We have people with diabetes, 00:00:39.49\00:00:42.30 high blood pressure, neuropathy, cardio this and cardio that. 00:00:42.63\00:00:47.78 Some disease we can't even identify. 00:00:47.79\00:00:50.39 In this case, she has come here to prevent disease. 00:00:50.40\00:00:55.06 Let's look at the clip of when she first arrived. 00:00:55.07\00:00:58.06 At work being a nurse, I was under tremendous 00:00:58.87\00:01:01.87 amounts of stress. I would work 12 hour shifts 00:01:01.88\00:01:04.42 I would come home 8, 8:30 at night. 00:01:04.43\00:01:06.69 Be famished from a whole day of working, 00:01:06.70\00:01:08.81 not drinking enough water, stayed dehydrated. 00:01:08.82\00:01:11.51 Then you start getting headaches, 00:01:11.52\00:01:12.57 which I was experiencing. 00:01:12.72\00:01:14.84 Then I was eating supper 8, 8:30 at night. 00:01:14.85\00:01:17.57 Than I just started packing on the pounds. 00:01:17.63\00:01:19.45 I was a size 8 when I graduated from nursing school, 00:01:19.48\00:01:21.75 and then it just kinda slowly progressed. 00:01:22.12\00:01:24.69 I finally realized that I've got to take charge. 00:01:24.78\00:01:28.09 I really felt convicted from God 00:01:28.27\00:01:30.21 that I really needed to take my health 00:01:30.22\00:01:32.06 and make it a top priority, 00:01:32.07\00:01:33.54 so that I could effectively witness to others. 00:01:33.57\00:01:35.57 If I'm not living the lifestyle 00:01:35.58\00:01:37.81 and what I know is right, 00:01:38.06\00:01:40.33 Then how can I effectively witness 00:01:40.60\00:01:42.57 and share that with others? 00:01:42.60\00:01:43.84 Especially being a nurse. 00:01:43.85\00:01:44.84 What I would like to accomplish is, 00:01:45.06\00:01:46.30 basically get and stay on a regular 00:01:46.31\00:01:49.57 exercise program. I've exercised a lot in the past, 00:01:49.58\00:01:53.48 but I really need to stay on a consistent level. 00:01:53.78\00:01:56.45 I would like to be walking 5 or 6 miles a day or more. 00:01:56.75\00:02:01.06 Yesterday I walked 3 miles and I felt great, 00:02:01.07\00:02:03.21 I also started taking out suppers yesterday. 00:02:03.51\00:02:07.51 I thought that I was going to be famished 00:02:08.06\00:02:10.12 and that it was going to be awful 00:02:10.13\00:02:12.24 but it went really well and I feel great today. 00:02:12.33\00:02:15.72 I just plan on cutting down on the total calories 00:02:16.12\00:02:20.33 that I've been taking in, and just doing much 00:02:20.34\00:02:22.33 more exercising. I'm so exited because of the support 00:02:22.34\00:02:24.66 that I feel here and the christian atmosphere. 00:02:24.67\00:02:27.39 and just the love 00:02:27.51\00:02:28.51 that is shown by all of the staff members. 00:02:28.52\00:02:30.54 Welcome back friends, and in our studio 00:02:33.42\00:02:35.39 Amy how are you? -good 00:02:35.40\00:02:36.87 It is so good to see you. 00:02:36.88\00:02:38.51 You've got just a beautiful smile. 00:02:39.06\00:02:40.78 -That clip almost made me cry a little bit. 00:02:41.30\00:02:44.33 -Me too 00:02:44.34\00:02:45.33 Well, people are wondering, 00:02:46.33\00:02:48.18 she's young, and attractive. 00:02:48.19\00:02:50.54 She has a good job and so on, 00:02:50.55\00:02:52.57 but behind the scenes, there are other things going on. 00:02:53.09\00:02:56.12 I'd like to adress that for a little bit. 00:02:56.48\00:02:58.36 We know you came here to loose weight, 00:02:58.37\00:03:00.15 to get a grip on your food intake 00:03:00.66\00:03:03.12 so you don't end up with diabetes 00:03:03.13\00:03:05.75 or cardiovascular disease. -Correct 00:03:05.76\00:03:07.81 What else is going on? So I changed realtors 00:04:02.58\00:04:04.48 and within 3 months the house sold. 00:04:04.49\00:04:06.06 -Wow, so you got the right realtor, 00:04:06.27\00:04:08.24 You sold your house, 00:04:08.51\00:04:09.51 You are using your proceeds 00:04:09.81\00:04:10.84 to pay off your bills to go to Belize. 00:04:10.85\00:04:13.39 -Bolivia -Bolivia excuse me 00:04:13.87\00:04:15.78 Now, I heard a rumor and 00:04:16.21\00:04:18.48 It's all over campus now. 00:04:18.49\00:04:21.21 That you were playing basketball the other day? 00:04:21.54\00:04:23.84 -Yeah Did you teach young guys 00:04:24.84\00:04:26.66 a thing or too? 00:04:26.67\00:04:27.84 -Well I don't know about that. 00:04:27.85\00:04:29.30 What happened was last Sunday evening 00:04:29.31\00:04:31.87 I saw one of the college students 00:04:31.88\00:04:33.78 shooting hoops by himself. So I thought. 00:04:34.06\00:04:36.75 "Hey I'll go play too, that sounds like fun." 00:04:36.76\00:04:39.63 So I asked if I could play. 00:04:39.81\00:04:41.42 We went back and forth shooting hoops. 00:04:41.43\00:04:44.84 Than 6 other guys came. 00:04:44.85\00:04:46.36 They wanted to play some basketball 00:04:46.66\00:04:49.30 so I thought my time was finished. 00:04:49.31\00:04:51.78 so I'll just graciously leave. 00:04:51.79\00:04:53.42 Well they had only 7 guys and they needed one more. 00:04:53.63\00:04:56.15 I played and had a great time 00:04:56.75\00:04:59.39 and once they realized that I could make a few shots, 00:04:59.57\00:05:01.84 they started passing the ball to me more. 00:05:02.21\00:05:03.66 -What teem won? 00:05:03.67\00:05:04.66 -Well they won. 00:05:05.48\00:05:07.36 -But you got 8 points I know. 00:05:07.37\00:05:09.48 -right, the first game we lost by about 7 points 00:05:09.72\00:05:12.57 because we played to 14 or 15. 00:05:12.58\00:05:14.66 Than the second game we only lost by about 2 or 3 points 00:05:15.18\00:05:17.27 so we did a lot better. 00:05:17.33\00:05:18.36 It was a lot of fun. 00:05:18.37\00:05:19.42 -Here is a gal that comes to learn the NEWSTART program 00:05:19.43\00:05:22.45 That is teaching our college students how to play basketball. 00:05:22.81\00:05:26.36 How about that folks. 00:05:26.60\00:05:27.72 -Well I don't know if I'd go that far but it was great! 00:05:27.78\00:05:29.78 I just had to add that in. 00:05:29.87\00:05:32.06 I'm sure everybody learned something. 00:05:32.07\00:05:34.51 So while you've been here I know that 00:05:34.78\00:05:37.21 you look so vivacious and full of energy, 00:05:37.45\00:05:41.87 were you always like this? 00:05:42.39\00:05:44.30 -I did have a lot of energy before 00:05:45.30\00:05:47.06 but I was wearying down. 00:05:47.07\00:05:48.18 I feel so much better now. 00:05:48.30\00:05:49.69 I feel revived spiritually, emotionally, physically 00:05:49.75\00:05:52.48 and it has been a huge blessing. 00:05:52.75\00:05:54.51 -What do you attribute this too? 00:05:56.63\00:05:58.09 Well I tell you what. 00:05:58.78\00:06:00.06 I'm eating a lot bigger breakfasts now, 00:06:00.30\00:06:02.06 which is making me feel so much better. 00:06:02.07\00:06:03.84 I've continued cutting out the suppers. 00:06:04.24\00:06:06.09 I think one time I had some fruit 00:06:06.15\00:06:07.57 because I was hungry. 00:06:08.06\00:06:09.51 but I tell what, I feel so much better. 00:06:09.54\00:06:11.69 I've lost almost 10 pounds. -Wow 00:06:11.70\00:06:15.48 I'm on my way and I'm feeling so much better. 00:06:16.12\00:06:19.21 So much energy, and yeah. 00:06:19.42\00:06:22.27 Also walking 6 miles a day 00:06:22.81\00:06:24.27 I've gotten up to my goal. 00:06:24.28\00:06:25.27 Yesterday Linda and I 00:06:25.39\00:06:26.69 walked frontier trail and back, 00:06:26.70\00:06:28.87 and up cardiac hill 00:06:29.06\00:06:30.15 -Alright 00:06:30.45\00:06:31.45 Now about the program here. 00:06:31.63\00:06:34.12 What is it or was it, about the program that you liked the most. 00:06:34.13\00:06:38.69 Well what I really need is, 00:06:39.18\00:06:40.48 I really need to be more disciplined 00:06:40.49\00:06:41.66 and on a consistent schedule, 00:06:41.67\00:06:43.30 because at work, I work 12 hour shifts 00:06:43.78\00:06:45.60 and than the days off I would sleep in 00:06:45.61\00:06:47.72 I wasn't on a consistant schedule. 00:06:47.73\00:06:49.51 I really needed to be more disciplined 00:06:49.52\00:06:51.60 in my routine and that has been a huge blessing. 00:06:52.09\00:06:54.72 I feel so much better. I feel better when I wake 00:06:54.73\00:06:57.15 up in the morning. 00:06:57.16\00:06:58.48 I am going to continue this. 00:06:58.49\00:06:59.54 It has really changed me for the better. 00:07:00.30\00:07:04.06 Now what can you tell our younger audience, 00:07:04.69\00:07:07.33 that they can perhaps gain by attending 00:07:08.15\00:07:11.87 the NEWSTART program? 00:07:12.27\00:07:13.48 Basically, 00:07:17.78\00:07:18.78 The best thing that I could say is that, 00:07:19.72\00:07:22.15 Being raised an Adventist, 00:07:22.69\00:07:24.06 I knew most of the health principles when I came. 00:07:24.07\00:07:28.24 I wasn't living them. 00:07:28.60\00:07:30.30 There is a lot of peer pressure 00:07:30.51\00:07:31.87 in a lot of churches and social circles. 00:07:31.88\00:07:34.33 to eat cheese pizzas and a lot of different things. 00:07:35.06\00:07:38.42 You feel almost like a outcast in some circles 00:07:38.78\00:07:41.51 if you become a vegan 00:07:41.52\00:07:42.72 because there is so much peer pressure. 00:07:42.87\00:07:44.81 Obviously not here at NEWSTART 00:07:44.87\00:07:46.69 because the lifestyle is so great. 00:07:46.70\00:07:48.54 but in some areas. I don't think I'd be very good at it. 00:13:24.09\00:13:26.54 -but she is young and she can do that. 00:13:27.27\00:13:29.54 -Are you implying that I'm not? 00:13:30.18\00:13:32.66 No no you're good. -You didn't say that 00:13:32.81\00:13:34.57 You realize that if you were lying there in bed, 00:13:40.84\00:13:42.66 say you were in a automobile accident 00:13:42.67\00:13:45.06 or you just had a MRI or something like that, 00:13:45.07\00:13:47.12 and a nurse comes up to you with her demeanor 00:13:47.57\00:13:50.63 Would that make you feel better? 00:13:51.06\00:13:52.27 -Oh absolutely it would make me feel better. 00:13:52.39\00:13:54.69 She has that look of confidence about her 00:13:55.18\00:13:58.24 because she knows what she is suppose to do. 00:13:58.25\00:13:59.75 -Yeah 00:14:00.15\00:14:01.15 and this is the person 00:14:02.66\00:14:04.42 that is not only 00:14:05.09\00:14:06.69 good at what she does, 00:14:07.33\00:14:09.36 and knowledgeable 00:14:09.66\00:14:11.33 but she is also going to dedicate some years of her life, 00:14:12.51\00:14:18.24 to helping people in South America. 00:14:18.78\00:14:20.63 -She has committed 5-10 years of her life. 00:14:20.78\00:14:22.84 Yeah but when you think of that, 00:14:23.06\00:14:25.54 when you think of the implications 00:14:25.60\00:14:28.15 and stuff like that, 00:14:28.16\00:14:29.27 people would look at her and say, 00:14:29.42\00:14:31.33 Do you think you are doing the right thing Amy? 00:14:31.60\00:14:34.45 -Right 00:14:34.46\00:14:35.45 What did Jesus do for us? -Yeah 00:14:35.46\00:14:37.84 When she gets back she will be so glad she went. 00:14:38.15\00:14:41.12 You heard how she felt God was leading her. 00:14:41.45\00:14:45.06 I'm sure He is. 00:14:45.51\00:14:47.06 She put out the fleece like she said. 00:14:47.48\00:14:49.45 Here she is going to go. 00:14:49.72\00:14:51.06 When she comes back 5, 10 years 00:14:51.30\00:14:53.54 or however long God has her there for. 00:14:53.55\00:14:55.69 Maybe after a year something will come up but 00:14:56.06\00:14:58.51 Thank of the joy and happiness 00:14:58.63\00:15:00.72 that will be in her life. 00:15:00.73\00:15:02.63 Sometimes we don't realize how 00:15:02.64\00:15:06.09 important this part of it is for us in our health. 00:15:06.10\00:15:10.69 The problem is, for the people out there listening, 00:15:11.84\00:15:15.15 they might think that the cholesterol number, 00:15:15.48\00:15:18.09 sugar number, blood pressure number, 00:15:18.39\00:15:22.06 and the waist measurement are the 00:15:22.27\00:15:24.33 most important part of their health. 00:15:24.34\00:15:27.12 The most important part of anyone's health, 00:15:27.60\00:15:30.15 is their relationship with Jesus. 00:15:30.75\00:15:32.54 -Amen 00:15:32.55\00:15:33.54 -And why is that? 00:15:33.55\00:15:34.75 Because we as Americans and all over the world, 00:15:35.09\00:15:38.21 and I've been to a few places, 00:15:38.22\00:15:39.39 We all need rest and peace in our heart. 00:15:39.81\00:15:43.30 That is one of the things that Amy 00:15:44.27\00:15:46.27 increased while she was here. 00:15:46.28\00:15:47.81 She had time to strengthen her relationship with the Lord. 00:15:47.82\00:15:51.81 and so she did that. 00:15:51.84\00:15:53.18 At some point doctor, and maybe this is the point. 00:15:53.75\00:15:56.66 I would like to elaborate a little more because 00:15:57.30\00:15:59.78 we see people come through the program, 00:16:00.30\00:16:02.27 we've talked about this, we wonder, 00:16:02.63\00:16:04.72 how is this possible? How did they get well? 00:16:04.73\00:16:07.66 Doctors on the outside couldn't even find out 00:16:08.39\00:16:10.87 what was wrong with them. We couldn't either. 00:16:10.88\00:16:13.06 But yet they came here and got well. 00:16:13.30\00:16:15.09 We know that it's God's hand on Weimar. 00:16:15.54\00:16:18.72 I just know that in my heart. 00:16:18.73\00:16:20.36 God brought me here 00:16:20.78\00:16:22.30 to find a way back home. 00:16:22.78\00:16:26.06 -All through the Bible we here about the great physician. 00:16:26.12\00:16:30.27 It is wonderful that we understand 00:16:31.48\00:16:34.06 that God has a way 00:16:34.39\00:16:35.81 that is different that man's way. 00:16:36.60\00:16:39.06 He didn't just say you guys just figure it out, 00:16:39.66\00:16:42.54 He gave us some pretty specific instructions. 00:16:43.06\00:16:45.63 We need to figure it out and do it. 00:16:46.60\00:16:49.36 I don't want to sound negative or anything, 00:16:51.81\00:16:54.06 but there are a lot of people 00:16:54.07\00:16:55.24 that make New Year's resolutions 00:16:56.15\00:16:58.54 There are even jokes made about New Year's resolutions 00:17:00.45\00:17:04.33 like, do you expect that you are 00:17:04.81\00:17:06.36 going keep that resolution for 24 hours? 00:17:06.37\00:17:09.24 I don't think God wants us to make New Year's resolutions. 00:17:09.63\00:17:14.36 Do you know what I think he wants us to do? 00:17:14.37\00:17:16.27 -What's that 00:17:16.28\00:17:17.27 I think he wants us to get on our knees 00:17:17.28\00:17:19.48 and humbly ask him to go before the father and 00:17:20.57\00:17:24.63 ask for a special blessing. 00:17:26.57\00:17:28.87 Ask that He will give us a promise. 00:17:31.33\00:17:34.66 that will be His eternal promise to us. 00:17:36.75\00:17:39.42 That we might have the victory 00:17:41.06\00:17:42.54 and that's how we receive it. 00:17:42.55\00:17:44.06 We receive it as a gift. 00:17:44.07\00:17:45.27 Not by standing up and saying, 00:17:45.78\00:17:47.66 I'm going to do this even if it kills me. 00:17:47.67\00:17:50.72 Now it is good to confess 00:17:52.84\00:17:56.06 and make announcements an stuff like that 00:17:56.07\00:17:58.09 Always say, 00:17:58.33\00:17:59.63 By God's Grace or 00:18:00.57\00:18:02.09 This is my request that I make of the Lord. 00:18:02.39\00:18:05.78 I think the reason that we fail so much 00:18:07.84\00:18:10.57 is because the adversary comes 00:18:11.18\00:18:12.87 and takes us and just rubs our face down and just grinds 00:18:12.88\00:18:17.18 us with it and when we are overwhelmed with guilt, 00:18:17.19\00:18:20.78 than the battle is all over with. 00:18:20.79\00:18:22.39 Now back to your question. What was it? 00:18:23.06\00:18:24.69 I'd rather keep talking about this 00:18:25.78\00:18:28.48 -This is something that has been weighing on my heart for 00:18:29.09\00:18:31.78 a while because for example tonight, 00:18:32.06\00:18:35.36 we are going to have a banquet, 00:18:35.37\00:18:36.42 and almost everyone who as come through here, 00:18:37.36\00:18:40.06 at that banquet the Holy Sprit it there. 00:18:40.57\00:18:43.54 We can sense his presence. 00:18:43.55\00:18:45.27 There is a unity almost like an upper room experience. 00:18:45.28\00:18:48.12 -Yes 00:18:48.13\00:18:49.12 When the people go from that room, 00:18:50.39\00:18:52.84 they are determined that for the rest of their life, 00:18:53.30\00:18:55.63 they are going to be 100% perfect and do everything right. 00:18:55.64\00:18:59.36 If that's the way it was, 00:18:59.75\00:19:01.42 and Amy and I talked about that this morning. 00:19:02.27\00:19:04.45 If that's the way it was, 00:19:04.78\00:19:06.21 and say you were 8 months of age 00:19:06.72\00:19:10.12 or 18 months when you started walking, 00:19:10.13\00:19:12.42 what if the first step you took you fell, 00:19:12.81\00:19:15.87 which your probably did, everybody does, 00:19:15.88\00:19:19.45 and you said to yourself, this doesn't work 00:19:19.78\00:19:23.30 I'm not going to try that again. 00:19:23.31\00:19:25.60 How many people would be walking? 00:19:25.61\00:19:28.09 We would all be in wheelchairs or whatever. 00:19:28.54\00:19:31.27 Ok we'll go back to the medical now. 00:19:31.51\00:19:33.33 She didn't tell you all of the different things but, 00:19:34.54\00:19:36.78 There is a lot of heart problems and diabetes 00:19:36.79\00:19:41.27 in her family. 00:19:41.28\00:19:44.21 and she might have said that on her first interview 00:19:44.22\00:19:46.66 Her mother has been able to control it 00:19:47.09\00:19:49.45 after going to one of our reversing diabetes programs. 00:19:49.46\00:19:53.87 She has been able to control it with diet, exercise, 00:19:53.88\00:19:57.63 and lifestyle. Her father died when he was 52. 00:19:57.64\00:20:01.27 It was a heart condition. 00:20:02.06\00:20:03.45 They don't really know exactly why he had that. 00:20:03.69\00:20:06.36 but there are others in her family that have had 00:20:06.69\00:20:08.27 bypass surgery and coronary artery disease. 00:20:08.28\00:20:10.69 Here is somebody that is medical enough, 00:20:11.36\00:20:15.87 intelligent enough and dedicated enough 00:20:16.66\00:20:19.63 to donating her body as a living sacrifice 00:20:20.09\00:20:24.15 to the Lord and He is going to help her. 00:20:24.39\00:20:26.15 -Amen 00:20:26.42\00:20:27.42 He is going to help her and she is going to reach her goals. 00:20:27.43\00:20:29.69 When she gets to heaven, 00:20:30.09\00:20:31.51 it is going to be more than she ever realized. 00:20:32.69\00:20:35.75 -Praise God. 00:20:36.27\00:20:37.27 Doctor I feel your sincerity 00:20:38.09\00:20:40.45 whenever we talk like this, 00:20:40.84\00:20:42.66 I just want to lift up the people who are watching 00:20:43.00\00:20:45.63 and my prayer right now, 00:20:46.42\00:20:49.06 Is that there are so many out there 00:20:49.42\00:20:51.30 that we hear from constantly. 00:20:51.31\00:20:52.66 They write letters to me, 00:20:53.12\00:20:54.60 we get phone calls, 00:20:54.87\00:20:56.36 I just want them to be lifted up to God 00:20:56.75\00:20:59.09 and under His wing and under His care. 00:20:59.54\00:21:01.75 -Always 00:21:01.76\00:21:02.75 That whatever their needs are. They are fulfilled. 00:21:03.36\00:21:05.72 -I'm so glad that you are helping with the followup. 00:21:06.12\00:21:08.60 That means so much to a person. 00:21:08.78\00:21:10.69 -Yes and it's my pleasure. 00:21:11.06\00:21:13.66 -and to here your testimony 00:21:13.67\00:21:15.15 Doctor I want to thank you for coming to out program. 00:21:15.48\00:21:18.30 -It is always my pleasure. 00:21:18.31\00:21:20.15 God bless you -Thank you 00:21:20.16\00:21:21.21 Friends thank you for joining us but don't go away 00:21:21.51\00:21:24.24 We have a tip for you right now. 00:21:24.60\00:21:26.78 Hello and welcome to NEWSTART At Home, 00:21:41.63\00:21:43.48 we are glad that you are with us today 00:21:43.54\00:21:44.81 and we are also glad that Dr. Doug Plata is with us 00:21:44.84\00:21:47.51 Welcome doctor. -Thank you, appreciate it. 00:21:47.52\00:21:49.45 You're an urgent care physician 00:21:49.46\00:21:51.18 and you also do occupational medicine 00:21:51.19\00:21:52.66 In other words, a lot of people see you 00:21:52.67\00:21:56.42 when they are having an issue that is painful 00:21:56.43\00:22:00.06 and something that they can't deal with at home. 00:22:00.07\00:22:02.54 You are also a family practice physician 00:22:02.75\00:22:04.57 in preventive medicine as well. 00:22:04.58\00:22:06.21 We are talking in this little series about 00:22:06.54\00:22:08.81 foreign bodies in the eye. 00:22:08.82\00:22:10.78 We already talk about dust, 00:22:11.33\00:22:13.30 and wood chips and different things like that. 00:22:14.06\00:22:17.30 You shared a technique of taking that 00:22:17.31\00:22:19.57 eyelid over the top of the other one 00:22:19.58\00:22:22.15 as well as the idea of flushing the eye out. 00:22:22.16\00:22:25.45 This time we want to talk about if they get a metal speck 00:22:25.46\00:22:29.09 something in their eye like that. 00:22:29.10\00:22:30.54 -Maybe they are out in the shop and grinding on something 00:22:30.55\00:22:33.06 and something gets into the eye. 00:22:33.07\00:22:35.09 Again the most important thing to do is try to irrigate it out. 00:22:35.33\00:22:38.87 I think the key thing with metals is, 00:22:39.60\00:22:42.21 they can potentially develop and spread on the surface eye 00:22:42.22\00:22:47.33 and develop what is called a rust ring. 00:22:47.34\00:22:48.60 That would require to actually remove it 00:22:49.15\00:22:52.30 something a opthamologist might want to do. 00:22:52.31\00:22:55.36 Sort of a different category and the key there is, 00:22:55.51\00:22:59.48 to try to get to a doctor right away 00:22:59.57\00:23:02.48 so that it doesn't cause this rust ring. 00:23:02.49\00:23:04.84 Does the rust start to develop almost immediately? 00:23:05.24\00:23:08.21 Very shortly. I've noticed that I can take out 00:23:08.36\00:23:12.78 the metal foreign body 00:23:12.79\00:23:15.48 even after 3 or 4 hours but sometimes 00:23:15.75\00:23:18.60 little portions of it will still remain behind, 00:23:18.61\00:23:21.06 and that's a risk. 00:23:21.07\00:23:22.33 So can they just call a opthamologist if they have one, 00:23:22.34\00:23:25.24 but what if they don't? Do they need a referral 00:23:25.25\00:23:27.21 from someone like you? 00:23:27.22\00:23:28.27 Yes sometimes, it all depends on insurance plans of of course. 00:23:28.28\00:23:31.81 I would say it's probably best to go to a 00:23:31.82\00:23:35.27 urgent care to be able to be seen right away. 00:23:35.28\00:23:37.63 or if you can get into your primary care physician, 00:23:37.64\00:23:39.78 family physician, to be able to see it immediately. 00:23:39.79\00:23:42.69 They can deal with it as well. 00:23:42.70\00:23:44.18 So number 1 you try to flush it out with water, 00:23:44.69\00:23:48.30 number 2 you try to get that foreign body out yourself, 00:23:48.31\00:23:51.06 if you can. -right 00:23:51.07\00:23:52.24 and number 3 you head to your office 00:23:52.25\00:23:54.57 or someone that has a slit lamp 00:23:54.58\00:23:55.66 that can really look closely. -Yeah 00:23:55.67\00:23:57.87 and than go from there. 00:23:57.88\00:24:00.42 Let's talk about another thing 00:24:01.21\00:24:03.33 that sometimes happens to the eyes. 00:24:03.34\00:24:05.06 How about a person that is helping another person weld. 00:24:05.07\00:24:08.54 When I was in the ER we saw a lot of that. 00:24:09.06\00:24:11.78 What do you do if that happens? 00:24:11.79\00:24:13.57 -Are you talking about the flash burns? 00:24:14.36\00:24:17.15 or are you talking about things in the eye. 00:24:17.16\00:24:19.69 -Yeah the flash burns 00:24:19.70\00:24:20.84 It is fairly limited. Not too many people 00:24:22.27\00:24:24.87 are dealing with this but, 00:24:24.88\00:24:26.12 The bright light can cause an inflammation 00:24:26.51\00:24:30.60 of the eye, the iris. 00:24:30.61\00:24:32.39 That is something that is going to need intensive treatment. 00:24:32.72\00:24:36.72 Oftentimes medicines and an opthamologist 00:24:37.12\00:24:40.81 would work on that. 00:24:40.82\00:24:42.30 -Is that something where they would need to get in right away? 00:24:42.42\00:24:45.12 -I would say the sooner the better. 00:24:45.69\00:24:48.54 We probably want to also mention 00:24:49.63\00:24:52.06 about acids and substances like that. 00:24:52.07\00:24:54.63 -Yeah let's talk about that. 00:24:54.64\00:24:56.15 So let's say there is a chemical or 00:24:56.16\00:24:57.66 you're washing something and 00:24:57.67\00:24:59.24 a cleaning fluid gets into your eye. 00:24:59.25\00:25:01.75 -Clorox would be a common but a worrisome one 00:25:01.76\00:25:06.45 This is something that again, 00:25:06.78\00:25:09.48 as with many things that get in the eye, 00:25:09.60\00:25:11.24 the key is to irrigate the eye. 00:25:11.63\00:25:13.54 Especially if it is a chemical substance like that, 00:25:13.66\00:25:17.36 you really need to irrigate it for a long time. 00:25:17.66\00:25:21.06 15-30 minutes would be good. 00:25:21.07\00:25:23.18 After that go ahead and have it seen immediately. 00:25:23.19\00:25:26.69 Even if you have irrigated it well. 00:25:26.70\00:25:29.12 -Let's say it's my 1 year old 00:25:29.13\00:25:30.60 and he is screaming bloody murder. 00:25:30.61\00:25:32.39 I feel so bad that he is crying. -Right 00:25:32.40\00:25:35.78 Do I keep irrigating regardless of him screaming? 00:25:36.09\00:25:39.18 By all means. It's tough but you've go to do it. 00:25:39.75\00:25:43.84 If you have to hold him down, force open the eye 00:25:43.85\00:25:46.39 to pour it in. 00:25:46.40\00:25:47.48 Do what it takes because a kids vision, 00:25:47.78\00:25:50.69 vision is one of the most important things 00:25:50.70\00:25:53.21 that we have been given. You said the eye is 00:26:04.54\00:26:07.54 one of the most vascular areas. 00:26:07.55\00:26:09.12 It is one of the fastest healing. 00:26:09.13\00:26:10.66 It is like 3 layers and in about 3 days, 00:26:10.67\00:26:13.72 abrasions, scratches on the surface 00:26:13.73\00:26:16.24 of the eye clear up. It is pretty remarkable. 00:26:16.25\00:26:20.12 That's resilient as they say. 00:26:20.84\00:26:22.87 We've been talking with Dr. Doug Plata 00:26:22.88\00:26:24.75 and we've been takeling about foreign bodies in the eye, 00:26:24.76\00:26:27.54 Some very useful information, very practical. 00:26:27.55\00:26:29.63 We hope that you enjoy this information here on: 00:26:29.64\00:26:32.69 There is many different topics that you can access. 00:26:34.81\00:26:37.72 Tell your friends about us, 00:26:37.87\00:26:39.84 and tell them about the practical 00:26:39.85\00:26:41.33 information that you are receiving here. 00:26:41.34\00:26:42.39 Thanks for being with us doctor -My pleasure 00:26:42.40\00:26:44.21 Thank you for being with us as well 00:26:44.22\00:26:45.63 at NEWSTART At Home. 00:26:46.27\00:26:47.69 Modern views of evolution stem all the way back 00:26:55.27\00:26:57.78 to theories developed in the mid-1800s. 00:26:57.81\00:27:00.36 Out of the same time period came ideas that shape 00:27:01.06\00:27:04.33 our educational system today. 00:27:04.36\00:27:06.51 The Common School Movement, for example, 00:27:07.15\00:27:09.42 saw schools more like a factory, 00:27:09.78\00:27:11.69 with students blindly memorizing instruction 00:27:11.70\00:27:14.45 rather than thinking for themselves. 00:27:14.48\00:27:16.45 Their curriculum was rigid and theoretical. 00:27:17.06\00:27:19.45 Instead of being flexible and practical, 00:27:19.46\00:27:22.30 it was designed to conform the individual 00:27:22.45\00:27:24.84 into a specific ideological mold 00:27:25.06\00:27:27.48 that fit the needs of an old industrial era 00:27:27.72\00:27:30.27 long since passed. 00:27:30.28\00:27:31.66 Just like our view of creation in six literal days, 00:27:33.06\00:27:36.27 we believe the Bible contains an educational blueprint 00:27:36.36\00:27:40.36 radically different from the one we see now. 00:27:40.63\00:27:43.09 Well folks, that's it for today. 00:27:56.39\00:27:58.21 Thank you for joining us 00:27:58.22\00:27:59.84 In the mean time pick up the phone 00:27:59.85\00:28:01.33 and give us a call at: 00:28:01.34\00:28:02.33 God bless you and have a great day! 00:28:06.06\00:28:07.33
