Right, right. 00:07:14.35\00:07:16.55 You know, I'm gonna do it by example, 00:07:16.58\00:07:18.35 I'm gonna do it by fixing healthy meals 00:07:18.38\00:07:20.35 and having people come over for dinner 00:07:20.38\00:07:22.74 and actually taste how good the food is. 00:07:22.77\00:07:25.42 Yeah, you know that was good advice. 00:07:25.45\00:07:27.13 I did the opposite. 00:07:27.16\00:07:28.63 I was bound and determined 00:07:28.66\00:07:30.70 to get everybody I know to come here 00:07:30.73\00:07:33.19 and so they kind of shut me off. 00:07:33.22\00:07:34.87 So, I stopped doing that and we went to a large party, 00:07:34.90\00:07:41.13 number of people where at the party 00:07:41.16\00:07:42.72 it wasn't our last New Years party with a alcoholic friends, 00:07:42.75\00:07:48.60 not that they are all alcoholic but they drink alcohol. 00:07:48.63\00:07:50.95 I don't anymore, I stopped. 00:07:50.98\00:07:53.63 And they thought we are rather boring at the time, 00:07:53.66\00:07:57.78 but they had all these questions about 00:07:57.81\00:08:00.41 how we loose all these weight? 00:08:00.44\00:08:01.96 What are we doing? Whole plant fruits eaten. 00:15:39.74\00:15:42.03 Eaten. Eaten. 00:15:42.06\00:15:44.08 Now last part is really-- 00:15:44.11\00:15:46.03 its very difficult but you know my wife and I 00:15:46.06\00:15:49.08 talk about this and I tell it to the group, 00:15:49.11\00:15:52.46 it's that comes in each time, it never comes to the place 00:15:52.49\00:15:56.83 where oil doesn't taste good and never comes to the place 00:15:56.86\00:16:00.77 where sugar is awful and sickening 00:16:00.80\00:16:04.04 but you know you have to gag this things 00:16:04.07\00:16:06.77 that never is our way, but when you're off of it 00:16:06.80\00:16:09.97 and when you're away from it for a period of, 00:16:10.00\00:16:14.06 you know, weeks and months. 00:16:14.09\00:16:17.09 You don't you don't miss it. 00:16:17.12\00:16:19.17 I don't miss. 00:16:19.20\00:16:20.30 And when you get some oil in like you're at a potluck 00:16:20.33\00:16:22.77 and you're, and you're getting a salad 00:16:22.80\00:16:24.87 that has like tabbouleh or something like that 00:16:24.90\00:16:27.50 and they put the oil and hey, we got to get this recipe 00:16:27.53\00:16:30.10 and you say oh yes, it's the oil. 00:16:30.13\00:16:34.03 It's the oil. 00:16:34.06\00:16:35.19 But most the time, you know, 00:16:35.22\00:16:36.82 and I can truly say that sometimes 00:16:36.85\00:16:41.50 when you go to a restaurant and stuff like that 00:16:41.53\00:16:44.37 and people are eating pizza and so forth, 00:16:44.40\00:16:46.95 I haven't been for a while but I used to-- 00:16:46.98\00:16:49.81 when I go into a restaurant 00:16:49.84\00:16:51.10 and they didn't have a vegan pizza, 00:16:51.13\00:16:54.30 I would get something like garlic chips 00:16:54.33\00:16:56.12 and the people would eat the part 00:16:56.15\00:16:57.21 that had a cheese on it, 00:16:57.24\00:16:59.12 now I try to get just the crust. 00:16:59.15\00:17:01.59 And you know and truly when I ate the cheese 00:17:01.62\00:17:04.63 it just tasted greasy it didn't, 00:17:04.66\00:17:06.46 it didn't taste like-- 00:17:06.49\00:17:07.55 Yeah, yeah I can't enjoy like I used to. 00:17:07.58\00:17:08.69 Yeah. 00:17:08.72\00:17:09.75 And you know I mean not everybody 00:17:09.78\00:17:11.63 has to be a strict as this but if I tell you 00:17:11.66\00:17:13.63 the people that come here, this is like saving to them. 00:17:13.66\00:17:17.56 Well, that some point I want to talk about 00:17:17.59\00:17:19.33 just a little stronger with you 00:17:19.36\00:17:21.46 because if there are like me with having open heart surgery 00:17:21.49\00:17:27.25 or having a stunt put in 00:17:27.28\00:17:29.41 or having some sort of cardiovascular event 00:17:29.44\00:17:33.30 you've got a, you got to be more careful. 00:17:33.33\00:17:35.84 If you don't you are not going to be around very long 00:17:35.87\00:17:38.34 and I know that you've said that 00:17:38.37\00:17:40.73 to a number people in your lectures. 00:17:40.76\00:17:43.58 And the thing is, is it you know something was say, 00:17:43.61\00:17:46.77 oh, I got to go sometime but you know, 00:17:46.80\00:17:48.91 you don't just necessarily just check out 00:17:48.94\00:17:51.52 when the first thing happens, you know. 00:17:51.55\00:17:53.54 You may have to, you may have to suffer 00:17:53.57\00:17:55.97 for some years and you know I mean it's-- 00:17:56.00\00:17:58.73 like you see smokers are pushing the-- 00:18:01.10\00:18:03.76 caught around they got there bottle of oxygen 00:18:03.79\00:18:06.18 in there concentrated there and that's 00:18:06.21\00:18:08.73 you know and there is a lifestyle things-- 00:18:08.76\00:18:11.00 if they could do it over again. 00:18:11.03\00:18:12.60 Let's come back to Gina. 00:18:12.63\00:18:14.66 Yeah, you know I want to re-emphasize 00:18:14.69\00:18:18.66 the importance of keeping our weight down. 00:18:18.69\00:18:21.65 Now I don't know if you knew this 00:18:21.68\00:18:23.92 you probably do but I didn't know it 00:18:23.95\00:18:26.46 that she has heart disease in her family. 00:18:26.49\00:18:30.48 Yeah. And obesity. 00:18:30.51\00:18:33.68 Now, what significance does that place 00:18:33.71\00:18:36.91 on a girl or a guy her age, 00:18:36.94\00:18:40.19 I'm assuming she's around 50s 00:18:40.22\00:18:43.07 and are they more likely to get diabetes 00:18:43.10\00:18:47.78 if they continue the lifestyle 00:18:47.81\00:18:49.98 there on getting morbidly obese et cetera 00:18:50.01\00:18:53.71 or they likely to have a cardiovascular event 00:18:53.74\00:18:56.90 tell me about that. 00:18:56.93\00:18:57.98 Yeah, of course it is. 00:18:58.01\00:18:59.08 You know that sometime in the very near future 00:18:59.11\00:19:02.24 if it already hasn't happened, 00:19:02.27\00:19:03.97 cigarette smoking was the leading cause of death. 00:19:04.00\00:19:06.66 Not just lung cancer but all the things 00:19:06.69\00:19:09.00 that cigarette smoking 00:19:09.03\00:19:10.37 and now obesity very sooner is already done 00:19:10.40\00:19:13.68 it's passed a cigarette smoking 00:19:13.71\00:19:16.36 and that's a terrible thing because you know-- 00:19:16.39\00:19:18.36 It is a terrible thing but you know 00:19:18.39\00:19:20.47 something Jim told me and you can correct me 00:19:20.50\00:19:23.80 if this isn't totally accurate but the, 00:19:23.83\00:19:26.07 the viewers need to hear this. 00:19:26.10\00:19:28.16 If a plane goes down a 747 with 300 people on it, 00:19:28.19\00:19:34.00 you know you get front page advertised on the news 00:19:34.03\00:19:37.62 this and that the other thing. 00:19:37.65\00:19:39.56 The number of people who die 00:19:39.59\00:19:42.19 because of disease like heart disease and diabetes-- 00:19:42.22\00:19:45.55 Secondhand smoke. 00:19:45.58\00:19:47.65 Secondhand smoke would fill ten 747s a day. 00:19:47.68\00:19:54.48 Yes. 00:19:54.51\00:19:55.61 Its wow, when I said that just blows my mind 10 a day 00:19:55.64\00:20:01.41 and we don't see any front page ads about these things. 00:20:01.44\00:20:04.66 I don't think the media is even aware of it 00:20:04.69\00:20:07.23 or if they are somebody is squashing. 00:20:07.26\00:20:09.93 No, no they, you know but it just say 00:20:09.96\00:20:13.57 well they died of natural causes. 00:20:13.60\00:20:16.31 Yeah, its natural you're gonna die if you eat but yeah. 00:20:16.34\00:20:20.59 Now the other thing on Gina, she had tried to help him out 00:20:20.62\00:20:26.22 and I said well Bob, you're the only, 00:20:26.25\00:20:30.47 you're the only male that I know 00:20:30.50\00:20:32.18 that can take pain like a woman 00:20:32.21\00:20:33.73 it's delivered to baby and he just laughs. 00:20:33.76\00:20:36.69 He said I can, I can get into a position 00:20:36.72\00:20:39.11 where I don't have pain 00:20:39.14\00:20:40.20 but see we don't think of this sometimes with a caretaker is, 00:20:40.23\00:20:45.74 is suffering as much and sometimes 00:20:45.77\00:20:48.10 are suffering more because-- Absolutely. 00:20:48.13\00:20:50.58 You know, it's in the back of their mind, 00:20:50.61\00:20:52.61 my loved one is not doing what they could do 00:20:52.64\00:20:56.61 and they could be so much better. 00:20:56.64\00:20:58.30 We've have, we have two other people here 00:20:58.33\00:21:00.07 that have lost their significant other and so-- 00:21:00.10\00:21:03.69 one of them after a long illness you know 00:21:03.72\00:21:06.40 and frequently and we know this, 00:21:06.43\00:21:09.11 a caretaker goes first because its stress 00:21:09.14\00:21:11.96 it's on them before the person dies so. 00:21:11.99\00:21:14.51 Here was a big thing for her and its big thing for him 00:21:14.54\00:21:17.01 and now they're just they're thrilled. 00:21:17.04\00:21:19.94 And I see that Gina, 00:21:19.97\00:21:22.27 will support Bob like nobody else can. 00:21:22.30\00:21:27.51 She goes she's onboard, she's really thrilled. 00:21:27.54\00:21:29.64 Well, might she onboard, 00:21:29.67\00:21:31.44 'cause she had all these wonderful things 00:21:31.47\00:21:33.29 happen for her too. 00:21:33.32\00:21:34.46 Yeah, but she is seeing a change man. 00:21:34.49\00:21:37.61 She's says to me there's hope 00:21:37.64\00:21:40.97 and that's when I want to leave you with that thought 00:21:41.00\00:21:44.69 and I want to leave the viewers 00:21:44.72\00:21:45.91 with the same thought there is hope, 00:21:45.94\00:21:48.01 there is the feasibility, 00:21:48.04\00:21:51.63 the possibility and almost the assurance 00:21:51.66\00:21:55.23 that if we change our lifestyle God will bless-- 00:21:55.26\00:21:59.32 Exodus 15:26, "I am the Lord 00:21:59.35\00:22:02.36 Thy God who healeth thee." 00:22:02.39\00:22:03.88 Amen. 00:22:03.91\00:22:05.84 Well you know Doc, time is running out 00:22:05.87\00:22:08.77 I want to thank you once again for joining us 00:22:08.80\00:22:12.47 and thank you for the work you do here 00:22:12.50\00:22:14.74 at Newstart and abroad. 00:22:14.77\00:22:17.43 It's a pleasure to tell people this. 00:22:17.46\00:22:20.16 All right. Thank you for your help. 00:22:20.19\00:22:22.07 And thank you friends, but don't go away 00:22:22.10\00:22:24.32 we have a tip for you right now. 00:22:24.35\00:22:27.62 Hi, I'm doctor Randy Bivens. 00:22:34.20\00:22:37.12 In order to reach our goal of living to 120, 00:22:37.15\00:22:40.42 we must make several healthy choices. 00:22:40.45\00:22:43.96 One of these choices is the decision to exercise. 00:22:43.99\00:22:47.01 In fact, physical fitness 00:22:47.04\00:22:49.50 is the most important predictor for longevity. 00:22:49.53\00:22:54.79 According to the CDC 00:22:54.82\00:22:56.29 only 23 percent of Americans get any regular light 00:22:56.32\00:22:59.66 to moderate physical activity. 00:22:59.69\00:23:01.80 In light of this information is it any wonder 00:23:01.83\00:23:04.71 that we are in the middle of an obesity epidemic? 00:23:04.74\00:23:08.93 Regular physical activity decreases our risk 00:23:08.96\00:23:11.43 for many diseases including obesity, 00:23:11.46\00:23:14.96 high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, 00:23:14.99\00:23:17.77 stroke, diabetes, osteoporosis 00:23:17.80\00:23:21.29 many cancers, anxiety and depression. 00:23:21.32\00:23:25.52 And I'm going study which began in 1984 00:23:25.55\00:23:28.18 has been monitoring the difference 00:23:28.21\00:23:29.96 between two groups of people at Stanford University, 00:23:29.99\00:23:32.93 the ever runners and the never runners. 00:23:32.96\00:23:35.77 The health of these two groups has been tracked 00:23:35.80\00:23:38.60 for nearly three decades, not surprisingly 00:23:38.63\00:23:42.09 the data has shown that exercise is critical to health. 00:23:42.12\00:23:46.07 Over the years compared with the never exercisers, 00:23:46.10\00:23:49.84 people who exercise regularly 00:23:49.87\00:23:51.85 showed improved aerobic capacity, 00:23:51.88\00:23:54.68 better heart health, increase bone mass, 00:23:54.71\00:23:57.76 less inflammation, less physical disability 00:23:57.79\00:24:01.25 and even improved thinking learning and memory. 00:24:01.28\00:24:05.36 They also lived significantly longer. 00:24:05.39\00:24:09.32 However what most astounded the researchers was the fact 00:24:09.35\00:24:13.39 that the runners continue to have improved health 00:24:13.42\00:24:16.73 and longevity even if they converted 00:24:16.76\00:24:19.62 to less vigorous activity later in life. 00:24:19.65\00:24:22.69 By the 19th year of the study 15 % of the runners had died 00:24:22.72\00:24:27.42 compared to 34 percent of the non-runners. 00:24:27.45\00:24:31.62 Many people claim that they do not have enough time 00:24:31.65\00:24:34.45 in the day to exercise, 00:24:34.48\00:24:36.50 but let me reveal a little secret. 00:24:36.53\00:24:38.72 For every minute of exercise 00:24:38.75\00:24:41.43 you gain two minutes of longevity. 00:24:41.46\00:24:44.86 So, you just do a little borrowing. 00:24:44.89\00:24:47.64 You borrow from the future. 00:24:47.67\00:24:50.43 Take time to care for your body now 00:24:50.46\00:24:52.82 and it will pay off double in the future. 00:24:52.85\00:24:56.20 According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 00:24:56.23\00:24:58.34 the average American spends 00:24:58.37\00:25:00.22 2 hours and 45 minutes a day watching television, 00:25:00.25\00:25:04.34 however time spent participating in sports, 00:25:04.37\00:25:08.13 exercise or recreation was drastically less 00:25:08.16\00:25:12.04 the average being only 18 minutes a day. 00:25:12.07\00:25:16.37 The numbers speak for themselves. 00:25:16.40\00:25:18.38 We have enough time to take care of our bodies. 00:25:18.41\00:25:21.40 We see we need to prioritize. 00:25:21.43\00:25:24.47 There've been several studies 00:25:24.50\00:25:25.68 that show physical activity can help 00:25:25.71\00:25:27.62 prevent many types of cancer, 00:25:27.65\00:25:29.66 particularly colon and breast cancer. 00:25:29.69\00:25:32.74 Current cancer patients can also benefit from exercise. 00:25:32.77\00:25:36.37 For example the most physically active 00:25:36.40\00:25:39.35 breast cancer patients reduce their risk of cancer 00:25:39.38\00:25:42.12 related death and recurrence by up to 40%. 00:25:42.15\00:25:46.59 Increasing your physical activity 00:25:46.62\00:25:48.75 after the age of 50 has tremendous benefits. 00:25:48.78\00:25:52.63 Not only can it add two to four years to your life 00:25:52.66\00:25:55.78 but a recent study has shown that people 00:25:55.81\00:25:57.73 who remain physically active 00:25:57.76\00:25:59.97 remain disability free for an additional 5.7 years. 00:26:00.00\00:26:06.27 So you're not only live longer but the quality of your life 00:26:06.30\00:26:10.04 will be better for a longer period of time. 00:26:10.07\00:26:13.51 Of all the health habit choices we can make, 00:26:13.54\00:26:17.52 maintaining physical fitness is the most important. 00:26:17.55\00:26:22.24 In fact, given the choice between 00:26:22.27\00:26:24.97 quitting smoking or staying fit, 00:26:25.00\00:26:28.81 staying fit is slightly healthier 00:26:28.84\00:26:31.68 and would lead to a longer life span. 00:26:31.71\00:26:34.92 It has been shown that burning 00:26:34.95\00:26:36.36 as little as 500 calories per week 00:26:36.39\00:26:39.34 has positive health benefits. 00:26:39.37\00:26:41.89 That is the equivalent of walking 00:26:41.92\00:26:43.48 only five miles a week. 00:26:43.51\00:26:47.15 However this is a case of, 00:26:47.18\00:26:49.53 if a little is good more is better. 00:26:49.56\00:26:52.44 We recommend walking two to three miles a day, 00:26:52.47\00:26:55.13 six days a week. 00:26:55.16\00:26:57.07 That would bring an extra 1,800 calories per week. 00:26:57.10\00:27:01.32 You would gain significant health benefits 00:27:01.35\00:27:04.02 as we have described and be getting closer 00:27:04.05\00:27:07.42 to our goal of living to 120 year. 00:27:07.45\00:27:11.12 You're killing me. 00:27:21.75\00:27:23.58 You're killing me. 00:27:26.34\00:27:28.09 Actually dad, you're killing yourself. 00:27:28.12\00:27:30.27 With the only program
