Can I? >> Come on. Please! >> Yeah, I'll help 00:15:02.00\00:15:08.30 you learn. >> Luke was now very happy his brother agreed to teach him to do a front flip. 00:15:08.30\00:15:13.51 They headed out to their grassy backyard to get on their 00:15:13.51\00:15:18.11 trampoline. >> Luke, watch me do a front flip, and then tell me 00:15:18.11\00:15:23.02 what I'm doing. >> Okay, I'll try. 00:15:23.02\00:15:24.69 >> Okay, Luke, tell me what you just saw. >> Um, a front flip? 00:15:27.62\00:15:32.36 >> Is that all you saw? >> It was too fast. >> Okay, maybe we 00:15:32.36\00:15:37.80 should try a different approach. >> What do you mean? >> How about I tell you what to 00:15:37.80\00:15:41.84 do. First, you have to remember to tuck. 00:15:41.84\00:15:44.77 If you don't tuck, you won't have enough rotation. Second, you have to jump at the 00:15:44.77\00:15:50.11 right time. If you jump too early, you will be too close to 00:15:50.11\00:15:54.78 the ground. Lastly, you'll have to follow through. If you get scared and you stop 00:15:54.78\00:15:59.02 rotating, you will have a bigger chance of falling on your neck than if you just keep going. 00:15:59.02\00:16:03.93 >> Okay, I think I've got it all figured out. >> Do you think 00:16:03.93\00:16:08.00 you're ready? >> Nope, but I'm going to try anyway. >> Now, Luke was terrified, but 00:16:08.00\00:16:12.43 he didn't show it. He wanted to look strong. When he tried doing 00:16:12.43\00:16:18.04 the front flip, he stopped rotating and fell flat on his back. >> Luke, are you okay? 00:16:18.04\00:16:23.65 What happened? >> I can't do it. So, I'm having my next breakfast banana. 00:25:08.74\00:25:12.07 She comes walking by, she said, "Don't forget, save those banana 00:25:12.07\00:25:15.81 peels for me." I says, "What are you gonna do with it?" 00:25:57.12\00:26:00.29 She says, "Watch." She takes the lid off one day, and then she 00:26:00.29\00:26:04.53 begins to pour it on the plants, the geraniums that are on our deck. She says, "This is 00:26:04.53\00:26:10.13 potassium. It's good for the pants." Oh, brother. Are you serious? I had to look the word 00:26:10.13\00:26:14.87 up last night because it's hard to pronounce, but I got it right here -- "horticulturist," 00:26:14.87\00:26:21.01 and according to the Web, "an expert in garden cultivation and 00:26:21.01\00:26:28.05 management." This morning, in the brave new world of post-Flood -- three times we're 00:26:28.05\00:26:33.05 going to a brave new world, three times it's post-Flood -- we're gonna meet the world's 00:26:33.05\00:26:38.86 first horticulturist. And, oh, my, is he good. Open your Bible 00:26:38.86\00:26:44.10 with me please. Let's go. Genesis chapter nine. I'm in the NIV. Any Bible you have nearby, 00:26:44.10\00:26:49.37 grab it please. Genesis 9:18. "And the sons of Noah who came 00:26:49.37\00:26:54.41 out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth." Japheth's number 00:26:54.41\00:26:58.38 one, Shem is number two, Ham is the youngest boy. "And," Moses 00:26:58.38\00:27:01.98 goes on, "Ham was the father of Canaan." Now, this is a big deal, because the Israelites, 00:27:01.98\00:27:06.19 who will read this story of the beginning, like a burr under the saddle or a thorn in the flesh, 00:27:06.19\00:27:11.56 the Canaanites have just been driving them to distraction. So we're tracing them all the 00:27:11.56\00:27:16.73 way back. Now, verse 20 -- no, no verse 19. 00:27:16.73\00:27:23.17 "These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over 00:27:23.17\00:27:28.14 the whole Earth. Guess what. One of those three boys is your 00:27:28.14\00:27:31.28 great-great-great-great-great -- whatever. One of them is. Has to 00:27:31.28\00:27:34.92 be. The whole human race came from those three. Now verse 20. 00:27:34.92\00:27:39.09 Here we go. "Noah, a man of the soil --" horticulturist. "Noah, 00:27:39.09\00:27:44.36 a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard." Oh, that's great language for us who live 00:27:44.36\00:27:48.86 here in Southwestern Michigan, because this is vineyard country. There are vineyards 00:27:48.86\00:27:54.00 everywhere. I don't know -- it doesn't say what kind of vineyard he planted. 00:27:54.00\00:27:58.47 What color were the grapes? Were they red, were they brown, were they purple, were they 00:27:58.47\00:28:04.51 blue, were they black, were they green, were they white? It 00:28:04.51\00:28:08.02 doesn't say. Were they Concord? Were they Thompson, were they Flame, were they Ruby? 00:28:08.02\00:28:11.99 It doesn't say. It just says he planted a vineyard. 00:28:11.99\00:28:14.52 And by the way, he's the first human being to have ever planted 00:28:14.52\00:28:17.96 a vineyard. Wow. That's pretty cool. Well, I don't know how many seasons go by, and he's 00:28:17.96\00:28:23.26 doing it somewhere down the sides of Mount Ararat. So he's terraced out a vineyard 00:28:23.26\00:28:29.37 somewhere, and this vineyard is successful. Wow. 00:28:29.37\00:28:33.88 I don't know -- perhaps he erected a little château, you know, out of rocks left over 00:28:33.88\00:28:39.75 from the Flood and just piled them up and has this little château beside the vineyard, and 00:28:39.75\00:28:45.49 it has the clay jars in it, and he fills those clay jars with the juices of the different 00:28:45.49\00:28:49.42 grapes that he's growing. And of course the family loves the 00:28:49.42\00:28:52.56 juices. He loves the juices. One day, he comes to that little château, and he reaches up, and 00:28:52.56\00:28:56.30 he grabs a clay jar, and he says, "Hmm, I want to try this 00:28:56.30\00:29:01.10 one." And so he gets it, and he tilts it back. [ Slurps ] 00:29:01.10\00:29:05.67 "Ahh! Wow! What is that?! This has a bite to it. 00:29:05.67\00:29:11.51 I want to try a little more. [ Slurps ] Ohh. 00:29:11.51\00:29:18.19 This has a buzz to it!" I don't know how he learned the word "buzz," but you got it. 00:29:18.19\00:29:24.76 [ Slurps, breathes heavily ] And he kept drinkin'. Yep. And what 00:29:24.76\00:29:33.20 happens? Before long, Noah's cognition is being affected in a way no human being's cognition 00:29:33.20\00:29:40.48 has ever heretofore been affected. Something's happened 00:29:40.48\00:29:47.22 to him. Verse 21. "And when he drank some of its wine --" that would be grape juice -- "he 00:29:47.22\00:29:53.62 became drunk --" well, that's obviously fermented grape juice -- "he became drunk and lay 00:29:53.62\00:29:59.66 uncovered --" that means naked --" inside his tent. Now, let's be clear about one thing. 00:29:59.66\00:30:05.70 Nature invented fermentation. But the way the story is being told, we are being told more 00:30:05.70\00:30:13.07 than the story appears to tell. There obviously is an evil mastermind who, in his own 00:30:13.07\00:30:19.91 laboratories, has concocted what will become alcohol, and he's finally got a human to try it. 00:30:19.91\00:30:29.16 Oh, boy. And thus begins the ill-fated journey of alcoholic 00:30:29.16\00:30:34.66 inebriation for the human race. Jacques Doukhan, in his, what I consider, masterful commentary 00:30:34.66\00:30:41.17 on the first book of the Bible -- this is for the Seventh-Day 00:30:41.17\00:30:44.77 Adventist International Bible Commentary, and he wrote the first volume, and I've read it 00:30:44.77\00:30:49.44 cover to cover. He helped me see what's embedded in this Hebrew narrative that I would never 00:30:49.44\00:30:55.75 have seen on my own. Alright, maybe this will be interesting for you, too. Point number one 00:30:55.75\00:31:00.92 embedded there. The parallels -- Jacques points this out. The parallels between drinking 00:31:00.92\00:31:05.19 by Noah and the eating of the forbidden fruit by Adam suddenly suggest a warning against that 00:31:05.19\00:31:11.80 temptation of wine drinking. It's not grape-juice drinking. It's fermented-grape-juice 00:31:11.80\00:31:17.17 drinking. Something dreadfully wrong happens in both stories 00:31:17.17\00:31:21.38 when the fruit is consumed, no matter how it's consumed. In the first story, the act of 00:31:21.38\00:31:26.18 eating the fruit is clearly divinely forbidden. In the second story, the act of 00:31:26.18\00:31:30.92 drinking from the fruit is now subtly divinely forbidden. Hmm. 00:31:30.92\00:31:40.50 Point number two embedded. This divine indictment of fermented wine drinking may also 00:31:40.50\00:31:48.20 be implied -- let me just stay close to what Jacques' point here -- is also implied by the 00:31:48.20\00:31:53.88 very fact that the first drinking ever recorded in the Bible is associated with shame 00:31:53.88\00:31:59.25 and a curse. And, by the way, may I tell you that the second 00:31:59.25\00:32:03.99 drinking of wine -- fermented grape juice -- in the Bible is also associated with shame and a 00:32:03.99\00:32:08.49 curse when Lot's daughters hoodwink him into becoming inebriated, and then they have 00:32:08.49\00:32:14.73 incestuous sex with their daddy. Yeah, the first two instances. Something else is being taught 00:32:14.73\00:32:23.04 to us here. Number three, the specification of a beginning. 00:32:23.04\00:32:27.18 So the line can be translated, "Noah was a man of the soil and was the first to plant a 00:32:27.18\00:32:32.55 vineyard." The specification of the beginning of this culture of 00:32:32.55\00:32:36.45 wine, fermented wine, indicates it is outside the purview of the divine act of creation. 00:32:36.45\00:32:46.03 This is something that was never intended. One more embedded 00:32:46.03\00:32:51.20 point. This presumption -- Doukhan is making a point -- perhaps explains why Daniel 00:32:51.20\00:32:58.27 totally -- totally -- refuses to drink a drop of wine in Babylon or be diverted from a 00:32:58.27\00:33:07.82 plant-based diet. Both of those acts -- his pledge of loyalty to 00:33:07.82\00:33:12.19 the God who created him. Ooh. I thought that was interesting. 00:33:12.19\00:33:15.82 And of course the Bible's warnings -- and they are there -- indicate that that 00:33:15.82\00:33:21.36 drinking of fermented grape juice now speaks loudly as being condemned by the Creator 00:33:21.36\00:33:29.54 Himself. Now, lookit, obviously Noah did not know the inebriating effects 00:33:29.54\00:33:33.51 of this. He didn't know. How could he have known? 00:33:33.51\00:33:35.98 He didn't know. But just because we don't know what the effects 00:33:35.98\00:33:40.35 are of what we're doing doesn't make what we're doing right. Does that make sense? 00:33:40.35\00:33:44.55 It's got to. Okay. Well, the plot thickens now. 00:33:44.55\00:33:48.92 Ooh. Here we go. Verse 22. So he's drunk and he's naked inside 00:33:48.92\00:33:53.86 the tent. Verse 22 now. "Ham, the father of Canaan --" we're being reminded again, 00:33:53.86\00:33:57.60 those affliction bearers to the tri-- to the community of Israel, they go all the way back 00:33:57.60\00:34:07.11 to this. "Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked, 00:34:07.11\00:34:11.15 and he told his two brothers outside. But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it 00:34:11.15\00:34:15.12 across their shoulders, and as they walked in backward, they covered their father's naked 00:34:15.12\00:34:18.55 body. Their faces were turned the other way so they would not see their naked father." 00:34:18.55\00:34:21.79 They didn't see him at all. They just dropped that blanket down and, "Phew, Daddy's covered 00:34:21.79\00:34:26.46 now." Wow. What's going on here? Robert Alter -- just mentioned 00:34:26.46\00:34:36.04 him a second ago -- three-volume, one-man translation of Hebrew, and I'm 00:34:36.04\00:34:41.01 in the first volume, and I'm reading Genesis through right now in his translation. 00:34:41.01\00:34:46.48 He writes this, a little translation note, and I'm quoting him -- "No one has ever 00:34:46.48\00:34:51.55 figured out exactly what it is that Ham does to Noah." Okay? What's up with this? 00:34:51.55\00:34:56.83 "Lot's daughters of course take advantage of his drunkenness to have sex with him, but it is 00:34:56.83\00:35:01.06 entirely possible that the mere seeing of a father's nakedness was thought of as a terrible 00:35:01.06\00:35:05.20 taboo so that Ham's failure to avert his eyes would itself have earned him the curse." 00:35:05.20\00:35:11.07 Now, Doukhan compares -- and Ham saw -- with Eve -- and Eve saw 00:35:11.07\00:35:19.28 the fruit. There's something in that seeing that is the dramatic key to their downfall. 00:35:19.28\00:35:28.16 They saw it. They lingered. Huh. "Patriarchs and Prophets" comes 00:35:28.16\00:35:33.90 along, and I'm telling you what, she doesn't say what it is, but her language could hardly be 00:35:33.90\00:35:38.50 more explicit. Let me just read you one sentence. 00:35:38.50\00:35:41.84 This is all that it said. "The unnatural --" so whatever is going on in that tent. 00:35:41.84\00:35:47.71 "The unnatural crime --" so whatever's going on in that tent is not only unnatural, it is a 00:35:47.71\00:35:52.48 crime. 00:35:52.48\00:35:53.55 "The unnatural crime of Ham declared that filial 00:35:53.58\00:35:56.45 reverence --" the reverence of a child for his or her parent -- 00:35:56.45\00:35:59.85 "had long before been cast from his soul, and it revealed the 00:35:59.85\00:36:03.53 impurity --" whatever took place was impure -- "and the 00:36:03.53\00:36:07.13 vileness --" it was vile -- "of his character." 00:36:07.13\00:36:09.83 Boy, you'll spend the rest of the Sabbath afternoon trying to 00:36:09.83\00:36:12.40 figure that one out. I don't think we'll have to. 00:36:12.40\00:36:15.40 The point is... Ham goes back out to share the 00:36:15.40\00:36:21.24 delicious details to his two older brothers, and their 00:36:21.24\00:36:24.95 response, which is to take that blanket and do what they did -- 00:36:24.95\00:36:29.08 something's going on. 00:36:29.08\00:36:32.79 Now, Noah awakens out of his stupor. What is this? 00:36:32.82\00:36:37.29 This is verse 24. "When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest 00:36:37.29\00:36:44.40 son had done to him, he said, 'Cursed be Canaan!'" Ooh! 00:36:44.40\00:36:49.84 He didn't say, "Cursed by Ham." "Cursed be Canaan." This is not a blanket cursing of 00:36:49.84\00:36:55.21 all of Ham's children, no. He didn't curse the others. "Cursed 00:36:55.21\00:37:00.28 be Canaan." Remember, now, this is going to be the tribe -- these will be the pagans who 00:37:00.28\00:37:05.99 will take Israel down again and again. Lot's two daughters took 00:37:05.99\00:37:09.22 him down. Sodom and Gomorra was a Canaanite city. The Moabites 00:37:09.22\00:37:17.27 almost destroyed Israel just on the the brink of the Promised Land. Canaanites again. 00:37:17.27\00:37:20.80 The curse is not on Ham. You can't read it any other than it is -- he picked out one of 00:37:20.80\00:37:26.74 the children and said, "Watch this." Noah in advance -- 00:37:26.74\00:37:32.01 divinely inspired, obviously -- he traces forward the infestation of that sin, and the 00:37:32.01\00:37:41.56 rest is history. Mm. So, the curse is on Canaan, and now notice the blessing. 00:37:41.56\00:37:47.03 Verse 26. "And Noah also said, 'Praise be to the Lord, the God 00:37:47.03\00:37:52.03 of Shem!'" He does not praise Shem, he does not praise Japheth, he does not praise or 00:37:52.03\00:37:57.07 curse any of his boys, but he says, "The God of Shem, praise be to Him." What's up? 00:37:57.07\00:38:00.51 Ah, the God of Shem, who is he? Oh, he's the rainbow-covenant God, as we noted last week. 00:38:00.51\00:38:05.25 He's the God of love who has chosen the line of Shem through which to bring a knowledge of 00:38:05.25\00:38:10.95 Himself to the human race. Praise be to that God. My. 00:38:10.95\00:38:19.13 Verse 28 -- "And after the Flood, Noah lived 350 years. And Noah lived a total of 950 00:38:19.13\00:38:24.27 years, and then he died." The end. But you want to see 00:38:24.27\00:38:29.87 something really fascinating? I bet you do. I want to show it to 00:38:29.87\00:38:33.31 you. Never saw this before in my life. Perhaps you haven't 00:38:33.31\00:38:36.91 either. Doukhan again -- my friend Jacques. He says, "I want 00:38:36.91\00:38:40.42 you to notice the parallels between the story of Adam and Noah." Never seen this, but let 00:38:40.42\00:38:44.62 me run these by you. Number one, "Adam tends a garden, Noah grows 00:38:44.62\00:38:48.99 a vineyard." Oh. Number two, "Adam eats the fruit, Noah 00:38:48.99\00:38:52.86 drinks the fruit." Oh. Number three, "Adam, as a result of his action, is naked; Noah, 00:38:52.86\00:38:57.13 as a result of his action, is naked." Number four, "Adam's 00:38:57.13\00:39:00.94 nakedness, of which he is not aware, is revealed; Noah's nakedness, of which he is not 00:39:00.94\00:39:05.61 aware, is revealed." Number five, "A covering is provided for Adam's nakedness, a 00:39:05.61\00:39:09.88 covering is provided for Noah's nakedness." And finally, "Both 00:39:09.88\00:39:14.32 stories end in the same way, with a curse and a blessing." Something's going on here. 00:39:14.32\00:39:19.75 Something's being communicated to us. The infestation of the 00:39:19.75\00:39:24.26 original sin carries on from generation to generation to generation to generation to 00:39:24.26\00:39:29.70 generation. Guess what. You can have a global flood, cover the 00:39:29.70\00:39:33.50 world with water, scrub the Earth clean, but the humans who disembarked from the ark after 00:39:33.50\00:39:38.31 that Flood are still as infected as when they went onto that ark. The infestation is here. 00:39:38.31\00:39:44.48 It's Adam, Noah, you, me. That's the point. We're all infected. 00:39:44.48\00:39:50.72 The original sin, as it were, keeps on keepin' on. And it just keeps on keepin' on. 00:39:50.72\00:39:58.43 My. So, the compelling question is, how do we get out of sin's 00:39:58.43\00:40:03.67 terrible lockdown? How do we break this? You probably have a 00:40:03.67\00:40:07.80 family tree. I have a family tree. Which one of your sins came from your daddy? 00:40:07.80\00:40:10.37 Which one came from your mommy? You know we've blamed them along 00:40:10.37\00:40:16.68 the way. Come on. Unbreakable. Who's gonna pick this lock? You 00:40:16.68\00:40:22.42 remember Romans 5? I want to end with Romans 5. Come on. We were 00:40:22.42\00:40:26.19 just in Genesis 9. Now we go to Romans 5. This is that...summit in the New Testament, certainly 00:40:26.19\00:40:33.23 in the Book of Romans. Romans chapter five. I want to just 00:40:33.23\00:40:35.73 read a line -- three lines to you, three of them. Then you'll 00:40:35.73\00:40:38.37 see where this little "father to son to mother to daughter" business is going. Romans 5:12. 00:40:38.37\00:40:42.24 "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man..." 00:40:42.24\00:40:46.84 Who would that be? That would be Adam. "...and death through sin, and in this way death came to 00:40:46.84\00:40:51.91 all people because all sinned..." Adam, Noah, you, me -- we've all sinned, all of us. 00:40:51.91\00:40:58.85 Every single bloomin' one of us have sinned. Now drop down to 00:40:58.85\00:41:03.69 verse 15. But along comes the gift. "And the gift is not like 00:41:03.69\00:41:08.43 the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man --" that would be Adam -- 00:41:08.43\00:41:13.60 "how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus 00:41:13.60\00:41:18.61 Christ --" the second Adam -- "overflow to the many!" Oh, man, we've got two Adams 00:41:18.61\00:41:22.58 going here. We have an Adam through which we all got lost, 00:41:22.58\00:41:28.12 thanks to our participation with him, and we have a second Adam through which we all can be 00:41:28.12\00:41:33.09 saved. Drop down to verse 18, one more line. "Consequently, 00:41:33.09\00:41:37.06 just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people --" Adam -- "so also one righteous 00:41:37.06\00:41:42.06 act --" talking about Calvary and the Cross -- "resulted in justification --" that means to 00:41:42.06\00:41:45.73 be pardoned, to be forgiven, to be legally declared, "You are 00:41:45.73\00:41:50.84 emancipated! You are free! I've set you free." So, "...through 00:41:50.84\00:41:55.14 one righteous act resulted in justification and life --" for how many people does your Bible 00:41:55.14\00:42:00.25 say? Mine says "all." Guess what. The entire human race 00:42:00.25\00:42:03.69 emancipated by the gift of Calvary -- the entire human 00:42:03.69\00:42:07.82 race. Am I reading something into this? I am not. 00:42:07.82\00:42:10.33 The entire human race. My, my, my, my, my, my. What's going on 00:42:10.33\00:42:17.60 here? Ah. I had never heard of Juneteenth before a week ago. 00:42:17.60\00:42:30.28 A week ago yesterday was June 19th, and it's called 00:42:30.28\00:42:35.55 Juneteenth. All my life, how come nobody ever told me about this? Lot of people found out 00:42:35.55\00:42:39.35 about it. "What are you talking about, Dwight?" 00:42:39.35\00:42:41.46 Well, let me just read it to you. "Juneteenth --" okay, so I 00:42:41.46\00:42:44.66 got this on the Web. "Juneteenth is the oldest nationally 00:42:44.66\00:42:48.03 celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States, dating back to 1865. 00:42:48.03\00:42:52.90 It was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, 00:42:52.90\00:42:58.17 landed at Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now 00:42:58.17\00:43:04.41 free." Please note that this is now two and a half years after 00:43:04.41\00:43:08.62 President Abraham Lincoln has signed the Emancipation 00:43:08.62\00:43:12.82 Proclamation that went into effect January 1, 1863. Two and a half years later, the 00:43:12.82\00:43:17.49 slaves in Texas are hearing about it for the first time. My. 00:43:17.49\00:43:24.23 "You're free!" You've been free for two and a half years." 00:43:24.23\00:43:27.07 "Well, nobody told me." I want to take that history and look at 00:43:27.07\00:43:33.04 another history. I want to share a quotation with you from a book called "Ministry of Healing," 00:43:33.04\00:43:37.01 which is all about the healing ministry of Jesus. This is good, 00:43:37.01\00:43:41.02 so I'm gonna read this to you right now. "Jesus knows the circumstances of every soul." 00:43:41.02\00:43:45.25 And that is wonderfully assuring for me -- and I hope for you. He knows exactly why I do what I 00:43:45.25\00:43:50.03 do. He knows exactly why you do what you do. 00:43:50.03\00:43:52.53 He knows it. "The greater the sinner's guilt, the more he or 00:43:52.53\00:43:58.83 she needs the Savior." Isn't that something? The badder you 00:43:58.83\00:44:04.24 are, the more you need Him. Keep reading. "Jesus' heart of divine 00:44:04.24\00:44:08.34 love and sympathy is drawn out most of all -- most of all -- for the one who is the most 00:44:08.34\00:44:13.45 hopelessly entangled in the snares of the enemy." Some of you have been fighting 00:44:13.45\00:44:17.15 this enemy from the get-go. So have we all, but some of you have really had a fight on your 00:44:17.15\00:44:21.02 hand. We all have had it, but it's more obvious to you. 00:44:21.02\00:44:24.66 That entanglement, the more hopeless it feels, the more Jesus draws closer to you. 00:44:24.66\00:44:30.30 He's gonna set you free. He is going to deliver your soul. 00:44:30.30\00:44:35.44 Now, here comes the line. "With His own blood, He has signed the emancipation papers 00:44:35.44\00:44:42.31 of the race." Like those slaves in Texas, it is possible there 00:44:42.31\00:44:48.38 are human beings living today -- they may be living right next door to you -- who have never 00:44:48.38\00:44:53.62 heard that they have been set free from the slavery of sin -- never heard it at all. 00:44:53.62\00:44:57.86 You know what? Sometimes you and I act as if we've never heard it 00:44:57.86\00:45:01.10 either, like Calvary got signed 2,000 years ago and how come we're not living like we've been 00:45:01.10\00:45:06.53 set free? We're living like we're in bondage. 00:45:06.57\00:45:08.54 Every day, we mope through the day -- "I'm in bondage, I'm in 00:45:08.54\00:45:11.74 bondage." No, with His blood, He has 00:45:11.74\00:45:14.21 signed the emancipation papers of the race. 00:45:14.21\00:45:17.31 Calvary -- Calvary has set us free. 00:45:17.31\00:45:20.98 2,000 years ago. 00:45:20.98\00:45:24.55 Wow. There's a line right at the end of chapter five here in 00:45:24.59\00:45:34.10 Romans. And I like this in the Old King James, by the way. "But where sin abounded, grace 00:45:34.10\00:45:40.67 did --" what? Come on, help me out. "Where sin abounded, grace 00:45:40.67\00:45:45.17 did much more... abound." Yeah. 00:45:45.17\00:45:50.08 That's it. The more sin there is, the greater the outpouring 00:45:50.08\00:45:54.78 of grace. You can't out-sin grace. That's the point. Ah, 00:45:54.78\00:46:03.66 hallelujah. The first Adam got us into trouble, [Sighs] but the second Adam got us out. 00:46:03.66\00:46:09.70 Hallelujah. What do you say? Amen. Amen. No kidding. 00:46:09.70\00:46:14.00 And therein lies the glorious truth for Noah, for you, and for me, and -- listen, listen -- and 00:46:14.00\00:46:21.04 maybe for Ham. Would that bother you if Ham ended up getting 00:46:21.04\00:46:30.12 saved before he died? Is there some sin, sexual sin, too abhorrent, too gross for 00:46:30.12\00:46:36.09 Jesus to forgive? Is there some alcoholic too abhorrent, too 00:46:36.09\00:46:42.70 gross for Jesus to save? Of course not. Of course not. The truth is that Jesus, who 00:46:42.70\00:46:48.84 forgave Peter, would've forgiven Judas, if only Judas had asked. 00:46:48.84\00:46:55.14 Noah asked. How do we know that Noah asked? Because he ends up in the Bible Hall of Fame. 00:46:55.14\00:46:58.75 Oh, my, what a distinction. He is the only entry, probably, in the Bible's Hall of Fame who 00:46:58.75\00:47:03.39 unwittingly but unwisely drank himself into a naked stupor, and 00:47:03.39\00:47:07.49 he ends up in the Bible Hall of Fame because he asked and God 00:47:07.49\00:47:12.16 forgave him. Forgiven. "Where sin abounds grace does much more 00:47:13.80\00:47:20.84 abound." Oh, it doesn't get any better than that. But here's the 00:47:20.84\00:47:25.01 deal. Not only is there no sin that God cannot forget, there is no sin that you and I must 00:47:25.01\00:47:32.61 dillydally in dealing with. Come on. We're living closer to the 00:47:32.61\00:47:37.85 return of Jesus. This lockdown has just shown us that, if God 00:47:37.85\00:47:41.79 wants to pull the plug on the human race, He can do it globally in a matter of hours. 00:47:41.79\00:47:45.53 Gone. This is not the time to say, "Mañana." 00:47:45.53\00:47:49.83 This is the time to say, "Lord Jesus, get me out of this 00:47:49.83\00:47:53.87 lockdown. Get me out of the lockdown of sin. I bring my sin 00:47:53.87\00:47:58.64 to You. I bring it to the foot of Your Cross. This is Yours. 00:47:58.64\00:48:02.84 You take it. You died for me. I receive your death." ¤ At the Cross, at the Cross 00:48:02.84\00:48:07.68 ¤ Where I first saw the light ¤ And the burden of my heart 00:48:07.68\00:48:12.52 rolled away ¤ I love that -- at the Cross. Today we're going to the Cross in just a split 00:48:12.52\00:48:18.03 second. You get to go! You say, "I didn't get any kit." Don't worry about the kit. 00:48:18.03\00:48:22.16 You just go to the Cross. It's gonna be beautiful. And you'll 00:48:22.16\00:48:26.27 be blessed. Because in your mind and my mind, we're taking our sins -- nobody else knows it. 00:48:26.27\00:48:30.71 Nobody else knows those sins but God. We're taking our sins, and 00:48:30.71\00:48:34.24 we're laying them at the nail-scarred feet of Jesus, and we're saying, "You may have it. 00:48:34.24\00:48:38.18 All to Jesus I surrender. All to Him I freely give." God has victory for you, and you 00:48:38.18\00:48:43.35 can deal with it, and God will bring you through. He brought 00:48:43.35\00:48:48.22 Noah through. You may end up in the Hall of Fame yourself. Why 00:48:48.22\00:48:52.16 not? Today we'll go to that Cross, and we'll lay them there. It's a beautiful montage on the 00:48:52.16\00:48:58.37 Cross that our media team has very creatively put together. And when that's ended, in just a 00:48:58.37\00:49:04.01 few seconds, we'll be up there, and we'll be ready for the 00:49:04.01\00:49:09.01 Lord's Supper. I mean, look, we can't all be gathered 00:52:19.33\00:52:25.14 together here yet because of coronavirus, COVID-19. But yet 00:52:25.14\00:52:33.28 we still have to continue remembering and honoring the body that was broken for us, the 00:52:33.28\00:52:42.46 blood that was spilled for us, and that's why we're here today. Sitting down with our leadership team on 00:54:15.95\00:54:19.62 Monday, we said, "Listen, let's bring back that old hymn." We used to end the Lord's Supper 00:54:19.62\00:54:23.63 with this hymn years ago -- "Blessed be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love." 00:54:23.63\00:54:30.53 Because you know what?
