Hi friends and welcome to 00:00:23.51\00:00:25.39 another edition of NEWSTART Now. 00:00:25.40\00:00:27.63 I'm really excited today, and for those of you who may 00:00:27.69\00:00:32.09 be suffering a little bit from depression or anxiety, 00:00:32.10\00:00:36.15 I would like you to pay 00:00:36.16\00:00:37.81 particular attention to this interview. 00:00:37.82\00:00:40.66 In our studio we have Judith and 00:00:40.72\00:00:43.60 we want to take a look at when she 00:00:43.61\00:00:46.57 first arrived and you tell me if you 00:00:46.58\00:00:49.75 see a difference between then and now. 00:00:49.76\00:00:53.09 The anxiety and depression have 00:00:53.78\00:00:57.12 basically kept me from living life. 00:00:57.13\00:01:00.63 I spend most of my time in front of the 00:01:01.21\00:01:04.69 television or on the computer, just playing games. 00:01:04.70\00:01:09.18 I have not lived life in a really, 00:01:10.06\00:01:12.69 really long time. 00:01:12.70\00:01:14.06 The depression has been with 00:01:14.12\00:01:16.54 me for twenty years, minimum, 00:01:16.55\00:01:19.06 and it's been a lot of ups and downs 00:01:19.45\00:01:23.18 but my coping skills are not that good 00:01:23.19\00:01:26.87 I have had several suicide attempts and the fact that 00:01:27.21\00:01:31.60 I'm alive today is a real miracle and a testament to God. 00:01:31.61\00:01:36.30 I'd like to see myself become more mobile, 00:01:36.69\00:01:39.45 to be better able to handle the 00:01:39.46\00:01:41.48 stresses of life, and to be happier. 00:01:41.49\00:01:47.18 What I want from the NEWSTART program 00:01:47.33\00:01:49.48 is to live a life that is worth living 00:01:49.49\00:01:52.54 and a life that is worth living for God 00:01:52.55\00:01:55.09 and to be a testament to His awesomeness. 00:01:55.10\00:01:59.27 Amen. Well in our studio, Judith, 00:02:01.66\00:02:04.15 thank you so much for joining us. 00:02:04.16\00:02:06.75 Thank you for having me. 00:02:06.76\00:02:08.36 Yes. Now I asked you earlier, 00:02:08.37\00:02:10.81 do you see a difference? I certainly do. 00:02:10.82\00:02:14.18 And I know our viewers are looking now and going, 00:02:14.21\00:02:17.78 that isn't really the same lady, is it? 00:02:17.79\00:02:20.63 You tell us your experience. What's happened here? 00:02:20.69\00:02:23.36 It is the same person. Although, I'm much happier 00:02:23.37\00:02:27.33 inside and with a little bit of a song in my heart so, yes. 00:02:27.34\00:02:32.03 Praise God. -Yes. There's 00:02:32.15\00:02:34.87 several different treatments 00:02:34.88\00:02:37.81 here that I'm using to help me to work through the depression 00:02:37.82\00:02:43.81 and also to kind of shock 00:02:43.87\00:02:46.12 my brain into a happier me. 00:02:46.13\00:02:50.66 Well you told me about one of your treatments 00:02:50.78\00:02:52.72 and we've got to share this with the guests. 00:02:52.73\00:02:54.57 Don't try this at home, by the way. I assure you, 00:02:54.75\00:02:58.00 you may have a little palpitations or something. 00:02:58.01\00:03:01.09 Tell us what happened in the hydro. 00:03:01.10\00:03:03.18 I'm doing hot and cold contrast baths 00:03:03.19\00:03:07.39 and the hot temperature is 114 degrees, 00:03:07.40\00:03:11.72 and I stay in that tub for three minutes, 00:03:11.87\00:03:14.33 submerged up to my neck, 00:03:14.34\00:03:15.66 and then I go into the cold tub which 00:03:16.24\00:03:18.45 is right beside the hot tub and I go in 00:03:18.46\00:03:20.72 as quickly as I can because when I go in slow, 00:03:20.73\00:03:23.48 it's harder to get into the water 00:03:23.49\00:03:25.42 so I'm in that one for one 00:03:25.45\00:03:28.30 minute at 50 degrees. -50 degrees. 00:03:28.31\00:03:31.69 We started out with 112 and 56 degrees and 00:03:31.70\00:03:34.81 now we're kind of putting them to more extremes. 00:03:34.82\00:03:38.33 And what does that do for you? 00:03:38.42\00:03:41.57 It helps my brain. 00:03:41.58\00:03:43.54 I imagine with the seratonin, and the neurons and I'm not 00:03:43.60\00:03:49.09 exactly sure about the 00:03:49.10\00:03:51.15 science behind it but it's working. 00:03:51.16\00:03:52.69 Whatever it is, it's working. 00:03:53.03\00:03:54.51 Well, you know, I've learned many, many 00:03:54.52\00:03:56.54 many years ago that just a cold 00:03:56.55\00:04:00.48 shower will pop you out of a mood. 00:04:00.49\00:04:03.33 Whether it'll pop you out of depression, 00:04:03.34\00:04:04.48 I'm not sure but I know it can change moods. 00:04:04.49\00:04:09.63 So -It's invigorating, very invigorating. 00:04:09.66\00:04:12.39 What else has happened here that has helped you? 00:04:12.40\00:04:15.54 You look different, you're more radiant, 00:04:15.55\00:04:18.18 you have a little glow here. Tell us about that. 00:04:18.19\00:04:21.09 I have been doing some walking, 00:04:21.10\00:04:23.33 not a lot because of my physical pain, 00:04:23.34\00:04:25.66 but I have been mostly walking 00:04:25.67\00:04:28.24 the hallways and on the treadmill. 00:04:28.25\00:04:31.03 I'm waiting for the day to be walking outside, 00:04:31.12\00:04:34.84 so -When the sun starts shining. 00:04:34.85\00:04:37.45 When the sun starts shining 00:04:37.46\00:04:38.81 and it's not pouring buckets. 00:04:38.82\00:04:40.33 It's been raining here quite a bit. 00:04:41.18\00:04:42.51 It is. And the fact that it 00:04:42.52\00:04:43.84 has been raining and my mood is still up, 00:04:43.85\00:04:47.81 that's a really good sign, 00:04:47.82\00:04:49.48 Because usually the weather affects me. 00:04:49.63\00:04:53.42 Yes, it affects all of us, to be honest. 00:04:53.43\00:04:57.15 Now aside from the hydro and the hot and cold, 00:04:57.16\00:05:01.33 what else did you like about being here? 00:05:01.34\00:05:04.87 Spending time with the chaplain, and the 00:05:06.57\00:05:09.51 spiritual guidance that she offers me and the lectures. 00:05:09.52\00:05:13.45 I'm finding the lectures very helpful, 00:05:13.48\00:05:15.51 very enriching and it's giving me hope for the future. 00:05:15.52\00:05:23.15 You know, that's such a wonderful word 00:05:24.75\00:05:26.48 because that word just kind of rings in my head 00:05:26.49\00:05:30.30 because when my wife was asked by Shelley Quinn on 3ABN, 00:05:30.36\00:05:35.45 where this program will be aired, 00:05:35.46\00:05:38.39 she asked Cindy, she said, well as Ron was 00:05:38.40\00:05:41.18 going through all these changes, what did you see? 00:05:41.19\00:05:44.36 And she said you know, 00:05:44.37\00:05:45.78 I saw for the first time, he had hope. 00:05:45.79\00:05:48.27 Yeah. -And you have just shared 00:05:48.28\00:05:51.78 that and that's a powerful word. 00:05:51.79\00:05:55.18 And I'd like you to rephrase it once again so our viewers, 00:05:55.33\00:05:59.78 there are people out there, 00:05:59.79\00:06:02.00 you know, are suffering from depression. 00:06:02.01\00:06:05.06 They think it's the end of the world. 00:06:05.12\00:06:07.87 What hope can you give them? 00:06:07.88\00:06:10.03 Before I came to Weimar, 00:06:11.75\00:06:13.39 I went through a very difficult period, 00:06:13.40\00:06:15.81 for about two weeks and I really did not think I 00:06:16.06\00:06:19.78 was going to make it 00:06:19.79\00:06:21.45 through that pit and as a result, 00:06:21.46\00:06:24.06 I was unable to eat and I lost ten pounds before I came. 00:06:24.07\00:06:28.33 And I'm actually looking towards 00:06:28.51\00:06:31.51 another session here at Weimar. 00:06:31.52\00:06:34.30 I feel like I need more time to come up with a plan for my 00:06:34.31\00:06:38.00 life because I really was not 00:06:38.01\00:06:39.78 living life before I came to Weimar. 00:06:39.79\00:06:42.09 And I so want to live life. I really do. 00:06:42.15\00:06:45.36 Well, so now you're staying for two sessions. -Yes I am. 00:06:46.78\00:06:51.24 I know that cause I was involved in 00:06:51.25\00:06:54.09 getting you here for a second session. 00:06:54.10\00:06:57.06 Do you think that it's absolutely 00:06:57.18\00:06:59.24 necessary for everyone to have two sessions? 00:06:59.25\00:07:01.84 I don't know that everybody needs it but I have 00:07:03.54\00:07:06.78 been in such a dark place for such a long time. 00:07:06.79\00:07:10.06 I mean when you think twenty years 00:07:10.12\00:07:13.15 of being depressed and not really 00:07:13.16\00:07:16.00 knowing how to turn that around I feel 00:07:16.01\00:07:19.30 like I need more guidance in that area. 00:07:19.31\00:07:22.60 Yes. -What about the food? Have you enjoyed the food here? 00:07:23.24\00:07:28.27 I have enjoyed the food and I eat to my heart's content. 00:07:28.28\00:07:33.15 And it's okay. The doctors 00:07:33.24\00:07:34.75 say that it's fine, right? 00:07:34.76\00:07:36.18 Yes, and I'm losing weight 00:07:36.19\00:07:38.36 regardless of how much I eat. 00:07:38.37\00:07:40.66 Have you lost any inches, you think? 00:07:40.67\00:07:43.39 I haven't tried that one yet, we haven't looked at that. 00:07:43.40\00:07:47.51 We'll probably look at that at the 00:07:47.52\00:07:50.09 end of next session. -Okay, good. 00:07:50.10\00:07:52.42 Now, what about the other folks, 00:07:52.43\00:07:55.54 the staff, that you came in contact with? 00:07:55.55\00:07:59.42 The nurses, the exercise therapists, the dietician. 00:07:59.69\00:08:03.69 Did you have any positive results there? 00:08:03.70\00:08:09.21 The staff has been, just a real blessing. 00:08:09.45\00:08:14.39 I have never seen an unkind word come from them. 00:08:14.40\00:08:19.30 I mean, they're always there 00:08:19.48\00:08:21.06 encouraging you and praying with you when you're 00:08:21.07\00:08:23.21 having difficulties and it's just so 00:08:23.22\00:08:31.48 encouraging to know that people are praying for you. 00:08:31.49\00:08:36.75 And not just like right with you like when 00:08:37.21\00:08:40.24 they meet in between shifts and stuff like that, 00:08:40.25\00:08:43.57 they're praying for each of us, individually, 00:08:43.58\00:08:46.69 and I know it's working. I mean without prayer, 00:08:46.81\00:08:50.54 I don't think I'd be as far along as I am right now. -Amen. 00:08:50.55\00:08:55.12 Praise God and Amen. Thank God for the people and 00:08:55.33\00:08:59.33 those of us who are willing to be prayer warriors, 00:08:59.34\00:09:03.30 and certainly you can feel those, 00:09:03.31\00:09:06.60 maybe feeling is not the 00:09:06.61\00:09:09.00 right word but you're 00:09:09.01\00:09:11.09 witnessing this change in yourself. 00:09:11.10\00:09:14.42 I am, I am. -So do you feel confident now, 00:09:14.45\00:09:20.15 after being here 17 days, 00:09:20.16\00:09:22.87 that you've learned a new 00:09:22.88\00:09:25.36 lifestyle that you can stick to? 00:09:25.37\00:09:28.57 I have learned a new lifestyle. My biggest challenge now 00:09:28.72\00:09:34.30 is putting that lifestyle into practice when I leave Weimar. 00:09:34.31\00:09:38.48 It's easy when the structure is here 00:09:39.15\00:09:40.81 in front of you but when you go home, 00:09:40.82\00:09:44.18 it's a different story and it's 00:09:44.19\00:09:46.57 going to take a lot of prayer. 00:09:46.58\00:09:49.78 Well, I want to add a little encouragement to you. 00:09:49.79\00:09:52.87 I left Weimar, August of '05, at the end of an 18 day program. 00:09:52.88\00:09:59.45 My wife and I went home and we were off campus 00:09:59.66\00:10:03.15 here for about three years before we returned. 00:10:03.16\00:10:06.45 We were totally vegan and 00:10:07.00\00:10:08.36 still staying on the program. 00:10:08.37\00:10:10.42 So I want you to know 00:10:10.57\00:10:12.24 that you can do that. -Yes. 00:10:12.25\00:10:14.18 After this next 18 days, I'm 00:10:14.19\00:10:17.15 positive you're going to be able to do that. 00:10:17.16\00:10:19.39 So we've run out of time. 00:10:19.48\00:10:21.00 I want to thank you for being here. 00:10:21.01\00:10:23.00 Thank you. -We're going 00:10:23.12\00:10:24.33 to be talking with Dr. 00:10:24.34\00:10:25.45 Ing in just a moment. You know there's this 00:13:02.06\00:13:06.63 excellent article and this was published in 1980 or '81. 00:13:06.64\00:13:12.39 See that's an old article but they verified 00:13:12.54\00:13:14.81 something that we've heard from otherwise. 00:13:14.82\00:13:17.06 They had some people who were primarily vegetarians 00:13:17.30\00:13:21.84 and then they had them eat some meat, 00:13:21.85\00:13:24.63 fish, chicken and it was animal protein. 00:13:24.64\00:13:27.57 Then they went back to their vegetarian diet. 00:13:27.78\00:13:30.09 And the study was intially 00:13:30.33\00:13:32.12 designed to see what would happen to 00:13:32.13\00:13:34.42 their blood pressure and their 00:13:34.43\00:13:36.39 cholesterol and triglycerides and so on. 00:13:36.40\00:13:39.00 But someone along the way got the bright idea of checking 00:13:39.01\00:13:43.12 and seeing if this made a 00:13:43.13\00:13:45.00 difference in the individual's mood. 00:13:45.01\00:13:47.57 So they checked for factors like vigor, 00:13:48.00\00:13:51.75 fatigue, you know, anxiety, the negative parts. 00:13:51.76\00:13:56.33 And it was interesting that 00:13:56.66\00:13:59.00 when they were on the plant eating 00:13:59.01\00:14:00.51 phase compared with the meat 00:14:00.52\00:14:02.78 eating phase that vigor was much better, 00:14:02.79\00:14:07.24 their energy level was better, and anger, 00:14:07.66\00:14:10.84 fatigue and anxiety were much 00:14:10.85\00:14:13.21 higher during the meat eating phase, 00:14:13.22\00:14:16.00 than on the plant eating phase. 00:14:16.21\00:14:18.00 Aggressiveness. -Yeah that's very interesting. 00:14:18.01\00:14:20.39 Especially when we view that in line 00:14:20.40\00:14:22.48 with what Ellen White said about the 00:14:22.49\00:14:25.60 differences in temperament or mood when people 00:14:25.61\00:14:29.84 eat meat compared to when they don't eat meat. 00:14:29.85\00:14:32.27 And it's true. And also for parents who have children, 00:14:32.84\00:14:39.06 I submit to the parents, 00:14:39.07\00:14:41.78 if you want to raise your children, 00:14:41.79\00:14:45.69 It's going to be a lot easier to raise them on a 00:14:45.70\00:14:47.63 plant based diet than it is on the standard American diet. 00:14:47.64\00:14:51.12 All of our five children were raised like that. 00:14:51.39\00:14:53.69 They weren't angels. They weren't perfect. 00:14:53.70\00:14:55.75 But I would not want to face the challenges 00:14:56.03\00:14:59.42 if they were on the standard American diet. 00:14:59.43\00:15:02.75 I mean, it would've been much more challenging, I'm certain. 00:15:02.76\00:15:06.15 So if you want to make your life alot 00:15:06.21\00:15:08.39 simpler and alot easier, eat a plant based diet. 00:15:08.40\00:15:11.21 Now I don't want to present 00:15:11.51\00:15:14.51 NEWSTART as a place where people can come, 00:15:14.52\00:15:19.09 And all of a sudden they're going to be healed or 00:15:19.12\00:15:22.36 feeling better if they're in a state of depression. 00:15:22.37\00:15:25.66 However, we have dealt with folks in depression. 00:15:25.72\00:15:31.81 I for one, was one of them. I don't know if 00:15:32.18\00:15:34.63 you recall but I was depressed when I came here. 00:15:34.64\00:15:37.36 I kind of hit it a little bit, but I'm 00:15:37.42\00:15:40.36 watching people who are going through these changes, 00:15:40.37\00:15:44.30 and yet we hear of stories of 00:15:44.31\00:15:46.21 people who have been to psychotherapists, 00:15:46.22\00:15:48.75 psychologists, psychiatrists, and can't get any help. 00:15:48.76\00:15:52.12 Why is that? -You know, 00:15:52.13\00:15:55.27 it's an interesting question. 00:15:55.28\00:15:58.87 But the thing is, you know, the way we 00:15:59.12\00:16:01.33 think, has a profound influence on how we feel. 00:16:01.34\00:16:06.54 And what we choose to think about makes a big difference. 00:16:06.66\00:16:11.21 Now it's very true that we can't 00:16:11.27\00:16:12.66 control the thoughts that come into our mind, 00:16:12.67\00:16:15.69 but out of the ones that come into our mind, 00:16:15.75\00:16:18.33 we can choose and select 00:16:18.34\00:16:19.69 which ones we want to think about. 00:16:19.70\00:16:21.60 We can choose, for example, if you look at a glass that's 00:16:25.21\00:16:28.33 filled up to the midline, 00:16:28.34\00:16:29.69 is it half full or is it half empty? 00:16:29.70\00:16:31.66 And does that really make a difference? 00:16:31.72\00:16:34.00 I think it makes a profound difference 00:16:34.09\00:16:36.18 whether you are a pessimist or an optimist. 00:16:36.19\00:16:39.81 So attitude has a great deal to do with the healing 00:16:40.00\00:16:44.21 process of someone who's 00:16:44.22\00:16:46.42 suffering from depression, anxiety, or? 00:16:46.43\00:16:51.75 Are there others? -Well I 00:16:51.84\00:16:53.42 definitely think this has a big influence, 00:16:53.43\00:16:55.87 and when people realize that, if they understand that they can 00:16:56.06\00:17:00.39 choose to think differently, 00:17:00.40\00:17:02.39 I don't need to be so pessimistic, 00:17:02.40\00:17:04.69 and true, they can't always put that into 00:17:04.84\00:17:07.63 practice but the unique thing about our program is 00:17:07.64\00:17:10.87 that we can then call upon God to 00:17:11.09\00:17:13.42 help us to change the way that we think. 00:17:13.43\00:17:16.24 You know, we say it's a transformation. 00:17:16.57\00:17:20.24 So if I work together with the Lord, 00:17:20.48\00:17:22.72 I take some time to talk to the Lord each day, 00:17:22.73\00:17:25.57 He can change the way that I think, 00:17:25.78\00:17:27.69 my thought processes, if I'm willing to change. 00:17:27.70\00:17:30.21 Now, he can't change me if i don't want to change. 00:17:30.33\00:17:34.09 Yes. -If I'm 00:17:34.33\00:17:35.48 happy being unhappy, 00:17:35.49\00:17:37.33 you know, it's going to continue to be that way. 00:17:37.34\00:17:41.42 But the interesting thing is that we get 00:17:41.60\00:17:43.48 an opportunity to talk to these people. 00:17:43.49\00:17:45.27 They say, you know, I never realized that. 00:17:45.57\00:17:47.84 I didn't realize that I did things like that, 00:17:47.85\00:17:50.30 and I'm thinking of a guest from a previous program, 00:17:50.54\00:17:52.84 as we talked and shared some of these things, 00:17:52.85\00:17:54.42 he said, you know that makes good sense 00:17:54.43\00:17:56.51 and it does make a difference and so then, the other important 00:17:56.52\00:18:00.15 thing about working with people is 00:18:00.16\00:18:02.15 that we can ask them to make choices. 00:18:02.16\00:18:04.27 I don't say, well try to do this 00:18:04.30\00:18:07.36 because if people try to do this, 00:18:07.39\00:18:09.42 I recognize that in most cases they're going to fail. 00:18:09.43\00:18:12.81 I said, you've got to do more than try, 00:18:13.06\00:18:14.63 you've got to make a choice, 00:18:14.64\00:18:15.78 -Yes. -And once you make 00:18:15.81\00:18:17.36 the choice then you talk 00:18:17.37\00:18:18.81 to the one who can enable you to carry out the choice, 00:18:18.82\00:18:22.06 who empowers you to carry out your 00:18:22.09\00:18:24.06 choice and of course that's God. -Amen. 00:18:24.07\00:18:26.24 That's one of the big fundamental differences 00:18:26.30\00:18:29.72 between the NEWSTART program and a secular program. 00:18:29.73\00:18:33.60 Secular programs very carefully try 00:18:34.03\00:18:37.66 not to involve a higher power or God 00:18:37.67\00:18:41.42 but I know that all of us need God and if we're 00:18:41.51\00:18:45.33 willing to accept Him and let Him come in and work with Him, 00:18:45.34\00:18:50.09 marvelous things happen. -Amen. 00:18:50.45\00:18:53.39 You used a word there, Doc, that's come up 00:18:53.63\00:18:56.57 for me in years past and it's the word "try." 00:18:56.58\00:18:59.66 What I've learned in my life is that 00:19:00.15\00:19:03.12 trying is another word for not doing, 00:19:03.13\00:19:06.66 because when you try you're not committed, 00:19:06.81\00:19:10.45 you're not fully engaged, 00:19:10.46\00:19:12.54 and I'd like you to talk to our viewers 00:19:13.06\00:19:17.03 now about some of the things they can do, 00:19:17.04\00:19:21.75 because there's many people that can't get here. 00:19:21.76\00:19:24.15 For whatever the reasons, my heart goes out to you. 00:19:24.16\00:19:27.51 However I implore you, whatever you can do, 00:19:28.36\00:19:32.00 get here to our NEWSTART program , 00:19:32.01\00:19:34.69 but I also know that the doctor can give us some tips about what 00:19:34.70\00:19:39.48 you can do right in your home 00:19:39.49\00:19:41.66 so could you address that for us? 00:19:41.67\00:19:44.12 Well, I think one of the most important things 00:19:44.24\00:19:46.51 they can do is have a regular exercise program. 00:19:46.52\00:19:50.12 So exercise, and can we call 00:19:50.33\00:19:53.12 that something other than exercise for a moment? 00:19:53.13\00:19:56.03 Activity. -Activity. Okay so 00:19:56.04\00:19:57.54 Increase your activity level. 00:19:57.55\00:19:59.21 Increase your activity level, okay. That's number one. 00:19:59.22\00:20:02.15 So if you're not doing anything, you can start to move, 00:20:02.16\00:20:05.57 just getting up and moving around, 00:20:05.58\00:20:07.72 doing more walking around the home 00:20:07.73\00:20:09.84 even if we have people, sometimes I have people who, 00:20:10.12\00:20:13.12 when they come to NEWSTART, they can't 00:20:13.13\00:20:15.00 walk or stand up for more than a minute. 00:20:15.01\00:20:17.57 I say, I'll take that minute, 00:20:17.72\00:20:19.60 but I want you to do something for a minute, 00:20:19.61\00:20:22.36 rest for five or ten minutes, 00:20:22.37\00:20:25.18 and then get up and do something else for a minute, 00:20:25.19\00:20:27.33 and you know what if they do this, 00:20:27.48\00:20:29.09 we call this interval training. 00:20:29.10\00:20:30.45 Very rapidly within a few weeks they can do much, 00:20:31.39\00:20:34.06 much more and they have greater 00:20:34.07\00:20:36.06 endurance and they begin to feel better. 00:20:36.07\00:20:39.24 We can see this over and over again. 00:20:39.33\00:20:41.39 So that's like a piece of the puzzle. 00:20:41.42\00:20:43.66 Now we have just a little time left. 00:20:43.67\00:20:45.78 Give us another little piece. 00:20:46.09\00:20:47.66 Well another part is again making a choice 00:20:48.27\00:20:50.81 about how you want to think, choosing to be positive. 00:20:50.82\00:20:54.15 All of us have been hurt, we've been taken advantage of, 00:20:54.75\00:20:58.21 but don't dwell upon the negative, 00:20:58.22\00:21:00.27 dwell upon the positive. 00:21:00.28\00:21:01.66 You know, "a merry heart doeth good like a medicine." 00:21:01.69\00:21:04.09 You can choose to be healthy. Why do you want 00:21:04.27\00:21:06.78 to choose to be sad and gloomy all the time, 00:21:06.79\00:21:09.30 cause that's going to make you unhappy and feel bad. 00:21:09.31\00:21:12.21 Amen. Dr. Ing I want to thank you for joining us. 00:21:12.33\00:21:16.09 God Bless you and your work here at Weimar. 00:21:16.10\00:21:18.33 And folks, thank you for joining us. Don't go away 00:21:18.45\00:21:21.75 cause we have a tip for you immediately following this. 00:21:21.76\00:21:25.66 Hello, I'm Dr. David DeRose. That's my hope is 00:23:02.39\00:23:04.45 that we can get people to eat more healthy. 00:23:04.46\00:23:06.60 One of the challenges though is, alot of times people, 00:23:06.75\00:23:10.00 as they hear us talking about 00:23:10.01\00:23:11.33 the benefits of a vegetarian diet, 00:23:11.34\00:23:13.60 eating more fruits and vegetables, 00:23:13.61\00:23:15.51 they say, yeah, all these foods are so 00:23:15.52\00:23:17.15 healthy but to have some meat, 00:23:17.16\00:23:19.24 to have some dairy, these aren't really bad 00:23:19.25\00:23:21.51 as long as I'm eating lots of greens and other things. 00:23:21.57\00:23:24.63 Is that the message that we want to give? 00:23:24.64\00:23:27.00 You know, my thought on this and 00:23:27.27\00:23:29.30 as I've been doing alot research, 00:23:29.31\00:23:31.33 is that because disease is 00:23:31.34\00:23:33.03 increasing so much among animals, 00:23:33.04\00:23:35.03 We need to be getting a diet that's 00:23:35.15\00:23:37.54 basically plant-based and no dairy products, 00:23:37.55\00:23:40.51 no meat, no eggs, no cheese, that kind of food. 00:23:40.52\00:23:43.63 So you're saying to us, 00:23:43.72\00:23:45.12 as a physician, that you believe the 00:23:45.13\00:23:47.15 healthiest diet is one that 00:23:47.16\00:23:48.63 excludes all of these animal products? 00:23:48.64\00:23:50.72 Everything. -And why are 00:23:50.81\00:23:52.63 you so animate about this? 00:23:52.64\00:23:55.30 You know, if you look at some of the data 00:23:55.36\00:23:57.27 it's interesting that the way they're bringing 00:23:57.28\00:23:59.78 the cows to produce a hundred pounds of milk 00:23:59.79\00:24:02.75 when in nature they produce ten pounds of milk, 00:24:02.76\00:24:05.39 and they do that by feeding them high protein supplements 00:24:05.72\00:24:09.45 and alot of those high protein supplements actually 00:24:09.46\00:24:11.81 have chicken manure in it. It has chicken scraps in it. 00:24:11.82\00:24:14.42 They used to feed them beef scraps and ruminant 00:24:14.51\00:24:17.33 scraps back to the cows so that they would produce more, 00:24:17.34\00:24:20.57 but as you know, that caused something 00:24:20.60\00:24:22.75 called Mad Cow Disease so now that's illegal 00:24:22.76\00:24:25.24 but they can still feed the chickens beef scraps and 00:24:25.30\00:24:29.06 then the chickens are put 00:24:29.07\00:24:30.81 into the cow protein supplements. 00:24:30.82\00:24:33.18 But the average person is eating chicken anyway, 00:24:33.27\00:24:35.57 why should they care if the cow is eating some chicken too? 00:24:35.58\00:24:38.45 Is there some health concern? 00:24:38.46\00:24:39.81 The stress is on the utters of the cows 00:24:40.06\00:24:42.39 because they're geared, they're programmed, 00:24:42.40\00:24:45.60 they're fed to produce all this extra volume of 00:24:45.61\00:24:48.78 milk to make more money for the dairy industry. 00:24:48.79\00:24:52.00 Well is that bad as far 00:24:52.09\00:24:53.24 as the health of the milk? 00:24:53.25\00:24:54.45 Well, what happens is when the 00:24:54.48\00:24:56.18 cow's utter is stretched so drastically, 00:24:56.19\00:24:59.18 they become more prone to mastitis. 00:24:59.19\00:25:01.81 In fact, 79 percent are more prone due to the fact 00:25:01.82\00:25:05.66 that they're being injected by bovine growth hormones, 00:25:05.67\00:25:08.72 by the fact that they're getting this extra protein in the diet, 00:25:08.73\00:25:12.87 and they're being geared, so to speak, 00:25:13.03\00:25:15.84 to produce all of this extra milk. 00:25:15.85\00:25:18.42 So I mean, I can see someone 00:25:18.43\00:25:20.00 who's concerned about the cows, 00:25:20.01\00:25:21.57 who is sympathetic about the animals, 00:25:21.58\00:25:23.54 they're being stressed, they're having more infections, 00:25:23.55\00:25:26.39 but as far as the quality of milk, 00:25:26.48\00:25:28.03 I mean, is that going to change? 00:25:28.04\00:25:29.36 Absolutely, one hundred percent. I think the diseases 00:25:29.39\00:25:32.69 are being transmitted to the 00:25:32.70\00:25:34.42 cattle through these meat scraps. 00:25:34.43\00:25:36.36 Also, the utters are being stretched 00:25:36.42\00:25:38.54 which causes them to be prone to mastitis 00:25:38.55\00:25:40.84 so you're going to be getting possibly bacteria, 00:25:40.85\00:25:43.78 you're going to get antibiotic residues in the milk itself. 00:25:43.79\00:25:47.36 Okay, I think I'm seeing the connection, so in other words, 00:25:47.45\00:25:50.57 the cattle have this infection of the milk producing apparatus, 00:25:50.58\00:25:53.81 they'er getting more 00:25:53.82\00:25:54.84 antibiotics to treat the infection 00:25:54.85\00:25:56.51 and then those antibiotic residues end up in 00:25:56.54\00:25:58.72 the milk that the milk drinkers are consuming. 00:25:58.73\00:26:01.03 Absolutely and that's just the beginning of it. 00:26:01.04\00:26:03.45 There's other diseases too that are being now transmitted. 00:26:03.46\00:26:06.45 Seventy-five percent of the dairy herds today 00:26:06.48\00:26:09.63 have something called the bovine leukemia virus. 00:26:09.64\00:26:13.03 It's a very high rate. Twenty-five percent of all 00:26:13.12\00:26:16.03 cattle across the boards are carrying this virus. 00:26:16.04\00:26:18.75 Only five percent of them develop leukemia or a 00:26:18.76\00:26:21.75 lymphoma but it's being passed into the milk. 00:26:21.76\00:26:24.72 So in other words there's this virus that the cows have, 00:26:24.73\00:26:27.39 it goes in the milk and are you saying that if I drink it, 00:26:27.40\00:26:30.15 I can actually get this virus? 00:26:30.16\00:26:31.45 There is a doctor in Berkeley, School of Public Health, 00:26:31.46\00:26:36.78 and she tested 256 individuals, 00:26:36.79\00:26:39.69 she studied they're blood, did antibody tests, 00:26:39.70\00:26:42.48 and 191, 74 percent of those people 00:26:42.54\00:26:45.42 had the bovine leukemia virus antibodies 00:26:45.43\00:26:48.57 so they were getting that virus from dairy products. 00:26:48.60\00:26:52.03 Now were these all patients that had leukemia themselves? 00:26:52.12\00:26:55.00 No, these are just carriers of the virus. 00:26:55.03\00:26:57.15 We know that because they're carrying the virus, 00:26:58.18\00:27:01.36 they more of a chance of getting that 00:27:01.37\00:27:03.81 leukemia started in their blood system. 00:27:03.82\00:27:06.39 So are you telling me that 00:27:06.51\00:27:07.72 there's evidence or at least suggestions 00:27:07.73\00:27:09.45 that this cow/leukemia virus might 00:27:09.46\00:27:11.81 increase a human's risk of leukemia? 00:27:11.82\00:27:13.63 We've seen leukemia double, 00:27:13.64\00:27:15.36 lymphoma double in the last fifty years. 00:27:15.37\00:27:17.72 As the cow gets more leukemia, so will people. 00:27:18.12\00:27:21.36 A lot of sobering thoughts. It really points 00:27:21.54\00:27:24.36 us back to that original diet in Genesis 1:29 00:27:24.37\00:27:27.21 when God gave Adam and Eve fruits, 00:27:27.30\00:27:29.84 grains, vegetables. 00:27:29.85\00:27:31.33 It's still the healthiest diet today, 00:27:31.45\00:27:33.09 not only because those plant products are loaded 00:27:33.10\00:27:35.12 with good things but it helps you avoid many 00:27:35.13\00:27:37.00 of those harmful things and animal products. 00:27:37.01\00:27:38.72 I'm Dr. David DeRose. 00:27:38.73\00:27:40.06 If you want more information, go to 00:27:40.07\00:27:41.60 Well friends, that's it for today. 00:27:50.69\00:27:52.39 Thank you for joining us. 00:27:52.40\00:27:53.54 Pick up the phone and give us a call at 00:27:53.72\00:27:55.78 May the Lord bless you. 00:28:03.84\00:28:06.21
