Yes. 00:12:50.52\00:12:51.98 You know, lot of our viewers know 00:12:52.01\00:12:54.99 who you are and many of them don't, 00:12:55.02\00:12:57.57 so I just like to talk about you 00:12:57.60\00:12:59.19 for just maybe a minute. 00:12:59.22\00:13:00.94 And I know you don't like to do this 00:13:00.97\00:13:02.39 but I-- it's my request. 00:13:02.42\00:13:05.55 So you have been here-- Okay. 00:13:05.58\00:13:08.50 You've been here 00:13:08.53\00:13:09.62 at the Newstart program for 25 years. 00:13:09.65\00:13:14.89 And I know that you go to Africa 00:13:14.92\00:13:18.15 now and then and you have a clinic there 00:13:18.18\00:13:21.64 that you've been ministering 00:13:21.67\00:13:22.92 through the African nationals for 40 years or how long is it? 00:13:22.95\00:13:29.02 Well, it was 15 years where we were in Africa 15 00:13:29.05\00:13:32.51 before we came here so it's going on then, yeah. 00:13:32.54\00:13:35.22 Yeah, it's about 40 years. 00:13:35.25\00:13:37.75 And I also have heard you 00:13:37.78\00:13:39.66 speak of the African nation as you know them. 00:13:39.69\00:13:44.82 Nations, yeah. 00:13:44.85\00:13:45.93 Yeah, nations have very few heart attacks 00:13:45.96\00:13:51.97 or cardio vascular events. 00:13:52.00\00:13:54.48 Yeah, of all kinds of things. 00:13:54.51\00:13:57.08 If they are in out there doing what they need to do, 00:13:57.11\00:14:01.09 they're not gonna survive. 00:14:01.12\00:14:03.12 So even traumatic injuries 00:14:03.15\00:14:09.00 and all kinds of stuff that you think 00:14:09.03\00:14:10.74 well, that persons is not ever gonna be 00:14:10.77\00:14:12.72 able to use that extremity again. 00:14:12.75\00:14:14.94 They do whatever they have to do. 00:14:14.97\00:14:17.72 They are still there, they are amazing. 00:14:17.75\00:14:19.20 Yeah, it really is amazing. 00:14:19.23\00:14:20.70 We don't see more of this in the media. 00:14:20.73\00:14:23.22 I mean, how other countries live a healthy style 00:14:23.25\00:14:28.40 because of what they eat and the exercise they do. 00:14:28.43\00:14:31.59 Well, then on the other hand you know, 00:14:31.62\00:14:33.31 people are gonna say, well, I saw pictures of those, 00:14:33.34\00:14:36.51 that women and the children and they look like sticks 00:14:36.54\00:14:39.42 and I'm never gonna look like that. 00:14:39.45\00:14:40.98 You see, the thing is that there is all this ethnics, 00:14:41.01\00:14:45.72 cleansing and all these fights 00:14:45.75\00:14:47.48 and stuff going on and they will just, 00:14:47.51\00:14:49.98 you know, whole groups of people 00:14:50.01\00:14:51.68 who'd be just starved to death 00:14:51.71\00:14:53.02 and then their children those plants based food 00:14:53.05\00:14:56.70 that they are eating are very healthy for them 00:14:56.73\00:14:59.24 but they don't understand sanitation. 00:14:59.27\00:15:01.00 So they'll have diarrhea with blood in, 00:15:01.03\00:15:02.67 maybe four, five, eight times 00:15:02.70\00:15:04.92 by the time they are two years of age. 00:15:04.95\00:15:06.97 That they can't recover from that 00:15:07.00\00:15:08.84 and then all the parasites and everything so, 00:15:08.87\00:15:11.35 no, it's not their diets, it's not their lifestyle, 00:15:11.38\00:15:14.22 it's that they don't understand, 00:15:14.25\00:15:16.50 you know, how to take care of themselves 00:15:16.53\00:15:18.01 as far as that goes. 00:15:18.04\00:15:19.69 Okay, well, forgive me for taking 00:15:19.72\00:15:23.15 so much time about Africa, 00:15:23.18\00:15:25.90 your past but I like to talk about Trini now. 00:15:25.93\00:15:29.68 Trini got here, she was in a wheel chair, 00:15:29.71\00:15:34.55 I don't know that she can even walk. 00:15:34.58\00:15:37.39 But I remember asking her to come for the first interview 00:15:37.42\00:15:41.74 which we just saw and I met her up at the lodge 00:15:41.77\00:15:48.46 which is about a 100 yards from the clinic, 00:15:48.49\00:15:51.43 and says I'll meet you at the clinic. 00:15:51.46\00:15:53.31 I went back down to the clinic 00:15:53.34\00:15:54.99 and 20 minutes later she wasn't there. 00:15:55.02\00:15:57.99 So I started to go up and she was about half way. 00:15:58.02\00:16:01.73 She was trying to walk. Yeah, yeah. 00:16:01.76\00:16:04.91 Can you tell me what has transpired now? 00:16:04.94\00:16:07.65 Has she able to walk, has she done with the wheel chair. 00:16:07.68\00:16:11.85 You know, first of all what is her problem? 00:16:11.88\00:16:15.73 Multiple sclerosis and most people know it as MS. 00:16:15.76\00:16:20.80 We don't know in medicine everything 00:16:20.83\00:16:22.86 that we'd like to know and anyway that's a disease 00:16:22.89\00:16:28.87 that probably it's autoimmune. 00:16:28.90\00:16:32.10 There's something to do with body attacking itself, 00:16:32.13\00:16:36.06 it's kind of like the insulation on the wires. 00:16:36.09\00:16:39.01 Our nerves are our wires 00:16:39.04\00:16:41.37 and when that's off, then you can see 00:16:41.40\00:16:46.00 it's kind of like short-circuiting them. 00:16:46.03\00:16:48.39 And if a person, you know, just kind of settles down 00:16:48.42\00:16:52.31 and takes all the medications 00:16:52.34\00:16:53.76 and stuff that they can 00:16:53.79\00:16:54.82 then probably they will be in a wheel chair. 00:16:54.85\00:16:58.77 Maybe in five years 00:16:58.80\00:17:00.89 one of my schoolmates in college 00:17:00.92\00:17:03.40 he dies after 10, 15 years, 00:17:03.43\00:17:06.46 wheel chairs and bedfast and then the other. 00:17:06.49\00:17:10.90 There's other ones where the body attacks itself. 00:17:10.93\00:17:13.35 A systemic lupus erythematosus, that's where the body-- 00:17:13.38\00:17:19.09 we've had more experience with that, 00:17:19.12\00:17:20.81 we've had some experience with the MS as well. 00:17:20.84\00:17:23.74 But we can just tell people with that 00:17:23.77\00:17:27.32 as they do this lifestyle changes 00:17:27.35\00:17:31.00 especially when they become totally vegan 00:17:31.03\00:17:33.94 and in two years they can be off 00:17:33.97\00:17:35.49 of all their medications. 00:17:35.52\00:17:38.16 The test turnout normal and they can just say, 00:17:38.19\00:17:42.79 well, I used to have it, which is you know, 00:17:42.82\00:17:46.10 that's not something that you can say. 00:17:46.13\00:17:48.06 With MS it's a little bit different, 00:17:48.09\00:17:51.50 it's actually more severe in many respects 00:17:51.53\00:17:55.77 and the thing is that 00:17:55.80\00:17:57.93 they are into health food stores 00:17:57.96\00:18:01.78 and this kind of stuff they've some stuff down 00:18:01.81\00:18:04.35 and just outside the bay area there. 00:18:04.38\00:18:07.74 And it's very interesting 00:18:07.77\00:18:08.99 because she was doing all this stuff 00:18:09.02\00:18:11.39 and she was on a really good program, 00:18:11.42\00:18:16.15 they were eating their fruits and vegetables and pretty much, 00:18:16.18\00:18:20.93 you know, what we would say 00:18:20.96\00:18:23.16 may be almost vegan vegetarian anyway 00:18:23.19\00:18:26.33 and then she's 25 years out you see. 00:18:26.36\00:18:30.19 Yeah, that's a no, no. 00:18:30.22\00:18:31.32 So I asked her, I said, how did you get, 00:18:31.35\00:18:35.86 how're you still functioning at 25 years. 00:18:35.89\00:18:39.63 Now the medical community knows that they go into remission 00:18:39.66\00:18:43.45 and then they exacerbates again and they get bad and so forth. 00:18:43.48\00:18:47.44 So that's not so impressive to rheumatology and so forth. 00:18:47.47\00:18:53.98 But hers was and then when she was told, 00:18:54.01\00:18:57.57 hey, you've to get some really good proteins, 00:18:57.60\00:19:00.19 you've got to go to the animal products, 00:19:00.22\00:19:01.81 you've got to eat some of the flesh foods 00:19:01.84\00:19:03.96 to get a really good protein 00:19:03.99\00:19:06.83 so that your body can be healthy. 00:19:06.86\00:19:09.40 And when she started doing that, 00:19:09.43\00:19:11.31 she just started going down faster and faster. 00:19:11.34\00:19:15.38 So with her MS as we've seen other people 00:19:15.41\00:19:19.37 kind of progress once they've come here 00:19:19.40\00:19:23.26 and I've seen some progress with her. 00:19:23.29\00:19:25.72 Make progress, you mean not progress in their disease. 00:19:25.75\00:19:28.87 Yes, that's what I meant. 00:19:28.90\00:19:30.26 Yeah, thank you for clearing that. 00:19:30.29\00:19:33.96 Do you see her someday not needing a walker? 00:19:33.99\00:19:38.04 Can she reach that point? 00:19:38.07\00:19:40.32 We know it was very interesting 00:19:40.35\00:19:41.65 because at first, you know, she's a very resilient person 00:19:41.68\00:19:46.35 and she doesn't just complain all the time, 00:19:46.38\00:19:49.40 you caught that for me too. 00:19:49.43\00:19:50.46 Yeah, yeah. 00:19:50.49\00:19:51.53 She tries to be happy and that be 00:19:51.56\00:19:53.82 but the thing is that 00:19:53.85\00:19:55.50 what was so interesting about her 00:19:55.53\00:19:58.06 was that she was now getting to the place 00:19:58.09\00:20:01.79 where she was giving up hope 00:20:01.82\00:20:03.11 because she thought she was doing the right thing, 00:20:03.14\00:20:06.31 but she was doing this, she said, you know, 00:20:06.34\00:20:11.24 I can move my head more now and my muscles 00:20:11.27\00:20:13.91 and yes, she was actually able to start walking 00:20:13.94\00:20:17.89 and she would have to sit down sometimes 00:20:17.92\00:20:19.70 but you know her whole spirits lifted in 00:20:19.73\00:20:23.03 and her husband was happier too, you know. 00:20:23.06\00:20:25.39 Her husband, I'm so glad he was here, 00:20:25.42\00:20:28.24 he was a good support and she's done so well, 00:20:28.27\00:20:31.92 and we will follow up with her 00:20:31.95\00:20:34.67 and encourage her in anyway we can. 00:20:34.70\00:20:38.93 Now there's a website to people if they want to know 00:20:38.96\00:20:41.76 what is all this stuff and everything, 00:20:41.79\00:20:44.43 John McDougall, he's in this 00:20:44.46\00:20:46.68 and Bay Area over in Santa Rosa and so forth. 00:20:46.71\00:20:51.03 On his website he talks about MS 00:20:51.06\00:20:53.84 and there is something called Swank, Swank diet. 00:20:53.87\00:20:58.91 And people are following that 00:20:58.94\00:21:00.56 and he's followed some of them 00:21:00.59\00:21:02.30 for 35 plus years and that's amazing. 00:21:02.33\00:21:10.22 We've seen Dr. McDougall 00:21:10.25\00:21:12.60 and we've heard many of his lectures. 00:21:12.63\00:21:15.49 There's also another doctor, Dr. McGregor 00:21:15.52\00:21:18.45 where you could go to his website-- 00:21:18.48\00:21:21.69 And he talks about MS as well? 00:21:21.72\00:21:23.50 Oh, he talks about everything under the sun. 00:21:23.53\00:21:27.08 And not just from a doctor's point of view 00:21:27.11\00:21:29.23 but more of a scientific point of view. 00:21:29.26\00:21:33.31 It generally equates to 00:21:33.34\00:21:35.38 and not limited to just lifestyle 00:21:35.41\00:21:38.81 but basically lifestyle. 00:21:38.84\00:21:41.28 Doctor, I want to take this last moment 00:21:41.31\00:21:43.04 to thank you for coming on the program. 00:21:43.07\00:21:44.99 It's great. 00:21:45.02\00:21:46.05 That's always a blessing to see you here. 00:21:46.08\00:21:48.28 Thank you. 00:21:48.31\00:21:49.34 And don't go away friends 00:21:49.37\00:21:50.41 because Dr. Randy Bivens will be right with us 00:21:50.44\00:21:53.51 within an important tip. 00:21:53.54\00:21:55.08 Hi, I'm Dr. Randy Bivens. 00:22:01.17\00:22:03.58 Thomas Jefferson once wrote that, 00:22:03.61\00:22:05.68 "Nothing can stop the man 00:22:05.71\00:22:07.19 with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal." 00:22:07.22\00:22:10.35 Nothing on earth can help the man 00:22:10.38\00:22:12.50 with the wrong mental attitude. 00:22:12.53\00:22:15.03 More currently, the popular motivational speakers 00:22:15.06\00:22:18.26 Zig Ziglar said, "It's not your aptitude 00:22:18.29\00:22:21.64 but your attitude that determines your altitude." 00:22:21.67\00:22:26.52 Attitude, there are literally thousands of studies 00:22:26.55\00:22:29.62 and articles discussing the impact attitude has 00:22:29.65\00:22:32.86 on aging and longevity. 00:22:32.89\00:22:35.02 In a review of 160 published medical studies 00:22:35.05\00:22:38.79 it was shown that people had a positive mental attitude 00:22:38.82\00:22:42.28 enjoyed better health and longer lives. 00:22:42.31\00:22:46.13 This link between positive mindset, 00:22:46.16\00:22:48.97 better health, and longer lifespan 00:22:49.00\00:22:51.35 was actually shown to be stronger 00:22:51.38\00:22:54.18 than the link between obesity, and reduced lifespan. 00:22:54.21\00:22:58.93 Let's look at some examples 00:22:58.96\00:23:00.81 of how our attitude can affect us. 00:23:00.84\00:23:03.43 One medical study looked at the relationship 00:23:03.46\00:23:05.89 between anger and heart disease. 00:23:05.92\00:23:08.14 The participants who demonstrated more anger 00:23:08.17\00:23:11.31 were found to have 2.7 times more heart disease 00:23:11.34\00:23:15.44 than the calmer participants. 00:23:15.47\00:23:18.22 Another study found that people 00:23:18.25\00:23:20.03 who often felt anxious, unhappy 00:23:20.06\00:23:22.68 or depressed were twice as likely 00:23:22.71\00:23:25.15 to have high blood pressure. 00:23:25.18\00:23:27.43 And in yet another study feelings of frustration, 00:23:27.46\00:23:30.18 tension and sadness were associated 00:23:30.21\00:23:32.71 with a doubled risk of ischemic heart disease. 00:23:32.74\00:23:36.44 Increased rates of heart attack were found in those 00:23:36.47\00:23:38.91 who tend to worry with the heaviest worriers 00:23:38.94\00:23:41.76 increasing their risk for heart attack 00:23:41.79\00:23:43.72 by two and a half times. 00:23:43.75\00:23:46.46 The evidence is clear 00:23:46.49\00:23:48.04 when we consider this alarming numbers, 00:23:48.07\00:23:50.48 it is much easier to recognize the pure 00:23:50.51\00:23:53.15 and positive value of the serenity prayer. 00:23:53.18\00:23:56.61 The serenity prayer simply asks God 00:23:56.64\00:23:59.15 to grant me the serenity 00:23:59.18\00:24:01.41 to accept the things I cannot change; 00:24:01.44\00:24:04.42 courage to change the things I can; 00:24:04.45\00:24:07.73 and wisdom to know the difference. 00:24:07.76\00:24:10.32 So what can we do to brighten our outlook on life? 00:24:10.35\00:24:14.17 What can we do to improve our attitudes 00:24:14.20\00:24:16.41 and in return gain more thriving 00:24:16.44\00:24:18.77 and fulfilling years of life? 00:24:18.80\00:24:22.30 Wake up early. 00:24:22.33\00:24:23.95 By getting up early we can get 00:24:23.98\00:24:25.56 a head start on our daily tasks. 00:24:25.59\00:24:28.47 That will reduce our stress. 00:24:28.50\00:24:30.40 We'll also have time for healthy breakfast, 00:24:30.43\00:24:32.78 improving both our world view and our health 00:24:32.81\00:24:36.25 at the very beginning of our day. 00:24:36.28\00:24:39.02 Exercise will do your brain and body a lot of good. 00:24:39.05\00:24:43.18 Nature has been shown to have 00:24:43.21\00:24:44.56 a calming influence on you psyche. 00:24:44.59\00:24:47.24 So spend some active time outdoors, 00:24:47.27\00:24:49.92 enjoying the natural beauty that God has created. 00:24:49.95\00:24:54.69 Plan ahead. 00:24:54.72\00:24:56.02 When you know what you're planning 00:24:56.05\00:24:57.53 to achieve in a given day a week, 00:24:57.56\00:24:59.69 you will have less stress. 00:24:59.72\00:25:01.74 By the way this works particularly well 00:25:01.77\00:25:04.86 if you remember to wake up early. 00:25:04.89\00:25:08.13 Understand that things often do not go according to plan. 00:25:08.16\00:25:12.17 Yes, planning ahead is good 00:25:12.20\00:25:13.99 but when something doesn't workout as planned, 00:25:14.02\00:25:16.73 it's important to view the situation 00:25:16.76\00:25:18.83 as an opportunity rather than a road block. 00:25:18.86\00:25:23.83 Get spiritually connected. 00:25:23.86\00:25:25.85 As we've shown in earlier videos 00:25:25.88\00:25:28.41 having a relationship with God 00:25:28.44\00:25:30.63 and being involved at church 00:25:30.66\00:25:32.14 plays significant roles in overall mental attitude 00:25:32.17\00:25:35.10 and can significantly add to your lifespan. 00:25:35.13\00:25:39.60 Be thankful. 00:25:39.63\00:25:41.43 Have you ever heard the phrase, 00:25:41.46\00:25:42.82 "When life feeds you waves, learn how to surf." 00:25:42.85\00:25:47.16 No matter what we can always find things to be thankful for. 00:25:47.19\00:25:51.37 Try spending less time focusing on yourself 00:25:51.40\00:25:54.73 and more time focusing on others. 00:25:54.76\00:25:57.67 This sort of outward thinking can go far 00:25:57.70\00:26:01.27 in improving your own mental health. 00:26:01.30\00:26:04.29 Spend time around positive people. 00:26:04.32\00:26:07.42 Perhaps it goes without saying 00:26:07.45\00:26:08.98 but we often mirror 00:26:09.01\00:26:10.65 the emotions of those around us. 00:26:10.68\00:26:13.65 Consider who you surround yourself with. 00:26:13.68\00:26:16.33 Make the conscious decision to be around people 00:26:16.36\00:26:18.93 who add cheer and love to your life. 00:26:18.96\00:26:22.47 Solomon, an ancient king of Israel 00:26:22.50\00:26:24.66 and widely thought to be the wisest man 00:26:24.69\00:26:26.56 to have ever lived once wrote, 00:26:26.59\00:26:28.64 "A joyful heart is good medicine." 00:26:28.67\00:26:32.69 He reiterate this later writing, 00:26:32.72\00:26:34.79 "For the happy heart, life is a continual feast." 00:26:34.82\00:26:39.99 In our goal to live longer and more fulfilling lives, 00:26:40.02\00:26:44.02 attitude maybe the most powerful medicine 00:26:44.05\00:26:47.37 that I as a physician can prescribe. 00:26:47.40\00:26:52.67 You're killing me. 00:26:52.70\00:26:54.10 You're killing me. 00:26:57.34\00:26:59.07 Actually, Dad, you are killing yourself. 00:26:59.10\00:27:00.89 With the only program scientifically proven 00:27:03.83\00:27:05.94 to prolong life by 10 years, 00:27:05.97\00:27:07.82 the Newstart Lifestyle Program 00:27:07.85\00:27:09.46 can significantly decrease the risk of disease, 00:27:09.49\00:27:11.92 including diabetes. 00:27:11.95\00:27:13.39 You're done with that?
