Lewis's classic Mere Christianity. 00:17:11.21\00:17:16.85 You know the-- 00:17:16.88\00:17:17.93 You know its dogger 00:17:17.96\00:17:18.99 when you have to put a rubber band around it 00:17:19.02\00:17:20.67 to keep the pages inside. 00:17:20.70\00:17:23.84 Some books are just worth hanging on to. 00:17:23.87\00:17:27.85 I'm gonna read a line 00:17:27.88\00:17:28.91 from Mere Christianity for two reasons. 00:17:28.94\00:17:31.10 Number one, the line sets up our-- 00:17:31.13\00:17:33.30 sets up our metaphor 00:17:33.33\00:17:34.45 for this teaching today called the invasion. 00:17:34.48\00:17:37.56 And the number two, I have been 00:17:37.59\00:17:42.01 cut by surprise over the last few weeks 00:17:42.04\00:17:44.49 just the last few weeks. 00:17:44.52\00:17:46.95 As I had a four young adults 00:17:46.98\00:17:49.55 to my prayer list, my personal prayer list. 00:17:49.58\00:17:53.16 Four young adults who are wrestling 00:17:53.19\00:17:54.42 over the existence of God. 00:17:54.45\00:17:56.88 I need to tell you the C S Lewis is a young man 00:17:56.91\00:17:58.87 was an atheist. 00:17:58.90\00:17:59.94 It's okay, it's okay to have questions about faith, 00:18:03.01\00:18:06.19 its okay to-- to have doubt, it's not the end of the world. 00:18:06.22\00:18:11.11 C S Lewis became a believer as the young man. 00:18:11.14\00:18:14.30 A believer in Christ. 00:18:14.33\00:18:16.40 And when one to become arguably the greatest apologist, 00:18:16.43\00:18:19.54 the greatest defender of Christianity 00:18:19.57\00:18:21.86 in the 20th century. 00:18:21.89\00:18:23.58 Great mind in writings. 00:18:23.61\00:18:26.72 So, he gave these talks actually over the BBC 00:18:26.75\00:18:29.94 during World War II 00:18:29.97\00:18:31.03 after the talks were given, after the war 00:18:31.06\00:18:33.40 collected it made put into this books. 00:18:33.43\00:18:35.19 So this is from page 50 00:18:35.22\00:18:38.72 of the little classic Mere Christianity, 00:18:38.75\00:18:40.61 I freely admit, Lewis writes "That real Christianity 00:18:40.64\00:18:43.60 as distinct from Christianity and water. 00:18:43.63\00:18:45.75 All right water down Christianity, 00:18:45.78\00:18:47.22 "Real Christianity goes much nearer 00:18:47.25\00:18:49.46 to Dualism than people think." 00:18:49.49\00:18:51.09 Dualism teaches there're two eternal forces, 00:18:51.12\00:18:53.05 good and evil, they're both eternal. 00:18:53.08\00:18:54.82 You just stuck with them for ever. 00:18:54.85\00:18:57.06 But it says, we might be close to that 00:18:57.09\00:18:58.45 "One of the things-- One of the things 00:18:58.48\00:18:59.93 that surprised me when I first read 00:18:59.96\00:19:01.54 the New Testament as a young man 00:19:01.57\00:19:03.76 rather it seriously was that 00:19:03.79\00:19:04.84 it talked so much about a Dark Power in the universe, 00:19:04.87\00:19:08.30 a mighty evil spirit who was held to be the Power 00:19:08.33\00:19:11.09 behind death and disease, and sin. 00:19:11.12\00:19:12.96 The difference is that Christianity thinks 00:19:12.99\00:19:15.55 this Dark Power was created by God, 00:19:15.58\00:19:17.24 and was good, when he was created, 00:19:17.27\00:19:18.65 and went wrong. 00:19:18.68\00:19:20.40 Christianity agrees with Dualism 00:19:20.43\00:19:22.77 that this universe is at war. 00:19:22.80\00:19:24.04 But it does not think this is a war 00:19:24.07\00:19:25.32 between independent powers. 00:19:25.35\00:19:26.85 It thinks it is a civil war, a rebellion, 00:19:26.88\00:19:29.79 and that we are living in a part of the universe 00:19:29.82\00:19:31.37 occupied by the rebel." 00:19:31.40\00:19:33.22 Right on. I agree with C S Lewis. 00:19:33.25\00:19:35.52 And if not here comes the line. 00:19:35.55\00:19:37.07 "Enemy-occupied territory that is what this world is. 00:19:37.10\00:19:41.39 Christianity is the story 00:19:41.42\00:19:43.09 of how the rightful king has landed, 00:19:43.12\00:19:45.54 you might say landed in disguise, 00:19:45.57\00:19:48.94 and is calling us all to take part 00:19:48.97\00:19:50.75 in a great campaign of sabotage." 00:19:50.78\00:19:54.73 Landing behind enemy lines like-- 00:19:54.76\00:19:56.44 I like the metaphor. 00:19:56.47\00:19:57.51 Landing in disguise, the invasion. 00:19:57.54\00:20:02.00 A king or as little baby in a village. 00:20:02.03\00:20:06.21 2,000 years ago, who's the king? 00:20:06.24\00:20:09.70 And by the way, what in the world was that, 00:20:09.73\00:20:10.84 does that have to do with his teachings series 00:20:10.87\00:20:12.29 we are in called the Sabbath. 00:20:12.32\00:20:14.15 Do they fit, what's the peaces fit, 00:20:14.18\00:20:16.08 let's-- let's explore together. 00:20:16.11\00:20:18.09 Open your Bible please to two books, 00:20:18.12\00:20:19.39 we've done-- we gonna do something today 00:20:19.42\00:20:20.83 we have never done before 00:20:20.86\00:20:22.11 and that is we gonna read two books simultaneously. 00:20:22.14\00:20:25.02 Book of Genesis and the book of John. 00:20:25.05\00:20:26.86 So pull your Bible out, 00:20:26.89\00:20:27.92 if you don't have a Bible, grab the Pew Bible. 00:20:27.95\00:20:29.67 We got to go. 00:20:29.70\00:20:31.24 We're gonna fly through this, 00:20:31.27\00:20:32.44 two Bibles-- two books simultaneously, 00:20:32.47\00:20:35.12 we gonna read just their openings, their prologs. 00:20:35.15\00:20:38.11 You gonna be amazed as I was at the dramatic similarity 00:20:38.14\00:20:42.67 between the opening to the Old Testament 00:20:42.70\00:20:44.60 and the opening to the New Testament. 00:20:44.63\00:20:46.73 Is there wait a minute, 00:20:46.76\00:20:47.79 Pastor John is not the opening to the New Testament, 00:20:47.82\00:20:49.80 it's Mathew, no, but John's prolog 00:20:49.83\00:20:52.19 actually goes back before Bethlehem, way before, 00:20:52.22\00:20:54.89 so we could call John effectively 00:20:54.92\00:20:56.55 the prolog to the New Testament. 00:20:56.58\00:20:58.11 So we got the Genesis and John. 00:20:58.14\00:21:00.70 Now everybody knows where Geneses 1 is where will be, 00:21:00.73\00:21:04.11 but John if you have ribbon in your Bible, 00:21:04.14\00:21:06.45 take a ribbon right now because you going-- 00:21:06.48\00:21:08.24 you going to going back and forth. 00:21:08.27\00:21:09.62 Put your ribbon in John 1, 00:21:09.65\00:21:11.68 if you got a Bible with a ribbon, 00:21:11.71\00:21:13.14 if you don't, put your both in John 1, 00:21:13.17\00:21:15.19 we'll get a study guide to you just a second. 00:21:15.22\00:21:17.62 We want to know seven strikingly dramatic parallels 00:21:17.65\00:21:22.03 between Genesis and John. 00:21:22.06\00:21:23.49 If I guess, let's do the study guide right now. 00:21:23.52\00:21:25.64 Let's put the study guide, if you do-- 00:21:25.67\00:21:26.83 if you came in today with out a study guide, 00:21:26.86\00:21:28.75 you didn't get a worship bulletin, 00:21:28.78\00:21:29.96 assures thank you very much. 00:21:29.99\00:21:31.32 Hold your hands up 00:21:31.35\00:21:32.38 our friendly assures will be by you 00:21:32.41\00:21:33.87 in a just a moment all way to the back of the balcony. the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." 00:23:00.15\00:23:04.77 When we get-- when we began the series 00:23:04.80\00:23:06.35 three times ago, 00:23:06.38\00:23:07.78 we remembered that in Christmas eve 1968 00:23:07.81\00:23:10.37 the Apollo Crew looking out 00:23:10.40\00:23:12.28 the little space portal of their capsule 00:23:12.31\00:23:15.55 saw this terrestrial blue green ball 00:23:15.58\00:23:17.47 and they quoted these words to a broad cast center the world 00:23:17.50\00:23:21.21 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." 00:23:21.24\00:23:23.45 Okay, so if you don't have a ribbon. 00:23:30.05\00:23:31.08 Let's look at John 1:1. John 1. 00:23:31.11\00:23:35.52 John 1:1 "In the beginning" look at that, 00:23:35.55\00:23:38.69 "In the beginning" different language 00:23:38.72\00:23:40.65 Greek and the New Testament Hebrew New Testament 00:23:40.68\00:23:43.46 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God," 00:23:43.49\00:23:47.29 as there capital W word "and the Word was God." 00:23:47.32\00:23:50.13 verse 2 "He was in the beginning with God." 00:23:50.16\00:23:51.88 now notice the verse 3 00:23:51.91\00:23:53.21 "All things were made through Him, 00:23:53.24\00:23:54.54 and without Him nothing was made that was made." 00:23:54.57\00:23:57.98 You know, that-- the Greek word for word 00:23:58.01\00:24:00.45 is logos. 00:24:00.48\00:24:02.20 From when it comes to English word logo, 00:24:02.23\00:24:04.30 as they drop the S we got logo. 00:24:04.33\00:24:05.83 You know what a logo is, don't you? 00:24:05.86\00:24:07.22 A logo is that which becomes 00:24:07.25\00:24:08.66 a visual representation of a reality 00:24:08.69\00:24:11.40 that you can't see, but you have the logo. 00:24:11.43\00:24:13.55 And when you see Andrews University's logo, 00:24:13.58\00:24:15.02 you say, ha, when you see pioneers logo 00:24:15.05\00:24:16.74 on the cover of our bulletin up, 00:24:16.77\00:24:17.88 apple's the logo on the back of a computer 00:24:17.91\00:24:20.22 all lighted up in white, apple you know the logo. 00:24:20.25\00:24:23.86 What it represents. 00:24:23.89\00:24:25.01 So the word is a logo. It's a divine logo. 00:24:25.04\00:24:29.78 See Him? 00:24:29.81\00:24:31.56 He represents the reality behind the logo, the logos. 00:24:31.59\00:24:34.76 By the way John is the only one of the New Testament writers 00:24:34.79\00:24:37.01 to use this word logos 00:24:37.04\00:24:38.44 to refer to one of the members of the God head. 00:24:38.47\00:24:40.46 So it's the significant word. 00:24:40.49\00:24:44.11 I like this Desire of Ages 19 00:24:44.14\00:24:46.05 see in your study guide fill it in. 00:24:46.08\00:24:47.28 "By coming to dwell with us, 00:24:47.31\00:24:48.44 Jesus was to reveal God both to men and to angels. 00:24:48.47\00:24:51.02 He was the Word of God, he was God's thought made audible." 00:24:51.05\00:24:54.36 Look it, You and I look at each other right now 00:24:54.39\00:24:56.02 and neither of us-- neither of us speaks 00:24:56.05\00:24:57.97 I have no idea what you thinking, 00:24:58.00\00:24:59.59 you have no idea of what I'm thinking. 00:24:59.62\00:25:00.95 I have to open my mouth, 00:25:00.98\00:25:02.06 once I put words to it, you know my thoughts, 00:25:02.09\00:25:03.97 once you put words to it, I know your thoughts. 00:25:04.00\00:25:06.28 That's what the word. 00:25:06.31\00:25:07.62 Capital W word was. 00:25:07.65\00:25:09.37 So what is parallel-- parallel one 00:25:09.40\00:25:10.94 between Genesis and John 1 teaches? 00:25:10.97\00:25:12.64 Write it down Christ is the creator, 00:25:12.67\00:25:16.06 Christ is a creator of the world/ universe. 00:25:16.09\00:25:18.81 No question. 00:25:18.84\00:25:19.87 Genesis just says God, John 1 comes on 00:25:19.90\00:25:22.08 and says let me tell you it was Christ Himself. 00:25:22.11\00:25:24.16 By the way not only John teaches that, 00:25:24.19\00:25:25.44 not only-- not only John 00:25:25.47\00:25:26.90 but Paul teaches it, 00:25:26.93\00:25:27.96 Hebrew, Hebrew teaches it as well. 00:25:27.99\00:25:30.65 In fact the New Testament is unequivocal. 00:25:30.68\00:25:32.65 Jap this down the active divine agent, 00:25:32.68\00:25:36.74 see there in your study guide the active divine agent 00:25:36.77\00:25:38.59 who created the earth in the beginning, 00:25:38.62\00:25:40.52 the God who personally shaped 00:25:40.55\00:25:42.28 Adam and Eve into existence was the preincarnate Christ. 00:25:42.31\00:25:45.65 Genesis 2: 7 when it says 00:25:45.68\00:25:46.72 "The Lord God made man of the dust of the ground" 00:25:46.75\00:25:49.73 that is Christ He became Jesus. 00:25:49.76\00:25:52.35 That's Christ's over that little hunk of clay, 00:25:52.38\00:25:55.37 we've got to personality. 00:25:55.40\00:25:56.43 We can put to the God of Genesis 1. 00:25:56.46\00:25:59.96 That's Christ. 00:25:59.99\00:26:01.02 In fact, John 1, Colossians 1, Hebrews 1, 00:26:01.05\00:26:03.22 and I tell you, people, you wanted to know 00:26:03.25\00:26:04.30 where Christ is that created 00:26:04.33\00:26:05.36 John 1, Colossians 1, Hebrews 1, 00:26:05.39\00:26:06.64 let's go to Colossians 1 00:26:06.67\00:26:07.70 "For by Him all things were created 00:26:07.73\00:26:10.42 that are in heaven and that are on earth, 00:26:10.45\00:26:12.12 visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions 00:26:12.15\00:26:14.39 or principalities or powers. 00:26:14.42\00:26:16.37 All things were created through Him and for Him. 00:26:16.40\00:26:19.21 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 00:26:19.24\00:26:22.65 He is the activation of creation. Please. 00:46:34.10\00:46:37.89 It's the day He sanctified, 00:46:37.92\00:46:39.02 it's a day He blessed, it's a day He rested. 00:46:39.05\00:46:41.39 Which ladies and gentlemen 00:46:41.42\00:46:42.45 leads us to the concluding point, 00:46:42.48\00:46:43.83 it is a compelling point and I wish you'd write it down. 00:46:43.86\00:46:46.31 "These seventh parallels between Genesis and John 00:46:46.34\00:46:49.70 provide incontrovertible evidence 00:46:49.73\00:46:51.67 that the Creator's universal gift 00:46:51.70\00:46:53.97 of the seventh day Sabbath at Creation remains, 00:46:54.00\00:46:57.30 remains his universal gift in Redemption today." 00:46:57.33\00:47:02.44 Malachi 3:6, " I'm the Lord and I change not." 00:47:02.47\00:47:09.75 I don't change. 00:47:09.78\00:47:12.83 Now, ladies and gentlemen, this is not rocket science, 00:47:12.86\00:47:16.65 this is prayerful, logical thinking. 00:47:16.68\00:47:19.01 I need to ask a series of questions here. 00:47:19.04\00:47:22.94 Were Christ to have changed His mind? 00:47:22.97\00:47:24.56 Okay, okay, I change my mind. 00:47:24.59\00:47:26.93 I change my mind, I'm changing the day, 00:47:26.96\00:47:28.48 were Christ to have changed His mind? 00:47:28.51\00:47:30.69 Should we not expect to hear something from Jesus 00:47:30.72\00:47:34.29 indicating the fact that He has done so? 00:47:34.32\00:47:37.04 I mean somewhere between 00:47:37.07\00:47:38.12 the resurrection and the ascension, 00:47:38.15\00:47:40.02 He say, hey, timeout, guys, 00:47:40.05\00:47:41.10 I just needed to tell you, things have been changed. 00:47:41.13\00:47:42.77 I know I wrote it in rock, but forget it. 00:47:42.80\00:47:44.95 I'm changing it now. 00:47:44.98\00:47:46.04 Wouldn't He say something, just a hint, may be a breath, 00:47:46.07\00:47:50.72 just a suggestion, zero, not even a breath. 00:47:50.75\00:47:57.58 What's up with that? 00:48:01.69\00:48:05.94 Instead it's clear. 00:48:05.97\00:48:09.98 In fact M.L. Andreasen in his carefully reasoned book 00:48:10.01\00:48:12.22 The Sabbath, he puts it this way, 00:48:12.25\00:48:14.24 and you have it in your study guide, 00:48:14.27\00:48:15.30 let me read it in your hearing "God Himself." 00:48:15.33\00:48:18.24 This is careful logic here. 00:48:18.27\00:48:19.30 "God Himself led the way 00:48:19.33\00:48:20.70 in the observance of the seventh-day Sabbath. 00:48:20.73\00:48:23.97 Did it in the beginning, did it on Mount Sinai. 00:48:24.00\00:48:25.51 "He Himself proclaimed it in flaming fire from the mount." 00:48:25.54\00:48:28.05 That would be Mount Sinai. 00:48:28.08\00:48:29.25 "He Himself wrote it in enduring stone. 00:48:29.28\00:48:31.44 Millions of God's people were witnesses 00:48:31.47\00:48:33.27 at the base of Mount Sinai, 00:48:33.30\00:48:34.79 and they heard the proclamation, 00:48:34.82\00:48:35.89 and myriads of angels were there. 00:48:35.92\00:48:38.90 Psalm 68:17. 00:48:38.93\00:48:40.66 None of these conditions was present at the time 00:48:40.69\00:48:43.32 when the first day of the week 00:48:43.35\00:48:44.98 was supposed to have been instituted. 00:48:45.01\00:48:47.39 Sunday came in unannounced, unheralded, unnoticed, 00:48:47.42\00:48:51.96 in every way an anticlimax to the original institution 00:48:51.99\00:48:56.40 and inauguration of the Sabbath of the Lord." 00:48:56.43\00:48:59.10 Now he goes on, 00:48:59.13\00:49:00.18 "If God had anything to do with the first day of the week, 00:49:00.21\00:49:04.39 we must draw the conclusion that He wanted the change 00:49:04.42\00:49:07.12 to be made in the most secret and inconspicuous way possible, 00:49:07.15\00:49:11.50 for on the first Sunday." 00:49:11.53\00:49:13.43 My talents are his. 00:49:13.46\00:49:14.49 "Nobody knew that any change had been made, 00:49:14.52\00:49:17.99 not even the disciples, who some say were the ones 00:49:18.02\00:49:20.58 who were supposed to have changed it! 00:49:20.61\00:49:22.00 They were in as complete ignorance as the rest, 00:49:22.03\00:49:24.73 having locked themselves in a room for fear of the Jews." 00:49:24.76\00:49:29.09 The fact remains, there is not a solitary hint, 00:49:36.30\00:49:42.13 there is a not a single word in all the New Testament 00:49:42.16\00:49:46.56 indicating that Christ changed His mind as Creator 00:49:46.59\00:49:51.59 and changed the day. 00:49:51.62\00:49:53.43 No where, no where, 00:49:53.46\00:49:55.83 not from the apostles, not from the Savior. 00:49:55.86\00:50:00.77 I mean come on, just think with me, 00:50:00.80\00:50:02.17 would Jesus, had declared Himself 00:50:02.20\00:50:04.02 to be the Lord of the Sabbath, 00:50:04.05\00:50:05.15 knowing in that in just a few days 00:50:05.18\00:50:06.58 the whole thing's over. 00:50:06.61\00:50:07.92 Then would He say, I'm Lord of the Sabbath, 00:50:07.95\00:50:09.28 and few days later it's gone. 00:50:09.31\00:50:12.99 To the contrary, do you know what Jesus did? 00:50:13.02\00:50:15.78 He told His disciples 40 years after I'm gone. 00:50:15.81\00:50:18.21 40 years after I'm back in heaven, 00:50:18.24\00:50:19.80 you will still be worshiping on the seventh-day Sabbath. 00:50:19.83\00:50:22.83 He told them. 00:50:22.86\00:50:23.91 It's in the great chapter of prophecy, Christ's predictions. 00:50:23.94\00:50:27.21 Look at this Matthew 24:15 00:50:27.24\00:50:29.44 "Therefore Jesus says, when you see 00:50:29.47\00:50:30.89 the ''abomination of desolation,'' 00:50:30.92\00:50:32.96 that would be the Romans 00:50:32.99\00:50:34.06 "Spoken of by Daniel the prophet, 00:50:34.09\00:50:35.27 standing in the holy place..." 00:50:35.30\00:50:36.34 When the Romans invade this city, 00:50:36.37\00:50:37.82 I want to tell you something. 00:50:37.85\00:50:38.94 "Whoever reads, let him understand, 00:50:38.97\00:50:41.02 then let those who are in Judea..." 00:50:41.05\00:50:42.94 Guys, just get out of the land. 00:50:42.97\00:50:44.84 "Flee to the mountains." 00:50:44.87\00:50:45.91 Now notice verse 20 "And pray that your flight 00:50:45.94\00:50:48.77 may not be in winter or on the Sabbath." 00:50:48.80\00:50:51.95 Christ is predicting 00:50:51.98\00:50:53.06 the destruction of Jerusalem's temple in 70 AD 00:50:53.09\00:50:56.69 and He says you will be celebrating the Sabbath then, 00:50:56.72\00:50:59.64 pray to the Lord of the Sabbath 00:50:59.67\00:51:01.84 to be your defense, your deliverer, 00:51:01.87\00:51:04.07 call up on me, call up on me, 00:51:04.10\00:51:07.58 when the city melts down and burns the temple. 00:51:07.61\00:51:14.09 The evidence is clear and compelling. Jot it down. 00:51:14.12\00:51:17.94 "The Seventh-day Sabbath remains the Lord's Day today." 00:51:17.97\00:51:23.80 It's it. 00:51:23.83\00:51:25.28 Neither Christ nor the apostles knew or taught any other, 00:51:25.31\00:51:28.10 their silence is deafening, deafening. 00:51:28.13\00:51:34.99 And any scholar 00:51:35.02\00:51:37.26 of the New Testament will tell you, 00:51:37.29\00:51:39.70 that in fact this is true. 00:51:39.73\00:51:44.11 Then how can be, you ask? Come on, come on, Dwight. 00:51:44.14\00:51:45.72 Please nearly all of Christendom today 00:51:45.75\00:51:47.11 is worshiping on the first day of the week 00:51:47.14\00:51:48.99 rather than the Bible seventh-day Sabbath. 00:51:49.02\00:51:50.28 How can it be, You can't tell me 00:51:50.31\00:51:51.34 that all these churches are wrong. 00:51:51.37\00:51:54.06 I want to share with you next week, 00:51:54.09\00:51:55.12 I want to share with you 00:51:55.15\00:51:56.18 one of the most fascinating studies, stories. 00:51:56.21\00:51:59.37 We'll call it the Case of Dr, Eck. 00:51:59.40\00:52:03.46 I just found this, I never knew this. 00:52:03.49\00:52:05.84 Just reading couple months ago 00:52:05.87\00:52:07.68 came across the story of Martin Luther's trial, 00:52:07.71\00:52:09.83 Dr. Eck by the way was the Roman Catholic protagonist 00:52:09.86\00:52:13.15 for Martin Luther in that great trial. 00:52:13.18\00:52:16.45 Stunning bit of logic that Dr. Eck uses. 00:52:16.48\00:52:21.90 I want to share that with you next week, please, 00:52:21.93\00:52:23.96 wherever you are, just get back here, 00:52:23.99\00:52:25.79 get back here for next week. 00:52:25.82\00:52:27.77 If you're watching on television, 00:52:27.80\00:52:28.93 join us next week. 00:52:28.96\00:52:30.26 Listen on the radio, turn on the radio, 00:52:30.29\00:52:32.95 please join us, fascinating study. 00:52:32.98\00:52:35.48 Listen, got to end. 00:52:35.51\00:52:36.54 We began with C.S. Lewis's classic Mere Christianity. 00:52:36.57\00:52:38.94 Let me close now with another classic 00:52:38.97\00:52:40.92 written by Charles Sheldon, it's the book "In His Steps." 00:52:40.95\00:52:44.33 Written a century ago, the book became 00:52:44.36\00:52:45.67 an international best seller. 00:52:45.70\00:52:47.61 If you don't have the book, any bookstore on earth, 00:52:47.64\00:52:51.33 particularly Christian bookstores 00:52:51.36\00:52:53.26 will carry Sheldon's book "In His Steps." 00:52:53.29\00:52:55.62 Now it's a fictionalized story 00:52:55.65\00:52:57.99 of a pastor named Henry Maxwell and this church, 00:52:58.02\00:53:00.17 the first church of Raymond, 00:53:00.20\00:53:01.49 so it's Sunday and the pastor's waxing eloquent, 00:53:01.52\00:53:04.81 his preaching was just about to ready to move 00:53:04.84\00:53:06.88 toward the summation of a sermon 00:53:06.91\00:53:08.53 when down the center aisle of the church 00:53:08.56\00:53:12.11 is a tramp but now we don't call him tramps, 00:53:12.14\00:53:13.62 we call him a homeless man, a homeless man 00:53:13.65\00:53:15.50 is just stumbling down the center aisle, 00:53:15.53\00:53:17.89 he gets down to the front and he looks up 00:53:17.92\00:53:19.62 with the preacher asking for permission 00:53:19.65\00:53:22.17 and the distressed pastor, what else can I do? 00:53:22.20\00:53:24.41 Go ahead. 00:53:24.44\00:53:25.48 The beggar turns around and addresses the congregation, 00:53:25.51\00:53:28.62 "I've been out of work from New York City. 00:53:28.65\00:53:31.74 I've been out of work. 00:53:31.77\00:53:34.41 I came to your city a few days ago. 00:53:34.44\00:53:37.39 I've been going from-- I'm a printer by trade, 00:53:37.42\00:53:39.73 I've been going from store-- establishment to establishment, 00:53:39.76\00:53:42.29 store to store to store, seen some of you, 00:53:42.32\00:53:44.96 not a single word of sympathy from you. 00:53:44.99\00:53:48.32 My wife's dead, I got a little girl left 00:53:48.35\00:53:49.88 with the printer back in New York. 00:53:49.91\00:53:52.60 You know what?
