Do you guys know 00:11:49.67\00:11:52.84 where South Korea is? 00:11:52.84\00:11:55.58 No? Some of you do. Well, this girl lived in South Korea, and 00:11:55.61\00:12:01.18 unfortunately, she was from a very poor family. Now, most six-year-olds don't really know 00:12:01.18\00:12:07.22 when their family's poor because they're just happy to play and let their parents deal with 00:12:07.22\00:12:12.23 all the stress of being poor. But this little six-year-old 00:12:12.23\00:12:16.67 girl really did not like being poor. And the reason was her teachers at school were not nice 00:12:16.67\00:12:22.90 to kids that were poor. They would treat kids that weren't poor, that were rich, 00:12:22.90\00:12:27.98 very nicely and very well. But all of the poor kids just weren't treated that well, 00:12:27.98\00:12:34.52 weren't treated very nicely. So she really did not like being 00:12:34.52\00:12:39.42 poor. Now, this little girl came from a Buddhist family, so her mom would sometimes 00:12:39.42\00:12:44.56 take her to the Buddhist temple and she would watch her pray and do all the things that 00:12:44.56\00:12:50.63 you do in a Buddhist temple. But even though she was Buddhist, 00:12:50.63\00:12:55.07 this little six-year-old girl really liked going to church. There was a small tent 00:12:55.07\00:13:00.78 at the end of her street, and the people there would give the neighborhood kids chocolate 00:13:00.78\00:13:07.18 and then sing Bible songs with them and tell them Bible 00:13:07.18\00:13:11.35 stories. And she loved to attend whenever she had the chance. So she would attend church there 00:13:11.35\00:13:17.46 in that little tent. But then, one day, the church disappeared. 00:13:17.46\00:13:21.73 So she didn't have a place to go anymore. She was about eight 00:13:21.73\00:13:25.47 years old at this time. So she decided to go find another 00:13:25.47\00:13:30.14 church to attend. So she walked around her town, and then she finally found a building in 00:13:30.14\00:13:34.78 which a church congregation met. So she decided to go there instead of the little tent 00:13:34.78\00:13:39.05 she used to go to. Now, remember, she didn't like being 00:13:39.05\00:13:44.65 poor, right? And the reason was because people weren't nice to her because she was poor. 00:13:44.65\00:13:48.76 Well, unfortunately, this church that she started going to had 00:13:48.76\00:13:54.20 church members that did that very thing. They weren't nice to people that were poor. 00:13:54.20\00:13:59.00 And she saw this as an eight-year-old and she really 00:13:59.00\00:14:03.54 did not like it. So she decided to stop going to church. But the 00:14:03.54\00:14:07.58 thing is, she was sad about that. So she prayed and she said, "God, I want to go to 00:14:07.58\00:14:13.85 church, but I will go when you show me the right church. So 00:14:13.85\00:14:17.32 please show me the right church so I can go there." And, so, she forgot about that prayer as she 00:14:17.32\00:14:24.13 was growing up because a lot of other things happened to her. She went to a Christian high 00:14:24.13\00:14:28.50 school, but unfortunately, the teachers in that Christian high school did the same thing. 00:14:28.50\00:14:33.70 They just weren't nice to poor kids. So that lessened her 00:14:33.70\00:14:38.44 esteem of Christianity even more. And then, something really sad happened when she was 15. 00:14:38.44\00:14:45.15 Her dad had a heart attack. And when her dad was in the 00:14:45.15\00:14:50.72 hospital, she prayed and said, "God, if you're there, please, please save my dad." 00:14:50.72\00:14:56.09 But unfortunately, her dad passed away. And, so, after 00:14:56.09\00:15:00.56 that, she lost all interest in going to church and tried to 00:15:00.56\00:15:06.23 drown her pain with distractions, music, having fun with friends. And this went on 00:15:06.23\00:15:12.57 for another seven years. But even though she forgot about the 00:15:12.57\00:15:17.55 prayer she prayed when she was eight years old, God didn't forget. And when she was 22 00:15:17.55\00:15:23.25 years old, she met a very interesting boy. Now, this boy was from America, so he wasn't 00:15:23.25\00:15:30.89 Korean. And he stood out very much among the people in her town since there were no 00:15:30.89\00:15:36.20 foreigners at that time. And this boy really liked this 00:15:36.20\00:15:40.97 little girl. He thought she was very pretty. So he wanted to date her. And this little girl 00:15:40.97\00:15:47.21 wanted to learn English. So she decided, yeah, I'll date him just so I can learn English. 00:15:47.21\00:15:53.92 Well, she noticed that a lot of things were different about this 00:15:53.92\00:15:58.89 boy. First off, he didn't drink. He didn't stay up late at night going to clubs and parties. 00:15:58.89\00:16:07.03 He was vegetarian and he was nice to everybody, even to the 00:16:07.03\00:16:13.00 poor people. And he treated everybody the same. So she thought this boy was 00:16:13.00\00:16:16.44 a very nice boy. She started to like him more. Well, one day, 00:16:16.44\00:16:21.61 they were in a park together, and they started talking about religion. And this boy said, 00:16:21.61\00:16:28.02 "Well, I go to church on Saturday." When the girl heard that, she was like, "That's 00:16:28.02\00:16:33.76 strange. What kind of weird religion is this guy in?" But 00:16:33.76\00:16:38.16 the boy said, "It's not weird at all." And he went to the Bible and showed her in the Bible 00:16:38.16\00:16:41.56 where it says that we should worship on the seventh day of 00:16:41.56\00:16:45.57 the week. And as soon as she saw that, the prayer she had prayed 00:16:45.57\00:16:50.34 14 years before, when she was eight years old, came to her mind. And she knew in that 00:16:50.34\00:16:54.91 moment that God was answering her prayer and showing her which was the right church to go to. 00:16:54.91\00:17:00.38 So she started studying with the boy, and eventually, she became 00:17:00.38\00:17:05.25 an Adventist. And eventually, she married that boy. And her 00:17:05.25\00:17:10.13 family -- her mom, her sister, her brother -- all became Adventist with time. And I know 00:17:10.13\00:17:17.47 this little girl is very happy that she found God because that little girl is my mom. 00:17:17.47\00:17:23.61 And because of her prayer when she was eight years old, I had 00:17:23.61\00:17:28.61 the privilege of growing up as Adventist and knowing Jesus. So, boys and girls, even though 00:17:28.61\00:17:33.28 sometimes it seems like God has forgotten all about your prayer, 00:17:33.28\00:17:38.72 he never forgets. And he's just waiting for the right time, the 00:17:38.72\00:17:42.32 right person to answer your prayer, especially when he knows that it will be a blessing 00:17:42.32\00:17:45.59 to many people. Do I have a volunteer for prayer? 00:17:45.59\00:17:49.56 Would anyone like to pray for me? 00:17:49.56\00:17:52.20 >> Dear Jesus, thank you that we are here. Thanks to that Baptist farmer 00:23:34.24\00:23:43.05 turned preacher, William Miller. Entire cities up and down the 00:23:43.05\00:23:48.92 Eastern seaboard had been set ablaze by -- You can go and Google it. The Millerite 00:23:48.92\00:23:53.70 revival, the Millerite movement. Men and women and children scrambling because the Bible 00:23:53.70\00:23:59.90 date had finally been calculated to everybody's satisfaction. Miller believed that 00:23:59.90\00:24:04.21 Daniel 8:14 -- that was his key text -- "the sanctuary shall be cleansed," he says. 00:24:04.21\00:24:08.08 That's the return of Jesus. This planet will be ablaze in flame, 00:24:08.08\00:24:14.98 and that's it. We don't understand that. We don't understand that kind of urgency, 00:24:14.98\00:24:19.55 do we? I mean, look at you and me. So sophisticated, so suave. Our collection of toys 00:24:19.55\00:24:27.86 and trinkets and things of this world freighted and pinning us 00:24:27.86\00:24:33.20 to the Earth. Who even thinks about Jesus coming soon anymore? 00:24:33.20\00:24:38.84 Not you. Not me. But they did. My, oh, my. Maybe what we need 00:24:38.84\00:24:46.68 is what King Hezekiah faced. Instant annihilation in hours. 00:24:46.68\00:24:54.26 Maybe we need a sense of urgency. Maybe we need something to cut us loose from everything 00:24:54.26\00:24:57.76 that's weighting us down. I tell you what, the air is hot with 00:24:57.76\00:25:06.30 high-wire tension. This drama that we turn to right now. Bad 00:25:06.30\00:25:12.97 news for the king. And by the way, when the news is really, really bad, I mean, when you get 00:25:12.97\00:25:17.75 a phone call at 2:00 in the morning. When the doctor says, "We need to sit down. 00:25:17.75\00:25:21.72 I want to talk about the results to your tests." When the lawyer 00:25:21.72\00:25:27.29 calls, when the police call. May I 00:25:36.16\00:25:45.61 suggest that this panicked king may have found what we need, as well. Open your Bible, please, 00:25:45.61\00:25:49.88 to Isaiah chapter 37. Let's go. Come on. Dramatic to the core. 00:25:49.88\00:25:54.15 Isaiah 37. We'll begin in verse one. Isaiah 37. 00:25:54.15\00:25:58.45 I'm in the NIV. Whatever Bible you have, just open it up. 00:25:58.45\00:26:01.29 Let's go together. Isaiah 37. And here it is. 00:26:01.29\00:26:09.26 "When King Hezekiah heard this".... He received a message, 00:26:09.26\00:26:15.10 FedEx'd to him from the commander of 185,000 crack warriors who now are suffocating 00:26:15.10\00:26:23.24 his church in their siege. Here comes the note. "Surrender or 00:26:23.24\00:26:29.02 you're dead." "Surrender or you're dead." The enemy has always worked -- have you 00:26:38.76\00:26:43.37 noticed this? -- always thought by intimidation. That's the way. And here's the FedEx message 00:26:43.37\00:26:49.04 right here. 00:26:49.04\00:26:50.54 Rubbish. 00:26:58.61\00:27:00.32 Nope, nope, nope. "Surrender or you're dead." Intimidation. 00:27:08.19\00:27:13.93 New Testament, 1 Peter 5:8... 00:27:13.93\00:27:15.80 Do you know why a lion roars? Paralyzes prey. You can't run. 00:27:23.10\00:27:29.41 You're pinned. Gotcha. Intimidation. 00:27:29.41\00:27:34.05 "Be alert and of a sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion 00:27:34.05\00:27:38.79 looking for someone to devour." Wesley Duewel, in his stirring 00:27:38.79\00:27:44.89 masterpiece. Oh, I wish I could give this book to everybody sitting in this sanctuary right 00:27:44.89\00:27:48.10 now. You'd get one from me. Stirring masterpiece. Mighty 00:27:48.10\00:27:53.03 prevailing prayer. Here he goes. "Many Christians have a morbid fear of the devil." 00:27:53.03\00:27:58.51 You may be in that camp. 00:27:58.51\00:28:00.84 Martin Luther, that great, "A Mighty Fortress" hymn. And in 00:28:12.59\00:28:18.66 our opening music, our organist bringing back those refrains. There's a line tucked away 00:28:18.66\00:28:22.40 in "A Mighty Fortress" that goes like this. "And lo, his doom is 00:28:22.40\00:28:29.14 sure." But he still fights. He knows he's lost the war. 00:28:32.77\00:28:37.75 Calvary's clear. You lose, loser. In fact, Colossians 2:15 declares that Jesus made a 00:28:37.75\00:28:43.28 public spectacle of the enemy, the powers and authorities, the 00:28:43.28\00:28:48.02 devil himself, and conquered him at the cross. Lucifer has been 00:28:48.02\00:28:52.89 shamed at Calvary for the rest of his existence. No, he knows he's lost the war. But guess 00:28:52.89\00:28:57.47 what? There are still the little battles. And that's where you 00:28:57.47\00:29:00.34 and I fit in. There's still the little skirmishes, and his strategy is in furious 00:29:00.34\00:29:04.64 desperation to take as many of us with him into oblivion as is humanly and diabolically 00:29:04.64\00:29:09.71 possible. "Come on, girl. I'm getting you, boy. Surrender or 00:29:09.71\00:29:17.59 you're dead." Duewel goes on, "As a created being" -- speaking of Satan -- "he is limited in 00:29:17.59\00:29:22.69 power. Only God is all-powerful. As a created being, he is limited in knowledge. 00:29:22.69\00:29:27.20 Only God has all-knowledge." And here's a little bracketed line. 00:29:27.20\00:29:30.20 "The devil cannot read your mind." I stuck that in there. 00:29:30.20\00:29:34.64 Some people are absolutely intimidated by the devil. Do you 00:29:34.64\00:29:37.97 know that he can't read your mind? He cannot read your mind. The angels can, the Holy Spirit, 00:29:37.97\00:29:41.98 of course, all the time is tracking you through your mind. But the devil cannot 00:29:41.98\00:29:45.78 read your mind. Oh, don't be fooled. He may not 00:29:45.78\00:29:50.39 be able to read your mind, but he can read your face. And when 00:29:50.39\00:29:55.49 you walk past that second piece of chocolate cake... he watches 00:29:55.49\00:30:02.70 your eyes. And those eyes light up. He watches. He can see your 00:30:02.70\00:30:06.53 taste buds. And when they start squirting, he says, "She's ready to go. Move in for the kill. 00:30:06.53\00:30:10.44 Go for the second one. Come on, girl. Go, go, go." No, it's 00:30:10.44\00:30:17.41 brilliant. He can't read your mind, but he can tell what 00:30:17.41\00:30:20.75 you're thinking. He can tell just by watching you. He's hung 00:30:20.75\00:30:23.39 around you just long enough, yeah. Okay. "As a created being, he is limited in presence. 00:30:23.39\00:30:29.79 Only God is everywhere present." You don't have Satan on you. Somewhere on this planet, 00:30:29.79\00:30:34.93 there's a bigger battle than you or me right now, and he's there. 00:30:34.93\00:30:39.40 But if you start giving him resistance, another little demon that's been assigned to you is 00:30:39.40\00:30:43.14 calling for help and there's a second demon brought in, and 00:30:43.14\00:30:46.17 that is more help. And by the way, help's coming from the other side. He may one day 00:30:46.17\00:30:50.18 be on your doorstep saying, "I'm going to get this girl, I'm 00:30:50.18\00:30:53.92 going to kill her. I'm going to kill him this time." Don't 00:30:53.92\00:30:59.89 minimize him. You don't have to live intimidated. But don't minimize our enemy. 00:30:59.89\00:31:06.63 My, my, my, my, my, my. Luther wrote in his song. "For still 00:31:06.63\00:31:11.90 our ancient foe Doth seek to work us woe; His craft and power are great, And, armed with cruel 00:31:11.90\00:31:17.11 hate, On earth is not his equal." There's nobody that can 00:31:17.11\00:31:21.01 match him. Not you, boy. You are no match for him. Give it up. 00:31:21.01\00:31:25.51 You are no match for him. No wonder Paul, himself an intrepid warrior for Christ, 00:31:25.51\00:31:32.59 described it this way, read just a moment ago by my young friend, 00:31:32.59\00:31:37.93 John. Ephesians 6:12. 00:31:37.93\00:31:39.66 Those who study heavenly cosmology, or we could call it 00:31:50.27\00:31:54.64 angel cosmology, you know, the order of things, all agree that verses like these remind us 00:31:54.64\00:32:00.95 of a multitiered hierarchy and thus alert us to the fact that both sides -- light, God; 00:32:00.95\00:32:12.86 darkness, fallen Lucifer -- both sides are armed to the teeth and organized to the hilt. 00:32:12.86\00:32:23.07 Nobody's dinking around in this battle. The only people dinking 00:32:23.07\00:32:26.04 around in this battle are you and me. They got this thing down 00:32:26.04\00:32:30.81 to a science. "Kill her." "I need help." "Go." 00:32:30.81\00:32:33.65 "I need more." "Go." 00:32:33.65\00:32:36.62 But in any case -- and always hallelujah -- God and his angel 00:32:41.22\00:32:45.29 armies rule the day and night. Can I get an amen to that? They rule the day and the night, 00:32:45.29\00:32:49.13 but poor King Hezekiah. My, my, my. Surrender or you are dead. 00:32:49.13\00:32:55.40 But watch this. In the strategic battle plan of the divine, 00:32:55.40\00:32:58.67 Hezekiah seizes one weapon that's available to you and it's 00:32:58.67\00:33:03.85 available to me. And if we will simply seize it as he did, we 00:33:03.85\00:33:11.02 shall win. Watch. Chapter 37, a few verses later. So he's torn his garments, he's in the 00:33:11.02\00:33:15.62 temple. Here we go, and "Hezekiah received that letter from the messengers and read it" 00:33:15.62\00:33:18.93 -- surrender or you're dead -- "then he went up to the temple of the Lord and he spread it out 00:33:18.93\00:33:23.60 before the Lord." I love this. He comes to the front 00:33:23.60\00:33:25.50 of the church, nobody's there. He spreads out that FedEx, and 00:33:25.50\00:33:32.17 he says, "My God." That's exactly what he says. And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord. 00:33:32.17\00:33:37.65 "Lord Almighty." Now the New International Version, God bless them, they just didn't like 00:33:37.65\00:33:41.12 "Lord of Hosts." I think it's to their loss. They decided we 00:33:41.12\00:33:45.45 won't call this "sabaoth," we'll just call it "Almighty." But it's really the Lord of 00:33:45.45\00:33:50.13 Angel armies. And we need to be reminded He commands angel 00:33:50.13\00:33:55.73 armies. And they're on your side. Do you understand that? "Lord Almighty" -- Lord Sabaoth, 00:33:55.73\00:34:01.34 Adonai Sabaoth -- "the God of Israel, enthroned between the 00:34:01.34\00:34:06.84 cherubim" -- What are cherubim? Angels. The highest of high angels. "Enthroned between the 00:34:06.84\00:34:12.58 cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the Earth. You have made Heaven and Earth." 00:34:12.58\00:34:17.95 That is an absolutely beautiful Adventist prayer. Did you notice 00:34:17.95\00:34:22.46 that? First of all, it's talking about the Creator God. We serve only one Creator God. 00:34:22.46\00:34:26.53 He's the creator of Heaven and Earth. 00:34:26.53\00:34:30.20 That's why, as a Seventh Day Adventist, we will never yield 00:34:30.23\00:34:33.17 the Bible seventh day Sabbath, no matter how much pressure 00:34:33.17\00:34:36.04 is put on us, no matter what the offer 00:34:36.04\00:34:38.64 is to walk away from it. We will never walk away 00:34:38.64\00:34:42.14 from the seventh day Sabbath because it identifies, 00:34:42.14\00:34:45.18 every seventh day, who our Savior and Creator is. 00:34:45.18\00:34:49.68 We'll never walk away. Don't you ever let anybody 00:34:49.68\00:34:52.12 try to dissuade you. Crazy. 00:34:52.12\00:34:56.59 It's an Adventist, it's a really Adventist prayer. 'Cause you get 00:34:56.62\00:35:00.96 this line right here, right here. "O Lord of angel armies, 00:35:00.96\00:35:06.63 the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim." That's language straight off the top of 00:35:06.63\00:35:14.11 Mount Sinai, wrapped in thundering lightning and fire, and God is at the top 00:35:14.11\00:35:19.11 with his dear friend, Moses, and God is instructing Moses. "Now, there's one last piece 00:35:19.11\00:35:24.25 we need to make for this little portable church called the 00:35:24.25\00:35:27.69 tabernacle. It's called the Ark. Let me give you the dimensions." Here's what's going on 00:35:27.69\00:35:32.16 right here. Exodus 25:18-22. 00:35:32.16\00:35:35.60 That little golden box. In the most holy place. In space that 00:35:49.78\00:35:59.75 is perennially white with fire and glory. The physical presence 00:35:59.75\00:36:07.13 of Almighty God. "I'll meet you. Between the cherubim." Hezekiah 00:36:07.13\00:36:13.67 prays, "Oh, God. Oh, God who dwells beneath the cherubim." Do you know that that phrase 00:36:13.67\00:36:18.07 is used only seven times? It's a unique phrase, seven times in all of holy Scripture. 00:36:18.07\00:36:23.71 Wow. Hezekiah appeals to that God, surrounded as he is today 00:36:26.21\00:36:32.32 by imminent death, spreads out that surrender or you're dead 00:36:32.32\00:36:36.93 letter on the temple floor and pleads with the God enthroned 00:36:36.93\00:36:40.36 between Heaven's cherubim. "Save us, deliver us." Oh, I love that 00:36:40.36\00:36:45.73 prayer. I think I'll memorize it. 00:36:45.73\00:36:48.44 I beg of you, save us. It's a Daniel 8:14 kind of prayer, is 00:36:53.34\00:36:59.25 it not? For only once a year, Yom Kippur -- come on, you know the story -- Yom Kippur, 00:36:59.25\00:37:02.85 the day of atonement. Only happens once a year. When in a ritual symbolic of the 00:37:02.85\00:37:08.16 final cleansing in Heaven's sanctuary and Heaven's records, prophesied by Daniel to take 00:37:08.16\00:37:14.00 place just before the cataclysmic end of the world. 00:37:14.00\00:37:16.53 The high priest -- only one day of the year -- parts that veil. 00:37:16.53\00:37:20.37 His heart is in his throat. White light, glory. And he steps 00:37:20.37\00:37:28.91 into that divine presence, physical presence. "Oh, God enthroned between the cherubim, 00:37:28.91\00:37:38.75 save me, save us." Even at 2:00 in the morning. You have no idea who's calling at this unearthly 00:37:38.75\00:37:46.26 hour. "God save me." Even at midnight, when our overheated 00:37:46.26\00:37:53.40 laptop surfs the dark web. Where our addicted souls need somebody 00:37:53.40\00:38:01.38 to step in quick and deliver us from the lair of the cruel lion's den, who will take us 00:38:01.38\00:38:07.08 deeper and deeper into that darkness. Stop. 00:38:07.08\00:38:10.75 Prayer ends. "Now, Lord our God, deliver us from the enemy's 00:38:15.06\00:38:20.26 hand, so that all the kingdoms of the Earth may know that you, Lord, are the only, only God." 00:38:20.26\00:38:25.57 Hezekiah, in a moment of crippling danger, grasped the 00:38:25.57\00:38:29.90 most potent weapon he has, and it is the most potent weapon you and I have. Three times God will 00:38:29.90\00:38:34.94 use the identical Hebrew formula to describe this weapon. And here we go. Here it is. 00:38:34.94\00:38:40.25 Jot these down in your mind. Psalm 50:15, God speaking. 00:38:40.25\00:38:43.65 Psalm 91:15, the great protection Psalm. "He will call 00:38:50.39\00:38:54.93 on Me"... You already got it. 00:38:54.93\00:38:56.53 Jeremiah 29:12. Verse 11. "'And I know the plans 00:39:03.71\00:39:07.34 I have for you,' says the Lord. 'Plans to prosper you and not to 00:39:07.34\00:39:10.18 harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.'" As soon as 00:39:10.18\00:39:12.68 he makes that promise, he says... 00:39:12.68\00:39:14.78 "Call on me. Call on me. Call on me. Dwight, why don't you ever 00:39:21.06\00:39:24.59 call on me? You're calling on yourself. You're calling on your 00:39:24.59\00:39:27.83 friends. You're calling on the authorities. You're calling 00:39:27.83\00:39:30.50 somebody. You're calling everybody. You don't call on me. 00:39:30.50\00:39:35.60 Why? Do you think you can save yourself out of this? You 00:39:35.60\00:39:40.98 cannot. Call on me. Call on me and I'll deliver you." 00:39:40.98\00:39:46.35 Some people think you have to be trained to pray this prayer. You need no training at all 00:39:46.35\00:39:49.78 because the prayer is one word long. "Help!" 00:39:49.78\00:39:54.86 That's all you have to pray. "Help me, God between the 00:39:54.86\00:40:04.63 angels' wings. Deliver me now. Please." "Yeah, but, Dwight, 00:40:04.63\00:40:13.31 I'm too much of a sinner. I'm too addicted. I'm too weak. 00:40:13.31\00:40:21.82 I'm too much of a loser." You know, my friend, even if you 00:40:21.82\00:40:32.03 were right, even if you were, you need to pray only one prayer 00:40:32.03\00:40:38.37 before this one. And this prayer will open this prayer we just learned for your immediate 00:40:38.37\00:40:44.47 access. And here's the prayer. Jesus told a story once upon a 00:40:44.47\00:40:47.44 time about two men who went to church. One sat in the front and said I'm the greatest guy on 00:40:47.44\00:40:50.28 Earth. The other sat in the back pew of the church, pounding, beating his chest, Jesus said, 00:40:50.28\00:40:54.65 praying the one-sentence prayer. "God be merciful to me." And in the actual language 00:40:54.65\00:41:00.39 of Luke, which is the language Jesus was intending through Aramaic, the emphasis 00:41:00.39\00:41:05.99 he is intending to make, "God, be merciful to me, the sinner. I 00:41:05.99\00:41:12.03 am the sinner." Some of you are convinced today that you're the sinner sitting in this 00:41:12.03\00:41:16.04 sanctuary. You're these sinners here because you know your life. 00:41:16.04\00:41:19.27 None of us does. But you know your life. Oh, but we also know our lives. "God, be merciful to 00:41:19.27\00:41:24.81 me, the numero uno sinner." That's not so unusual. The mighty Apostle Paul 00:41:24.81\00:41:30.35 comes along and he says, "Here is a trustworthy saying worthy 00:41:30.35\00:41:35.52 of all acceptance. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am the worst. 00:41:35.52\00:41:40.63 I'm the worst." 00:41:40.63\00:41:42.20 My, oh, my, oh, my. 00:41:45.20\00:41:47.34 Wow. 00:41:49.90\00:41:51.51 How critical is this prayer at this time? "Prayer is the 00:41:54.78\00:41:58.55 greatest means" -- This is Duewel now. 00:41:58.55\00:42:00.22 Keep reading. "Apart from God Himself and His heavenly beings, 00:42:08.49\00:42:13.70 prayer is the greatest danger to the enemy's purpose, the enemy's plans, and the enemy's 00:42:13.70\00:42:19.30 activities." Prayer is the most -- is the mightiest weapon you have. The greatest, the most 00:42:19.30\00:42:27.04 powerful. "Call on me in the day of trouble, and I'll deliver you." Here's Duewel again. 00:42:27.04\00:42:30.98 Nah. 00:42:36.62\00:42:38.42 And by the way, you not only pray for yourself, but you have 00:42:47.46\00:42:51.27 people you're praying for. Never back down praying for the people 00:42:51.27\00:42:55.04 that you love. It might be your parents back at home, and they're going through a mess 00:42:55.04\00:42:57.84 right now. You keep praying for your parents. This weapon is not 00:42:57.84\00:43:03.48 just for me, me, me, me. You can use it for others, as well. 00:43:03.48\00:43:08.28 Ellen White concurs, by the way, "Satan cannot endure" -- Oh, 00:43:08.28\00:43:13.42 this is something. "Satan cannot endure to have his powerful rival appealed to." Who do you 00:43:13.42\00:43:18.53 suppose is his powerful rival? The Lord Jesus Christ, of 00:43:18.53\00:43:22.40 course. He's been jealous of Jesus from the get-go. "Satan cannot endure to have 00:43:22.40\00:43:26.70 his powerful rival appealed to, for he fears and he trembles 00:43:26.70\00:43:31.67 before Jesus' strength and majesty. At the sound of fervent prayer, Satan's whole host 00:43:31.67\00:43:38.65 trembles. He continues to call legions." Come on, he's praying. 00:43:38.65\00:43:42.78 She's praying. Give me -- Send in reinforcements. "He continues 00:43:42.78\00:43:46.86 to call legions of evil angels to accomplish his object. And when angels, all-powerful, 00:43:46.86\00:43:52.03 clothed with the armory of Heaven," show up, as they will 00:43:52.03\00:43:55.33 -- When you pray, they show up. "When angels, all-powerful, 00:43:55.33\00:44:01.04 clothed in the armory of Heaven, come to the help of the fainting, pursued soul" -- 00:44:01.04\00:44:05.74 That's one person. That's not the whole church praying. 00:44:05.74\00:44:08.68 That's one person. That's little you and little me. When you 00:44:08.68\00:44:13.72 pray, you unleash forces. Who rush to your side to defend you 00:44:13.72\00:44:21.32 from the killer who has determined that today's your day. "I will destroy you today." 00:44:21.32\00:44:25.29 No. Satan -- Oh, boy. I've got to read this again. 00:44:25.29\00:44:29.83 "And when angels, all-powerful, clothed with the armory of Heaven, come to the help of 00:44:29.83\00:44:34.14 the fainting, pursued soul" -- one soul -- "Satan and his host fall back, well knowing" 00:44:34.14\00:44:40.61 the battle's over, guys. Find somebody else. She's protected 00:44:40.61\00:44:45.18 now. He's protected. Keep an eye on him. I can't be back here. 00:44:45.18\00:44:47.98 You keep an eye on him. He'll let his guard down. Trust me, 00:44:47.98\00:44:50.89 he'll let his guard down. We've been through this before. Just 00:44:50.89\00:44:56.76 stay on him. We're in a war, folks. Nobody's dinking around 00:44:56.76\00:45:00.13 out there. Why are we dinking around in here? It's stupid. 00:45:00.13\00:45:06.40 It's foolish. We ought not to be doing it. 178 years ago, people took life really serious. 00:45:06.40\00:45:12.97 You know why? Because they believed Jesus was coming soon. 00:45:12.97\00:45:16.44 It's time to resurrect the advent hope in Adventism today. 00:45:16.48\00:45:20.48 Jesus is coming soon. Just because you don't believe 00:45:20.48\00:45:23.72 it, doesn't mean he's not coming soon. 00:45:23.72\00:45:25.45 That's your problem. 00:45:25.45\00:45:28.66 And by the way, if you die on the way home, God forbid, Jesus 00:45:28.69\00:45:33.90 just came for you. There you go. He just came for you. Now, don't 00:45:33.90\00:45:40.17 put it off. All right. One more line. "And when they humbly 00:45:40.17\00:45:47.04 entreat the mighty conqueror for help, the weakest believer" -- 00:45:47.04\00:45:50.81 By the way, I'm the weakest believer. Anybody else the weakest believer in the 00:45:50.81\00:45:53.92 sanctuary right now? Put your hand up if you are the weakest 00:45:53.92\00:45:56.22 believer. I'm easily the weakest believer. Which is why this promise is so good for me. 00:45:56.22\00:46:02.72 "When they humbly entreat the mighty conqueror for help, the 00:46:02.72\00:46:06.19 weakest believer in the truth, relying firmly upon Christ, can successfully repulse Satan 00:46:06.19\00:46:11.87 and all his armies." All of them. 00:46:11.87\00:46:18.84 You. It's not in your power. 00:46:18.87\00:46:20.94 You know that. That's not your power. 00:46:20.94\00:46:23.35 It's Jesus' power. Jesus ready to shoo! 00:46:23.35\00:46:27.75 "You call?" "I did. 00:46:27.75\00:46:31.92 God of Angel Armies, enthroned between the cherubim, 00:46:31.92\00:46:35.36 save me now." 00:46:35.36\00:46:37.33 Why are we so hesitant to ask? "Call on me. Call on me. Call on 00:46:37.36\00:46:43.33 me. I'll come. You call, I come." Hmm. I... 00:46:43.33\00:46:52.74 Do not let the devil -- I scribbled this down here. Do not 00:46:52.74\00:46:57.55 let the devil use your sin because he knows your sin better than you do. Do not let the 00:46:57.55\00:47:02.62 devil use your sin or your sinful record. He knows your addiction. Do not let him use 00:47:02.62\00:47:07.29 your sinful record to hold you back from calling on God night 00:47:07.29\00:47:12.93 and day. The God who dwells between the cherubim. "Save me, 00:47:12.93\00:47:17.07 please." Call on him. Last quote. I have this written in 00:47:17.07\00:47:20.84 every Bible I have because this is my dynamite. This is just so 00:47:20.84\00:47:24.91 favorite. This is from my favorite book, "Desire of Ages." 00:47:24.91\00:47:27.84 "We are to contend with supernatural forces, but we are assured of supernatural help." 00:47:27.84\00:47:31.98 Hallelujah. "All the intelligence of Heaven are in 00:47:31.98\00:47:37.32 this army." This is the army that comes when you call. The entire intelligence 00:47:37.32\00:47:42.69 of Heaven in this army. "And more than angels are in the 00:47:42.69\00:47:46.23 ranks." Keep reading. 00:47:46.23\00:47:47.93 For you, madam, for you, sir, all Heaven is at your disposal. 00:47:52.80\00:48:00.54 Now here comes the line. He said, "Dwight, I'm just -- I'm a 00:48:00.54\00:48:05.55 loser. I cannot avail myself of this power." You are so wrong. 00:48:05.55\00:48:11.75 You are so wrong. 00:48:11.75\00:48:13.96 What matters to God is not your track record, mnh-mnh. 00:48:27.07\00:48:32.41 What matters to God is not your sin that counts. Mnh. 00:48:32.41\00:48:38.45 It's grace. It's grace. My grace is sufficient for you. "Dwight, did you want something 00:48:38.45\00:48:44.62 more than my grace?" "No, Lord. Grace is enough." 00:48:44.62\00:48:48.49 "Call on me." The hill's guard hands outstretched at Calvary. 00:48:57.37\00:49:01.27 What's he saying? He's saying, "Call on me. Call on me 00:49:01.27\00:49:06.11 and I will deliver you. And you will glorify me. Yes, you will. 00:49:06.11\00:49:11.78 You will glorify me." And guess what? That dark night, when 00:49:11.78\00:49:18.82 troubled King Hezekiah finally drifted off to sleep after his desperate and passionate prayer, 00:49:18.82\00:49:25.16 sometime in that night, his prayer was answered. When, the 00:49:25.16\00:49:33.47 next morning, 185,000 enemy warriors woke up dead. 00:49:33.47\00:49:38.71 Gone. "Call on me, the God between the cherubim. 00:49:41.78\00:49:49.52 Call on me. Commune with me, worship me. Ask me." 00:49:49.52\00:49:56.46 It doesn't get any better than this, my friends. 00:49:56.46\00:50:00.86 I learned a song in a prayer conference in Hawaii some years 00:50:06.20\00:50:10.94 ago where I'd gone to speak. Never forgotten the song. Came 00:50:10.94\00:50:15.21 back and shared it with the congregation. and the minister of music. Ken Logan and I went 00:50:15.21\00:50:20.18 deep into our computers and we said, "Yep, we can find the 00:50:20.18\00:50:24.55 music to that." It's a very simple song. It's a beautiful prayer, and I'm going to invite 00:50:24.55\00:50:28.46 you to stand, and I'm gonna invite you to pray this prayer with me. There are three short 00:50:28.46\00:50:31.99 stanzas to it. The first one goes like this. Commune with me 00:50:31.99\00:50:35.30 between the wings of the cherubim, commune with me. The second one goes like this. 00:50:35.30\00:50:42.17 I worship you between the wings of the cherubim, 00:50:42.17\00:50:46.41 I worship you. And the final one goes like this. 00:50:46.41\00:50:49.31 I'll meet you there, between the wings of the cherubim, 00:50:49.31\00:50:54.08 I'll meet you there. Stand to your feet, please. Picture Jesus 00:50:54.08\00:51:00.59 standing between the cherubim right now in the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary, 00:51:00.59\00:51:04.09 where he is at this very moment. He's standing there. And let's 00:51:04.09\00:51:10.63 sing our prayer to him right now. 00:51:10.63\00:51:12.33 [ "Commune with Me" begins ] ¤¤ ¤¤ 00:51:12.80\00:51:20.68 ¤¤ ¤¤ 00:51:20.68\00:51:39.03 ¤¤ ¤¤ 00:51:39.06\00:51:51.54 All right.
