Hi folks, and welcome to another edition of NEWSTART Now. 00:00:24.39\00:00:27.69 I'm so happy to be with you today, 00:00:28.18\00:00:30.42 because we have a really great story. 00:00:30.43\00:00:32.75 We have a gentleman in the studio with us right now. 00:00:33.36\00:00:36.36 Mr. Dake, how are you? 00:00:36.81\00:00:38.24 Fine, thank you. 00:00:38.25\00:00:39.24 It's Myrl, right? 00:00:39.39\00:00:40.42 That's right. Okay. 00:00:40.51\00:00:41.81 Myrl comes to us with 00:00:42.12\00:00:44.27 a problem that he's had for so many years. 00:00:44.39\00:00:47.87 We're going to be talking about this condition, 00:00:48.36\00:00:51.66 a cardiovascular condition 00:00:51.81\00:00:53.66 where he was advised some... 00:00:54.00\00:00:56.39 How many years ago does that go back, 00:00:56.48\00:00:58.18 when they suggested that you have open heart surgery? 00:00:58.27\00:01:00.84 1991. 00:01:01.18\00:01:02.57 1991. 00:01:02.63\00:01:04.57 So in 1991 the doctor says to you, 00:01:04.66\00:01:07.33 "Myrl, I've got some good news and some bad news. 00:01:07.42\00:01:09.87 I think we can save your life, 00:01:10.27\00:01:11.63 but you're going to have to go under the knife." 00:01:11.75\00:01:13.21 Is that right? That's right. 00:01:13.22\00:01:15.33 They did an angiogram on me and they said that 00:01:15.69\00:01:20.06 I had three arteries that were severely occluded, 00:01:20.33\00:01:23.81 and that I was literally a walking time bomb. 00:01:24.36\00:01:27.45 This was a Friday, and they said, "You are so bad 00:01:27.81\00:01:32.06 that we're not going to let you go home. 00:01:32.45\00:01:35.03 We're going to do surgery at 7:30 tomorrow morning. 00:01:35.63\00:01:39.00 We normally don't do Saturday surgeries, 00:01:39.09\00:01:41.03 but you are such a walking time bomb 00:01:41.12\00:01:43.57 that we're going to do triple bypass on you tomorrow morning." 00:01:43.75\00:01:47.18 Now, how much, how severely blocked were you? 00:01:47.66\00:01:52.33 What percentage? Did they give you a number? 00:01:52.48\00:01:54.75 They did. 00:01:54.76\00:01:56.06 One of the main left descending 00:01:56.27\00:01:59.33 arteries was 99 percent blocked, 00:01:59.54\00:02:02.48 one was 85 percent, and one was 75 percent. 00:02:02.81\00:02:06.51 Wow. Okay. 00:02:06.69\00:02:08.54 And what did you do? What did you say to the doctors? 00:02:08.60\00:02:11.69 Well, while I was lying on a gurney all day, 00:02:12.33\00:02:16.84 because I couldn't move until the 00:02:17.33\00:02:21.15 vein that they had gone into had healed over, 00:02:21.39\00:02:24.36 they all sidled up to my gurney and 00:02:24.37\00:02:27.51 told me all these terrible things, 00:02:27.52\00:02:29.87 and that they were going to do this. 00:02:29.88\00:02:32.39 Then they put me into a hospital room 00:02:32.75\00:02:35.87 preparatory for what sleep I could get 00:02:36.21\00:02:39.54 and then be ready for the next morning. 00:02:39.63\00:02:41.24 When everybody left, I got up and put on my clothes 00:02:41.81\00:02:44.54 and walked out of the hospital, 00:02:44.55\00:02:46.51 to the great consternation of all parties concerned. 00:02:46.72\00:02:49.87 But I told them, "Ultimately, I am responsible for me, 00:02:50.72\00:02:55.42 and I may or I may not do this. 00:02:55.75\00:02:58.51 But I am first going to do some serious research 00:02:58.81\00:03:02.78 to find out whether this is a patch only 00:03:03.24\00:03:07.69 or whether it really is a cure for the problem." 00:03:08.21\00:03:10.81 And I quickly found out that it really is a patch, 00:03:11.63\00:03:15.72 because I had a friend particularly that 00:03:16.00\00:03:19.87 has had this done three times. 00:03:20.24\00:03:22.27 And they clogged up again 00:03:22.87\00:03:24.36 because he didn't change his lifestyle. 00:03:24.37\00:03:26.51 So what I discovered was that a vegetarian lifestyle 00:03:27.33\00:03:31.87 was the only way to go 00:03:33.03\00:03:35.54 to reverse existing blockage of heart arteries. 00:03:35.69\00:03:38.24 Now you discovered this, I presume, 00:03:38.54\00:03:41.63 by investigating perhaps online or through books, 00:03:41.72\00:03:45.45 that a lifestyle change would clear out your arteries, right? 00:03:45.66\00:03:49.75 Yes. 00:03:50.00\00:03:51.00 And did you begin a lifestyle change immediately thereafter? 00:03:51.12\00:03:54.63 Yes, I did. 00:03:54.72\00:03:55.78 And have you been loyal to this change all these years? 00:03:55.87\00:04:00.30 No, I have not. Okay. 00:04:00.33\00:04:01.78 Tell us about that. 00:04:02.66\00:04:04.24 I stayed with it as best I could, 00:04:04.33\00:04:07.24 and I did reverse the blockage 00:04:07.45\00:04:10.81 to the point where I could carry on a normal life. 00:04:10.84\00:04:13.39 Now, how long did that take, Myrl? 00:04:14.06\00:04:17.30 A couple years. I worked on it a couple years. 00:04:17.51\00:04:20.75 I was not vegan, but I was lacto-ovo vegetarian. 00:04:21.09\00:04:25.63 There was still dairy products and there was still cheese 00:04:25.78\00:04:29.24 and things of that nature, and eggs. 00:04:29.33\00:04:34.54 Actually, when I came to the NEWSTART program at Weimar 00:04:35.00\00:04:38.39 and they did the blood test on me, 00:04:38.72\00:04:40.60 I was pretty sure that they would say that 00:04:40.78\00:04:43.21 my blood came out 50 percent pizza, 00:04:43.33\00:04:45.75 çlaughterÑ 00:04:45.87\00:04:48.00 because I love pizza. 00:04:48.18\00:04:49.63 I understand. 00:04:49.72\00:04:50.84 And pizza is always so loaded with cheese. 00:04:51.15\00:04:53.75 Well, let me stop you just for a moment now. 00:04:55.36\00:04:57.63 If you knew then... 00:04:57.78\00:04:59.84 We're going back to when you started finding out 00:05:00.06\00:05:03.66 that you could clear your arteries. 00:05:03.84\00:05:05.60 If you knew then what you know now, 00:05:05.66\00:05:07.81 would you have become totally vegan and...? 00:05:08.09\00:05:11.21 Tell me about that. 00:05:12.66\00:05:14.15 I absolutely would. 00:05:14.16\00:05:15.60 Alright, so you've discovered now... 00:05:15.66\00:05:17.78 Sounds like you're stair-stepping a little bit. 00:05:18.06\00:05:21.42 You went into being a vegetarian, 00:05:21.51\00:05:23.72 and now you're becoming vegan. 00:05:23.87\00:05:27.09 And with the understanding that with a vegan lifestyle, 00:05:27.33\00:05:31.21 staying with this... 00:05:31.48\00:05:33.54 these types of foods that we eat as a vegan, 00:05:33.75\00:05:37.81 that your arteries can completely clear themselves out. 00:05:38.21\00:05:42.06 Well, the amazing thing that I've learned 00:05:42.48\00:05:44.57 just in the 18 days that I've been here 00:05:44.69\00:05:47.60 is that my arteries have cleaned out more in 18 days 00:05:48.00\00:05:53.48 than they have in 18 years. 00:05:53.54\00:05:55.03 How do you know that? 00:05:55.15\00:05:56.27 Well, because they put me on a stress test 00:05:56.63\00:06:00.87 when I got here, 00:06:01.21\00:06:03.09 and they put me on a stress test again 00:06:03.54\00:06:05.75 at the end of this period, 00:06:05.84\00:06:08.06 and my tolerance for strenuous activity 00:06:08.42\00:06:13.69 has gone up by some 33 percent 00:06:13.78\00:06:16.48 just in that period of time. 00:06:16.63\00:06:18.72 And that's just in 17 days? 00:06:19.09\00:06:20.75 Yes! Yes, I'm so excited about it 00:06:21.09\00:06:23.69 I can't stand myself. 00:06:23.70\00:06:25.36 It kind of gives you a new lease on life, doesn't it? 00:06:26.24\00:06:29.27 Absolutely, and I want to kick myself 00:06:29.30\00:06:31.27 in the pants for not knowing 00:06:31.28\00:06:32.66 more about this and doing it then, 18 years ago. 00:06:33.03\00:06:37.75 But the combination of the 00:06:38.48\00:06:40.84 exercise program they have at Weimar, 00:06:40.85\00:06:44.18 the wonderful spiritual component 00:06:44.27\00:06:47.24 that all of the workers here have added to it, 00:06:47.54\00:06:51.12 together with much more walking 00:06:51.33\00:06:56.15 than I ever did before, 00:06:56.27\00:06:58.48 has, together with the vegan diet, 00:06:58.66\00:07:02.30 just all conspired to reverse lots of problems. 00:07:02.60\00:07:05.78 Amen. 00:07:05.79\00:07:06.78 I also lost my wife to terminal cancer last February. 00:07:06.79\00:07:12.36 And in my grieving and frustrations and so on, 00:07:12.81\00:07:16.36 I took it out on food, so I had gained 25 pounds 00:07:16.42\00:07:19.39 just since this last February. 00:07:19.54\00:07:21.51 So the Pizza Hut has been a familiar friend of yours, huh? 00:07:21.63\00:07:24.45 Well, as a widower living alone at home, 00:07:24.54\00:07:29.27 pizza is a very convenient way to feed your face. 00:07:29.78\00:07:32.84 And I did that all too often because I love it anyway. 00:07:33.06\00:07:37.42 But I have learned that I have to change my diet to vegan. 00:07:37.78\00:07:41.51 I did another thing. 00:07:41.75\00:07:43.87 I used to salt everything even before I tasted it, 00:07:44.15\00:07:47.15 because I knew that no one ever salted anything sufficient 00:07:47.18\00:07:52.15 to my taste. 00:07:52.60\00:07:54.87 Now that I've been here, 00:07:55.24\00:07:56.75 they don't add salt to anything, 00:07:56.81\00:07:58.45 and I discovered by the second day, 00:07:58.57\00:08:00.18 who needs salt? 00:08:00.30\00:08:01.30 Everything tastes wonderful here, 00:08:01.48\00:08:03.69 and they don't salt it. 00:08:03.78\00:08:06.09 So to tell you the truth, 00:08:06.42\00:08:08.24 I knew I was coming here to get problems solved, 00:08:08.57\00:08:12.00 but I had no idea I was coming to Shangri-La. 00:08:12.15\00:08:14.78 So this is an 18-year problem 00:08:16.00\00:08:19.09 that in 16, 17 days... 00:08:19.12\00:08:22.06 I understand when you first arrived you had angina, 00:08:22.27\00:08:25.60 or angina, as some people say. 00:08:25.69\00:08:27.66 Is that the case? 00:08:27.75\00:08:29.42 Yes. I went around... 00:08:29.75\00:08:31.45 We have a loop trail 00:08:31.51\00:08:33.87 that we go around, 00:08:34.30\00:08:35.33 and it has some ups and downs and some hills and so on. 00:08:35.51\00:08:38.30 And chugging back up the hill, 00:08:38.84\00:08:41.06 just doing a half mile, I ended up bringing on angina 00:08:41.15\00:08:44.24 because of the extra 25 pounds that I'd put on, 00:08:44.60\00:08:48.03 plus too much pizza and a few other things 00:08:48.21\00:08:50.15 that I was doing wrong. 00:08:50.16\00:08:52.24 Now I can walk several miles nonstop without... 00:08:53.00\00:08:58.18 With no pain? 00:08:58.21\00:08:59.36 With no chest pain at all. 00:08:59.48\00:09:01.36 What about medication? Are you taking medication? 00:09:01.51\00:09:03.63 I take a very minor medication 00:09:03.75\00:09:06.36 that I've been taking for 18 years. 00:09:06.45\00:09:09.21 But it started out I had to take it three times a day, 00:09:09.63\00:09:12.78 and now I'm down to once a day. 00:09:12.84\00:09:14.87 And I'm looking forward near-term 00:09:15.09\00:09:16.66 to when I don't have to take it at all. 00:09:16.67\00:09:18.54 Well I can relate, because a similar thing happened to me. 00:09:19.66\00:09:24.00 The difference was, I went under the knife and did that. 00:09:24.24\00:09:27.36 Five-way bypass, 00:09:27.60\00:09:29.12 which I wish I hadn't, but I did, 00:09:29.51\00:09:31.72 and that's water under the bridge. 00:09:31.78\00:09:33.42 But now we've chosen our lifestyles, 00:09:33.54\00:09:36.12 being vegans, fellow vegans, 00:09:36.30\00:09:39.09 to live a long and healthy life. 00:09:39.36\00:09:42.24 As Doctor Ing told me, and Doctor Lukens as well, 00:09:42.39\00:09:45.30 this may add another 20 years to your life. 00:09:45.51\00:09:49.00 And you look healthy. 00:09:49.24\00:09:51.60 I know you're eager and excited about what's going on now. 00:09:51.66\00:09:55.33 I assure you you're going to continue 00:09:55.45\00:09:58.21 to lose weight as I did, 00:09:58.22\00:09:59.87 and welcome to the club. 00:10:00.30\00:10:02.03 Welcome to a new start. Excuse me. 00:11:47.49\00:11:49.15 "...and do an interview, because 00:11:49.54\00:11:51.15 he's got a real exciting story, 00:11:51.27\00:11:53.54 one that needs to be heard." 00:11:53.55\00:11:55.36 Let's take it from there, if you would, 00:11:55.45\00:11:58.33 and tell us about what has happened in the last 18 years. 00:11:58.39\00:12:02.57 Okay, now this is a little bit of an aside, 00:12:02.84\00:12:06.36 but we have two people 00:12:06.48\00:12:08.51 primarily with the same problem this time. 00:12:08.75\00:12:11.39 And we have the other interview as well. 00:12:11.45\00:12:14.09 But there is a difference, and that's why I tell people, 00:12:14.24\00:12:17.12 two thirds of your health program is your exercise. 00:12:17.30\00:12:20.42 Now see, he told you that he's been being followed. 00:12:20.69\00:12:25.06 And he does cardio, 00:12:25.33\00:12:27.36 I think it's three times a week or whatever, 00:12:27.37\00:12:29.57 and they have him on a certain elevation, 00:12:29.69\00:12:32.72 at a certain speed, and he knows 00:12:32.73\00:12:34.72 that at the end of so many minutes, 00:12:34.75\00:12:39.57 he's going to start feeling that pain. 00:12:39.84\00:12:42.42 But what he has been doing 00:12:42.72\00:12:44.75 is even though he hasn't been opening all this up, 00:12:45.00\00:12:48.36 he's been developing colateral. 00:12:48.81\00:12:51.60 And so the other patient 00:12:51.75\00:12:54.09 looks at this and he says, 00:12:54.36\00:12:55.48 "Well I didn't get quite as good results." 00:12:55.49\00:12:57.27 And so I was able to tell him, 00:12:57.33\00:12:58.66 that's because he's got these little tiny feeders coming in. 00:12:58.69\00:13:01.81 That's point number one: he's got colateral. 00:13:02.18\00:13:04.39 So this is amazing. 00:13:04.48\00:13:05.87 Explain colateral to our viewers. 00:13:06.03\00:13:08.06 That means that there's... 00:13:08.18\00:13:09.21 One of his arteries is only 75 percent blocked. 00:13:09.48\00:13:12.33 So that one is putting little tiny... 00:13:12.60\00:13:15.00 Some of the little tiny arteries 00:13:15.06\00:13:16.69 from that are starting to develop 00:13:16.70\00:13:18.42 over the area where the 00:13:18.66\00:13:20.24 90-plus percent blockage is, you see? 00:13:20.25\00:13:22.57 And so that one that he's talking about, 00:13:22.84\00:13:26.57 the left anterior descending coronary artery, 00:13:26.84\00:13:29.51 is what they call the widow-maker. 00:13:29.60\00:13:31.30 And it's true. If that blocks off, 00:13:31.31\00:13:34.27 and he hasn't been exercising, 00:13:34.33\00:13:36.63 then he's toast, as they say. 00:13:36.78\00:13:38.84 So that's one thing. The other thing is 00:13:39.24\00:13:42.06 he didn't get the idea 00:13:42.45\00:13:44.33 that he needs to be on a whole-plant foods, 00:13:44.42\00:13:47.75 eaten whole, diet. 00:13:48.03\00:13:51.09 So even if he were to go back and eat totally vegan, 00:13:51.12\00:13:57.45 but he would be adding in the refined carbohydrates, 00:13:57.72\00:14:02.39 and the refined oils, 00:14:02.48\00:14:04.30 then he still wouldn't turn that mechanism off. 00:14:04.63\00:14:06.84 And then the third thing is what I just... 00:14:07.00\00:14:09.48 That's my song and dance. 00:14:09.51\00:14:11.45 I'm harping on this to everybody. 00:14:11.46\00:14:12.87 But I didn't know about it when I went through medical school. 00:14:13.24\00:14:15.45 And that is that when you eat 00:14:15.66\00:14:17.45 only plant-based fats, 00:14:17.60\00:14:19.60 you get those tiny little arteries 00:14:19.61\00:14:21.84 that dilate up just enough. 00:14:22.48\00:14:25.45 So those plugs in his arteries, they haven't changed. 00:14:25.69\00:14:29.15 But those tiny, tiny little arteries, 00:14:29.60\00:14:32.03 they're at the end point. 00:14:32.09\00:14:33.63 They've dilated up just enough 00:14:33.75\00:14:35.78 so that the oxygenated blood 00:14:36.09\00:14:38.06 is flowing in into all parts of his body. 00:14:38.33\00:14:40.72 So his heart... 00:14:40.81\00:14:41.81 It's very, very noticeable to him because he's had this, 00:14:42.12\00:14:45.75 and he knows what he can and can't do. 00:14:46.06\00:14:47.81 It goes to his brain, 00:14:47.87\00:14:49.45 it's going to his kidneys, it's going all over his body. 00:14:49.66\00:14:52.27 And that's why he looks better than when he first came, too. 00:14:52.51\00:14:55.15 And only 17 days. 00:14:55.78\00:14:57.45 And he's had this problem for 18 years, 00:14:57.75\00:15:01.27 where he was going to go under the knife 00:15:01.48\00:15:04.18 and decided not to, and he's gotten progressively better. 00:15:04.24\00:15:07.66 What the good news is, 00:15:07.78\00:15:09.69 that we can make a change. 00:15:09.81\00:15:12.39 But on this plant-based food program, 00:15:12.51\00:15:16.39 whole food program, 00:15:16.57\00:15:18.51 we can totally reverse this cardiovascular situation. 00:15:18.69\00:15:24.03 But see, the thing is, that's the thing. 00:15:24.12\00:15:26.69 It's not reversed. 00:15:26.70\00:15:28.87 But those little tiny arteries are dilated up. 00:15:29.45\00:15:33.06 So it's way out at the end, right where the cells are. 00:15:33.15\00:15:36.06 Now, when he does that, when Ornish 00:15:36.87\00:15:41.45 and especially Esselstyn did their work, 00:15:42.00\00:15:44.30 and they redid the angiograms, 00:15:44.54\00:15:47.81 they saw that some of them had 70 percent regression 00:15:48.12\00:15:51.42 of some of these plaques. 00:15:51.51\00:15:53.66 But see, the thing is, 00:15:53.72\00:15:55.12 we keep looking at the plaque, 00:15:55.13\00:15:57.00 and the plaque is not where the answer is. 00:15:57.21\00:15:59.06 And also, when you eat the green leafy vegetables 00:15:59.15\00:16:02.66 as Doctor Esselstyn, he points this out. 00:16:02.84\00:16:05.36 That's one of his biggest things that he wants people to do. 00:16:05.37\00:16:08.21 Because that's another thing that happens. 00:16:08.33\00:16:11.18 You get nitric oxide, 00:16:11.21\00:16:13.18 and that also helps 00:16:13.24\00:16:14.87 with the circulation, the micro-circulation. 00:16:15.15\00:16:17.27 So you get those two together. 00:16:17.42\00:16:18.72 The exercise is in there, 00:16:18.81\00:16:20.75 and so the heart is starting to pump stronger, 00:16:20.76\00:16:25.00 and that circulation is better. 00:16:25.39\00:16:28.09 The big vessels, the small vessels, 00:16:28.24\00:16:30.54 and the capillaries, 00:16:30.55\00:16:31.81 because there's no fat in there 00:16:31.82\00:16:33.51 to plug up those capillaries, 00:16:33.57\00:16:36.27 so that those red blood cells can't get through there. 00:16:36.39\00:16:38.75 All of it together. 00:16:39.12\00:16:40.24 And what was so neat about his 00:16:40.39\00:16:42.33 is that it was incremental. 00:16:42.60\00:16:45.03 You want to ask me about that? 00:16:45.42\00:16:48.06 Let me ask you about that! 00:16:48.18\00:16:49.75 No, you were on a roll there. I didn't want to stop you! 00:16:50.06\00:16:52.66 But I did want to interrupt you 00:16:52.67\00:16:54.30 and ask you about this elasticity 00:16:54.33\00:16:56.45 of the arteries, the veins, etc. 00:16:56.66\00:16:59.06 The arteries is what we're talking about. 00:16:59.36\00:17:01.54 Yeah, and what I heard you say was, 00:17:01.75\00:17:04.63 these become more flexible and... 00:17:05.00\00:17:08.75 No, what happens is that the tiny smooth muscle 00:17:08.76\00:17:11.87 in these little tiny arteries, 00:17:11.88\00:17:13.87 the prostaglandins-- and here goes that word again-- 00:17:14.36\00:17:18.12 the prostaglandins allow those blood vessels 00:17:18.51\00:17:21.87 to dilate at just enough 00:17:22.00\00:17:23.81 so that the flow of blood goes right to the cells. 00:17:24.18\00:17:27.54 And that is it. It starts within three days. 00:17:27.81\00:17:32.75 So I'm glad you asked about the increments. 00:17:33.00\00:17:35.87 Let me ask you about the increments. 00:17:36.60\00:17:38.39 Okay, there we go. 00:17:38.54\00:17:40.00 So going around the half-mile loop, 00:17:40.21\00:17:42.21 the first day or two that he was here, 00:17:42.22\00:17:44.69 he got the anginal pain. He alluded to that. 00:17:44.72\00:17:47.12 But I was watching for.... 00:17:47.27\00:17:49.06 When he told me that, I was watching for that. 00:17:49.18\00:17:51.48 Then the second, like six, seven, eight days, 00:17:51.51\00:17:54.69 he was able to walk around a mile, 00:17:55.03\00:17:57.36 and he didn't have to stop talking. 00:17:57.42\00:17:59.03 In other words, he could talk and walk, which is... 00:17:59.04\00:18:02.66 We don't want you to be so breathless 00:18:03.09\00:18:06.18 that you can't talk when you're walking. 00:18:06.27\00:18:08.24 And he didn't get the anginal pain. 00:18:08.54\00:18:10.66 And then he was able to do two laps around 00:18:10.81\00:18:16.21 without stopping, and he didn't get the anginal pain. 00:18:16.24\00:18:18.75 See, these are progressive, and each time that I saw him 00:18:18.76\00:18:21.18 he would just, "I've got news for you! 00:18:21.33\00:18:23.69 I've got a miracle!" 00:18:23.78\00:18:25.48 He was so excited about it. 00:18:25.69\00:18:27.18 And then when we put him on the treadmill, 00:18:27.21\00:18:29.39 we could see the difference there, 00:18:29.48\00:18:31.27 because we asked him, 00:18:31.30\00:18:32.75 "Alright, tell us as soon as you get the anginal pain." 00:18:33.09\00:18:35.42 And it was later. 00:18:35.51\00:18:36.69 It was a couple of minutes later. 00:18:36.87\00:18:38.33 And then, "How bad does it get?" 00:18:38.84\00:18:40.36 The first time he said, "It's a 7 or an 8." 00:18:40.37\00:18:42.84 And you could see the look on his face, 00:18:43.18\00:18:45.36 that he wanted to stop. 00:18:45.37\00:18:46.60 And so he did stop, 00:18:46.87\00:18:48.45 and into the recovery stage 00:18:48.63\00:18:52.00 I asked him. He said, "Well, now it's down to a 5. 00:18:52.18\00:18:54.66 Now it's down to a 3." 00:18:54.87\00:18:56.54 And then about 4 to 6 minutes later he says, "Now it's gone." 00:18:56.60\00:19:00.48 The most it got to when he had done 00:19:00.87\00:19:03.75 a couple minutes longer, 00:19:03.76\00:19:05.69 the most it got up to was 5 out of 10, 00:19:05.72\00:19:08.78 if 10 was worst and 0 or 1 was like.... 00:19:08.79\00:19:12.51 So it only got up to a 5, 00:19:13.03\00:19:15.21 it was later than it had before, 00:19:15.45\00:19:17.78 and then when he said that it started easing off 00:19:18.03\00:19:22.15 was within two minutes. 00:19:22.30\00:19:24.15 And then before the four to six minutes 00:19:24.16\00:19:27.63 he said, "It's totally gone now." 00:19:27.75\00:19:30.06 And see, that's not those bigger vessels. 00:19:30.33\00:19:33.57 They haven't changed in 18 days. 00:19:33.72\00:19:36.42 But it's the tiny blood vessels starting within three days, 00:19:36.51\00:19:39.39 they start dilating up. 00:19:39.45\00:19:41.00 The nitric oxide helps too, and it's just... 00:19:41.09\00:19:44.24 So the blockage is not removed then, at this point. 00:19:44.45\00:19:47.75 Everything is expanding a little bit. 00:19:47.76\00:19:49.63 No, but see, it's not such a big deal, 00:19:49.81\00:19:51.63 because those really tight blockages 00:19:51.64\00:19:53.72 are in a certain area there, 00:19:53.73\00:19:55.33 and the blood goes around that, 00:19:55.36\00:19:57.87 unless there's a fatty meal or a clot 00:19:58.24\00:20:00.87 that's going to get stuck there. 00:20:00.88\00:20:03.24 It goes on through there, 00:20:03.36\00:20:05.21 but when it gets out to that area 00:20:05.24\00:20:07.15 where the tiny little blood vessels are, 00:20:07.16\00:20:09.39 if those aren't dilated up, 00:20:09.57\00:20:11.24 even taking the blockages out 00:20:11.33\00:20:12.75 isn't going to be that effective. 00:20:12.76\00:20:14.39 I see. Yep. 00:20:14.51\00:20:15.81 So... It's a whole different concept. 00:20:15.82\00:20:18.12 A whole different concept. 00:20:18.13\00:20:19.60 And I just read, I got it from one of my colleagues, 00:20:19.78\00:20:24.57 70 percent of heart attacks occur 00:20:24.58\00:20:28.84 in an artery that is only 50 percent blocked. 00:20:29.09\00:20:32.27 Seventy percent of heart attacks 00:20:32.72\00:20:36.21 occur in an artery that is only 50 percent blocked. 00:20:36.33\00:20:39.48 It's that inflammatory, hot plaque that breaks open. 00:20:39.54\00:20:43.51 Well, that's very interesting. 00:20:44.72\00:20:46.33 I could talk for hours with you about this, 00:20:46.34\00:20:48.81 but as you know, the clock is winding down. 00:20:49.12\00:20:51.39 Do you have any last minute statement 00:20:51.57\00:20:53.39 you'd like to share with the viewers? 00:20:53.40\00:20:55.18 Well, there's a lot of people that won't do this, 00:20:55.42\00:20:57.27 but I wish more people knew about it, 00:20:57.28\00:20:59.48 and we could coach them along. 00:20:59.72\00:21:02.12 And if they would try it they would realize that 00:21:02.21\00:21:04.87 it's everything that everything else isn't. 00:21:05.39\00:21:08.09 Amen. 00:21:08.54\00:21:09.78 Doctor Lukens, we want to thank you 00:21:09.79\00:21:11.66 for joining us here in the studio. 00:21:11.67\00:21:13.42 Anytime. Oh, what a grip! 00:21:13.60\00:21:15.81 Yes, anytime on this. 00:21:15.87\00:21:17.63 I really appreciate you being here. 00:21:17.78\00:21:19.51 And folks, thank you for joining us, 00:21:20.06\00:21:22.30 but don't go away, because we have a tip for you 00:21:22.57\00:21:25.36 right after this short break. 00:21:25.57\00:21:28.39 Welcome to NEWSTART at Home. I'm your host Don Mackintosh. 00:21:42.42\00:21:44.63 We're glad that you're with us today, 00:21:44.72\00:21:46.18 and in the studio today we have Rich Kollumberg. 00:21:46.19\00:21:49.30 And Rich, you've written a book, 00:21:49.31\00:21:50.78 "Clean Seven Steps to Freedom: What Every Addict Needs." 00:21:50.79\00:21:54.33 Your wife and yourself have written this book, 00:21:54.51\00:21:57.00 probably because you have a little experience. 00:21:57.06\00:21:58.51 A little bit of experience, about 25 years of experience 00:21:58.63\00:22:01.45 of becoming a drug addict. 00:22:01.48\00:22:04.18 Okay. Can't put it any other way. 00:22:04.51\00:22:07.00 And you know, you kind of laugh nervously, 00:22:07.30\00:22:10.30 but it was really not a good time. 00:22:10.33\00:22:12.00 Not a pleasant experience. 00:22:12.18\00:22:13.48 But praise God, even you go that way, 00:22:13.57\00:22:16.72 God can work things for good, 00:22:17.00\00:22:18.54 and now you're helping people get out of that. 00:22:18.63\00:22:20.03 That's true. Right now my wife and I are 00:22:20.12\00:22:23.15 helping people to get out of the bondage of addiction, 00:22:23.21\00:22:27.45 to realize that they don't have to live that way. 00:22:27.66\00:22:30.24 You and I talked, and you said there's two types of addiction, 00:22:30.66\00:22:33.54 substance and... 00:22:33.69\00:22:35.00 Behavioral. Behaviors. 00:22:35.15\00:22:37.00 And substances would be 00:22:37.12\00:22:40.42 alcohol, drugs, whatever-- your drug of choice. 00:22:40.45\00:22:42.54 And what are some of the behaviors? 00:22:42.75\00:22:44.27 Well, the behaviors are anger, jealousy, 00:22:44.54\00:22:48.51 pride, sexual addictions, 00:22:48.60\00:22:51.72 gambling, and one that you might not think too much about, 00:22:52.03\00:22:55.51 and that would be disobedience. 00:22:55.54\00:22:56.69 So you're kind of addicted to disobedience? 00:22:57.03\00:22:59.24 Have you ever run a red light? 00:22:59.33\00:23:01.45 And when you run the red light, 00:23:02.03\00:23:03.57 there's a little chill that goes down your spine 00:23:03.69\00:23:06.12 and you look in the mirror and you say, 00:23:06.21\00:23:08.06 "Whew. I didn't get caught." 00:23:08.09\00:23:10.18 And the first place you go, 00:23:10.21\00:23:11.51 you tell somebody else about that. 00:23:11.52\00:23:13.15 There's a little bit of a thrill that happens with disobedience. 00:23:13.48\00:23:16.81 Well, I've never really had that thrill, 00:23:17.00\00:23:18.12 I've got to face it, but I can see what you mean. 00:23:18.13\00:23:19.60 There's been some other areas where 00:23:19.61\00:23:21.21 I've been overly thrilled about things. 00:23:21.22\00:23:22.75 So there's like kind of a rush 00:23:23.09\00:23:24.48 that comes from doing what's wrong. 00:23:24.49\00:23:26.12 Yeah. 00:23:26.13\00:23:27.36 And this is what happened in your life? 00:23:27.51\00:23:29.00 This is what happened in my life. 00:23:29.03\00:23:31.36 And you know, disobedience is funny, 00:23:31.60\00:23:33.21 because you start stepping out on the edge, 00:23:33.22\00:23:35.30 and after you get so far out on the edge, 00:23:35.31\00:23:37.45 then that thrill is gone. 00:23:37.46\00:23:38.66 You've got to move out a little bit farther 00:23:38.67\00:23:40.18 and a little bit farther. 00:23:40.19\00:23:41.36 Disobedience is funny. 00:23:41.57\00:23:43.00 If you want a child not to do something, 00:23:43.01\00:23:46.18 you tell them to do it. -"Don't look at the red monkey." 00:23:46.27\00:23:48.27 Don't look at the red monkey, 00:23:48.45\00:23:49.57 or don't think about red monkeys. 00:23:49.58\00:23:50.81 And we're all thinking about them right now. 00:23:51.00\00:23:52.63 It's funny like that. 00:23:52.64\00:23:54.24 So that's kind of like part of the human nature, 00:23:54.51\00:23:57.75 the human condition, that you just kind of are drawn 00:23:57.81\00:24:00.81 to sometimes what's wrong. 00:24:01.06\00:24:03.15 The grass on the other side of the fence. 00:24:03.16\00:24:05.30 Exactly. You know, the first drug-pusher 00:24:05.31\00:24:07.66 that there ever was, was Satan 00:24:07.72\00:24:09.69 in the Garden of Eden, and the drug 00:24:10.03\00:24:11.27 he was pushing was disobedience. 00:24:11.28\00:24:12.72 In fact, if you read Story of Redemption page 36, 00:24:13.06\00:24:18.33 you will read, "She then 00:24:18.75\00:24:20.63 plucked for herself the fruit and ate, 00:24:20.64\00:24:23.51 and imagined she felt a quickening power 00:24:23.52\00:24:26.18 of a new and elevated existence 00:24:26.21\00:24:28.72 as a result of the exhilarating 00:24:28.78\00:24:32.15 influence of the forbidden fruit. 00:24:32.16\00:24:34.60 She was in a strange and unnatural excitement 00:24:34.87\00:24:37.69 as she sought her husband with her hands filled with the 00:24:37.70\00:24:40.27 forbidden fruit." 00:24:40.51\00:24:41.75 She actually got high on this disobedience. 00:24:41.78\00:24:46.57 So even though it's wrong, 00:24:47.06\00:24:48.33 you become obedient to the wrong 00:24:48.42\00:24:50.45 instead of obedient to the right. 00:24:50.46\00:24:52.51 So how can this change? How did it change for you? 00:24:52.66\00:24:54.48 Well, I had to first be honest with myself, 00:24:54.57\00:25:00.06 and realize and tell myself the truth that I was an addict. 00:25:00.09\00:25:03.42 It's interesting because God is real gentle with us, 00:25:03.43\00:25:07.45 but He's firm with us. 00:25:07.54\00:25:09.33 And after I cried out to God 00:25:09.69\00:25:11.33 and He helped me, He said that... 00:25:11.39\00:25:13.21 He told me, kind of in a sense of humor, 00:25:13.33\00:25:15.30 He said, "You think you're pretty smart, don't you?" 00:25:15.31\00:25:17.45 I said, "Yeah, I do." 00:25:17.51\00:25:19.12 And He says, "Well Rich, 00:25:19.18\00:25:20.21 this is what your best thinking got you, 00:25:20.22\00:25:21.78 was 25 years of drug abuse, 00:25:22.18\00:25:24.24 you've used everybody up in your life, and you're..." 00:25:24.25\00:25:26.81 So when this thought came to you, 00:25:27.42\00:25:28.63 where were you? Were you sitting alone? 00:25:28.64\00:25:30.51 Everybody's kind of alienated from you? 00:25:30.52\00:25:32.45 Yeah. I was all done. 00:25:32.54\00:25:34.03 I was all done. I was all by myself. 00:25:34.04\00:25:35.87 Even my girlfriend wouldn't see me anymore. 00:25:36.03\00:25:37.78 That's what my best thinking had gotten me, 00:25:37.81\00:25:40.12 was a life of disobedience. 00:25:40.21\00:25:41.66 And that thought came to you? 00:25:41.69\00:25:43.27 In other words, your best thinking led to nothing. 00:25:43.36\00:25:46.42 Yeah, it led to nothing. 00:25:46.51\00:25:47.51 Forty-one years trying it my way didn't work. 00:25:47.63\00:25:50.15 God said it's time to try it His way. 00:25:50.24\00:25:52.66 And that's what opened you up to obedience 00:25:52.81\00:25:55.60 to His truth instead of disobedience. 00:25:55.61\00:25:58.48 Right, the new way of thinking. The whole new way of thinking. 00:25:58.60\00:26:01.06 In our life we're walking around 00:26:01.09\00:26:02.66 dragging this bag, so to speak, 00:26:02.67\00:26:05.09 in our minds, and this bag is disobedience. 00:26:05.21\00:26:07.42 And we keep putting stuff into that bag, 00:26:07.43\00:26:09.39 and that bag gets really heavy. 00:26:09.40\00:26:10.84 But when you come to Christ and you obey, 00:26:11.15\00:26:13.42 you start pulling stuff out of that bag, 00:26:13.43\00:26:15.24 and He says, "My burden is light." 00:26:15.30\00:26:17.09 It's kind of deep if it does... obedience in other areas. 00:26:17.18\00:26:19.54 "Every thought," the Bible says, "brought into obedience." 00:26:19.63\00:26:22.24 Great thoughts here in this book that 00:26:22.42\00:26:24.03 you've written along with your wife, 00:26:24.04\00:26:25.45 "Clean Seven Steps to Freedom." 00:26:25.54\00:26:27.42 You can go on our website, 00:26:27.43\00:26:28.84 and there's a link there, 00:26:30.66\00:26:31.66 and it will take you right to the site 00:26:31.67\00:26:32.66 where you can get this book. 00:26:32.67\00:26:33.66 It's a great resource. 00:26:33.67\00:26:34.75 We're glad you've been here. Thanks for coming. 00:26:34.78\00:26:36.27 My pleasure. 00:26:36.28\00:26:37.27 And thank you for coming. 00:26:37.33\00:26:38.45 We hope that you have as a result 00:26:38.46\00:26:39.78 a new start that starts right now. 00:26:39.79\00:26:42.60 Modern views of evolution stem all the way back 00:26:50.12\00:26:52.63 to theories developed in the mid-1800s. 00:26:52.66\00:26:55.15 Out of the same time period came ideas that shape 00:26:55.72\00:26:59.12 our educational system today. 00:26:59.15\00:27:01.30 The Common School Movement, for example, 00:27:01.84\00:27:04.21 saw schools more like a factory, 00:27:04.57\00:27:06.48 with students blindly memorizing instruction 00:27:06.49\00:27:09.24 rather than thinking for themselves. 00:27:09.27\00:27:11.24 Their curriculum was rigid and theoretical. 00:27:11.69\00:27:14.24 Instead of being flexible and practical, 00:27:14.25\00:27:17.09 it was designed to conform the individual 00:27:17.24\00:27:19.63 into a specific ideological mold 00:27:19.72\00:27:22.27 that fit the needs of an old industrial era 00:27:22.51\00:27:25.06 long since passed. 00:27:25.07\00:27:26.45 Just like our view of creation in six literal days, 00:27:27.72\00:27:31.06 we believe the Bible contains an educational blueprint 00:27:31.15\00:27:35.15 radically different from the one we see now. 00:27:35.42\00:27:37.78 Well friends, thank you for joining us. 00:27:51.09\00:27:53.12 In the meantime, pick up the phone and call: 00:27:53.13\00:27:56.12 May God bless you. 00:28:04.45\00:28:05.78
