¤¤ 00:00:01.96\00:00:08.00 >> Good morning, church family. Happy Sabbath. 00:00:11.81\00:00:15.18 Happy Sabbath. We're super excited that you 00:00:15.18\00:00:18.28 guys are here to worship with us, and we invite you guys to 00:00:18.28\00:00:20.58 stand with us this morning as we sing our first song. 00:00:20.58\00:00:24.19 [ Piano plays ] 00:00:24.19\00:00:26.12 [ Congregation sings ] 00:00:29.49\00:00:32.53 We have one more song we're going to be singing 00:07:48.06\00:07:51.23 this morning. It's titled "I Surrender." 00:07:51.23\00:07:55.24 And I don't think there's any better reminder than "I 00:07:55.27\00:07:59.44 Surrender" before another week. Oftentimes, we get to the end of the week, and we're like, 00:07:59.44\00:08:04.55 "Thank you, Lord, for getting us through." And He has our back, 00:08:04.55\00:08:08.82 and He does get us through those weeks. But, guys, something that I've been trying to encourage 00:08:08.82\00:08:14.22 myself to do is to surrender before the week begins. And, guys, although it is 00:08:14.22\00:08:18.63 Sabbath and it's the end of a new -- of another week, it's also the beginning of 00:08:18.63\00:08:22.03 the new week. So I encourage you guys, as you guys go throughout 00:08:22.03\00:08:28.70 life, surrender everything to God. Don't leave anything out. Don't leave anything out. 00:08:28.70\00:08:35.41 Even the little things that you think are insignificant, they're 00:08:35.41\00:08:40.02 significant to God because He loves you. So I invite you guys to stand as we sing this last 00:08:40.02\00:08:46.15 song, "I Surrender." 00:08:46.15\00:08:48.09 Like a rushing wind. 00:11:53.27\00:11:54.58 One more time. 00:14:39.47\00:14:41.34 [ Piano plays ] ¤¤ 00:15:16.11\00:15:23.18 ¤¤ ¤¤ 00:15:23.18\00:15:32.06 >> ¤ What can wash away my sin? ¤ 00:15:32.06\00:15:36.77 ¤ Nothing but the blood of Jesus ¤ 00:15:36.77\00:15:41.30 >> ¤ What can make me whole again? ¤ ¤ Nothing but the blood 00:15:41.34\00:15:47.41 of Jesus ¤ >> ¤ Oh, precious is the flow that makes me bright as 00:15:47.41\00:16:02.49 snow ¤ >> ¤ No other fount I know >> ¤ Nothing but the blood 00:16:02.49\00:16:14.44 of Jesus ¤ ¤¤ ¤¤ >> ¤ For my pardon, this I see 00:16:14.44\00:16:26.88 ¤ Nothing but the blood of Jesus ¤ >> ¤ For my cleansing, 00:16:26.88\00:16:33.46 this my plea ¤ ¤ Nothing but the blood of Jesus ¤ 00:16:33.46\00:16:40.16 >> ¤ Jesus ¤ Oh, precious is the flow >> ¤ Oh, precious is the 00:16:40.16\00:16:46.90 flow >> ¤ That makes me bright as snow ¤ >> ¤ That makes me 00:16:46.90\00:16:52.47 bright as snow ¤ >> ¤ No other fount I know >> ¤ Nothing but 00:16:52.47\00:16:58.75 the blood of Jesus ¤ ¤¤ ¤¤ 00:16:58.75\00:17:11.89 ¤¤ ¤ This is all my hope and peace ¤ 00:17:11.89\00:17:22.17 ¤ Nothing but the blood of Jesus ¤ ¤ This is all my righteousness 00:17:22.17\00:17:39.12 ¤ Nothing but the blood of Jesus ¤ >> ¤ Nothing can for sin atone 00:17:39.12\00:17:54.04 >> ¤ Nothing can for sin atone >> ¤ Nothing but the blood of 00:17:54.04\00:17:58.37 Jesus ¤ >> ¤ Nothing but the blood of Jesus ¤ >> ¤ Naught of 00:17:58.37\00:18:02.31 good that I have done ¤ >> ¤ Nothing but the blood of Jesus ¤ 00:18:02.31\00:18:09.48 ¤ Jesus >> ¤ Oh, precious is the flow >> ¤ Oh, precious is the 00:18:09.48\00:18:16.22 flow >> ¤ That makes me bright as snow ¤ >> ¤ Makes me bright 00:18:16.22\00:18:22.03 as snow >> ¤ No other fount I know >> ¤ Nothing but the blood 00:18:22.03\00:18:33.51 of Jesus ¤ >> ¤ Oh, precious is the flow >> ¤ Oh, precious is the flow >> ¤ That makes me 00:18:33.51\00:18:40.25 bright as snow ¤ >> ¤ Bright as snow >> ¤ No other fount I know 00:18:40.25\00:18:48.46 >> ¤ Nothing but the blood of Jesus ¤ 00:18:48.46\00:18:58.60 ¤ Nothing but the blood of Jesus ¤ ¤¤ 00:19:00.54\00:19:20.56 [ Organ plays ] 00:19:27.00\00:19:29.83 [ Organ stops ] >> Let's pray. I was going home one evening from Pioneer for supper. 00:20:45.44\00:20:50.88 I'm listening to WBBM Newsradio out of Chicago. And I had to 00:20:50.88\00:20:59.69 pull off the road. My eyes were so out of focus with tears. 00:20:59.69\00:21:04.53 West Monroe, Louisiana. A father and mother were going 00:21:04.56\00:21:08.76 out for a Saturday night, and they took their 14-year-old 00:21:08.76\00:21:12.47 little girl over to her girlfriend's place 00:21:12.47\00:21:15.30 to spend the night. But as young daughters can do, 00:21:15.30\00:21:20.01 the girls changed their mind. And they said -- And Kaye said 00:21:20.01\00:21:24.95 to her friend, "Let's go over -- Let's go to our house, 00:21:24.95\00:21:27.88 and we'll spend the rest of the night in our house." 00:21:27.88\00:21:31.79 1:00 in the morning, Mom and Dad come back from Saturday night on the town, and Kaye says, 00:21:31.82\00:21:37.46 "Let's surprise them." So they jump into a closet. Father walks 00:21:37.46\00:21:44.93 in. Just as he steps in, the door flies open to that closet. 00:21:44.93\00:21:51.07 "Boo!" The father instinctively grabs a gun and shoots his daughter through the neck. 00:21:51.07\00:21:58.41 Her last words to him -- "Daddy, I love you." 00:21:58.41\00:22:05.09 I just sat there at the side of the road. I have a little girl. 00:22:09.29\00:22:12.76 She's still my little girl. And I cannot imagine how a father 00:22:12.76\00:22:22.74 would feel killing his little girl. We've got an obscure text here. We're going to look at it 00:22:22.74\00:22:31.71 right now. It has this story and Jesus' love written all over it. 00:22:31.71\00:22:36.25 And you've got to see it. So open your Bible. Hope you can 00:22:36.25\00:22:39.25 find the book -- Zechariah. It's next to the last book in the Old 00:22:39.25\00:22:43.32 Testament. If you get to Malachi, just one more book. Zechariah, chapter 12. 00:22:43.32\00:22:50.33 Zechariah, chapter 12. 00:22:50.33\00:22:54.20 God's speaking. "I will pour out on the house of David 00:22:59.14\00:23:04.75 and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace 00:23:04.75\00:23:09.32 and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have 00:23:09.32\00:23:16.22 pierced, and they will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for 00:23:16.22\00:23:21.93 Him as one grieves for a firstborn son." I was in this 00:23:21.93\00:23:27.50 church yesterday afternoon as we said goodbye to a firstborn son. 00:23:27.50\00:23:32.34 Too young to die. Just under 40 years of age. Sad. I can't imagine that father 00:23:32.34\00:23:41.75 on the front row of his daughter's funeral. I mean, what 00:23:41.75\00:23:46.05 is going through his mind? But that's what we just read. See 00:23:46.05\00:23:54.36 this line? "They will look on me, the one they have pierced." 00:23:54.36\00:24:01.77 They killed Him. They killed Him. 00:24:01.77\00:24:04.11 It's as plain as a nose on your face. It's interesting, that 00:24:06.47\00:24:12.85 line, "The one they have pierced," their look on me. It's 00:24:12.85\00:24:16.69 tucked away in the New Testament. Friday afternoon, late, the man on the center 00:24:16.69\00:24:23.43 Cross has just expired with that triumphant cry. It is finished. 00:24:23.43\00:24:30.67 They're making sure the prisoners will die quickly. They break the legs of one 00:24:30.67\00:24:37.24 of the thieves, they break the legs of the others so that they 00:24:37.24\00:24:42.41 can't push against their legs and they will die of suffocation. They come to the 00:24:42.41\00:24:46.28 man on the middle cross. Let's pick it up right here in John, 00:24:46.28\00:24:49.52 chapter 19. "But when they came to Jesus and found that He was already dead, they did not break 00:24:49.52\00:24:56.56 his legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side 00:24:56.56\00:25:00.83 with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. The man 00:25:00.83\00:25:05.93 who saw it has given testimony." That's John Boy. "And his 00:25:05.93\00:25:09.70 testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may 00:25:09.70\00:25:15.11 believe. These things happened so that the scripture would be 00:25:15.11\00:25:18.11 fulfilled -- 'Not one of his bones will be broken.' And as another scripture says, 00:25:18.11\00:25:22.48 'They will look on the one they have pierced.'" We just read it, 00:25:22.48\00:25:27.39 didn't we? "They will look on the one they have pierced." Zechariah 12, John 19 00:25:27.39\00:25:35.66 telling the same Calvary truth. And what is that Calvary truth? 00:25:35.66\00:25:43.34 We killed Him. I'm going to put it in big letters so it sticks 00:25:43.34\00:25:47.01 in your mind. We killed Him. I'm talking about you. I'm talking 00:25:47.01\00:25:53.05 about me. We killed Him. I know what you're thinking. "Man, come 00:25:53.05\00:25:59.35 on, Dwight. How could I possibly feel guilty for something I obviously, let alone 00:25:59.35\00:26:04.79 repentant, for something I obviously did not do? Terrible 00:26:04.79\00:26:09.33 death. I agree. Two millennia ago, you got it. But, I mean, please, I understand the point 00:26:09.33\00:26:14.64 you're trying to make, but let's be real. I didn't kill him. 00:26:14.64\00:26:19.04 Really, I didn't." And that's the nearly overmastering 00:26:19.04\00:26:25.95 challenge God has with me. "How am I going to help Dwight?" Understand the immensity 00:26:25.95\00:26:35.12 of the cost of just His sins alone, just one of His sins. Never mind the sins 00:26:35.12\00:26:41.10 of the world. Let's say I go over to your house for dinner or 00:26:41.10\00:26:51.27 lunch. I'd love to. And you're in the kitchen throwing lunch 00:26:51.27\00:26:55.14 together and I'm out there. Let's say your house has a fireplace, and you know above 00:26:55.14\00:26:58.31 the fireplace is that mantle, and you got all your little 00:26:58.31\00:27:02.15 keepsakes there. And clumsy me. I pick up a beautiful vase, and I'm turning it in my hand 00:27:02.15\00:27:08.86 when I drop it. It falls to the bricks below, and I am so 00:27:08.86\00:27:13.50 embarrassed. I am down there. I have to get these shards picked 00:27:13.50\00:27:16.46 up before you come out of the kitchen. And I'm picking them up 00:27:16.46\00:27:19.27 as fast as I can. Suddenly you're racing out of the kitchen, and I look up at you, 00:27:19.27\00:27:22.94 and I mumble, "I'm so sorry. Clumsy me. Listen, don't worry 00:27:22.94\00:27:29.21 about it. I'll get you another one. I think I've seen one in 00:27:29.21\00:27:33.21 Walmart, and I'll get it for you." And you look back at me with your -- with your 00:27:33.21\00:27:37.62 blanched face. Your lips are moving, but nothing is coming 00:27:37.62\00:27:43.32 out. And finally, when your voice whispers, you tell me, 00:27:43.32\00:27:48.63 "That was an heirloom from my great-grandmother. There's only 00:27:48.63\00:27:54.97 one other one in the world, and it is valued at $167,000." You know, I kind of felt sorry 00:27:54.97\00:28:04.05 a moment ago, but I've got astronomical repentance going on 00:28:04.05\00:28:11.02 right now. Why? Because I just realized the cost of what my clumsiness has done. 00:28:11.02\00:28:24.80 When I know the cost, then I feel the pain. "And I will pour 00:28:24.80\00:28:32.27 out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a 00:28:32.27\00:28:35.54 spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, 00:28:35.54\00:28:40.45 and they will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only child and grieve bitterly for Him 00:28:40.45\00:28:45.29 as one grieves for a firstborn." See, that's why God had to pour 00:28:45.29\00:28:52.59 his spirit out, because until His spirit works on this heart, I'm telling you, I'm just not 00:28:52.59\00:28:59.33 going to get it. I'm not going to realize the immensity of the cost. My sins killed Him. 00:28:59.33\00:29:10.58 Your sins, our sins. You say, "Aw, come on, Dwight. What sins 00:29:10.58\00:29:15.52 are you talking about?" Well, I'm talking about -- I'm talking 00:29:15.52\00:29:18.82 about your darling sin. And I'm talking about my besetting sin. 00:29:18.82\00:29:23.79 You know, the one that we have -- We even have a hard time 00:29:23.79\00:29:28.00 wanting to let go of it. "Maņana. I'll get to it 00:29:28.00\00:29:33.40 someday." Someday, that's gone. Promise, it'll be gone. And for 00:29:33.40\00:29:38.87 those of us who are sitting here right now and saying, "Yo, I appreciate this talk about great 00:29:38.87\00:29:44.48 sins, but I'm going to be honest with you. I cannot think of one 00:29:44.48\00:29:49.35 big sin in my life right now." And I can think of one big sin in your life right now. 00:29:49.35\00:29:56.12 Dishonesty. No, come on. I'm being serious. 00:29:56.12\00:30:01.56 Because, look, if you aren't able to admit that you have the 00:30:01.56\00:30:09.34 sin that killed Him... you're doing a number on yourself. 00:30:09.34\00:30:16.48 You are fooling yourself, sir. I'm telling you. The one sin, 00:30:16.48\00:30:25.85 the one addiction, the one pet that I just don't want to let go 00:30:25.85\00:30:34.83 yet, that's the one. 00:30:34.83\00:30:38.10 I debated whether to put these words on the screen or not. 00:30:43.84\00:30:46.84 I went back and forth in my own mind. 00:30:46.84\00:30:50.35 And then I just got the conviction. "No, I'll put them 00:30:50.38\00:30:54.68 up." Let me share them with you. 100 years ago... "God's law reaches the feelings 00:30:54.68\00:30:59.89 and motives, as well as the outward acts. It reveals the 00:30:59.89\00:31:05.79 secrets of the heart, flashing light upon things before buried 00:31:05.79\00:31:11.40 in darkness. God knows every thought, every purpose, every plan, every motive." 00:31:11.40\00:31:20.94 And then here's the line. "The books of Heaven record the sins that would have been 00:31:20.94\00:31:26.61 committed had there been opportunity." 00:31:26.61\00:31:32.65 And I said to myself -- Seriously, I said to myself 00:31:32.69\00:31:36.26 this week, "I don't know. I'm not sure about that." 00:31:36.26\00:31:42.06 And then, just like that, the Sermon on the Mount, 00:31:42.06\00:31:46.10 the red-letter words of Jesus. 00:31:46.10\00:31:49.04 If a man looks on a woman with lustful eyes, he has broken 00:31:49.07\00:31:59.38 already the Seventh Commandment. True or false? It's true. 00:31:59.38\00:32:06.49 The sin that I would commit were I given the opportunity. But I 00:32:06.49\00:32:14.60 don't. "The books of Heaven record the sins that would have been committed had there been 00:32:14.60\00:32:19.83 that opportunity." Wow. I'm telling you, 00:32:19.83\00:32:25.54 it's the gospel truth. We killed Him, your sin and mine. 00:32:25.54\00:32:31.58 The words of Horatius Bonar, a 19th-century Scottish hymn 00:32:31.58\00:32:37.52 writer -- "Twas I that shed the sacred blood. I nailed Him to 00:32:37.52\00:32:43.59 the tree. I crucified the Christ of God. I joined the mockery." 00:32:43.59\00:32:51.70 "Desire of Ages." Doesn't pull any punches. "Upon all" -- "Upon all rests the guilt 00:32:51.70\00:32:58.77 of crucifying the Son of God." I'm telling you, we killed Him. 00:32:58.77\00:33:07.88 I did. You did. "And I will pour out on the house of David 00:33:07.88\00:33:12.52 and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and 00:33:12.52\00:33:16.73 supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for Him 00:33:16.73\00:33:22.00 as one mourns for an only child and grieve bitterly for Him as 00:33:22.00\00:33:27.27 one grieves for a firstborn son." Because that's the truth 00:33:27.27\00:33:34.11 of Calvary. But I'm grateful for that word "look." "They will 00:33:34.11\00:33:40.78 look on me." [ Inhales sharply ] Reminds me of a camel-haired, 00:33:40.78\00:33:48.06 bushy-bearded prophet of the wilderness, John the Baptist, standing by the mighty Jordan, 00:33:48.06\00:33:51.79 and he spots a stranger in the crowd, and he points his finger, he says, "Yo, everybody, look, 00:33:51.79\00:33:55.16 look, look. Look. The Lamb of God who takes away 00:33:55.16\00:34:01.70 the sin of the world." Got to put that up. "Look. 00:34:01.70\00:34:06.74 Look, the Lamb of God." 00:34:06.74\00:34:11.11 And, by the way, aren't you glad that it says he takes away the 00:34:13.88\00:34:18.89 sin of the world? You got a sin in your life right now, like I do, that you wish He would take 00:34:18.89\00:34:23.53 away? Of course, He'll need my permission, and He'll need your 00:34:23.53\00:34:27.86 permission. But isn't that wonderful? He'll take it away. We don't have to keep it. 00:34:27.86\00:34:32.23 We can let it go. 00:34:32.23\00:34:34.64 "You sure it works that easy, Dwight?" Yep, I'm sure. 00:34:38.04\00:34:41.68 One more time "Desire of Ages." "Jesus knows the circumstances 00:34:41.68\00:34:46.08 of every soul." He knows your story backwards and forwards. He 00:34:46.08\00:34:50.15 knows mine. "You may say, 'I am sinful, very sinful.' You may 00:34:50.15\00:34:57.23 be, but the worse you are, the more you need Jesus. He turns no 00:34:57.23\00:35:02.83 weeping, contrite one away. He does not tell to any all that He 00:35:02.83\00:35:08.00 might reveal." "Dwight, I got a book about you. I'm not going to tell it all to you. 00:35:08.00\00:35:13.44 It'll crush you. It'll destroy you. I'm not going to tell you 00:35:13.44\00:35:18.65 all I know." "He turns no weeping, contrite one away. 00:35:18.65\00:35:23.99 He does not tell to any all that He might reveal, but He bids 00:35:23.99\00:35:29.12 every trembling soul, 'Take courage.'" Oh, I love that. "Take courage." "Freely will He 00:35:29.12\00:35:34.56 pardon all who come to Him for forgiveness and restoration." "Freely will He pardon 00:35:34.56\00:35:40.74 all who come to Him for forgiveness and restoration." 00:35:40.74\00:35:47.31 Hallelujah. It doesn't matter what my addiction may be. It doesn't matter how sinful 00:35:47.31\00:35:52.95 you may be. "Freely, He will pardon all who come to Him for 00:35:52.95\00:35:58.69 forgiveness and restoration," but He does even more. "Oh, we can't go out of here 00:35:58.69\00:36:03.93 without getting the verse right after Zechariah 12:10. Here's 00:36:03.93\00:36:09.20 the next verse. 13:1. "On that day, a fountain will be open 00:36:09.20\00:36:14.50 to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin 00:36:14.50\00:36:20.18 and impurity." For these last few sermons, we've been kind of 00:36:20.18\00:36:25.48 working around the theme "blessed are the pure and high, for they will see God." 00:36:25.48\00:36:29.82 And we put our signatures up there a few weeks ago. "On that day" -- How's that go? 00:36:29.82\00:36:37.06 Let's cut out those extraneous phrases there. "On that day, a 00:36:37.06\00:36:42.13 fountain will be opened...to cleanse us from sin and impurity." Doesn't matter what 00:36:42.13\00:36:52.64 you've done or how long you'd done it. Doesn't matter at all. 00:36:52.64\00:36:57.11 On that day, when we look on that day, He will open up a fountain to cleanse us from sin 00:36:57.11\00:37:05.12 and impurity. That's the good news of the Gospel woven through 00:37:05.12\00:37:09.76 the entire scriptures. Isaiah 1:18. "'Come now, let us settle 00:37:09.76\00:37:12.93 the matter." Yo, King James reads. "Come now, let's reason 00:37:12.93\00:37:16.03 together," says the Lord. Though your sins are as what? They 00:37:16.03\00:37:22.24 shall be as what? White as snow. Though they are what? Like 00:37:22.24\00:37:26.21 crimson. They shall be like what? Like wool. Can you believe 00:37:26.21\00:37:30.58 that? The sins I have, the sins you've got. Wow, keep reading. 00:37:30.58\00:37:36.12 I love this. From Hebrews 10:22. "Let us therefore draw near to God with a sincere heart 00:37:36.12\00:37:43.19 and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts 00:37:43.19\00:37:47.76 sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our 00:37:47.76\00:37:52.23 bodies washed with pure water." Can it get any better than that? Guilty conscience gone. 00:37:52.23\00:37:57.34 Pure water all over my body. And I'm clean now. How do you do 00:37:57.34\00:38:04.38 that, God? "Keep reading, Dwight." "Okay." 1 John 1:7. "The Blood of Jesus His Son." 00:38:04.38\00:38:10.19 What's that word? Purifies us. From how much sin? All sin. 00:38:10.19\00:38:15.96 Two verses later, "If we confess our sins" -- any of them, all of 00:38:15.96\00:38:21.16 them at the same time -- "If we confess our sins, He is faithful 00:38:21.16\00:38:25.60 and just to forgive us our sins." And what's that word? He 00:38:25.60\00:38:30.61 will purify us. He will purify us from all ugliness and dirtiness and filthiness and 00:38:30.61\00:38:39.48 impurity. It's gone. We got washed. >> Yes. 00:38:39.48\00:38:44.35 >> Pure water, too. Man. Oh, no wonder, "On that day, 00:38:44.35\00:38:50.43 a fountain will be opened... to cleanse us from sin and 00:38:50.43\00:38:56.46 impurity." All we have to do, you and I, is go to that fountain. And guess what? 00:38:56.46\00:39:02.20 We are at that fountain right now. Oh, I got to tell you about 00:39:02.20\00:39:07.81 him. The English poet and hymn writer William Cooper -- it's 00:39:07.81\00:39:11.68 spelled "Cowper," but he went by Cooper -- gave to the Christian church some of Her most beloved 00:39:11.68\00:39:17.35 hymns. But it comes as a shock for many people to learn that he 00:39:17.35\00:39:23.99 composed his hymns while suffering mental-health crises that plagued him on and off all 00:39:23.99\00:39:31.13 his life. They say Gen Z-ers are particularly sensitive to mental-health issues. 00:39:31.13\00:39:35.84 Here's one Gen Z-er for you. Amazing. He was a friend of John 00:39:35.84\00:39:43.55 Newton. You know John Newton? The, "Amazing grace, how sweet 00:39:43.55\00:39:47.08 the sound that saved a wretch like me," that John Newton? Newton was an older pastor, 00:39:47.08\00:39:52.49 but he befriended a young William Cooper. And it was 00:39:52.49\00:39:57.66 Newton who nursed Cooper through some of his most severe mental-health crises. He 00:39:57.66\00:40:04.17 attempted suicide again and again and again. Three times he was placed in what they called 00:40:04.17\00:40:09.30 back then the insane asylum. 00:40:09.30\00:40:12.81 But in the breaks of sanity and lucidity and clarity, 00:40:16.11\00:40:23.95 he keeps picking up his pen and scribbling gospel hymns of good 00:40:23.95\00:40:32.29 news. We got three of them in our hymnal. This one is there, 00:40:32.29\00:40:36.70 and it's a great poem. It's called one of his greatest. 00:40:36.70\00:40:40.04 Majestic hymn. "God moves in a mysterious way, 00:40:40.07\00:40:42.90 His wonders to perform. He plants His footsteps in the 00:40:42.90\00:40:45.67 sea and rides upon the storm." We've never sung it. 00:40:45.67\00:40:48.44 We may have to sing that sometime, Mr. Minister of Music. 00:40:48.44\00:40:51.38 That's a powerful one. Oh, and he's the composer 00:40:51.38\00:40:54.42 of that beautiful prayer hymn also in our hymnal. 00:40:54.42\00:40:56.82 You might remember these words. "Oh, for a closer walk with God, 00:40:56.82\00:41:00.96 a calm and Heavenly frame, a light to shine upon the road 00:41:00.96\00:41:04.66 that leads me to the Lamb." But hands down, 00:41:04.66\00:41:09.60 the most famous hymn composed by William Cooper 00:41:09.60\00:41:14.97 goes like this -- ¤ There is a fountain 00:41:14.97\00:41:20.08 filled with blood, drawn from Emmanuel's veins ¤ 00:41:20.08\00:41:28.68 ¤ And sinners plunge beneath that flood, 00:41:28.68\00:41:35.46 lose all their guilty stains ¤ 00:41:35.46\00:41:44.50 Bathing in the Red River. That's it. Sinners plunge beneath 00:41:44.53\00:41:50.54 that flood. There is a fountain that's been opened, 00:41:50.54\00:41:56.68 and we're standing on that fountain right now. We're here. 00:41:56.68\00:42:00.85 Oh, we got to sing that song. Mr. Minister of Music, come on. I picked out three. 00:42:00.85\00:42:04.42 There are six stanzas. We're going to sing just three. I want you to stand on your feet 00:42:04.42\00:42:07.46 because you sing better when you're standing. And I want to 00:42:07.46\00:42:11.33 sing that stanza we just did. But it has this beautiful going on where our voices 00:42:11.33\00:42:15.53 just go higher and higher. And I just love it. Sing your heart 00:42:15.53\00:42:19.17 out. Sing it as if it were the good news that you've been dying 00:42:19.17\00:42:24.34 to learn and we just learned it today. Come on, let's sing it. 00:42:24.34\00:42:27.24 [ Organ plays ] 00:42:27.28\00:42:29.58 All right, let's go. [ Congregation sings ] 00:42:35.38\00:42:41.49 >> Welcome to the Lord's Supper table. 00:45:33.63\00:45:36.80 Now, we contemplated this morning bathing in the Red River 00:45:36.80\00:45:39.57 with Pastor Dwight and just accepting the promise 00:45:39.57\00:45:42.27 of forgiveness and the cleansing that flows 00:45:42.27\00:45:45.11 from the Cross of Christ. 00:45:45.11\00:45:47.44 And now we get to celebrate the good news. Jesus has washed us. 00:45:47.48\00:45:52.25 He's cleansed us. And now we are set free. And to keep that 00:45:52.25\00:45:56.55 in the forefront of our minds, we're going to have -- have 00:45:56.55\00:46:01.76 Mordekai Ongo read the scripture, the verse from that evening at the Lord's Supper 00:46:01.76\00:46:06.49 with the disciples. 00:46:06.49\00:46:10.87 >> I'm going to read from the Book of Mark, 14:23-24 00:46:10.90\00:46:18.44 in the NIV.
