No. 00:03:53.52\00:03:56.40 Don't whack your brain, it's not worth it. 00:03:56.43\00:04:01.11 So you've grown up in this community, 00:04:01.14\00:04:03.23 you have seen the changes, the Berrien Springs 00:04:03.26\00:04:05.70 the little village of Berrien Springs has gone through. 00:04:05.73\00:04:08.87 But I want to shift gears now and talk 00:04:08.90\00:04:10.75 to these two dear people who are standing beside you. 00:04:10.78\00:04:13.05 I'm gonna come over to Sylvia's side. 00:04:13.08\00:04:14.68 And Sylvia, so you and John are-- 00:04:14.71\00:04:17.47 you were with your friends, the Webbers. 00:04:17.50\00:04:19.04 Do I have it right? 00:04:19.07\00:04:20.10 Freddy and Joyce. Freddy and Joyce. 00:04:20.13\00:04:21.80 And you're at Rio, you're having just a good Mexican lunch. 00:04:21.83\00:04:26.95 So Sylvia, what-- tell us the real story. 00:04:26.98\00:04:31.39 Well, I noticed this elderly lady by herself 00:04:31.42\00:04:35.24 which is kind of an usual in the Mexican restaurant. 00:04:35.27\00:04:38.20 And I thought to myself, 00:04:38.23\00:04:39.94 I wondered why she is here by herself. 00:04:39.97\00:04:42.67 And about that time we were finishing 00:04:42.70\00:04:45.17 and so I walked over to her and I said, 00:04:45.20\00:04:47.69 "I heard about what happened to you today." 00:04:47.72\00:04:49.69 Because baker to his concern, the owner had walked by and said 00:04:49.72\00:04:53.56 "See that lady, her house burned down today." 00:04:53.59\00:04:55.73 Her house had burned down that very day. 00:04:55.76\00:04:58.10 And she-- lot of what she owned 00:04:58.13\00:05:00.68 was burned up with that including her pet cat. 00:05:00.71\00:05:04.52 So she was very down I'm sure. 00:05:04.55\00:05:07.53 So when I went over to her, I said, 00:05:07.56\00:05:08.95 "I'm so sorry about what happened to you today. 00:05:08.98\00:05:11.75 And is there anything we can do?" 00:05:11.78\00:05:14.34 And she said, "Oh, I'm staying over here in this motel." 00:05:14.37\00:05:17.03 And she said, "The insurance company 00:05:17.06\00:05:18.62 is trying to sort it out." 00:05:18.65\00:05:20.15 So we by this time all of us were walking out 00:05:20.18\00:05:22.49 and we walked toward her van. 00:05:22.52\00:05:24.24 And she was driving, you asked me yesterday, 00:05:24.27\00:05:26.12 how longer that was and I figured it out 00:05:26.15\00:05:27.88 it was--she was 92 and she was driving a van. 00:05:27.91\00:05:31.79 You were driving a van, Donna, bless her. 00:05:31.82\00:05:34.07 I think, Dwight. What? 00:05:34.10\00:05:36.09 Nothing, Dwight. All right, okay. 00:05:36.12\00:05:39.11 And so we stood by the van and talked to her a little bit. 00:05:39.14\00:05:42.11 And John said, "Would you mind if we had a word of prayer?" 00:05:42.14\00:05:43.84 She said, "Oh, I'd love that." So John prayed. 00:05:43.87\00:05:46.25 She got in her van and went across the street to her motel 00:05:46.28\00:05:49.17 and I went home, we went home. 00:05:49.20\00:05:51.26 The next day I decided that I would give her a call 00:05:51.29\00:05:54.63 and see if there's anything that she thought of 00:05:54.66\00:05:57.18 in the meantime that we could do. 00:05:57.21\00:05:58.39 I said, "I'm going into Saint Joe, 00:05:58.42\00:05:59.65 would you like to go with me?" 00:05:59.68\00:06:00.79 Is there anything you need we'd like to do? 00:06:00.82\00:06:02.88 She said "Yes, I have some lamps that need to be rewired 00:06:02.91\00:06:05.27 because they got burned up." 00:06:05.30\00:06:06.70 I said, "Okay, come with me." 00:06:06.73\00:06:08.04 So we went to town and came back. 00:06:08.07\00:06:09.29 By that time it was Friday. 00:06:09.32\00:06:11.05 And so I said, "I go to church tomorrow, 00:06:11.08\00:06:14.52 would you like to go with me?" 00:06:14.55\00:06:15.60 I said, "After church be in my house, we'll have lunch." 00:06:15.63\00:06:18.65 She said, "Oh, that would be lovely." 00:06:18.68\00:06:20.41 And guess what? 00:06:20.44\00:06:21.47 When we got to church, guess what was happening? 00:06:21.50\00:06:24.34 Communion and I thought, how am I going to explain 00:06:24.37\00:06:27.39 the foot washing part of this to Donna? 00:06:27.42\00:06:29.90 Well, that turned out that I didn't need to explain a thing 00:06:29.93\00:06:32.17 she thought it was the most wonderful thing 00:06:32.20\00:06:33.82 she had ever experienced. 00:06:33.85\00:06:35.30 She said, "This is lovely. 00:06:35.33\00:06:36.70 I think every church should do this." Wow. 00:06:36.73\00:06:40.10 So let me get this straight, John and Sylvia. 00:06:40.13\00:06:42.88 You're professor here at theological seminary. 00:06:42.91\00:06:45.61 And Sylvia, you've been a nurse in a community. 00:06:45.64\00:06:47.60 So you're having, you're just having supper, 00:06:47.63\00:06:50.43 enjoying a great meal, and it all begins 00:06:50.46\00:06:53.82 by seeing another patron at the same restaurant. 00:06:53.85\00:06:58.00 You step out of your comfort zone, 00:06:58.03\00:07:00.36 you walk across the room, you initiate the contact 00:07:00.39\00:07:04.05 and these years later here we are. 00:07:04.08\00:07:08.65 Now Donna, you have been, 00:07:08.68\00:07:10.67 I think that Sabbath mark the beginning 00:07:10.70\00:07:12.40 of Sabbath after Sabbath 00:07:12.43\00:07:15.49 that you have worshiped here at pioneer. Oh, yes. 00:07:15.52\00:07:18.07 Then there came "I Perceive". 00:07:18.10\00:07:20.99 That was that little series of nine nights in Saint Joseph. 00:07:21.02\00:07:24.19 And I tell you what, no matter the weather, 00:07:24.22\00:07:26.57 there is no weather that intimidates you. 00:07:26.60\00:07:28.28 You were there every single night. 00:07:28.31\00:07:30.61 Well, thank John and Sylvia for that too. 00:07:30.64\00:07:34.07 They were faith for you. 00:07:34.10\00:07:35.16 I don't drive that van anymore. 00:07:35.19\00:07:37.02 You don't? Well, I'm glad to learn that. 00:07:37.05\00:07:38.69 I'm actually very glad to hear that. 00:07:38.72\00:07:43.06 But you were there night after night after night 00:07:43.09\00:07:45.09 as we went deeper and deeper into scripture. 00:07:45.12\00:07:47.34 And so Donna, there you were 00:07:47.37\00:07:49.00 and every night we were handing out 00:07:49.03\00:07:50.22 little decision cards, you were responding. 00:07:50.25\00:07:53.37 And you made a decision 00:07:53.40\00:07:56.41 at the end of that I Perceive series. 00:07:56.44\00:08:00.08 Yes. And what was that decision? 00:08:00.11\00:08:02.44 Well, I happen to baptized once 00:08:02.47\00:08:05.12 but I decided I'd be baptized again and join this church. 00:08:05.15\00:08:09.78 Now Donna, how old does a person have to be 00:08:09.81\00:08:12.63 to really give her heart completely to Jesus? 00:08:12.66\00:08:16.44 Well, I would say about 2. And how old are you? 00:08:16.47\00:08:22.71 Ninety eight. Are you? 00:08:22.74\00:08:24.37 Going on a 100. I tell you what? 00:22:46.37\00:22:48.42 I'll scribbled something so eligible, 00:22:48.45\00:22:50.47 he will never be able to read it. 00:22:50.50\00:22:52.01 This of course what happens 00:22:52.04\00:22:53.39 every time I write one of these letters. 00:22:53.42\00:22:56.47 I say, no, no, no, what I'll do, 00:22:56.50\00:22:57.85 I'll deep six, I'll drop in file 13, 00:22:57.88\00:23:00.37 he won't even know that the letter got thrown out. 00:23:00.40\00:23:02.54 He will think look at that, I guess I'm off their list. 00:23:02.57\00:23:06.11 Requiem for a loser. 00:23:06.14\00:23:09.14 Requiem is Latin and it means rest, 00:23:09.17\00:23:10.85 but here's the question, is there ever any rest 00:23:10.88\00:23:12.97 for a brother or a sister who has fallen on this campus? 00:23:13.00\00:23:17.85 Who has fallen in this community? 00:23:17.88\00:23:22.23 What did Peter say here? 00:23:22.26\00:23:24.28 "I am going fishing." I love that. 00:23:24.31\00:23:28.81 Because what happens next 00:23:28.84\00:23:29.90 is a shining testimony to Peter's bros. 00:23:29.93\00:23:34.28 They instantly step out, yo, you're not going alone, 00:23:34.31\00:23:36.76 we're going with you. 00:23:36.79\00:23:38.13 I love that about them. 00:23:38.16\00:23:39.53 Because let's face it, Peter has publicly, 00:23:39.56\00:23:41.90 Peter has publicly shamed the name of Jesus Christ 00:23:41.93\00:23:46.18 in the most humiliating way possible. 00:23:46.21\00:23:49.17 When all the attention around that campfire 00:23:49.20\00:23:51.22 remember, when all the attention 00:23:51.25\00:23:52.94 around that campfire was pinned on him. 00:23:52.97\00:23:55.37 He cried out, "Read my lips." 00:23:55.40\00:23:57.90 And somebody on the balcony was hearing it all. 00:23:57.93\00:24:00.95 Read my lips, I have never known 00:24:00.98\00:24:03.77 that blankety, blank, blank man in my life. 00:24:03.80\00:24:07.12 You can't fall more dramatically 00:24:11.15\00:24:17.05 and publicly in a way Peter has just done. 00:24:17.08\00:24:21.42 I say, I think it is a testimony to his circle 00:24:21.45\00:24:26.57 when he says, I am going fishing. 00:24:26.60\00:24:29.36 We're going with you, you're not gonna be alone. 00:24:29.39\00:24:34.54 Verse 3, "So Simon Peter said to them, 'I am going fishing.' 00:24:34.57\00:24:36.82 And they said to him, 'We are going with you also.' 00:24:36.85\00:24:38.55 And they went out and immediately got into the boat, 00:24:38.58\00:24:40.52 and that night they caught nothing." 00:24:40.55\00:24:43.13 But once full Passover 00:24:43.16\00:24:45.32 or but it's now and its waning sliver. 00:24:45.35\00:24:49.09 But it's still, it is still picture perfect tonight. 00:24:49.12\00:24:53.56 The lake calm, the silver left of the moon 00:24:53.59\00:24:57.37 reflected on those waters. 00:24:57.40\00:24:59.11 It's beautiful but it's depressing. 00:24:59.14\00:25:01.27 Because guess what? 00:25:01.30\00:25:03.36 Peter's not only morally fallen, 00:25:03.39\00:25:05.59 he is now professionally failing. 00:25:05.62\00:25:08.96 And I have seen it time and time again 00:25:08.99\00:25:12.20 when a man goes through moral meltdown 00:25:12.23\00:25:15.79 and he falls beyond his control there is a professional failing 00:25:15.82\00:25:21.81 that accompanies the moral falling. 00:25:21.84\00:25:25.81 Sad. No fish all night. 00:25:25.84\00:25:32.61 That's a record read, "And they caught nothing," 00:25:32.64\00:25:36.58 zero, not a nothing. 00:25:36.61\00:25:38.72 I tell you what, there's nothing worse than nothing, is there? 00:25:38.75\00:25:42.36 Nothing to show for the class. 00:25:42.39\00:25:44.55 A whole semester and I failed it. 00:25:44.58\00:25:48.02 Nothing to show for sales, the entire month nothing. 00:25:48.05\00:25:53.55 No fears, no sparkle left in your marriage, nothing. 00:25:53.58\00:25:58.03 No advancement, no promotion, nothing. 00:25:58.06\00:26:00.73 No success with your social fishing on campus, nothing. 00:26:00.76\00:26:05.29 No resources, no money, no nothing. 00:26:05.32\00:26:10.35 There's nothing like nothing to make you feel a failure faster. 00:26:10.38\00:26:17.18 And they caught and he caught nothing. 00:26:17.21\00:26:21.26 Very interesting. 00:26:21.29\00:26:22.85 The same Greek word Jesus uses in the upper room 00:26:22.88\00:26:25.84 when He declares to the disciples, 00:26:25.87\00:26:28.26 without me you can do nothing. 00:26:28.29\00:26:32.21 Maybe that's the point. 00:26:32.24\00:26:37.19 Verse 4, "But when the morning had now come." 00:26:37.22\00:26:42.65 Oh, hit the pause button right there. 00:26:42.68\00:26:44.70 "When the morning had now come," I love that. 00:26:44.73\00:26:48.45 Beyond every midnight of nothing 00:26:48.48\00:26:50.13 there is still comes the morning of promise. 00:26:50.16\00:26:53.19 Midnight is not the last word. 00:26:53.22\00:26:56.38 I'm thinking of that gospel song 00:26:56.41\00:26:57.82 that Gloria Bill Gaither wrote and sang. 00:26:57.85\00:27:01.10 You remember this one? 00:27:01.13\00:27:02.16 Then came the morning 00:27:02.19\00:27:06.50 Oh, night turned into day 00:27:06.53\00:27:09.69 The stone was rolled away 00:27:09.72\00:27:11.40 Hope rose with the dawn 00:27:11.43\00:27:12.85 Then came the morning 00:27:12.88\00:27:15.05 Shadows vanished before the sun 00:27:15.08\00:27:17.71 Death had lost and life had won 00:27:17.74\00:27:20.89 For morning had come Hallelujah 00:27:20.92\00:27:25.65 After your midnight there will always come a morning, 00:27:25.68\00:27:28.36 don't give up. 00:27:28.39\00:27:30.32 Look at how this year is ending on your analysis 00:27:30.35\00:27:33.32 and on your spreadsheet of evaluation, 00:27:33.35\00:27:35.59 but don't give up. 00:27:35.62\00:27:37.36 There's a morning always that follows a midnight. 00:27:37.39\00:27:42.22 All right, Verse 4 again, 00:27:42.25\00:27:44.02 "But when the morning had come, Jesus stood on the shore, 00:27:44.05\00:27:50.25 yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus." 00:27:50.28\00:27:52.40 Then verse 5, "Jesus said to them, 00:27:52.43\00:27:54.31 'Children, have you any food?'" 00:27:54.34\00:27:56.93 one translator says it ought to be lambs 00:27:56.96\00:27:59.18 and another says it ought to be 00:27:59.21\00:28:00.24 yo, friends, caught anything yet? 00:28:00.27\00:28:03.97 "And they answered him. "Fail of success." 00:29:15.85\00:29:19.22 You will not fail 00:29:19.25\00:29:21.37 if you cast your net on the side Jesus is on. 00:29:21.40\00:29:24.23 Look, I know all your friends are over here, they say, 00:29:24.26\00:29:26.86 "Yo, come on over here." 00:29:26.89\00:29:28.40 Jesus says, "No, no, no, cast your net this direction." 00:29:28.43\00:29:32.26 For where I am it is always the right side." 00:29:32.29\00:29:35.54 All your family is over here and say, 00:29:35.57\00:29:36.87 what got in you that university, you're getting fanatical on us? 00:29:36.90\00:29:40.11 Who cares, Jesus said, "I'm over here, 00:29:40.14\00:29:42.14 I'm on the right side, cast your net this way." 00:29:42.17\00:29:45.95 Because when you cast your net on the right side 00:29:45.98\00:29:48.32 you were always casting to Christ Himself. 00:29:48.35\00:29:53.73 How did that line go? Amen, amen. 00:35:20.33\00:35:22.97 When you see two amens right side by side, 00:35:23.00\00:35:25.69 you know that something huge is about to be spoken. 00:35:25.72\00:35:28.81 The last number 25, you just read it, 00:35:28.84\00:35:30.97 "Amen, amen, I say to you, Peter, 00:35:31.00\00:35:33.43 when you were younger, you girded yourself 00:35:33.46\00:35:35.84 and walked where you wished 00:35:35.87\00:35:37.13 but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, 00:35:37.16\00:35:39.71 and another will gird you 00:35:39.74\00:35:41.14 and carry you where you do not wish. 00:35:41.17\00:35:43.46 This Jesus spoke, signifying 00:35:43.49\00:35:45.00 by what death Peter would glorify God. 00:35:45.03\00:35:47.25 And when Jesus had spoken this, 00:35:47.28\00:35:49.02 He said to Peter, 'Follow Me. Follow Me.'" 00:35:49.05\00:35:54.76 I know we all have to admit, we must admit. 00:35:58.61\00:36:01.73 that the story of Jesus forgiving and restoring Peter 00:36:01.76\00:36:04.85 into His inner circle of disciples 00:36:04.88\00:36:08.51 is truly one of the great finales of all sacred history. 00:36:08.54\00:36:11.52 How can you think about, 00:36:11.55\00:36:12.61 John opens his gospel with a call of Peter. 00:36:12.64\00:36:15.76 John dutifully records the fall of Peter and now hallelujah, 00:36:15.79\00:36:19.62 John ends his gospel with a forgiving of Peter. 00:36:19.65\00:36:23.36 I tell you what ladies and gentlemen, 00:36:23.39\00:36:24.77 all over it are the fingerprints 00:36:24.80\00:36:27.92 of the profound lover of Calvary the Savior of the world, 00:36:27.95\00:36:32.54 His fingerprints all over this ending. 00:36:32.57\00:36:37.32 No matter how awful your sin, 00:36:37.35\00:36:41.18 no matter how far you will fall. 00:36:41.21\00:36:46.81 My grace is sufficient for you for we're sin abounds. 00:36:46.84\00:36:53.87 Grace does much more abound. 00:36:53.90\00:36:59.23 Forgive you. Obeying. 00:39:41.07\00:39:44.63 John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments, obey." 00:39:44.66\00:39:49.06 That's how love to Jesus is expressed, you obey Him. 00:39:49.09\00:39:52.07 Keep reading which implies by the way you see this line, 00:39:52.10\00:39:56.99 "Which implies utter self-sacrifice 00:39:57.02\00:39:59.77 and potentially death." 00:39:59.80\00:40:03.72 You see, "Do you love Me?" 00:40:03.75\00:40:05.87 really means, "Will you follow Me even to death." 00:40:05.90\00:40:13.86 But by the way not only follow Him 00:40:13.89\00:40:16.46 to the death of martyrdom that Peter is going to die. 00:40:16.49\00:40:20.71 Most of us here, no doubt will not die the death of a martyr 00:40:20.74\00:40:25.16 which means for us, okay, for most of us here. 00:40:25.19\00:40:28.09 "Will you follow Me to death means the death of old age. 00:40:28.12\00:40:35.74 If times you last and Jesus doesn't come soon. 00:40:35.77\00:40:38.41 Old age, I want you to change your glasses. 00:40:38.44\00:40:42.00 Excuse me. 00:40:42.03\00:40:43.06 I want you to change your glasses and re-read verse 18 00:40:43.09\00:40:47.27 because with new glasses on, you're gonna see 00:40:47.30\00:40:48.82 a classic description of old age, watch this. 00:40:48.85\00:40:53.02 Verse 18, again Jesus speaking, most assuredly, 00:40:53.05\00:40:55.24 "I say to you Peter, 'when you were younger 00:40:55.27\00:40:58.05 you dressed yourself and walked where you wished.'" 00:40:58.08\00:41:01.27 Boy, is that true on this campus. 00:41:01.30\00:41:02.75 When you were young you dressed yourself, 00:41:02.78\00:41:05.88 kind of wish sometimes may be, no. 00:41:05.91\00:41:11.12 "When you were younger you dressed yourself 00:41:11.15\00:41:14.67 and you walked where you wished but," 00:41:14.70\00:41:16.99 now hold on, here it comes. 00:41:17.02\00:41:18.66 "But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands 00:41:18.69\00:41:23.24 and another will dress you and carry you 00:41:23.27\00:41:25.33 where you do not wish to go." That is old age. 00:41:25.36\00:41:32.47 I've had a chance to see it up close in personal. 00:41:32.50\00:41:37.89 With my mother-in-law, such a classic regal woman 00:41:37.92\00:41:42.21 by the way Karen's mom, Virginia Oswald. 00:41:42.24\00:41:45.99 Just a sweetheart, I've known her for years 00:41:46.02\00:41:48.04 and always well manicured 00:41:48.07\00:41:50.73 and dressed with such taste for beauty. 00:41:50.76\00:41:53.71 But as she aged, she was living with us here in this community. 00:41:53.74\00:41:57.58 As she aged her mind and her memory began to dim. 00:41:57.61\00:42:05.01 Until she couldn't remember 00:42:05.04\00:42:06.29 which dress to wear or not to wear 00:42:06.32\00:42:08.11 or how many days in a row she's already worn it. 00:42:08.14\00:42:12.44 And so her daughter had to become her dresser. 00:42:12.47\00:42:16.09 No, mother not that dress again. 00:42:16.12\00:42:18.23 Let's try this one today. 00:42:18.26\00:42:21.59 And there she was all dress up and no where to go. 00:42:21.62\00:42:26.31 Sitting in that easy chair until we would come 00:42:26.34\00:42:30.16 and we would take her by the hand. 00:42:30.19\00:42:33.72 And we would lead her to the car 00:42:33.75\00:42:35.90 and we would lead her to church. 00:42:35.93\00:42:38.36 And we would lead her to the house. 00:42:38.39\00:42:40.76 We would lead her to the wheelchair. 00:42:40.79\00:42:45.54 Until the day she died this last September. 00:42:45.57\00:42:48.37 It was a Sabbath evening just before Sunday. 00:42:48.40\00:42:52.04 I'm so grateful we both were there, 00:42:52.07\00:42:53.80 we were holding her hand on either side of her. 00:42:53.83\00:42:57.20 Holding her hands, her eyes open. 00:42:57.23\00:43:00.37 And then she breathed her last. 00:43:00.40\00:43:04.76 That's what happens in old age. 00:43:04.79\00:43:07.53 When you're young dressed yourself, 00:43:07.56\00:43:08.97 you go wherever you want. 00:43:09.00\00:43:10.03 But when you become old somebody else dresses you, 00:43:10.06\00:43:12.67 somebody else takes you where you don't want to go, 00:43:12.70\00:43:14.94 but you have to go anyway. 00:43:14.97\00:43:17.48 "Do you love Me? 00:43:20.99\00:43:23.43 Will you follow Me even unto death?" 00:43:23.46\00:43:27.60 Even to the death that comes at the end of what Nietzsche 00:43:27.63\00:43:31.18 calls a long obedience in the same direction. 00:43:31.21\00:43:35.15 Now look, I'm not in the habit 00:43:35.18\00:43:36.50 of quoting atheist from this pulpit 00:43:36.53\00:43:37.92 but I'm gonna do it today 00:43:37.95\00:43:38.98 because Friedrich Nietzsche quietly profound these words, 00:43:39.01\00:43:42.99 so we're gonna put it on the screen for you. 00:43:43.02\00:43:44.27 The great atheist of 20th century, 00:43:44.30\00:43:47.12 "The essential thing 'in heaven and earth'" Nietzsche writing. 00:43:47.15\00:43:50.84 "The essential thing 'in heaven and earth' 00:43:50.87\00:43:52.18 is that there should be 00:43:52.21\00:43:53.24 long obedience in the same direction." 00:43:53.27\00:43:57.09 I'm gonna hold that screen in front of your eyes for a moment. 00:43:57.12\00:43:59.36 I want you to lock that phrase in your mind. 00:43:59.39\00:44:01.77 "Long obedience in the same direction. 00:44:01.80\00:44:07.46 There thereby results, and has always resulted in the long run, 00:44:07.49\00:44:10.74 something which has made life worth living." 00:44:10.77\00:44:15.08 A long obedience in the same direction 00:44:15.11\00:44:20.12 really does make life worth living, doesn't it? 00:44:20.15\00:44:24.21 I think of the hundreds of you in this community 00:44:24.24\00:44:28.59 who live in a community dedicated to the young. 00:44:28.62\00:44:31.58 Everything we do here is for the young. 00:44:31.61\00:44:34.27 And what you do, you who have sojourned long on this pathway. 00:44:34.30\00:44:39.74 I'll look at you with utter admiration. 00:44:39.77\00:44:42.80 Talking about a long obedience in the same direction. 00:44:42.83\00:44:46.93 Look at the way you faithfully live, 00:44:46.96\00:44:49.96 quiet, no fanfare as you follow after the same Jesus. 00:44:49.99\00:44:54.23 You're obedient to your Lord and your master and your work. 00:44:54.26\00:44:57.32 You're obedient to Him in your marriage. 00:44:57.35\00:44:59.86 You're obedient to Him in your worship. 00:44:59.89\00:45:02.26 You're obedient to Him in your retirement. 00:45:02.29\00:45:06.15 A long obedience in the same direction 00:45:06.18\00:45:11.01 and I think to myself 00:45:11.04\00:45:12.70 how lucky this congregation is to have people like you. 00:45:12.73\00:45:19.18 'Cause life isn't only about the young, 00:45:19.21\00:45:22.54 it's about those who are aged, slowly but surely. 00:45:22.57\00:45:28.23 "Do you love Me?" 00:45:28.26\00:45:30.71 really means "Will you follow Me?" 00:45:30.74\00:45:32.83 And will you follow Me means till your last breath. 00:45:32.86\00:45:38.11 So Jesus is explaining all this to Peter. 00:45:38.14\00:45:40.29 All right, it's okay, so Peter 00:45:40.32\00:45:41.35 and they're walking, having a very private conversation, 00:45:41.38\00:45:43.36 walking along the Sea of Galilee 00:45:43.39\00:45:45.37 when Peter suddenly notices some movement behind him 00:45:45.40\00:45:47.83 and He rolls around, it's John boy, 00:45:47.86\00:45:50.66 what, you've been eavesdropping on this whole conversation?
