Wow! 00:12:59.44\00:13:03.10 Her thing was we were looking at that for about a week 00:13:03.11\00:13:06.55 and then suddenly she just started going downhill. 00:13:06.56\00:13:09.98 She was having a lot of nausea, 00:13:09.99\00:13:15.70 and she was having weakness, 00:13:15.71\00:13:17.12 she was having whatever and we couldn't figure out, 00:13:17.13\00:13:19.94 you know, what's going on here, 00:13:19.95\00:13:21.98 what medication? And you know, 00:13:21.99\00:13:24.17 the cancer medications normally will give you sign, 00:13:24.18\00:13:27.88 you know, you've heard the things about chemotherapy. 00:13:27.89\00:13:31.30 And her doctor didn't want us to stop that one; 00:13:31.31\00:13:35.41 it's not one of the hardcore chemotherapy medications. 00:13:35.42\00:13:38.72 But what it does is it blocks the estrogen 00:13:38.73\00:13:41.79 and estrogen like hormones from stimulating the cancer. 00:13:41.80\00:13:46.06 Now she said that, 00:13:46.07\00:13:47.04 she has had cancer in the breast 20 years ago, 00:13:47.05\00:13:50.20 that would have been wonderful, 00:13:50.21\00:13:52.03 if at 20 years ago she had been vegan, 00:13:52.04\00:13:54.69 I think she wouldn't be here in this situation today. 00:13:54.70\00:13:57.84 But that's neither here nor there, so. 00:13:57.85\00:14:00.48 Well, I think it's important 00:14:00.49\00:14:02.42 for our viewers to understand. 00:14:02.43\00:14:04.66 For those people who are out there today, 00:14:04.67\00:14:07.16 they could become vegan. 00:14:07.17\00:14:08.46 Yeah and they just had cancer operations, 00:14:08.47\00:14:09.46 they need to do this we can help them if they can. 00:14:09.47\00:14:14.08 But anyway getting back to her, 00:14:14.09\00:14:16.04 so she was just, she was just bedridden again 00:14:16.05\00:14:19.97 after being here for about five or six days. 00:14:19.98\00:14:23.02 So I just stopped all of her medication, 00:14:23.03\00:14:24.91 including her cancer medication. 00:14:24.92\00:14:27.05 Because for three days, 00:14:27.06\00:14:28.03 it wasn't going to make that much difference. 00:14:28.04\00:14:30.41 And so then we waited to see and sure enough, 00:14:30.42\00:14:33.17 she got stronger and she wasn't nauseated anymore 00:14:33.18\00:14:36.71 she was able to eat. 00:14:36.72\00:14:38.03 Now that could have been any kind of, 00:14:38.04\00:14:39.43 that could have been a virus 00:14:39.44\00:14:40.62 or it could have been anything. 00:14:40.63\00:14:42.09 But we did after three days, 00:14:42.10\00:14:43.54 we put her back on her cancer medication, 00:14:43.55\00:14:45.96 which is really, it's just something 00:14:45.97\00:14:48.01 that blocks estrogen, Tamoxifen, 00:14:48.02\00:14:51.12 and Arimidex and these different ones 00:14:51.13\00:14:54.00 that are really, the ones that they're using. 00:14:54.01\00:14:58.53 Now with her situation, 00:14:58.54\00:15:01.03 her blood sugar did go way up. 00:15:01.04\00:15:03.77 And so we were going to follow it 00:15:03.78\00:15:06.19 and we're going see. 00:15:06.20\00:15:07.18 So, she is kind of on the border-line is, 00:15:07.19\00:15:09.30 if she is going to be able to make it. 00:15:09.31\00:15:11.01 When she, as far as the diabetes is concerned 00:15:11.02\00:15:15.35 and her blood sugars were coming down now. 00:15:15.36\00:15:17.68 The fasting blood sugar, 00:15:17.69\00:15:18.95 when she came in on four different medications 00:15:18.96\00:15:23.39 was a 165 and off of all four of her medications, 00:15:23.40\00:15:27.50 when they took out of the vein was a 155. 00:15:27.51\00:15:30.76 So off of four medications, 00:15:30.77\00:15:33.10 she was just slightly lower than she was on all four. 00:15:33.11\00:15:36.34 So we were watching that, 00:15:36.35\00:15:37.32 I told her probably that she might need 00:15:37.33\00:15:39.53 just a bit of long acting diabetes. 00:15:39.54\00:15:42.62 But we're here to more to talk about 00:15:42.63\00:15:43.99 her cancer and other things. Yeah. 00:15:44.00\00:15:45.81 Now what happened with her, 00:15:45.82\00:15:48.77 was she was having all of these problems with her heart 00:15:48.78\00:15:51.90 and she went in, this was about March of last year. 00:15:51.91\00:15:56.00 And so they found out that she was having a heart attack. 00:15:56.01\00:15:59.94 Well you know, when they started doing these things 00:15:59.95\00:16:02.08 they did the angiography, 00:16:02.09\00:16:04.91 they put the stent in to keep her from having, 00:16:04.92\00:16:09.35 you know, a lot of damage to her myocardium 00:16:09.36\00:16:12.05 and that's a very valid thing to do. 00:16:12.06\00:16:14.72 But sometimes when they start checking 00:16:14.73\00:16:16.98 all these different things they find out the other stuff 00:16:16.99\00:16:20.06 that they didn't check before. 00:16:20.07\00:16:21.34 You know, at her age, 00:16:21.35\00:16:23.35 they're not going to do as much of a work up on somebody 00:16:23.36\00:16:26.30 like this that they would do on a 25 year old 00:16:26.31\00:16:29.04 or 30 year old that had cancer like that. 00:16:29.05\00:16:31.73 So they were just trying to do the usual things. 00:16:31.74\00:16:34.51 And it had been 20 years since she had her cancer 00:16:34.52\00:16:37.63 and I'm sure they told her that she was cured. 00:16:37.64\00:16:40.09 But to me, and I've said this before, 00:16:40.10\00:16:42.88 when you've had cancer, 00:16:42.89\00:16:44.64 the cancer can always be there 00:16:44.65\00:16:46.99 and I have seen people 30 years later 00:16:47.00\00:16:48.88 die of their cancer, same one that they had before. 00:16:48.89\00:16:51.73 So I don't ever like to have anybody told that 00:16:51.74\00:16:55.32 they're cancer cured, that's very comforting, 00:16:55.33\00:16:57.71 but then the lifestyle isn't important. 00:16:57.72\00:17:00.36 So coming back to that, 00:17:00.37\00:17:01.36 so she has the diabetes, 00:17:01.37\00:17:04.57 which is going to increase her risk of heart disease, 00:17:04.58\00:17:07.43 then she has what they told her, 00:17:07.44\00:17:09.12 I don't know how bad the heart attack was, 00:17:09.13\00:17:11.54 but they put a stent in, and they were looking around, 00:17:11.55\00:17:14.59 here they find that this cancer 00:17:14.60\00:17:16.31 is just off of her body. 00:17:16.32\00:17:18.72 Now what her doctor did tell her was that 00:17:18.73\00:17:21.40 we can't stop your cancer, but we can slow it down. 00:17:21.41\00:17:25.77 And she did tell her, she said, you know, 00:17:25.78\00:17:27.18 you're amazing for being you know 00:17:27.19\00:17:31.96 a person here with stage four. 00:17:31.97\00:17:33.71 She keeps saying, type-four, but she did say stage four, 00:17:33.72\00:17:37.42 stage four means that it's spread in a certain distance, 00:17:37.43\00:17:40.72 and I mean, 00:17:40.73\00:17:41.70 it was in lot of the organs and stuff like that. 00:17:41.71\00:17:44.77 Now the thing is that, 00:17:44.78\00:17:46.90 when she came here we gave her fever therapy, 00:17:46.91\00:17:49.97 when she got over her nausea, 00:17:49.98\00:17:51.67 she was able to eat and she really does like the food. 00:17:51.68\00:17:54.83 I told her that she is going to continue to lose 00:17:54.84\00:17:56.67 some more weight that's not going hurt her diabetes. 00:17:56.68\00:17:59.62 We don't want her to lose a lot of weight, 00:17:59.63\00:18:02.08 but see all of these different things are what we've seen. 00:18:02.09\00:18:05.26 Now, the idea about her being cured or whatever 00:18:05.27\00:18:10.05 I think that her attitude is just right. 00:18:10.06\00:18:12.80 I think that she needs to trust 00:18:12.81\00:18:14.87 our loving heavenly Father. 00:18:14.88\00:18:17.37 And she said, look when it's time for me to go 00:18:17.38\00:18:21.25 and it's His time for me. 00:18:21.26\00:18:23.24 But I emphasize while she was here, you know, Yolanda, 00:18:23.25\00:18:27.35 the Lord can't do your part, 00:18:27.36\00:18:30.07 He can't follow you around and take food out of your mouth 00:18:30.08\00:18:32.99 and put other food in your mouth. 00:18:33.00\00:18:34.77 That's your part, ask Him to help you with that. 00:18:34.78\00:18:37.30 But He can cure you, He can heal you. 00:18:37.31\00:18:40.43 But most importantly what He can do is that 00:18:40.44\00:18:44.29 He can give you a really good quality of life 00:18:44.30\00:18:48.24 for the amount that you have left. 00:18:48.25\00:18:50.09 And that's what we're trying to do it 00:18:50.10\00:18:52.50 you know, right now she has a wonderful attitude. 00:18:52.51\00:18:55.63 And she really was, 00:18:55.64\00:18:57.87 she was very short of breath, because of all the, 00:18:57.88\00:19:00.65 you know, the secretions she had in her lungs 00:19:00.66\00:19:02.68 and all the disease she has and so forth. 00:19:02.69\00:19:05.06 So we're rejoicing with her. 00:19:05.07\00:19:07.08 Whatever God has in mind for her. 00:19:07.09\00:19:08.84 Well, let me ask you, doctor, is there anything about raw 00:19:08.85\00:19:16.23 which I've read in the past, as it relates to cancer. 00:19:16.24\00:19:21.59 Well, the thing is that there are many, 00:19:21.60\00:19:25.33 there are many, there's dozens of different studies 00:19:25.34\00:19:29.48 that have shown that when you have 00:19:29.49\00:19:31.54 more fruits and vegetable in your diet, 00:19:31.55\00:19:36.67 your cancer risks go way down. 00:19:36.68\00:19:39.28 And if you look at the raw, 00:19:39.29\00:19:41.30 that's what you're eating is fruits and vegetables. 00:19:41.31\00:19:44.59 Okay, so we, if she sprouts the beans, 00:19:44.60\00:19:47.81 if she sprouts the grains or makes some softer, 00:19:47.82\00:19:50.14 so that she can eat it. 00:19:50.15\00:19:51.81 Now she won't do that for the rest of her life. 00:19:51.82\00:19:53.72 But if she learns how to do it for as long as she can, 00:19:53.73\00:19:57.20 some people do it two or three months. 00:19:57.21\00:19:59.08 That's what we were doing 00:19:59.09\00:20:00.06 when we started our cancer program. 00:20:00.07\00:20:03.55 When she learns to do that instead of just having 00:20:03.56\00:20:06.05 a side of something raw, 00:20:06.06\00:20:08.04 she is eating as much raw as she can, 00:20:08.05\00:20:10.75 and then those are the fruits and the vegetables 00:20:10.76\00:20:12.96 that are going to help her to fight the cancer. 00:20:12.97\00:20:14.71 So then cancer can't survive on broccoli? 00:20:14.72\00:20:19.89 Well, this is my postulate, 00:20:19.90\00:20:22.78 these cells are out of control 00:20:22.79\00:20:24.62 and they have to keep multiplying and dividing 00:20:24.63\00:20:27.47 and they have to keep growing. 00:20:27.48\00:20:29.34 And so if they need all of these heavy proteins 00:20:29.35\00:20:32.71 and we see that the meats and the milks and the eggs 00:20:32.72\00:20:35.37 and all this stuff is the proteins 00:20:35.38\00:20:38.25 that they really need, they really want, 00:20:38.26\00:20:40.24 they want that high protein. Right. 00:20:40.25\00:20:41.78 So that they can grow fast and they can grow. 00:20:41.79\00:20:44.04 We know that proteins stimulate growth. 00:20:44.05\00:20:46.60 And so when they don't get that 00:20:46.61\00:20:48.75 then the body itself can get stronger. 00:20:48.76\00:20:50.86 The immune system is more healthy 00:20:50.87\00:20:52.79 and then it can be fight better. 00:20:52.80\00:20:54.08 It's not conventional wisdom, 00:20:54.09\00:20:56.14 but if you look at all the literature, you'll see. 00:20:56.15\00:20:59.09 Through the years I have been following this 00:20:59.10\00:21:00.48 for more than 30 years. 00:21:00.49\00:21:01.97 And that's the cancer programs that are the very best 00:21:01.98\00:21:06.02 when they have all the fruits and vegetables in them. 00:21:06.03\00:21:10.45 I want thank you, doctor, for joining us here on the set. 00:21:10.46\00:21:14.24 It's always good to see you. 00:21:14.25\00:21:15.62 And friends, thank you, 00:21:15.63\00:21:16.71 but don't go way we have a tip for you, right now. 00:21:16.72\00:21:21.66 Hello, I'm Dr. David DeRose. 00:21:21.67\00:21:24.29 You know, helping a friend, neighbor or relative 00:21:24.30\00:21:26.85 have better health is one of the most practical forms 00:21:26.86\00:21:29.41 of health ministry available. 00:21:29.42\00:21:31.62 However, if you're not a health professional, 00:21:31.63\00:21:33.52 it can be extremely difficult to know 00:21:33.53\00:21:35.33 how to help someone access reliable, 00:21:35.34\00:21:37.81 credible, up to date health information. 00:21:37.82\00:21:41.00 That's why I recommend the NEWSTART Lifestyle Club, 00:21:41.01\00:21:44.47 the club is based on the world's famous 00:21:44.48\00:21:46.20 NEWSTART principles that have helped millions 00:21:46.21\00:21:48.65 be well naturally without the use of drugs. 00:21:48.66\00:21:51.35 The club offers streaming video, 00:21:51.36\00:21:53.12 expert health advice, wellness tips, tools and more. 00:21:53.13\00:21:56.90 And when it comes to ministry, 00:21:56.91\00:21:58.46 the NEWSTART Lifestyle Club provides a way 00:21:58.47\00:22:00.49 for sponsor churches and health organizations 00:22:00.50\00:22:03.16 that connect with club members in their own communities. 00:22:03.17\00:22:07.02 If you would like to learn more about 00:22:07.03\00:22:08.30 how the NEWSTART Lifestyle Club 00:22:08.31\00:22:10.08 can make a difference in your health outreach, 00:22:10.09\00:22:12.27 call 1800-525-9192 and ask for your free copy 00:22:12.28\00:22:18.24 of Health Evangelism Made Simple. 00:22:18.25\00:22:21.84 Hello, and welcome to NEWSTART at home, 00:22:38.23\00:22:40.27 we're glad that you are with us today. 00:22:40.28\00:22:41.51 And we are also glad that Dr. Doug Plata is with us. 00:22:41.52\00:22:44.30 Welcome, doctor. Thank you, appreciate it. 00:22:44.31\00:22:46.10 You are an urgent care physician, 00:22:46.11\00:22:47.70 also do occupational medicine, in other words a lot of, 00:22:47.71\00:22:51.78 you know, people see you right 00:22:51.79\00:22:53.88 when they really are having an issue 00:22:53.89\00:22:55.88 that maybe as painful, 00:22:55.89\00:22:56.86 something they can't deal with it at home. 00:22:56.87\00:22:59.66 And you're a family practice physician 00:22:59.67\00:23:01.20 in preventive med as well. 00:23:01.21\00:23:03.65 And we're talking in this little series 00:23:03.66\00:23:05.25 about foreign bodies in the eye. 00:23:05.26\00:23:08.53 And we talked already about dust and like wood chips 00:23:08.54\00:23:12.46 or different things like that. 00:23:12.47\00:23:13.51 You shared a technique about how taking that eyelid 00:23:13.52\00:23:16.08 over the top of the other one and then, 00:23:16.09\00:23:18.85 of course, the idea of flushing the eye out. 00:23:18.86\00:23:21.76 But we want to talk this time about what if I get, 00:23:21.77\00:23:23.79 people get like a metal spec, 00:23:23.80\00:23:25.47 something in their eye like that. 00:23:25.48\00:23:26.96 You know maybe they're out in the shop 00:23:26.97\00:23:28.43 and they're grinding on something 00:23:28.44\00:23:29.65 and something gets into the eye. 00:23:29.66\00:23:32.34 And again, the most important thing to do 00:23:32.35\00:23:34.31 is try to irrigate it out, 00:23:34.32\00:23:36.53 and I think the key thing with metals, 00:23:36.54\00:23:39.12 because they can actually potentially develop, 00:23:39.13\00:23:42.33 actually sort of spread on the surface eye and develop, 00:23:42.34\00:23:44.21 it's called a rust ring. 00:23:44.22\00:23:45.99 And that would require to actually, 00:23:46.00\00:23:47.96 you know, removal, it's something that's probably 00:23:47.97\00:23:49.89 an ophthalmologist might want to do. 00:23:49.90\00:23:52.41 So it's sort of a different category 00:23:52.42\00:23:54.19 and the key there is do go ahead 00:23:54.20\00:23:57.31 and try to get to a doctor right away, 00:23:57.32\00:23:59.35 so that it doesn't cause this rust ring. 00:23:59.36\00:24:01.87 Does the rust start to develop just almost immediately or? 00:24:01.88\00:24:05.06 You know, in very shortly and I've noticed that 00:24:05.07\00:24:07.95 I can even go ahead and take out the metal foreign body 00:24:07.96\00:24:12.53 even if it's three or four hours 00:24:12.54\00:24:13.92 and I see that sometimes little portions of it 00:24:13.93\00:24:16.50 will still remain behind 00:24:16.51\00:24:17.55 and that's a risk of developing this. 00:24:17.56\00:24:19.26 So can they just called the ophthalmologist, 00:24:19.27\00:24:21.16 if they one, but if what they don't, 00:24:21.17\00:24:22.98 they need to referral from someone like you? 00:24:22.99\00:24:26.06 Yeah, sometimes, it all depends on insurance plans, 00:24:26.07\00:24:28.14 of course. But I would say probably it's best to go 00:24:28.15\00:24:31.66 to an urgent care to be able to be seen, 00:24:31.67\00:24:33.46 you know, right away. 00:24:33.47\00:24:34.44 Or if you can get into your primary care physician, 00:24:34.45\00:24:36.61 family physician, to be able to have it seen immediately, 00:24:36.62\00:24:39.50 they can deal it with as well. 00:24:39.51\00:24:41.33 So number one, you try and flush it out with water, 00:24:41.34\00:24:45.28 number two, you try and get that foreign body 00:24:45.29\00:24:47.16 out yourself if you can. Right. 00:24:47.17\00:24:48.91 And then number three you head to your office 00:24:48.92\00:24:51.28 or someone that has a slit lamp 00:24:51.29\00:24:52.45 they can really look closely. Yeah. 00:24:52.46\00:24:54.68 And then go from there. Yeah. 00:24:54.69\00:24:57.85 Let's talk about another thing that sometimes 00:24:57.86\00:25:00.40 happens to the eyes and that's a person 00:25:00.41\00:25:02.07 that maybe is helping another person weld, 00:25:02.08\00:25:04.85 or you know, when I was in the ER, 00:25:04.86\00:25:08.31 we saw that a lot. What do you with that? 00:25:08.32\00:25:11.44 Now, are you talking about the flash burns 00:25:11.45\00:25:14.06 or you talking about things. 00:25:14.07\00:25:15.95 Yeah, the flash burns. 00:25:15.96\00:25:16.93 Okay, yeah, you know, this is it's a fairly limited, 00:25:16.94\00:25:20.46 not too many people are dealing with this. 00:25:20.47\00:25:22.54 But it can basically cause an inflammation, 00:25:22.55\00:25:25.51 the bright light can cause an inflammation 00:25:25.52\00:25:27.78 of the eye, the iris. 00:25:27.79\00:25:29.83 And that's something that's going to need 00:25:29.84\00:25:31.39 more intensive treatment, often times medicines 00:25:31.40\00:25:36.39 and an ophthalmologist would work on that. 00:25:36.40\00:25:39.19 And is that something where they had to get in right away? 00:25:39.20\00:25:42.69 I would say, the sooner the better, basically, yeah. 00:25:42.70\00:25:46.42 We probably also want to mention about acid 00:25:46.43\00:25:49.44 and basic substances that get in the eye. 00:25:49.45\00:25:51.87 Yes, let's talk about that. 00:25:51.88\00:25:52.85 So if you got a chemical or maybe you're washing 00:25:52.86\00:25:55.30 and you see, you see that it's, 00:25:55.31\00:25:57.12 the cleaning fluid gets into your eye. 00:25:57.13\00:25:58.49 You know like Clorox would be particularly, 00:25:58.50\00:26:01.23 you know, common but worries someone. 00:26:01.24\00:26:03.38 And, this is something that again, 00:26:03.39\00:26:06.25 as with many things of getting in the eye. 00:26:06.26\00:26:08.21 The key is to go ahead and irrigate the eye. 00:26:08.22\00:26:10.35 And especially if it's some sort of chemical substance 00:26:10.36\00:26:13.30 like that, you really need to irrigate 00:26:13.31\00:26:16.04 for a long period of time 15, 30 minutes would be good. 00:26:16.05\00:26:20.59 And then, you know, of course immediately go ahead 00:26:20.60\00:26:22.66 and have it seen even if you've 00:26:22.67\00:26:24.66 really irrigated it well. 00:26:24.67\00:26:25.70 So let's say it's my one year old 00:26:25.71\00:26:27.19 and he is like screaming bloody murder, 00:26:27.20\00:26:29.07 do I just, and I feel so bad, because he is crying. Right. 00:26:29.08\00:26:33.08 Do I just keep irrigating regardless of him screaming? 00:26:33.09\00:26:36.54 By all means. You know, it's tough, 00:26:36.55\00:26:39.40 but you got to do it. 00:26:39.41\00:26:40.70 I mean, if you have to hold him down, 00:26:40.71\00:26:42.16 force open the eye and pouring it in, 00:26:42.17\00:26:43.67 you know, do what it takes, but I mean, the kid's vision, 00:26:43.68\00:26:47.44 I mean, vision is one of the most important things 00:26:47.45\00:26:49.73 that we have been given, 00:26:49.74\00:26:50.71 we want to do what we can to protect it. 00:26:50.72\00:26:52.11 So like if the parent the mom or dad are saying, 00:26:52.12\00:26:54.39 no, please don't that. You say, wait a minute, 00:26:54.40\00:26:56.66 you reason with them but you just keep... 00:26:56.67\00:26:58.81 Yeah, yeah. 00:26:58.82\00:26:59.79 Getting the fluid there. 00:26:59.80\00:27:01.26 And you told me something else, you said, 00:27:01.27\00:27:02.89 that the eye is one of the most vascular areas and... 00:27:02.90\00:27:05.76 It's one of the fastest healing, 00:27:05.77\00:27:07.24 it's like three layers and in about three days' abrasions, 00:27:07.25\00:27:11.68 the scratches on the surface eye, you know, 00:27:11.69\00:27:13.73 they clear up and it's pretty remarkable. 00:27:13.74\00:27:17.61 That's resilient as they say. Yes. 00:27:17.62\00:27:19.70 We've been talking with Dr. Doug Plata 00:27:19.71\00:27:21.45 and we've been talking about foreign bodies in the eye. 00:27:21.46\00:27:24.04 It's some very useful information, very practical. 00:27:24.05\00:27:26.25 We hope that you enjoy this kind of information here 00:27:26.26\00:27:29.55 on newstartclub.com. 00:27:29.56\00:27:31.56 There is many different topics that you can access 00:27:31.57\00:27:34.05 and tell your friends about us and tell them 00:27:34.06\00:27:36.93 about the practical information you receiving here. 00:27:36.94\00:27:39.01 Thanks for being with us, doctor.
