Wow! 00:14:17.93\00:14:20.27 You just said a mouthful, 00:14:20.28\00:14:21.25 but I never looked at it that way. 00:14:21.26\00:14:23.49 And yet, you and she explained that, 00:14:23.50\00:14:26.31 it's not any one thing, it's a series of events, 00:14:26.32\00:14:30.81 it's a series of luxuries, 00:14:30.82\00:14:32.95 she said as you just heard, 00:14:32.96\00:14:35.05 everybody lend to her well-being 00:14:35.06\00:14:39.58 and she didn't leave anybody out. 00:14:39.59\00:14:40.98 No, she didn't, she is very careful not to 00:14:40.99\00:14:43.08 single anyone out, and I think-- 00:14:43.09\00:14:45.44 I thought it was you by the way. 00:14:45.45\00:14:46.68 No, you thought it was me? 00:14:46.69\00:14:47.91 I thought that you did a doctor something magical. 00:14:47.92\00:14:51.28 No, no, you know better than that, Ron. 00:14:51.29\00:14:53.25 No, I don't. What the issue is simply this, 00:14:53.26\00:14:56.36 see many people back home are not making progress, 00:14:56.37\00:15:00.54 tuning in today, you're saying, we'll look at. 00:15:00.55\00:15:02.96 I've got a great doctor, 00:15:02.97\00:15:04.53 I've got a great treatment team. 00:15:04.54\00:15:05.78 But the difference, Ron, is here it's not just 00:15:05.79\00:15:09.61 the doctors, not just the treatment team, 00:15:09.62\00:15:11.34 you are living with people, 00:15:11.35\00:15:12.98 and you are living with other people who are 00:15:12.99\00:15:14.45 taking the same journey 00:15:14.46\00:15:15.46 and you're ministering to one another. 00:15:15.47\00:15:17.29 Part of the healing journey is being a part 00:15:17.30\00:15:19.98 of someone else is healing. 00:15:19.99\00:15:21.79 And that's the part of the amazing thing about 00:15:21.80\00:15:24.02 the NEWSTART Program. 00:15:24.03\00:15:25.82 That's, that is just well-said, 00:15:25.83\00:15:27.77 and I agree with that, not only they're a part 00:15:27.78\00:15:30.78 of the team that's going through the same process, 00:15:30.79\00:15:34.00 but they're surrounded by loving, 00:15:34.01\00:15:36.99 fellow Christians if you will, 00:15:37.00\00:15:38.82 who have either gone through the process or 00:15:38.83\00:15:42.25 supporting them along that road. 00:15:42.26\00:15:44.10 And that's the one thing 00:15:44.11\00:15:45.31 I could say that we have here, 00:15:45.32\00:15:46.93 that people don't have any in the outside world. 00:15:46.94\00:15:49.47 All this love and this support and this prayer, etc. 00:15:49.48\00:15:53.44 But to move on further now, 00:15:53.45\00:15:56.12 I'd like to talk to you more about 00:15:56.13\00:15:59.33 the foods that we serve. 00:15:59.34\00:16:01.49 And are there special diets that we put people 00:16:01.50\00:16:04.76 on, is there a special lifestyle that we do here 00:16:04.77\00:16:08.40 for someone like with Lidiya's situation. 00:16:08.41\00:16:11.47 Most definitely, we actually have a general 00:16:11.48\00:16:15.62 approach to lifestyle here at Weimar. 00:16:15.63\00:16:17.41 So we have a standard diet, 00:16:17.42\00:16:19.27 but every person that comes through, 00:16:19.28\00:16:21.15 if they have a particular need for individual 00:16:21.16\00:16:23.84 variation in their diet. 00:16:23.85\00:16:25.79 We work with them on that. 00:16:25.80\00:16:27.14 Sometimes simply giving them instruction 00:16:27.15\00:16:29.08 as to what to eat. 00:16:29.09\00:16:30.66 We're not a program that rigidly controls 00:16:30.67\00:16:34.69 a person's options. 00:16:34.70\00:16:35.89 We have a liberal supply of food at our meals 00:16:35.90\00:16:40.06 and the individual though has the freedom to choose 00:16:40.07\00:16:43.04 what they want to eat, if they don't like apples, 00:16:43.05\00:16:45.24 they can choose the oranges that might be out there. 00:16:45.25\00:16:47.57 If they don't like oatmeal, 00:16:47.58\00:16:48.59 they can have the whole wheat toast or they can 00:16:48.60\00:16:51.24 have the tofu, the scrambled tofu. 00:16:51.25\00:16:53.92 Someone says well, that's disgusting, 00:16:53.93\00:16:55.53 there might be beans being served, 00:16:55.54\00:16:58.71 or there might be a stir fry or a Mexican dish, 00:16:58.72\00:17:02.04 or an Italian dish. 00:17:02.05\00:17:03.60 What the point is though 00:17:03.61\00:17:04.67 when it comes to depression, 00:17:04.68\00:17:05.87 one of the real key factors is Omega 3 fats. Yes. 00:17:05.88\00:17:09.25 These have brain health enhancing benefits, 00:17:09.26\00:17:11.64 and as I work with the Lidiya, 00:17:11.65\00:17:13.14 one of the goals that we had is really keeping her 00:17:13.15\00:17:15.36 Omega 3 fat intake high during the program. 00:17:15.37\00:17:18.34 Whether was through specific choices 00:17:18.35\00:17:20.39 she was making in the dining room, 00:17:20.40\00:17:21.92 or whether was through using supplement Omega 3 sources, 00:17:21.93\00:17:25.61 one that we commonly use is ground flaxseed 00:17:25.62\00:17:28.40 and sometimes even flaxseed oil, 00:17:28.41\00:17:30.16 if we're really trying to boost 00:17:30.17\00:17:31.90 that Omega 3 fat intake. 00:17:31.91\00:17:34.05 Now we do use flaxseed ground, 00:17:34.06\00:17:37.14 as I do at home everyday. 00:17:37.15\00:17:40.48 Is it recommended that we could use flaxseed oil 00:17:40.49\00:17:43.87 for people with diabetes or cardiovascular disease? 00:17:43.88\00:17:47.74 Well, the oil itself, I mean, 00:17:47.75\00:17:49.49 of course has a concentrated amount of the fat. 00:17:49.50\00:17:51.78 It's probably three or four times as much 00:17:51.79\00:17:54.37 of the fatty acid per tablespoon 00:17:54.38\00:17:56.81 than the ground flax, 00:17:56.82\00:17:57.80 now the ground flax has some benefits 00:17:57.81\00:17:59.87 that the oil doesn't have. 00:17:59.88\00:18:00.85 It has fibers, that actually can be 00:18:00.86\00:18:03.04 beneficial for cholesterol lowering 00:18:03.05\00:18:04.87 and other things. 00:18:04.88\00:18:06.00 So we're always work with an individual, 00:18:06.01\00:18:08.37 we're trying to as physicians or as our 00:18:08.38\00:18:11.48 dietician does, or as it's explained in general 00:18:11.49\00:18:15.06 lectures in the cooking classes. 00:18:15.07\00:18:16.75 We're trying to help people understand 00:18:16.76\00:18:19.11 what's going on in their body, 00:18:19.12\00:18:20.75 understand the general principles 00:18:20.76\00:18:22.48 and then translate that into action. 00:18:22.49\00:18:24.29 So someone who is a fan, 00:18:24.30\00:18:26.53 may be doesn't have heart problem, 00:18:26.54\00:18:28.18 may be they've a lot of inflammation. 00:18:28.19\00:18:30.15 We may recommend some additional Omega 3 fat as 00:18:30.16\00:18:34.01 an oil like flaxseed oil. Got you. 00:18:34.02\00:18:36.21 For someone else may be we don't want to, 00:18:36.22\00:18:38.30 then they get so many calories, 00:18:38.31\00:18:39.69 they don't need the anti-inflammatory effect 00:18:39.70\00:18:42.15 as much, but they would benefit 00:18:42.16\00:18:44.98 from the whole flaxseed. 00:18:44.99\00:18:47.02 Rule of thumb, Ron, is the whole food is the 00:18:47.03\00:18:51.09 best optional unless there is a specific reason 00:18:51.10\00:18:53.66 why we're recommending an isolated product. 00:18:53.67\00:18:56.08 And so many of the people with weight problem, 00:18:56.09\00:18:58.01 but we're not wanting them to eat lots of high fat, 00:18:58.02\00:19:00.73 or supplemental oils for example. 00:19:00.74\00:19:04.31 Doctor, I'm curious now, we know that you have 00:19:04.32\00:19:08.26 a certain procedure as a doctor 00:19:08.27\00:19:10.31 when you're visiting with new patients. 00:19:10.32\00:19:14.89 Is the procedure different with people 00:19:14.90\00:19:17.35 who have a mental or, I use the term mental disorder, 00:19:17.36\00:19:23.63 'cause I don't know what else to call it. 00:19:23.64\00:19:26.27 Is there any procedures that are different? 00:19:26.28\00:19:28.27 Well, Ron, anytime we see a patient, the, 00:19:28.28\00:19:31.52 what we call the history and the physical are 00:19:31.53\00:19:33.99 really focused on the what we call presenting 00:19:34.00\00:19:37.64 complaint or chief complaint. 00:19:37.65\00:19:39.61 And so I'm gonna take a history differently 00:19:39.62\00:19:42.33 of someone who has pain in the right lower 00:19:42.34\00:19:46.03 part of their abdomen. 00:19:46.04\00:19:47.56 Then someone who's coming with shoulder pain 00:19:47.57\00:19:49.47 or with depression or some other mental health issue. 00:19:49.48\00:19:52.46 So we'll take a lot of time speaking about 00:19:52.47\00:19:56.03 the constellation of things that may affect that 00:19:56.04\00:19:59.33 presenting problem. 00:19:59.34\00:20:00.31 So you ask about mental health issues, 00:20:00.32\00:20:03.10 a lot of things that we might talk about 00:20:03.11\00:20:04.68 in that context would be lifestyle, 00:20:04.69\00:20:06.92 lifestyle factors that may be contributing to things. 00:20:06.93\00:20:09.70 Was there an inciting event 00:20:09.71\00:20:12.07 where you're healthy mentally, 00:20:12.08\00:20:14.20 and than did something happen. 00:20:14.21\00:20:15.48 Was there a deaf in the family? 00:20:15.49\00:20:18.05 Did you know, your boyfriend leave you? 00:20:18.06\00:20:20.24 Did your girlfriend kick you out of the house? 00:20:20.25\00:20:23.07 Whatever the situation might be, 00:20:23.08\00:20:25.38 and spiritual history is very important, 00:20:25.39\00:20:27.39 especially when it comes to mental health issues. 00:20:27.40\00:20:29.67 If a person doesn't feel spiritually connected, 00:20:29.68\00:20:33.77 they're wondering if there is a God, 00:20:33.78\00:20:35.52 if they're wondering if there's something beyond 00:20:35.53\00:20:38.19 this life, I mean, those are all things that could 00:20:38.20\00:20:39.93 tip us in this specific needs as a person would 00:20:39.94\00:20:42.33 need to have addressed. 00:20:42.34\00:20:44.15 And so during your evaluation you more or 00:20:44.16\00:20:48.25 less can tell that they need a specific need in 00:20:48.26\00:20:51.56 this area or that area, and you of course go 00:20:51.57\00:20:55.72 along those lines. 00:20:55.73\00:20:56.99 Yeah, that's goal, the goal of that the history 00:20:57.00\00:20:59.20 and then the physical exam, 00:20:59.21\00:21:00.40 because there are actually physical causes 00:21:00.41\00:21:02.21 of mental health problems. 00:21:02.22\00:21:03.86 One that is commonly seen is B12 deficiency. Yes. 00:21:03.87\00:21:07.43 That can cause a variety of mental health issues, 00:21:07.44\00:21:10.43 including the things that look like dementia 00:21:10.44\00:21:12.54 and memory problems. 00:21:12.55\00:21:13.86 So the bottom line, history, physical exam, 00:21:13.87\00:21:17.71 appropriate lab test help us to narrow down 00:21:17.72\00:21:20.11 specific treatment course. 00:21:20.12\00:21:21.92 Doctor, I want to thank you, 00:21:21.93\00:21:23.26 I feel like I can take the exam 00:21:23.27\00:21:25.51 and pass the board right now. 00:21:25.52\00:21:26.75 Thank you for that information. Okay. 00:21:26.76\00:21:28.77 We're running out of time, we got to go. 00:21:28.78\00:21:30.99 But don't go away we've a tip for you. 00:21:31.00\00:21:32.65 Hello, I'm Dr. David DeRose. 00:21:34.46\00:21:37.15 You know, helping a friend, 00:21:37.16\00:21:38.42 neighbor or relative have better health 00:21:38.43\00:21:40.67 is one of the most practical forms 00:21:40.68\00:21:42.44 of health ministry available. 00:21:42.45\00:21:44.47 However, if you're not a health professional, 00:21:44.48\00:21:46.19 it can be extremely difficult to know 00:21:46.20\00:21:48.39 how to help someone access reliable, credible, 00:21:48.40\00:21:51.38 up to date health information. 00:21:51.39\00:21:54.09 That's why I recommend the NEWSTART Lifestyle Club, 00:21:54.10\00:21:57.08 the club is based on the world's famous 00:21:57.09\00:21:59.26 NEWSTART principles that have helped millions be 00:21:59.27\00:22:01.73 well naturally without the use of drugs. 00:22:01.74\00:22:04.25 The club offers streaming video, 00:22:04.26\00:22:06.04 expert health advice, 00:22:06.05\00:22:07.32 wellness tips, tools and more. 00:22:07.33\00:22:09.90 And when it comes to ministry, 00:22:09.91\00:22:11.46 the NEWSTART Lifestyle Club provides a way 00:22:11.47\00:22:13.61 for sponsor churches and health organizations 00:22:13.62\00:22:16.08 that connect with club members 00:22:16.09\00:22:17.65 in their own communities. 00:22:17.66\00:22:19.88 If you would like to learn more about how 00:22:19.89\00:22:21.42 the NEWSTART Lifestyle Club can make a difference 00:22:21.43\00:22:23.85 in your health outreach, call 1-800-525-9192 00:22:23.86\00:22:29.53 and ask for your free copy 00:22:29.54\00:22:31.31 of Health Evangelism Made Simple. 00:22:31.32\00:22:33.84 Welcome to NEWSTART at home, 00:22:50.79\00:22:52.22 I'm Dr. David DeRose, with me today is someone 00:22:52.23\00:22:54.98 who's got some answers for muscle tension headache. 00:22:54.99\00:22:58.21 His name is Jerry Flores. 00:22:58.22\00:23:00.07 Jerry, it's great to have you with us today. 00:23:00.08\00:23:01.79 It's great to be here. 00:23:01.80\00:23:02.85 Many of our viewers know you, 00:23:02.86\00:23:04.87 you're one of our main hydro therapist and 00:23:04.88\00:23:07.77 massage therapist at Weimar Center of Health & Education. 00:23:07.78\00:23:10.48 And you and I both know being in the medical field, 00:23:10.49\00:23:13.62 muscle tension headaches are huge 00:23:13.63\00:23:16.30 problems even people 00:23:16.31\00:23:17.66 who think that they've migraines 00:23:17.67\00:23:19.23 often have a lot tension in their neck and head muscles. 00:23:19.24\00:23:22.96 Is there really anything simple we can offer 00:23:22.97\00:23:25.58 people with this problem? 00:23:25.59\00:23:26.75 Yes, there is and one of the solutions 00:23:26.76\00:23:30.21 to that is that most people 00:23:30.22\00:23:32.41 don't stretch on a regular basis. 00:23:32.42\00:23:35.03 And that's the reason tension builds up 00:23:35.04\00:23:37.45 when muscles are nice and relaxed, 00:23:37.46\00:23:39.90 and they got optimal blood flow they don't 00:23:39.91\00:23:43.42 ache, but when we have bad postural habits 00:23:43.43\00:23:47.02 of stooping our head, of just to working 00:23:47.03\00:23:49.41 on the computer, washing the dishes, or driving. 00:23:49.42\00:23:52.35 What ends up happening is that all of our ache neck 00:23:52.36\00:23:56.39 muscles, and some of the chest, shoulder, 00:23:56.40\00:23:59.31 and upper back, and even lower back muscles 00:23:59.32\00:24:01.69 tightening up, restrict blood flow and most 00:24:01.70\00:24:05.23 people also dehydrate 00:24:05.24\00:24:06.51 if they're drinking enough water. 00:24:06.52\00:24:08.25 So that builds up tension by pulling 00:24:08.26\00:24:11.83 and it tightens up. 00:24:11.84\00:24:13.46 Therefore, the term muscle tension headache. 00:24:13.47\00:24:15.88 Okay, so one of the principles that we're 00:24:15.89\00:24:18.45 trying to coming to grips with here then, Jerry, 00:24:18.46\00:24:20.95 is we just got to be more limber if you want to 00:24:20.96\00:24:23.70 have less problems with muscle tension. 00:24:23.71\00:24:25.47 Right, and right now I'm gonna to demonstrate 00:24:25.48\00:24:30.17 and if you like, you can follow along. 00:24:30.18\00:24:31.92 And I'm just gonna show what we do at 00:24:31.93\00:24:34.38 our NEWSTART Program at 6 am in the morning. 00:24:34.39\00:24:36.94 And we get people and that's what we start with 00:24:36.95\00:24:39.66 stretching our head, shoulders, 00:24:39.67\00:24:42.37 and our chest, and back. 00:24:42.38\00:24:43.63 Okay, I'm ready to try to follow along. 00:24:43.64\00:24:46.44 Okay, all right, so I'm just gonna show what we do. 00:24:46.45\00:24:48.54 And it's very simple, you just put your head, 00:24:48.55\00:24:51.28 your hand over your head 00:24:51.29\00:24:52.45 and we call this ear to shoulder, 00:24:52.46\00:24:55.24 and then you can just massage 00:24:55.25\00:24:56.83 it gently on your side of your neck, 00:24:56.84\00:24:58.96 like that and then. 00:24:58.97\00:25:00.85 So we're just rubbing on there, Jerry?
