Perfect! 00:11:55.34\00:12:00.05 So, we're coming back this week from California, where we were to say goodbye to my mother -- 00:12:00.05\00:12:07.02 coming back late in the night to O'Hare Airport, where our car is parked, and then we drive the 00:12:07.02\00:12:12.83 long drive to Berrien Springs. So, we get our bags. We come out 00:12:12.83\00:12:19.43 from the baggage. We go across to -- They have a train station in O'Hare. It's called a tram. 00:12:19.43\00:12:24.84 They have a train up on a high track, and that train goes to terminal 1, terminal 2, terminal 00:12:24.84\00:12:30.15 3, terminal 5, and then to the remote -- to the faraway parking, where our car was. 00:12:30.15\00:12:35.75 So, we went down under the track, waiting for the train... and waiting for the train. 00:12:35.75\00:12:41.26 And, finally, there was a voice over the PA. "Thank you for your 00:12:41.26\00:12:44.43 patience. The tracks are being repaired. Our train will be with 00:12:44.43\00:12:47.36 you shortly." "Aw, great. This is the night when they're repairing the tracks. 00:12:47.36\00:12:50.43 Isn't that something?" So we keep waiting. A friend of ours 00:12:50.43\00:12:53.40 named Darius Jankiewicz, he comes down, and, you know, he's standing with us, and we're all 00:12:53.40\00:12:57.57 yakking away. It felt like hours were going by. 00:12:57.57\00:13:00.18 No, it's just maybe 20, 30 minutes. I don't know. 00:13:00.18\00:13:02.74 Another PA -- "Thank you for your patience. We are working on 00:13:02.74\00:13:06.48 the tracks. The train will be with you shortly." "Well, that's 00:13:06.48\00:13:08.82 the third time you've said it -- or fourth." And about 20, 30 minutes later, [Exhales deeply] 00:13:08.82\00:13:14.36 here comes a tram. No engineers on the tram. These things are 00:13:14.36\00:13:17.49 run by computer. So we get -- [Exhales deeply] Doors open. 00:13:17.49\00:13:20.00 Now the platform is just crowded. Everybody pushes into 00:13:20.00\00:13:22.90 the train because a lot of people have been coming. And so we're crowded into the 00:13:22.90\00:13:26.07 train. Now [Exhales sharply] the doors close behind us. 00:13:26.07\00:13:28.94 [ Exhales deeply ] The train begins to move. But something 00:13:28.94\00:13:33.44 very interesting happens when we're leaving station number 2. And that is, as we get -- The 00:13:33.44\00:13:39.35 doors close. More people are on board. As we get past the 00:13:39.35\00:13:43.55 station, there's a little X there. There's an X in the tracks. That means the train 00:13:43.55\00:13:48.09 that's on this track goes to this one and the train that's on this track goes to that. 00:13:48.09\00:13:51.36 So the X is to help the train change to the other track. We're 00:13:51.36\00:13:55.03 now taking the X. We're in the middle of the X when all of a sudden -- [ Sputtering, clicking 00:13:55.03\00:13:59.90 tongue ] [ Exhales deeply ] Power went off! Power went off! 00:13:59.90\00:14:07.21 We're on the X -- part on one track, part on the other. Not so 00:14:07.21\00:14:15.12 bad... except I look out the window, and I say, "Darius, do 00:14:15.12\00:14:18.12 you see that? There's another train coming this way. It's 00:14:18.12\00:14:21.29 coming this way. It has no engineer. It can't see a thing! It's just gonna keep coming, and 00:14:21.29\00:14:24.86 it's gonna hit -- it's gonna hit the cars behind us that are on 00:14:24.86\00:14:30.10 its track!" [ Inhales deeply ] "Hold on!" But all of a 00:14:30.10\00:14:35.97 sudden... [ Sputtering, clicking tongue ] Its lights went out. [ 00:14:35.97\00:14:41.84 Exhales deeply ] Stop. There's nobody to ask questions. The people in the other car are 00:14:53.36\00:14:56.62 looking at us. We're looking at them. "Yo. 00:14:56.62\00:14:58.46 No, no, we're not going either. Mnh-mnh." Waiting, waiting, 00:14:58.46\00:15:02.46 waiting. 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 3 hours -- well, it felt like 00:15:02.46\00:15:06.63 three hours. It's really only about -- [ Laughter ] 20 minutes, 30 minutes. 00:15:06.63\00:15:11.21 Nothing, nothing. We don't know anything, when, all of a sudden, 00:15:11.21\00:15:14.28 [Exhales deeply] our doors open. "Whoa! That's a long ways down! 00:15:14.28\00:15:17.98 Don't go there! [ Imitating pitter-patter ] [ 00:15:22.62\00:15:25.89 Gulps ] She jumps in. "Whew!" Oh, it is bad news to be stuck on the track with no 00:15:58.02\00:16:04.86 power. Because when you have no power, you're going nowhere. No 00:16:04.86\00:16:13.10 power, nowhere. Oh, I don't want to be stuck on the track of this Earth with a storm coming and 00:16:13.10\00:16:19.17 going nowhere. I want power. And your mommies and daddies are studying a lesson this very 00:16:19.17\00:16:23.21 month about the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, "But when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you 00:16:23.21\00:16:27.72 will have...power." Acts 1. Jesus says, "I'm not gonna leave 00:16:27.72\00:16:32.22 you stuck on the tracks. I'm not gonna leave you with a storm 00:16:32.22\00:16:35.26 coming. I'm gonna give power." You're gonna have power right 00:16:35.26\00:16:40.96 through the storm. Oh, what a Jesus. Aren't you glad that He doesn't leave us stuck on the 00:16:40.96\00:16:44.83 track? Aren't you glad He has the power? How many want to say, 00:16:44.83\00:16:48.07 "Thank You, Jesus, for that power, for the Holy Spirit"? And with the other hand, say, 00:16:48.07\00:16:52.01 "Jesus, please fill me with that spirit." It's an op-ed piece written by 00:23:46.96\00:23:54.83 Ian Bremmer. Title -- "The Era of American Global Leadership Is Over. Here's What Comes Next." 00:23:54.83\00:24:03.57 Now, look, I realize we're a campus of almost a hundred 00:24:03.57\00:24:09.68 nations here. But this is about all of us, as you're about to hear. He opens up, a month ago, 00:24:09.68\00:24:17.65 predicting what happened yesterday. That would be the 00:24:17.65\00:24:21.52 inauguration. And so he writes it a month in advance. "As in the past, the day will be 00:24:21.52\00:24:25.66 cold." Well, he got that part right. January 20 is always 00:24:25.66\00:24:29.36 cold. "Melania will hold the Bible." She actually held two Bibles -- Abraham Lincoln's 00:24:29.36\00:24:34.84 Bible and a Bible given to Donald Trump by his mother when he was a child. "The kids will 00:24:34.84\00:24:39.74 stand by proudly." You saw them. "The new President will recite 00:24:39.74\00:24:42.58 his lines carefully, smile broadly, and change history." 00:24:42.58\00:24:48.45 Now, here we go. "And American international leadership, a constant since 1945, will end 00:24:48.45\00:24:55.99 with the presidential inauguration of Donald J. Trump on January 20, 2017." 00:24:55.99\00:25:01.33 Yesterday. "That's not because Trump is bound to fail where his 00:25:01.33\00:25:05.50 predecessors have succeeded." "Oh, no," the editorial goes on, three pages worth, observing 00:25:05.50\00:25:12.87 that there is a latent populism across the face of this Earth, and he checks off the major 00:25:12.87\00:25:18.88 nations one by one -- populism, meaning raw power going back to 00:25:18.88\00:25:25.35 the people. A new leadership vacuum -- he's making the case. In fact, he calls it "a world 00:25:25.35\00:25:30.93 without strong leadership, a new G-zero era." You've heard of the 00:25:30.93\00:25:35.50 G7 nations, the seven most powerful nations on Earth. Then they have the G8, and they 00:25:35.50\00:25:38.73 have the G20. He's calling this G-zero now. Now, this is his 00:25:38.73\00:25:41.97 line on the screen. 00:25:41.97\00:25:42.87 I want you to see it... 00:25:43.04\00:25:44.87 Now, look, I happen to believe that there is a rapidly emerging 00:25:55.08\00:25:59.19 power that will step into this vacuum on its own, but that is 00:25:59.19\00:26:04.83 neither the point of his editorial nor this sermon. 00:26:04.83\00:26:09.93 Ian Bremmer goes on to describe the world as we live in it right 00:26:09.93\00:26:12.53 now. Look at these words. 00:26:12.53\00:26:13.77 They'll be in your study guide. You'll be able to take them 00:26:13.77\00:26:16.17 home. On the screen -- "The 00:26:16.17\00:26:18.37 international order itself is unraveling." 00:26:18.37\00:26:21.98 Right now. "In the past eight years alone, 00:26:21.98\00:26:25.11 the world has seen the worst financial crisis in decades..." 00:26:25.11\00:26:28.12 Wow. Another writer, also an 00:27:01.72\00:27:05.45 American, made a most prescient prediction herself. 00:27:05.45\00:27:11.89 I'll put her words on the screen. 00:27:11.89\00:27:14.73 "The present..." [ Chuckles ] 00:27:14.73\00:27:17.50 Ominously, this sounds like today. 00:27:17.50\00:27:22.37 "The present..." 00:27:22.37\00:27:24.07 You and I could find a dozen talking heads who would bob their heads right now. 00:27:55.60\00:28:00.78 "On the verge of a stupendous crisis"? No kidding. 00:28:00.78\00:28:06.61 But of course. But there's more to this particular prediction. 00:28:06.61\00:28:10.89 Sentence back up on the screen -- "Angels are now 00:28:11.05\00:28:13.92 restraining the winds of strife, that they may not blow until the 00:28:13.92\00:28:18.23 world shall be warned of its coming doom; but a storm --" 00:28:18.23\00:28:21.76 There's that word again. But a storm. 00:28:21.76\00:28:24.27 "But a storm is gathering..." 00:28:24.27\00:28:26.43 Storm. "Finding Jesus in the Gathering 00:28:37.51\00:28:42.75 Dark" -- a new series for a new year in the Pioneer pulpit. 00:28:42.75\00:28:49.46 And that website, www.newperceptions.tv, that's 00:28:49.46\00:28:53.29 where you'll find the "Storm" every single week. 00:28:53.29\00:28:56.93 And the study guide in a moment. Because the only good storm -- 00:28:56.93\00:29:03.64 the only good storm is a storm you're ready for. 00:29:03.64\00:29:07.21 Question -- are you ready for the storm? 00:29:07.21\00:29:10.88 Jesus asks the question in peculiar words. Actually, He 00:29:11.05\00:29:15.08 raises the question. But I wonder, if He were here today, would He ask the same 00:29:15.08\00:29:19.12 question with these peculiar words? Open your Bible with me 00:29:19.12\00:29:22.99 to the Gospel of Luke, chapter 18, Luke chapter 18. What are 00:29:22.99\00:29:27.03 you talking about, Jesus? Luke chapter 18. I'm in the NIV. 00:29:27.03\00:29:30.93 You didn't bring a Bible, grab the pew Bible in front of you. It's page 706 in your pew 00:29:30.93\00:29:36.27 Bible -- Luke 18:8. Go to the very last line of verse eight, 00:29:36.27\00:29:41.01 the very last line of verse eight. Do you see it there? Bright red letters in mine -- 00:29:41.01\00:29:44.48 Jesus speaking... 00:29:44.48\00:29:45.88 Now grab your study guide because that's in your study 00:29:51.75\00:29:54.72 guide. It's the first blank to fill. Will He find faith on the Earth? Did you not get a study 00:29:54.72\00:29:58.63 guide? Hold your hand up. We got some friendly ushers here who will come your way. 00:29:58.63\00:30:01.23 If you didn't get a study guide, you'll want this particular 00:30:01.23\00:30:06.23 string of text. Hold your hand up, and we'll get that to you. 00:30:06.23\00:30:08.80 Jot it down. "When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the Earth?" You got to admit, 00:30:08.80\00:30:12.67 it's a rather probing question. "When I return," Jesus asks us -- "When I return, when I 00:30:12.67\00:30:16.71 return to the storm generation, the endgame generation, am I gonna find faith among you?" 00:30:16.71\00:30:22.75 Is it a rhetorical question? Does He mean the answer is, "But of course You will," or does He 00:30:22.75\00:30:26.96 mean the answer is, "No, of course I'm not going to"? What's 00:30:26.96\00:30:30.69 the answer? "When I come back, will I find faith on this Earth?" You say, "Dwight, what's 00:30:30.69\00:30:35.33 the big deal about this faith thing as far as an endgame storm?" You want to see what the 00:30:35.33\00:30:38.87 big deal about this is? Let me run them by you now, a whole 00:30:38.87\00:30:41.87 string of these. Keep your hand moving. We go. 1 John 5:4. Here's a text that you haven't 00:30:41.87\00:30:48.84 read in a long time. I've never preached from it. 1 John 5:4. 00:30:48.84\00:30:52.98 Take a look at this. Just before the Book of Revelation. 00:30:52.98\00:30:55.58 There they are -- 1, 2, 3 John and Jude. 00:30:55.58\00:30:58.15 1 John 5:4. "For everyone born of God 00:30:58.32\00:31:02.69 overcomes the world." Now, here comes the line. 00:31:02.69\00:31:05.66 "This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our 00:31:05.66\00:31:11.40 faith." Write that in. 00:31:11.40\00:31:12.73 "Even our faith." What's the big deal about faith? 00:31:12.73\00:31:15.24 What's the big deal about this endgame storm and faith? 00:31:15.24\00:31:19.54 Ah, faith is the determining -- it is the deciding, defining factor between victory and 00:31:19.71\00:31:25.28 defeat, between life and death. You remember the old gospel 00:31:25.28\00:31:29.85 hymn? ¤ Faith is the victory ¤ ¤ Faith is the victory ¤ ¤ Oh, glorious victory that 00:31:29.85\00:31:37.36 overcomes the world ¤ Old gospel hymn. It's the truth. 00:31:37.36\00:31:41.20 Faith -- we just read it. "Faith is the victory." When the storm 00:31:41.20\00:31:44.67 strikes, faith clearly is the demarcation between overcoming and being overcome. 00:31:44.67\00:31:48.74 [ Exhales sharply ] Right there. So, how do we get this faith? Next text. Look it up. 00:31:48.74\00:31:54.51 John 16:23. Thank you, Elizabeth, for reading that text 00:31:54.51\00:31:59.35 in your mother tongue -- powerfully done, I think. [ 00:31:59.35\00:32:03.99 Laughter ] Beautifully done. We can put it that way. It's 00:32:03.99\00:32:07.76 beautifully done. She just read John 16. These are the last words of Jesus before He prays 00:32:07.76\00:32:13.16 the great prayer of John 17 to His Father. The last words -- 00:32:13.16\00:32:17.40 here they are. This is John 16:33. Jesus -- red letters 00:32:17.57\00:32:20.67 again. "I have told you these things, so that in me you may 00:32:20.67\00:32:25.71 have peace. In this world, you will have 00:32:25.71\00:32:29.04 trouble. But take heart!" 00:32:29.04\00:32:31.48 I like it in the New King James -- "But cheer 00:32:31.48\00:32:35.22 up! Be of good cheer. 00:32:35.22\00:32:39.39 I have overcome the world." Hey, listen, guys. 00:32:39.39\00:32:43.86 Figure this out with me, will you? We're only three weeks into 00:32:44.03\00:32:47.13 this new year, and already some of us are going through big trouble. We're talking about 00:32:47.13\00:32:51.40 trouble with a capital T. So, I'm in chapel. I'm in chapel on 00:32:51.40\00:32:54.54 Thursday. And one of the co-eds comes up to me, and she says, 00:32:54.70\00:32:56.57 "Oh, Pastor, you're not gonna believe what a friend of mine is 00:32:56.57\00:32:58.61 going through." And she begins to list all that 00:32:58.61\00:33:00.11 has happened in this new year already. 00:33:00.11\00:33:02.84 Oh, my! 00:33:02.84\00:33:06.55 Jesus says, "Hey, you going through trouble right now? Be of good cheer. Take heart. 00:33:06.72\00:33:13.62 I have overcome the world. I have overcome the lord of 00:33:13.62\00:33:22.63 trouble. So, child, my friend," He whispers in your heart right 00:33:22.63\00:33:28.54 now. "Don't be afraid. I am with you. And I have won." 00:33:28.54\00:33:35.91 Oh, by the way, I would say rather radical, radical faith. This is the night before His 00:33:35.91\00:33:43.45 crucifixion, and He's already declaring He's won. "I have overcome this world." 00:33:43.45\00:33:48.86 Unshakeable faith. Where do we get this kind of faith from? 00:33:48.86\00:33:54.46 Obviously, it's from Jesus. Did Jesus live with this faith? Are 00:33:54.46\00:33:59.50 you kidding? I want you to go to a passage you never thought was Jesus talking, but this is 00:33:59.50\00:34:02.94 actually quoting Jesus when He was here, and you will not find these words in the Gospels. 00:34:02.94\00:34:06.11 Go to the Book of Hebrews, Book of Hebrews chapter two. This is 00:34:06.11\00:34:11.51 something else. We get an insight into the mind of the Word made flesh as in no other 00:34:11.51\00:34:16.58 place. Hebrews chapter two. Hebrews chapter two. Let's begin 00:34:16.58\00:34:24.89 in verse 10. Hebrews 2:10. "In bringing many sons and daughters 00:34:24.89\00:34:30.40 to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make 00:34:30.40\00:34:35.50 the pioneer of their salvation --" Ladies and gentlemen, who is the pioneer of our salvation? 00:34:35.50\00:34:39.54 Who's the pioneer? That's the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the 00:34:39.54\00:34:43.01 Pioneer Memorial Church. That's the Lord Jesus Christ. He would make -- how does it 00:34:43.01\00:34:48.18 read here? -- "the pioneer of our salvation perfect through 00:34:48.18\00:34:54.26 what He suffered." Now, those of you going through capital T Trouble right now -- three weeks 00:34:54.26\00:34:58.39 into the new year, and you're already in trouble -- I have good news for you. That's the 00:34:58.39\00:35:08.04 path of God. There is no way we will get out of this life without going through trouble. 00:35:08.04\00:35:12.47 It's just like it is in athletics. "No pain, no gain." 00:35:12.47\00:35:15.88 What do they say when you bulk up? "No pain, no gain." 00:35:15.88\00:35:20.78 Going through trouble right now -- "I have overcome the world." 00:35:20.78\00:35:26.89 Jesus says, "Listen, been there and done that when it comes to 00:35:26.89\00:35:30.26 trouble. I know all about it. Stay with me. Stay with me." All right. But I digress. 00:35:30.26\00:35:36.67 Verse 11. But, "Both the one who makes people holy --" that's the 00:35:36.67\00:35:40.50 Lord Jesus -- "and those who are made holy are of the same 00:35:40.50\00:35:44.07 family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them --" He's not ashamed to call us brothers and 00:35:44.07\00:35:48.34 sisters, He says. Now, here is quoting the mind of Christ. 00:35:48.34\00:35:51.85 He says, verse 12, "I will declare Your Name, oh, God, to my brothers and sisters in the 00:35:51.85\00:35:56.55 assembly. I will sing Your praises." And now here it comes 00:35:56.55\00:36:00.19 and, again, quoting His mind, "I will put my trust in Him. I will put my trust in Him." 00:36:00.19\00:36:06.26 Would you jot that down, please? "I will put my trust in Him." I will put my trust in God. 00:36:06.26\00:36:14.74 Those are the words of Christ. And that is precisely how the faith of Jesus manifested itself 00:36:14.74\00:36:20.74 when Jesus was here. I mean, lookit, Lucifer suddenly [Exhales sharply] materializes 00:36:20.74\00:36:25.21 in an explosion of light, purporting to be an angel of light -- emaciated Christ, 40 00:36:25.21\00:36:31.05 days of fasting, and he looks down at that emaciated specimen of humanity, and he says, "Yo. 00:36:31.05\00:36:39.83 You daddy's boy. You see these stones here? Turn 'em to bread." 00:36:39.83\00:36:46.60 Ladies and gentlemen, all three of that massive and aggressive onslaught of temptation -- all 00:36:46.60\00:36:52.24 three of the temptations, Jesus responds the same way. You know 00:36:52.24\00:36:55.88 how He responds? What you just read. "I will put my trust in Him. No, I'm not gonna do it." 00:36:55.88\00:36:58.98 "Aw, come on here. Throw yourself off the temple, and see 00:36:58.98\00:37:02.08 what God will do." "I will put my trust in Him. I will not do it." "Come on! Bow down to me! 00:37:02.08\00:37:05.49 I'll give you the whole planet and no Calvary." "I will put my 00:37:05.49\00:37:11.19 trust in Him." Three times. Mortal combat. And how does He respond? "I will put my trust in 00:37:11.19\00:37:23.37 Him." We're talking radical, unshakeable faith. And guess 00:37:23.37\00:37:30.31 what. Hold on to your pew now. Because this is precisely the kind of faith He gives to you -- 00:37:30.31\00:37:39.39 the same! You don't believe it? I'll show it to you. 00:37:39.39\00:37:42.36 Next text in this chain. Here we go. Revelation 14:12. 00:37:42.36\00:37:45.59 You may have read these words before. Revelation chapter 14. 00:37:45.59\00:37:49.26 Go back to the end of your Bible -- Revelation 14:12. Here's that 00:37:49.26\00:37:55.24 line. "Here --" speaking of this storm generation, the endgame 00:37:55.24\00:37:59.54 generation. "Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments 00:37:59.54\00:38:05.71 of God and --" the word "keep" is understood because it's continuing -- "those who keep 00:38:05.71\00:38:11.62 the commandments of God and keep the faith of Jesus." Would you 00:38:11.62\00:38:18.56 jot that down? "Here are they who keep the commandments of God and keep the faith of Jesus." 00:38:18.56\00:38:23.23 There will be a generation in Earth's last storm that will hold on -- keep the faith, 00:38:23.23\00:38:29.27 baby -- that will hold on to the faith of Jesus no matter what. Isn't that amazing? 00:38:29.27\00:38:36.91 I mean, think about this. Wow. And because they cling to that 00:38:36.91\00:38:45.69 faith, guess what. Because they cling to the faith of Jesus, guess what they get. They get 00:38:45.69\00:38:50.66 the victory of Jesus. Do you know that? Come on, I'm telling you the Gospel truth. 00:38:50.66\00:38:53.73 Next text. Look at it. 1 Corinthians chapter five -- 15, 00:38:53.73\00:38:56.83 rather. Boy, these are the words you read in a funeral homily or 00:38:56.83\00:39:01.70 at a graveside. This is such powerful stuff. Lookit. 1 Corinthians chapter 15. 00:39:01.70\00:39:06.78 Paul... This exclamation of his. This would be verse 30 -- verse 00:39:06.78\00:39:12.31 57, rather. 1 Corinthians 15:57. "But thanks --" Come on. 00:39:12.31\00:39:17.09 "Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through --" write 00:39:17.09\00:39:23.99 that word down -- "through our Lord Jesus Christ." Can you 00:39:23.99\00:39:29.53 believe that? Astounding. First, the Bible establishes that our faith must come from 00:39:29.53\00:39:34.34 Christ. It's His faith. And now the Bible declares that 00:39:34.34\00:39:37.94 our victory will come through Christ -- it's His victory -- showing once again that, when it 00:39:37.94\00:39:43.45 comes to salvation, from stem to stern, from A to Z, from alpha to omega -- "Because I am the 00:39:43.45\00:39:48.85 alpha and the omega and all the letters in between." It's the 00:39:48.85\00:39:53.19 Greek alphabet. It's all about Jesus. The faith of Jesus is what gives us the victory of 00:39:53.19\00:40:01.83 Jesus. Wow. No wonder the greatest Christian who ever 00:40:01.83\00:40:07.10 lived wrote this testimony down, and I hope you memorize it. You probably already have it 00:40:07.10\00:40:10.77 memorized -- Galatians 2:20. I like it in the King James, and so go to your study guide 00:40:10.77\00:40:15.28 because it's in the King James right there. Paul... 00:40:15.28\00:40:18.05 Where is Christ? Where is Christ for the disciple, the follower? 00:40:24.72\00:40:27.76 He's in me. He's in me. Christ lives in me. Now keep going. 00:40:27.76\00:40:31.96 "And the life which I now live in the flesh --" in my 00:40:32.13\00:40:35.03 humanity -- "I live by the faith --" write that down -- "I 00:40:35.03\00:40:39.37 live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and 00:40:39.37\00:40:42.54 gave Himself for me." You see, the faith of Jesus is 00:40:42.54\00:40:45.61 something you can have. 00:40:45.61\00:40:47.18 It's not something that you are. It's not your faith. It's not my 00:40:47.34\00:40:50.95 faith. "I live by the faith of Jesus, who loved me, and gave 00:40:50.95\00:40:55.82 Himself for me." It's His faith! It's His faith. Takes all the 00:40:55.82\00:41:02.22 worry out of wondering, "Will I be saved or not?" No, no, no, 00:41:02.22\00:41:05.06 no, no, no. It's not your faith that saves you. It's his faith. 00:41:05.06\00:41:07.96 "I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave 00:41:07.96\00:41:13.74 Himself for me." Wow. It is the faith of Jesus that makes all the difference in the 00:41:13.74\00:41:19.44 world -- not your faith, not my faith -- because the faith of Jesus brings the victory of 00:41:19.44\00:41:25.18 Jesus. Amen. 00:41:25.18\00:41:31.85 One more text. One more text in this string. 00:41:32.02\00:41:33.79 This is it. Revelation 3. You got to go back. 00:41:33.79\00:41:36.76 I want you to see this in your Bible. 00:41:36.76\00:41:38.33 Revelation 3. To an end-time generation -- 00:41:38.33\00:41:40.06 This would be the storm generation. 00:41:40.06\00:41:41.53 This is the endgame generation because this is Laodicea. 00:41:41.53\00:41:44.53 You may have heard that name before. 00:41:44.53\00:41:46.60 This is a promise to Laodicea, the endgame people, which you 00:41:46.60\00:41:51.41 and I, by the grace of God, long to be a part of, right? 00:41:51.41\00:41:55.38 Okay, so Revelation chapter three. Red letters again. 00:41:55.54\00:41:58.58 Boy, the red letters are not just in the Gospel. You got them 00:41:58.58\00:42:02.05 all over the opening to the Apocalypse because it's the revelation of Jesus, so He's 00:42:02.05\00:42:05.92 doing a lot of speaking, as He should. Drop down to verse 21. 00:42:05.92\00:42:09.12 Fill this in even as we read it. "To the one who overcomes, I 00:42:09.29\00:42:14.56 will give the right to sit with me on my throne --" now, key 00:42:14.56\00:42:19.87 words now -- "just as -- just as I overcame and sat down with my 00:42:19.87\00:42:27.98 Father on His throne." The Greek word for "overcome" 00:42:27.98\00:42:34.95 and "victory," it's all the same Greek word. 00:42:34.95\00:42:37.42 It's all the same. "Overcome," "victory," 00:42:37.42\00:42:39.72 "conquer," it's all the same. So that's why the NIV renders 00:42:39.72\00:42:42.66 this -- I'll put the NIV on the screen for you... 00:42:42.66\00:42:45.66 "Just as I was victorious, just as I overcame --" And how did 00:42:52.63\00:42:56.54 Jesus overcome? How did He overcome? 00:42:56.54\00:42:59.04 His faith. "I will put my trust in Him." Radical faith. 00:42:59.21\00:43:04.68 Unshakeable faith. And that's the faith he says, "I will it to 00:43:04.68\00:43:09.92 you." Because when you have the faith of Jesus, you have the 00:43:09.92\00:43:14.42 victory of Jesus. Put that on the screen for us. When you have the faith of Jesus, you have the 00:43:14.42\00:43:19.66 victory of Jesus. Faith is the victory. Isn't that the song? 00:43:19.66\00:43:22.96 "Faith is the victory." The victory is not me [Exhaling sharply] swashbuckling 00:43:22.96\00:43:27.84 my way through life. The victory is His faith. He won! 00:43:27.84\00:43:34.28 And I put my hands out, and I say, "Amen, Jesus. Give me that 00:43:34.28\00:43:37.31 faith." Boom! His victory becomes my victory. For an 00:43:37.31\00:43:43.89 end-time, storm generation, I make one more promise to her who overcomes, to him who overcomes 00:43:43.89\00:43:56.10 and has the faith of Jesus. "You will sit on the throne with me like I sit on the throne with 00:43:56.10\00:43:59.93 the Father." It doesn't get any better than that. 00:43:59.93\00:44:05.61 So, the question that begs to be asked right now is, "Yo, Dwight, hey, how do I have this? 00:44:05.61\00:44:11.35 How can I live the faith of Jesus?" You know, that's a very 00:44:11.35\00:44:16.99 critical question. I'm glad you asked it. Because, remember, we 00:44:16.99\00:44:19.85 opened up with Jesus' rather sobering announcement. "When the Son of Man comes, will 00:44:19.85\00:44:24.49 He find faith on the Earth?" There is a possibility, apparently, that vast swaths of 00:44:24.49\00:44:31.40 people will be faithless when He returns. I don't want to be in 00:44:31.40\00:44:36.91 that group. No. I'm gonna leave one line with 00:44:36.91\00:44:43.55 you from a classic on the parables of Jesus called "Christ's Object Lessons." 00:44:43.55\00:44:48.28 This line will tell you how you will get the faith of Jesus and you will have it for the rest of 00:44:48.28\00:44:53.99 your life. One line. Page 149. I'll even give you the page 00:44:53.99\00:44:58.63 number. "Christ's Object Lessons," page 149. 00:44:58.63\00:45:01.50 Fill it in, please. "All that Christ received from 00:45:01.66\00:45:05.47 God we, too, may have." Did you catch that? 00:45:05.47\00:45:08.77 "All that He received from God we, too, may have. 00:45:08.77\00:45:12.41 Then ask and receive. With the persevering faith of 00:45:12.41\00:45:16.91 Jacob --" midnight assailant, sweaty torso. 00:45:16.91\00:45:19.55 He's hanging on. He now knows he has God in his 00:45:19.55\00:45:22.38 arms, and he cries out, "I will not let You go unless You bless 00:45:22.38\00:45:25.99 me." "With the persevering faith of 00:45:25.99\00:45:28.59 Jacob, with the unyielding persistence of Elijah --" who 00:45:28.59\00:45:32.53 prayed not once -- after Mount Carmel -- God has nuked 00:45:32.53\00:45:36.33 the summit of Mount Carmel. But Elijah said, "I got to have 00:45:36.33\00:45:39.67 more. I got to have rain. 00:45:39.67\00:45:40.97 We have to have rain." He prays not once, he prays not 00:45:40.97\00:45:43.54 twice, he prays not three times, he prays not four times, he 00:45:43.54\00:45:46.44 prays not five times, he prays not six times -- seven times, he 00:45:46.44\00:45:49.51 says, "God, have mercy on me. Make me an unobstructed channel 00:45:49.51\00:45:55.52 for You to be released to give us rain." 00:45:55.52\00:45:58.92 "With the un..." How does it go here? 00:45:58.92\00:46:02.26 "With the unyielding persistence of Elijah --" oh, I love this -- 00:46:02.26\00:46:06.49 "claim for yourself all that God has promised." 00:46:06.49\00:46:10.00 Now, I've had an extra 48 hours to brood over this quotation. 00:46:10.00\00:46:14.04 You haven't, so I'm gonna help you out. 00:46:14.04\00:46:16.07 I'm gonna speed up your brooding right now. 00:46:16.07\00:46:18.31 I want you to circle some words. Circle the words that I draw to 00:46:18.31\00:46:21.41 your attention. Circle the first "all," will 00:46:21.41\00:46:24.11 you, please? "All." 00:46:24.11\00:46:25.65 "All that Christ received from God --" Hey, what did Jesus 00:46:25.65\00:46:28.95 receive from God? 00:46:28.95\00:46:30.72 All. I mean, give me some "alls." What are some "alls"? 00:46:33.19\00:46:37.29 The spirit of joy? Didn't He receive that from God, the 00:46:37.29\00:46:40.33 spirit of joy? How about the spirit of obedience? Did He receive from God the 00:46:40.33\00:46:43.03 spirit of obedience? How about the spirit of holiness? 00:46:43.03\00:46:45.47 Was He holy, devoted to God? But of course. How about faith? 00:46:45.47\00:46:48.10 Did Jesus receive faith from God? Of course He did. 00:46:48.10\00:46:50.37 All that Christ received you and I can have. The faith of Jesus? 00:46:50.37\00:46:59.25 Yep. So circle the "all," and then would you circle the word 00:46:59.41\00:47:02.28 "ask"? "Then ask." James chapter four says, "You 00:47:02.28\00:47:05.69 don't have, because you don't ask." 00:47:05.69\00:47:07.49 That's half our problem. We got it convinced up here -- 00:47:07.49\00:47:10.36 we just don't ask. We think God's gonna just bring 00:47:10.36\00:47:13.03 it on a silver platter. "No, I'm not gonna force you. 00:47:13.03\00:47:15.76 You have free choice. Ask me, and I'll give it to you. 00:47:15.76\00:47:18.53 Then ask." Circle another word. 00:47:18.53\00:47:20.30 Circle the word "claim." Oh, I like that one. 00:47:20.30\00:47:23.10 "Claim for yourself all --" circle the last "all --" "all 00:47:23.10\00:47:27.18 that God has promised." Oh, wow. 00:47:27.18\00:47:34.35 Do you remember this great law of the universe we've been learning over the last few 00:47:40.96\00:47:44.66 months together? Goes like this. See if it gets completed in your 00:47:44.66\00:47:48.66 mind. When the Omnipotent God speaks a word, the moment He 00:47:48.66\00:47:55.50 speaks the word, the word does what? It creates the reality it describes, so that when God 00:47:55.50\00:48:04.48 says, "Let there be light," in less than half a nanosecond, 00:48:04.48\00:48:12.22 there was...light. And wouldn't you know it? I had a mathematician in first service 00:48:12.22\00:48:15.59 sitting there, listening. And you know what he did? He gave me 00:48:15.59\00:48:19.09 this card, and he said, "Listen, Dwight, I've calculated just how long a half a nanosecond is." 00:48:19.09\00:48:24.10 With all the formula on it. It's very intimidating to preach in 00:48:24.10\00:48:29.70 this congregation. I'm just telling you. [ Laughter ] You can't say nothing about 00:48:29.70\00:48:32.87 nothing, and somebody's got a PhD in it. Or they're doing an 00:48:32.87\00:48:38.95 honors project on it, and they know more than the professors. They do in those cases. 00:48:38.95\00:48:44.05 Half a nanosecond. In half a nanosecond... light. 00:48:44.05\00:48:54.10 So, what if God did this? You say, "Dwight, I love that, I 00:48:54.10\00:48:57.80 love that. 'Let there be light.' There's light." What if God 00:48:57.80\00:49:01.47 said, "Do you let there be faith in your life"? Would you say amen to that if He said it to 00:49:01.47\00:49:05.61 you? Of course I would. If You say -- God, if You say to me, "Let there be faith," I 00:49:05.61\00:49:09.78 will say amen, and I'll take it right now in half a nanosecond. 00:49:09.78\00:49:13.88 Guess what. God says it for you. I'll put it on the screen. Don't you lose that study guide. 00:49:13.88\00:49:17.02 Romans 12:3... 00:49:17.02\00:49:18.52 The most pagan of pagans on the planet today -- Of those 7 billion, the most pagan of 00:49:21.42\00:49:25.83 pagans has a seed of faith already in her, already in him. Everybody's been granted a 00:49:25.83\00:49:33.37 measure of faith. Now, it's true, guys -- you don't get 00:49:33.37\00:49:37.54 faith fully grown. Nope. "No pain, no gain." Come on. You 00:49:37.54\00:49:43.65 ever work out? Most of you have not worked out. I can just see that by looking at you. 00:49:43.65\00:49:46.75 [ Laughter ] It's okay. I haven't either. [ Laughs ] 00:49:46.75\00:49:50.62 But the deal is faith can come. You get this little mustard seed of faith, but if -- just like a 00:49:50.62\00:49:57.26 muscle, if you begin to exercise that faith, the muscle that exercises the faith, the faith 00:49:57.26\00:50:04.13 in the faith of Jesus -- you exercise that muscle, that muscle begins to grow. 00:50:04.13\00:50:11.01 Your faith begins to grow. "I've given to everybody on this planet," God says, "a measure of 00:50:11.01\00:50:15.41 faith." And now one more. You want Jesus to tell it to you 00:50:15.41\00:50:17.61 plain? Come on, Jesus. Say, "Let there be faith in me," 00:50:17.61\00:50:19.61 and I will say amen to it, and I'll receive it. 00:50:19.61\00:50:22.02 Here it goes. Mark 11:22. Come on. 00:50:22.18\00:50:24.99 Jesus says -- red letters -- "Have faith in God." 00:50:24.99\00:50:28.26 You want faith? Jesus says to you, "Have faith." 00:50:28.26\00:50:32.33 You may have it. "Let there be faith." 00:50:32.33\00:50:34.76 And in half a nanosecond, however you calculate that, you 00:50:34.93\00:50:41.90 got it. You see what's going on here? 00:50:41.90\00:50:43.97 God has made everything available to you in the 00:50:44.14\00:50:48.71 universe. "All that Christ received from 00:50:48.71\00:50:53.05 God we may also have." You say, "Dwight, I want 00:50:53.05\00:51:01.59 miracle-working power." "Don't be playing games with me, 00:51:01.59\00:51:04.63 boy. Are you serious about that?" 00:51:04.63\00:51:06.80 "Yeah, I want miracle-working power." I want to tell you 00:51:06.96\00:51:10.83 something. Listen carefully. If you sincere about miracle-working power and you 00:51:10.83\00:51:19.07 are living as Jesus lives -- "I place my trust in Him --" then you will receive miracle-working 00:51:19.07\00:51:29.42 power at the moment you need that miracle -- not a second before and not a second later. 00:51:29.42\00:51:37.59 Because if it's for, "Yo, guys, watch me do this!" that's exactly what Lucifer was up to 00:51:37.59\00:51:42.66 in the wilderness. "Let's watch it, daddy's boy. Let's see you 00:51:42.66\00:51:46.10 do it." No. If you're living -- "I put my trust in Him --" when 00:51:46.10\00:51:53.64 you need a miracle, you will get a miracle. Don't you tell God when to jump to and when not to. 00:51:53.64\00:52:02.72 You just trust Him. "I place my trust in Him." "Desire of Ages," 00:52:02.72\00:52:12.43 page 143. Every miracle Christ performed was by the power of God through the angels. 00:52:12.43\00:52:17.03 He didn't do it one -- It was not in Him. He didn't have hot 00:52:17.03\00:52:21.70 fingers that suddenly -- [ Exhales sharply ] "Whoo! What 00:52:21.70\00:52:25.11 was that?" It was not in Him. He came to live exactly as you and 00:52:25.11\00:52:30.41 I live. There's nothing in me either. "I will put my trust in Him." That's how the power came. 00:52:30.41\00:52:36.62 You say, "Dwight, I'd like to have the power of discerning what a man is thinking right 00:52:36.62\00:52:40.99 now. I want to know what that woman is thinking right now. 00:52:40.99\00:52:44.09 Looking in her eyes, I need to know." If you're serious about 00:52:44.09\00:52:47.66 that -- No, seriously. If you're serious, because it will glorify 00:52:47.66\00:52:53.07 God for you to know, then just like Peter -- When Ananias and Sapphira stand in front of him, 00:52:53.07\00:52:59.87 he reads their minds. And he says, "You're lying." Who told 00:52:59.87\00:53:07.35 him that? The third Person of the Godhead. [ Exhales sharply ] "All that Christ receives from 00:53:07.35\00:53:16.36 God, we, too, may have." How about self-control and purity? 00:53:16.36\00:53:22.46 Would you like self-control and purity? Please. 00:53:22.46\00:53:27.10 The faith of Jesus -- When you get the faith of Jesus, you get 00:53:27.10\00:53:30.57 all these gifts. What the faith of Jesus looks -- Here's how it operates. Jesus has a beautiful 00:53:30.57\00:53:35.98 woman. She's beautiful. She's pouring perfume all over His 00:53:35.98\00:53:40.58 feet. She's kissing His feet. She's weeping over His feet. There is no arousal taking place 00:53:40.58\00:53:48.99 sexually. "I put my trust in Him." Instead, He sees a sinner 00:53:48.99\00:53:56.46 hungry for God, and He responds just like that. You don't have 00:53:56.46\00:54:03.84 to worry. Whatever you need, the faith of Jesus is yours. And when you need it... 00:54:03.84\00:54:14.22 you will have it. Ah. Wow. Wow. What's the big deal? 00:54:14.22\00:54:23.93 Here's the big deal. "We are on the verge of a stupendous 00:54:23.93\00:54:31.60 crisis." You don't have to believe me. You don't have to 00:54:31.60\00:54:35.24 believe me at all. You got a bright mind. Figure it out. "We are on the verge of a 00:54:35.24\00:54:41.14 stupendous crisis." And in all candor, you can believe me here 00:54:41.14\00:54:49.02 -- I worry for God's people. I'm worried that somehow we'll just 00:54:49.02\00:54:57.73 blow this off. "It's not a big deal. We'll get over it." 00:54:57.73\00:55:00.40 We're not gonna get over this one. 00:55:02.56\00:55:04.83 A storm is coming the likes of which the Earth has never seen. Question -- are you ready for 00:55:08.94\00:55:15.68 that storm? No, seriously. Are you ready for that storm? 00:55:15.68\00:55:19.75 Are we here on this campus, are we ready for that storm? [ 00:55:19.75\00:55:27.89 Inhales sharply ] The only way you and I will be ready, I repeat, is if we have the faith 00:55:27.89\00:55:35.66 of Jesus. It's a gift. It is a gift of Jesus to us. And so this 00:55:35.66\00:55:43.84 sermon ends with a plea. It ends... with a heartfelt 00:55:43.84\00:55:52.61 invitation. Won't you please begin asking for the faith of Jesus? You have enough Bible 00:55:52.61\00:56:02.62 texts to which you can say, "Amen, let it be so." And I believe -- And I stand 00:56:02.62\00:56:08.00 before you to declare I believe that, when you ask, this gift 00:56:08.00\00:56:14.57 you will receive. "All that Christ received from God we may have." I want to pray. Oh, God. 00:56:19.21\00:56:28.75 That's it, the faith of Jesus. An endgame generation, the storm generation will keep the faith 00:56:28.75\00:56:37.86 of Jesus. Grant that everyone watching on live streaming, 00:56:37.86\00:56:43.26 everyone here, that all of us -- that in this New Year moment, we'll send the prayer to heaven 00:56:43.26\00:56:51.11 today and today and today until Jesus comes. "I will put my trust in You." Grant us His 00:56:51.11\00:56:59.28 faith. The battle on multiple fronts in our hearts, but the faith of Jesus is the one gift 00:56:59.28\00:57:08.86 that brings the victory of Jesus. So grant us His faith. We pray in His name. Amen. 00:57:08.86\00:57:17.77 Amen. 00:57:17.77\00:57:18.73 >> I wanted to take an extra moment to let you know how grateful I am you joined us 00:57:20.67\00:57:23.97 today.
