That's a better way putting in. 00:12:52.62\00:12:54.79 Yeah. 00:12:54.82\00:12:55.99 What happened? 00:12:56.02\00:12:57.45 Well, we see this frequently, sometimes the numbers go up, 00:12:57.48\00:13:03.55 fortunately her numbers came down 00:13:03.58\00:13:05.47 because she is very, very worried about it. 00:13:05.50\00:13:07.83 She's very concerned that she's just not gonna do well 00:13:07.86\00:13:11.73 and now she's happy 00:13:11.76\00:13:13.09 because she saw-- at least her kidney is now, 00:13:13.12\00:13:15.99 the numbers are normal. 00:13:16.02\00:13:17.73 What happens is from two things-- 00:13:17.76\00:13:20.03 and I've told you this many times, 00:13:20.06\00:13:22.11 when a person goes on this kind of a dietary, 00:13:22.14\00:13:24.93 it dilates the tiny little blood vessels, 00:13:24.96\00:13:27.01 and they get 75% more oxygenated blood. 00:13:27.04\00:13:30.65 Isn't that amazing? 00:13:30.68\00:13:31.71 In the heart, which makes its stronger 00:13:31.74\00:13:33.84 to pump for the kidneys, the kidneys get it, 00:13:33.87\00:13:36.41 the brain gets it, and all these things 00:13:36.44\00:13:38.42 so we see these things happen and I'll have to say it again, 00:13:38.45\00:13:42.64 we've had people come in from Monday to Thursday 00:13:42.67\00:13:45.14 without a change in their medications. 00:13:45.17\00:13:47.31 Three people have lost 30 pounds of water 00:13:47.34\00:13:49.69 out of their legs and their lungs, 00:13:49.72\00:13:52.44 from Monday to Thursday. 00:13:52.47\00:13:54.19 So we know that the heart's really getting strong, 00:13:54.22\00:13:56.30 we see her-- her kidneys were helped also, 00:13:56.33\00:14:00.87 because instead of using the high protein 00:14:00.90\00:14:04.76 that you get from meat, milk, eggs and fish, 00:14:04.79\00:14:07.45 she is getting a lower protein diet. 00:14:07.48\00:14:09.50 Now this is something that really makes 00:14:09.53\00:14:11.28 the dietitians and the doctors and the people concerned, 00:14:11.31\00:14:14.93 because they say, 00:14:14.96\00:14:16.01 those plants can't give you adequate protein. 00:14:16.04\00:14:19.40 And that's not right. 00:14:19.43\00:14:21.29 The proteins that you get from the plant based foods 00:14:21.32\00:14:25.45 are giving you the amino acid replacements 00:14:25.48\00:14:29.57 that you're using-- that you are going use, 00:14:29.60\00:14:31.77 that you can use it. 00:14:31.80\00:14:33.17 The proteins, especially from the milk, meat and eggs, 00:14:33.20\00:14:38.40 those are giving you proteins 00:14:38.43\00:14:40.10 and it's overloading the amino acids, 00:14:40.13\00:14:44.23 that you can't use, 00:14:44.26\00:14:45.47 so now it's overloading the kidney, 00:14:45.50\00:14:47.37 so the kidney has to chop all this up, 00:14:47.40\00:14:50.54 send the waste products of nitrogen 00:14:50.57\00:14:52.56 down through the kidneys, 00:14:52.59\00:14:53.96 and so our kidneys got two helps, 00:14:53.99\00:14:56.43 it got a stronger help from our diet, 00:14:56.46\00:15:00.04 because of the circulation 00:15:00.07\00:15:01.74 and it got a better health because the protein was lower 00:15:01.77\00:15:05.22 and it didn't have the amino acids 00:15:05.25\00:15:06.76 that you can't use 00:15:06.79\00:15:08.35 and the kidneys have to handle that, 00:15:08.38\00:15:10.20 that's kind of a lot of stuff to say, 00:15:10.23\00:15:11.78 but-- but I think here-- 00:15:11.81\00:15:13.44 Well, you said a mouthful. Here's the problem as I see it. 00:15:13.47\00:15:18.31 Not being a doctor. 00:15:18.34\00:15:20.61 We have people come here, including myself 00:15:20.64\00:15:23.62 and we have to be re-educated about the food chain. 00:15:23.65\00:15:28.60 We were told to eat more protein, 00:15:28.63\00:15:30.93 Dr. Atkins said more protein, 00:15:30.96\00:15:33.66 this guy and that guy, 00:15:33.69\00:15:34.72 everyone's talking about protein, but animal protein-- 00:15:34.75\00:15:38.28 You know the thing that's worst about Atkins 00:15:38.31\00:15:40.69 is he said protein, the first time, 00:15:40.72\00:15:42.36 the high protein diet, 00:15:42.39\00:15:43.94 the second time around 00:15:43.97\00:15:45.72 he said we had to have the low carb diet. 00:15:45.75\00:15:49.01 And that's thing that's the best, 00:15:49.04\00:15:51.91 a fuel food for your whole body, 00:15:51.94\00:15:54.47 your brain especially. 00:15:54.50\00:15:55.77 And he said not to use it. So-- 00:17:53.04\00:17:57.33 Yeah, I know. 00:17:57.36\00:17:58.39 I know you know this, 00:17:58.42\00:17:59.54 but I wanted to say this for the viewers. 00:17:59.57\00:18:03.33 The other thing is-- is that the low carb thing-- 00:18:03.36\00:18:06.39 you see, her son is really trying to help her 00:18:06.42\00:18:10.11 because he wants mom around, you know. 00:18:10.14\00:18:12.03 Sure. 00:18:12.06\00:18:13.09 Very pleasant person to be around. 00:18:13.12\00:18:14.64 Yeah. 00:18:14.67\00:18:15.70 And the thing is, is that 00:18:15.73\00:18:17.91 with all the information that's out there, 00:18:17.94\00:18:21.95 sometimes, you know, we don't know 00:18:21.98\00:18:27.20 enough to coach in right way, 00:18:27.23\00:18:30.14 and the other thing was that her eye doctor told her 00:18:30.17\00:18:35.54 that if her blood sugar was over 250 00:18:35.57\00:18:38.64 that she would go blind, 00:18:38.67\00:18:40.25 I know that she didn't say that. 00:18:40.28\00:18:42.12 All right. 00:18:42.15\00:18:43.19 Because, you know, her blood-- 00:18:43.22\00:18:45.90 many, many people's blood sugar is over 250 for a lot of times 00:18:45.93\00:18:50.50 and they don't go blind. 00:18:50.53\00:18:51.65 But that-- diabetes is the highest reason, 00:18:51.68\00:18:57.07 it's the most common reason for blindness in the United States. 00:18:57.10\00:19:00.95 But the thing is, is that as she continues on this, 00:19:00.98\00:19:05.56 using the insulin, chasing the blood sugars, 00:19:05.59\00:19:08.71 trying to force them down, 00:19:08.74\00:19:11.34 as it's been shown in the literature 00:19:11.37\00:19:13.05 that the micro vascular disease in the eye 00:19:13.08\00:19:16.18 is not improved, why? 00:19:16.21\00:19:17.93 Because the diabetes continues to get worse. 00:19:17.96\00:19:20.94 Now when we are able to get her off of the insulin, 00:19:20.97\00:19:23.94 she's able to get her weight down, 00:19:23.97\00:19:25.61 she's able to do the exercise, 00:19:25.64\00:19:27.52 she's not able to do too much of that right now. 00:19:27.55\00:19:30.39 When she's able to do all of that stuff, 00:19:30.42\00:19:33.07 her numbers are gonna be good, 00:19:33.10\00:19:34.99 she's not gonna be having the medications 00:19:35.02\00:19:37.52 and her eyesight isn't gonna be effected by that. 00:19:37.55\00:19:40.44 What she's done considerably well, 00:19:40.47\00:19:43.85 especially after what she is gone through... 00:19:43.88\00:19:46.28 Yeah, that surgery. That was an amazing surgery. 00:19:46.31\00:19:48.40 Amazing surgery that she seem to just pop right back. 00:19:48.43\00:19:51.92 Yeah, yeah, she was thrilled with it, 00:19:51.95\00:19:54.07 it did with the da Vinci thing. 00:19:54.10\00:19:57.51 The da Vinci thing. 00:19:57.54\00:19:59.08 Yeah, it's a robotic surgery. Yeah, you mentioned that. 00:19:59.11\00:20:01.33 Yeah, you know that's-- that's really-- 00:20:01.36\00:20:04.29 that's an incredible thing that they're doing. 00:20:04.32\00:20:06.90 So, will she continue to call on you for, as her doctor? 00:20:06.93\00:20:14.48 You know what, she lives locally-- 00:20:14.51\00:20:17.11 locally enough, so that you can come here and she says well, 00:20:17.14\00:20:20.57 then should I not go to my other doctor? 00:20:20.60\00:20:22.41 I said, no, she's with Kiser and in the meantime 00:20:22.44\00:20:28.06 we're hopping to get her on a better insulin, 00:20:28.09\00:20:29.93 the one that she's on is really tough 00:20:29.96\00:20:32.18 to control your blood sugars. 00:20:32.21\00:20:33.98 But anyway, I said, no, keep going to them 00:20:34.01\00:20:37.11 because you'll be a-- 00:20:37.14\00:20:38.78 you'll be a good testimony for what's happening, 00:20:38.81\00:20:41.61 you'll be a good example of what other people can happen. 00:20:41.64\00:20:45.54 There is a cardiologist in the area, 00:20:45.57\00:20:47.90 that if he knows 00:20:47.93\00:20:49.98 that a person is really got severe heart problems 00:20:50.01\00:20:53.12 and he can't help them, with the medications and so forth, 00:20:53.15\00:20:56.57 he sends them up to us, 00:20:56.60\00:20:57.99 if he knows their willing to make a lifestyle change. 00:20:58.02\00:21:00.69 Yes. That's the biggest deal. 00:21:00.72\00:21:02.46 Yeah, it is and she is willing to make that change. 00:21:02.49\00:21:05.10 She's absolutely committed, yeah. 00:21:05.13\00:21:07.20 Yeah. 00:21:07.23\00:21:08.26 So she will come up here and then we'll follow her 00:21:08.29\00:21:10.63 and then she can go down there occasionally. 00:21:10.66\00:21:13.07 Now aside from the diabetes, 00:21:13.10\00:21:15.33 did you notice any other appreciable change 00:21:15.36\00:21:19.36 with regards to her weight, her blood pressure, whatever? 00:21:19.39\00:21:24.72 Well, she kept looking worried, 00:21:24.75\00:21:26.49 and she's still got long way to go on when to eat, 00:21:26.52\00:21:29.44 what to eat and stuff like that, 00:21:29.47\00:21:31.18 she knows it but she's trying to-- 00:21:31.21\00:21:33.45 it's kind of like fasting enough 00:21:33.48\00:21:35.37 to get her blood sugar in the right area, you know, 00:21:35.40\00:21:37.17 and you can't do that always, 'cause sometimes... 00:21:37.20\00:21:40.84 But yeah, after she saw, what had happened to her kidneys. 00:21:40.87\00:21:46.63 I think-- I think that-- 00:21:46.66\00:21:48.38 She's a believer. 00:22:22.03\00:22:25.83 Recent statistics show 00:22:25.86\00:22:27.21 that 83% of American adults consume coffee, 00:22:27.24\00:22:30.23 three cups a day on average. 00:22:30.26\00:22:32.45 But what exactly is caffeine 00:22:32.48\00:22:34.29 and how does it affect our body? 00:22:34.32\00:22:37.52 Caffeine is known as an energy booster, 00:22:37.55\00:22:39.87 many people claim that they need coffee 00:22:39.90\00:22:41.32 to improve their focus, stamina and productivity. 00:22:41.35\00:22:44.32 And several studies seem to support these claims. 00:22:44.35\00:22:47.22 There is just one problem, 00:22:47.25\00:22:48.77 many studies have used faulty methods, 00:22:48.80\00:22:50.77 failing to account for the caffeine habits 00:22:50.80\00:22:52.90 of their participants. 00:22:52.93\00:22:54.57 One study performed by John Hopkins Medical School, 00:22:54.60\00:22:57.20 reveals that the performance boost of caffeine 00:22:57.23\00:22:59.84 only occurs in people, 00:22:59.87\00:23:01.05 who are already experiencing withdrawals from it. 00:23:01.08\00:23:04.22 This is not a result of caffeine 00:23:04.25\00:23:05.81 truly increasing performance, 00:23:05.84\00:23:07.65 but rather a short term reversal 00:23:07.68\00:23:09.60 of caffeine withdrawal. 00:23:09.63\00:23:11.56 When researchers use participants 00:23:11.59\00:23:13.46 who are not experiencing withdrawl, 00:23:13.49\00:23:15.74 caffeine did not improve performance. 00:23:15.77\00:23:18.47 And one of the things we find with caffeine 00:23:18.50\00:23:21.09 is that even though people seem to be able to do things faster 00:23:21.12\00:23:25.73 and for longer period of time, 00:23:25.76\00:23:28.00 it's not uncommon if they make more mistakes, 00:23:28.03\00:23:30.75 they've even had notes about the sports teams 00:23:30.78\00:23:34.09 and so they want them to have more energy, 00:23:34.12\00:23:36.70 they give them-- so they have them 00:23:36.74\00:23:38.76 takes sports strengths or beverages containing caffeine 00:23:38.79\00:23:42.12 and they do have more energy 00:23:42.15\00:23:43.46 but they make more mistakes and errors. 00:23:43.49\00:23:45.47 This is also been shown like when people type, 00:23:45.50\00:23:48.24 they can type faster but they make more mistakes. 00:23:48.27\00:23:51.03 So all in all, 00:23:51.06\00:23:52.09 you're going to be much better off not using caffeine. 00:23:52.12\00:23:56.15 A caffeine is a stimulant, 00:23:56.18\00:23:57.58 the chemical name is trimethylxanthine, 00:23:57.61\00:24:00.43 it speeds up the heart rate, increases the blood pressure, 00:24:00.46\00:24:03.72 because it causes vessel constriction 00:24:03.75\00:24:05.78 which is making the blood vessels smaller 00:24:05.81\00:24:09.28 and it's very interesting, 00:24:09.31\00:24:10.73 many patients who I've worked with 00:24:10.76\00:24:13.09 who have high blood pressure, 00:24:13.12\00:24:14.73 and I ask them to use coffee or tea, 00:24:14.76\00:24:16.77 which of course the tradition coffee, tea, 00:24:16.81\00:24:19.29 both contain caffeine, 00:24:19.32\00:24:20.61 and they say, yes. 00:24:20.64\00:24:21.99 I said, hasn't anyone told you that it would be helpful 00:24:22.02\00:24:25.49 for you to control your blood pressure 00:24:25.52\00:24:27.12 to stop the caffeine, 00:24:27.15\00:24:28.69 so this is another common effect of caffeine. 00:24:28.72\00:24:32.84 It raises the blood pressure, 00:24:32.88\00:24:34.33 as well as-- as we mention 00:24:34.36\00:24:36.16 increase in the gastric situations. 00:24:36.19\00:24:38.18 So people have trouble with ulcers, 00:24:38.21\00:24:41.10 gastro esophageal reflux disease or GERD, 00:24:41.13\00:24:44.00 again they're gonna be better off 00:24:44.03\00:24:45.33 to avoid beverages containing caffeine. 00:24:45.36\00:24:48.69 High caffeine consumption 00:24:48.72\00:24:50.19 is associated with many negative symptoms 00:24:50.22\00:24:52.63 including irritability, insomnia, anxiety, 00:24:52.66\00:24:56.55 stress on the heart, elevated blood pressure, 00:24:56.58\00:24:59.71 headaches, heart burn, upset stomach and dehydration. 00:24:59.74\00:25:04.85 Many people use caffeine to stay awake, 00:25:04.88\00:25:07.34 this may work temporarily but in the long run 00:25:07.37\00:25:09.97 caffeine causes serious sleep disturbances. 00:25:10.00\00:25:13.30 It makes it more difficult to fall and stay a sleep 00:25:13.33\00:25:15.71 and disturbs the important REM phase of the sleep cycle. 00:25:15.74\00:25:19.65 Caffeine users often fall into a vicious cycle, 00:25:19.68\00:25:22.31 the same caffeine they depend on to wake up in the morning, 00:25:22.34\00:25:25.54 keeps them from getting quality sleep at night. 00:25:25.57\00:25:28.45 One of the things we look at with caffeine 00:25:28.48\00:25:29.91 is what we called the half life of caffeine, 00:25:29.94\00:25:32.29 and the half life of caffeine 00:25:32.32\00:25:34.05 is between four and five hours, 00:25:34.08\00:25:36.25 now as you take a dose of caffeine 00:25:36.28\00:25:38.40 in the morning say, at 8 o'clock, 00:25:38.43\00:25:41.18 you know to wake up and-- and four hours, 00:25:41.21\00:25:45.72 half of that will be gone, in another four hours, 00:25:45.75\00:25:48.17 half of what's left will be gone. 00:25:48.20\00:25:49.89 So even though people may only take 00:25:49.92\00:25:52.81 one or two cups of coffee in the morning, 00:25:52.84\00:25:54.92 the effects of that last through out the day. 00:25:54.95\00:25:56.96 And the people have trouble with sleep, 00:25:56.99\00:25:59.37 they definitely should avoid beverages containing caffeine. 00:25:59.40\00:26:02.60 If you're using coffee to wake to wake you up, 00:26:02.63\00:26:04.83 an alternative to coffee would be exercise, 00:26:04.86\00:26:07.97 that would be really good. 00:26:08.00\00:26:09.44 Also, a good brisk shower finishing off with cold 00:26:09.47\00:26:13.59 would help you to wake you up. 00:26:13.62\00:26:15.03 Caffeine is especially dangerous for children, 00:26:15.06\00:26:17.55 infants and pregnant mothers. 00:26:17.58\00:26:19.79 It has been liked to low birth weight 00:26:19.82\00:26:21.50 as well as a variety of health and behavioral problems. 00:26:21.53\00:26:25.18 I would not encourage children to use caffeine, 00:26:25.21\00:26:27.75 again it's a stimulant 00:26:27.78\00:26:29.40 and I remember when I was working in the Marshal Islands, 00:26:29.43\00:26:31.82 I would see these little children 00:26:31.85\00:26:34.05 probably, one to two years of age, 00:26:34.08\00:26:37.16 they would be running around 00:26:37.19\00:26:38.82 and they would a can of caffeinated soda pop 00:26:38.85\00:26:41.68 in their hand and they would be drinking that. 00:26:41.71\00:26:44.14 And sometimes, later on in the evening, 00:26:44.17\00:26:47.76 when I would have to go back to the hospital 00:26:47.79\00:26:49.96 late at night to see a patient, 00:26:49.99\00:26:53.20 I was see these little kids running around, wide awake, 00:26:53.23\00:26:56.63 they were wired from the caffeine 00:26:56.66\00:26:57.97 which they had earlier in the day. 00:26:58.00\00:26:59.51 So if you want your children to be nice 00:26:59.54\00:27:02.66 and cooperative and raise them, 00:27:02.69\00:27:04.89 so that they will be obedient and loving and responsive, 00:27:04.92\00:27:09.05 you really want to keep them away from caffeine. 00:27:09.08\00:27:12.08 So be safe, treat your body right 00:27:12.11\00:27:14.59 and fill yourself with plenty of good, old fashioned water. 00:27:14.62\00:27:18.61 Which naturally increases brain function and energy. 00:27:18.64\00:27:22.49 Your
