Hi folks, and welcome to another edition of NEWSTART Now. 00:00:24.00\00:00:27.63 We have a guest with us today. 00:00:27.78\00:00:29.30 Her name is Lee. 00:00:29.36\00:00:30.66 I'll get her to pronounce her full name in just a moment, 00:00:30.75\00:00:33.72 but I'd like to take a look at the video 00:00:33.75\00:00:36.03 of when she first arrived here. 00:00:36.04\00:00:37.63 About a month ago or so, 00:00:39.24\00:00:41.54 I was going to South America for ten weeks 00:00:42.27\00:00:47.63 to specialize my Spanish. 00:00:47.72\00:00:52.21 And two weeks before that, 00:00:52.72\00:00:55.63 I saw some stuff that bothered me. 00:00:56.03\00:00:58.78 And I went to the doctor and went for tests, 00:00:59.18\00:01:02.75 and they told me within a week that I have cancer. 00:01:03.12\00:01:05.87 So I went through surgery, 00:01:06.72\00:01:09.27 and they said that they were able to take 00:01:09.42\00:01:13.12 everything that was cancerous. 00:01:13.13\00:01:15.03 But they also sent me to an oncologist. 00:01:15.30\00:01:19.36 And the routine is, in my case, 00:01:19.51\00:01:22.87 I would have to go through sixteen weeks of chemo, 00:01:23.36\00:01:27.57 and four weeks of radiation. 00:01:27.69\00:01:29.60 And I said, "Let me think about it, 00:01:30.84\00:01:33.66 because it's only three weeks, 00:01:34.18\00:01:36.75 not even quite, 00:01:36.84\00:01:37.87 out of surgery." 00:01:38.30\00:01:39.60 And I thought, 00:01:39.66\00:01:41.12 If they put me on chemo, 00:01:41.24\00:01:43.30 the way I feel now, 00:01:43.54\00:01:45.24 I doubt that I would make it. 00:01:45.78\00:01:50.09 Really, Weimar I think is my hope for now 00:01:50.60\00:01:54.63 to have a quality life. 00:01:55.18\00:01:57.03 Welcome back, folks. 00:02:00.00\00:02:01.72 In our studio we have Lee. 00:02:02.12\00:02:04.18 Lee, how are you? Very good, thank you. 00:02:04.24\00:02:06.18 And would you pronounce for me your entire name now? 00:02:06.27\00:02:08.84 Sure. It's Wilhelmina Lee Cachola. 00:02:09.03\00:02:13.78 Oh, Wilhelmina Lee Cachola. 00:02:14.00\00:02:16.33 Can I just call you Lee? 00:02:16.48\00:02:17.63 Of course. Great. 00:02:17.78\00:02:19.57 Well Lee, you've been with us now for about 17 days, 00:02:20.12\00:02:23.03 and I know you've gone through a lot of changes. 00:02:23.09\00:02:25.54 Tell us about what has happened 00:02:26.03\00:02:28.54 from our first interview till now. 00:02:28.72\00:02:31.45 A lot of things. 00:02:31.87\00:02:33.63 A lot of good things, positive. 00:02:33.81\00:02:36.24 And I'm very hopeful. 00:02:36.60\00:02:38.27 The class is well-catered, 00:02:38.54\00:02:44.48 and the people that work here, who help us, 00:02:44.63\00:02:49.51 make it easy for us to follow the rules. 00:02:49.66\00:02:53.78 And I certainly, certainly felt 00:02:54.30\00:02:57.09 that God's presence is here. 00:02:57.12\00:02:59.03 Yes. And I want to stop you just for a minute because 00:02:59.12\00:03:02.42 myself, when I hear the world "rules," 00:03:02.66\00:03:05.51 I kinda go, "Wait a minute, rules?" 00:03:05.72\00:03:07.36 I'm not good at doing rules! 00:03:07.57\00:03:09.33 What do you mean by "rules"? 00:03:09.45\00:03:12.12 Well...not rules, really. 00:03:12.24\00:03:17.75 Where, you know, the... 00:03:18.21\00:03:21.06 The theme of this is going back to 00:03:21.57\00:03:26.03 what God has laid down for us 00:03:26.30\00:03:30.57 in our eating, healthwise, 00:03:31.00\00:03:33.84 so that we don't go through the maladies of life. 00:03:34.12\00:03:40.06 And I felt that in my case, 00:03:40.45\00:03:44.06 I have not been following that. 00:03:44.36\00:03:47.39 So it's really good. It's not rules. 00:03:47.72\00:03:53.30 It's just getting us in that path, 00:03:53.51\00:03:56.87 and hopefully we will live a more good life. 00:03:57.18\00:04:04.69 So I believe that with the nutrition, 00:04:05.60\00:04:10.69 with the use of air 00:04:10.78\00:04:15.75 and exercise, 00:04:16.09\00:04:19.66 and balance it with trusting in God, 00:04:20.84\00:04:24.30 that makes it such a good program. 00:04:24.36\00:04:26.72 We all felt that way. 00:04:26.84\00:04:28.84 And I notice the difference 00:04:29.51\00:04:30.84 between the first interview and now. 00:04:30.85\00:04:32.60 You seem to be a little more... 00:04:33.00\00:04:35.09 You're glowing a little bit. 00:04:35.10\00:04:37.33 And, may I ask your age? 00:04:37.63\00:04:40.42 I'm sixty-three. 00:04:40.57\00:04:41.72 You're sixty-three? 00:04:42.39\00:04:43.45 I'm a grandmother of two, 00:04:43.46\00:04:45.33 and a mother of one. 00:04:45.39\00:04:46.75 I asked you that because I knew your age; 00:04:47.03\00:04:49.51 I just wanted the viewers to know that. 00:04:49.52\00:04:51.42 You don't look a day older than 39. 00:04:51.60\00:04:55.24 Thank you. I felt better since I came here. 00:04:55.63\00:04:58.72 And what has changed with regards to your 00:04:59.03\00:05:03.36 colon cancer? You had that, 00:05:03.66\00:05:05.57 and you had surgery. 00:05:05.58\00:05:07.00 Right now that's in remission? 00:05:07.42\00:05:10.21 There's no evidence of any cancers? 00:05:10.33\00:05:13.51 I do not know, to tell you the truth. 00:05:14.72\00:05:17.36 What they told me is 00:05:17.45\00:05:19.12 they took everything that they could see there. 00:05:19.66\00:05:22.42 But because cancer is a microscopic, 00:05:22.51\00:05:25.75 they want to do chemotherapy and radiation. 00:05:26.54\00:05:32.42 When I make that decision, probably next week, 00:05:32.72\00:05:36.36 but I don't know when, they are going to do it. 00:05:36.51\00:05:39.18 I don't believe I will do that. 00:05:39.36\00:05:41.15 I feel a lot better now. 00:05:41.66\00:05:43.78 I walk at least close to three miles. 00:05:43.87\00:05:48.51 I was not able to walk when I came to Weimar. 00:05:48.72\00:05:53.69 And I hit the treadmill, 00:05:54.09\00:05:58.06 good food, 00:05:58.27\00:06:00.36 good people to talk to, 00:06:00.60\00:06:02.45 supportive doctors, 00:06:02.60\00:06:04.21 everybody has just been wonderful. 00:06:04.27\00:06:06.87 I want to talk about... I was depressed. 00:08:12.15\00:08:15.51 But what we have found with this depression 00:08:15.87\00:08:19.21 is a lifestyle of what we eat and what we drink. 00:08:19.57\00:08:23.51 And as soon as I got off the meats, 00:08:23.84\00:08:26.78 and the dairies and the cheeses, 00:08:27.15\00:08:28.81 and all those "good" things, and the alcohol, 00:08:29.03\00:08:31.24 of course depression went away immediately, 00:08:31.39\00:08:34.48 almost overnight. It was fine! 00:15:28.73\00:15:29.81 You know, I wasn't looking forward to it. 00:15:30.57\00:15:34.03 They're getting really slick. 00:15:34.45\00:15:36.27 Yeah, no pun intended. But I actually...it was fine! 00:15:36.57\00:15:43.27 I went through it. 00:15:43.33\00:15:44.36 They said I was good, come back in five years. 00:15:44.37\00:15:47.06 I think it's essential at a certain age. 00:15:47.07\00:15:50.09 But I want to ask you a question. 00:15:50.15\00:15:52.09 With regards to her condition or people like her, 00:15:52.33\00:15:56.21 does it have any... fried foods-- 00:15:56.33\00:15:59.06 What about foods that are packed with grease? 00:15:59.07\00:16:02.69 You know, any of these things are factors, 00:16:03.33\00:16:07.81 but see, when you are on a vegan diet, 00:16:08.09\00:16:10.84 you get a different kind of bacteria, 00:16:11.63\00:16:14.18 and people that first start on it, 00:16:14.19\00:16:15.63 they just think that they've 00:16:15.66\00:16:17.72 become a gas balloon or something like that, 00:16:17.73\00:16:20.87 because it's just...you know. 00:16:20.88\00:16:22.30 But as the bacteria change, 00:16:22.51\00:16:25.36 the ones that are going through there with the meat products, 00:16:25.78\00:16:31.69 you just say the rotten meat that's gone through there, 00:16:32.27\00:16:37.33 the meat that's being and been digested, 00:16:37.34\00:16:40.24 they have bacteria that are giving off things... 00:16:40.57\00:16:44.30 They grow better when there's not as much air around. 00:16:46.15\00:16:49.87 And they have substances that are called putrescine, 00:16:50.15\00:16:54.45 and cadaverine, 00:16:54.66\00:16:56.54 and these things are very, very irritating. 00:16:56.66\00:17:00.45 And these polyps are hanging down there 00:17:00.66\00:17:02.72 and all this stuff goes by, and it goes by slowly. 00:17:02.87\00:17:05.36 The average vegan, between 12 and 30 hours 00:17:05.54\00:17:10.51 what they've eaten has gone through. 00:17:10.60\00:17:12.45 A person that's on a high meat diet, 00:17:12.66\00:17:15.36 72 hours, 90 hours... 00:17:15.63\00:17:18.48 If they're in a convalescent hospital 00:17:18.57\00:17:20.54 and they're on some opiates, 00:17:20.55\00:17:22.03 two weeks later, you see? 00:17:22.12\00:17:24.36 And so it's just slowly moving through there. 00:17:24.63\00:17:26.81 It's very irritating. 00:17:26.87\00:17:28.21 It has a chance to work on these cells, 00:17:28.45\00:17:30.57 and they become cancerous. 00:17:30.58\00:17:32.03 And there's no indication that there's anything. 00:17:32.39\00:17:34.51 That can be there 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, 00:17:34.69\00:17:37.72 slowly progressing. 00:17:37.78\00:17:39.45 And a lot of times, by the time it's... 00:17:39.51\00:17:41.12 That's why you have to do it prophylactically. 00:17:41.30\00:17:44.81 You have to do it ahead of time and see what's in there. 00:17:45.06\00:17:47.57 Now, the meat itself, that's one thing, 00:17:48.03\00:17:51.03 but let me ask you another thing that's on my mind. 00:17:51.12\00:17:54.03 What about all the different 00:17:54.24\00:17:57.42 products that they feed cattle these days, 00:17:57.43\00:18:00.57 and all these things? Do they create some... 00:18:01.00\00:18:03.36 Yeah, those are all factors. 00:18:03.37\00:18:04.69 But we're talking about cancer of the colon, 00:18:04.84\00:18:06.75 and it's the putrefactive byproducts. 00:18:07.06\00:18:12.21 This is when there's toxic waste. 00:18:13.66\00:18:15.39 People talk about all kinds of toxic waste, 00:18:16.30\00:18:18.54 and there's a lot of stuff out there-- 00:18:18.57\00:18:20.06 colon cleanse, and you get 00:18:20.21\00:18:21.81 these things that come out like a string of sausages. 00:18:22.00\00:18:26.78 That's a whole bunch of rubbish. 00:18:27.15\00:18:28.63 But this is really toxic waste, and it's irritating those cells, 00:18:28.78\00:18:32.60 and those cells are turning cancerous, 00:18:32.81\00:18:34.78 And they seldom give you a real big indication 00:18:35.21\00:18:40.30 until it's really pretty late. 00:18:40.36\00:18:42.42 That's why you've got to do it early. 00:18:42.60\00:18:44.09 You've got to check early. 00:18:44.10\00:18:45.66 With regards to Lee, 00:18:45.67\00:18:47.51 now she's learned a new lifestyle. 00:18:47.72\00:18:50.00 She's had the procedure done, she's come here, 00:18:50.01\00:18:52.66 she is sticking to this program. 00:18:52.78\00:18:54.57 She says she's feeling better. She looks better. 00:18:54.63\00:18:57.30 Yeah, well remember, she was just 2 or 3 weeks after surgery. 00:18:57.87\00:19:01.87 Even then, they did it with the scopes. 00:19:03.48\00:19:05.66 Oh really? Yeah, they didn't cut. 00:19:06.06\00:19:08.03 Both of them had it done with the scopes. Yeah, go ahead. 00:19:08.42\00:19:10.72 With regards to her situation, 00:19:11.18\00:19:13.75 if she were to stay on this vegan lifestyle-- 00:19:13.81\00:19:18.03 As. Not if, but as she stays on it. 00:19:18.12\00:19:22.03 --on this vegan lifestyle, 00:19:22.45\00:19:25.36 are you telling me, are you telling the viewing audience, 00:19:25.78\00:19:28.87 that pretty much her condition will just go away? 00:19:29.27\00:19:32.69 Her chances of getting recurrent cancer 00:19:32.84\00:19:36.21 are as low as they would be 00:19:36.22\00:19:38.39 for her getting the original cancer when she stays on that. 00:19:38.60\00:19:43.03 Not a hundred percent, but almost that low. 00:19:43.09\00:19:45.72 And the thing is that she had high cholesterol too. 00:19:45.84\00:19:48.81 So what we did was we got her off 00:19:49.69\00:19:52.42 the cholesterol- lowering medication. 00:19:52.54\00:19:54.45 She was on a pretty big dose of it. 00:19:54.46\00:19:56.27 And now she can follow her cholesterol. 00:19:56.69\00:19:59.33 And when she follows her cholesterol 00:19:59.69\00:20:01.63 and her cholesterol gets below 150, 00:20:01.64\00:20:04.09 then she's going to realize that she's on the program. 00:20:04.84\00:20:07.78 I had somebody that didn't have cancer that said, 00:20:07.79\00:20:11.24 "Since I went through the program, 00:20:11.36\00:20:13.78 I have never knowingly allowed one particle of animal product 00:20:14.33\00:20:19.30 to pass my lips since then." 00:20:19.51\00:20:21.45 And the guy looked ten years younger 00:20:21.54\00:20:23.72 than when he had first come into the program. 00:20:23.73\00:20:26.42 Aside now from the problems that we've already discussed, 00:20:27.33\00:20:32.18 was there anything else? 00:20:32.33\00:20:34.69 Medications she's no longer taking? 00:20:34.70\00:20:38.12 Yeah, there was some. 00:20:38.27\00:20:40.09 She had some reflux and all those kind of things. 00:20:40.10\00:20:43.06 All these kind of things. 00:20:43.18\00:20:44.24 But what I'd really like to concentrate on 00:20:44.25\00:20:46.00 is the fact that she has to be vegan, totally vegan, 00:20:46.42\00:20:51.18 no refined foods for the rest of her life, 00:20:51.33\00:20:53.81 and it probably will never come back. 00:20:54.12\00:20:57.33 Well, that's an amazing statement that you just made, 00:20:58.84\00:21:02.15 but I've experienced it in my own life, 00:21:02.24\00:21:04.54 being vegan now for four years, and the transformation. 00:21:05.09\00:21:08.66 Doctor Lukens, I want to thank you 00:21:09.09\00:21:10.78 for being in our studio. 00:21:10.79\00:21:12.06 It's my pleasure, as always, because 00:21:12.07\00:21:14.48 that is something they've got to know. 00:21:14.49\00:21:15.87 Folks, thanks for joining us, 00:21:16.24\00:21:18.45 but don't go away, because we have a tip for you right now. 00:21:18.57\00:21:22.54 Hi, welcome to NEWSTART Now. 00:21:36.63\00:21:37.87 I'm Don Mackintosh, and I'm glad to be talking today 00:21:38.00\00:21:40.66 with Dr. Brian Schwartz. 00:21:40.67\00:21:41.84 Welcome, Doctor. Well, thank you. 00:21:42.12\00:21:43.84 We're going to be talking about this today. 00:21:43.85\00:21:45.60 It's, well, something that's like this--a heart. 00:21:45.69\00:21:48.60 And you're a cardiologist, 00:21:48.72\00:21:49.81 which just means you study the heart. 00:21:49.82\00:21:51.39 What does that mean exactly? 00:21:51.48\00:21:52.51 You went to school for medical school, 00:21:52.52\00:21:53.81 then you went through a residency 00:21:54.09\00:21:55.45 that looked at the heart. 00:21:55.46\00:21:56.48 Well actually, residency is in internal medicine, 00:21:56.54\00:21:59.48 then there's an additional four years of training 00:22:00.00\00:22:01.69 after the medicine residency to specialize just in the heart. 00:22:01.70\00:22:05.30 So it's like 4 years, and 4 years, plus 4 years. 00:22:05.39\00:22:07.72 Yeah, when I turned 40 I told people I had played for 5 years, 00:22:08.00\00:22:11.81 worked for 5 years, and the rest of my time I had been training. 00:22:12.09\00:22:14.57 It's a very long time. 00:22:14.72\00:22:15.84 Okay, good. So there's probably 00:22:16.45\00:22:18.09 not a better person to talk about 00:22:18.10\00:22:19.66 what really happens when someone has a heart attack. 00:22:19.81\00:22:22.84 Some of the signs and symptoms maybe, 00:22:23.03\00:22:25.66 let's give a couple of those, 00:22:25.78\00:22:26.87 and then talk about what's really happening 00:22:26.88\00:22:28.66 when someone has a heart attack. 00:22:28.67\00:22:30.03 Yeah, actually, looking at the heart, 00:22:30.36\00:22:32.27 when someone has a heart attack, 00:22:32.28\00:22:34.12 they immediately may feel a heaviness 00:22:34.27\00:22:36.03 or a squeezing pressure in their heart. 00:22:36.04\00:22:37.75 And that's the way of the heart to tell them that 00:22:38.03\00:22:40.87 that part of the muscle to the heart 00:22:41.18\00:22:42.60 is not getting enough oxygen. 00:22:42.61\00:22:43.75 So what actually happens in the arteries, 00:22:44.00\00:22:46.00 and there's three main arteries that go to the heart, 00:22:46.03\00:22:47.72 Point on there so you can see on your camera. 00:22:48.27\00:22:50.33 What happens, which...? 00:22:50.48\00:22:51.48 Okay, so the heart pumps the blood to the whole body, 00:22:51.78\00:22:54.72 but it also has three arteries that 00:22:55.09\00:22:56.51 pump the blood back to its own muscle. 00:22:56.52\00:22:58.09 There's one artery on the right side of the heart 00:22:58.42\00:23:00.15 called the right coronary artery. 00:23:00.16\00:23:01.57 And then the left artery gives off two main branches. 00:23:01.66\00:23:04.03 One goes around the back of the heart called the circumflex, 00:23:04.21\00:23:06.48 and the biggest artery typically 00:23:06.49\00:23:08.18 goes down the front of the heart, 00:23:08.19\00:23:09.75 called the LAD--the left anterior descending artery. 00:23:09.81\00:23:13.21 And so what happens then? 00:23:14.21\00:23:15.48 They had that feeling maybe of crushing pain or whatnot 00:23:15.49\00:23:18.69 for three to five minutes, and then? 00:23:18.81\00:23:20.36 What's happening really? 00:23:20.37\00:23:21.36 So, looking at the artery, 00:23:21.42\00:23:23.78 the heart does an incredible amount of work. 00:23:23.79\00:23:26.63 This muscle has to get blood supplied to it, 00:23:27.09\00:23:29.84 oxygen supplied to it, 00:23:30.00\00:23:31.15 just like all the rest of the organs of the body. 00:23:31.16\00:23:32.75 If that were to stop because the artery just suddenly 00:23:32.87\00:23:35.42 constricts down or plugs off 00:23:35.43\00:23:37.78 because of a clot or a rupture of a plaque, 00:23:37.79\00:23:40.06 that would immediately cause necrosis, 00:23:40.15\00:23:43.78 or a lack of oxygen occurring to those 00:23:43.79\00:23:45.48 areas of the muscle, which start to die. 00:23:45.49\00:23:47.45 And as it starts to die, it causes pain or discomfort. 00:23:47.57\00:23:50.84 So that doesn't just happen all at once. 00:23:50.87\00:23:53.57 That's a process maybe that builds up. 00:23:53.78\00:23:56.51 Yeah, unfortunately in America, 00:23:56.81\00:23:58.63 little fatty streaks start occurring in the artery 00:23:58.64\00:24:01.66 even in newborn babies. 00:24:01.67\00:24:03.63 Newborn babies? 00:24:03.78\00:24:05.12 We now know that it can occur in newborn babies, 00:24:05.36\00:24:07.36 and even through teenage years 00:24:07.45\00:24:09.30 those little fatty areas start to thicken. 00:24:09.36\00:24:11.51 This is a process that occurs over 40, 50, 60 years 00:24:11.63\00:24:15.18 until it gets to a point where the buildup of plaque 00:24:15.19\00:24:17.87 narrows that artery. 00:24:17.88\00:24:19.81 And it may get to the point where due to 00:24:20.06\00:24:23.45 excessive emotional stress 00:24:23.54\00:24:25.27 or sudden exertion that you're not in shape for 00:24:25.36\00:24:28.39 can just cause that plaque to rupture. 00:24:28.60\00:24:30.66 When it ruptures it exposes lots of 00:24:31.03\00:24:35.27 agents to the bloodstream that can cause a blood clot to begin. 00:24:36.18\00:24:39.39 And as that blood clot begins it can 00:24:39.45\00:24:41.51 shut down the artery completely, 00:24:41.60\00:24:42.72 and that's what leads to a heart attack. 00:24:42.73\00:24:44.15 So it's really, the plaque rupturing is not the big thing. 00:24:44.45\00:24:49.33 It's the other things that it causes 00:24:49.39\00:24:51.63 to put into action that's the big thing. 00:24:51.64\00:24:54.12 That's exactly right. 00:24:54.60\00:24:57.27 There is a serious problem 00:24:57.63\00:24:58.87 with the artery closing down completely. 00:24:58.88\00:25:00.78 But what happens is the plaque ruptures. 00:25:01.09\00:25:03.12 As the plaque ruptures it exposes this lipid, 00:25:03.24\00:25:06.00 which is like cholesterol plaque inside the plaque. 00:25:06.18\00:25:09.03 And as that gets exposed to the bloodstream, 00:25:09.04\00:25:12.24 the little platelets and things that cause a blood clot 00:25:12.45\00:25:14.42 start sticking to that lipid core. 00:25:14.43\00:25:16.39 Other things are released, such as 00:25:16.81\00:25:18.81 catecholamines or epinephrine. 00:25:19.03\00:25:21.24 That causes spasm of the arteries. 00:25:21.39\00:25:23.30 And once you disrupt one plaque in the artery, 00:25:23.31\00:25:26.45 you can cause disruptions in other plaques, 00:25:26.46\00:25:28.48 and you even have a higher risk for a stroke 00:25:28.54\00:25:30.33 or a heart attack in a second area of the heart. 00:25:30.36\00:25:33.36 So, there's mediators that flow 00:25:34.39\00:25:35.72 throughout the whole body during a heart attack, 00:25:35.73\00:25:37.75 not just affecting that one area of the heart. 00:25:37.81\00:25:40.12 Well, let's say I just want to avoid this. 00:25:40.36\00:25:44.33 Let's say I have heart disease and I want to avoid it. 00:25:44.45\00:25:46.39 And we've got about 30 seconds for this, but... 00:25:46.40\00:25:49.06 I mean, because that can happen! 00:25:49.07\00:25:50.42 But what can I do? I've already got heart disease. 00:25:50.54\00:25:52.75 How can I make sure that I don't have one? 00:25:53.33\00:25:54.51 I mean, not make sure, but avoid it. 00:25:54.52\00:25:56.21 Once you already know you have heart disease, 00:25:56.39\00:25:58.60 then you need to treat the big bioverse factors-- 00:25:58.72\00:26:01.60 not smoke, exercise regularly, 00:26:01.81\00:26:05.00 know your cholesterol and make sure it's under control, 00:26:05.12\00:26:07.33 make sure your blood pressure is under control, 00:26:07.54\00:26:09.69 and control your diet, 00:26:09.84\00:26:11.24 and make sure you're not obese. 00:26:11.27\00:26:12.69 Say those one more time for us. 00:26:13.00\00:26:14.48 Okay, so, not smoking, 00:26:14.49\00:26:17.39 avoiding diabetes and hypertension, 00:26:17.60\00:26:20.18 knowing your cholesterol and having it under control, 00:26:20.51\00:26:23.75 getting plenty of exercise, 00:26:24.30\00:26:25.36 and in America right now, a big problem is obesity, 00:26:25.39\00:26:28.51 and controlling diet is important for that. 00:26:28.57\00:26:30.81 We've been talking with Dr. Brian Schwartz. 00:26:31.18\00:26:33.00 Go to www.newstart.com for more information on this. 00:26:33.15\00:26:35.63 We're glad that you joined us, 00:26:35.64\00:26:36.72 and thank you for being with us too. 00:26:36.73\00:26:38.06 Well, you're welcome. 00:26:38.07\00:26:39.27 Modern views of evolution stem all the way back 00:26:46.63\00:26:49.24 to theories developed in the mid-1800s. 00:26:49.27\00:26:51.66 Out of the same time period came ideas that shape 00:26:52.33\00:26:55.63 our educational system today. 00:26:55.66\00:26:57.81 The Common School Movement, for example, 00:26:58.45\00:27:00.72 saw schools more like a factory, 00:27:01.18\00:27:03.09 with students blindly memorizing instruction 00:27:03.10\00:27:05.75 rather than thinking for themselves. 00:27:05.78\00:27:07.75 Their curriculum was rigid and theoretical. 00:27:08.30\00:27:10.75 Instead of being flexible and practical, 00:27:10.76\00:27:13.60 it was designed to conform the individual 00:27:13.75\00:27:16.24 into a specific idealogical mold 00:27:16.33\00:27:18.78 that fit the needs of an old industrial era 00:27:19.12\00:27:21.57 long since passed. 00:27:21.58\00:27:23.06 Just like our view of creation in six literal days, 00:27:24.33\00:27:27.57 we believe the Bible contains an educational blueprint 00:27:27.66\00:27:31.66 radically different from the one we see now. 00:27:32.03\00:27:34.39 Well friends, that's it for today. 00:27:47.69\00:27:49.57 Thank you for joining us. 00:27:49.60\00:27:50.84 I hope you enjoyed our show. 00:27:50.87\00:27:52.81 May God bless you abundantly. 00:27:53.09\00:27:55.81 In the meantime, pick up that phone 00:27:56.15\00:27:57.84 and give us a call at: 00:27:57.85\00:27:59.03 May the Lord bless you. 00:28:03.03\00:28:04.63
