00:24:17.08\00:24:19.44 "You have heard Jesus still speaking, 00:24:19.47\00:24:21.19 that it was said to those of old 00:24:21.22\00:24:22.88 'You shall not commit adultery.'" 00:24:22.91\00:24:25.28 Everybody knows the seventh commandment. 00:24:25.31\00:24:27.44 "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman 00:24:27.47\00:24:31.00 to lust for her has already committed adultery 00:24:31.03\00:24:34.10 with her in his heart." 00:24:34.13\00:24:35.58 And I just want you ladies to know 00:24:35.61\00:24:36.93 that the Sermon on the Mount is an equal opportunity employer 00:24:36.96\00:24:40.35 and you are included as well. 00:24:40.38\00:24:42.67 You look at a man with lust in your heart, 00:24:42.70\00:24:44.40 you are a part of that. 00:24:44.43\00:24:45.63 Don't you just push it off on us men, all right? 00:24:45.66\00:24:50.78 Write it down please, talking about lust. 00:24:50.81\00:24:53.43 Lust is the opposite of mercy. 00:24:53.46\00:24:56.96 Watch this, Mercy lives to preserve, 00:24:56.99\00:24:59.86 but lust lives to consume. 00:24:59.89\00:25:03.22 Lust is like I got to have it, 00:25:03.25\00:25:04.32 I got to have it, I got to have it. 00:25:04.35\00:25:07.00 The opposite of mercy. 00:25:07.03\00:25:08.75 Jesus exposes here the sin of the heart that nobody knows, 00:25:08.78\00:25:11.77 nobody sees it of course except for God Himself. 00:25:11.80\00:25:15.22 So for mercy to come running to the man, 00:25:15.25\00:25:16.86 to the woman who is struggling 00:25:16.89\00:25:18.50 with the temptation to lust after another. 00:25:18.53\00:25:20.91 Jesus does not describe third party intervention. 00:25:20.94\00:25:25.44 In fact, you know, what else 00:25:25.47\00:25:26.59 I'm very glad to tell you this, Jesus does not say 00:25:26.62\00:25:28.39 that the cure for this is going to be painful 00:25:28.42\00:25:30.25 because I want you to get up 00:25:30.28\00:25:31.31 and tell everybody that you know, 00:25:31.34\00:25:32.49 that you have lust in your heart. 00:25:32.52\00:25:34.36 You don't have to do that, don't have to do that at all. 00:25:34.39\00:25:36.87 Jimmy Carter did it once you don't have to. 00:25:36.90\00:25:41.72 Jesus says, no, no, 00:25:41.75\00:25:43.94 it's in your heart just between you and me. 00:25:43.97\00:25:46.31 What I want you to do, cut it out, cut it out. 00:25:46.34\00:25:51.10 Take a look at that verse 29, 00:25:51.13\00:25:53.15 Jesus says, if your right eyes is offending you, 00:25:53.18\00:25:55.32 what you are watching, cut it out, just take it out. 00:25:55.35\00:25:58.28 I would rather go to heaven with one eye missing 00:25:58.31\00:26:00.24 and be saved than to go to hell with two eyes good. 00:26:00.27\00:26:02.81 That's Jesus point, 00:26:02.84\00:26:03.91 and what does He say in the next verse? 00:26:03.94\00:26:05.21 Verse 30, "If your right hand is offending you, 00:26:05.24\00:26:07.06 prune, cut it off, 00:26:07.09\00:26:08.29 I would rather go to heaven with one arm 00:26:08.32\00:26:09.38 and be saved than go to hell with two good arms. 00:26:09.41\00:26:12.11 Cut it out, cut it off. 00:26:12.14\00:26:15.56 It's the most merciful way that God can think of 00:26:15.59\00:26:17.55 to stop our lust. 00:26:17.58\00:26:19.57 Confess it to me, cut if out. 00:26:19.60\00:26:21.60 And by the way, if you do not, the life of lust, 00:26:21.63\00:26:24.93 the life of lust is a life of heartache. 00:26:24.96\00:26:28.28 I received a letter from a viewer, 00:26:28.31\00:26:31.03 out of state, this week 00:26:31.06\00:26:34.15 who was struggling with pornography. 00:26:34.18\00:26:39.07 And my heartache for the depth of this man's struggle, 00:26:39.10\00:26:41.47 we now fear he is going to prison. 00:26:41.50\00:26:45.53 I share this with you man in particular, 00:26:45.56\00:26:47.76 man, man, man. 00:26:47.79\00:26:49.45 I share it with you and me 00:26:49.48\00:26:52.10 because of the horrific enslavement 00:26:52.13\00:26:54.50 that internet pornography is now exerting on males. 00:26:54.53\00:26:59.22 Jesus' thirds command to cut it out, 00:27:03.99\00:27:06.95 does not be literally, immensity of lust addiction 00:27:06.98\00:27:09.49 at the heart you are healing my friend, 00:27:09.52\00:27:10.83 there must be the sacrificial death of Christ 00:27:10.86\00:27:12.75 for all our sins, 00:27:12.78\00:27:13.95 every single one of them and by the way 00:27:13.98\00:27:15.97 and this is why it is critical that you hear 00:27:16.00\00:27:17.89 what we shared last week, if you have not heard it. 00:27:17.92\00:27:20.02 If God can forgive, 00:27:20.05\00:27:21.71 if God can put into the family tree of the Messiah, 00:27:21.74\00:27:24.31 If He can put Tamar and Rahab and Ruth 00:27:24.34\00:27:29.30 and David and Bathsheba and Manasseh, 00:27:29.33\00:27:31.26 whom we noted last week 00:27:31.29\00:27:32.78 all were involved with sexual sin. 00:27:32.81\00:27:36.21 If God can put them in the family tree 00:27:36.24\00:27:38.21 of the Messiah, there is no addiction 00:27:38.24\00:27:40.43 that can keep you out, no addiction. 00:27:40.46\00:27:43.87 Hallelujah, so Jesus says, 00:27:43.90\00:27:44.93 cut it out, with that cut it out comes His forgiveness. 00:27:44.96\00:27:48.58 But it's not just the cut it out of forgiveness 00:27:48.61\00:27:50.54 that we need, we need Calvary offers victory as well. 00:27:50.57\00:27:55.33 I can keep it cut out aspect of the cross. 00:27:55.36\00:27:58.82 As I wrote to this now friend, 00:27:58.85\00:28:04.58 in this country I said you know what, 00:28:04.61\00:28:07.40 you are taking the right steps 00:28:07.43\00:28:08.92 but my friend in order for this to be complete, 00:28:08.95\00:28:11.39 you have got to go to somebody. 00:28:11.42\00:28:13.43 This is assisted living movement now, 00:28:13.46\00:28:15.25 you can't do this on your own. 00:28:15.28\00:28:18.02 Go to a spiritual council or somebody you trust. 00:28:18.05\00:28:20.42 You know we are living in a day and age 00:28:20.45\00:28:21.84 everything goes on American television 00:28:21.87\00:28:23.20 so, you can talk you don't have to tell everybody 00:28:23.23\00:28:25.34 but tell somebody, tell somebody that you need help. 00:28:25.37\00:28:28.79 Trust that person, find that help 00:28:28.82\00:28:32.01 and then cut it out and keep it out. 00:28:32.04\00:28:34.40 Mercy comes a running, mercy-- 00:28:34.43\00:28:39.81 Don't live with that secret any longer. 00:28:39.84\00:28:42.13 Mercy is running to you my friend 00:28:42.16\00:28:43.48 and it will lead you to help. 00:28:43.51\00:28:44.63 You see, mercy for our private lives, 00:28:44.66\00:28:46.33 mercy for our private lives, 00:28:46.36\00:28:47.44 would you write this down please. 00:28:47.47\00:28:49.43 Real Life Clip Number 2, Mercy for the lustful. 00:28:49.46\00:28:55.63 Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy. 00:28:55.66\00:29:00.86 Real Life Clip Number 3, write it down. 00:29:00.89\00:29:02.45 Mercy for the married. 00:29:02.48\00:29:04.72 This is where it gets a little unpretty now, 00:29:04.75\00:29:05.99 this isn't real pretty. 00:29:06.02\00:29:07.76 All right, mercy for the married that's verse 31, 00:29:07.79\00:29:10.35 "Furthermore Jesus said, it has been said, 00:29:10.38\00:29:12.84 'Whoever divorces his wife, 00:29:12.87\00:29:14.20 let him give her a certificate of divorce.'" 00:29:14.23\00:29:16.36 Be gone with you. 00:29:16.39\00:29:17.90 Verse 32, "But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife 00:29:17.93\00:29:21.66 for any reason except sexual immorality 00:29:21.69\00:29:25.18 causes her to commit adultery and whoever marries a woman 00:29:25.21\00:29:28.49 who is divorced commits adultery." 00:29:28.52\00:29:31.82 I told you some of these big screen clips 00:29:31.85\00:29:33.17 are not going to be pretty. 00:29:33.20\00:29:35.68 And a broken marriage threatened with divorce is never pretty, 00:29:35.71\00:29:40.83 but mercy doesn't have to be a stranger 00:29:40.86\00:29:43.92 with the broken heart or the unfaithful either. 00:29:43.95\00:29:46.19 On the basis of Matthew 5, 00:29:46.22\00:29:47.82 guess what some people are going around and said, 00:29:47.85\00:29:49.52 on the basis of Matthew 5, 00:29:49.55\00:29:50.71 you can say, adultery is the grounds for divorce 00:29:50.74\00:29:55.78 but because Matthew 5 is really about mercy 00:29:55.81\00:29:57.83 here is how I ought to read 00:29:57.86\00:29:58.94 and you have to write this down please. 00:29:58.97\00:30:00.48 Adultery is the ground for forgiveness, forgiveness. 00:30:00.51\00:30:05.16 Again I do not wish to belittle the fracturedness 00:30:10.13\00:30:12.63 of some marriages I understand that, 00:30:12.66\00:30:14.60 I have been a pastor for just a few years 00:30:14.63\00:30:17.22 but surely mercy came a running could also be 00:30:17.25\00:30:20.11 true for the most hopeless of marriages if, 00:30:20.14\00:30:22.87 if, if both parties are willing. 00:30:22.90\00:30:27.22 Both parties are willing to let mercy 00:49:00.98\00:49:03.02 He said come Hannah, North West Michigan. 00:49:04.42\00:49:07.32 And in a drafty, poorly, ventilated attic room 00:49:08.99\00:49:12.03 Hannah Moore, the new convert 00:49:12.06\00:49:14.19 to the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:49:14.22\00:49:15.96 took up residence and worked for a dollar fifty 00:49:15.99\00:49:19.04 a week for that family. 00:49:19.07\00:49:20.47 Ellen and James White who were absent from Battle Creek, 00:49:25.74\00:49:29.67 when Hannah Moore was turned away 00:49:29.70\00:49:31.08 began to correspond to Hannah. 00:49:31.11\00:49:33.27 They invited her to come and live with them in Battle Creek 00:49:35.03\00:49:37.71 but the winter had set in 00:49:37.74\00:49:39.07 and there was no way she could reach them now. 00:49:39.10\00:49:42.04 And besides the drafty and the chill and the smoke 00:49:42.07\00:49:44.98 from that poorly ventilated chimney went to her lungs. 00:49:45.01\00:49:48.01 And after several pitiful, pitiable letters 00:49:50.66\00:49:55.20 that she wrote to the White's, 00:49:55.23\00:49:56.55 Hannah Moore succumb to pneumonia. 00:49:56.58\00:49:58.67 I don't need to tell you, and when the White's 00:50:01.65\00:50:05.86 returned to Battle Creek. 00:50:05.89\00:50:07.60 41 year old Ellen was nearly livid with that congregation. 00:50:07.63\00:50:14.36 I said nearly livid. 00:50:14.39\00:50:19.91 What was on her heart, she made sure 00:50:19.94\00:50:23.15 we would know as well 00:50:23.18\00:50:24.89 in little collection of nine volumes 00:50:24.92\00:50:27.22 and volume one of that collection, 00:50:27.25\00:50:29.17 here are her words. 00:50:29.20\00:50:31.85 "From what we have since learned of the cold, 00:50:31.88\00:50:34.30 indifferent treatment which Sister Moore met with 00:50:34.33\00:50:37.32 at Battle Creek, it is evident that in stating 00:50:37.35\00:50:42.64 that no one in particular was worthy of censure in her case. 00:50:42.67\00:50:45.77 I just love this, because you see her husband 00:50:45.80\00:50:48.90 had written a little piece in the Review and Herald 00:50:48.93\00:50:51.72 and in that piece he said, you know, 00:50:51.75\00:50:53.38 I understand nobody in particular 00:50:53.41\00:50:55.07 is to blame for this. 00:50:55.10\00:50:56.18 Now, listen how she handles him or it. 00:50:56.21\00:51:00.85 It is evident that in stating that no one in particular 00:51:00.88\00:51:04.48 was worthy of censure in her case. 00:51:04.51\00:51:06.40 My husband took altogether 00:51:06.43\00:51:08.67 a too charitable view of the matter. 00:51:08.70\00:51:12.14 Polite way for saying he was dead wrong. 00:51:12.17\00:51:16.97 It's wrong, listen to that 00:51:17.00\00:51:20.09 41 year old woman go on, 00:51:20.12\00:51:23.46 When all the facts are known, 00:51:23.49\00:51:24.94 no Christian could but blame all the members 00:51:24.97\00:51:30.73 of that church who knew her circumstances and did not 00:51:30.76\00:51:33.64 individually interest themselves in her behalf. 00:51:33.67\00:51:36.42 Everybody is to blame. 00:51:36.45\00:51:37.83 She records some of the letters the last letter 00:51:42.95\00:51:44.85 Hannah Moore wrote, it ends because she couldn't 00:51:44.88\00:51:48.91 celebrate her Sabbath in the home. 00:51:48.94\00:51:50.22 She had to they said you could celebrate it 00:51:50.25\00:51:51.82 up there in your room. 00:51:51.85\00:51:53.90 And the room did I tell you, 00:51:53.93\00:51:56.13 smoky and chilled and so the very end of her last letter, 00:51:56.16\00:52:00.55 "I had another wakeful season last night, 00:52:00.58\00:52:02.55 how can you sleep in that, and feel poorly today. 00:52:02.58\00:52:05.36 Pray that whatever is God's will may be accomplished 00:52:05.39\00:52:08.12 in and through me, whether it be 00:52:08.15\00:52:09.59 by my life or death. 00:52:09.62\00:52:11.43 "Yours in hope of eternal life, Hannah Moore, PS. 00:52:11.46\00:52:15.43 "If you know of any way which I can reach you sooner, 00:52:15.46\00:52:19.30 please inform me. H. M." 00:52:19.33\00:52:21.87 she died. 00:52:21.90\00:52:26.27 Now, the 41 year old pen picks up, 00:52:26.30\00:52:32.79 She being dead yet speaketh. 00:52:32.82\00:52:37.89 Her letters, which I have given, 00:52:37.92\00:52:39.56 will be read with deep interest by those who have 00:52:39.59\00:52:41.77 read her obituary in a recent number of the Review. 00:52:41.80\00:52:44.85 She might have been a blessing to any 00:52:44.88\00:52:46.89 Sabbath keeping family who could appreciate her worth, 00:52:46.92\00:52:50.05 but she sleeps. 00:52:50.08\00:52:52.44 Our brothers and sisters at Battle Creek and in this 00:52:52.47\00:52:54.66 vicinity could have made more than 00:52:54.69\00:52:56.88 a welcome home for Jesus. 00:52:56.91\00:53:00.22 You could have had Jesus, you could have had Him, 00:53:00.25\00:53:03.44 you sent Him away. 00:53:03.47\00:53:07.98 Our brothers and sisters at Battle Creek could have 00:53:08.01\00:53:09.97 made more than a welcome home for Jesus, 00:53:10.00\00:53:11.91 in the person of this godly woman. 00:53:11.94\00:53:13.63 But the opportunity is past. It was not convenient. 00:53:13.66\00:53:16.78 They were not acquainted with her. 00:53:16.81\00:53:18.07 She was advanced in years and might be a burden. 00:53:18.10\00:53:20.51 Feelings of this kind barred her from 00:53:20.54\00:53:22.50 the homes of the professed friends of Jesus, 00:53:22.53\00:53:25.06 who are looking for His near advent. 00:53:25.09\00:53:27.98 Ah, seeing those early advent hymns, 00:53:28.01\00:53:29.81 ah, tell me Jesus is coming we thrilled with, 00:53:29.84\00:53:33.29 they thrilled to those hymns, 00:53:33.32\00:53:36.18 they were no more ready for Jesus to come 00:53:36.21\00:53:38.30 than the man across the street. 00:53:38.33\00:53:41.50 Bring it on Jesus oh, we love these old hymns. 00:53:41.53\00:53:44.57 Let's have another heritage weekend and celebrate 00:53:44.60\00:53:47.15 Jesus is coming soon. 00:53:47.18\00:53:52.87 "Feelings of this kind barred her from the homes 00:53:52.90\00:53:54.54 of the professed friends of Jesus, 00:53:54.57\00:53:56.28 who are looking for His near advent, 00:53:56.31\00:53:57.93 and drove her away from those she loved, 00:53:57.96\00:54:00.41 to those who opposed her faith, to northern Michigan, 00:54:00.44\00:54:03.05 in the colder winter to be chilled to death. 00:54:03.08\00:54:05.26 She died a martyr to the selfishness and covetousness 00:54:05.29\00:54:08.15 of professed commandment keepers." 00:54:08.18\00:54:11.37 God help us, God help us 00:54:13.86\00:54:19.24 not to repeat the story of Hannah Moore today. 00:54:19.27\00:54:26.37 Somebody that says all I want to do is worship in your chruch. 00:54:28.29\00:54:34.00 I have to cross your campus to get to your church. 00:54:34.03\00:54:38.95 Can't you let me come here to ban, 00:54:38.98\00:54:44.08 to ban such a one from coming to us?
