Can you elaborate? 00:11:29.00\00:11:33.24 Well yes, I guess not being energetic, you know one of 00:11:34.03\00:11:36.84 the questions we ask the 00:11:36.85\00:11:38.24 people on the forms they fill out 00:11:38.25\00:11:40.00 exercise, 00:11:40.54\00:11:41.75 do you exercise? Were you exercising before you came here? 00:11:42.30\00:11:45.15 You know what type, how much and so on. 00:11:45.60\00:11:49.21 And so I noticed on my notes on her I wrote down ADL, 00:11:49.48\00:11:53.57 that stands for Activities of Daily Living, 00:11:54.15\00:11:56.57 which is a nice way of saying, Not exercising. 00:11:56.58\00:11:59.21 And so she was not exercising. 00:11:59.60\00:12:01.81 So she had no exercise in her life? 00:12:01.84\00:12:04.42 Yes, she was not exercising in the last. . . you know. . . 00:12:04.45\00:12:06.51 well who knows how long before she got here. 00:12:06.66\00:12:08.57 And that could be one of the 00:12:08.66\00:12:10.18 reasons why she ended up coming here 00:12:10.19\00:12:12.00 with. . . 00:12:12.21\00:12:13.36 correct me if I'm wrong, high blood pressure, 00:12:13.37\00:12:15.84 diabetes, - Right. 00:12:16.03\00:12:17.33 obesity, - Right. 00:12:17.66\00:12:19.12 depression, - Right. 00:12:19.42\00:12:20.63 and some disease other than that? 00:12:21.69\00:12:23.78 Oh yes, she had something called ulcerative colitis. 00:12:23.84\00:12:26.15 And what is that? 00:12:26.30\00:12:27.33 Well this is kind of an inflammation or 00:12:27.48\00:12:29.60 irritation of the bowel, the gastro-intestinal tract 00:12:29.61\00:12:32.42 specially the colon, the large intestine. 00:12:32.54\00:12:34.33 And people are often times on medicine for this 00:12:35.03\00:12:40.30 and they get cramps, 00:12:40.33\00:12:41.60 and diarrea and things like this. 00:12:41.61\00:12:43.66 the kind of things that you don't want to have. 00:12:43.81\00:12:46.21 They're on this for many many years, 00:12:46.69\00:12:48.87 and we've been able 00:12:48.88\00:12:50.09 to help patients with this problem quite successfully. 00:12:50.36\00:12:52.69 Now have we helped her with this problem? 00:12:52.84\00:12:54.78 When she came here she was fairly well 00:12:54.87\00:12:56.87 controlled with the medication that she was using, 00:12:56.88\00:12:59.45 and she and I talked about this and when she goes home 00:13:00.03\00:13:02.75 she's going to see now with the 00:13:03.21\00:13:04.72 changes in her lifestyle and her diet 00:13:04.73\00:13:06.57 if maybe she can decrease the amount of 00:13:07.06\00:13:09.27 medication that she's on, and get off of it. 00:13:09.28\00:13:11.69 In our experience this is usually what happens. 00:13:12.06\00:13:14.00 Now she'll do that with her primary care physician 00:13:14.21\00:13:17.81 back at home, she won't converse with you about it? 00:13:18.36\00:13:21.09 Well, you know she can, because when 00:13:21.18\00:13:23.54 the patients that I care for go home 00:13:23.55\00:13:25.87 they have my personal home telephone number, 00:13:26.36\00:13:29.72 as well as having my email so they have access to me, 00:13:30.09\00:13:33.54 that's my commitment to them, 00:13:33.78\00:13:35.45 I'm willing to help you, if you need me call me. 00:13:35.46\00:13:38.12 And I don't say you do have to call before six o-clock 00:13:38.39\00:13:43.30 in the evening, you can call me anytime in the day or night. 00:13:43.66\00:13:46.24 Well I know you two have been on the phone until midnight, 00:13:46.27\00:13:48.81 so I know that's the truth. 00:13:49.21\00:13:50.87 So let's talk about the good news now, 00:13:51.21\00:13:53.21 is that it as far as all the 00:13:53.48\00:13:54.84 problems that she had when she got here? 00:13:54.85\00:13:56.75 Right, and one of the ways we evaluate their problems 00:13:56.84\00:14:00.63 is seeing how long she can do her treadmill time, 00:14:01.45\00:14:05.12 so she did her treadmill 00:14:05.13\00:14:06.78 - How long did she do her first trip? 00:14:07.03\00:14:08.36 I think her first treadmill was about three minutes, 00:14:08.39\00:14:10.42 and then the one that she did. . . 00:14:10.43\00:14:11.51 her second treadmill, she increased her 00:14:12.18\00:14:14.27 time from three minutes to five minutes. 00:14:14.28\00:14:16.36 And I also noticed as I was reviewing her record, 00:14:16.69\00:14:20.57 that her heart rate. . . 00:14:20.81\00:14:22.15 was a lower heart rate as she went along this time, 00:14:22.60\00:14:26.42 so her fitness level has 00:14:26.57\00:14:28.00 increased and she is walking more. 00:14:28.01\00:14:29.69 And that's just in two weeks! 00:14:29.84\00:14:31.54 That's in two weeks. - That's incredible. 00:14:31.55\00:14:33.63 You know the other thing though, diabetes with. . . 00:14:33.78\00:14:36.18 diabetes that she has, and so many 00:14:36.63\00:14:38.69 people in the United States have, 00:14:38.70\00:14:40.66 what about 24 million people in the US have diabetes, 00:14:41.45\00:14:44.42 about 54 million people have what we call pre-diabetes, 00:14:44.87\00:14:47.75 unless they make some changes, 00:14:48.24\00:14:49.57 they are at much higher risk for developing diabetes. 00:14:49.58\00:14:51.87 What about. . . and I hear those numbers too, the 24 and the 50, 00:14:52.03\00:14:56.30 what about the 150-180 million that are overweight 00:14:56.39\00:15:00.12 are they on the verge of being diabetic? 00:15:00.48\00:15:03.66 Well. . . 00:15:04.21\00:15:05.36 Obesity or being overweight is a very 00:15:06.12\00:15:08.42 definite risk factor for getting diabetes, 00:15:08.43\00:15:11.03 and so this is very very true, 00:15:11.42\00:15:13.81 we look at the adult 00:15:13.82\00:15:14.84 Americans here in the United States, 00:15:14.85\00:15:16.30 two thirds of adult Americans are overweight, 00:15:16.75\00:15:19.45 and one third are considered obese, 00:15:19.46\00:15:21.48 I don't like to call people overweight, I say you know, 00:15:21.81\00:15:24.78 You're just too short, 00:15:25.12\00:15:26.30 you need to grow a little bit taller. 00:15:26.31\00:15:27.78 But unfortunately by the time I meet them their usually. . . 00:15:28.12\00:15:31.63 well their way past 20, they're 40s and 50s, 00:15:32.18\00:15:35.27 I can't help them grow taller, 00:15:35.57\00:15:37.15 so we usually work with helping them lose weight. 00:15:37.16\00:15:39.51 We've been able to do that 00:15:40.06\00:15:41.21 very successfully here at Weimar, 00:15:41.22\00:15:42.60 we've had people come in and lose 00:15:42.61\00:15:44.06 50 pounds, 75 pounds, 100, 150, 00:15:44.57\00:15:47.69 and they keep it off. 00:15:48.06\00:15:49.27 Now we have a guy on the program now, 00:15:49.28\00:15:51.42 who we did interview a couple of weeks ago, 00:15:51.87\00:15:55.12 that's lost 47 pounds in two weeks. 00:15:55.48\00:15:58.42 That's right, that's right. 00:15:58.54\00:15:59.84 Well we're going to get back to him. . . 00:16:00.03\00:16:02.30 but as far as Theresa now 00:16:02.31\00:16:03.66 she seems more alive and excited, 00:16:04.15\00:16:07.84 and how is her diabetes? Is that in check? 00:16:08.42\00:16:11.75 Her diabetes is under better control. . . 00:16:11.81\00:16:14.42 With medication. 00:16:14.54\00:16:15.78 With medication, but she's using less medicine 00:16:15.79\00:16:17.81 and she's under better control, and the other things is 00:16:18.36\00:16:20.60 I think her mood is improved. 00:16:21.03\00:16:23.27 Oh tremendously. 00:16:23.36\00:16:24.42 That's one of the things we find with exercise. 00:16:24.43\00:16:27.66 Exercise not only helps you to control your diabetes, 00:16:28.15\00:16:30.75 but exercise is a natural 00:16:31.30\00:16:34.27 tranquilizer, and a anti-depressant, 00:16:35.00\00:16:37.36 it does both for you. 00:16:37.37\00:16:38.69 So those little endorphins 00:16:39.12\00:16:40.66 release through the body, and we. . . 00:16:40.67\00:16:42.81 it's kind of like they call the runners high so to speak. 00:16:43.27\00:16:46.42 Yes it helps you to feel better, it really does. 00:16:46.51\00:16:48.15 - Feels better. 00:16:48.18\00:16:49.30 You know you think more clearly you function better 00:16:49.42\00:16:52.27 everything goes along a lot better. 00:16:52.48\00:16:54.69 So she's doing better in exercise, 00:16:55.24\00:16:57.36 diabetes is doing better, less medication, 00:16:57.81\00:17:00.66 she's done better on the treadmill. 00:17:01.03\00:17:03.03 What other things? She's lost a little weight. 00:17:03.27\00:17:05.45 She's lost some weight, and I think she's also learning 00:17:05.57\00:17:08.84 the importance of all these 00:17:09.39\00:17:11.12 things in managing her lifestyle. 00:17:11.13\00:17:13.12 So. . . for weight loss, 00:17:13.60\00:17:16.21 one of the keys of course is 00:17:17.45\00:17:19.51 people who eat a plant based diet, 00:17:20.06\00:17:21.84 it's easier for them to lose weight, 00:17:21.85\00:17:23.69 Actually people who eat a plant based diet, 00:17:24.00\00:17:26.45 weigh less than people who eat the standard American diet. 00:17:26.75\00:17:29.66 You know what the standard American diet is? 00:17:31.87\00:17:34.30 SAD right? - SAD right. 00:17:34.48\00:17:36.63 Sad! High in calories 00:17:36.84\00:17:39.69 high in refined carbohydrates, 00:17:40.15\00:17:41.75 high in fat, and high in animal protein. 00:17:42.15\00:17:45.00 And with all of those things together with the non-exercising 00:17:45.15\00:17:48.75 sedentary diet, 00:17:49.15\00:17:51.12 people are. . . 00:17:52.72\00:17:53.72 a illness waiting to happen, 00:17:54.42\00:17:55.81 like diabetes, and heart disease, 00:17:56.12\00:17:57.78 and high blood pressure, strokes and all of these things. 00:17:57.79\00:18:00.69 And the other thing is with the number 00:18:00.84\00:18:02.75 of people in America who are overweight, 00:18:02.76\00:18:04.66 that also increases their risk for cancer as well, 00:18:04.87\00:18:07.66 so one of the keys to good 00:18:08.24\00:18:09.81 health is-- keeping your weight down. 00:18:09.82\00:18:12.18 And the best way is don't gain it in the first place, 00:18:13.78\00:18:17.24 but if you have gained it, 00:18:17.48\00:18:19.00 we find that going to the 00:18:19.24\00:18:21.06 plant based diet is really helpful, 00:18:21.07\00:18:23.42 and walking three miles a day, or four miles a day 00:18:23.81\00:18:28.09 six times a week is great. 00:18:28.42\00:18:30.09 And another important point in weight management is 00:18:30.36\00:18:33.03 eliminating the evening meal, in other words, 00:18:33.63\00:18:36.03 don't eat anything after about two or three in the afternoon. 00:18:36.04\00:18:38.78 - Yes. 00:18:38.79\00:18:39.81 It makes it a lot easier for the people to 00:18:39.82\00:18:41.84 lose the weight, and it makes it a lot 00:18:42.15\00:18:44.39 easier for the people to keep the weight off. 00:18:44.40\00:18:47.03 Now I know there are a lot of 00:18:47.66\00:18:49.27 viewers out there that are saying, 00:18:49.28\00:18:51.09 Well I can't get away for 18 days, 00:18:51.15\00:18:53.48 and the NEWSTART program is just 00:18:53.49\00:18:55.60 too much for me to absorb right now, 00:18:56.09\00:18:58.84 we do have a reversing diabetes and obesity program 00:18:59.15\00:19:03.57 coming up here at Weimar, 00:19:04.12\00:19:05.72 May the 31st, 2010 00:19:06.27\00:19:09.60 and that will go through June 1, 2, and 3. 00:19:09.87\00:19:13.21 So for those of you who would like to attend 00:19:13.66\00:19:16.00 a shorter program, please feel free to give us a call. 00:19:16.24\00:19:19.60 As far as Theresa goes, now when she goes home, 00:19:20.33\00:19:23.36 she can call you most anytime for some direction, 00:19:25.24\00:19:28.48 but she's going to be talking to her doctor. 00:19:29.03\00:19:31.54 Yes, she will return to the care of her primary doctor, 00:19:31.78\00:19:33.84 Do they call. . . do these doctors 00:19:34.06\00:19:35.78 call you for consultation, or. . . 00:19:35.79\00:19:37.57 Very rarely, 00:19:39.24\00:19:41.18 but if they did, if they want to I'd be happy to talk 00:19:41.63\00:19:44.63 to them and tell them what their patient has been through 00:19:44.64\00:19:47.81 and what our approach is. 00:19:48.42\00:19:50.09 Would that be a benefit to our guests if their doctors called? 00:19:50.54\00:19:54.33 It really depends on the doctor and his interest, 00:19:56.60\00:19:59.03 many of the doctors-- some of the doctors are very 00:19:59.30\00:20:01.27 interested in what's happened 00:20:01.28\00:20:02.39 to the patient, they want to know 00:20:02.40\00:20:03.63 what was accomplished and they're interested. 00:20:04.27\00:20:07.03 We have a cardiologist in our area, here, 00:20:07.30\00:20:10.42 in the Sacramento area, who refers 00:20:10.84\00:20:13.15 because he knows that 00:20:13.60\00:20:15.60 we can help them, and he's been very pleased with 00:20:16.09\00:20:18.84 the way the patients do when they return to his care, 00:20:19.57\00:20:21.87 he's happy with the way the patients are doing, 00:20:22.54\00:20:24.87 he's very interested in that. 00:20:24.88\00:20:26.36 And I've talked with him 00:20:26.48\00:20:27.66 personally about several patients. 00:20:27.67\00:20:29.33 And we also have doctors who come in attendance 00:20:29.69\00:20:32.42 to observe to learn this lifestyle, 00:20:32.72\00:20:35.12 I've witnessed that myself. - Right. 00:20:35.57\00:20:37.57 Is that pretty common? 00:20:37.87\00:20:39.72 It's not in every program, 00:20:40.27\00:20:42.33 but yes we do have professionals come in here 00:20:42.34\00:20:45.72 and they want to see what we're doing 00:20:46.21\00:20:47.60 and how we do it, and what the results are. 00:20:47.61\00:20:49.27 And invariably when they see what happens to the guests, 00:20:49.60\00:20:52.27 they're very pleased and excited, 00:20:52.72\00:20:54.03 and they say that's 00:20:54.04\00:20:55.12 something that maybe I 00:20:55.13\00:20:56.12 should become more involved with. 00:20:56.13\00:20:57.51 Dr. Ing we're running out of time, 00:20:58.00\00:20:59.69 thanks for being here, folks don't go away, 00:20:59.84\00:21:02.51 we'll be right back. 00:21:02.52\00:21:03.69 Hi and welcome to NEWSTART NOW. My name is Cathy, 00:21:18.54\00:21:21.18 and today we have with us Dr. Eddie Ramirez. 00:21:21.36\00:21:23.78 Doctor thank you for joining us. 00:21:24.12\00:21:25.54 Thank you for inviting me to the house of the NEWSTART. 00:21:25.75\00:21:28.27 Oh well good, I'm glad that you're here, 00:21:28.51\00:21:29.84 what are you going 00:21:29.85\00:21:30.84 to share with us today about dress? 00:21:30.85\00:21:32.09 This sounds interesting. 00:21:32.10\00:21:33.18 That's right, we're going to talk a 00:21:33.19\00:21:35.33 little bit about the physiology of dress. 00:21:35.34\00:21:37.72 You know if you go to any supermarket today, 00:21:38.51\00:21:41.36 you're going to see a lot of 00:21:41.81\00:21:43.81 magazines close to the checkout line, 00:21:43.82\00:21:46.42 and their all the time talking about how to be sexy, 00:21:46.78\00:21:50.30 and how to do this and do that. 00:21:50.51\00:21:52.45 But I'm sure that they're not 00:21:53.00\00:21:55.24 aware of the physiology of dress. 00:21:55.25\00:21:57.69 - I'm sure they're not. 00:21:58.00\00:21:59.36 The way that our body works, is that we 00:21:59.81\00:22:02.69 have a very complex network of blood vessels. 00:22:02.70\00:22:06.00 The body needs to have an optimum temperature, 00:22:07.54\00:22:11.27 in order for the functions of the 00:22:11.45\00:22:14.18 body to be on the optimum level. 00:22:14.19\00:22:16.66 There are certain things, very tiny 00:22:17.15\00:22:19.78 little particles in our bodies called enzymes 00:22:19.79\00:22:23.24 and the enzymes are those substances that help us 00:22:24.81\00:22:28.51 to do chemical reactions in our body in an efficient way. 00:22:29.06\00:22:33.27 Now those enzymes are related to the temperature. 00:22:33.72\00:22:39.27 When the enzyme doesn't have the right temperature, 00:22:39.69\00:22:43.27 then it cannot do it's function in the proper way, 00:22:43.57\00:22:46.36 things go slower if it's too high, 00:22:46.63\00:22:49.18 things go slow if it's too low. 00:22:49.19\00:22:51.36 That's why the body constantly is working 00:22:51.69\00:22:54.72 to keep our body temperature at the optimum level. 00:22:55.06\00:22:59.24 Now unfortunately we live in a world 00:23:00.06\00:23:03.63 that has a lot of variations in the temperatures, 00:23:04.00\00:23:07.66 so our Creator designed a special system in our body 00:23:08.21\00:23:13.45 to try to compensate that. 00:23:13.81\00:23:16.30 There's a complex network of blood 00:23:17.54\00:23:20.75 vessels in the surface of our skin, 00:23:20.76\00:23:24.06 and those blood vessels open and close, 00:23:24.54\00:23:27.72 according to the temperature of the outside. 00:23:28.09\00:23:31.33 In that way lets say it's getting too hot, 00:23:32.12\00:23:36.60 then the blood vessels close, 00:23:37.15\00:23:39.54 that means that less blood is running through there, 00:23:40.24\00:23:43.18 less heat is running through there, 00:23:43.48\00:23:45.63 and that heat concentrates in the inside. 00:23:45.64\00:23:48.15 The opposite happens when it's too cold, 00:23:48.87\00:23:51.81 that's right, then those blood vessels open 00:23:52.21\00:23:54.63 and then that blood can come out and warm up the skin. 00:23:54.84\00:23:59.63 Now especially in certain 00:24:00.18\00:24:02.81 areas of the world where it's cold, 00:24:02.82\00:24:06.45 then in those places, if you are not dressed properly, 00:24:07.00\00:24:13.24 you get yourself in trouble. 00:24:13.66\00:24:15.36 The body can compensate up to a certain point, 00:24:16.06\00:24:19.72 and if you are not helping 00:24:20.51\00:24:22.51 your body with the proper clothing, 00:24:22.78\00:24:26.60 then your body is doing extra 00:24:27.15\00:24:29.60 efforts to try to warm up things. 00:24:29.61\00:24:32.39 We have noticed that things like PMS 00:24:33.15\00:24:36.36 you can aggravate the PMS if you 00:24:36.75\00:24:39.84 for example don't cover up your legs. 00:24:39.85\00:24:43.36 Also there's reflex action, for example 00:24:44.21\00:24:49.12 the soles of your foot are related 00:24:49.48\00:24:52.87 to your sinuses, your brain, your lungs, and your bladder. 00:24:53.42\00:25:00.75 That's why if you walk barefooted, 00:25:01.21\00:25:04.03 what happens to your nose? 00:25:04.27\00:25:05.36 - It starts to run. 00:25:05.37\00:25:06.69 Because of that reflex action that happens there. . . 00:25:06.70\00:25:10.33 Now is that totally barefooted? 00:25:10.45\00:25:12.27 What about flip flops? A lot of people wear flip flops. 00:25:12.28\00:25:15.33 If the feet are cold, 00:25:15.34\00:25:18.27 then you're going to have that reflex action. 00:25:18.45\00:25:22.39 So as a general rule, 00:25:22.66\00:25:24.54 limbs should be thoroughly covered, that's right. 00:25:25.57\00:25:29.66 Of course using logic, if it's too warm 00:25:29.84\00:25:32.69 of course you need to remove the layers. 00:25:33.00\00:25:36.03 So we're going to use common sense, 00:25:36.30\00:25:38.42 and we're going to help our body work in an optimum level, 00:25:38.54\00:25:42.75 and again we're not talking here about morality, 00:25:42.84\00:25:44.84 that's another topic subject. 00:25:44.85\00:25:46.09 We're talking here about our physiology, 00:25:46.27\00:25:48.45 you know this is the way that our body works. 00:25:48.46\00:25:50.81 So, I'm going to challenge our viewers to try it out, 00:25:51.30\00:25:55.45 make sure that they are thoroughly covered and 00:25:56.00\00:25:58.36 they'll see the big 00:25:58.37\00:25:59.36 difference it makes in their health. 00:25:59.37\00:26:01.21 Well that's neat, so we need to make sure 00:26:01.45\00:26:03.27 we keep our slippers on around the house, 00:26:03.28\00:26:05.03 and be careful when we're outside walking around. 00:26:05.04\00:26:07.09 Thank you so much for joining us, 00:26:07.30\00:26:08.84 for those of you who would like more 00:26:09.15\00:26:10.87 information please visit our website at: 00:26:10.88\00:26:12.81 and we'll have some information for you there. 00:26:14.21\00:26:15.78 Thank you and God bless. 00:26:15.79\00:26:17.09 Modern views of evolution stem all the way 00:26:25.00\00:26:27.39 back to theories developed in the mid 1800s. 00:26:27.40\00:26:29.81 Out of the same time period came ideas that shape 00:26:30.84\00:26:34.00 our educational system today. 00:26:34.21\00:26:36.24 The common school movement for example, 00:26:37.24\00:26:39.12 saw schools more like a factory, 00:26:39.27\00:26:41.18 with students blindly memorizing 00:26:41.24\00:26:43.12 instruction rather than thinking for themselves. 00:26:43.13\00:26:45.78 Their curriculum was rigid and theoretical, 00:26:46.66\00:26:49.06 instead of being flexible and practical, 00:26:49.51\00:26:51.63 It was designed to conform the individual 00:26:52.18\00:26:54.54 into a specific ideological mold, 00:26:54.63\00:26:57.24 that fit the needs of a old industrial era, long since past. 00:26:57.60\00:27:01.06 Just like our view of creation in six literal days, 00:27:02.69\00:27:05.81 we believe the Bible contains an educational blueprint 00:27:06.12\00:27:10.06 radically different from the one we see now. 00:27:10.33\00:27:12.63 Well friends that's it for today, 00:27:25.69\00:27:27.48 thank you for joining us. 00:27:27.49\00:27:28.75 Perhaps you have a friend though, 00:27:29.30\00:27:31.48 or family member, 00:27:31.49\00:27:32.57 that's sick with diabetes, or obesity, or alcoholism, 00:27:32.78\00:27:37.18 or various types of cancer. 00:27:37.45\00:27:38.87 You could pick up that phone and give us a call at: 00:27:39.33\00:27:41.78 You know Weimar's NEWSTART program has 00:27:45.51\00:27:47.75 helps thousands of people over the years, 00:27:47.76\00:27:50.21 and we can help your friend, or your family member as well. 00:27:50.60\00:27:54.06 So pick up the phone right now, pick up that phone, 00:27:54.42\00:27:57.03 give us a call at: 00:27:57.33\00:27:58.54 In the meantime, God bless you immensely. 00:28:03.09\00:28:06.03
