Over in the Philippines, there's an island called Palawan 00:12:16.63\00:12:24.44 -- Palawan. Beautiful island, long island, and a fisherman lived on the island, just a 00:12:24.44\00:12:27.88 young fisherman, and one day, he took his little fishing boat out -- Anybody here go fishing? 00:12:27.88\00:12:31.51 See the fishermen right here in our St. Joseph River? He went a 00:12:31.51\00:12:35.58 different kind of fishing. He put on his mask so he could hardly talk, and then he went 00:12:35.58\00:12:39.05 down into the water, and he did fishing. One day when he went 00:12:39.05\00:12:42.72 down under the water, he saw something strange at the bottom. 00:12:42.72\00:12:47.76 What is this? Does anybody know what this is? And he went back up to the top, grabbed air -- 00:12:47.76\00:12:51.83 [ Gasps, gurgling ] Down, down, down. Ohh. 00:12:51.83\00:12:56.77 I wonder if I can lift -- I wonder if I can lift this up. [ 00:12:56.77\00:13:04.01 Grunting ] [ Breathing heavily ] He threw it in his boat. Oh, it 00:13:04.01\00:13:07.98 was heavy. How he did it by himself, I do not know. He got 00:13:07.98\00:13:11.29 it in his boat, took it back. He said, "You know, this is really 00:13:11.29\00:13:13.39 strange. I've never seen anything like this in my whole life. What are you supposed to 00:13:13.39\00:13:16.22 do with something like this? I don't know. I hope the neighbors 00:13:16.22\00:13:18.76 don't see me." He waited till the neighbors weren't looking. 00:13:18.76\00:13:20.66 He got to his boat, and he picked it up. Ooh, it's heavy. 00:13:20.66\00:13:23.10 He quickly -- Anybody looking? He hurried to his little house by by the seashore, 00:13:23.10\00:13:30.67 and he slipped it inside, and when you have something that you don't know where it's 00:13:30.67\00:13:34.78 supposed to go, where do you put it? Under the bed. 00:13:34.78\00:13:38.01 That's where he put it, under -- Isn't that were you put stuff? 00:13:38.01\00:13:41.82 He put it under the bed. Now it'll be fine. And he just left 00:13:41.82\00:13:47.92 it there -- just left it there. Never took it out, didn't tell 00:13:47.92\00:13:51.13 anybody about it. Shh! How old is that vine? 00:25:04.73\00:25:06.87 >> Sixty years old. >> Sixty years. 00:25:06.87\00:25:08.60 >> Sixty. >> This vine has been here 00:25:08.60\00:25:10.34 for 60 years. >> Sixty years. 00:25:10.34\00:25:11.81 >> Unbelievable. And then -- where is it, over in France? 00:25:11.81\00:25:15.38 Tell me that other vine. >> Oh, over 400 years. >> There's a 00:25:15.38\00:25:19.98 vine on Earth over 400 years old. >> Yeah. >> Still producing 00:25:19.98\00:25:22.68 fruit? >> Oh, yeah. The ribosomes kind of feed the nutrients into the vine, 00:26:00.36\00:26:06.06 and it brings it up, and then it actually brings all of that 00:26:06.06\00:26:11.50 goodness into the fruit. >> Robin, refresh our memories. What's the purpose of 00:26:11.50\00:26:15.80 a vineyard? >> Produce fruit. >> Fruit. That's it? 00:26:15.80\00:26:18.47 >> Mm-hmm. >> No fruit, it's a worthless vineyard. 00:26:18.47\00:26:20.41 >> It's a worthless vineyard. What is this -- Verse 5? 00:30:38.87\00:30:46.27 "Grow up!" [ Scoffs ] 00:31:06.19\00:31:11.50 "Cheer up. Get up and eat. 00:31:11.50\00:31:14.20 Because I'm gonna get you that vineyard of Naboth 00:31:14.20\00:31:17.57 the Jezreelite." And so the wily, wicked Queen Jezebel gets 00:31:17.57\00:31:22.28 ahold of Ahab's personal stamp, grabs some parchments, scribbles 00:31:22.28\00:31:27.72 out a message to all the civic leaders in the town where Naboth 00:31:27.72\00:31:32.19 lives... stamps them. "Servant!" Oh, what does she say 00:31:32.19\00:31:39.39 in the letter? Oh, drop down to Verse 9. 00:31:39.39\00:31:42.16 [ Whooshes ] The letter's gone. And guess what? 00:32:02.18\00:32:06.12 It happens exactly as that woman in power dictates... because 00:32:06.12\00:32:13.76 people are afraid to stand up to a bellicose leader who threatens to ruin them if they do not give 00:32:13.76\00:32:21.64 him what he asks -- or her. 00:32:21.64\00:32:24.71 So, the town elders buckle. The scoundrels perjure themselves, 00:32:30.38\00:32:40.52 and Naboth... stoned and dead. Then the elders send a message 00:32:40.52\00:32:43.86 back. What is this? Verse 14. 00:32:43.86\00:32:45.76 And, by the way, if you read 2 Kings 9, you find out that they not only stone Naboth 00:32:49.96\00:32:54.34 to death, they stoned all his sons, as well. Nobody is gonna 00:32:54.34\00:32:59.34 now come up and say, "By the way, I'm next of kin." Nope. 00:32:59.34\00:33:01.81 There's nobody to lay claim. Wow. 00:33:01.81\00:33:10.99 Verse 15. 00:33:11.15\00:33:12.55 "Guess what?" 00:33:22.16\00:33:23.40 I want to tell you something about Jezebel. She's an 00:33:31.84\00:33:36.34 apocalyptic symbol in the New Testament. She's so bad that she makes it into the Bible... 00:33:36.34\00:33:42.15 at the end in the Book of Revelation when there will be 00:33:42.15\00:33:46.15 another Jezebel who will rise up. She, like the wicked Queen 00:33:46.15\00:33:50.96 Jezebel the First, brings her rank and immoral paganism, and through her alliance and 00:33:50.96\00:33:57.53 marriage with a believing king of Israel, she infects, she poisons the entire nation until 00:33:57.53\00:34:06.07 the pure religion of the nation is subsumed, contaminated, corrupted by a dangerous 00:34:06.07\00:34:16.15 syncretism, where immorality... can become an offense against 00:34:16.15\00:34:31.27 innocent young. Syncretism. Bring it all together and make 00:34:31.27\00:34:37.37 it look hunky-dory when it's sick to the core. That's Jezebel. And Elijah -- Oh, yeah. 00:34:37.37\00:34:45.05 There's an Elijah in this story. Verse 17. 00:34:45.05\00:34:48.72 We're talking about the man from Mount Carmel. You remember that? 00:34:51.45\00:34:54.66 All 400 -- What was it -- 400 plus 450? 850 priests of Baal 00:34:54.66\00:35:00.90 arrayed against him. Kneels down. Fire descends from Heaven. 00:35:00.90\00:35:05.43 Nukes the summit of Mount Carmel, proving the God of 00:35:05.43\00:35:09.44 Israel is still the Living God and Creator. That's the same Elijah -- bushy-bearded, 00:35:09.44\00:35:16.75 camel-haired prophet, who, himself, becomes a symbol of a generation at the end of time 00:35:16.75\00:35:22.08 who will be called the Elijah Generation. You know why they're called the Elijah Generation? 00:35:22.08\00:35:26.05 Because this generation will have the guts to stand up to a Jezebel also at the end 00:35:26.05\00:35:32.39 of time, and this generation will say, "Here we stand, so 00:35:32.39\00:35:39.60 help us God." Oh, there'll be -- There'll be the showdown. One day even in America, 00:35:39.60\00:35:45.44 there will be a showdown. Ahab. Corrupted religion. 00:35:45.44\00:35:51.78 Jezebel. Corruption. And a nation at the crossroads. 00:35:51.78\00:35:59.05 So God shows up to Elijah. He says, "Elijah, you're not gonna 00:35:59.05\00:36:02.52 believe this." Yep. Here comes the message now. Verse 18. 00:36:02.52\00:36:04.63 "I want you to go down to meet Ahab, the king of Israel, who 00:36:04.63\00:36:08.20 rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth's vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it. 00:36:08.20\00:36:11.63 And I want you to say to him, 'This is what the Lord says: Have you not murdered a man and 00:36:11.63\00:36:15.30 seized his property?' Then say to him, 'This is what the Lord 00:36:15.30\00:36:18.64 says: In the place where the dogs licked up Naboth's blood, dogs will lick up your blood -- 00:36:18.64\00:36:22.18 yes, yours!'" And, oh, by the way, did I tell you? This tale is not a bedtime story 00:36:22.18\00:36:26.25 for your children. [ Light laughter ] Why? 00:36:26.25\00:36:30.09 Because what's happening in this tale. Now, listen carefully. 00:36:30.09\00:36:32.52 What's happening in this tale is divine judgment is about to be 00:36:32.52\00:36:36.69 meted out. Every story doesn't end, "And they lived happily 00:36:36.69\00:36:42.46 ever after." Why would God send this message? I mean, this is -- this is -- this is tough stuff. 00:36:42.46\00:36:51.17 You know why? Because God is risking a message that tough to 00:36:51.17\00:37:00.08 illicit a response this desperate. You watch. So there's 00:37:00.08\00:37:05.55 Ahab strolling the same rolling vineyard aisles. 00:37:05.55\00:37:09.09 And Verse 20 on the screen. And... 00:37:09.09\00:37:12.16 Oops. Guilty conscience. "You're my enemy." 00:37:17.33\00:37:22.17 No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, Ahab. He's not your enemy. 00:37:22.17\00:37:25.61 Elijah is your friend. The woman, your consort, is your 00:37:25.61\00:37:32.01 enemy. Elijah is here through the desperation as a final judgment message in hope 00:37:32.01\00:37:37.22 and prayer that somehow your heart might be arrested. He is your friend to lead you 00:37:37.22\00:37:42.06 back to God. And Elijah issues the call. You read it there for 00:37:42.06\00:37:57.04 yourselves -- Verse 21, Verse 22, Verse 23, Verse 24. "Dogs -- Dogs will consume your 00:37:57.04\00:38:05.08 blood, will consume Jezebel's blood, will consume the blood of your corrupted family, 00:38:05.08\00:38:11.92 and if you miss the city, and you're out in the country, the birds will eat you." 00:38:11.92\00:38:17.86 Now, this is so stiff -- I want you to notice this in Verse 25 00:38:17.86\00:38:21.53 -- that the chronicler, whoever he is, says, "Hey, reader. I know you're really upset 00:38:21.53\00:38:25.47 right now with God. I need you to know something." Verse 25. 00:38:25.47\00:38:28.27 In parentheses, "(There was never --)" By the way, remember, 00:38:28.27\00:38:32.01 reader. "(There was never anyone like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, 00:38:32.01\00:38:37.31 urged on by Jezebel his wife. He behaved in the vilest manner by 00:38:37.31\00:38:42.98 going after idols, like the Amorites --)," which were the height of vice immorality in its 00:38:42.98\00:38:50.23 worse form. He went after them and said, "I'll embrace that 00:38:50.23\00:38:59.20 into my religion." God sends a message. And, oh, my. Look at 00:38:59.20\00:39:05.14 Verse 27. You can't believe it. Verse 27. Come on. 00:39:05.14\00:39:07.91 That's why God uses judgment messages. That's why He warns 00:39:15.52\00:39:19.45 people. That's why He says, "If you keep this up, you're gonna end in a rotten story." 00:39:19.45\00:39:25.79 He did it to Nineveh, and it worked. He did it to Ahab, 00:39:25.79\00:39:30.40 and it worked. Some people are always trying to defend God's 00:39:30.40\00:39:34.37 reputation by saying, "Oh, skip the judgment part. Skip the 00:39:34.37\00:39:37.47 judgment part." Never skip the judgment part. That's the part that works. And it worked. 00:39:37.47\00:39:43.38 And Ahab now is dust, sackcloth, and ashes, and he's bowing, 00:39:43.38\00:39:49.02 weeping before -- "God have mercy on me." God comes back to Elijah, and He says, "Time-out. 00:39:49.02\00:39:55.39 Change of plan." Verse 28. 00:39:55.39\00:39:58.79 God's soft heart -- Can you believe that? -- 00:40:12.54\00:40:15.21 is actually touched by the tears of a repentant, evil monarch. 00:40:15.21\00:40:22.02 And God calls off the dogs, literally, and delays 00:40:22.02\00:40:25.09 the judgment... Wow. 00:40:25.09\00:40:28.82 ...because of Ahab's genuine tears of repentance. 00:40:28.82\00:40:32.73 Amazing story of amazing, amazing grace. 00:40:32.73\00:40:37.43 What do you say? Amazing grace. No man, no woman -- 00:40:37.60\00:40:41.67 We now know the truth. No one can sink so low that she, that he is beyond the reach 00:40:41.67\00:40:48.44 of God's saving grace and redeeming love to which I say, 00:40:48.44\00:40:54.72 Amen. Amen. The truth. Because it's the truth 00:40:54.72\00:40:58.55 of the vineyard. 00:40:58.55\00:41:00.36 Interestingly enough, the vineyard Ahab stole 00:41:00.52\00:41:05.43 offers the very hope Ahab needs. Jesus talked about the vineyard 00:41:05.43\00:41:12.07 just before they executed Him. 00:41:12.07\00:41:14.64 Turn to the New Testament now. We got the tale, but is there 00:41:14.80\00:41:18.97 any point to this? Turn to the New Testament. John Chapter 15. Less than 24 hours before Jesus 00:41:18.97\00:41:23.68 will be dead and buried at this time tomorrow night. This is 00:41:23.68\00:41:28.98 Passover night. This is Thursday. This is full Moon, 00:41:28.98\00:41:32.42 silver shadows. Jesus is making His way to Gethsemane. He stops 00:41:32.42\00:41:34.92 by a trellis, and He says, "Hey, guys. Come here, come here, come 00:41:34.92\00:41:37.69 here, come here. I want to show you something. I want to to teach you something." 00:41:37.69\00:41:41.16 And He points to the trellis, and He speaks. John Chapter 15. 00:41:41.16\00:41:47.80 Bright-red letters in mine. John 15:1. 00:41:47.80\00:41:51.61 "Nothing." 00:42:16.87\00:42:18.43 Wow. One of the great devotional writers of the 19th Century, 00:42:21.30\00:42:28.61 his name Andrew Murray, wrote a book. If I could give the book 00:42:28.61\00:42:32.51 to everybody, I'd give the book to you. It's called 00:42:32.51\00:42:35.42 "Abide in Christ." He makes such a profound point that I still 00:42:35.42\00:42:40.22 can't -- I still can't comprehend its depth, but I want to share the profound point with 00:42:40.22\00:42:45.36 you, and then I'll sit down. Andrew Murray. You got a Study 00:42:45.36\00:42:49.23 Guide? Yes, you do. There's a Study Guide in your Worship 00:42:49.23\00:42:52.13 Bulletin. Pull it out right now. Study Guide in your Worship 00:42:52.13\00:42:54.94 Bulletin. We're gonna go -- Those of you watching on live-stream, watching 00:42:54.94\00:42:58.64 on television somewhere, we're glad to have you. 00:42:58.64\00:43:02.08 I'll put the website on the screen for you. 00:43:02.24\00:43:04.35 You see it there right now -- www.newperceptions.tv. 00:43:04.35\00:43:08.42 You're looking for a new series called "Tales From A Vineyard." 00:43:08.42\00:43:11.99 The title of this particular segment -- "Cry Baby, Cry." 00:43:11.99\00:43:18.99 When you go there, click onto that, [Snaps fingers] 00:43:18.99\00:43:20.90 you'll have the Study Guide, the identical one we have. 00:43:20.90\00:43:23.30 Now, here's a sentence to kind of set up Murray's four arguments that he will use 00:43:23.47\00:43:30.27 to bolster this provocative point that comes only at the 00:43:30.27\00:43:32.91 end. All right, jot this down. 00:43:32.91\00:43:34.31 In your Study Guide -- Andrew Murray. 00:43:34.48\00:43:35.94 "So close is the union between the vine and the branch --" 00:43:35.94\00:43:38.65 Speaking of Jesus' teaching -- "that each is nothing --" 00:43:38.65\00:43:41.72 write in "nothing," please -- "that each is nothing 00:43:41.72\00:43:44.29 without the other, that each is wholly 00:43:44.29\00:43:46.92 and only for the other." Okay, [Claps hands] good. 00:43:46.92\00:43:50.33 Four bolstering arguments now. Here they come. 00:43:50.33\00:43:52.46 Jot them down. One, two, three, four. 00:43:52.46\00:43:54.76 Number one. 00:43:54.76\00:43:55.83 That's a no-brainer. That's -- Come on. 00:43:59.57\00:44:02.80 We just saw it. If there's no vine there, 00:44:02.80\00:44:05.11 what are the branches? Zero, nada, nothing. 00:44:05.11\00:44:07.78 You can't exist. That's the first point. 00:44:07.78\00:44:12.01 "Without the vine, the branch can do nothing." 00:44:12.01\00:44:13.75 "Apart from Me," Jesus says -- Come on. Come on, guys. 00:44:13.75\00:44:16.25 "Apart from Me, zero. You can't do it apart from Me, 00:44:16.25\00:44:20.86 without Me." 00:44:20.86\00:44:22.09 I mean, you think about Jesus -- this Pearl of Great Price. What's up with that? 00:44:22.26\00:44:27.60 There would be no conviction of sin if it weren't for Jesus. You and I would just keep 00:44:27.60\00:44:31.40 drinking the poison until we died. [ Slurping ] 00:44:31.40\00:44:33.60 We wouldn't know the difference. And if there were no conviction of sin, then there could be 00:44:33.60\00:44:37.07 no repentance, and if there could be no repentance, then there's no forgiveness. 00:44:37.07\00:44:40.14 We'll just go on self-medicating ourselves with our favorite drug 00:44:40.14\00:44:46.82 and just goodbye. And if there's no forgiveness, there's no cleansing. We live with this 00:44:46.82\00:44:50.72 feeling of filthiness night and day. But Jesus said, "I could wash all that away." 00:44:50.72\00:44:54.62 There'll be no peace. There'll be no fruit. There'll be no 00:44:54.62\00:44:59.29 hope, no love, no grace, no nothing. "Apart from Me, you can 00:44:59.29\00:45:03.63 do nothing." There are four of these. That's the first one. 00:45:03.63\00:45:06.37 Here comes Number 2. Jot it down. 00:45:08.30\00:45:10.37 "Nothing." Now, this is gonna catch you 00:45:14.74\00:45:17.48 by surprise. This keeps going deeper. 00:45:17.48\00:45:18.91 This will catch you by surprise 'cause you're always thinking 00:45:18.91\00:45:21.08 about the vine, but do you know what? 00:45:21.08\00:45:22.52 The vine can do nothing without the branch, and you're 00:45:22.52\00:45:24.49 the branch. Go figure. 00:45:24.49\00:45:25.42 Put it on the screen, please. Andrew Murray. 00:45:25.42\00:45:27.72 Come on. "Such is the wonderful 00:45:37.50\00:45:38.97 condescension of the grace of Jesus that, just as His 00:45:38.97\00:45:41.24 people --" you and I -- "are dependent on Him, 00:45:41.24\00:45:43.87 He has made Himself --" jot it down -- 00:45:43.87\00:45:45.71 "dependent on us." Figure that one. 00:45:45.71\00:45:49.48 He depended on us? Please. 00:45:49.48\00:45:52.01 "Without His disciples, He cannot dispense --" 00:45:52.01\00:45:54.32 Oh, "He cannot dispense His blessing to the world; 00:45:54.32\00:45:56.42 He cannot offer sinners the grapes of the heavenly 00:45:56.42\00:45:58.82 Canaan." 00:45:58.82\00:45:59.89 Every good gift that God longs to give to every man, woman, and child on this planet -- 00:46:00.12\00:46:04.16 Guess what? If He has nobody there to grow the fruit, they'll 00:46:04.16\00:46:09.76 never get it. You want to reach a secular? You want to reach an atheist? You just live your 00:46:09.76\00:46:15.17 relationship with Jesus, because that's how atheists are reached. They're not reached by somebody 00:46:15.17\00:46:18.47 proving something from the Bible. They're reached because 00:46:18.47\00:46:20.91 they say, "That man has something that I want. That woman, there's something -- 00:46:20.91\00:46:24.58 There's a calm inside of her soul, and I want that." That's what leads them to -- 00:46:24.58\00:46:29.32 The fruit is what draws them to the vine. You're not the big 00:46:29.32\00:46:32.75 deal, the vine's the big deal. Wow. Okay, Number 3. 00:46:32.75\00:46:35.69 There are only four of these. Number 3. 00:46:35.69\00:46:37.93 "All the vine possesses --" Oh, this is something. 00:46:37.93\00:46:41.30 "All the vine possesses belongs to the branches." 00:46:41.30\00:46:45.77 Everything the vine possesses, it's yours. 00:46:45.77\00:46:48.37 Come on. On the screen -- Andrew Murray. 00:46:48.37\00:46:50.61 "All the vine has is at the disposal of the branches. 00:46:50.61\00:46:54.58 As the vine is the parent, so the vine is the servant 00:46:54.58\00:46:57.35 of the branches. 00:46:57.35\00:46:58.58 Isn't that amazing? Are you getting that? 00:47:10.86\00:47:14.40 Amazing. Everything the vine has, I give it to you. 00:47:14.56\00:47:18.87 Come on. We looked at the pearl under the bed. 00:47:18.87\00:47:20.70 $100 million -- I give it to you. Everything I am, I give to 00:47:20.70\00:47:25.64 you. Come on. What is it that you want from Jesus? 00:47:25.64\00:47:28.04 "I wish Jesus would give me His courage." [ Chuckles ] 00:47:28.04\00:47:30.71 You got it. Just ask Him. He has all the courage you need. 00:47:30.71\00:47:33.75 "I wish He would give me His faith and trust." The faith of 00:47:33.75\00:47:36.42 Jesus, you can have it. It's yours for the asking. "I wish He would give me peace 00:47:36.42\00:47:40.56 and calm in the midst of this, this raging storm I'm going through right now." 00:47:40.56\00:47:45.13 Just ask for it. He'll get up and He'll say, "Peace. Be still. 00:47:45.13\00:47:48.43 Please, please, storm, stop." All that He has, you may have 00:47:48.43\00:47:53.20 it. Look at this as I read it on the screen. 00:47:53.20\00:47:56.10 Keep reading. 00:48:02.38\00:48:03.78 Here it comes. 00:48:09.55\00:48:10.95 Last line. "The whole treasury --" 00:48:13.12\00:48:15.42 write that in. "The whole treasury of heaven 00:48:15.42\00:48:20.53 is open to those He seeks to save." And, by the way, do you 00:48:20.53\00:48:24.10 know what His greatest gift is? No kidding. Do you know what His 00:48:24.10\00:48:27.00 greatest gift is? If you wanted one gift that would give you 00:48:27.00\00:48:29.84 every other gift that He has, here's the one gift. It's the 00:48:29.84\00:48:32.77 gift of the Holy Spirit. If you get the Holy Spirit, you got 00:48:32.77\00:48:36.54 everything. Put it up, please, the next quotation on the 00:48:36.54\00:48:38.78 screen. "Desire of Ages," page 672. "This promised blessing --" 00:48:38.78\00:48:41.18 speaking of the Holy Spirit -- "brings all other blessings 00:48:41.18\00:48:43.99 in its train," in its wake, "according to the riches 00:48:43.99\00:48:46.82 of the grace of Christ." One gift gives you everything. "Man, if I knew that were true, 00:48:46.82\00:48:52.69 I'd be asking for that gift every morning." Me too. 00:48:52.69\00:48:57.40 Why wouldn't you ask? Okay, there are only four of these. 00:48:57.40\00:49:00.90 Here comes Number 4. 00:49:00.90\00:49:02.80 Just as all the vine possesses belongs to the branches -- 00:49:02.97\00:49:06.07 turnaround's fair play. Finally, Number 4. 00:49:06.07\00:49:08.94 "And all the branch possesses belongs to the vine." 00:49:08.94\00:49:12.05 Now, keep reading. Andrew Murray again... 00:49:12.05\00:49:14.45 That vine in France -- Isn't that something? That's a very 00:49:21.79\00:49:24.59 special vine, and they've kept it going 400 years it's so 00:49:24.59\00:49:30.63 excellent. Huh. "It has not reason --" the branch -- "has 00:49:30.80\00:49:34.04 not reason for existence except to be of service to the vine. 00:49:34.04\00:49:37.21 As Jesus gives Himself so wholly over to the believer, 00:49:37.21\00:49:39.57 the believer feels himself urged to be wholly his Lord's." 00:49:39.57\00:49:42.54 "Eh, Dwight. I don't like that. I just don't like that. 00:49:51.25\00:49:53.42 You know why? Because it makes me dependent all the way 00:49:53.42\00:49:56.62 through. Listen, I worked hard this summer to earn that car that I brought back 00:49:56.62\00:49:59.59 to university. I worked hard all summer long to buy that old heap 00:49:59.59\00:50:06.03 of junk. Tell me that I don't possess anything." Oh, excuse 00:50:06.03\00:50:10.81 me. Just one moment. [ Imitates heart beating ] "What's that?" 00:50:10.81\00:50:14.14 Oh, that's my heart. "You keeping it going?" No. Don't 00:50:14.14\00:50:17.55 know how. "Oh." Everything you possess. $1.5-million retirement 00:50:17.55\00:50:25.29 portfolio. Good for you. You've really been working hard. 00:50:25.29\00:50:27.89 You have that money saved up -- $1.5 million. "That's mine, by 00:50:27.89\00:50:31.73 the way, Dwight. I have worked hard for that." Excuse me again, 00:50:31.73\00:50:35.53 please. [ Imitates heart beating ] "What's that?" Oh, that's just 00:50:35.53\00:50:39.60 my heart. "You keeping it going?" No. All your material 00:50:39.60\00:50:44.81 possessions -- Come on. Who gave you the power to earn them? 00:50:44.81\00:50:47.78 Oh, forget it. Listen. This is a poor university. We can't talk 00:50:47.78\00:50:50.95 about material possessions. Let's talk about intellectual 00:50:50.95\00:50:53.82 possessions. Boy, we got some bright minds on this campus. Oh, 00:50:53.82\00:50:57.35 my, do we ever. All your intellectual abilities, all your intellectual skills, all the 00:50:57.35\00:51:01.62 intellect, all the knowledge that you've accumulated, all your giftedness, your talent... 00:51:01.62\00:51:10.33 you got it from Him. You got it from Him. That means any talent 00:51:10.33\00:51:14.20 that you have, He says, "I'm gonna give it to that boy. I'm gonna give it to that girl. 00:51:14.20\00:51:17.34 You know why? Because I know where she's going, and in her 00:51:17.34\00:51:21.34 life, she will need this to be what I need her to be." Every intellectual gift you have 00:51:21.34\00:51:26.78 came from Him. He's dreamed about you for centuries. 00:51:26.78\00:51:30.45 You believe that? He has dreamed about you for centuries. 00:51:30.45\00:51:35.29 He has set generations in motion so that one day it would create 00:51:35.29\00:51:39.93 the DNA that is you. Your mommy and daddy -- He's been working 00:51:39.93\00:51:43.10 on that line for generations. He had to get your mommy and daddy 00:51:43.10\00:51:45.63 -- I don't care how accidental it was. He had to get your mommy 00:51:45.63\00:51:48.97 and daddy together to get you because you're a combination, through eternity, He has 00:51:48.97\00:51:54.44 dreamed of possessing. I'm gonna show you that in one second. 00:51:54.44\00:51:59.68 So you belong to Him. He has invested everything for you to 00:51:59.68\00:52:08.79 live and to use the gifts that you have, and is there a more gifted campus in the world than 00:52:08.79\00:52:14.10 the Andrews University campus? All those gifts for Him. Okay, 00:52:14.10\00:52:21.44 there they are -- four bolstering arguments. Now comes the profound point. I'll share 00:52:21.44\00:52:27.28 this with you, then I'll sit down. Here's the profound point. I'm gonna let Andrew Murray 00:52:27.28\00:52:31.05 make the point himself. Final fill-in-the-blank. There it is 00:52:31.05\00:52:35.12 at the bottom. There they are. And these are now his words, 00:52:35.12\00:52:40.39 these four. He summarizes them. "Now let your answer be --" 00:52:40.39\00:52:43.09 in the light of this -- "let your answer be, 00:52:43.09\00:52:45.76 'Amen, Lord! So be it.'" Now here comes the line 00:52:45.76\00:52:49.83 that I still can't -- I can't fathom this. 00:52:49.83\00:52:52.43 "'From eternity Christ and I were meant -- 00:52:52.43\00:52:55.47 we were ordained -- were were meant 00:52:55.47\00:52:57.87 for each other; inseparably we belong 00:52:57.87\00:53:01.81 to each other. It is God's will; 00:53:01.81\00:53:04.61 I shall abide in Christ.'" Can you believe that? No, seriously. 00:53:04.61\00:53:12.05 Maybe it's not centuries ago God began planning you. Maybe it is 00:53:12.05\00:53:16.73 from eternity, and He knew the configurations that would finally produce you. Everything 00:53:16.73\00:53:25.03 you have belongs to Him because He's equipping you to be the most successful you -- beyond 00:53:25.03\00:53:29.60 your wildest dreams to be that kind of success on this planet. 00:53:29.60\00:53:34.61 It's all for Me. All I have is yours, and all you have is Mine. We'll get along famously. 00:53:34.61\00:53:39.18 We will be inseparable, and that's the word that made me 00:53:39.18\00:53:43.32 stop. Man, oh, man, oh, man. "We will be inseparable. We belong to each other, Dwight. 00:53:43.32\00:53:50.69 Do you understand that? You and me, we belong to each other. 00:53:50.69\00:53:55.30 I knew you were coming. I've been working on this for 00:53:55.30\00:53:58.77 generations. You're here. We belong. You put your name in it. 00:53:58.77\00:54:03.34 We belong to each other." I can't figure it out. I have no way to explain this. 00:54:03.34\00:54:12.85 I just know that on the way to His execution, Jesus stopped at a midnight vineyard, 00:54:12.85\00:54:17.85 and He said, "Hey, guys. Look at this. You and Me... 00:54:17.85\00:54:23.86 forever. 00:54:23.86\00:54:24.93 Do you understand that? Forever. 00:54:25.09\00:54:28.40 You connected to Me, Me connected to you." 00:54:28.40\00:54:31.27 I don't understand that. And I don't know that you 00:54:31.27\00:54:35.14 realize how profound this teaching is, and I must tell 00:54:35.14\00:54:38.07 you, I absolutely realize I am unable to communicate 00:54:38.07\00:54:41.08 how utterly essential this discovery today is for you. 00:54:41.08\00:54:45.51 I just can't do it. I just can't. 00:54:45.51\00:54:48.18 Somebody will have to do it to you. Somebody will have to do it 00:54:48.35\00:54:50.95 in your mind. It's His business. But here's what I know. 00:54:50.95\00:54:54.86 I know that the daily baptism of the Holy Spirit is the only way Jesus can abide in me 00:54:54.86\00:55:03.77 and I can abide in Him -- only through the daily baptism of the 00:55:03.77\00:55:08.90 Holy Spirit. There's no other way. No other way. And if that's 00:55:08.90\00:55:14.54 the case, and He's planned for you for eternity, and now you're here, girl, boy, now you're 00:55:14.54\00:55:20.18 here. If that's the case, and this is the only way, 00:55:20.18\00:55:23.69 then ask for it. Pray this little prayer every day, and 00:55:23.69\00:55:28.42 you'll be asking for the daily baptism of the Holy Spirit. We had it on the screen 00:55:28.42\00:55:31.23 last week. May I return it before I sit down? 00:55:31.23\00:55:32.86 Put it on the screen, please. Here's the prayer. 00:55:32.86\00:55:34.46 "Lord, please abide in me, and please let me abide in You." 00:55:34.46\00:55:38.83 That's it. Just ask. Simple? Of course. 00:55:38.83\00:55:43.71 You know my problem? I'll tell you. When somebody comes and 00:55:43.71\00:55:47.48 tells me, "Hey, Dwight. I got this plan," if the plan is 00:55:47.48\00:55:50.85 simple -- if the plan is simple -- I'm just telling you about me -- I immediately dismiss it. 00:55:50.85\00:55:56.25 You can't make life -- You cannot simplify life that way because our complicated 00:55:56.25\00:56:02.02 world has taught us to believe that it's only in complication that progress is made. 00:56:02.02\00:56:08.16 It's not true. It's simple. Let me abide in You, 00:56:08.16\00:56:13.60 and you abide in me... and we will be inseparable for eternity, I promise you. 00:56:13.60\00:56:23.55 Can you put that prayer back on the screen one more time, 00:56:23.55\00:56:26.82 please? "Lord, please abide in me, and please let me abide in You." Pray that prayer morning, 00:56:26.82\00:56:37.36 noon, night -- whatever. Pray that prayer every day, and you will never be the same 00:56:37.36\00:56:43.43 again. I promise you. That's the little I have found 00:56:43.43\00:56:50.97 out -- you'll never be the same. 00:56:50.97\00:56:54.28 >> Before you go, let me take an extra moment to share 00:56:58.21\00:57:00.38 with you an opportunity to get into the Bible in a fresh, 00:57:00.38\00:57:02.58 new way.
