00:12 Every year in America
00:13 there are over one million deaths 00:15 because of type 2 diabetes and chronic obesity. 00:18 This includes heart attacks and strokes. 00:20 That's six and half 747 crashing everyday. 00:23 What's even more surprising is that the fix is easy. 00:27 It's your lifestyle. 00:28 Wouldn't it be nice if you could actually 00:30 add quality years to your life 00:32 rather than dying a one organ at a time? 00:35 Obesity and diabetes are the cause 00:36 of over million deaths per year. 00:39 Most diseases are reversible 00:41 because most diseases are lifestyle diseases, 00:44 especially type 2 diabetes and chronic obesity. 00:47 Seriously now they can be reversed 00:50 in the quality of your life can be renewed. 00:53 Call Newstart today at 1-800-525-9192. 00:59 You will see dramatic changes 01:01 in the first few days of the program 01:03 and you'll be on the road 01:04 to a better more robust quality of life. 01:07 The Newstart programs are simple and effective. 01:13 Hi, friends and welcome 01:14 to another addition of New Start Now, 01:17 I'm your host Ron Giannoni, 01:19 in our studio we have a lovely young lady 01:22 by the name of Gina Estrada. 01:25 But before I introduce you to her 01:27 let's take a look at the clip 01:29 when she first arrived at the Newstart program. 01:34 I mainly came here to New Start, 01:37 because I wanted my husband to get off 01:40 some of the medications that he have been taking. 01:43 I didn't like the information 01:45 we're getting from local doctors, 01:48 yet several doctors no one really talk to each other 01:52 and they were all treating him differently 01:54 and I've just seen his health 01:56 over the last few years kind of decline. 01:58 And when he told me he wanted to work another 15 years 02:01 I thought, I better do something about it. 02:04 Getting married and having my last child 02:07 and working in a sedentary job now 02:09 and so I found myself sitting down most of the time 02:12 in restaurants entertaining clients. 02:14 So, I really want to get back to the athletic self 02:21 and being healthy and being able to move around 02:23 and look good in my clothes, 02:25 feel good in my skin and do the things that 02:30 I know that I can't do that 02:31 I haven't being doing for quite a while. 02:33 Health challenges for me would be gaining weight 02:37 and not being able to balance 02:40 a good exercise program with working, 02:43 with taking care of the family, 02:45 with eating, just really struggling with what to eat, 02:49 when to eat and how to eat and I know I knew in my heart 02:53 that there had to be a better way. 02:55 I guess mainly what I'm looking for here is 02:58 to leave with a solid plan for the rest of my life. 03:03 Welcome back friends, and as I promise Gina, 03:07 thank you for joining us. 03:08 You're welcome. 03:09 You look a little different 03:10 than when you're first got here. 03:12 Yeah. 03:13 Do you feel different? Absolutely. 03:14 How so? 03:16 Well, today I got my measurements 03:18 and I've lost four inches in my waist 03:20 and four inches in my hips. 03:22 Wow. Yeah. 03:24 Four inches? Yes, that's very exciting. 03:26 Yeah. 03:27 Because in the past in dieting 03:30 I would just starve myself to death 03:32 and not get any inches on the waist or the hips, 03:35 you know, and it just amazing that it just kind of fell off, 03:37 I left it out there on the trails somewhere. 03:39 You know that Dr. Lukens tells a story, 03:43 we had a lady that came through the program 03:45 she did not loose one pound but lost four dress sizes. 03:51 Yeah, that's exciting. 03:52 So, you're heading that direction, 03:53 you're gonna do both though. 03:55 How much weight have you lost since we bought that as you up? 03:57 Well, I weighed this afternoon but I think I lost ten pounds. 04:00 All right, that's surprising. Yes, very excited. 04:04 And I know that you're here for the same reason 04:07 my wife came with me that was to support 04:11 your husband Bob is that correct? 04:13 Yes, absolutely. 04:14 You didn't have many issues? 04:16 I didn't have many medical issues 04:18 except for being overweight 04:20 and I didn't want to end up there. 04:22 So, I didn't want end up 04:23 with diabetes or heart diseases. 04:25 Both my parents have heart diseases 04:27 and my father has diabetes so I didn't want it, 04:30 so I needed to make a change as well as support my husband. 04:33 You're kind of did that? Definitely. 04:35 A heart diseases and diabetes. Yes. 04:37 You know we met a couple of days ago, 04:39 I mean trying to catch up with you in the last 16 days 04:43 but we met a couple of days ago 04:45 and Bob and you and I talked about 04:48 eating out in restaurants 04:50 which having a business you ate out a lot 04:54 and you are kind of comparing notes, 04:57 how much money do you think you will save by, 05:03 by not having the kinds of rut of lunches 05:06 that you used to have and I mean 05:08 you know the wine may be martini, 05:10 the stakes and all that. 05:12 Yes entertaining clients are something 05:14 we definitely do almost on a daily bases 05:16 so I believe will save $12,000 to $15,000 in one year. 05:21 In one year of the trail. 05:23 Yeah, which my husband and I talked about 05:24 spending on our new gym equipment. 05:26 There you go. For our new gym in our home. 05:28 So, that's exciting. 05:29 You're gonna be able to equip 05:31 that gym very well with $12,000- $15,000. 05:34 Definitely. I know. 05:35 Yeah. 05:36 So, what part of the program-- 05:38 I'm gonna ask you two questions 05:40 what part of the program that you like the most 05:44 and how do you feel that you've learned about 05:47 cooking vegetarian type foods sufficiently enough. 05:53 Yes, the cooking classes are wonderful. 05:55 I kind of started doing little research 05:57 in testing some recipes out before we came. 05:59 But now I am even more excited about all the new recipes 06:02 and ways of preparing food that I learned here, 06:05 Michelle Owen is a great teacher 06:08 and she is just so joyful and excited 06:11 and energetic and so it makes it fun 06:13 to look forward to getting home and making some meals. 06:17 The part I enjoyed most about the program 06:20 is giving my self the time to walk 06:24 and workout and just focus on myself 06:27 because at home you know my husband and I 06:29 take care of a lot of clients, 06:30 we take care of a lot of family members 06:32 we just take care of people all the time 06:34 and we forget about taking care of ourself. 06:36 And that's what Newstart is really 06:37 about focusing on you and your lifestyle 06:41 and taking the time to get your head straight. 06:45 What are you gonna do when you get home 06:47 and your friends go, 06:49 Gina, what happened, did you get a face lift? 06:52 What happened did you-- are you on a diet? 06:54 What are you gonna say? 06:56 Well Dr. Lukens gave us a little bit ammunition 07:00 last night to just go home and say you know 07:02 well, I went on a retreat and it was great. 07:04 Right. 07:05 And really if they're really interested 07:07 in finding out what we did, 07:09 you know I will sit down and talk to them about it 07:11 but I'm not just gonna go home and try to-- 07:14 And convert everybody. Right, right. 07:16 You know, I'm gonna do it by example, 07:18 I'm gonna do it by fixing healthy meals 07:20 and having people come over for dinner 07:22 and actually taste how good the food is. 07:25 Yeah, you know that was good advice. 07:27 I did the opposite. 07:28 I was bound and determined 07:30 to get everybody I know to come here 07:33 and so they kind of shut me off. 07:34 So, I stopped doing that and we went to a large party, 07:41 number of people where at the party 07:42 it wasn't our last New Years party with a alcoholic friends, 07:48 not that they are all alcoholic but they drink alcohol. 07:50 I don't anymore, I stopped. 07:53 And they thought we are rather boring at the time, 07:57 but they had all these questions about 08:00 how we loose all these weight? 08:01 What are we doing? How do we eat? 08:04 How do we survive? 08:06 You're not eating meat or chicken or fish. 08:09 Wow, you're gonna die. 08:11 How do you feel about those things 08:13 as far as proteins and such? 08:15 I'm just gonna simply say you can get all the protein 08:19 and all the nutrition you need from eating whole foods whole, 08:22 like we've learnt here 08:24 and again learning just by example. 08:27 Exactly. 08:28 And you know they can come 08:29 and taste food that I've prepared 08:32 and you know I think the whole family is going to, 08:35 to get onboard just without us 08:37 really having to try to convert anybody. 08:40 I think they're gonna see the change, 08:41 like we saw a change in our mentoring coming here. 08:45 A gentleman that leaves in our city 08:47 came here couple of years back 08:49 and my husband and I were returning from a trip 08:51 and we are in the airport and we ran past him 08:53 and I had to stop and take a double take. 08:55 That's Gary. 08:56 Gary, yeah, to see him 08:57 and I ran and I said Bob, is that Gary? 09:00 And he is like yeah, I think he is. 09:02 We ran over, I gave a big hug 09:03 and we said oh my goodness what have you done? 09:06 Because he lost 100 pounds, his skin was glowing, 09:11 he-- just tells this personality was bubbling over 09:14 and we had to find out what he did so. 09:17 Yeah, that's great. 09:19 Now I know that you're pleased with what's happen with Bob, 09:24 he is gotten off some medications, 09:26 he is, I see a new hope what-- 09:30 tell me about your vision of hope 09:33 since you've been here for not just yourself 09:37 but particularly Bob, 09:38 because that's the main reason you came here. 09:40 Right, you know Bob is such a loving person 09:44 and he is just got a great personality 09:47 and we have a lot of friends 09:48 we've a lot of people that care about us and especially Bob. 09:51 And just taking the medications over the last 16 years 09:55 I've seen a difference in him. 09:57 The medications were slowing him down 09:59 and you know making him feel sick. 10:01 And he just didn't have that energy 10:03 and drive that he used to have. 10:04 And so that's one thing that he's gotten back here 10:08 is getting off the diabetes medication 10:11 giving him a little bit more energy, 10:12 I see a difference already 10:14 and it's just gonna get that much more exciting 10:15 when we go home and you can get off 10:17 the blood pressure medication as he starts to exercise more 10:21 and we could start doing that together. 10:24 I know he's gonna be in good hands between the two, 10:27 you two wonderful people. 10:29 I know the Lord will provide the energy 10:32 and whatever is necessary including me calling, 10:35 I promised him that I would stay in touch with him 10:39 and I will you as well and so between now 10:43 and then if you have any difficulties 10:46 you know you could feel free to call here 10:49 one of the doctors will return your call 10:52 if you call me I'll return your call 10:55 and we will help you if it's necessary 10:58 but it sounds to me like you're on track. 11:00 Yeah, I really appreciate that everyone needs a good coach. 11:03 Oh yeah, yeah and I try to be, 11:07 not just for you folks, 11:09 this is a service that we've recently provided 11:12 because we saw that our numbers 11:14 weren't as good as we'd like them to be meaning 11:18 the number of people who may stay with the program. 11:22 So we figured well Dr. Lukens 11:24 actually came up with this idea. 11:26 We have to have someone follow-up 11:28 and inspire and you know 11:31 what is necessary break out the hammer. 11:34 That's right. And I'm a good hammer. 11:36 On a little nudge to keep them going. 11:38 Give them little nudge, some love, 11:40 some attention which we all enjoy. 11:44 So, I look forward to chat with you 11:46 and I want to thank you for coming into the studio 11:50 and opening up your heart and sharing with us, 11:54 what your intentions are for the future 11:57 and the fact that you now have hope. 11:59 Absolutely, thank you hopefully you see less of me. 12:00 Thank you so much. Less of you more the time. 12:04 Right. I like that line. 12:06 And friends, thank you for joining us don't go away 12:09 we have a tip for you followed 12:11 by an interview with Dr. Lukens. 12:15 Be right back. 12:49 Welcome back friends, and as I promised Dr. Lukens. 12:52 How are you? It's always a pleasure. 12:54 It's always good to see you. 12:56 And this time we have a husband and a wife 12:59 who came two together. 13:00 You know that's the very, very best way 13:03 because sometimes the one spouse comes 13:08 in they're all excited when they go home 13:11 and the other one goes-- 13:14 What are you talking about? 13:17 Well, you know my wife came with me 13:19 so I'm all about husbands and wives coming together 13:24 because how in the world-- 13:26 recently I talked about this my wife, 13:29 how could I go back home after 18 days and tried to explain 13:34 what I learned here its impossible. 13:36 Yeah, I know you can't. 13:37 Now I want to talk about-- 13:38 And they also didn't see the other people 13:40 or in a group with you and what happen to them. 13:42 That's right. 13:44 Yeah, and this is a family by the time 13:46 we get through like tonight. 13:48 Oh, we were just-- 13:49 Yeah, we're gonna be all together there 13:51 and pair be laughing and crying and sharing. 13:54 And sharing all that kind of-- 13:55 And they want to stay in touch with each other it's great. 13:57 Absolutely. 13:58 But I bet there's a lot of people 14:01 who are watching this know we're also "like a fat firm." 14:06 And I use that term loosely, 14:08 I use it only because a lot of places call themselves that 14:12 and here Gina has come to... 14:15 the Newstart program to support Bob, 14:19 her husband and she realizes 14:21 she lost four inches and eight to ten pounds 14:26 and I could see that glow in her eye 14:28 all of the sudden like hey, 14:30 I'm gonna be young and pretty again 14:32 and that's important for all of us. 14:34 You know, I mean, we want to look our best. 14:39 You know I had the pleasure of visiting with Jim Brackett, 14:43 who used to be our VP here. 14:45 And every time Jim and I get together 14:48 as you and I do a lot, we talk about obesity, 14:53 we talk about cholesterol, 14:55 triglycerides and Jim said to me, 14:57 you know, have you had 14:58 any check lately as I don't need to. 15:01 I live in-- lead a vegan lifestyle and I don't slip. 15:05 He says well, you know have you cut up all excess fat 15:11 and I says well-- you know also I'll have this 15:14 or that meaning Cindy might spray the can or such 15:19 but when he left I said the Cindy I said that's it, 15:22 I'm eliminating all excess fat. 15:26 Even to the point I start my almond butter, 15:29 peanut butter whatever any spreads 15:33 of any kind oils none, nothing. 15:36 I've been eating real clean and I lost eight pounds. 15:39 And whole plant foods. Whole plant fruits eaten. 15:42 Eaten. Eaten. 15:44 Now last part is really-- 15:46 its very difficult but you know my wife and I 15:49 talk about this and I tell it to the group, 15:52 it's that comes in each time, it never comes to the place 15:56 where oil doesn't taste good and never comes to the place 16:00 where sugar is awful and sickening 16:04 but you know you have to gag this things 16:06 that never is our way, but when you're off of it 16:10 and when you're away from it for a period of, 16:14 you know, weeks and months. 16:17 You don't you don't miss it. 16:19 I don't miss. 16:20 And when you get some oil in like you're at a potluck 16:22 and you're, and you're getting a salad 16:24 that has like tabbouleh or something like that 16:27 and they put the oil and hey, we got to get this recipe 16:30 and you say oh yes, it's the oil. 16:34 It's the oil. 16:35 But most the time, you know, 16:36 and I can truly say that sometimes 16:41 when you go to a restaurant and stuff like that 16:44 and people are eating pizza and so forth, 16:46 I haven't been for a while but I used to-- 16:49 when I go into a restaurant 16:51 and they didn't have a vegan pizza, 16:54 I would get something like garlic chips 16:56 and the people would eat the part 16:57 that had a cheese on it, 16:59 now I try to get just the crust. 17:01 And you know and truly when I ate the cheese 17:04 it just tasted greasy it didn't, 17:06 it didn't taste like-- 17:07 Yeah, yeah I can't enjoy like I used to. 17:08 Yeah. 17:09 And you know I mean not everybody 17:11 has to be a strict as this but if I tell you 17:13 the people that come here, this is like saving to them. 17:17 Well, that some point I want to talk about 17:19 just a little stronger with you 17:21 because if there are like me with having open heart surgery 17:27 or having a stunt put in 17:29 or having some sort of cardiovascular event 17:33 you've got a, you got to be more careful. 17:35 If you don't you are not going to be around very long 17:38 and I know that you've said that 17:40 to a number people in your lectures. 17:43 And the thing is, is it you know something was say, 17:46 oh, I got to go sometime but you know, 17:48 you don't just necessarily just check out 17:51 when the first thing happens, you know. 17:53 You may have to, you may have to suffer 17:56 for some years and you know I mean it's-- 18:01 like you see smokers are pushing the-- 18:03 caught around they got there bottle of oxygen 18:06 in there concentrated there and that's 18:08 you know and there is a lifestyle things-- 18:11 if they could do it over again. 18:12 Let's come back to Gina. 18:14 Yeah, you know I want to re-emphasize 18:18 the importance of keeping our weight down. 18:21 Now I don't know if you knew this 18:23 you probably do but I didn't know it 18:26 that she has heart disease in her family. 18:30 Yeah. And obesity. 18:33 Now, what significance does that place 18:36 on a girl or a guy her age, 18:40 I'm assuming she's around 50s 18:43 and are they more likely to get diabetes 18:47 if they continue the lifestyle 18:50 there on getting morbidly obese et cetera 18:53 or they likely to have a cardiovascular event 18:56 tell me about that. 18:58 Yeah, of course it is. 18:59 You know that sometime in the very near future 19:02 if it already hasn't happened, 19:04 cigarette smoking was the leading cause of death. 19:06 Not just lung cancer but all the things 19:09 that cigarette smoking 19:10 and now obesity very sooner is already done 19:13 it's passed a cigarette smoking 19:16 and that's a terrible thing because you know-- 19:18 It is a terrible thing but you know 19:20 something Jim told me and you can correct me 19:23 if this isn't totally accurate but the, 19:26 the viewers need to hear this. 19:28 If a plane goes down a 747 with 300 people on it, 19:34 you know you get front page advertised on the news 19:37 this and that the other thing. 19:39 The number of people who die 19:42 because of disease like heart disease and diabetes-- 19:45 Secondhand smoke. 19:47 Secondhand smoke would fill ten 747s a day. 19:54 Yes. 19:55 Its wow, when I said that just blows my mind 10 a day 20:01 and we don't see any front page ads about these things. 20:04 I don't think the media is even aware of it 20:07 or if they are somebody is squashing. 20:09 No, no they, you know but it just say 20:13 well they died of natural causes. 20:16 Yeah, its natural you're gonna die if you eat but yeah. 20:20 Now the other thing on Gina, she had tried to help him out 20:26 and I said well Bob, you're the only, 20:30 you're the only male that I know 20:32 that can take pain like a woman 20:33 it's delivered to baby and he just laughs. 20:36 He said I can, I can get into a position 20:39 where I don't have pain 20:40 but see we don't think of this sometimes with a caretaker is, 20:45 is suffering as much and sometimes 20:48 are suffering more because-- Absolutely. 20:50 You know, it's in the back of their mind, 20:52 my loved one is not doing what they could do 20:56 and they could be so much better. 20:58 We've have, we have two other people here 21:00 that have lost their significant other and so-- 21:03 one of them after a long illness you know 21:06 and frequently and we know this, 21:09 a caretaker goes first because its stress 21:11 it's on them before the person dies so. 21:14 Here was a big thing for her and its big thing for him 21:17 and now they're just they're thrilled. 21:19 And I see that Gina, 21:22 will support Bob like nobody else can. 21:27 She goes she's onboard, she's really thrilled. 21:29 Well, might she onboard, 21:31 'cause she had all these wonderful things 21:33 happen for her too. 21:34 Yeah, but she is seeing a change man. 21:37 She's says to me there's hope 21:41 and that's when I want to leave you with that thought 21:44 and I want to leave the viewers 21:45 with the same thought there is hope, 21:48 there is the feasibility, 21:51 the possibility and almost the assurance 21:55 that if we change our lifestyle God will bless-- 21:59 Exodus 15:26, "I am the Lord 22:02 Thy God who healeth thee." 22:03 Amen. 22:05 Well you know Doc, time is running out 22:08 I want to thank you once again for joining us 22:12 and thank you for the work you do here 22:14 at Newstart and abroad. 22:17 It's a pleasure to tell people this. 22:20 All right. Thank you for your help. 22:22 And thank you friends, but don't go away 22:24 we have a tip for you right now. 22:34 Hi, I'm doctor Randy Bivens. 22:37 In order to reach our goal of living to 120, 22:40 we must make several healthy choices. 22:43 One of these choices is the decision to exercise. 22:47 In fact, physical fitness 22:49 is the most important predictor for longevity. 22:54 According to the CDC 22:56 only 23 percent of Americans get any regular light 22:59 to moderate physical activity. 23:01 In light of this information is it any wonder 23:04 that we are in the middle of an obesity epidemic? 23:08 Regular physical activity decreases our risk 23:11 for many diseases including obesity, 23:14 high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, 23:17 stroke, diabetes, osteoporosis 23:21 many cancers, anxiety and depression. 23:25 And I'm going study which began in 1984 23:28 has been monitoring the difference 23:29 between two groups of people at Stanford University, 23:32 the ever runners and the never runners. 23:35 The health of these two groups has been tracked 23:38 for nearly three decades, not surprisingly 23:42 the data has shown that exercise is critical to health. 23:46 Over the years compared with the never exercisers, 23:49 people who exercise regularly 23:51 showed improved aerobic capacity, 23:54 better heart health, increase bone mass, 23:57 less inflammation, less physical disability 24:01 and even improved thinking learning and memory. 24:05 They also lived significantly longer. 24:09 However what most astounded the researchers was the fact 24:13 that the runners continue to have improved health 24:16 and longevity even if they converted 24:19 to less vigorous activity later in life. 24:22 By the 19th year of the study 15 % of the runners had died 24:27 compared to 34 percent of the non-runners. 24:31 Many people claim that they do not have enough time 24:34 in the day to exercise, 24:36 but let me reveal a little secret. 24:38 For every minute of exercise 24:41 you gain two minutes of longevity. 24:44 So, you just do a little borrowing. 24:47 You borrow from the future. 24:50 Take time to care for your body now 24:52 and it will pay off double in the future. 24:56 According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 24:58 the average American spends 25:00 2 hours and 45 minutes a day watching television, 25:04 however time spent participating in sports, 25:08 exercise or recreation was drastically less 25:12 the average being only 18 minutes a day. 25:16 The numbers speak for themselves. 25:18 We have enough time to take care of our bodies. 25:21 We see we need to prioritize. 25:24 There've been several studies 25:25 that show physical activity can help 25:27 prevent many types of cancer, 25:29 particularly colon and breast cancer. 25:32 Current cancer patients can also benefit from exercise. 25:36 For example the most physically active 25:39 breast cancer patients reduce their risk of cancer 25:42 related death and recurrence by up to 40%. 25:46 Increasing your physical activity 25:48 after the age of 50 has tremendous benefits. 25:52 Not only can it add two to four years to your life 25:55 but a recent study has shown that people 25:57 who remain physically active 26:00 remain disability free for an additional 5.7 years. 26:06 So you're not only live longer but the quality of your life 26:10 will be better for a longer period of time. 26:13 Of all the health habit choices we can make, 26:17 maintaining physical fitness is the most important. 26:22 In fact, given the choice between 26:25 quitting smoking or staying fit, 26:28 staying fit is slightly healthier 26:31 and would lead to a longer life span. 26:34 It has been shown that burning 26:36 as little as 500 calories per week 26:39 has positive health benefits. 26:41 That is the equivalent of walking 26:43 only five miles a week. 26:47 However this is a case of, 26:49 if a little is good more is better. 26:52 We recommend walking two to three miles a day, 26:55 six days a week. 26:57 That would bring an extra 1,800 calories per week. 27:01 You would gain significant health benefits 27:04 as we have described and be getting closer 27:07 to our goal of living to 120 year. 27:21 You're killing me. 27:26 You're killing me. 27:28 Actually dad, you're killing yourself. 27:32 With the only program scientifically 27:34 proven to prolong life by 10 years 27:36 the Newstart lifestyle program can significantly 27:39 decrease the risk of disease including diabetes. 27:42 Done with that? Think I am. 27:45 Go to newstart.com now to learn more 27:48 the Newstart lifestyle program, we bring you back to life. |
