Per day. 00:06:10.27\00:06:11.60 Oh, yeah, well, 00:06:11.63\00:06:13.23 I could probably go two and a half miles at a time, 00:06:13.27\00:06:15.60 and then I come and rest. 00:06:15.64\00:06:17.24 And I go back out again 00:06:17.27\00:06:18.94 or I just catch half a mile in between a lecture and say, 00:06:18.97\00:06:23.85 a spa treatment or something like that. 00:06:23.88\00:06:25.88 Did you notice any weight loss? 00:06:25.91\00:06:28.12 Oh, yes, I've lost, you know, some would say, 00:06:28.15\00:06:31.09 you've only lost four or five pounds, 00:06:31.12\00:06:32.92 but I'll tell you, my muscles have grown 00:06:32.95\00:06:35.52 a lot in my legs and I have lost inches. 00:06:35.56\00:06:39.39 So I know from before, when I have been here 00:06:39.43\00:06:41.90 before that this program, exercise, 00:06:41.93\00:06:45.67 and nutritious food really works. 00:06:45.70\00:06:49.20 It just peels it off, but it's a natural, 00:06:49.24\00:06:51.64 it's not a bounce-off and bounce-back-on. 00:06:51.67\00:06:56.11 It's not really, when I walk I don't really go, 00:06:56.14\00:06:59.18 "Why, I've walked five miles." 00:06:59.21\00:07:00.78 No, I walk an hour everyday at least. 00:07:00.82\00:07:03.49 Wow, that's great. 00:07:03.52\00:07:04.85 You know, with my weight, I don't really go, 00:07:04.89\00:07:07.16 oh, this or that. 00:07:07.19\00:07:08.52 I'm going, I'm eating the right food, 00:07:08.56\00:07:10.99 I'm trying to glorify the Lord, and give thanks 00:07:11.03\00:07:14.30 for this temple of the Holy Spirit 00:07:14.33\00:07:16.63 that the Lord has given me. 00:07:16.67\00:07:18.77 I'd like to say, I'm 71.5 years old, 00:07:18.80\00:07:23.00 and I'm really thankful that I'm still alive, 00:07:23.04\00:07:25.34 longevity is not in my family, so I'm thankful for that. 00:07:25.37\00:07:29.71 And when I started comparing birthdates 00:07:29.74\00:07:31.98 with other people in the program, 00:07:32.01\00:07:33.42 there are 18 of us now. 00:07:33.45\00:07:35.48 Like six or seven of us are 70 or 71 years old. 00:07:35.52\00:07:39.45 And we just kind of looked at each other 00:07:39.49\00:07:41.82 and there was the whole scale of this, 00:07:41.86\00:07:43.76 one fellow who is extremely buff at 73 00:07:43.79\00:07:46.66 and some who are really suffering 00:07:46.70\00:07:48.50 but we all saw that together, 00:07:48.53\00:07:51.00 all four or five of us are swimming up hill 00:07:51.03\00:07:53.37 or swimming upstream together in this program, 00:07:53.40\00:07:55.80 we've all improved. 00:07:55.84\00:07:57.74 And we all see what 70, 71 can look like. 00:07:57.77\00:08:01.94 You know, it's not as the world sees 00:08:01.98\00:08:04.25 but as we see as the Lord works in us, 00:08:04.28\00:08:06.98 and as cooperate with the Lord's health plan for us. 00:08:07.02\00:08:11.05 Well said. 00:08:11.09\00:08:12.59 I couldn't have said it better myself. 00:08:12.62\00:08:15.02 That was wonderful, thank you. Thank you. 00:08:15.06\00:08:17.43 You know, when you go home, you, of course, 00:08:17.46\00:08:21.76 will be with your husband and seeing to it 00:08:21.80\00:08:25.70 that he sticks with the program 00:08:25.73\00:08:27.67 and let's just talk about him for a minute, 00:08:27.70\00:08:29.70 'cause this interview is basically about you. 00:08:29.74\00:08:31.91 Sure. How's he doing? 00:08:31.94\00:08:35.04 Ah, he is enjoying the food. Good. 00:08:35.08\00:08:39.58 And he has lost, I think, 16 pounds. 00:08:39.61\00:08:42.48 He does have some weight. 00:08:42.52\00:08:43.85 He has some skeletal nervous system issues. 00:08:43.89\00:08:47.96 Yeah. 00:08:47.99\00:08:49.52 So outside of a miracle, it's not going to be like 00:08:49.56\00:08:53.90 there's diabetics who gets offered their insulin, 00:08:53.93\00:08:55.83 and so forth. 00:08:55.86\00:08:57.20 He's, outside of a miracle, he is not going to jump up 00:08:57.23\00:09:00.37 and be okay. 00:09:00.40\00:09:01.90 But, like, he can walk 00:09:01.94\00:09:04.97 half a mile, a quarter mile, 00:09:05.01\00:09:09.04 and then do that a couple of time a day. 00:09:09.08\00:09:11.45 And that is an improvement for him. 00:09:11.48\00:09:12.81 Good, good. 00:09:12.85\00:09:14.18 And as the food is going to decrease inflammation 00:09:14.22\00:09:16.69 in his body, which it naturally does, 00:09:16.72\00:09:19.32 and also maximizes health on the cellular level. 00:09:19.35\00:09:23.36 We're trusting that working with the Lord, 00:09:23.39\00:09:27.20 cooperating with the healing 00:09:27.23\00:09:28.56 that is given to us in our bodies, 00:09:28.60\00:09:30.97 that he will walk out of this difficulty 00:09:31.00\00:09:34.30 to maximizing what he has. 00:09:34.34\00:09:38.21 Now, I have to ask this. 00:09:38.24\00:09:39.87 Did you know all this prior to your first arrival here, 00:09:39.91\00:09:45.11 the NEWSTART program? 00:09:45.15\00:09:46.65 Or you just learned it now, 00:09:46.68\00:09:48.62 or is it part of your credential as a nurse, 00:09:48.65\00:09:51.42 your knowledge, etc., about foods. 00:09:51.45\00:09:54.16 Well, I was fortunate enough to go 00:09:54.19\00:09:55.72 to Loma Linda Nursing School 40 years ago, 00:09:55.76\00:09:58.56 so I have the Adventist based health message. 00:09:58.59\00:10:01.50 And I have appreciated it, but I haven't attired to it, 00:10:01.53\00:10:05.10 but basically I've been eating healthy. 00:10:05.13\00:10:08.10 And after my first 18 days at NEWSTART, 00:10:08.14\00:10:11.97 I went back, and everything, I mean, I was 65 then 00:10:12.01\00:10:15.54 and my memory was going like "oh! I don't wanna do this." 00:10:15.58\00:10:18.91 And golly, it was a real turnaround, 00:10:18.95\00:10:22.28 real turnaround, so I did come here. 00:10:22.32\00:10:25.85 I already have a vitamix, 00:10:25.89\00:10:27.22 and I have the tools in my kitchen, 00:10:27.26\00:10:28.59 and I have the jars of nuts and everything, 00:10:28.62\00:10:30.79 but we are going to go back. 00:10:30.83\00:10:32.83 You know, sometimes you have a year in your life 00:10:32.86\00:10:35.53 that's very stressful. 00:10:35.56\00:10:37.10 And the last year has been extremely stressful 00:10:37.13\00:10:39.27 and I didn't have time to cook. 00:10:39.30\00:10:41.07 But now, the stress is over, 00:10:41.10\00:10:42.90 and we are just reborn again into the message, 00:10:42.94\00:10:45.64 and we are going to embrace it. 00:10:45.67\00:10:47.54 Because I wanna keep the clarity of the mind 00:10:47.58\00:10:50.91 that has been given to me in these last 18 days 00:10:50.95\00:10:53.98 through exercise, water, nutrition. 00:10:54.02\00:10:57.95 Hildi, we are out of time, I've gotta cut you off. 00:10:57.99\00:11:01.19 And I wanna thank you so much for taking your time, 00:11:01.22\00:11:04.56 and friends don't go away, Dr. Gallant is up next. 00:11:04.59\00:11:11.53 When we look at the health status 00:11:11.57\00:11:12.90 of Americans today, 00:11:12.93\00:11:14.37 it's alarming to see that 60% are either overweight 00:11:14.40\00:11:17.97 or obese. 00:11:18.01\00:11:19.37 In addition, diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, 00:11:24.08\00:11:27.12 cancer, and heart disorders are the leading cause 00:11:27.15\00:11:29.55 of so many complications and deaths every year. 00:11:29.58\00:11:32.72 Could it have something to do with what we eat? 00:11:36.93\00:11:39.56 After all, every one in four Americans 00:11:39.59\00:11:42.30 visit a fast food restaurant daily 00:11:42.33\00:11:44.33 and with such easy access to quick-fix foods, 00:11:44.37\00:11:47.87 we tend to forget the poor health value 00:11:47.90\00:11:50.14 those foods actually offer. 00:11:50.17\00:11:52.87 Maybe it's the sedentary lifestyle 00:11:52.91\00:11:54.81 and lack of exercise that we have become 00:11:54.84\00:11:56.71 so accustomed to as immediate dependant world. 00:11:56.75\00:12:00.22 Whatever the cause of these diseases, 00:12:00.25\00:12:02.02 a solution has arrived. 00:12:02.05\00:12:06.35 The NEWSTART lifestyle center offers an enriching program 00:12:06.39\00:12:09.72 where patients can get a healing 00:12:09.76\00:12:11.46 of mind, body, and soul. 00:12:11.49\00:12:13.53 Located in the outskirts of Sacramento, 00:12:13.56\00:12:16.16 the NEWSTART center is situated on the beautiful campus 00:12:16.20\00:12:19.30 of Weimar Center of Health And Education 00:12:19.33\00:12:22.10 with scenic walking and hiking trails all around. 00:12:22.14\00:12:25.84 With the whole plant foods eaten whole, Mono, 00:12:25.87\00:12:29.21 the NEWSTART center promotes a healthy plant-based diet 00:12:29.24\00:12:32.38 with an emphasis on natural foods. 00:12:32.41\00:12:34.72 The NEWSTART staff are made up of 00:12:34.75\00:12:36.85 California board certified nurses, doctors, 00:12:36.89\00:12:40.29 dieticians, and therapist who work together 00:12:40.32\00:12:43.12 to assist each patient personally. 00:12:43.16\00:12:45.66 The staff are dedicated to each patient's success 00:12:45.69\00:12:48.40 in the program and are always there 00:12:48.43\00:12:50.37 to guide, advice, and encourage. 00:12:50.40\00:12:53.13 In addition to a healthy lifestyle, 00:12:53.17\00:12:55.30 NEWSTART also promotes a healthy exercise routine. 00:12:55.34\00:12:58.47 You're both in sequence, that's good, all right. 00:12:58.51\00:13:01.24 As part of the balanced program, 00:13:01.28\00:13:02.88 there is much opportunity to getting a fair share 00:13:02.91\00:13:05.51 of physical activity from utilizing 00:13:05.55\00:13:07.75 our fitness center to taking a stroll 00:13:07.78\00:13:10.25 around the peaceful grounds of Weimar. 00:13:10.29\00:13:12.85 It's amazing what a NEWSTART can do for you. 00:13:12.89\00:13:16.86 Welcome back, friends. Yes. 00:13:50.39\00:13:52.39 And let me describe what that means, just briefly. 00:13:52.43\00:13:55.10 Non-medical companion usually means 00:13:55.13\00:13:58.83 that someone's here in the program 00:13:58.87\00:14:01.74 with another person who needs to see the doctor, 00:14:01.77\00:14:05.84 who has a series of ailments or diseases or medications 00:14:05.87\00:14:11.25 that they want to change, 00:14:11.28\00:14:13.11 so the non-medical companion is here to support them. 00:14:13.15\00:14:16.02 Absolutely. 00:14:16.05\00:14:17.39 She is here to support her husband. 00:14:17.42\00:14:18.75 She is, she is a wonderful person, 00:14:18.79\00:14:20.36 full of energy like you said. 00:14:20.39\00:14:22.22 And you know, she's been here before. 00:14:22.26\00:14:25.89 Four years ago... Yes. 00:14:25.93\00:14:27.46 Or five years ago. 00:14:27.50\00:14:28.83 Four or five, she came without her husband 00:14:28.86\00:14:31.03 at that point. 00:14:31.07\00:14:32.47 And now, has comeback with him, and she's done quiet well. 00:14:32.50\00:14:36.87 She's had a good experience, she's lost some weight, 00:14:36.91\00:14:40.61 we checked some numbers, things look pretty good. 00:14:40.64\00:14:43.21 And she was able to find tune things a little bit 00:14:43.24\00:14:45.95 because the program has changed a little bit 00:14:45.98\00:14:48.88 from four or five years ago. 00:14:48.92\00:14:50.25 Yes, it has. 00:14:50.29\00:14:51.62 I don't want our guests out there and people 00:14:51.65\00:14:53.69 just listening to program to think that 00:14:53.72\00:14:56.12 we are just doing the same old thing. 00:14:56.16\00:14:58.89 We've changed a few things, and I think I'd like to believe 00:14:58.93\00:15:02.03 we've made some improvements. 00:15:02.06\00:15:03.43 I think so. 00:15:03.47\00:15:04.80 And I remember Dr. Nedley asking me, 00:15:04.83\00:15:07.17 "Do you think we can make some changes in the program." 00:15:07.20\00:15:09.74 And I was like, "Of course, 00:15:09.77\00:15:11.11 we can always better the program." 00:15:11.14\00:15:12.47 Absolutely. 00:15:12.51\00:15:13.84 You know, how to is up to you guys, the doctors, 00:15:13.88\00:15:17.08 the people who really run this place. 00:15:17.11\00:15:20.72 Nonetheless, I like to talk a little bit 00:15:20.75\00:15:23.32 about HealthEast hospital. 00:15:23.35\00:15:24.69 Yes. 00:15:24.72\00:15:26.05 And I know we didn't interview him 00:15:26.09\00:15:29.16 for whatever reason, I don't even recall, 00:15:29.19\00:15:31.93 but nonetheless, how is he faring through all this? 00:15:31.96\00:15:35.20 Randy's doing quiet well. 00:15:35.23\00:15:36.56 He came here with a lot of muscle weakness 00:15:36.60\00:15:41.67 in his extremities, upper and lower extremities, 00:15:41.70\00:15:44.47 had a hard time walking, standing, 00:15:44.51\00:15:47.28 but couldn't do very much. 00:15:47.31\00:15:48.94 Why is that, I mean? 00:15:48.98\00:15:52.21 He actually had a neck surgery a year ago, today. 00:15:52.25\00:15:55.38 Okay. 00:15:55.42\00:15:56.75 And ever since then he's had sort of these 00:15:56.79\00:15:59.85 these neuromuscular issues and we're, 00:15:59.89\00:16:03.06 I don't think they've exactly labeled it. 00:16:03.09\00:16:06.26 But what we have found is that by changing his lifestyle 00:16:06.29\00:16:10.87 he actually was able to achieve, 00:16:10.90\00:16:13.74 in 18 days, some improvement. 00:16:13.77\00:16:17.37 He tells me that he is walking farther 00:16:17.41\00:16:20.78 than he has walked before for the last year, 00:16:20.81\00:16:24.38 and he had lost a lot of muscle tone. 00:16:24.41\00:16:28.45 And he was actually wearing shorts 00:16:28.48\00:16:30.35 when he came to see me today, and he showed me his calves, 00:16:30.39\00:16:32.69 and he said, "I'm starting to get some definition 00:16:32.72\00:16:36.19 to my muscles again." 00:16:36.22\00:16:37.56 Yeah, which he is excited about. 00:16:37.59\00:16:39.93 That is exciting. I had that same experience. 00:16:39.96\00:16:43.30 I've always had these real skinny legs, 00:16:43.33\00:16:45.97 I still do, but they have a little muscle on them now 00:16:46.00\00:16:49.00 and they are never used to. 00:16:49.04\00:16:50.37 Praise the Lord, that's beautiful. 00:16:50.41\00:16:51.74 And so he is really done some great gains. 00:16:51.77\00:16:55.08 You know, what I like about the non medicals, 00:16:55.11\00:16:58.25 the husband and wife, as my wife came with me, 00:16:58.28\00:17:02.12 I couldn't imagine for a minute how I was gonna go back home 00:17:02.15\00:17:06.12 after 18 days and share with my wife 00:17:06.15\00:17:09.02 what I learned here. 00:17:09.06\00:17:10.39 Yeah, yeah. That's an impossibility. 00:17:10.43\00:17:12.66 It's... it's... it's tough, it really is. 00:17:12.69\00:17:14.90 It is a blessing to come together 00:17:14.93\00:17:16.70 as a couple to learn the information together. 00:17:16.73\00:17:21.00 And then to not only be on the same page, 00:17:21.04\00:17:24.11 but be there to support each other 00:17:24.14\00:17:26.14 as you go back home and transition 00:17:26.17\00:17:28.64 all this information to home habits. 00:17:28.68\00:17:32.05 Absolutely. 00:17:32.08\00:17:33.42 And that's what I tell our guests, is that 00:17:33.45\00:17:34.78 we need to develop habits while they are here 00:17:34.82\00:17:37.55 that they can take home with them 00:17:37.59\00:17:39.05 to be able to continue this at home. 00:17:39.09\00:17:41.42 But Randy has done very well, he's lost about 18 pounds. 00:17:41.46\00:17:45.13 Oh, wow! And he is... 00:17:45.16\00:17:47.46 He is a pretty big guy though. 00:17:47.50\00:17:49.00 He is a big guy to begin with, absolutely, and he has, 00:17:49.03\00:17:53.60 he's just feeling excited about 00:17:53.64\00:17:55.47 how things have transitioned while he's here. 00:17:55.50\00:17:58.37 Does he really get it? 00:17:58.41\00:17:59.74 I mean, I know he is a doctor 00:17:59.77\00:18:01.51 and he should already have known it, 00:18:01.54\00:18:03.11 but some where along the line, may be he just didn't do 00:18:03.14\00:18:08.35 what he thought he should be doing. 00:18:08.38\00:18:09.98 How does that work? I think he really does get it. 00:18:10.02\00:18:13.56 He, you know in lectures, 00:18:13.59\00:18:16.02 he was listening and paying attention 00:18:16.06\00:18:18.79 and he would understand what, the points 00:18:18.83\00:18:23.13 that we were trying to get across, 00:18:23.16\00:18:24.83 and he is committed. 00:18:24.87\00:18:26.94 He is committed to continuing this life style. 00:18:26.97\00:18:29.80 He started to see the benefits of making these changes. 00:18:29.84\00:18:34.48 And I just pray that by the grace of God 00:18:34.51\00:18:37.35 he will continue to see those as he continues this at home. 00:18:37.38\00:18:41.82 Absolutely, I think that is so important. 00:18:41.85\00:18:46.79 Well, not just important, if you wanna live, 00:18:46.82\00:18:50.56 you learn what you learn here and then take it home with you. 00:18:50.59\00:18:54.73 As I pray every day that I stick to it. 00:18:54.76\00:18:58.63 It's been 11 years for me, this August. 00:18:58.67\00:19:00.74 Wow, Praise the Lord. Man, I'm just so grateful. 00:19:00.77\00:19:03.84 Yes, and about a hundred pounds lesser 00:19:03.87\00:19:07.08 than my heaviest weight ever. 00:19:07.11\00:19:09.14 All though, from when I came here 00:19:09.18\00:19:10.95 to the NEWSTART program, maybe, like 75 or so, 80. 00:19:10.98\00:19:15.35 That's still great. 00:19:15.38\00:19:16.72 But, you know, it's by the grace of God 00:19:16.75\00:19:19.39 that I was able to stick to it but without my wife, 00:19:19.42\00:19:23.43 I don't know that I've ever would have been 00:19:23.46\00:19:25.06 able to stick to it. 00:19:25.09\00:19:27.13 It would have been so easy, "Oh, there's a McDonalds, 00:19:27.16\00:19:30.37 why don't I just get a burger on the way." 00:19:30.40\00:19:32.13 Yeah. No, absolutely, it's very important. 00:19:32.17\00:19:36.94 When we changed our lifestyle, I had my wife, 00:19:36.97\00:19:39.87 but I also had younger children, 00:19:39.91\00:19:41.84 and we had to do it all as a family. 00:19:41.88\00:19:44.25 And I think that incorporation of including 00:19:44.28\00:19:47.52 as many people in the household 00:19:47.55\00:19:49.62 as you can in making lifestyle change. 00:19:49.65\00:19:52.15 It's crucial to continuity because one of the things, 00:19:52.19\00:19:57.03 I'll just share this real brief, 00:19:57.06\00:19:58.39 and one of the things that I learned 00:19:58.43\00:20:00.76 and started to teach people as I started to teach 00:20:00.80\00:20:02.86 was we need to read labels and pay attention to them. 00:20:02.90\00:20:07.90 And if there's things on the label 00:20:07.94\00:20:09.54 that we don't know what they are 00:20:09.57\00:20:11.87 or we can't pronounce them, we probably shouldn't eat. 00:20:11.91\00:20:16.75 So when we did this, our kids were young, 00:20:16.78\00:20:20.02 and one of our younger children was able to read labels, 00:20:20.05\00:20:24.35 about eight years old, was able to read labels, 00:20:24.39\00:20:26.79 and was able to remind us, "Hey, 00:20:26.82\00:20:29.22 this is probably something we shouldn't eat." 00:20:29.26\00:20:31.36 Because if they didn't understand 00:20:31.39\00:20:33.09 what it was, then, you know, may be its not good for us. 00:20:33.13\00:20:37.63 Yeah, you know, I heard Dr. Lukens in my, a year ago, 00:20:37.67\00:20:42.20 and plant-based, whole plant foods eaten whole. 00:20:42.24\00:20:47.24 Whole plant based food eaten... 00:20:47.28\00:20:49.64 And you know he's right. Yeah. 00:20:49.68\00:20:51.81 'Cause if it's in a can or in a box, 00:20:51.85\00:20:53.98 it's been processed. 00:20:54.02\00:20:55.35 That's right. And we shouldn't eat it. 00:20:55.38\00:20:56.95 That's right. 00:20:56.99\00:20:59.02 You know, I want to thank you 'cause I know 00:20:59.05\00:21:00.96 you are a busy guy. 00:21:00.99\00:21:02.62 Dr. Gallant not only has a full-time job 00:21:02.66\00:21:05.66 at the NEWSTART program. 00:21:05.69\00:21:07.23 He is an ER doctor, 00:21:07.26\00:21:09.20 and sometimes he is working 24, 36 hours, 00:21:09.23\00:21:13.64 may be I shouldn't even say that, but lot of hours. 00:21:13.67\00:21:16.81 And I'm so grateful that you are here. 00:21:16.84\00:21:18.71 Well, thank you. I'm glad to be here. 00:21:18.74\00:21:21.14 As you say, it's good to be seen. 00:21:21.18\00:21:22.54 Yes. 00:21:22.58\00:21:23.91 I know brought a good change to our NEWSTART program. 00:21:23.95\00:21:26.65 Well, praise the Lord. And I'm here to thank you. 00:21:26.68\00:21:30.42 Praise the Lord. Thank you, Ron. 00:21:30.45\00:21:31.79 And God bless. God bless you too. 00:21:31.82\00:21:33.29 We'll see you next time. Okay. 00:21:33.32\00:21:34.79 You too, friends, but don't go away, 00:21:34.82\00:21:36.46 we have a tip for you. 00:21:36.49\00:21:38.03 Welcome to the NEWSTART Kitchen. 00:22:11.73\00:22:13.46 We are going to be making an Avocado-Mousse Carob Pie. 00:22:13.50\00:22:17.47 And believe it or not, 00:22:17.50\00:22:18.83 these avocados are going to be totally disguised, 00:22:18.87\00:22:21.20 and you won't even notice that. 00:22:21.24\00:22:22.84 So let's talk about the recipe. 00:22:22.87\00:22:24.77 Avocadoes, very good source of fat, 00:22:24.81\00:22:27.81 and we know that avocadoes are important 00:22:27.84\00:22:31.81 for our diets especially, nursing mothers 00:22:31.85\00:22:34.55 and expecting mothers. 00:22:34.58\00:22:37.12 We have some medjool dates that are pitted. 00:22:37.15\00:22:40.26 Raw carob powder, very important that it's raw 00:22:40.29\00:22:43.22 as opposed to toasted. 00:22:43.26\00:22:44.59 You could use toasted but the raw carob powder 00:22:44.63\00:22:46.63 is gonna make it very smooth, 00:22:46.66\00:22:48.36 toasted is gonna give it more of an edge to it, 00:22:48.40\00:22:50.97 almost like a coffee like edge, but it's okay, 00:22:51.00\00:22:54.10 depends on your preference. 00:22:54.14\00:22:55.47 Maple syrup, and some water. 00:22:55.50\00:22:57.57 So let's get started. 00:22:57.61\00:22:59.27 We are going to add our avocadoes to our recipe. 00:22:59.31\00:23:03.21 And again, avocadoes are really good source of fat. 00:23:03.24\00:23:06.65 When you pit an avocado, 00:23:06.68\00:23:08.32 you never want to take the avocado 00:23:08.35\00:23:10.49 and just use the knife in your hand, 00:23:10.52\00:23:12.55 that's very dangerous. 00:23:12.59\00:23:13.92 Put it down on a cutting board, give it a tap, give it a spin, 00:23:13.96\00:23:18.69 and put the avocado like so, 00:23:18.73\00:23:20.43 you can cut right through the skin, and peel it, 00:23:20.46\00:23:23.00 and it's very simple to use that way. 00:23:23.03\00:23:26.40 We need about 1.5 cups of avocado, 00:23:26.43\00:23:31.21 so that's about 1.5 avocadoes depending on the size. 00:23:31.24\00:23:34.78 We'll be adding our pitted dates, and again, 00:23:34.81\00:23:36.61 I like to use the whole dates. 00:23:36.64\00:23:38.08 I pit them myself because sometimes, 00:23:38.11\00:23:41.32 you can get mould in here and it's not something 00:23:41.35\00:23:43.82 that you definitely wanna use in your recipes. 00:23:43.85\00:23:45.42 So I don't like buying, you know, 00:23:45.45\00:23:48.29 dates that have been chopped up, 00:23:48.32\00:23:49.86 so I like to buy them just whole dates. 00:23:49.89\00:23:52.33 Always inspect before you put them in 00:23:52.36\00:23:55.86 to your food processor or your blender. 00:23:55.90\00:23:59.73 Okay, and medjool dates 00:23:59.77\00:24:03.37 are a very good source of fiber. 00:24:03.41\00:24:04.97 We are going to add a little bit of an element 00:24:05.01\00:24:06.88 of a caramel, 00:24:06.91\00:24:08.24 and this will be for our sweetness. 00:24:08.28\00:24:10.21 What we are going to do is we are going to add 00:24:10.25\00:24:11.81 our raw carob powder. 00:24:11.85\00:24:15.45 And maple syrup, I love grade B maple syrup 00:24:15.48\00:24:20.26 because grade B has more of a maple flavor. 00:24:20.29\00:24:22.26 If you use grade A, it's still the same 00:24:22.29\00:24:24.56 in terms of nutritional and minerals, 00:24:24.59\00:24:26.59 it's just gonna have a lighter flavor. 00:24:26.63\00:24:27.96 So grade B is gonna give us a little bit more 00:24:28.00\00:24:29.83 of a deep maple flavor. 00:24:29.86\00:24:32.03 And then our water, 00:24:32.07\00:24:33.40 you can always add more water to, 00:24:33.44\00:24:34.77 depending on what you want to, you know, 00:24:34.80\00:24:36.47 the consistency that you want. 00:24:36.50\00:24:38.24 And what we'll do is we will blend this up 00:24:38.27\00:24:39.81 till everything as nice and creamy, 00:24:39.84\00:24:41.74 then we'll put it into our pie crust 00:24:41.78\00:24:44.11 which we have referenced on our website, 00:24:44.15\00:24:46.55 and it will be that simple. 00:24:46.58\00:24:47.92 And there we have it, our beautiful carob's filling. 00:25:34.80\00:25:39.30 And this is lovely by itself, 00:25:39.33\00:25:41.10 you could make this into pudding, 00:25:41.14\00:25:42.57 you can use it as a mousse, I even use this as a frosting. 00:25:42.60\00:25:46.04 So I want you to get some ideas 00:25:46.07\00:25:47.74 of how versatile this is. 00:25:47.78\00:25:49.98 I'm just going to simply just 00:25:50.01\00:25:51.58 pour it into my pie crust. 00:25:51.61\00:25:57.45 That's very thick 00:25:57.49\00:25:59.72 and it will set up in the refrigerator. 00:25:59.75\00:26:02.72 I would put it in for about two to four hours 00:26:02.76\00:26:04.73 until it's totally firm, 00:26:04.76\00:26:09.56 and you won't even notice that there is avocado in here. 00:26:09.60\00:26:13.07 And a lot of people might be telling, 00:26:13.10\00:26:14.90 "You know, not really into that, 00:26:14.94\00:26:16.47 in terms of avocado in my desert," 00:26:16.50\00:26:18.94 but avocado is actually a fruit 00:26:18.97\00:26:21.04 and it's a great source 00:26:21.08\00:26:23.98 of essential fatty acids. 00:26:24.01\00:26:28.55 Okay. 00:26:28.58\00:26:29.92 You can see how rich and creamy this really is. 00:26:34.39\00:26:40.06 You could add some raspberries to this, 00:26:40.10\00:26:42.36 you can even add some mint if you wanted to 00:26:42.40\00:26:46.53 and make it a carob-mint filling. 00:26:46.57\00:26:51.47 I like to add coconut whip cream to this 00:26:51.51\00:26:57.45 but you can make so very easily with just some coconut milk, 00:26:57.48\00:27:01.48 a little bit of maple syrup, and a pinch of salt, 00:27:01.52\00:27:06.05 whip it up, and you have a very simple whip cream 00:27:06.09\00:27:11.76 or you can just simply make it like this. 00:27:11.79\00:27:17.77 And there you have your beautiful 00:27:17.80\00:27:21.20 avocado carob pie filling. 00:27:21.24\00:27:23.87 Well, friends, that's it for today, 00:27:28.61\00:27:30.15 but join us next week for another episode. 00:27:30.18\00:27:33.42 In the mean time pick up the phone, 00:27:33.45\00:27:35.05 and give us a call at 800-525-9192.
