Hi friends, and welcome to another edition of NEWSTART Now. 00:00:24.06\00:00:27.42 In our studio today we have Milton Buehner. 00:00:27.57\00:00:30.57 And before we interview him, 00:00:30.84\00:00:32.87 I'd like you to watch a clip when he first arrived. 00:00:32.88\00:00:35.84 Part of my life has been made up of 00:00:37.75\00:00:40.69 a series of compulsive behaviors 00:00:40.78\00:00:45.78 that I believe I gravitated to 00:00:46.24\00:00:51.39 because of the circumstances in my life. 00:00:51.45\00:00:54.15 I went through alcohol 00:00:54.30\00:00:56.84 and found some help through AA. 00:00:57.15\00:01:03.18 The thing that I consider most important right now is 00:01:04.09\00:01:07.54 working on the one remaining behavior, 00:01:07.87\00:01:11.72 and that is food and my addiction to food. 00:01:11.73\00:01:16.72 Well, I would like to walk away from this program with 00:01:17.54\00:01:23.03 a closer relationship with the Lord 00:01:23.51\00:01:26.63 and primarily with the understanding that 00:01:26.87\00:01:30.36 my body, according to Scripture, 00:01:30.51\00:01:34.06 is the temple of the Holy Spirit, 00:01:34.21\00:01:36.63 and I really would like to have it cleaned up to the extent 00:01:37.03\00:01:40.30 where I'd be proud to have Him inhabit 00:01:40.31\00:01:43.39 this carcass of mine. 00:01:43.42\00:01:45.42 Welcome back, friends, and in our studio is Milton. 00:01:46.66\00:01:50.33 How are you, sir? - Good, thank you. 00:01:50.63\00:01:52.36 Good to see you. 00:01:52.37\00:01:53.60 Now you look different to me, 00:01:53.63\00:01:55.24 and I'm sure you do to our viewers, 00:01:55.25\00:01:58.51 So tell us about what has happened. 00:01:58.63\00:02:01.30 Well, part of the difference you might see in me is that I'm 00:02:01.75\00:02:05.27 21 pounds lighter than I was. 00:02:05.60\00:02:07.78 Twenty-one pounds lighter! 00:02:07.79\00:02:09.15 It shows in your face, by the way. 00:02:09.16\00:02:10.69 I can see that. - Thank you. 00:02:10.75\00:02:12.39 And what else has transpired? 00:02:12.45\00:02:15.12 You've been here 16 or 17 days, right? 00:02:15.30\00:02:19.57 And you've lost 21 pounds? - Right. 00:02:19.78\00:02:22.54 That's incredible. 00:02:22.57\00:02:23.87 You're probably going to lose another pound or two 00:02:24.24\00:02:26.36 except for tonight's dinner. 00:02:26.37\00:02:28.39 But what else has happened? Please tell us. 00:02:28.66\00:02:30.69 Well, in the process of getting to the point 00:02:31.15\00:02:33.75 of losing that kind of weight, 00:02:33.76\00:02:35.48 the major shift that I was totally unaware of 00:02:35.75\00:02:40.81 was that I could end up with a very small 00:02:40.82\00:02:45.57 amount of food providing satisfaction 00:02:45.63\00:02:48.81 if I would eat the proper foods instead of 00:02:49.18\00:02:52.36 the stuff that I've grown up with 00:02:52.60\00:02:54.57 since the time I was a child. 00:02:54.58\00:02:56.27 So why do you think that is so? 00:02:56.57\00:02:58.63 What is your body getting from the proper food 00:02:59.03\00:03:02.75 as opposed to the foods that we probably both used to eat? 00:03:02.84\00:03:07.33 Well, what it's getting now obviously are the nutrients 00:03:07.81\00:03:12.24 that have an awful lot to do with the appetite. 00:03:12.42\00:03:16.36 I believe my body was crying out for more food 00:03:16.42\00:03:19.87 because it was lacking the nutrients that are then 00:03:20.06\00:03:23.39 embedded in this program, 00:03:23.54\00:03:25.33 in the food that we eat in this program. 00:03:25.42\00:03:28.12 So I think that's the... 00:03:28.54\00:03:30.09 And to my great satisfaction 00:03:30.21\00:03:33.72 is not to end up with this craving hunger 00:03:34.06\00:03:38.03 that I've had for all these years. 00:03:38.09\00:03:40.36 So I find myself... 00:03:40.66\00:03:42.84 really, almost forcing myself to eat. 00:03:43.24\00:03:46.78 And I'm eating now, and have been since I got here, 00:03:47.27\00:03:50.57 two meals a day instead of three. 00:03:50.60\00:03:52.36 So you're skipping the evening meal? 00:03:52.48\00:03:54.87 Is that correct? - Yes, that's right. 00:03:54.88\00:03:56.54 So I've learned, an awful lot of this has to do with education-- 00:03:57.06\00:04:01.15 truly good education from people who specialize in that, 00:04:01.33\00:04:05.21 and that's the only thing they do. 00:04:05.30\00:04:07.78 And it's great to have that input as opposed to 00:04:08.03\00:04:12.06 what the world has been offering me, which is 00:04:12.30\00:04:15.30 junk food and fast food 00:04:15.57\00:04:18.39 and the wrong kinds of food. 00:04:18.51\00:04:21.03 It's a real eye-opening, wonderful experience. 00:04:21.21\00:04:24.72 Do you miss anything about the food 00:04:24.84\00:04:27.78 that you used to eat, compared to your new foods? 00:04:27.84\00:04:34.12 Well you know, I've thought about them from time to time, 00:04:34.33\00:04:38.60 but since I'm not suffering from hunger, 00:04:38.61\00:04:43.36 there's no real strong urge to imbibe 00:04:43.60\00:04:48.30 in other foods of any kind. 00:04:48.51\00:04:50.81 Now you said in your first interview, 00:04:51.24\00:04:53.63 "...a walk with the Lord," or something to the effect that 00:04:54.39\00:04:59.18 your body being a temple for the Holy Spirit to dwell. 00:04:59.48\00:05:03.24 Well, and I do. I mean... 00:05:04.18\00:05:06.72 Going back to that first conversation that we had... 00:05:06.73\00:05:10.39 I have read over and over about 00:05:12.09\00:05:14.30 my body being the temple of the Holy Spirit, 00:05:14.36\00:05:16.63 and it's something that in my own strength 00:05:16.72\00:05:20.03 I don't believe I could get there. 00:05:20.15\00:05:22.30 I tried to do it with will power, 00:05:22.60\00:05:24.84 but that runs short for me. 00:05:25.15\00:05:27.78 The compulsion to eat was so strong 00:05:28.12\00:05:30.81 that I would continue to try to satisfy those 00:05:31.00\00:05:35.27 hungers with the food that I best know. 00:05:35.45\00:05:39.18 And it just does not and will not... 00:05:39.36\00:05:42.24 and I believe today that it cannot 00:05:42.25\00:05:44.45 satisfy, no matter what the volume is that I consumed. 00:05:44.48\00:05:48.30 Wonderful. 00:05:48.84\00:05:50.42 Now tell us what else you've gone though here. 00:05:50.60\00:05:53.63 What did you like about the program? 00:05:53.75\00:05:57.27 Tell us, tell the viewers about what you liked about it. 00:05:57.33\00:06:00.36 Well, I think the educational part is awesome, 00:06:02.21\00:06:06.39 but I also believe that the spiritual side of this, 00:06:06.42\00:06:12.15 that this program, in my way of saying it, 00:06:12.21\00:06:16.24 is a holistic program in that 00:06:16.27\00:06:18.48 it doesn't try to separate the body from the spirit 00:06:18.54\00:06:22.57 or the spirit from the body, 00:06:23.24\00:06:25.24 but that it ministers to both. 00:06:25.45\00:06:27.39 And I, as I think about that, 00:06:27.51\00:06:29.60 I believe that's what Jesus did. - Yes. 00:06:29.72\00:06:32.48 Everything I read about Him, 00:06:32.81\00:06:35.75 He ministered to the needs of people first, 00:06:35.76\00:06:38.51 and then He taught them. - Yes. 00:06:38.60\00:06:40.33 And I believe that happens here. 00:06:40.51\00:06:42.45 So it healed them first. 00:06:42.48\00:06:44.03 - Heals them first. Yes. 00:06:44.12\00:06:45.42 How have you been healed? 00:06:45.43\00:06:47.30 Tell us a little bit about 00:06:47.36\00:06:49.06 the program that you've gone through. 00:06:49.07\00:06:51.33 I know you've had some massage therapy 00:06:51.54\00:06:54.66 and hydrotherapy. I know that first-hand. 00:06:54.78\00:06:57.75 Well, that is quite an experience, the hydrotherapy. 00:06:58.39\00:07:02.00 I'd never experienced anything like that before. 00:07:02.12\00:07:05.33 My favorite masseuse 00:07:05.66\00:07:09.57 turned the temperature up to somewhere around 117 degrees, 00:07:09.81\00:07:14.33 and then he brought it down to 56 or 58 degrees. 00:07:14.42\00:07:19.45 And this was a unique experience, to say the least! 00:07:19.69\00:07:24.33 But understanding what it does in the blood system 00:07:24.45\00:07:28.27 is what's amazing -- 00:07:28.30\00:07:29.84 that it expands them and allows the blood to flow, 00:07:29.87\00:07:33.81 and then they contract, and then again back and forth. 00:07:33.82\00:07:38.48 I don't know what you call that process, 00:07:39.00\00:07:41.87 but it's quite an experience. 00:07:41.88\00:07:43.33 Contrasting showers, yes. 00:07:43.34\00:07:45.39 Yes, but you come out -- I am out of there feeling 00:07:45.40\00:07:48.09 really great. It was a great experience, 00:07:48.24\00:07:51.51 from the tip of my toes to the top of my head. 00:07:51.60\00:07:54.72 çlaughterÑ 00:07:54.73\00:07:56.66 Now, what about the walking? 00:07:57.03\00:07:58.75 When you got here, were you about to walk 00:07:58.76\00:08:01.27 around the Half-Mile Loop? 00:08:01.30\00:08:02.81 I could walk around the Half-Mile Loop, but 00:08:03.21\00:08:07.12 the walking that I had done prior to coming here 00:08:07.66\00:08:11.75 was on a treadmill. 00:08:11.76\00:08:13.21 And it's not quite the same as walking at, 00:08:13.27\00:08:16.03 starting at 2,000-foot elevation and then 00:08:16.12\00:08:18.75 walking up and down hills, 00:08:18.81\00:08:20.81 and a half-mile trip, so... 00:08:20.82\00:08:23.33 Moved from walking 2 miles a day to, 00:08:23.42\00:08:27.30 I think the best I did was 8. 00:08:27.31\00:08:29.87 And I think I probably averaged 6 or better. 00:08:30.15\00:08:33.39 So you're walking 8 miles in one day? 00:08:33.51\00:08:35.66 Yes. - That's incredible. 00:08:35.67\00:08:37.66 That's incredible. 00:08:37.84\00:08:39.24 What about, you had cooking schools, I know that. 00:08:39.25\00:08:42.24 Did you enjoy the cooking schools? 00:08:42.36\00:08:44.81 I did. I did enjoy them. 00:08:44.82\00:08:46.60 A lot of the names of the products 00:08:47.00\00:08:50.36 I'd never heard before in my life, 00:08:50.45\00:08:53.03 so the transition from what I had been eating to 00:08:53.21\00:08:57.06 the new, were all new flavors to me. 00:08:57.21\00:09:00.30 So that was quite an experience in itself. 00:09:00.33\00:09:03.69 And your doctor -- Which doctor do you have? 00:09:04.15\00:09:06.63 Doctor Ing. - Doctor Ing. 00:09:06.78\00:09:08.42 And how did Doctor Ing see that you fared 00:09:08.43\00:09:12.09 through the program, 00:09:12.21\00:09:13.78 through the blood draws that-- You've had two now. 00:09:14.69\00:09:17.42 and I know your numbers have changed a little bit. 00:09:17.54\00:09:20.24 How is Doctor Ing seeing your results? 00:09:20.33\00:09:23.21 Well, I just finished with an appointment with him 00:09:23.39\00:09:26.87 before I leave Weimar, 00:09:26.88\00:09:29.15 and he was very encouraged about what's happened in me. 00:09:29.33\00:09:34.09 And in addition to other things, the counts, 00:09:34.27\00:09:38.27 he was encouraged by the weight loss. 00:09:38.28\00:09:41.39 - And of course I was, obviously. 00:09:42.12\00:09:44.03 Twenty-one pounds is a significant 00:09:44.15\00:09:46.84 amount of weight to lose in 18 days. 00:09:46.85\00:09:49.66 And by the way, that's the amount I lost 00:09:49.72\00:09:51.66 when I came through the program. 00:09:51.69\00:09:53.54 Twenty-one, twenty-two -- right in there. 00:09:53.66\00:09:56.39 So, you're on your way. 00:09:56.66\00:09:58.42 I know we're going to be in contact with one another, 00:09:58.43\00:10:01.00 as you promised. 00:10:01.21\00:10:02.51 And I want to thank you for joining us on our program. 00:10:02.54\00:10:06.00 - Been my pleasure. 00:10:06.60\00:10:08.27 - God bless you. Don't wait. 00:11:02.07\00:11:04.09 Give us a call at: 00:11:04.54\00:11:06.27 Or visit our website: 00:11:09.33\00:11:10.57 Welcome back friends, and as I promised, 00:11:28.24\00:11:30.36 the Doctor Ing in the studio. 00:11:30.37\00:11:32.12 How are you, Doctor Ing? - It's great to see you. 00:11:32.18\00:11:34.03 It's always good to see you. - Wonderful to be here. 00:11:34.06\00:11:36.66 You know Doctor Ing, I want to get right into this interview 00:11:36.72\00:11:40.03 talking about Milton. 00:11:40.06\00:11:41.66 And when I first met him, 00:11:41.78\00:11:45.00 although he seemed very jovial, 00:11:45.27\00:11:47.66 he was quite sick. 00:11:47.81\00:11:50.27 Tell us a little bit about his transition 00:11:50.39\00:11:52.72 in these last 17 days. 00:11:52.73\00:11:54.36 Well, he had diabetes, 00:11:54.37\00:11:56.78 he had high blood pressure, 00:11:56.81\00:11:58.87 he had high cholesterol, 00:11:59.00\00:12:01.72 and he was a little bit too short. 00:12:02.06\00:12:04.75 çlaughterÑ Too short! 00:12:04.76\00:12:06.84 For the weight that he had, he should have been taller. 00:12:06.85\00:12:09.81 But we weren't able to figure out a way 00:12:10.48\00:12:12.36 to help him grow taller, so I guess we 00:12:12.42\00:12:14.39 proceeded to help him lose weight. 00:12:14.60\00:12:16.45 And in that respect, he did very well. 00:12:16.51\00:12:18.39 So I'm going to assume that... 00:12:18.45\00:12:19.84 You said that he had these various things going on. 00:12:20.12\00:12:24.63 That implies he no longer has them. 00:12:24.66\00:12:26.69 Is that correct? - Well, yes and no. 00:12:27.03\00:12:30.18 His blood pressure by the time he left was 00:12:30.30\00:12:33.66 normal without having to use any blood pressure medicines. 00:12:33.78\00:12:37.45 His diabetes -- his blood sugars were normal. 00:12:37.46\00:12:41.87 without having to use any medication. 00:12:42.06\00:12:44.30 He came in using some. 00:12:44.33\00:12:46.69 And also he came in using some 00:12:46.81\00:12:50.15 cholesterol-lowering medication. 00:12:50.48\00:12:52.72 which was stopped, 00:12:52.81\00:12:54.24 because we wanted to see what his real numbers were. 00:12:54.25\00:12:56.60 And you know, his numbers to start with were less than 150. 00:12:56.72\00:13:00.87 Around 147, 148. 00:13:01.06\00:13:03.33 And even though we stopped his medicine, 00:13:03.34\00:13:06.12 his numbers stayed right around the same area. 00:13:06.21\00:13:09.30 So showing that a good, whole-plant-food, 00:13:09.42\00:13:13.03 plant-based diet 00:13:13.15\00:13:14.66 is really the way to go to get your cholesterol down. 00:13:14.72\00:13:17.39 It's not saying, "Doc! My cholesterol's high! 00:13:17.40\00:13:19.69 Give me a prescription for some medicine!" 00:13:19.70\00:13:22.18 It's saying, "Doc, my cholesterol's high! 00:13:23.18\00:13:25.33 Should I eat plant foods?" 00:13:25.34\00:13:27.06 That would be a much better response, 00:13:27.07\00:13:29.45 but you know, that isn't the usual response 00:13:29.48\00:13:31.12 of the average patient. - Now let me ask you this, 00:13:31.13\00:13:32.42 because I know it's a question 00:13:32.48\00:13:33.87 that people have asked me in the past. 00:13:33.88\00:13:35.63 With regards to medication, 00:13:35.69\00:13:37.63 Let's say I'm taking a medication, whatever that is. 00:13:37.69\00:13:41.39 Does any one medication take longer to 00:13:41.63\00:13:45.51 be eliminated from the system? 00:13:45.66\00:13:48.45 Some patients do take longer to be eliminated from the system. 00:13:49.09\00:13:53.06 They say they have "half life." 00:13:53.24\00:13:55.36 You think of medications in the "half life." 00:13:55.45\00:13:57.48 In other words, after a certain amount of time, 00:13:57.54\00:14:01.03 half of the effect of that medication 00:14:01.12\00:14:04.18 or half of that medication has been 00:14:04.19\00:14:06.39 removed from the body. 00:14:06.40\00:14:07.72 So it is true that some medicines 00:14:07.73\00:14:10.24 take longer than others. 00:14:10.25\00:14:11.27 How long would that period be? 00:14:11.28\00:14:12.87 Would it...1 day, 5 days, a week? 00:14:12.88\00:14:15.48 Well it really depends on the medications. 00:14:15.75\00:14:18.03 Most of the ones that he was on that we were using, 00:14:18.09\00:14:20.30 the effect of those medications 00:14:20.36\00:14:22.60 should be gone within a few days. 00:14:22.63\00:14:24.30 So then it's fair to say that if a guest comes here, 00:14:24.39\00:14:28.03 and he's stopping medications, 00:14:28.09\00:14:30.15 say, after 5 days, 00:14:30.24\00:14:31.75 then before he leaves here, 00:14:31.87\00:14:33.54 the numbers he gets from the blood draw 00:14:33.55\00:14:36.30 that we sent out to the labs, 00:14:36.31\00:14:38.12 those are the real, true numbers. 00:14:38.18\00:14:39.75 Yeah, that's a reflection of where he is 00:14:39.76\00:14:42.72 without the medications. 00:14:42.73\00:14:44.69 Now I want to talk about his weight loss, 00:14:44.87\00:14:47.12 because I know a lot of viewers 00:14:47.13\00:14:48.66 are quite interested in weight loss, 00:14:48.67\00:14:50.48 and I was one of them, of course. 00:14:50.63\00:14:52.42 Weight loss -- did he actually lose 21 pounds? 00:14:52.60\00:14:57.36 Was that fat? Was some of it food? 00:14:57.45\00:15:00.18 Was some of it water? 00:15:00.19\00:15:02.09 Tell us a little bit about that. 00:15:02.10\00:15:03.33 Well of course some of it was water, 00:15:03.36\00:15:05.03 but you know, his total weight loss 00:15:05.24\00:15:07.42 was 20.8 pounds. 00:15:07.51\00:15:09.60 And so he did really very well. 00:15:09.61\00:15:13.21 I've had an opportunity to visit with him since then, 00:15:13.24\00:15:17.48 and he has continued to lose even more weight. 00:15:17.49\00:15:20.12 In fact, when I talked to him he said, "You know, 00:15:20.21\00:15:22.75 I've lost a total of 31 pounds." 00:15:23.00\00:15:25.48 The other thing was his wife... 00:15:25.49\00:15:27.54 She was here and she was a little bit discouraged 00:15:27.84\00:15:30.33 because she hadn't lost quite so much weight. 00:15:30.36\00:15:32.39 But since, you know, in the total time now, 00:15:32.48\00:15:35.63 she's lost 11 and a half, 12 pounds, 00:15:35.78\00:15:37.87 and of course she's very pleased about that as well. 00:15:37.88\00:15:40.18 Well isn't it true that women have a tendency 00:15:40.39\00:15:43.21 to lose weight at a slower pace than men? 00:15:43.24\00:15:46.48 It seems to be that's what we find here. 00:15:46.57\00:15:49.39 They lose weight; it takes them a little bit longer, 00:15:49.42\00:15:53.12 but that's okay, and that's why we have to 00:15:53.13\00:15:55.18 work with them and encourage them. 00:15:55.36\00:15:56.60 You know, "Don't get discouraged, don't give up. 00:15:56.78\00:15:58.72 Just keep following the principles that you've learned 00:15:58.84\00:16:01.60 and you will continue to improve." 00:16:01.72\00:16:04.09 Doctor, is there something you can tell our viewers about-- 00:16:04.21\00:16:08.87 Let's say that they want to come to our program, 00:16:09.15\00:16:12.33 but they're a little afraid of what's going to happen here. 00:16:12.48\00:16:16.69 Can you reassure them that this is a safe place to be? 00:16:16.78\00:16:22.54 So to speak, and I mean from a doctor's point of view. 00:16:22.75\00:16:26.54 Certainly. You're right, some patients are afraid. 00:16:26.55\00:16:29.72 They say, "I'm really sick and tired of being sick and tired, 00:16:29.87\00:16:34.75 but I'm afraid. I'm afraid if I go there, 00:16:34.78\00:16:38.09 I'm never going to have any more fun again." 00:16:38.10\00:16:41.30 They think that we're going to take away all their fun. 00:16:41.39\00:16:44.48 And that really isn't the case. 00:16:44.51\00:16:46.75 Preventive medicine, which is what we work with... 00:16:47.09\00:16:49.57 Preventive medicine will give the guest, 00:16:49.75\00:16:53.30 give our patients, more life to enjoy the fun! 00:16:53.42\00:16:56.72 - I remember that lecture. 00:16:56.78\00:16:59.09 Yeah. It's true, it really is! 00:16:59.15\00:17:00.81 And the other thing is, 00:17:00.84\00:17:02.24 We really don't take away anything that's bad for them. 00:17:02.25\00:17:05.75 What we really do is, 00:17:05.84\00:17:07.09 it's better to say we replace the things in their 00:17:07.18\00:17:10.45 life and their lifestyle that are not conducive to health 00:17:10.54\00:17:14.48 with things that are conducive to health. 00:17:14.57\00:17:16.75 So we don't take things away, 00:17:16.81\00:17:18.60 we, you know, say, 00:17:18.75\00:17:20.24 "Here, why don't you do this?" or "Why don't you try this?" 00:17:20.25\00:17:23.09 And when you do this you're going to feel better. 00:17:23.42\00:17:26.18 Your blood pressures will come down, 00:17:26.36\00:17:28.81 your cholesterols will come down and stay down, 00:17:28.84\00:17:31.72 and you'll have more energy. 00:17:31.78\00:17:33.66 And invariably, this is what we find. 00:17:34.03\00:17:35.72 Because one of the questions that I often ask the patients 00:17:35.81\00:17:39.39 after they've been here a while, 00:17:39.51\00:17:41.33 I say, "I want you to tell me 00:17:41.42\00:17:43.27 where your energy level was when you... 00:17:43.28\00:17:45.51 before you got to Weimar." 00:17:45.72\00:17:47.72 Zero is, "I'm so tired I can't get out of bed," 00:17:47.73\00:17:52.21 and 10 is, "I can go forever!" so to speak. 00:17:52.36\00:17:57.33 And so you know, oftentimes when they get here, 00:17:57.36\00:17:59.63 well, before they get here it'll be 1 and 2. 00:17:59.78\00:18:04.39 And I do remember talking to a patient 00:18:04.45\00:18:06.63 within the last few days, 00:18:06.64\00:18:07.66 he says, "Yeah, most of my days I spent in bed. 00:18:07.72\00:18:11.18 I was just, hurt so much and I felt so bad, 00:18:11.19\00:18:14.48 I just couldn't get out of bed." 00:18:14.51\00:18:16.75 And when I talked to him just a few days ago he says, 00:18:16.76\00:18:20.21 "Well I'm getting out and I'm walking 3 and 4 miles every day. 00:18:20.22\00:18:24.00 I feel so much better." 00:18:26.21\00:18:28.06 And this individual had some gastro-intestinal problems. 00:18:28.15\00:18:31.72 He had almost chronic gastro-intestinal pain. 00:18:31.78\00:18:37.15 He says, "I don't have that anymore." 00:18:37.27\00:18:39.24 He says, "My pants are so loose I've had to get new pants, 00:18:39.30\00:18:43.69 because they're gonna, they'll fall off. 00:18:43.70\00:18:45.57 My legs are so much stronger. 00:18:45.63\00:18:47.21 I can walk 3 and 4 miles at a time, 00:18:47.22\00:18:49.09 and when I got to Weimar I couldn't do any of that!" 00:18:49.10\00:18:51.78 So God's blessing and good food 00:18:51.84\00:18:55.33 works wonders in people's life and health. 00:18:55.36\00:18:58.36 We're just so fortunate that we get to see this 00:18:58.78\00:19:01.75 month in and month out. 00:19:01.76\00:19:03.81 And though I see it every month, it's still hard to believe 00:19:03.84\00:19:07.72 that just a simple thing like changing my life 00:19:07.84\00:19:11.69 could change it in so many ways. 00:19:11.81\00:19:14.75 Spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally -- 00:19:14.81\00:19:19.03 all these things have changed. 00:19:19.06\00:19:21.39 And I see this in just that short period of time. 00:19:21.40\00:19:24.51 Of course, now I've had almost 5 years to work on that, 00:19:24.60\00:19:27.66 and it is such a blessing. 00:19:27.87\00:19:30.45 Now Milton, I know, he's taking a trip with you. 00:19:30.54\00:19:35.18 Is that correct? - That's correct. 00:19:35.36\00:19:37.30 And you're taking a group of people to China. 00:19:37.36\00:19:40.12 Well, yes. He heard about that and says, 00:19:40.54\00:19:43.00 "Well, I'd really like to go!" 00:19:43.01\00:19:45.03 - And so he's going! 00:19:45.12\00:19:46.69 And what about when you're on the road like that? 00:19:46.75\00:19:49.30 Are you able to eat the proper foods, 00:19:49.33\00:19:53.57 even though you're in a foreign country? 00:19:53.60\00:19:55.39 Well, one of the nice things about 00:19:55.40\00:19:57.75 if you arrange for a group, 00:19:57.78\00:19:59.78 one of the specifications that we talked 00:19:59.79\00:20:01.87 to the people who helped organize it, 00:20:01.88\00:20:03.72 it must be a totally plant-based diet, 00:20:03.81\00:20:07.09 you know, whole plant foods. 00:20:07.36\00:20:08.84 So there will be no meat, no fish, no chicken, 00:20:09.00\00:20:11.75 no eggs, and no dairy products. 00:20:11.76\00:20:14.06 And so that was something that many people were interested in. 00:20:14.24\00:20:18.06 Because we've been on other tour groups where 00:20:18.15\00:20:20.72 you kind of had to struggle around and find things. 00:20:21.00\00:20:25.54 The safest way and the only way, according to 00:20:25.75\00:20:28.48 the person who helped us organize this, is 00:20:28.51\00:20:31.15 well, if you have your own group, you're in control. 00:20:31.16\00:20:33.30 You can decide what you want them to have and what you don't. 00:20:33.31\00:20:36.12 - Right. - And it makes a big difference. 00:20:36.36\00:20:38.30 I know you've had cruises with people, 00:20:38.54\00:20:40.63 where you've taken them out on a boat, 00:20:40.64\00:20:42.48 and had all this luxury and everything, 00:20:42.49\00:20:44.54 and still kept them on a plant-based diet. 00:20:44.69\00:20:47.42 That's right, because you have the opportunities to do that. 00:20:47.54\00:20:50.18 You can choose. - Yeah. 00:20:50.21\00:20:52.00 Well Doctor Ing, it's always a pleasure to see you. 00:20:52.15\00:20:55.36 I want to thank you for coming on the show. 00:20:55.51\00:20:58.03 God bless you and the work you do. 00:20:58.15\00:21:00.75 Thanks again, Ron. 00:21:00.76\00:21:02.36 And folks, thank you for joining us, 00:21:02.63\00:21:04.36 but don't go away, because 00:21:04.37\00:21:06.21 we have an important message right after this break. 00:21:06.30\00:21:10.45 Hi, and thank you for joining us. 00:21:24.42\00:21:26.03 Today we have with us Doctor DeRose. 00:21:26.06\00:21:28.09 It's a pleasure to have you here. 00:21:28.24\00:21:29.48 It's great to be with you, Cathy. 00:21:29.49\00:21:30.78 What do you have to share with us today? 00:21:31.03\00:21:32.27 Well Cathy, you know, one of the questions 00:21:32.54\00:21:34.24 that often comes up when we speak about health 00:21:34.25\00:21:36.51 is the subject of fasting. 00:21:36.54\00:21:39.06 And I like to think of fasting as being the ultimate 00:21:39.57\00:21:43.09 affordable remedy. 00:21:43.10\00:21:44.84 - You ever thought about that? No I haven't, 00:21:45.15\00:21:46.48 but that's a good point. - Yeah. 00:21:46.49\00:21:48.00 I mean, people are always trying to say, well, 00:21:48.01\00:21:49.84 "You know, all these natural things, 00:21:49.87\00:21:51.45 they cost so much. I gotta buy this supplement 00:21:51.54\00:21:53.84 or that one, or buy this special food." 00:21:53.85\00:21:55.84 Well fasting actually saves you money, 00:21:56.09\00:21:59.42 as well as potentially helping your health. 00:21:59.48\00:22:01.63 But a lot of people don't understand what that word means. 00:22:01.81\00:22:04.87 I mean, what kind of fasts are they? 00:22:05.03\00:22:06.87 A lot of times, when people hear the word "fast" 00:22:07.00\00:22:09.75 they think of the most extreme type of fasting. 00:22:09.81\00:22:13.03 And really, the most extreme type of fast 00:22:13.27\00:22:15.30 I've ever recommended as a physician 00:22:15.31\00:22:17.36 is a water-only fast. 00:22:17.37\00:22:18.57 - For how long a time? 00:22:18.66\00:22:19.75 Well, I'd rather probably not give a lot of details. 00:22:20.06\00:22:23.63 Why I'm saying that is 00:22:23.66\00:22:25.12 not that I haven't prescribed fasts 00:22:25.13\00:22:26.72 for several days that are water-only, 00:22:26.73\00:22:28.48 I would only prescribe them in a medically controlled setting. 00:22:28.66\00:22:34.15 At least I know the patient, I know 00:22:34.36\00:22:36.42 they don't have any electrolyte imbalances, 00:22:36.43\00:22:39.24 mineral problems, they don't have any 00:22:39.27\00:22:42.18 diuretics that they're taking, water pills. 00:22:42.19\00:22:45.36 Because there's a number of things that could 00:22:45.37\00:22:46.63 make that potentially very dangerous. 00:22:46.64\00:22:48.51 Sodium could get very low, 00:22:48.63\00:22:50.18 or potassium or magnesium. 00:22:50.27\00:22:51.84 So I don't as a general rule tell people, 00:22:52.03\00:22:55.00 "Just go on a water-only fast for many days." 00:22:55.01\00:22:57.30 But having said that, we know of biblical examples 00:22:57.45\00:23:00.57 of people that did that, 00:23:00.60\00:23:01.81 and I'm not saying that God sometimes 00:23:01.82\00:23:03.09 doesn't lead people to do that. 00:23:03.10\00:23:04.78 I'm just saying that is not the only kind of fast, 00:23:04.79\00:23:07.81 and if one of you as one of our viewers 00:23:07.84\00:23:11.15 is contemplating that type of fast, 00:23:11.21\00:23:12.78 just make sure you don't have medical problems, 00:23:12.87\00:23:14.78 there isn't a history in the family of mineral imbalances, 00:23:14.81\00:23:18.21 things like that. And if you've got any questions, 00:23:18.27\00:23:20.06 talk to your doctor before going on any kind of protracted 00:23:20.21\00:23:23.24 water-only fast. 00:23:23.36\00:23:25.18 But having said all that, 00:23:25.33\00:23:28.09 a fast is simply anything where you step away 00:23:28.21\00:23:31.72 from your customary intake of food. 00:23:31.75\00:23:34.36 So one very common fast that I'll recommend 00:23:34.54\00:23:38.18 is leaving off the evening meal. 00:23:38.27\00:23:40.75 Many people who have weight problems 00:23:40.78\00:23:43.42 sleeping difficulties, 00:23:43.45\00:23:45.39 digestive problems like reflux, 00:23:45.54\00:23:48.03 you know where they have the heartburn 00:23:48.27\00:23:49.54 when they lay down at night. 00:23:49.55\00:23:51.03 By leaving off the evening meal, 00:23:51.06\00:23:53.03 they can often get dramatic benefit. 00:23:53.04\00:23:55.24 Now having said that, Cathy, 00:23:55.25\00:23:57.45 some individuals, because they 00:23:57.54\00:23:58.87 have a lot of acid in their stomach, 00:23:58.88\00:24:00.51 just going with the total 00:24:00.84\00:24:02.33 avoidance of the meal is a problem. 00:24:02.34\00:24:04.27 So eating a lighter meal in the evening. 00:24:04.60\00:24:07.03 If they don't have diabetes, it might be eating some fruit. 00:24:07.06\00:24:10.48 Fruit is an excellent quickly-digested food. 00:24:10.60\00:24:14.00 You eat it several hours before you go to bed, 00:24:14.12\00:24:16.15 there's nothing in your stomach, so when you lay down, 00:24:16.16\00:24:18.54 there's less that can come back up that swallowing tube. 00:24:18.55\00:24:22.39 So it could be considered a fast, 00:24:22.45\00:24:23.75 even though you're just cutting back? 00:24:23.76\00:24:25.21 Yes, it's a type of fast. 00:24:25.30\00:24:26.60 So you may have heard of a fruit fast? 00:24:26.61\00:24:28.57 Well you could do a fruit fast every evening. 00:24:28.72\00:24:30.78 You see, that's the idea. - And even for a diabetic? 00:24:30.87\00:24:33.36 Now, well, that's the catch. 00:24:33.63\00:24:35.21 For a diabetic, the fruits often 00:24:35.27\00:24:37.06 raise their blood sugars significantly. 00:24:37.07\00:24:39.15 So those individuals, 00:24:39.27\00:24:40.78 if they are going to eat a lighter meal in the evening, 00:24:40.79\00:24:43.09 we typically say, "Stick with the vegetables." 00:24:43.10\00:24:45.87 Celery, lettuce, spinach... 00:24:45.88\00:24:50.03 A lot of the leaf vegetables are excellent, 00:24:50.09\00:24:52.78 stalk vegetables, stem vegetables, 00:24:52.84\00:24:56.87 flower vegetables -- your cauliflower, your broccoli. 00:24:57.09\00:24:59.87 Those things are very good. You can steam them 00:24:59.88\00:25:02.57 so they're more easily digested. 00:25:02.63\00:25:04.51 But those are excellent because 00:25:04.57\00:25:06.12 they keep the blood sugar very stable. 00:25:06.13\00:25:07.84 The root vegetables on the other hand 00:25:08.24\00:25:10.60 and the fruits, they tend to raise those blood sugar levels. 00:25:10.69\00:25:13.81 So the idea of a fast 00:25:14.09\00:25:15.66 is stepping away from your habitual consumption. 00:25:15.67\00:25:18.03 It can be on one extreme that total water-only fast, 00:25:18.04\00:25:21.81 but it can be a whole variety of things in between, 00:25:21.82\00:25:24.21 from leaving off an evening meal 00:25:24.22\00:25:26.18 to eating just a lighter meal. 00:25:26.30\00:25:28.09 So again, speak to your doctor about different fasts 00:25:28.12\00:25:30.78 and what you'd do and what your body's like 00:25:30.79\00:25:32.21 so he knows. 00:25:32.22\00:25:33.27 Especially if you're doing that extreme fasting. 00:25:33.30\00:25:35.33 Now, typically you don't need to talk with a doctor 00:25:35.45\00:25:37.48 if you're just going to eat less. 00:25:37.49\00:25:38.75 I mean, the average American, 00:25:38.84\00:25:40.72 it would benefit them to cut back. 00:25:40.73\00:25:42.81 But if they do have blood sugar problems, yes. 00:25:42.82\00:25:44.51 And if they're taking insulin and 00:25:44.66\00:25:45.66 they dramatically decrease their intake, 00:25:45.67\00:25:47.63 well they could get into problems 00:25:47.66\00:25:48.78 with too low blood sugar. 00:25:48.79\00:25:50.39 We often prescribe fasts 00:25:50.51\00:25:52.81 in specific situations 00:25:52.84\00:25:54.87 to help the body heal itself, 00:25:55.00\00:25:56.87 or to cooperate, if you will, with God 00:25:57.09\00:25:58.84 in His healing agencies 00:25:58.85\00:26:01.39 that He actually has at work in our bodies 00:26:01.40\00:26:03.51 in addition to His own power. 00:26:03.54\00:26:05.24 So letting your body rest, too, basically. 00:26:05.30\00:26:07.57 It does give the digestive organs a rest. 00:26:07.78\00:26:10.00 It also can be very powerful 00:26:10.27\00:26:12.24 if we're talking about an auto-immune disease. 00:26:12.25\00:26:15.33 A rheumatoid arthritis, a lupus, 00:26:15.48\00:26:18.09 an inflammatory bowel disease, 00:26:18.10\00:26:20.00 these things often can respond to different types of fasting. 00:26:20.01\00:26:23.06 Well I'm glad you cleared that up. 00:26:23.12\00:26:24.27 A lot of people have questions about fasting. 00:26:24.28\00:26:25.75 For more information about fasting and 00:26:25.76\00:26:27.36 what Doctor DeRose shared with us today, 00:26:27.37\00:26:29.00 visit our website at: 00:26:29.09\00:26:30.51 Thank you for joining us. 00:26:31.45\00:26:32.72 Modern views of evolution stem all the way back 00:26:40.12\00:26:42.63 to theories developed in the mid-1800s. 00:26:42.66\00:26:45.15 Out of the same time period came ideas that shape 00:26:45.72\00:26:49.12 our educational system today. 00:26:49.15\00:26:51.30 The Common School Movement, for example, 00:26:51.84\00:26:54.21 saw schools more like a factory, 00:26:54.57\00:26:56.48 with students blindly memorizing instruction 00:26:56.49\00:26:59.24 rather than thinking for themselves. 00:26:59.27\00:27:01.24 Their curriculum was rigid and theoretical. 00:27:01.69\00:27:04.24 Instead of being flexible and practical, 00:27:04.25\00:27:07.09 it was designed to conform the individual 00:27:07.24\00:27:09.63 into a specific ideological mold 00:27:09.72\00:27:12.27 that fit the needs of an old industrial era 00:27:12.51\00:27:15.06 long since passed. 00:27:15.07\00:27:16.45 Just like our view of creation in six literal days, 00:27:17.72\00:27:21.06 we believe the Bible contains an educational blueprint 00:27:21.15\00:27:25.15 radically different from the one we see now. 00:27:25.42\00:27:27.78 Well friends, that's it for today. 00:27:41.15\00:27:42.57 Thank you for joining us. 00:27:42.58\00:27:44.12 But I know you have a friend out there, 00:27:44.15\00:27:46.15 or a relative that's been sick, 00:27:46.24\00:27:48.54 and perhaps they're sick and tired of being sick and tired. 00:27:48.60\00:27:51.39 Give us a call here at: 00:27:51.54\00:27:53.24 Don't delay. Pick up the phone 00:27:57.81\00:27:59.51 and call us at: 00:27:59.69\00:28:01.12 And may God bless you. 00:28:04.66\00:28:06.00
