So, you get used to it 00:02:16.92\00:02:21.06 because it sneaks upon you 00:02:21.07\00:02:22.08 and you forget how it feels good. 00:02:22.41\00:02:25.05 Yeah. And you just put up with it 00:02:25.06\00:02:28.04 and you get power on to the pain 00:02:28.05\00:02:29.64 to the daily things you adjust to it. 00:02:29.65\00:02:32.19 You know you go to a King size catalog. 00:02:32.20\00:02:33.83 I can get off, I could get of with Glucophage 00:02:35.06\00:02:38.33 and the high blood pressure medicine, 00:02:38.34\00:02:39.81 due to what you learn here 00:02:41.27\00:02:43.37 and the diet and the exercise 00:02:43.38\00:02:44.75 and really look forward to that happening. 00:02:45.23\00:02:48.77 So Moe, it seems to me that you're just sick 00:02:51.26\00:02:55.83 and tired of being sick and tired. 00:02:55.84\00:02:57.56 That's exactly right. Why don't you elaborate 00:02:57.57\00:03:00.44 a little bit about our first interview, 00:03:00.45\00:03:03.11 tell us where you've come to from that point. 00:03:03.12\00:03:06.73 From that point very first thing of course 00:03:07.52\00:03:11.38 I've explained was the food here 00:03:11.39\00:03:12.97 and I think it was a great introduction. 00:03:13.82\00:03:16.60 I don't know that's planned that way or not but. 00:03:17.16\00:03:19.21 It's a great thing because 00:03:19.22\00:03:20.93 there's a little bit of fear of course 00:03:21.34\00:03:22.90 you know when you will first hear 00:03:22.91\00:03:24.33 the word vegan or whole plant, 00:03:24.34\00:03:26.95 whole food diet like that 00:03:28.49\00:03:29.90 and but I was taking it away right away 00:03:29.91\00:03:31.94 because it was a tasty lunch. 00:03:32.95\00:03:34.78 So that was a good introduction, 00:03:35.54\00:03:36.83 good, and so that fear kind of went away. 00:03:37.25\00:03:40.62 But what I've learned is that if you concentrate on 00:03:41.81\00:03:46.93 what's good for you and you actually do it 00:03:46.94\00:03:48.72 with the guidance of the people here it's easy. 00:03:49.25\00:03:52.52 It's much easier than I thought, 00:03:53.33\00:03:54.58 to get myself on a bicycle and ride 00:03:55.01\00:03:58.59 and walk in that beautiful area and the lectures 00:03:58.60\00:04:03.17 who really wants to be lectured usually right. 00:04:04.08\00:04:06.29 I mean that's another possible fear oh 00:04:06.30\00:04:08.75 I have to listen to lectures 00:04:08.76\00:04:10.86 but they gravely sank in. 00:04:11.27\00:04:13.85 They really, it's amazing, it took 2 or 3 for me 00:04:13.86\00:04:16.46 to listen and the good thing about the lectures 00:04:16.47\00:04:19.57 are that they are repaired from the 00:04:19.58\00:04:21.28 sense of the message that needs to come through 00:04:21.29\00:04:24.01 and it just sink in. 00:04:24.02\00:04:25.88 And it's just been a greater awakening, 00:04:26.28\00:04:28.33 all the things I've learned about the things 00:04:29.31\00:04:32.10 I've been eating and it's just eye opening. 00:04:32.11\00:04:35.70 Now because you are eating now 00:04:36.18\00:04:38.58 that you're expressed to us, 00:04:38.59\00:04:39.98 what is the change are you. 00:04:40.46\00:04:42.97 Well I've lost 12 pounds already probably on 14 00:04:44.71\00:04:49.07 if you count in today and wait yet tomorrow. 00:04:49.08\00:04:51.79 Which has been great, I got another 400 mark. 00:04:52.78\00:04:54.97 Oh congratulations. It's been about time 00:04:55.53\00:04:58.35 and the cholesterol's down, 00:04:59.49\00:05:02.74 stopped taking the medication the Glucophage 00:05:03.85\00:05:05.55 and the cholesterol 00:05:05.56\00:05:06.57 and the heart medication the last week. 00:05:06.58\00:05:08.19 So you stopped the diabetes medication? 00:05:08.47\00:05:10.82 Yup I went down to one pill on out of four 00:05:10.83\00:05:13.69 and out of five and one, 00:05:14.63\00:05:17.37 and then I've totally stopped heart medication, 00:05:18.91\00:05:22.05 blood pressure and the cholesterol medication 00:05:23.36\00:05:25.29 and my numbers are still lower than 00:05:25.70\00:05:27.15 when I got here without the medication. 00:05:27.16\00:05:29.37 So then you are doing fine basically. I've been great. 00:05:30.12\00:05:32.82 You don't need the medication. 00:05:32.83\00:05:33.92 No, no just need to continue this lifestyle. 00:05:34.31\00:05:37.42 Is there any one particular thing 00:05:38.71\00:05:40.59 that you think is most important? 00:05:40.60\00:05:42.93 Dr. Lukens said something that really stuck with me 00:05:44.41\00:05:46.73 and said if you don't wanna exercise one day 00:05:46.74\00:05:49.20 that's fine, just don't eat. 00:05:49.21\00:05:50.32 And you know it can have that happen. 00:05:55.68\00:05:57.28 No. No. So yeah, what stuck with me is 00:05:57.29\00:06:01.66 it's not hard to prepare the food, it's tasty food. 00:06:01.67\00:06:06.36 The message that comes across 00:06:07.27\00:06:09.01 from the people here, like I tell you 00:06:09.73\00:06:12.32 I am very happy about how 00:06:12.33\00:06:15.20 the genuine care of the people here. 00:06:15.74\00:06:17.89 I've been to doctors where all it seems like 00:06:18.06\00:06:20.18 they want to do is just get you out of their office. 00:06:20.74\00:06:22.80 You're 5 minutes are up take another medication, 00:06:22.81\00:06:25.42 see you soon hopefully. Alright. 00:06:26.31\00:06:27.97 And that's basically I hate to say it like that 00:06:28.35\00:06:30.81 but that's kind of how it's been here, 00:06:30.82\00:06:32.78 the people here genuinely care. 00:06:33.58\00:06:35.49 I have never experienced something like that 00:06:35.83\00:06:37.27 in the medical field or anywhere ever, 00:06:37.28\00:06:39.26 you can just feel everybody in the 00:06:40.49\00:06:42.73 massage area, the doctors, the staff. 00:06:42.74\00:06:46.00 There is some real genuine care 00:06:46.77\00:06:48.14 for the heart and that's just huge. Yeah. 00:06:48.15\00:06:50.47 And that motivates, makes me wanna 00:06:50.48\00:06:53.74 do the program and it makes me 00:06:53.75\00:06:56.03 wanna continue the program. 00:06:56.04\00:06:57.23 And I have some serious goals. 00:06:58.05\00:06:59.64 Tell us what your goals are? 00:07:00.51\00:07:02.35 I wanna get down to 250 pounds in the next year, 00:07:02.72\00:07:05.07 I know it's gonna take that long 00:07:05.50\00:07:07.03 and it's not long you know it took me 00:07:07.39\00:07:09.14 six years to put it on, so a year to take it off 00:07:09.53\00:07:12.51 isn't that bad? And I wanna feel better 00:07:12.52\00:07:15.91 and get healthier and get rid of all the medications 00:07:15.92\00:07:18.77 and be able to do a much better show my music 00:07:19.54\00:07:22.38 and I have also must have been touched 00:07:22.39\00:07:25.10 by the spiritual part of this place. 00:07:25.11\00:07:26.94 Really; tell us about that, 00:07:27.41\00:07:28.66 I am interested in knowing about that. 00:07:28.67\00:07:30.26 You know I haven't had the affiliation much with, 00:07:30.60\00:07:33.66 I haven't been in touch with that side of my life 00:07:33.67\00:07:37.08 too much and my other side away for this 00:07:37.09\00:07:39.84 or the reason and that was a bit of fear too 00:07:39.85\00:07:44.01 about coming to a place where I know 00:07:44.37\00:07:46.61 God plays a big role. And I've been distant 00:07:46.62\00:07:50.83 from that for some unknown reason not for sure 00:07:50.84\00:07:53.16 to tell you the truth, but it's probably 00:07:53.17\00:07:54.95 much closer to that and actually for the first time 00:07:54.96\00:07:58.00 in my life I think so to give it way more thought, 00:07:58.01\00:08:01.37 because I feel the spirit with the people here. 00:08:01.85\00:08:04.26 Amen. That's not man made. 00:08:04.27\00:08:07.56 Right good, good. 00:08:07.57\00:08:09.38 So is there something that you can tell 00:08:10.31\00:08:13.59 our viewing audience that they might start today 00:08:13.60\00:08:17.40 that would help them, I mean you are 410 pounds 00:08:17.41\00:08:21.01 when you get here. Yeah. 00:08:21.02\00:08:22.09 You've lost about 15 pounds, 00:08:22.10\00:08:24.29 those people out there that weigh 250 00:08:24.63\00:08:26.89 that want to lose 20 pounds. Yeah. 00:08:26.90\00:08:29.33 That's not a big deal to you but to them it is. 00:08:29.34\00:08:32.33 It is and it's not easy. You have to stick 00:08:32.70\00:08:36.32 to the program and the most important thing 00:08:36.33\00:08:38.93 is what I learned here is 00:08:38.94\00:08:39.93 two thirds of the program is walking exercise. 00:08:39.94\00:08:43.34 And make it sport that you like you know 00:08:44.17\00:08:46.82 it's whether ride a bicycle or walk 00:08:46.83\00:08:48.61 or walk in area that you like. 00:08:48.62\00:08:49.82 So you can enjoy it and eat as much as you 00:08:50.22\00:08:53.77 want there's no starvation in this program. 00:08:53.78\00:08:57.02 Right. Eat the right foods, they're tasty, 00:08:57.46\00:08:59.62 what ever the dish, no problem about portions. 00:08:59.63\00:09:01.98 And stick with it and it just works, 00:09:02.73\00:09:07.27 it's not a diet. Correct. 00:09:07.28\00:09:09.70 It's a lifestyle program the way it's called 00:09:10.49\00:09:12.56 and it works great. Great. 00:09:12.57\00:09:14.52 Now you mentioned your music and I see that 00:09:14.93\00:09:17.33 you brought your guitar here, 00:09:17.34\00:09:19.17 can you get us just a short gestation on 00:09:20.04\00:09:23.74 what do you do with the guitar? 00:09:24.11\00:09:25.58 I am a blue singer and guitar player song writer 00:09:25.59\00:09:29.22 and I travel around the blue shows 00:09:29.23\00:09:32.58 and wanted to give you a little sample here of 00:09:32.59\00:09:35.76 a song that I wrote about my parents. 00:09:35.77\00:09:38.15 My ma and my daddy 00:09:45.23\00:09:47.67 worked themselves to their bone. 00:09:47.68\00:09:51.48 My ma and my daddy 00:09:54.37\00:09:56.77 worked themselves to their bone, 00:09:56.78\00:10:00.27 when the man from the bank came, 00:10:03.09\00:10:06.10 he wanted to foreclose our home. 00:10:06.11\00:10:09.21 Fantastic, thank you Mo. Say, well you came 00:12:56.71\00:12:58.42 to the right place. And so as you work with them, 00:12:58.43\00:13:02.08 as they make changes and they are activity 00:13:02.09\00:13:04.11 levels exercise and their food intake, 00:13:04.12\00:13:08.63 we find that those with diabetes their 00:13:08.64\00:13:12.34 blood sugars come down, their blood pressures 00:13:12.35\00:13:15.91 come down and in our experience 40% of the 00:13:15.92\00:13:19.72 people were type 2 diabetes are able to 00:13:19.73\00:13:23.95 have normal blood sugars, after they've adapted 00:13:23.96\00:13:27.37 the program within 3 months without having 00:13:27.38\00:13:29.34 using any medication. And even those who 00:13:29.35\00:13:31.70 still have to use some medication, 00:13:31.71\00:13:33.62 usually can get by with less medication and have 00:13:33.63\00:13:36.28 better control of their diabetes. 00:13:36.29\00:13:38.00 We have seen this time and time again. 00:13:38.01\00:13:40.15 That's right, you are telling me, you're telling 00:13:40.16\00:13:41.64 the audience here that all one needs to do 00:13:41.65\00:13:45.02 is change their lifestyles and they can get rid of 00:13:45.03\00:13:47.78 diabetes and high blood pressure, 00:13:47.79\00:13:49.88 losing weight itself. Well depending on 00:13:49.89\00:13:54.58 your definition of getting rid of diabetes, 00:13:54.59\00:13:56.99 if your definition means having 00:13:57.00\00:13:58.87 a normal blood sugar, yes then 40% of the 00:13:58.88\00:14:02.65 individuals with type 2 diabetes in our experience 00:14:02.66\00:14:05.86 have been able to have normal blood sugars 00:14:05.87\00:14:08.59 without having to use their medication 00:14:08.60\00:14:10.41 if they follow the guide lines that they 00:14:10.42\00:14:12.03 are given here. It's a matter of adjusting 00:14:12.04\00:14:15.48 their activity levels, adjusting their food 00:14:15.49\00:14:17.71 intake and you know it's changing their lifestyle 00:14:17.72\00:14:21.14 because basically most of the diseases which 00:14:21.15\00:14:24.06 people suffer from here in the United States 00:14:24.07\00:14:27.30 are related to their lifestyles you know. 00:14:27.31\00:14:29.40 Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, 00:14:29.41\00:14:33.03 high cholesterol, cancer and all of these 00:14:33.04\00:14:36.61 so called chronic diseases like even 00:14:36.62\00:14:39.73 arthritis are related to our lifestyles. 00:14:39.74\00:14:42.40 Do you have any statistics lately of the 00:14:42.41\00:14:48.23 number of, let's just start with diabetics. 00:14:48.24\00:14:51.03 Both pre-diabetic and diabetic people here 00:14:51.04\00:14:56.56 in this country? Well, according to the latest 00:14:56.57\00:15:00.51 information now, there is approximately 00:15:00.52\00:15:02.96 24 million people in the United States with 00:15:02.97\00:15:06.04 diabetes and probably 90% of these individuals 00:15:06.05\00:15:11.49 have type 2 diabetes and type 2 diabetes is very 00:15:11.50\00:15:16.26 closely related with lifestyle and we're finding 00:15:16.27\00:15:19.49 even teenagers are developing type 2 00:15:19.50\00:15:23.88 diabetes and that's related to the problem 00:15:23.89\00:15:27.10 we have with teenagers being obsessed 00:15:27.11\00:15:28.83 and the epidemic of obesity we have in teenagers. 00:15:28.84\00:15:31.82 And the incidence throughout the number 00:15:31.83\00:15:35.31 of cases of diabetes in US is also related to 00:15:35.32\00:15:38.56 if you want to call it, the fattening of America. 00:15:38.57\00:15:42.67 Now there is two thirds of adult Americans 00:15:42.68\00:15:45.83 are overweight and as Americans become 00:15:45.84\00:15:49.46 more and more over weight, 00:15:49.47\00:15:50.98 of course your risk of diabetes goes up, 00:15:50.99\00:15:53.32 your risk for heart disease goes up, 00:15:53.33\00:15:55.11 higher blood pressure. Is there anything 00:15:55.12\00:15:56.99 specifically that as a doctor that you 00:15:57.00\00:15:59.97 do to the guest that come to Weimar, 00:15:59.98\00:16:03.26 the Newstart program, any thing that you do, 00:16:03.27\00:16:07.85 any kind of medication that you give them? 00:16:07.86\00:16:09.82 I think probably the main medication you give them 00:16:10.84\00:16:14.18 is hope. You know as we work with them 00:16:14.19\00:16:17.61 they find that with simple changes 00:16:17.62\00:16:20.81 in their activity, simple changes in their 00:16:20.82\00:16:23.18 food intake. Wonderful things happen as far as 00:16:23.19\00:16:27.57 their pain levels go, as far as their 00:16:27.58\00:16:29.66 cholesterol go, their blood sugar levels go 00:16:29.67\00:16:32.42 and they're just you know really overjoyed. 00:16:32.43\00:16:35.47 And also those who are what most people 00:16:35.48\00:16:39.01 call overweight, I call them too short. 00:16:39.02\00:16:41.80 They find that they are able to lose weight as well 00:16:41.81\00:16:45.46 and it's remarkable how fast this can happen. 00:16:45.47\00:16:49.04 Now is it pretty common as Mo said that after 00:16:49.05\00:16:54.11 just a few days, he was taken off of certain 00:16:54.12\00:16:57.04 medications. Does this happen quite frequently? 00:16:57.05\00:16:59.85 This happens very frequently those who 00:16:59.86\00:17:01.94 come in with diabetes, we start to have to 00:17:01.95\00:17:05.53 decrease their medicines and stop some of them 00:17:05.54\00:17:08.39 because if we don't the blood sugars will 00:17:08.40\00:17:10.52 go too low. So this is very, something that 00:17:10.53\00:17:13.87 we're very aware of and we work for the patients 00:17:13.88\00:17:16.91 and monitor them carefully so that they do well. 00:17:16.92\00:17:19.87 So you monitor them as the Fredder say 00:17:19.88\00:17:22.81 you monitor every day, doing blood test 00:17:22.82\00:17:26.98 and how does that happen? Well, with the patients 00:17:26.99\00:17:30.31 who have diabetes we have them check their 00:17:30.32\00:17:32.08 blood sugar or blood glucose levels at least 00:17:32.09\00:17:35.23 four times a day and as their sugar levels change, 00:17:35.24\00:17:39.73 we adjust their medication as is necessary. 00:17:39.74\00:17:42.88 Oh wonderful, now what about the food, 00:17:42.89\00:17:46.49 you mentioned the certain foods, 00:17:46.50\00:17:48.47 is there a certain type of food that you recommend 00:17:48.48\00:17:51.82 for people with diabetes and cardio vascular 00:17:51.83\00:17:54.94 disease and such? Well, we have 5 words which 00:17:54.95\00:17:58.38 we used to describe the foods that people should 00:17:58.39\00:18:02.54 choose and those five words are whole plant 00:18:02.55\00:18:06.79 foods eaten whole. Very simple, whole plant 00:18:06.80\00:18:11.61 foods eat in whole, five words, five letters 00:18:11.62\00:18:15.86 for each word but if you use those five words 00:18:15.87\00:18:19.03 to govern your food choices, you are going 00:18:19.04\00:18:22.99 to have a lot better health, your cholesterol 00:18:23.00\00:18:25.07 if it is high will usually go down. 00:18:25.08\00:18:27.67 It will help individuals who are too short, 00:18:27.68\00:18:30.30 overweight to lose weight and you know 00:18:30.31\00:18:34.11 it's remarkable how simple food choices 00:18:34.12\00:18:37.40 make a profound difference. 00:18:37.41\00:18:38.66 Not only the food that they eat but how often 00:18:38.67\00:18:41.38 they eat and when they eat makes a 00:18:41.39\00:18:42.98 difference as well. So we found that with those 00:18:42.99\00:18:45.86 who are overweight, one of the things that helps 00:18:45.87\00:18:49.30 them to lose weight very nicely is eliminating 00:18:49.31\00:18:53.50 their evening meal. You can have a breakfast 00:18:53.51\00:18:55.96 in a lunch, we prefer that they get the food 00:18:55.97\00:18:58.19 in before, now their food intake be completed 00:18:58.20\00:19:00.89 by the latest at 3 O'clock in the afternoon 00:19:00.90\00:19:04.03 and that when they make these adjustments. 00:19:04.04\00:19:06.55 It's a lot easier for them to lose weight 00:19:06.56\00:19:09.39 because if we eat later in the day. 00:19:09.40\00:19:11.17 We eat a larger evening meal as is the custom 00:19:11.18\00:19:13.84 here in the United States, I'm not sure you're 00:19:13.85\00:19:16.38 going to go out and exercise and burn up 00:19:16.39\00:19:19.51 or use up those calories it's got to be stored. 00:19:19.52\00:19:22.44 It's either going to be stored in our cells 00:19:22.45\00:19:24.43 or the liver as glycogen and if those areas are 00:19:24.44\00:19:29.33 already filled then it's gonna be stored as fat. 00:19:29.34\00:19:32.49 And fat's a three letter word that most 00:19:32.50\00:19:35.55 people don't like. Now do you work with doctors 00:19:35.56\00:19:39.39 outside of the Newstart program for instance 00:19:39.40\00:19:43.50 Mo's doctor before he got here. 00:19:43.51\00:19:46.15 You need some sort of clearance for anyone to 00:19:46.16\00:19:49.52 come the program here. Well you know if the 00:19:49.53\00:19:52.09 doctor wants to talk us, we're happy to talk 00:19:52.10\00:19:54.19 with the doctor. We request that 00:19:54.20\00:19:57.71 the patients bring as much information about 00:19:57.72\00:20:00.34 their medical history and 00:20:00.35\00:20:01.47 what they have been doing. 00:20:01.48\00:20:02.71 You know any diagnostic test and lab work with in 00:20:02.72\00:20:05.37 when they come but sometimes people 00:20:05.38\00:20:08.61 of a kind, they don't have any of those things. 00:20:08.62\00:20:10.71 But we do a thorough evaluation of the patient 00:20:10.72\00:20:13.18 and advice them what appropriate measures they 00:20:13.19\00:20:17.35 need to implement in their life to get the 00:20:17.36\00:20:20.97 improvement that they desire. 00:20:20.98\00:20:22.43 Well I'm hearing a lot of information from 00:20:23.23\00:20:26.50 various people, almost like there is 00:20:26.51\00:20:28.69 miracles that actually takes place there. 00:20:28.70\00:20:30.81 Is it fair to say that most people who come to 00:20:31.22\00:20:33.37 the program actually get better, 00:20:33.38\00:20:36.44 meaning their energy goes up, 00:20:36.45\00:20:39.62 they lose weight; they might be taken off 00:20:39.63\00:20:41.85 certain medications. Does that work for 00:20:41.86\00:20:43.93 everyone that comes for the program? 00:20:43.94\00:20:45.37 I think well when you say does it work for most 00:20:45.38\00:20:47.66 people I would say unequivocally yes, 00:20:47.67\00:20:50.04 it does work for most people. 00:20:50.05\00:20:51.45 If it works for everyone I would no, 00:20:52.43\00:20:54.55 not everyone, not a 100%. But there again, 00:20:54.56\00:20:57.78 the more carefully the patients follow the 00:20:57.79\00:21:00.93 suggestions and advice the better they do. 00:21:00.94\00:21:02.84 Because we also realize we have some of our 00:21:03.44\00:21:05.83 patients have cancer and other things and 00:21:05.84\00:21:08.12 sometimes when they come with cancer, 00:21:08.13\00:21:10.23 they're really what are preterminal medical, 00:21:10.24\00:21:15.34 you know medical science has given up and they 00:21:15.35\00:21:17.36 say you know there is no hope, 00:21:17.37\00:21:18.50 there is nothing we can do for you, 00:21:18.51\00:21:19.75 go on home, enjoy yourself and do what you can. 00:21:19.76\00:21:23.41 Well Dr. Ing, I really like to thank you this 00:21:24.70\00:21:26.73 time for joining us here our studio and I 00:21:26.74\00:21:30.20 appreciate the work you're doing at the 00:21:30.21\00:21:31.88 Newstart program and we'll look forward in 00:21:31.89\00:21:36.03 the future for another interview perhaps. 00:21:36.04\00:21:38.59 It's great to be here, thank you very much Ron. 00:21:38.60\00:21:40.93 Yes, and thank you folks, thank you for joining 00:21:40.94\00:21:44.23 us once again, we look forward to seeing 00:21:44.24\00:21:46.83 you next week, good night. 00:21:46.84\00:21:49.07 Hi and welcome, my name is Cathy 00:22:03.61\00:22:05.29 and today we have with us Pastor Jim Brackett. 00:22:05.30\00:22:08.09 Pastor Brackett, you taught college nutrition 00:22:08.10\00:22:10.19 for 10 years, there must be a lot of 00:22:10.20\00:22:11.88 exciting things you can share with us 00:22:11.89\00:22:13.46 about nutrition. Well it's so fascinating, 00:22:13.47\00:22:16.38 because the world of the cell and getting 00:22:16.39\00:22:19.49 nutrients from our food, that whole thing is just 00:22:19.50\00:22:22.90 so fascinating. It's just marvelous, 00:22:22.91\00:22:25.50 the mechanics and the transport and the 00:22:25.51\00:22:28.91 of course the digestion and absorption. 00:22:28.92\00:22:31.28 It's just endless, I mean you can get 00:22:31.29\00:22:33.05 PhDs in the most new area and still we're 00:22:33.06\00:22:36.30 scratching the surface. Wow, wow. 00:22:36.31\00:22:37.69 But one of the things that I'm always enjoy 00:22:38.53\00:22:42.75 helping audiences understand is this issue 00:22:42.76\00:22:45.45 of what we call fiber. Okay. 00:22:45.46\00:22:47.23 And I have people do it with me just for fun, 00:22:47.24\00:22:51.04 I have been put their fingers together like 00:22:51.05\00:22:53.31 this and then draw their fingers toward their 00:22:53.32\00:22:55.63 hand like that and I say that's how much 00:22:55.64\00:22:58.22 fiber is in all animal products. 00:22:58.23\00:23:01.03 How much? Nothing. Zero, zero, 00:23:03.07\00:23:05.92 it doesn't matter if it's milk or cheese or eggs 00:23:05.93\00:23:10.72 or fish or foul or any kind, 00:23:10.73\00:23:12.64 there will be zero fiber. Now fiber comes in 00:23:12.65\00:23:15.53 two broad categories, we call it soluble and 00:23:15.54\00:23:18.78 insoluble. And the insoluble fiber, 00:23:18.79\00:23:22.82 when it gets mixed with water, it doesn't, 00:23:24.21\00:23:28.22 I am sorry, the soluble fiber 00:23:28.23\00:23:30.85 when it gets mixed with water it doesn't dissolve 00:23:30.86\00:23:32.81 like sugar would in a glass of lemonade or 00:23:32.82\00:23:37.38 something, but it absorbs the water and makes 00:23:37.39\00:23:40.17 a gelatinous slurry. This is in the 00:23:40.18\00:23:44.12 small intestine and the purpose of that 00:23:44.13\00:23:49.78 gelatinous slurry is to slow the movement of the 00:23:49.79\00:23:53.06 nutrients. It's like if everybody was in a 00:23:53.07\00:23:55.89 swimming pool, playing volleyball 00:23:55.90\00:23:58.27 or something and somebody said everybody out of 00:23:58.28\00:24:00.17 the pool. They could all quickly get over to the 00:24:00.18\00:24:02.51 steps and climb out, but if the pool was full 00:24:02.52\00:24:04.30 of molasses, it will take a while to get out. 00:24:04.31\00:24:07.87 So the analogy is that you have a meal and 00:24:09.12\00:24:12.09 the time it takes for the meal to be digested 00:24:12.10\00:24:15.33 and absorbed is too brief for when there is no 00:24:15.34\00:24:19.59 fiber there. Okay. And however if the 00:24:19.60\00:24:22.65 fiber is there it might take 5 or 6 hours for all 00:24:22.66\00:24:26.47 this and there are many ramifications of that. 00:24:26.48\00:24:29.30 One is that Americans have an unrefined, 00:24:30.12\00:24:33.50 a refined diet and in terms of carbohydrates 00:24:33.51\00:24:38.98 and so these carbohydrates are digested up into 00:24:38.99\00:24:43.26 sugars and the sugars get into the blood 00:24:43.27\00:24:45.43 stream rapidly because there is no fiber there 00:24:45.44\00:24:48.01 and they get these big sugar spikes and then 00:24:48.02\00:24:49.92 they get these big sugar drops. 00:24:49.93\00:24:51.63 And they know exactly what to do when that 00:24:52.24\00:24:53.99 drop occurs, just have a piece of pie or doughnut 00:24:54.00\00:24:57.19 or something and they get another spike and then 00:24:57.20\00:24:59.24 they get another drop and so this is the 00:24:59.25\00:25:02.60 condition known as what people call it 00:25:02.61\00:25:04.85 hypoglycemia, but what we use in the 00:25:04.86\00:25:08.81 clinic is reactive hypoglycemia, 00:25:08.82\00:25:12.15 that is to say the body is reacting the way you 00:25:12.16\00:25:14.30 are treating it. If fiber is present, 00:25:14.31\00:25:16.63 the sugar is delivered slowly to the blood steam 00:25:17.84\00:25:20.32 and the sugar rises slightly after as the 00:25:20.33\00:25:22.89 meal's being digested and it kind of starts to 00:25:22.90\00:25:25.00 fall slightly and the body can completely control 00:25:25.01\00:25:27.76 that very easily. Yeah. This reacting 00:25:27.77\00:25:29.85 hypoglycemia is the forerunner to diabetes, 00:25:29.86\00:25:34.28 it is one of the contributing factors 00:25:34.29\00:25:36.44 we don't exactly know the mechanism but it's 00:25:36.45\00:25:39.92 real common and people come to our classes and 00:25:39.93\00:25:45.46 we feed them plant based diet, 00:25:45.47\00:25:46.76 so they can get well and they look at this 00:25:46.77\00:25:48.36 breakfast and they think, I'm gonna get my M&Ms, 00:25:48.37\00:25:51.13 I am gonna be hungry pretty soon, 00:25:51.14\00:25:52.91 they can't believe it. Yes. It's not that there 00:25:52.92\00:25:55.10 is not enough food there, but they look at it 00:25:55.11\00:25:56.77 but come on you know that breakfast at 7 O'clock 00:25:56.78\00:25:59.89 and then by 1 O'clock. They are hardly hungry, 00:25:59.90\00:26:02.96 they can't believe it. Yes. Because the fibers 00:26:02.97\00:26:06.07 see has made it digest slowly. 00:26:06.08\00:26:08.08 Yes. Which is what the body really needs, 00:26:08.09\00:26:10.76 now the unsoluble fiber, it provides bulk and 00:26:11.32\00:26:16.70 that's a whole another question maybe we can 00:26:16.71\00:26:18.63 get into sometime in terms of the health of the 00:26:18.64\00:26:20.90 colon without that present. 00:26:20.91\00:26:22.75 It's a very interesting topic. 00:26:22.76\00:26:24.38 But this is absent in all animal products and in 00:26:25.09\00:26:28.58 most of what Americans eat from plants from 00:26:28.59\00:26:32.05 the store in a box or a bag is also without it, 00:26:32.06\00:26:35.58 almost completely. Yes. Americans are just, 00:26:35.59\00:26:38.60 it's just insane the way we treat our bodies. 00:26:38.61\00:26:41.39 Create that sad diet, don't we? 00:26:41.40\00:26:42.96 It really is too bad. Right now that most 00:26:42.97\00:26:44.14 people really need the information about 00:26:44.15\00:26:45.63 the fiber. It's really very very important 00:26:45.64\00:26:47.42 you see it on cereal box and every thing. 00:26:47.43\00:26:48.88 Well for those of you who would like more 00:26:48.89\00:26:50.84 information on fiber and the importance of fiber, 00:26:50.85\00:26:53.69 please visit our website at www.newstart.com, 00:26:53.70\00:26:56.64 thank you for joining us and thank you 00:26:56.65\00:26:58.31 pastor Brackett for being here with us 00:26:58.32\00:26:59.52 and sharing that information. 00:26:59.53\00:27:00.80 Hi, I hope you have enjoyed as much as I have 00:27:09.16\00:27:11.08 this edition of Newstart Now. 00:27:11.09\00:27:13.03 I am Jim Brackett, Executive Vice President 00:27:13.60\00:27:15.84 here at the Weimar Center.
