Hi friends and welcome to 00:00:22.33\00:00:24.45 another edition of NEWSTART Now. 00:00:24.46\00:00:27.12 In our studio we have Paul "Big Red" Wilson who's come 00:00:29.42\00:00:33.36 down to visit us for a 00:00:33.37\00:00:35.03 second or maybe even a third time. 00:00:35.04\00:00:37.42 Paul came to us a couple of 00:00:37.63\00:00:39.00 weeks ago in really bad shape and 00:00:39.01\00:00:41.60 I'd like you to take a look at that clip when he first arrived. 00:00:41.61\00:00:45.60 The reason I'm here is because I've 00:00:46.03\00:00:48.21 gained some weight and I haven't been 00:00:48.22\00:00:50.00 able to exercise and I have kidney 00:00:50.01\00:00:52.03 damage that I need to try to reverse. 00:00:52.04\00:00:54.66 I want to be able to 00:00:54.67\00:00:56.00 reverse the kidney damage I have. 00:00:56.01\00:00:57.87 I'd like to be able to get healthier. 00:00:58.30\00:01:01.00 I'd like to get totally off insulin if I can. 00:01:01.01\00:01:04.15 My blood pressure is 00:01:04.36\00:01:05.66 coming down which is great. 00:01:05.67\00:01:07.12 It's a help and I like the diet and the lifestyle. 00:01:07.13\00:01:11.54 It works, period. It works. 00:01:11.55\00:01:14.48 Welcome back friends and in our studio is "Big Red." 00:01:15.33\00:01:17.84 Hey it's good to see you again. 00:01:17.85\00:01:19.21 It's good to see you again. 00:01:19.22\00:01:21.00 Well, not really for the reasons, 00:01:21.01\00:01:23.75 but good to see you anyway. 00:01:23.76\00:01:26.06 I think when we first met you 00:01:26.87\00:01:29.03 were taking how many medications? 00:01:29.04\00:01:31.30 When I came back here, 00:01:32.66\00:01:33.78 I was on six medications 00:01:33.79\00:01:35.84 and since I've been here I'm off my heart medications, 00:01:36.21\00:01:40.09 I'm off my blood pressure medications, 00:01:40.10\00:01:42.18 my cholesterol medication 00:01:42.19\00:01:44.54 and I was on a pump doing 00:01:44.55\00:01:47.12 about 130 units a day of insulin 00:01:47.13\00:01:50.18 and I'm not on my pump for the first 00:01:50.19\00:01:51.60 time and I had been on a pump since 2004. 00:01:51.61\00:01:56.21 You know I'm not on any 00:01:57.09\00:01:58.57 insulin and I'm doing great. 00:01:58.58\00:02:00.36 So the last time you were here, 00:02:00.60\00:02:02.36 you were on the pump. I don't recall that. 00:02:02.37\00:02:04.60 Yeah I was on the pump and I downed my insulin way 00:02:04.69\00:02:08.81 back to about 12 to 16 units a day and I was taking a lot. 00:02:08.82\00:02:16.39 But that's right after I was involved in a 00:02:16.57\00:02:18.72 hurricane and I had terrible damage to my kidneys. 00:02:18.73\00:02:23.06 So now you're off all medication but Metformin? 00:02:23.66\00:02:26.54 Metformin and then Spironolactone 00:02:26.55\00:02:29.24 but I'll be off of that pretty soon too. 00:02:29.25\00:02:32.06 They already told me I can 00:02:32.30\00:02:33.60 get off that pretty quick. 00:02:33.61\00:02:34.84 Now I guess it's fair for me to say that when your wife 00:02:35.18\00:02:38.63 and I spoke she was really concerned about you, right? 00:02:38.64\00:02:42.09 Yeah. -And you were at a point where 00:02:42.54\00:02:45.81 you were starting to mumble a little bit, 00:02:45.82\00:02:49.51 as I recall, maybe not complete sentences, 00:02:49.52\00:02:53.24 and your body was starting to shut down. 00:02:53.27\00:02:55.63 I guess you know that. 00:02:55.64\00:02:57.00 Yeah I went through a situation 00:02:57.01\00:03:01.18 with my kidneys where I had over nine thousand 00:03:01.19\00:03:03.84 milligrams of protein going through them 00:03:03.85\00:03:06.15 I had a lot of poison in my system. 00:03:06.16\00:03:08.75 I began to mumble and I 00:03:08.76\00:03:10.54 couldn't finish sentences sometimes. 00:03:10.55\00:03:13.24 My blood pressure was pretty messed up. 00:03:13.33\00:03:16.12 I was doing more and more insulin 00:03:16.13\00:03:17.48 and gaining weight almost daily, 00:03:17.49\00:03:20.66 and honestly the three times that I've been there, 00:03:20.69\00:03:23.87 it's been three times, 00:03:23.88\00:03:25.36 I felt like I was about ready to die. 00:03:25.37\00:03:27.60 The first time in 2005 I had heart 00:03:27.61\00:03:30.24 problems and that got taken care of back in 2009. 00:03:30.25\00:03:36.00 I left here feeling great. 00:03:36.21\00:03:37.60 It's like I came in like a dead man, 00:03:37.61\00:03:39.54 crawling and walked out of here with 00:03:39.55\00:03:40.78 my head up and I feel the same now. 00:03:40.79\00:03:43.36 I felt like I came in crawling on my last 00:03:43.39\00:03:46.72 legs and I feel like I got my life back again. 00:03:46.73\00:03:50.42 So is your thinking clear 00:03:50.43\00:03:52.18 and right today, -Absolutely. 00:03:52.19\00:03:55.00 then it was two weeks ago? -Yes. 00:03:55.01\00:03:56.33 Tremendously. It's hard to explain 00:03:56.75\00:04:00.57 to somebody that hasn't been there 00:04:00.58\00:04:01.81 but it's amazing to be able to think and 00:04:01.84\00:04:04.39 recall things and be able to do complete sentences 00:04:04.40\00:04:07.45 and I had people tell me to stop mumbling and to 00:04:07.51\00:04:11.39 speak clearly because they couldn't understand me. 00:04:11.40\00:04:13.60 And I began getting worried and I 00:04:13.61\00:04:15.45 didn't realize how bad I was. -Yes. 00:04:15.46\00:04:17.36 Well your wife knew because we talked and then 00:04:17.51\00:04:20.69 you and I later talked and of course here you are. 00:04:20.70\00:04:24.18 You've been here for a couple of 00:04:24.36\00:04:25.69 weeks now and you get to go home tomorrow 00:04:25.70\00:04:29.06 and I know that this program, tell us, 00:04:29.15\00:04:31.57 tell the viewers what we talked about 00:04:31.58\00:04:34.00 earlier in the day when you stopped at my 00:04:34.01\00:04:35.78 office about continuing on this program. 00:04:35.79\00:04:39.15 Well it's real important when you leave here to be 00:04:39.21\00:04:42.21 able to continue the lifestyle. It's not hard to do. 00:04:42.22\00:04:45.24 It's actually easier than most people realize and I've learned 00:04:45.27\00:04:49.15 a lot here that helps me to be able to do that when I go home. 00:04:49.16\00:04:52.87 The one problem is though that I'm a pastor and the 00:04:53.18\00:04:56.57 crisises of people around me seem 00:04:56.58\00:04:58.78 to want to steal my time from me 00:04:58.79\00:05:01.00 which is also my exercise time and 00:05:01.01\00:05:03.21 sometimes the time that I need to eat 00:05:03.22\00:05:05.54 and it's not hard to come to a place 00:05:05.57\00:05:07.84 where you're not exercising like you need to 00:05:07.85\00:05:10.57 and you're not eating when and how 00:05:10.66\00:05:13.66 you need to eat and you get sabotaged. 00:05:13.67\00:05:16.87 Well you know I'm going to be checking in on you. 00:05:17.12\00:05:19.42 I appreciate that. I look forward to it. 00:05:19.43\00:05:21.33 And Dr. Lukens going to be 00:05:21.39\00:05:22.75 checking in on you too. -Absolutely. 00:05:22.76\00:05:24.66 You know we really want to support you 00:05:24.69\00:05:27.03 and I wanted viewers to know that when 00:05:27.04\00:05:28.45 people come through the program we 00:05:28.46\00:05:30.27 just don't let you go, we do some follow-up 00:05:30.28\00:05:33.63 Especially guys like "Red" who appreciate it 00:05:33.72\00:05:36.87 and really want us to stay in touch and we will. 00:05:36.88\00:05:40.27 Well you know I've sent other people here that have been real 00:05:40.28\00:05:43.15 sick and we've been able to see 00:05:43.16\00:05:44.69 them come back with their life again 00:05:44.70\00:05:47.45 and I know that I'm a third time repeat 00:05:47.57\00:05:51.30 but you know there's people out there who 00:05:51.51\00:05:52.87 have been through this program and if they 00:05:52.88\00:05:54.51 would remember how they felt when they left and 00:05:54.52\00:05:56.60 how good that was there's no condemnation here. 00:05:56.61\00:05:59.57 You know the passion to care for people is tremendous here 00:05:59.58\00:06:03.78 and when I came back here everybody was excited to see me. 00:06:03.81\00:06:07.24 They all wanted to hug up on me and they welcomed me back 00:06:07.25\00:06:10.48 but they all got together with me and helped me to 00:06:10.63\00:06:13.42 overcome the stuff that was taking my life from me 00:06:13.43\00:06:16.21 and I appreciate that. I don't think you can find 00:06:16.39\00:06:18.84 that in a doctor's office anywhere in this country. 00:06:18.85\00:06:21.45 Maybe one of our doctors office. 00:06:22.15\00:06:24.21 Absolutely. -I've got to tell you when I came, 00:06:24.22\00:06:26.45 as you know, I met my doctor for 00:06:26.46\00:06:29.18 the first time, Dr. Michael Orlich 00:06:29.19\00:06:31.27 and he prayed with me and I went "wow, 00:06:31.66\00:06:34.39 this is a special place. " -Oh yeah. 00:06:34.40\00:06:36.78 Anyway this is about you. Tell us what else has happened? 00:06:37.27\00:06:40.60 How much weight have you lost? 00:06:40.61\00:06:42.33 Well I've lost 23 pounds as of today. 00:06:42.34\00:06:44.72 You beat me by a pound. 00:06:44.73\00:06:46.30 I'm not going to quit though. I'm going to come back 00:06:46.84\00:06:49.12 looking thin and lean and mean 00:06:49.13\00:06:51.42 and a praising machine. -Alright. 00:06:51.43\00:06:53.24 I've got to tell you I love the people here. 00:06:53.27\00:06:55.60 You know I also came with a back injury that was pretty bad. 00:06:55.61\00:06:58.75 I had moved a vertebrae when I was working out, 00:06:58.81\00:07:01.18 exercising on a machine. 00:07:01.19\00:07:03.39 It tore a disk and herniated another disk and 00:07:03.51\00:07:06.45 the hydrotherapy here has just helped tremendously. 00:07:06.46\00:07:10.75 I don't have pain going down my leg, 00:07:10.76\00:07:12.84 I don't have shocks and spasms. 00:07:12.85\00:07:15.69 They do such a great job in there with you. 00:07:15.70\00:07:18.75 It's tremendous, I mean, I don't know 00:07:18.81\00:07:21.12 any part of this that I haven't enjoyed, 00:07:21.13\00:07:23.42 thoroughly enjoyed. It's been a blessing. 00:07:23.43\00:07:25.75 Well maybe you might think about just signing up 00:07:26.09\00:07:28.36 for every six months you come down here, 00:07:28.37\00:07:31.03 spend three weeks and then go home fresh and new. 00:07:31.04\00:07:34.21 Well actually I'm going to do something similar to that. 00:07:34.33\00:07:37.06 You guys have a freshstart program 00:07:37.07\00:07:38.63 that lets you come for four or five days 00:07:38.64\00:07:40.51 and I'm going to come down 00:07:40.52\00:07:42.09 here with my wife and I'm 00:07:42.10\00:07:43.48 going to make a trip down here, probably every six months 00:07:43.49\00:07:46.66 and just come down and keep in touch 00:07:46.69\00:07:48.45 with everybody, visit with the doctors. 00:07:48.46\00:07:50.24 I'm staying in touch with my doctor, Dr. Lukens and I'm going 00:07:50.45\00:07:54.21 to send him regular monthly 00:07:54.22\00:07:55.84 updates especially on my kidneys 00:07:55.85\00:07:57.87 so they can see how this affects kidneys, 00:07:58.39\00:08:01.36 I believe my kidneys are improving. 00:08:01.37\00:08:03.78 Some of the numbers show that but I'll have 00:08:03.79\00:08:06.21 better ones after I go home and have some tests done. 00:08:06.22\00:08:09.09 Yeah. Now we know "Red" 00:11:28.60\00:11:33.18 from '09 and he's been here in '05. 00:11:33.19\00:11:37.57 So now he's here, you're his doctor. 00:11:38.12\00:11:41.12 Tell us what happened. 00:11:41.13\00:11:42.84 The thing that's really hard is that we can't 00:11:44.06\00:11:47.36 always get in touch with him because he's such a busy guy 00:11:47.37\00:11:51.42 and so I'd call him and he takes a Tuesday off and 00:11:51.43\00:11:57.36 everyone should do this, have a day completely off 00:11:57.37\00:12:00.33 when you do your spiritual, you do your devotional, 00:12:00.57\00:12:04.87 you do your Bible study and everything 00:12:04.88\00:12:07.03 and that's why he's so strong in 00:12:07.15\00:12:09.78 the Lord and he serves so many people. 00:12:09.79\00:12:11.87 But see the last time when he came here 00:12:12.09\00:12:15.18 he was just right at the point of death 00:12:15.19\00:12:18.21 and he mentioned that but I quizzed him 00:12:18.22\00:12:20.48 on it today at the last doctor's meeting. 00:12:20.49\00:12:22.81 He said they have what they call, scoop and run. 00:12:22.84\00:12:25.87 He was so close to death. 00:12:25.88\00:12:27.51 He stayed down there for Gustav, this was in I 00:12:27.52\00:12:31.54 think it was in 2008, was it? -Yeah I think so. 00:12:31.55\00:12:35.45 Okay and then they had Ike after 00:12:35.46\00:12:38.03 that so he goes from one to the next 00:12:38.04\00:12:40.72 and the only food that he had to eat was their, 00:12:40.75\00:12:44.39 they flew in a big meat locker, 00:12:44.40\00:12:46.69 had a generator, kept it frozen and he was mostly eating beef, 00:12:46.70\00:12:51.33 and so you know I mean that was 00:12:51.48\00:12:53.57 what they were offering, that's what he had. 00:12:53.58\00:12:55.78 He had cellulitis in his leg, his kidneys were shutting down, 00:12:56.12\00:13:00.87 he was having some kind of a bacterimia or septicemia 00:13:01.12\00:13:06.27 so they put something in his ear to see what his temp was, 00:13:06.33\00:13:10.30 slapped some things on his chest, 00:13:10.31\00:13:12.51 and when they realized the situation 00:13:12.60\00:13:16.36 that he was in he was having the chills. 00:13:16.37\00:13:20.36 He said they have what they call, scoop and run. 00:13:20.37\00:13:23.54 They just brought him in there and plugged IVs in him, 00:13:23.55\00:13:27.21 they started him on things 00:13:27.22\00:13:28.84 and when he got to the emergency 00:13:28.85\00:13:31.12 room there in Houston at the hospital, 00:13:31.13\00:13:33.63 the guy looked at him and he said "is he still alive?" 00:13:33.64\00:13:37.27 That's how close it was you see. -Wow. 00:13:38.30\00:13:40.06 He was in the hospital for ten days 00:13:40.07\00:13:41.54 and they start testing and they say 00:13:41.57\00:13:43.36 we've got to take your gallbladder out now 00:13:43.37\00:13:45.42 and he was so sick he said "just let me go home please. 00:13:45.45\00:13:48.87 Can't this wait until later?" 00:13:48.88\00:13:50.63 Well they didn't want to but they let him go home. 00:13:50.64\00:13:53.81 Now he actually did pretty well until he couldn't 00:13:54.06\00:13:57.45 exercise because he told you about doing his back out 00:13:57.46\00:14:01.15 and then so he was sedentary and all that 00:14:01.36\00:14:04.57 kind of stuff and he was really doing poorly 00:14:04.58\00:14:08.03 and then whatever happened there in Houston and the 00:14:08.27\00:14:12.54 antibiotics and maybe his blood pressure went really low 00:14:12.55\00:14:17.18 and his kidneys just started pouring 00:14:17.54\00:14:19.84 out protein and they wanted to do a biopsy. 00:14:19.85\00:14:22.54 So I told him today I said, since you're doing so well, 00:14:22.69\00:14:27.21 keep them to deferring it. 00:14:27.22\00:14:29.27 They said "we don't know why this is so 00:14:29.42\00:14:31.24 they're just going to try to look and see" 00:14:31.25\00:14:33.09 What's really neat is that his doctors say you know, 00:14:33.10\00:14:37.63 from clear back the first time he came, 00:14:37.64\00:14:39.87 they said you know you did really well. 00:14:39.88\00:14:41.69 Why don't you go back to that place? 00:14:41.70\00:14:43.42 Well he really didn't have a choice the second 00:14:43.54\00:14:45.69 time because he was about ready to die. He really was. 00:14:45.70\00:14:49.15 I mean his legs were like this and he had cellulitis 00:14:49.16\00:14:52.27 and they were oozing and everything. 00:14:52.28\00:14:54.42 It was really sad. 00:14:54.43\00:14:55.48 This time you know, he was actually better than 00:14:55.75\00:14:59.45 he was when he came here the last time. -Yeah. 00:14:59.46\00:15:03.03 But this time now, he's pouring 00:15:04.36\00:15:05.39 out a tremendous amount of protein. 00:15:05.40\00:15:07.54 Why is that? -They don't know. -Just don't know. 00:15:07.55\00:15:11.21 It could be from inflammation but he's done that 00:15:11.22\00:15:14.78 ever since he was so sick back there in Houston. 00:15:14.79\00:15:18.36 But the really exciting part is, he's tech you know, 00:15:18.42\00:15:23.03 he just plugs it in, sends the 00:15:23.04\00:15:24.87 information over from his pump to the doctors 00:15:24.88\00:15:27.45 and they said "you know they're taking you down on your 00:15:28.00\00:15:31.30 insulin but it looks like they can take you down faster" 00:15:31.31\00:15:34.60 so back a week ago I say, 00:15:35.66\00:15:37.66 let's see how they like this one. 00:15:37.67\00:15:40.27 Just pull that thing out and stop it. 00:15:40.28\00:15:43.03 and increase your exercise as you can, 00:15:43.04\00:15:45.15 so this is the first time since he went on the pump. 00:15:45.16\00:15:48.00 When he first got the pump they had to, 00:15:48.54\00:15:50.84 usually it's a hundred units of the rapid acting that they use 00:15:50.85\00:15:56.81 and he had to have the five hundred units 00:15:57.03\00:16:00.30 per CC because he had to use so much insulin 00:16:00.31\00:16:03.69 and he was using about 00:16:03.81\00:16:07.24 anywhere from 80 to 130, 135 units 00:16:07.25\00:16:12.21 and he was doing pretty well on that but see 00:16:12.66\00:16:15.63 he kept gaining weight and that's what we see. 00:16:15.64\00:16:18.66 When you overdo on insulin and 00:16:18.87\00:16:21.21 you try to keep those numbers low, 00:16:21.22\00:16:23.15 low, low you cannot get your weight down 00:16:23.16\00:16:26.51 because, just like a 00:16:26.60\00:16:27.87 patient I just got through seeing, 00:16:27.88\00:16:30.03 she kept doing it and her blood sugars would go 00:16:30.04\00:16:32.78 low, she'd have to eat more insulin, fatter, 00:16:32.87\00:16:36.39 diabetes is worse and it's a vicious circle 00:16:36.40\00:16:39.69 so he's just absolutely excited 00:16:39.81\00:16:42.03 about this and his diabetologist, 00:16:42.04\00:16:46.42 his internists are going to be excited about it 00:16:46.43\00:16:49.27 because I think his blood sugars even 00:16:49.28\00:16:51.81 after he eats are about 200 or lower. 00:16:51.82\00:16:56.27 Let me ask you a question. I don't know if 00:16:56.42\00:16:58.45 you were aware of this. Of course you were. 00:16:58.46\00:17:00.51 When his wife called me and said "Red 00:17:01.09\00:17:04.15 needs to come back" I said well you know, 00:17:04.16\00:17:07.42 the only thing he needs to do is get serious. 00:17:07.43\00:17:11.03 She said "well he's really serious now, 00:17:11.60\00:17:13.63 he really needs to come here, and I 00:17:13.64\00:17:15.15 said well let's get him down here. 00:17:15.16\00:17:16.78 Well when I first talked to him he was kind of 00:17:17.15\00:17:20.30 slurring his words and everything. 00:17:20.31\00:17:22.63 What was all that about? 00:17:22.64\00:17:24.30 Well see the thing is his legs were swelling again 00:17:24.45\00:17:28.06 and that means that his heart isn't pumping properly 00:17:28.07\00:17:31.63 so when your heart isn't pumping properly, 00:17:31.84\00:17:34.78 then your legs swell, your 00:17:34.79\00:17:37.09 kidneys aren't getting good profusion, 00:17:37.10\00:17:39.27 your brain isn't getting good 00:17:39.28\00:17:40.51 profusion and the heart isn't profusing itself 00:17:40.52\00:17:44.03 and every time we talk, practically I 00:17:44.09\00:17:46.06 talk about getting on the plant-based diet. 00:17:46.07\00:17:49.48 The little tiny blood vessels dilate up, 00:17:49.49\00:17:52.21 the heart starts pumping stronger and with the 00:17:52.42\00:17:56.51 little bit of exercise he could do, strong heart 00:17:56.52\00:18:00.66 pump the water out through the kidneys, 00:18:00.84\00:18:02.57 I'm hoping that the 00:18:02.58\00:18:04.30 kidneys are stronger now, 00:18:04.31\00:18:05.69 the brain starts functioning better 00:18:05.75\00:18:07.69 and he's good to go. -And all of 00:18:07.70\00:18:09.60 a sudden he starts talking normal. 00:18:09.61\00:18:11.54 Yeah. -It's amazing just to see what he's 00:18:11.60\00:18:13.81 gone through in the last couple of months. 00:18:13.82\00:18:16.15 Yeah and he did lose over 20 pounds and a lot of that 00:18:16.51\00:18:21.33 is water out but now that he's able to get up and walk 00:18:21.34\00:18:24.51 he's regaining his lean body mass and 00:18:24.52\00:18:27.45 those muscles are starting to work better. 00:18:27.46\00:18:33.09 I don't know whether we have time now or not but there's 00:18:33.30\00:18:35.39 something called mitochondria and this is a big deal now. 00:18:35.40\00:18:39.09 and what they found is that these little 00:18:39.24\00:18:42.12 tiny fuel burners that make the energy for you, 00:18:42.13\00:18:45.39 you can increase their efficiency by fifty 00:18:45.54\00:18:48.27 percent and you can get fifty percent more of them 00:18:48.28\00:18:51.42 and they're in all the cells. 00:18:51.51\00:18:54.12 Even the pancreas can start having healthier cells 00:18:54.13\00:19:03.12 and the exciting thing was, I want to know after 00:19:03.27\00:19:06.00 all these years does he really need that insulin? 00:19:06.01\00:19:08.66 so he did that C-Peptide test and we found out that he's 00:19:08.87\00:19:12.51 making twice the amount of 00:19:12.52\00:19:14.24 insulin that normally he should need 00:19:14.25\00:19:16.51 so I said let's stop it. -Right. 00:19:16.60\00:19:18.48 Now what about coins on Q10 for the 00:19:19.15\00:19:21.03 mitochondria would that be something you work with? 00:19:21.04\00:19:23.60 You know we make that stuff and we 00:19:23.61\00:19:25.45 don't really need all the supplements. 00:19:25.46\00:19:27.42 Your body makes enough? -Oh yeah but it's healthy. 00:19:27.87\00:19:31.33 Well how does it double and triple? 00:19:31.36\00:19:33.54 No, these are the mitochondria. 00:19:33.55\00:19:35.33 That's what I mean, the mitochondria. 00:19:35.34\00:19:37.33 How do they double? -They're called into action. 00:19:37.34\00:19:39.63 The body does things that it needs to do. 00:19:39.64\00:19:41.60 Oh when you exercise -Yeah, yeah. -Oh okay. 00:19:41.61\00:19:44.03 In about three months it turns you completely around. 00:19:44.12\00:19:48.60 That's why I say exercise is going 00:19:48.61\00:19:51.87 to be two thirds of your program. 00:19:51.88\00:19:53.36 So that's what we witnessed with 00:19:53.37\00:19:55.48 Red in this last couple of weeks, 00:19:55.49\00:19:57.57 that mitochondria perhaps 00:19:57.58\00:19:59.27 No, no it takes longer than that 00:19:59.28\00:20:01.36 but the diet and the exercise, 00:20:01.45\00:20:03.09 the two together have made his heart stronger. 00:20:03.10\00:20:05.42 Oh okay. -Yeah and he's going 00:20:05.45\00:20:06.84 to get stronger and stronger. 00:20:06.85\00:20:08.27 He's going to be able to burn that fat up. 00:20:08.33\00:20:10.69 I mean 230, I mean 300, 00:20:10.70\00:20:13.75 330 pounds for somebody that's six 00:20:13.76\00:20:16.69 feet tall is still morbid obesity. 00:20:16.70\00:20:19.42 He's over 100 pounds overweight. -Yes. 00:20:19.45\00:20:21.78 And that means that he may have, 00:20:21.87\00:20:24.45 you know one to three miles of extra blood vessels 00:20:24.46\00:20:28.30 to profuse all of that. His heart doesn't need that. 00:20:28.51\00:20:32.09 I told him you were going to keep after him. 00:20:32.15\00:20:34.06 Yeah he's agreed. There's studies 00:22:43.16\00:22:45.63 showing that for heart health it's actually 00:22:45.64\00:22:48.27 about as important as many of the other 00:22:48.28\00:22:50.60 common treatments that we have for heart disease. 00:22:50.61\00:22:53.54 By making sure that you get an adequate 00:22:54.69\00:22:57.39 amount versus those people who are on the low end, 00:22:57.40\00:22:59.45 the difference meet is about fifty 00:22:59.46\00:23:01.27 percent reduction in risk of heart attack. 00:23:01.28\00:23:05.72 And that's probably because the blood gets more viscus, 00:23:05.73\00:23:08.78 more sticky and maybe causes the coronary events. 00:23:08.79\00:23:11.45 We're not entirely sure but that's 00:23:11.46\00:23:13.21 probably at least part of the reason. 00:23:13.22\00:23:15.03 I'm guessing there's 00:23:15.04\00:23:16.06 probably more parts to the reason. 00:23:16.07\00:23:17.63 So what kind of water should we drink? 00:23:17.72\00:23:20.87 Just tap water, distilled water, 00:23:20.88\00:23:22.39 I mean there's all kinds of exotic water. 00:23:22.40\00:23:24.00 I go to the store and I could see a 00:23:24.01\00:23:26.30 bottle that costs me $1.72 or you know a buck. 00:23:26.31\00:23:31.03 And then I can find this exotic water that's, 00:23:31.18\00:23:33.30 you know, I'm not saying ten bucks, 00:23:33.31\00:23:34.72 but there's a big vast variation and they all 00:23:34.73\00:23:38.03 have different labels. How do I navigate that? 00:23:38.04\00:23:40.42 The first thing that I'd like to point out 00:23:41.00\00:23:42.57 is that regardless of the type of the water, 00:23:42.58\00:23:44.12 getting enough water is the 00:23:44.13\00:23:45.84 number one message, first and foremost. 00:23:45.85\00:23:48.00 When it comes to the type of water there have 00:23:48.06\00:23:51.09 been a number of different studies done on this 00:23:51.10\00:23:55.18 and again make sure you get water. 00:23:55.24\00:23:58.15 Probably one of the 00:23:58.16\00:24:00.72 more unhealthy forms of water is actually distilled water. 00:24:00.73\00:24:04.45 I know this is going to come as a surprise 00:24:04.54\00:24:06.84 and perhaps concern to some of the listeners 00:24:06.85\00:24:10.27 but what distilled water does is it 00:24:10.42\00:24:12.36 separates out the minerals from the 00:24:12.37\00:24:14.24 water and what we're finding out is 00:24:14.25\00:24:16.15 those minerals are there for a reason 00:24:16.16\00:24:18.09 in particular cardiac health. 00:24:18.21\00:24:20.27 So tap water is good then after all. 00:24:20.39\00:24:22.45 Depends on the local environment in 00:24:23.27\00:24:25.75 terms of like if there's chemicals in there. 00:24:25.76\00:24:27.84 I think many of us have chosen to go with water 00:24:27.85\00:24:31.33 that's like from a stream source, 00:24:31.34\00:24:32.78 you know, mountain water. 00:24:32.79\00:24:34.33 And then what about filtered with charcoal? 00:24:34.42\00:24:36.45 It's probably better because it does take out some 00:24:36.87\00:24:40.66 of the chlorine and some of the other substances. 00:24:40.67\00:24:43.87 Okay so how much water should I drink? 00:24:43.88\00:24:48.06 I always hear this six to eight glasses. 00:24:48.07\00:24:50.48 Is that valid or how do you tell? 00:24:51.06\00:24:53.48 The problem is is people come in different sizes, 00:24:54.00\00:24:56.51 they have different needs 00:24:56.52\00:24:57.75 and if it's a hot day versus if you're exercising you 00:24:57.78\00:25:01.09 know six to eight glasses is maybe a good rule of thumb 00:25:01.10\00:25:04.33 but I think far better to actually sort 00:25:04.63\00:25:07.75 of let your urine actually be the guide 00:25:07.76\00:25:10.78 in terms of how much you should get. 00:25:10.84\00:25:12.48 So my urine being the guide is somewhat interesting. 00:25:12.66\00:25:16.69 I never thought of being led around by my urine 00:25:16.70\00:25:19.33 but what do you mean by this? 00:25:19.39\00:25:20.69 What do you mean by the urine being the guide? 00:25:20.70\00:25:22.75 Yeah as we pee in the toilet as you take a 00:25:22.84\00:25:25.57 look at the color of your urine in the toilet 00:25:25.58\00:25:28.39 It's pretty straightforward but 00:25:28.81\00:25:30.69 something that we really need to pay 00:25:30.70\00:25:32.06 attention to and if it's really dark 00:25:32.07\00:25:33.63 yellow we're not getting enough water. 00:25:33.64\00:25:37.24 If it's clear then we know we're doing a good job. 00:25:37.36\00:25:39.69 So it should be close to clear as possible. 00:25:39.70\00:25:42.51 Really that's true. 00:25:42.52\00:25:43.75 And if you're seeing that it's not you need to drink 2, 00:25:43.81\00:25:48.24 3, 4 more glasses. -Get more water 00:25:48.25\00:25:49.63 but the problem is that urine 00:25:49.66\00:25:51.18 comes at the end, in other words, 00:25:51.19\00:25:53.15 it's what you should've been doing before. 00:25:53.16\00:25:54.81 so how can you make sure that you're getting enough? 00:25:54.82\00:25:57.24 What you can do is you can use the urine as general guide 00:25:57.54\00:26:00.18 you say boy I'm just, it's a reminder, 00:26:00.19\00:26:02.30 I'm not getting enough water so I need 00:26:02.31\00:26:03.69 to do things to be able to help get 00:26:03.70\00:26:06.39 enough water as evidence by a clear urine. 00:26:06.40\00:26:09.84 Okay so I get my water bottle. Can the water be damaged at 00:26:10.09\00:26:13.81 all by being in the sun in a 00:26:13.82\00:26:15.15 plastic bottle? Tell us about that. 00:26:15.16\00:26:18.57 Yeah, there is significant concerns about certain 00:26:18.60\00:26:21.63 substances within plastics. 00:26:21.64\00:26:23.63 The harder the plastic the better. 00:26:23.64\00:26:25.42 For me I actually got a stainless steel container or 00:26:25.60\00:26:30.72 a glass container is 00:26:30.73\00:26:32.75 probably is a safer way to store. 00:26:32.76\00:26:36.00 And if you have it in the sun, 00:26:36.42\00:26:38.48 if it's in a plastic bottle it's probably not good. 00:26:38.49\00:26:41.00 There's certain chemicals that 00:26:41.01\00:26:42.03 can sort of leech into the water. 00:26:42.04\00:26:43.21 But if it's in glass or you know something 00:26:43.42\00:26:46.39 that's not going to leech out that's better. 00:26:46.40\00:26:47.87 So the most important thing is to get water. -Yes. 00:26:47.88\00:26:50.60 And get enough water based on 00:26:50.66\00:26:52.30 six to eight glasses as a rule of 00:26:52.31\00:26:54.42 thumb but really look at your 00:26:54.43\00:26:55.63 urine to see if it's clear or not. 00:26:55.64\00:26:57.39 Make sure you're getting the best kind of water in 00:26:57.42\00:27:01.06 terms of the container so that you don't an interaction, 00:27:01.07\00:27:05.00 but the real bottom line is make sure and 00:27:05.18\00:27:06.87 get water you really need water. -That's right. 00:27:06.88\00:27:08.84 It's really hard to overdo it. Put it on your desk, 00:27:09.06\00:27:11.51 have it with you, carry it, whatever you can do. 00:27:11.52\00:27:13.81 We've been talking with Dr. Doug Plata and 00:27:14.03\00:27:16.18 we're thankful that you came to be with us today. 00:27:16.19\00:27:18.63 And we're glad that you came to be with us as well. 00:27:19.09\00:27:21.45 If you want information about this or other 00:27:21.46\00:27:24.09 topics that are very practical and useful go to 00:27:24.10\00:27:26.51 and you can find this program and many others. 00:27:30.54\00:27:33.09 Thanks for joining us. 00:27:33.10\00:27:34.69 Well friends that's it for today. 00:27:40.72\00:27:43.45 Don't wait like Red did. 00:27:43.46\00:27:45.60 Don't wait until you're sick 00:27:45.61\00:27:48.18 and tired of being sick and tired. 00:27:48.19\00:27:51.18 Pick up the phone and give us a call at 00:27:51.36\00:27:54.15 You'll be glad that you did. 00:27:59.00\00:28:00.42 God Bless. 00:28:04.84\00:28:07.36
