyle, 12:55 NEWSTART also promotes a healthy exercise routine. 12:58 You're both in sequence, that's good, all right. 13:01 As part of the balanced program, 13:02 there is much opportunity to getting a fair share 13:05 of physical activity from utilizing 13:07 our fitness center to taking a stroll 13:10 around the peaceful grounds of Weimar. 13:12 It's amazing what a NEWSTART can do for you. 13:16 Welcome back, friends. In the house, Dr. Gallant. 13:20 Ron, good to see you. 13:21 It's good to see you 13:22 and it's good to be seen by the way. 13:24 Amen, amen, praise the Lord. 13:26 I want to talk about Hildi. 13:28 She seemed very, to me, you know, 13:31 full of energy and excited and, you know, 13:34 she's supporting her husband. 13:37 As you know is also a fellow doctor. 13:39 That's right, that's right. 13:41 And he's had some problems with his neck, in the back, 13:45 but she's also lost some weight. 13:49 Yes. 13:50 As a non-medical companion. Yes. 13:52 And let me describe what that means, just briefly. 13:55 Non-medical companion usually means 13:58 that someone's here in the program 14:01 with another person who needs to see the doctor, 14:05 who has a series of ailments or diseases or medications 14:11 that they want to change, 14:13 so the non-medical companion is here to support them. 14:16 Absolutely. 14:17 She is here to support her husband. 14:18 She is, she is a wonderful person, 14:20 full of energy like you said. 14:22 And you know, she's been here before. 14:25 Four years ago... Yes. 14:27 Or five years ago. 14:28 Four or five, she came without her husband 14:31 at that point. 14:32 And now, has comeback with him, and she's done quiet well. 14:36 She's had a good experience, she's lost some weight, 14:40 we checked some numbers, things look pretty good. 14:43 And she was able to find tune things a little bit 14:45 because the program has changed a little bit 14:48 from four or five years ago. 14:50 Yes, it has. 14:51 I don't want our guests out there and people 14:53 just listening to program to think that 14:56 we are just doing the same old thing. 14:58 We've changed a few things, and I think I'd like to believe 15:02 we've made some improvements. 15:03 I think so. 15:04 And I remember Dr. Nedley asking me, 15:07 "Do you think we can make some changes in the program." 15:09 And I was like, "Of course, 15:11 we can always better the program." 15:12 Absolutely. 15:13 You know, how to is up to you guys, the doctors, 15:17 the people who really run this place. 15:20 Nonetheless, I like to talk a little bit 15:23 about HealthEast hospital. 15:24 Yes. 15:26 And I know we didn't interview him 15:29 for whatever reason, I don't even recall, 15:31 but nonetheless, how is he faring through all this? 15:35 Randy's doing quiet well. 15:36 He came here with a lot of muscle weakness 15:41 in his extremities, upper and lower extremities, 15:44 had a hard time walking, standing, 15:47 but couldn't do very much. 15:48 Why is that, I mean? 15:52 He actually had a neck surgery a year ago, today. 15:55 Okay. 15:56 And ever since then he's had sort of these 15:59 these neuromuscular issues and we're, 16:03 I don't think they've exactly labeled it. 16:06 But what we have found is that by changing his lifestyle 16:10 he actually was able to achieve, 16:13 in 18 days, some improvement. 16:17 He tells me that he is walking farther 16:20 than he has walked before for the last year, 16:24 and he had lost a lot of muscle tone. 16:28 And he was actually wearing shorts 16:30 when he came to see me today, and he showed me his calves, 16:32 and he said, "I'm starting to get some definition 16:36 to my muscles again." 16:37 Yeah, which he is excited about. 16:39 That is exciting. I had that same experience. 16:43 I've always had these real skinny legs, 16:46 I still do, but they have a little muscle on them now 16:49 and they are never used to. 16:50 Praise the Lord, that's beautiful. 16:51 And so he is really done some great gains. 16:55 You know, what I like about the non medicals, 16:58 the husband and wife, as my wife came with me, 17:02 I couldn't imagine for a minute how I was gonna go back home 17:06 after 18 days and share with my wife 17:09 what I learned here. 17:10 Yeah, yeah. That's an impossibility. 17:12 It's... it's... it's tough, it really is. 17:14 It is a blessing to come together 17:16 as a couple to learn the information together. 17:21 And then to not only be on the same page, 17:24 but be there to support each other 17:26 as you go back home and transition 17:28 all this information to home habits. 17:32 Absolutely. 17:33 And that's what I tell our guests, is that 17:34 we need to develop habits while they are here 17:37 that they can take home with them 17:39 to be able to continue this at home. 17:41 But Randy has done very well, he's lost about 18 pounds. 17:45 Oh, wow! And he is... 17:47 He is a pretty big guy though. 17:49 He is a big guy to begin with, absolutely, and he has, 17:53 he's just feeling excited about 17:55 how things have transitioned while he's here. 17:58 Does he really get it? 17:59 I mean, I know he is a doctor 18:01 and he should already have known it, 18:03 but some where along the line, may be he just didn't do 18:08 what he thought he should be doing. 18:10 How does that work? I think he really does get it. 18:13 He, you know in lectures, 18:16 he was listening and paying attention 18:18 and he would understand what, the points 18:23 that we were trying to get across, 18:24 and he is committed. 18:26 He is committed to continuing this life style. 18:29 He started to see the benefits of making these changes. 18:34 And I just pray that by the grace of God 18:37 he will continue to see those as he continues this at home. 18:41 Absolutely, I think that is so important. 18:46 Well, not just important, if you wanna live, 18:50 you learn what you learn here and then take it home with you. 18:54 As I pray every day that I stick to it. 18:58 It's been 11 years for me, this August. 19:00 Wow, Praise the Lord. Man, I'm just so grateful. 19:03 Yes, and about a hundred pounds lesser 19:07 than my heaviest weight ever. 19:09 All though, from when I came here 19:10 to the NEWSTART program, maybe, like 75 or so, 80. 19:15 That's still great. 19:16 But, you know, it's by the grace of God 19:19 that I was able to stick to it but without my wife, 19:23 I don't know that I've ever would have been 19:25 able to stick to it. 19:27 It would have been so easy, "Oh, there's a McDonalds, 19:30 why don't I just get a burger on the way." 19:32 Yeah. No, absolutely, it's very important. 19:36 When we changed our lifestyle, I had my wife, 19:39 but I also had younger children, 19:41 and we had to do it all as a family. 19:44 And I think that incorporation of including 19:47 as many people in the household 19:49 as you can in making lifestyle change. 19:52 It's crucial to continuity because one of the things, 19:57 I'll just share this real brief, 19:58 and one of the things that I learned 20:00 and started to teach people as I started to teach 20:02 was we need to read labels and pay attention to them. 20:07 And if there's things on the label 20:09 that we don't know what they are 20:11 or we can't pronounce them, we probably shouldn't eat. 20:16 So when we did this, our kids were young, 20:20 and one of our younger children was able to read labels, 20:24 about eight years old, was able to read labels, 20:26 and was able to remind us, "Hey, 20:29 this is probably something we shouldn't eat." 20:31 Because if they didn't understand 20:33 what it was, then, you know, may be its not good for us. 20:37 Yeah, you know, I heard Dr. Lukens in my, a year ago, 20:42 and plant-based, whole plant foods eaten whole. 20:47 Whole plant based food eaten... 20:49 And you know he's right. Yeah. 20:51 'Cause if it's in a can or in a box, 20:54 it's been processed. 20:55 That's right. And we shouldn't eat it. 20:56 That's right. 20:59 You know, I want to thank you 'cause I know 21:00 you are a busy guy. 21:02 Dr. Gallant not only has a full-time job 21:05 at the NEWSTART program. 21:07 He is an ER doctor, 21:09 and sometimes he is working 24, 36 hours, 21:13 may be I shouldn't even say that, but lot of hours. 21:16 And I'm so grateful that you are here. 21:18 Well, thank you. I'm glad to be here. 21:21 As you say, it's good to be seen. 21:22 Yes. 21:23 I know brought a good change to our NEWSTART program. 21:26 Well, praise the Lord. And I'm here to thank you. 21:30 Praise the Lord. Thank you, Ron. 21:31 And God bless. God bless you too. 21:33 We'll see you next time. Okay. 21:34 You too, friends, but don't go away, 21:36 we have a tip for you. 22:11 Welcome to the NEWSTART Kitchen. 22:13 We are going to be making an Avocado-Mousse Carob Pie. 22:17 And believe it or not, 22:18 these avocados are going to be totally disguised, 22:21 and you won't even notice that. 22:22 So let's talk about the recipe. 22:24 Avocadoes, very good source of fat, 22:27 and we know that avocadoes are important 22:31 for our diets especially, nursing mothers 22:34 and expecting mothers. 22:37 We have some medjool dates that are pitted. 22:40 Raw carob powder, very important that it's raw 22:43 as opposed to toasted. 22:44 You could use toasted but the raw carob powder 22:46 is gonna make it very smooth, 22:48 toasted is gonna give it more of an edge to it, 22:51 almost like a coffee like edge, but it's okay, 22:54 depends on your preference. 22:55 Maple syrup, and some water. 22:57 So let's get started. 22:59 We are going to add our avocadoes to our recipe. 23:03 And again, avocadoes are really good source of fat. 23:06 When you pit an avocado, 23:08 you never want to take the avocado 23:10 and just use the knife in your hand, 23:12 that's very dangerous. 23:13 Put it down on a cutting board, give it a tap, give it a spin, 23:18 and put the avocado like so, 23:20 you can cut right through the skin, and peel it, 23:23 and it's very simple to use that way. 23:26 We need about 1.5 cups of avocado, 23:31 so that's about 1.5 avocadoes depending on the size. 23:34 We'll be adding our pitted dates, and again, 23:36 I like to use the whole dates. 23:38 I pit them myself because sometimes, 23:41 you can get mould in here and it's not something 23:43 that you definitely wanna use in your recipes. 23:45 So I don't like buying, you know, 23:48 dates that have been chopped up, 23:49 so I like to buy them just whole dates. 23:52 Always inspect before you put them in 23:55 to your food processor or your blender. 23:59 Okay, and medjool dates 24:03 are a very good source of fiber. 24:05 We are going to add a little bit of an element 24:06 of a caramel, 24:08 and this will be for our sweetness. 24:10 What we are going to do is we are going to add 24:11 our raw carob powder. 24:15 And maple syrup, I love grade B maple syrup 24:20 because grade B has more of a maple flavor. 24:22 If you use grade A, it's still the same 24:24 in terms of nutritional and minerals, 24:26 it's just gonna have a lighter flavor. 24:28 So grade B is gonna give us a little bit more 24:29 of a deep maple flavor. 24:32 And then our water, 24:33 you can always add more water to, 24:34 depending on what you want to, you know, 24:36 the consistency that you want. 24:38 And what we'll do is we will blend this up 24:39 till everything as nice and creamy, 24:41 then we'll put it into our pie crust 24:44 which we have referenced on our website, 24:46 and it will be that simple. 25:34 And there we have it, our beautiful carob's filling. 25:39 And this is lovely by itself, 25:41 you could make this into pudding, 25:42 you can use it as a mousse, I even use this as a frosting. 25:46 So I want you to get some ideas 25:47 of how versatile this is. 25:50 I'm just going to simply just 25:51 pour it into my pie crust. 25:57 That's very thick 25:59 and it will set up in the refrigerator. 26:02 I would put it in for about two to four hours 26:04 until it's totally firm, 26:09 and you won't even notice that there is avocado in here. 26:13 And a lot of people might be telling, 26:14 "You know, not really into that, 26:16 in terms of avocado in my desert," 26:18 but avocado is actually a fruit 26:21 and it's a great source 26:24 of essential fatty acids. 26:28 Okay. 26:34 You can see how rich and creamy this really is. 26:40 You could add some raspberries to this, 26:42 you can even add some mint if you wanted to 26:46 and make it a carob-mint filling. 26:51 I like to add coconut whip cream to this 26:57 but you can make so very easily with just some coconut milk, 27:01 a little bit of maple syrup, and a pinch of salt, 27:06 whip it up, and you have a very simple whip cream 27:11 or you can just simply make it like this. 27:17 And there you have your beautiful 27:21 avocado carob pie filling. 27:28 Well, friends, that's it for today, 27:30 but join us next week for another episode. 27:33 In the mean time pick up the phone, 27:35 and give us a call at 800-525-9192. 27:40 Mention the NEWSTART Now program 27:43 and receive the NEWSTART special. |
