00:12:15.84\00:12:17.15 I was there a relatively short time, a year or two, 00:12:17.27\00:12:19.45 then went to the large Florida hospital, 00:12:19.60\00:12:22.09 was there leading out in some preventative medicine 00:12:22.36\00:12:25.42 activities at that large 00:12:25.43\00:12:26.84 Adventist medical center in Florida, 00:12:26.85\00:12:29.06 multicampus facilities. 00:12:29.15\00:12:32.27 And then was up in the New York city area for a 00:12:32.84\00:12:35.39 while at a small ministry called living springs. 00:12:35.40\00:12:37.84 Later I was one of the physicians who opened 00:12:38.39\00:12:40.72 the Lifestyle Center of America in Oklahoma. 00:12:40.73\00:12:43.09 From there I went on to consulting, 00:12:43.69\00:12:46.39 and health media 00:12:46.40\00:12:47.54 emphasis in a business that my wife and I started, 00:12:47.84\00:12:51.36 a few years ago was invited to cut 00:12:51.81\00:12:54.06 that work back to half time so I could pastor. 00:12:54.07\00:12:56.78 I was invited to pastor in 00:12:57.12\00:12:58.30 northern New England, so was doing 00:12:58.31\00:12:59.78 pastoral work, as well as 00:13:00.18\00:13:02.09 health, especially health education, 00:13:02.42\00:13:03.84 and health media. 00:13:03.85\00:13:05.06 So now the Lord has redirected me into clinical medicine, 00:13:05.33\00:13:09.69 so I feel like I'm reconnecting 00:13:10.12\00:13:11.75 many of those pieces that Jesus had, 00:13:11.76\00:13:13.69 even in the pastoral work I wasn't doing much in the lines 00:13:13.78\00:13:17.42 direct healing as far as patients, 00:13:17.63\00:13:19.39 I was doing a lot with health education. 00:13:19.40\00:13:21.36 So it's great to be back at Weimar, 00:13:21.66\00:13:23.69 I say back because 00:13:23.70\00:13:24.72 I've done things with Weimar over 00:13:25.21\00:13:26.72 the years although I've never been 00:13:26.73\00:13:28.33 a staff member here until just the last couple of months. 00:13:28.48\00:13:30.84 I first met you about a year and a half ago, 00:13:31.57\00:13:34.54 I guess you were here and you 00:13:34.55\00:13:36.48 lectured at the chapel, 00:13:36.69\00:13:38.81 I just learned a whole lot of 00:13:39.36\00:13:41.63 new information that was exciting. 00:13:41.64\00:13:44.27 I also see you at the college, you're teaching there? 00:13:45.36\00:13:48.24 I'm actually teaching at the Weimar College as well. 00:13:48.30\00:13:51.30 I had been teaching while pastoring, 00:13:51.57\00:13:53.45 I was pastoring half time, I was teaching in the 00:13:54.12\00:13:56.27 community college system there a little bit in Maine, 00:13:56.28\00:13:58.57 and have continued with the teaching here, 00:13:59.09\00:14:01.51 that was part of the invitation. 00:14:01.52\00:14:03.33 They wanted me to be active in patient care, 00:14:03.45\00:14:05.78 but also involved in teaching students. 00:14:06.12\00:14:08.09 A lot of what I did in ministry, 00:14:08.12\00:14:09.66 was health evangelism, interfacing health 00:14:10.06\00:14:12.78 and meeting community needs through health 00:14:13.18\00:14:15.42 just like Jesus did, 00:14:15.72\00:14:17.36 and then connecting that with spiritual ministry, 00:14:17.63\00:14:20.21 so we're training our 00:14:20.27\00:14:21.63 students in how they can get more 00:14:21.64\00:14:23.69 training in ministering to their communities. 00:14:24.18\00:14:26.54 We in fact just had a program last night, 00:14:26.60\00:14:28.63 where we saw many community members 00:14:28.64\00:14:30.33 come here to the Weimar campus, 00:14:30.51\00:14:32.18 and our students were involved giving massages, 00:14:32.51\00:14:35.51 and checking blood pressure 00:14:35.87\00:14:37.60 - Preparing foods, and all that. 00:14:37.84\00:14:39.15 Preparing foods, yes, it was incredible, 00:14:39.18\00:14:41.06 so really the whole 00:14:41.07\00:14:42.09 Weimar experience in a nutshell last night, 00:14:42.10\00:14:44.51 the whole NEWSTART program. 00:14:44.52\00:14:46.09 - In a couple hours that was pretty incredible! 00:14:46.21\00:14:48.81 Well I want to get to talking about Una. 00:14:49.66\00:14:52.60 Now three months ago, as you know Una couldn't walk. 00:14:54.57\00:14:57.21 Yes, amazing, amazing story. 00:14:57.54\00:14:58.81 What happened? 00:14:58.84\00:15:00.21 Let me just ask you a multiple of questions here, 00:15:00.42\00:15:02.87 What happened? 00:15:03.48\00:15:04.75 Why is this vegan diet so powerful? 00:15:05.06\00:15:08.72 What is it about this diet? 00:15:09.27\00:15:11.48 I know that it will cure most any ailment! 00:15:12.15\00:15:15.87 I mean I feel that in my heart, 00:15:16.06\00:15:17.33 and that's a pretty bold statement, 00:15:17.72\00:15:19.75 but I believe it. 00:15:19.76\00:15:21.06 Tell us something about that. 00:15:21.12\00:15:22.42 Well you know physicians like to feel that they know everything! 00:15:22.51\00:15:25.87 - Well of course! 00:15:26.18\00:15:27.21 - With the exception of the one sitting here! 00:15:28.06\00:15:30.48 Well you know, our team here, 00:15:31.75\00:15:33.69 we realize that God is the healer, 00:15:33.70\00:15:35.84 and I'm not trying to put down my fellow physicians, 00:15:36.09\00:15:39.06 but really we're trained 00:15:39.07\00:15:40.36 to try to master the art of diagnoses and treatment. 00:15:40.51\00:15:43.54 And it's very frustrating for the physicians 00:15:43.72\00:15:45.75 to have a problem that they can't really diagnose fully, 00:15:46.06\00:15:48.87 and that was the case with Una. 00:15:48.88\00:15:50.48 No one really convincingly diagnosed her at home, 00:15:50.78\00:15:53.87 they had a hypothesis that they were going with, 00:15:54.06\00:15:56.54 and to be honest we didn't do any better here, 00:15:57.09\00:15:59.48 we didn't send her off for a whole 00:15:59.49\00:16:01.30 battery of tests, and nail down exactly what was going on. 00:16:01.42\00:16:04.48 But what I've noticed over the years 00:16:05.18\00:16:07.06 in working with lifestyle medicine, 00:16:07.07\00:16:08.72 and using the Lord's simple programs, 00:16:08.73\00:16:10.57 is that when we apply God's principles, 00:16:10.87\00:16:13.63 diet, the exercise, the 00:16:13.72\00:16:15.39 hydrotherapy like you heard about, massage, 00:16:15.40\00:16:18.33 other natural remedies, 00:16:18.57\00:16:20.39 we're emphasising trust in God 00:16:20.54\00:16:22.66 and social support in the program 00:16:22.67\00:16:25.06 It's not just something that you 00:16:25.12\00:16:26.42 read a book about and do, you have 00:16:26.43\00:16:27.78 a whole group of people 00:16:28.06\00:16:29.27 that are sustaining one another as they go 00:16:29.33\00:16:31.30 through this lifestyle change experience. 00:16:31.31\00:16:33.18 I have just seen tremendous things happen, 00:16:33.51\00:16:35.72 and some of the most remarkable 00:16:36.06\00:16:37.45 experiences I've had with 00:16:37.57\00:16:38.78 patients in my life are the people 00:16:38.79\00:16:40.42 that I either can't diagnose, 00:16:40.66\00:16:42.42 or I diagnose them and I say, 00:16:42.87\00:16:44.36 Lord why did you send this person here? 00:16:44.37\00:16:46.21 I don't have anything to offer them. 00:16:46.22\00:16:47.81 There's no medical treatment 00:16:48.06\00:16:49.21 that we know of that can help them. 00:16:49.22\00:16:50.60 And that's why they're there, 00:16:50.84\00:16:52.06 because the doctors saw them 00:16:52.09\00:16:53.36 and they said, We can't help you. 00:16:53.37\00:16:54.81 And so they come to a place like Weimar, 00:16:55.30\00:16:57.24 and we don't really, intellectually 00:16:57.69\00:17:00.60 know any better than anyone else, 00:17:01.15\00:17:02.60 but we do know something that many doctors often forget, 00:17:02.66\00:17:06.06 and that is that the Lord is the healer. 00:17:06.48\00:17:08.21 And so our philosophy here, 00:17:08.66\00:17:11.06 is we look at a persons lifestyle, 00:17:11.30\00:17:13.36 we look at their life practices, then we look at the Bible. 00:17:13.63\00:17:16.87 We look at these simple concepts, 00:17:17.18\00:17:18.66 they're found in Genesis one and two. 00:17:18.67\00:17:20.12 What was God's original plan? 00:17:20.24\00:17:21.60 How did He want us to live? 00:17:21.72\00:17:22.78 And like you said it was a total vegetarian diet, 00:17:23.06\00:17:25.33 it's not a legalistic thing here, 00:17:25.45\00:17:26.75 where we say everyone has to be a total vegetarian. 00:17:26.76\00:17:28.78 But we say, why would in the beginning, 00:17:29.30\00:17:31.66 when God was creating people to live forever, 00:17:32.06\00:17:34.27 why would He give them a diet that 00:17:34.45\00:17:36.24 was totally based on plant products? 00:17:36.25\00:17:38.09 It just speaks to me as a physician 00:17:39.27\00:17:42.24 and pastor, as a student of the Bible, 00:17:42.36\00:17:44.06 saying there's something here. 00:17:44.24\00:17:45.66 But if I just kind of push that off to the side, 00:17:45.87\00:17:48.54 and say you know, we don't want to be too dogmatic here! 00:17:48.66\00:17:51.51 Ok, well we're not dogmatic, we're just saying 00:17:51.54\00:17:53.81 this causes you to say, Stop, wait a minute. 00:17:54.36\00:17:56.72 Why did God give us this program? 00:17:57.06\00:17:58.60 So that's what we try to do with our patients. 00:17:59.15\00:18:00.78 Try to get them on that program that reproduces 00:18:01.12\00:18:03.39 what God gave in the beginning, and by the way 00:18:03.40\00:18:05.57 what the Bible says is that He's 00:18:05.69\00:18:07.51 going to recreate in the earth made new. 00:18:07.52\00:18:09.66 Amen. 00:18:09.87\00:18:11.06 You know, I'm just amazed, but I know 00:18:11.39\00:18:14.48 in your 25 years experience that you've seen 00:18:15.06\00:18:19.06 over and over and over again. 00:18:19.42\00:18:21.54 Maybe there some one of our viewers right now that 00:18:22.06\00:18:25.18 that's misdiagnosed, or 00:18:26.75\00:18:28.15 doesn't know if they can be cured. 00:18:28.16\00:18:30.06 Can we give them some hope Doc? 00:18:30.66\00:18:32.36 Is there something that you could say 00:18:32.54\00:18:34.48 to our viewers just to implant that seed of hope? 00:18:34.81\00:18:39.06 Well Ron, you know our God is a God of hope. 00:18:39.69\00:18:42.06 and I love a little statement 00:18:42.63\00:18:46.18 that a Christian commentator wrote on the Scriptures, 00:18:46.33\00:18:49.51 and that is that man's extremity is God's opportunity. 00:18:49.72\00:18:54.36 You know, often when we seem to be at the end of our rope, 00:18:54.81\00:18:57.60 often when we don't see hope, 00:18:57.61\00:18:59.06 God is really trying to open 00:18:59.33\00:19:01.09 our mind to something much bigger. 00:19:01.10\00:19:03.06 Time after time, if you look at the Scriptures, 00:19:03.24\00:19:05.33 God allows people to get into situations, 00:19:05.60\00:19:08.12 where when it's all said and done, 00:19:08.57\00:19:10.27 no one can take the glory but God alone. 00:19:10.51\00:19:13.21 Whether it's the story of Joseph, 00:19:13.42\00:19:15.15 whether it's Gideon, 00:19:15.16\00:19:16.15 whether it's Jesus himself, 00:19:16.30\00:19:17.78 I mean God intervenes, 00:19:18.33\00:19:20.33 in these stories in the Bible, 00:19:20.54\00:19:22.60 and so when God is often wanting to 00:19:22.75\00:19:24.24 do something dramatic in our life, 00:19:24.25\00:19:25.57 it's not that we just read the latest self help book, 00:19:25.75\00:19:28.48 and we just put it all together. 00:19:28.84\00:19:30.36 But often we recognize our need, 00:19:30.48\00:19:32.78 and sometimes God has to take us 00:19:33.06\00:19:34.81 out of our normal everyday experience, 00:19:34.82\00:19:37.06 whether it's Daniel, 00:19:37.48\00:19:39.18 being brought forcibly to Babylon, 00:19:39.63\00:19:41.60 or someone feeling 00:19:41.61\00:19:42.60 that kind of against their will 00:19:42.87\00:19:45.06 they're having to go to a Weimar 00:19:45.21\00:19:46.69 because they have health problems, 00:19:47.06\00:19:48.33 they don't know where to turn. 00:19:48.34\00:19:49.45 Our God is a God of hope, and He 00:19:49.60\00:19:51.69 specializes in healing desperate cases. 00:19:51.70\00:19:54.24 -You know, you just gave pretty much an overview for me, 00:19:55.54\00:19:58.75 of what heals people when they come here. 00:19:59.33\00:20:02.03 And I know there are various different diseases, if you will, 00:20:02.48\00:20:07.03 but in Una's case, 00:20:07.45\00:20:10.51 is there anything specific 00:20:11.06\00:20:12.39 as a physician that you looked at? 00:20:12.84\00:20:15.75 Any direction? 00:20:16.00\00:20:17.87 Did God tell you anything you should be doing in here case? 00:20:18.84\00:20:22.12 -Well I mean we looked at many specific things, 00:20:22.18\00:20:24.21 and in working with team-- we 00:20:24.22\00:20:25.42 have a whole team here-- one of the 00:20:25.43\00:20:27.00 things that was important was the whole 00:20:27.01\00:20:28.60 hydrotherapy, massage, the physical modalities. 00:20:28.75\00:20:31.51 When anyone has any kind of 00:20:31.57\00:20:33.15 musculoskeletal concernes whether it's arthritis, 00:20:33.16\00:20:35.78 whether it's weakness, 00:20:36.09\00:20:37.12 we have someone who especially works in 00:20:37.33\00:20:39.09 the area of exercise with our patients, 00:20:39.10\00:20:40.72 we have people that work in the are of hands on treatments, 00:20:41.06\00:20:43.54 the massage and the hydro therapy. 00:20:43.69\00:20:45.27 So these were critical things in the program as well 00:20:45.45\00:20:48.03 as the diet and other elements of the lifestyle. 00:20:48.27\00:20:50.39 And we haven't mentioned the chaplain I 00:20:51.06\00:20:53.48 know that we have a chaplain here as well 00:20:53.49\00:20:56.06 where people-- our guests can go and speak with. 00:20:56.60\00:21:00.12 Any comments about that? 00:21:00.27\00:21:01.57 Oh yes, this is a huge part of the program. 00:21:01.63\00:21:03.75 Viola is a tremendous minister in her own right, 00:21:03.84\00:21:07.24 and she takes a personal interest 00:21:07.25\00:21:09.45 in each person, and works with them as much or as little 00:21:09.72\00:21:12.54 as they feel comfortable being 00:21:12.84\00:21:14.21 worked with in the spiritual realm. 00:21:14.22\00:21:15.66 Yes, what a blessing. 00:21:16.69\00:21:17.81 Doctor, I want to thank you for joining us on our set, 00:21:18.39\00:21:20.87 and look forward for another interview. 00:21:21.39\00:21:23.72 And thank you for joining us folks, 00:21:24.45\00:21:26.12 but don't go away 00:21:26.13\00:21:27.21 because we've got a tip for you in just a moment. 00:21:27.22\00:21:29.48 Hello and welcome to NEWSTART AT HOME, 00:21:44.24\00:21:45.66 I'm your host Don Mackintosh, 00:21:45.67\00:21:46.75 we're glad you're with us, and we're 00:21:46.87\00:21:48.69 glad today to have Dr. David DeRose 00:21:48.70\00:21:50.06 with us in the studio. 00:21:50.07\00:21:51.69 Dr. DeRose is a specialist in internal medicine, 00:21:51.72\00:21:54.45 and also I believe Doctor, 00:21:54.46\00:21:55.78 preventative medicine... - You're exactly right. 00:21:56.27\00:21:57.87 in other words, how to prevent problems, 00:21:58.06\00:21:59.54 and then if they have 00:21:59.55\00:22:00.69 problems how to help them if they do. 00:22:00.70\00:22:02.12 No you're right, preventative medicine 00:22:02.36\00:22:04.09 actually looks at the whole scope of prevention, 00:22:04.10\00:22:06.15 what we sometimes call primary prevention, 00:22:06.16\00:22:08.06 preventing diseases from ever occurring 00:22:08.07\00:22:09.57 and then there's other aspect of prevention that 00:22:09.84\00:22:12.42 try to prevent the ravages of various diseases. 00:22:12.43\00:22:14.81 And one of the things that can prevent 00:22:15.18\00:22:17.30 disease is a robust, or healthy immune system. 00:22:17.31\00:22:19.78 That's what we're going to talk about today. 00:22:19.79\00:22:22.21 Very important, the immune system is incredibly important 00:22:22.33\00:22:25.24 whether we're speaking about 00:22:25.25\00:22:26.66 cancer or the garden variety cold, 00:22:26.67\00:22:28.39 our immune system has a whole lot to say 00:22:28.72\00:22:31.06 about whether we're going to come 00:22:31.24\00:22:32.51 down with some of these illnesses. 00:22:32.52\00:22:33.78 So you I think have some new 00:22:34.21\00:22:35.33 research that you want to share with us, but 00:22:35.34\00:22:37.06 the immune system, what can we do to enhance it? 00:22:38.06\00:22:41.51 Well there's a lot of things we 00:22:41.75\00:22:43.15 can do to enhance the immune system, 00:22:43.16\00:22:44.60 and we really don't have time to give an exhaustive list, 00:22:45.06\00:22:48.12 but moderate exercise is very important, 00:22:48.27\00:22:50.48 healthy diet, stress management. 00:22:50.72\00:22:53.87 We want to focus today though on adequate rest. 00:22:54.24\00:22:57.06 Adequate rest as it relates to the immune system. 00:22:57.30\00:22:59.54 How much do we need? I'm in my 40s, 00:22:59.63\00:23:03.06 lets just say late 30s! 00:23:03.07\00:23:05.06 How much rest do I need? 00:23:06.06\00:23:08.06 Well I mean this was the real shocker, a study 00:23:08.15\00:23:10.21 fairly recently published in 2009 00:23:10.66\00:23:13.09 actually looked at this question 00:23:13.18\00:23:15.06 as it related to the common cold. 00:23:15.07\00:23:16.72 One of the viruses that causes a 00:23:17.42\00:23:19.18 common cold is called the Rino Virus. 00:23:19.19\00:23:21.15 - Rino Virus. 00:23:21.36\00:23:22.42 - Yes, no relation to the African wild animal! 00:23:22.48\00:23:25.36 Rino actually refers to the virus. 00:23:25.48\00:23:27.48 - Just a much smaller rhino! 00:23:27.60\00:23:28.69 - Yes, you got the general idea. 00:23:29.06\00:23:31.09 So the Rino Virus is one of these 00:23:31.54\00:23:33.27 viruses that cause the common cold. 00:23:33.28\00:23:35.06 And researchers in this particular study 00:23:35.30\00:23:37.66 gathered a group of some 150 individuals 00:23:38.21\00:23:41.30 and studied their sleeping habits for two weeks. 00:23:42.09\00:23:45.06 They actually took careful logs of their sleep habits, 00:23:45.48\00:23:48.30 they questioned them after sleeping, 00:23:48.60\00:23:50.60 and they were able to generate some charts for each individual 00:23:50.78\00:23:54.39 showing how many total hours they slept, 00:23:54.57\00:23:56.78 and the quality of their sleep. 00:23:57.12\00:23:58.45 In other words how much time specifically 00:23:58.57\00:24:00.75 they were sleeping while they were in bed. 00:24:00.76\00:24:03.06 What they then did, was they 00:24:03.69\00:24:05.60 inoculated each of these individuals 00:24:05.61\00:24:08.06 with the Rino Virus. 00:24:08.30\00:24:09.42 - So they gave them the cold. 00:24:09.48\00:24:10.87 Well they gave them the virus. 00:24:11.24\00:24:12.78 The interesting thing was, 00:24:13.33\00:24:15.12 not all of them developed an infection, 00:24:15.13\00:24:17.63 and even those that developed an infection, 00:24:18.12\00:24:20.27 not all of them came down with a cold. 00:24:20.28\00:24:22.15 Now some of our viewers may be a little perplexed 00:24:22.30\00:24:25.33 as to how you can get an infection 00:24:25.42\00:24:28.09 and not have a cold. 00:24:28.30\00:24:29.48 You fight it off. 00:24:29.57\00:24:30.57 Exactly. 00:24:31.12\00:24:32.18 We know as health professionals that it's 00:24:32.63\00:24:35.45 very common to have an inapparent infection. 00:24:35.46\00:24:38.42 So a person can have the disease, 00:24:38.81\00:24:40.69 you can check their blood, 00:24:41.06\00:24:42.24 the blood says yes the immune system has geared up, 00:24:42.48\00:24:45.15 you actually have influenza or Rino Virus or whatever, 00:24:45.27\00:24:48.27 but you look and feel healthy. 00:24:48.39\00:24:49.81 So some individuals in that senario. 00:24:50.36\00:24:52.72 But when you looked at the people with the clear cut colds, 00:24:53.06\00:24:56.21 triple the risk of having a cold, 00:24:57.60\00:25:00.36 if you were getting less than seven hours of sleep per night 00:25:00.54\00:25:04.06 compared to more than eight. 00:25:04.18\00:25:06.18 So between seven and eight was the magic number, 00:25:06.45\00:25:08.72 was that for every age? 00:25:08.73\00:25:09.81 No it was not the magic number actually, 00:25:10.06\00:25:11.60 between seven and eight was intermediate 00:25:11.61\00:25:13.21 eight hours or more were the best. 00:25:13.48\00:25:15.24 What do you mean more? 12 hours is that good? 15 hours? 00:25:15.69\00:25:18.72 Well there is a point of diminishing return. 00:25:19.27\00:25:21.66 In the particular study 00:25:21.67\00:25:23.06 they found that those that were getting 00:25:23.21\00:25:24.84 more sleep than eight hours actually had 00:25:24.85\00:25:26.57 better immune systems, 00:25:26.78\00:25:28.75 based on how they handled the Rin Virus, 00:25:28.84\00:25:30.75 than those who were even getting the typically 00:25:31.06\00:25:33.09 recommended seven or eight hours of sleep at night. 00:25:33.10\00:25:35.33 So if you are feeling sick, or maybe 00:25:35.48\00:25:37.06 are in a situation you should probably get 00:25:37.07\00:25:38.72 more sleep when that's happening. 00:25:39.21\00:25:40.45 Excellent, that's the bottom line message. 00:25:40.54\00:25:43.06 If you're feeling tired 00:25:43.07\00:25:44.27 that's a sign your body maybe trying to fight something off, 00:25:44.54\00:25:47.24 you may need that extra immune reserve, 00:25:47.48\00:25:49.39 and don't hesitate to try to 00:25:49.63\00:25:51.33 even if you got to get a nap in, or go to bed early, 00:25:51.48\00:25:53.84 or do what you need to do because sleep is 00:25:53.85\00:25:55.78 something very important for your immune system. 00:25:55.79\00:25:58.06 So the diminishing returns came when? 00:25:58.07\00:25:59.87 12 hours? 10 hours? 15 hours? 00:25:59.88\00:26:01.57 Well the researchers in this 00:26:01.60\00:26:03.12 particular study didn't look at it, 00:26:03.13\00:26:04.84 but we know from other research 00:26:04.85\00:26:06.42 that too much sleep is not desirable either. 00:26:06.57\00:26:09.75 What the question is when you look at population groups, 00:26:10.33\00:26:12.69 are people sleeping more 00:26:13.06\00:26:14.69 because their unhealthy to begin with. 00:26:15.06\00:26:16.69 that's the chicken or the egg question that 00:26:16.81\00:26:19.06 always comes when you look at sleep habits. 00:26:19.07\00:26:21.06 We've been talking to Dr. David DeRose. 00:26:21.36\00:26:23.06 We've been talking about 00:26:23.07\00:26:24.15 sleep and rest as it relates to the immune system. 00:26:24.16\00:26:27.45 And we learned today that the typical seven 00:26:28.06\00:26:29.75 or eight hours that we normally talk about 00:26:29.76\00:26:31.51 is really not enough when you're feeling tired or sick. 00:26:31.84\00:26:35.12 You need to bump it up over that eight, 00:26:35.45\00:26:37.75 maybe nine, or even ten, 00:26:37.76\00:26:39.21 and the body will kind of tell you. 00:26:39.72\00:26:41.06 If you want more information about this go to: 00:26:41.07\00:26:42.63 And we thank Dr. DeRose for being with us, 00:26:44.12\00:26:46.42 and we thank you for being with us today. Have a great day. 00:26:46.45\00:26:49.15 Modern views of evolution stem all the way 00:26:56.78\00:26:59.27 back to theories developed in the mid 1800s. 00:26:59.28\00:27:01.75 Out of the same time period came ideas that shape 00:27:02.78\00:27:05.84 our educational system today. 00:27:06.15\00:27:08.18 The common school movement for example, 00:27:09.18\00:27:11.06 saw schools more like a factory, 00:27:11.21\00:27:13.12 with students blindly memorizing 00:27:13.18\00:27:15.06 instruction rather than thinking for themselves. 00:27:15.07\00:27:17.72 Their curriculum was rigid and theoretical, 00:27:18.60\00:27:21.06 instead of being flexible and practical, 00:27:21.45\00:27:23.57 It was designed to conform the individual 00:27:24.12\00:27:26.48 into a specific ideological mold, 00:27:26.57\00:27:29.18 that fit the needs of a old industrial era, long since past. 00:27:29.54\00:27:33.06 Just like our view of creation in six literal days, 00:27:34.63\00:27:37.75 we believe the Bible contains an educational blueprint 00:27:38.06\00:27:42.06 radically different from the one we see now. 00:27:42.27\00:27:44.57 Well friends that's it for today. 00:27:57.63\00:27:59.30 Thank you for joining us. 00:27:59.31\00:28:00.48 Pick up that phone and call us at: 00:28:01.09\00:28:03.15 God Bless you. 00:28:06.33\00:28:07.51
