00:11:30.33\00:11:32.15 Hey, great, good to be with you Ron. 00:11:32.30\00:11:33.78 It's great to see you! 00:11:33.81\00:11:34.84 It's great to be here at Weimar, 00:11:35.12\00:11:36.63 and it's great to see what the Lord's been doing 00:11:36.66\00:11:38.60 just in the couple of months that I've been here. 00:11:38.61\00:11:40.54 Yes, and tell us, tell the 00:11:40.69\00:11:41.87 viewers Doctor where you're from. 00:11:41.88\00:11:43.39 I know a lot of people out there 00:11:43.51\00:11:45.57 know Dr. DeRose, but maybe you can tell 00:11:46.00\00:11:48.06 us a little bit about your background. 00:11:48.07\00:11:50.03 Well a lot of people know me because I've 00:11:50.18\00:11:52.18 traveled around a lot. 00:11:52.27\00:11:53.27 I've worked with a number of 00:11:53.33\00:11:55.09 lifestyle centers over the years, 00:11:55.10\00:11:57.06 I've done a number of programs with 3ABN. 00:11:57.39\00:12:00.33 And most recently I've been running a medical 00:12:00.78\00:12:04.66 health related consulting practice, 00:12:05.42\00:12:07.39 doing a lot of health media, health education. 00:12:07.40\00:12:09.84 But also pastoring half time in northern New England, and Maine, 00:12:10.33\00:12:13.48 and the Lord has redirected me back 00:12:14.03\00:12:16.24 to get involved in clinical medicine 00:12:16.25\00:12:18.42 as well as continuing my 00:12:18.60\00:12:19.87 teaching and media work here at Weimar. 00:12:19.88\00:12:22.03 Well we're going to have to find a church 00:12:22.51\00:12:24.63 nearby so you can pastor a little bit too! 00:12:24.64\00:12:26.78 We don't want you to get lonely! 00:12:27.06\00:12:28.36 Ok, well we'll see how the Lord orchestrates that. 00:12:28.54\00:12:30.48 Right now I've been having plenty of opportunities 00:12:30.49\00:12:33.60 to minister, whether it's in the NEWSTART program, 00:12:33.72\00:12:36.42 we have the privilege of working with our guests, 00:12:36.66\00:12:39.21 we don't push things on them, 00:12:39.22\00:12:40.60 but we try to be sensitive to their spiritual needs. 00:12:40.84\00:12:43.03 It's really much more of a pastoral work if you will, 00:12:43.12\00:12:46.45 than typical medical practice, 00:12:46.46\00:12:48.33 because we're interested in the whole person, 00:12:48.51\00:12:50.36 their spiritual needs, 00:12:50.45\00:12:51.78 We're, as physicians, 00:12:52.09\00:12:54.03 ministering on that level as well as working with our 00:12:54.33\00:12:57.33 chaplain and others who have a focus on that level of ministry. 00:12:57.34\00:13:00.78 Well we're so glad that you're here, 00:13:01.15\00:13:02.72 and that you've chosen to be here 00:13:02.73\00:13:04.21 at Weimar, especially our NEWSTART program, 00:13:04.60\00:13:07.48 I know the college students speak very highly of you. 00:13:07.78\00:13:10.60 Right now I want to talk about Norman, 00:13:11.30\00:13:13.18 Stormin Norman! 00:13:13.78\00:13:15.06 When I first met Norm, 00:13:15.21\00:13:17.21 as you probably are aware, 00:13:18.15\00:13:19.69 he seemed very down, and very depressed. 00:13:19.70\00:13:22.12 And he shared with me, off camera, 00:13:22.72\00:13:24.78 that his loss of his wife of 45 years 00:13:25.18\00:13:28.45 just hurt him very deeply. 00:13:29.00\00:13:30.84 But I see a change, 00:13:31.57\00:13:33.18 and I know a lot of that, thank God, 00:13:33.45\00:13:36.87 that spiritualness that comes from our doctors 00:13:37.42\00:13:41.57 and our chaplain, tell us a little from 00:13:42.15\00:13:44.21 your perspective Doctor, what you saw happen? 00:13:44.22\00:13:46.48 You know, we realize today when 00:13:46.60\00:13:48.33 it comes to mental health issues, 00:13:48.34\00:13:50.09 whether a person has a frank mental health disorder, 00:13:50.12\00:13:53.00 or whether their just going through some 00:13:53.01\00:13:54.84 of the normal struggles we have in life, 00:13:54.85\00:13:56.72 Norman didn't come... he didn't tell me 00:13:57.18\00:13:59.21 he came to deal specifically with any of 00:13:59.22\00:14:01.27 those issues although he shared with me 00:14:01.28\00:14:03.27 as he shared on camera in the last segment 00:14:03.28\00:14:05.39 about that significant loss that he had. 00:14:05.51\00:14:08.06 But what we know is, where in the past many 00:14:08.24\00:14:10.60 health professionals would say, Ok that's your mind, 00:14:10.61\00:14:13.45 we've got to deal with your mind, 00:14:13.66\00:14:15.51 You need counseling, 00:14:15.52\00:14:16.57 you need to go to a grief recovery class. 00:14:16.58\00:14:18.72 And I'm not minimizing 00:14:19.09\00:14:20.54 how God has used those things, even among people that 00:14:20.69\00:14:23.69 may not have acknowledged God's leadership in the process. 00:14:23.70\00:14:26.87 But at the same time, we're 00:14:27.27\00:14:28.57 realizing today Ron that we're whole people 00:14:28.58\00:14:30.63 and that when you start addressing your diet, 00:14:31.30\00:14:33.30 when you start addressing your exercise habits, 00:14:33.54\00:14:36.27 in addition to the spiritual and the mental things 00:14:36.45\00:14:39.69 you just have this powerful 00:14:39.87\00:14:41.57 combination that moves people in quantum leaps 00:14:41.58\00:14:44.33 really as far as improvement. 00:14:44.60\00:14:45.72 Dr. Nedley has shown this with his depression recovery program. 00:14:45.78\00:14:49.42 So it's this comprehensive approach, 00:14:49.66\00:14:51.33 and this is what we're trying to do at Weimar. 00:14:51.34\00:14:53.33 So everyone that comes through 00:14:53.54\00:14:54.81 many people say, Look I'm here to lose weight, 00:14:55.18\00:14:58.00 or, I'm here for my diabetes, 00:14:58.01\00:14:59.54 or I'm here for my heart disease, 00:14:59.55\00:15:01.69 but regardless of what they're dealing with, 00:15:02.27\00:15:04.12 all of us have mental, spiritual issues. 00:15:04.15\00:15:07.51 This is not something again that we push on people, 00:15:07.81\00:15:10.30 but when we deal with the whole 00:15:10.45\00:15:11.75 person often these things come out, 00:15:11.76\00:15:13.24 and even if the person doesn't ever volunteer anything, 00:15:13.48\00:15:16.18 we find as they get on that better lifestyle, 00:15:16.63\00:15:19.21 they get all these tremendous benefits on a mental 00:15:19.33\00:15:21.54 and spiritual level, as well as the physical level. 00:15:21.55\00:15:23.75 In other words, 00:15:24.03\00:15:25.87 What I just heard you say is that 00:15:26.42\00:15:28.06 sometimes people don't even know their depressed, 00:15:28.07\00:15:30.36 and they come to our program, 00:15:30.63\00:15:33.06 and before you know it, we see them 00:15:33.30\00:15:34.84 come out of this shell, if you will. 00:15:34.85\00:15:36.48 And I saw that in Norman, and I was so 00:15:36.87\00:15:39.54 moved by it, because I felt for him, 00:15:40.12\00:15:43.24 you know how we do. 00:15:43.25\00:15:44.81 So, tell us, 00:15:45.57\00:15:46.75 as a doctor, 00:15:47.30\00:15:49.00 what do you look for when you interview these guests, 00:15:49.36\00:15:53.33 or patients as you call them? 00:15:53.34\00:15:55.45 Well we do a very comprehensive interview process, 00:15:55.63\00:15:58.84 or history as we call it in the medical field. 00:15:58.85\00:16:01.78 We have people complete a very detailed database. 00:16:02.18\00:16:05.30 Is that part of the physical? What we know as the physical? 00:16:05.48\00:16:09.21 Well, normally if someone comes in for a physical to a doctor, 00:16:09.27\00:16:13.72 a doctor who is doing a really comprehensive 00:16:14.00\00:16:16.51 physical will also do a comprehensive history. 00:16:16.52\00:16:19.18 And when I was in medical 00:16:19.36\00:16:20.66 school they shared the dictum with us 00:16:20.67\00:16:22.57 that about 90 percent of diagnoses 00:16:22.58\00:16:24.36 are actually made in the history, 00:16:24.37\00:16:26.06 not in the physical. 00:16:26.36\00:16:27.54 So when you hear the patient's story, 00:16:28.09\00:16:29.57 when you hear about their background. 00:16:29.58\00:16:31.09 And when I speak about a comprehensive history, 00:16:31.36\00:16:34.48 here at Weimar we actually do a spiritual history as well. 00:16:35.03\00:16:37.66 And by the way, this is not something that's 00:16:38.03\00:16:40.15 happening in just Christian establishments. 00:16:40.16\00:16:42.18 In the medical field as a whole, we're realizing more and more 00:16:42.36\00:16:46.18 that we've been negligent in looking at 00:16:46.36\00:16:48.39 various components of someone's medical history. 00:16:48.40\00:16:50.81 Spiritual history is very important, 00:16:51.12\00:16:52.75 so we include a spiritual history, 00:16:52.76\00:16:54.39 a mental health history 00:16:54.40\00:16:55.42 so a person will complete all this before coming to Weimar. 00:16:55.78\00:16:58.84 The physicians will review that, 00:16:59.24\00:17:01.06 and then when we sit with the individual patient 00:17:01.39\00:17:03.87 we will discuss areas with them 00:17:03.88\00:17:05.75 based on the responses they gave us. 00:17:05.76\00:17:07.87 So we get a very complete idea of 00:17:08.09\00:17:09.66 what's happened throughout their life 00:17:09.67\00:17:11.45 as far as medical diagnoses as far as surgeries, 00:17:11.84\00:17:14.60 but also as far as significant life events, 00:17:14.87\00:17:17.42 losses, stresses, things of that nature. 00:17:17.43\00:17:19.69 Now I want to address the hour 00:17:20.45\00:17:24.36 that you spent with him prior to him coming on the program. 00:17:24.72\00:17:29.30 I find that that is unusual. Is it unusual here at 00:17:30.09\00:17:33.39 Weimar that doctors spend an hour... 00:17:33.40\00:17:35.75 I mean at one time? 00:17:35.76\00:17:37.06 Well the philosophy we have here is really 00:17:37.12\00:17:39.27 taking the time with our patients that they need. 00:17:39.28\00:17:41.66 And if we have a patient scheduled for an hour block, 00:17:42.27\00:17:45.42 we spend an hour with them. 00:17:45.66\00:17:47.57 We typically schedule our initial visits for an hour. 00:17:47.78\00:17:51.06 Subsequent visits we schedule for a half hour. 00:17:51.27\00:17:54.21 So if a person needs more than that half hour time, 00:17:54.42\00:17:57.03 if they have flexibility in their schedule, 00:17:57.30\00:17:59.39 and I in mine, we can just continue the visit right then. 00:17:59.40\00:18:02.12 If we're scheduled more tightly, 00:18:02.36\00:18:04.57 we'll ask the person to come back. 00:18:04.78\00:18:06.66 I'll say, I know we didn't finish this, 00:18:06.81\00:18:08.75 let me reconnect with you. 00:18:08.76\00:18:10.06 So the focus is really unlike 00:18:10.33\00:18:12.21 commercialized medicine, which today it's how many people 00:18:12.54\00:18:15.66 you can get through the door and out and generate that bill. 00:18:15.67\00:18:18.87 Here it's really Jesus' model of ministry, 00:18:19.33\00:18:22.06 where he takes the time that people need, 00:18:22.30\00:18:24.42 if a person needs more time they have that, 00:18:24.43\00:18:26.57 If a person doesn't need the time, 00:18:26.72\00:18:28.60 we don't seatbelt them into the chair 00:18:28.61\00:18:30.60 and say, You got to be here for an hour 00:18:30.78\00:18:32.42 because this is what we do here at Weimar! 00:18:32.43\00:18:34.12 If they've got a ten minute concern, 00:18:34.18\00:18:35.84 and their doing well 00:18:35.85\00:18:37.27 we might go for a walk with them during that time. 00:18:37.33\00:18:40.12 And by the way, I might add that we don't charge guests 00:18:40.42\00:18:43.87 if they stay an extra half hour or hour. 00:18:44.42\00:18:47.12 you don't have the nurse outside handing 00:18:47.42\00:18:50.18 them a bill as they walk back to their door! 00:18:50.19\00:18:53.09 It is, it's a wonderful system because of the package price, 00:18:53.24\00:18:55.81 so someone knows when they come what the expense is. 00:18:56.06\00:18:58.69 And all the medical visits are included in that, 00:18:59.00\00:19:01.51 whether I spend an hour everyday with a patient, 00:19:01.52\00:19:04.06 or whether it's ten minutes every other day. 00:19:04.30\00:19:06.54 - Yes. 00:19:06.63\00:19:07.66 Now in regards to any 00:19:07.84\00:19:09.51 medications that Norman was taking, 00:19:09.52\00:19:12.12 was he able to come off any of these? 00:19:12.51\00:19:14.78 Or had he reduced medication? 00:19:14.84\00:19:17.63 How do you go about that? That's another question 00:19:17.78\00:19:20.36 guests ask, actually I receive in phone calls. 00:19:20.54\00:19:24.54 How do we take people off of medication? 00:19:24.63\00:19:26.54 You don't say, Stop... 00:19:26.69\00:19:28.51 Well it's an interesting dynamic, 00:19:29.06\00:19:30.87 those of us who like 00:19:30.88\00:19:32.09 myself have worked in 00:19:32.10\00:19:33.27 lifestyle medicine for many years, 00:19:33.28\00:19:35.15 I mean although I'm new here to Weimar as I mentioned earlier, 00:19:35.36\00:19:38.36 I've worked in these kind of 00:19:38.37\00:19:39.69 programs off and on for some 25 years. 00:19:39.70\00:19:41.51 So what we know, is that lifestyle is so powerful 00:19:42.21\00:19:45.66 when it comes to blood pressure, 00:19:46.00\00:19:47.48 when it comes to blood sugar, when it comes to cholesterol, 00:19:47.49\00:19:50.21 that some of those drugs that a person is using, 00:19:50.63\00:19:53.45 if we don't stop them, if we're not very vigilant, 00:19:53.46\00:19:56.30 they'll get in trouble early on. 00:19:56.51\00:19:58.03 Now cholesterol medications 00:19:58.18\00:20:00.03 are not dangerous if we don't stop them quick enough. 00:20:00.21\00:20:02.30 I mean they'll just have a very low cholesterol. 00:20:02.39\00:20:04.60 But to have a very very low blood 00:20:05.15\00:20:07.27 pressure is something that can kill you! 00:20:07.28\00:20:09.75 So when someone is on blood pressure medicines we 00:20:10.42\00:20:12.75 have to monitor their blood pressure carefully... 00:20:12.76\00:20:15.15 - So you reduce the medication. - 00:20:15.27\00:20:16.75 Exactly, and we reduce the medications. Many people today 00:20:16.76\00:20:19.63 are on combination drugs for blood pressure. 00:20:19.87\00:20:22.45 They may think they're just taking a single 00:20:22.72\00:20:24.87 medication but it's actually one or it's actually 00:20:24.88\00:20:27.36 a combination of maybe two 00:20:27.72\00:20:29.21 sometimes three medications, often two, 00:20:29.22\00:20:31.24 that are together, so we have to split 00:20:31.48\00:20:33.63 those out sometimes, stop one of them, 00:20:33.64\00:20:35.72 and start them on another it's by 00:20:36.09\00:20:37.60 giving them another prescription. 00:20:37.61\00:20:39.15 It's the same with blood sugar. 00:20:39.51\00:20:40.72 Many of the blood sugar pills today, 00:20:41.12\00:20:42.63 although someone thinks they're just taking one drug 00:20:42.64\00:20:44.84 they may be taking a 00:20:44.85\00:20:46.03 combination pill that has two drugs. 00:20:46.04\00:20:47.57 And one of those drugs is very dangerous 00:20:47.87\00:20:50.18 as far as dangerously lowering blood sugar 00:20:50.19\00:20:52.45 if we don't make adjustments. 00:20:52.51\00:20:53.60 So we have to separate the drugs, 00:20:53.75\00:20:55.69 and then maybe stop one, 00:20:55.70\00:20:57.12 and then continue the other or gradually decrease it. 00:20:57.45\00:21:00.09 Well I find that very interesting. 00:21:00.54\00:21:02.60 In my case I was taking 00:21:02.61\00:21:04.00 two blood pressure medications, 00:21:04.39\00:21:06.21 one was to make sure that the 00:21:06.66\00:21:08.33 first one didn't ruin my kidneys. 00:21:08.34\00:21:10.12 So in closing do you have any last minute thoughts? 00:21:11.18\00:21:14.54 I guess what I would say is that the 00:21:15.09\00:21:16.87 Weimar program is designed for individuals. 00:21:16.88\00:21:19.09 We would love to help you and share this very 00:21:19.42\00:21:21.84 personalized approach modeled after Jesus' ministry. 00:21:21.85\00:21:24.63 Dr. DeRose, thank you for joining us on our set. 00:21:25.39\00:21:27.87 And thank you folks, don't go away 00:21:28.42\00:21:30.21 we got a tip for you in just a second. 00:21:30.22\00:21:32.12 Hello and welcome to NEWSTART at HOME, 00:21:46.51\00:21:48.30 I'm your host Don Mackintosh, 00:21:48.31\00:21:49.60 and today we're delighted to have you with us, 00:21:49.75\00:21:51.54 but we're also delighted to have Dr. David DeRose. 00:21:51.69\00:21:54.54 He's a specialist in internal medicine, 00:21:54.63\00:21:56.39 and, welcome to the program. 00:21:56.63\00:21:58.15 Great to be with you Don. 00:21:58.33\00:21:59.60 And today we're going to be talking about water. 00:22:00.30\00:22:02.78 Why is it that we should be interested in water? 00:22:03.24\00:22:05.51 Where should we get it? When should we get it? 00:22:05.52\00:22:07.69 And all those things. 00:22:07.70\00:22:08.69 I mean for a lot of people water 00:22:08.81\00:22:10.33 sounds like a very mundane subject. 00:22:10.34\00:22:11.84 I mean it's all around us, it comes out of the sky! 00:22:12.09\00:22:15.21 Really! I mean people say water! 00:22:15.69\00:22:19.30 But when I was a medical student, 00:22:19.42\00:22:21.33 nobody was really catching on to the values of water. 00:22:21.42\00:22:25.39 Many of my classmates kind of made fun of me 00:22:25.63\00:22:28.42 because I actually used to carry a water bottle with me. 00:22:28.43\00:22:31.51 I mean it was radical! 00:22:31.66\00:22:32.87 Now lots of people carry water bottles. 00:22:33.09\00:22:34.42 Sure, because we're starting to recognize that 00:22:34.48\00:22:36.48 this is something that's got profound health benefits. 00:22:36.49\00:22:38.78 Don, I don't need to review for today our viewers 00:22:39.63\00:22:43.27 some of the heart protective benefits of water. 00:22:43.48\00:22:45.87 I think many people have heard that 00:22:46.00\00:22:47.81 ground breaking research that 00:22:48.06\00:22:49.42 came out of Loma Linda University 00:22:49.43\00:22:51.03 oh probably about ten years ago now, 00:22:51.36\00:22:53.39 where they actually found that those who drank more water, 00:22:53.57\00:22:56.63 actually had substantially less heart disease. 00:22:56.75\00:22:59.63 Yes, right. So what are we going to talk 00:22:59.66\00:23:01.36 about since we're not going to cover that? 00:23:01.37\00:23:03.12 We're going to talk about water and weight reduction. 00:23:03.15\00:23:06.63 Weight reduction! I've always 00:23:07.03\00:23:08.66 heard that it increases your weight. 00:23:08.67\00:23:10.72 Well sure, water has weight, 00:23:11.21\00:23:13.09 water weighs about a pound for about a pint of water. 00:23:13.54\00:23:16.39 So if I'm standing on the scale, 00:23:16.60\00:23:18.45 I weight myself, then I 00:23:18.69\00:23:20.03 quickly chug down two pints of water, 00:23:20.04\00:23:21.87 I'll weigh about two pints more. 00:23:21.88\00:23:23.54 But your body doesn't just hold onto all that water. 00:23:24.57\00:23:27.06 No it gets rid of it. 00:23:27.07\00:23:28.04 It gets rid of it, and there's 00:23:28.05\00:23:29.30 some fascinating things that happen 00:23:29.31\00:23:30.69 when you drink more pure water. 00:23:30.84\00:23:33.06 First of all, pure water has no sodium in it. 00:23:33.84\00:23:35.84 So what do you mean pure water? Where would I get that? 00:23:36.39\00:23:38.69 You can get it from a spring, 00:23:39.24\00:23:40.48 especially if it has no sodium in it. 00:23:40.66\00:23:42.45 You can get it from your faucet, 00:23:42.46\00:23:45.18 especially if you use reverse osmosis, 00:23:45.19\00:23:48.30 if you have a water softener, because if you have a 00:23:48.69\00:23:51.18 water softener that's going to be putting salt into the water 00:23:51.19\00:23:54.03 Well salt follows water, or water follows salt, 00:23:54.24\00:23:56.60 and if you don't have that then you lose weight. 00:23:56.61\00:23:59.06 Actually that's part of it, you're exactly right. 00:23:59.75\00:24:01.69 When you drink more water what happens 00:24:01.81\00:24:03.69 is first of all you tank up your system, 00:24:03.70\00:24:05.63 so if you're dehydrated which many Americans are, 00:24:05.64\00:24:08.03 they're walking around not at optimal 00:24:08.15\00:24:10.63 brain functioning because they're dehydrated. 00:24:10.64\00:24:13.63 They may tend to get a little light headed when they stand up, 00:24:14.39\00:24:16.81 a number of problems can occur with lack of water intake. 00:24:17.21\00:24:20.48 Once you get hydrated though, 00:24:20.75\00:24:22.27 the excess water you take in actually is 00:24:22.57\00:24:24.69 processed through the kidneys, and comes out. 00:24:24.70\00:24:27.12 So then that causes you to lose weight? 00:24:27.75\00:24:29.45 Or what is it that causes you to lose weight. 00:24:29.46\00:24:31.33 What it does is, the way the Lord has designed our kidneys, 00:24:31.48\00:24:35.33 is every time we void water, 00:24:35.34\00:24:37.12 we actually lose some sodium with it. 00:24:38.06\00:24:40.09 - Ok. 00:24:40.10\00:24:41.15 And so it actually takes sodium out of the body, 00:24:41.18\00:24:43.72 pulls more water with it. 00:24:44.15\00:24:45.48 So for a person that has edema, swelling of the legs, 00:24:45.69\00:24:48.12 provided they don't have... - Heart disease. 00:24:48.21\00:24:50.12 right heart disease or kidney failure, stuff like that. 00:24:50.24\00:24:53.06 If they don't have those problems, 00:24:53.39\00:24:55.30 just garden variety edema, 00:24:55.31\00:24:56.66 drinking more water can actually decrease 00:24:56.81\00:24:59.54 the problems with fluid build-up because 00:24:59.75\00:25:01.69 it pulls excess water out of the system. 00:25:01.70\00:25:03.57 - Ok. 00:25:03.58\00:25:04.55 So this is one way that water drinking can help 00:25:04.56\00:25:06.72 someone lose some weight if they're retaining fluid. 00:25:06.73\00:25:09.27 Ok, so we know why, another 00:25:10.00\00:25:11.30 reason why-- to help us lose weight. 00:25:11.31\00:25:13.03 When should we be drinking water? 00:25:13.45\00:25:14.78 Well don't jump ahead on too much! 00:25:14.79\00:25:16.84 Because you've got something else about the water? 00:25:17.03\00:25:18.87 Yes, because drinking water, some of the latest research, 00:25:19.00\00:25:21.48 and I've got a study right here Don, 00:25:21.49\00:25:23.09 it's actually showing us that when 00:25:23.48\00:25:25.63 you drink more water, it stimulates 00:25:25.64\00:25:27.78 metabolic receptors in the body 00:25:28.39\00:25:31.09 that actually raises 00:25:31.30\00:25:34.06 body processes, raises metabolism. 00:25:34.51\00:25:36.21 So it thinks you're going to get more, 00:25:36.66\00:25:38.06 but you don't get it, 00:25:38.12\00:25:39.12 you just got the water and it starts burning more off. 00:25:39.13\00:25:41.24 You burn more calories. 00:25:41.39\00:25:42.45 So water drinking is very positive, 00:25:42.46\00:25:44.06 even room temperature water, doesn't have to be cold, 00:25:44.07\00:25:46.42 doesn't have to be warmed up. 00:25:46.43\00:25:47.66 So, it makes your metabolism go up, 00:25:48.00\00:25:50.15 what about a diabetic? 00:25:50.16\00:25:51.45 is that going to be a problem? 00:25:51.46\00:25:53.27 Actually typically not, this would be 00:25:53.39\00:25:55.03 beneficial for the diabetic as well. 00:25:55.04\00:25:56.51 So it tends to ensure that you don't over-eat when 00:25:56.63\00:25:58.75 you're well hydrated, 00:25:58.76\00:26:00.06 when you come to sit at the meal, 00:26:00.07\00:26:01.12 it also helps you trim down some pounds. 00:26:01.13\00:26:02.63 - We got about 40 seconds left. When should we drink this water? 00:26:02.75\00:26:05.78 Water is best drunk between meals, 00:26:06.15\00:26:08.33 not with meals, 00:26:08.34\00:26:09.54 that tends to interfere with the digestive process, 00:26:09.55\00:26:12.66 and especially if you have reflux you'll get into problems. 00:26:13.21\00:26:15.39 Amount of water to drink? 00:26:15.84\00:26:17.03 That was on your mind next wasn't it? 00:26:17.04\00:26:18.57 - Yes - Ok! 00:26:19.09\00:26:20.12 We recommend one ounce 00:26:20.60\00:26:23.45 for every two pounds of weight. 00:26:23.63\00:26:25.36 as a general rule of thumb. 00:26:25.57\00:26:27.12 You weight 200 pounds, drink 100 ounces a day. 00:26:27.13\00:26:29.54 We've been talking with Dr. David DeRose, 00:26:30.21\00:26:31.81 We've had some good news about water, 00:26:32.75\00:26:34.30 it can actually help you lose weight, 00:26:34.31\00:26:35.69 it does a lot of other great things as well. 00:26:36.18\00:26:38.12 We're glad you've joined us. 00:26:38.18\00:26:39.36 If you want more information, go to: 00:26:39.45\00:26:41.15 We're glad you joined us as well Dr. DeRose. 00:26:42.63\00:26:44.33 - Thank you. 00:26:44.34\00:26:45.31 Thanks and we'll see you again next time. 00:26:45.32\00:26:46.51 Modern views of evolution stem all the way 00:26:54.21\00:26:56.60 back to theories developed in the mid 1800s. 00:26:56.61\00:26:59.12 Out of the same time period came ideas that shape 00:27:00.15\00:27:03.21 our educational system today. 00:27:03.42\00:27:05.45 The common school movement for example, 00:27:06.45\00:27:08.33 saw schools more like a factory, 00:27:08.48\00:27:10.39 with students blindly memorizing 00:27:10.45\00:27:12.33 instruction rather than thinking for themselves. 00:27:12.34\00:27:15.09 Their curriculum was rigid and theoretical, 00:27:15.87\00:27:18.27 instead of being flexible and practical, 00:27:18.72\00:27:20.84 It was designed to conform the individual 00:27:21.39\00:27:23.75 into a specific ideological mold, 00:27:23.84\00:27:26.45 that fit the needs of a old industrial era, long since past. 00:27:26.81\00:27:30.27 Just like our view of creation in six literal days, 00:27:32.00\00:27:35.12 we believe the Bible contains an educational blueprint 00:27:35.33\00:27:39.27 radically different from the one we see now. 00:27:39.54\00:27:41.84 Well friends, that's it for today. 00:27:55.06\00:27:56.81 Thank you for joining us. 00:27:57.36\00:27:58.36 Pick up the phone and give us a call at: 00:27:58.48\00:28:00.45 God Bless you. 00:28:04.39\00:28:05.54
