That's not good enough. 00:02:57.84\00:03:00.28 Undefiled. 00:03:00.31\00:03:01.64 And he said, it does not fade away, 00:03:01.68\00:03:04.58 reserved in heaven. 00:03:04.61\00:03:06.31 You know, it seems as though 00:03:06.35\00:03:07.68 he's just trying to what can I say, 00:03:07.72\00:03:10.12 you know, about this wonderful hope. 00:03:10.15\00:03:11.82 Trying to find the right word. 00:03:11.85\00:03:13.19 Nothing describes it adequately. 00:03:13.22\00:03:15.02 Don't you desire to be there? Yeah. 00:03:15.06\00:03:16.99 That's the whole thing. Yeah. 00:03:17.03\00:03:18.36 And it's reserved in heaven for you and for me. 00:03:18.39\00:03:22.00 For anyone who wants it. 00:03:22.03\00:03:25.87 That's the wonderful thing about salvation. 00:03:25.90\00:03:28.70 Monica, you've chosen Psalm 46:1, 2, and 11. 00:03:28.74\00:03:32.67 And I'm going to read those for you. 00:03:32.71\00:03:35.61 Says, Psalm 46. 00:03:35.64\00:03:39.55 Yeah, Psalm 46:1, 2, and 11. 00:03:39.58\00:03:42.75 "God is our refuge and strength, 00:03:42.78\00:03:45.05 a very present help in trouble. 00:03:45.09\00:03:47.56 Therefore will not we fear, 00:03:47.59\00:03:49.62 though the earth be removed, 00:03:49.66\00:03:50.99 and though the mountains be carried 00:03:51.03\00:03:52.79 into the midst of the sea. 00:03:52.83\00:03:55.13 The Lord of hosts is with us, 00:03:55.16\00:03:57.57 the God of Jacob is our refuge." 00:03:57.60\00:04:01.00 Beautiful words, but why did you choose them? 00:04:01.04\00:04:03.84 Well, I chose that because I guess it's sort 00:04:03.87\00:04:07.31 of part of my family history. 00:04:07.34\00:04:09.58 When I think back to my great great grandfather, 00:04:09.61\00:04:12.51 who came out from Germany because of persecution in 1838, 00:04:12.55\00:04:17.29 he came to South Australia. 00:04:17.32\00:04:19.25 And I thought of that, 00:04:19.29\00:04:20.99 because I've often thought of that. 00:04:21.02\00:04:22.86 And it was one of my own grandfather's favorite texts 00:04:22.89\00:04:25.36 that he used to read for opening Sabbath. 00:04:25.39\00:04:28.33 And it shows that God is present with us. 00:04:28.36\00:04:32.03 He's always there. 00:04:32.07\00:04:33.57 You know, He says, I am. 00:04:33.60\00:04:36.00 And it's present tense. God is not. 00:04:36.04\00:04:38.64 He's in the past, but He's with us right now. 00:04:38.67\00:04:41.51 And that's important to me. 00:04:41.54\00:04:43.71 So this was persecution in Germany? 00:04:43.75\00:04:45.78 Yes, yeah. 00:04:45.81\00:04:47.35 Why were they being persecuted for? 00:04:47.38\00:04:49.05 Because so they didn't want to join the state religion. 00:04:49.08\00:04:53.19 And so they decided to leave and come to South Australia. 00:04:53.22\00:04:57.76 At the same time, lots of them, 00:04:57.79\00:04:59.79 lots of East Germans went to America as well. 00:04:59.83\00:05:02.93 So we've got people by the same family name in America, 00:05:02.96\00:05:06.97 who we've never met, probably will never meet. 00:05:07.00\00:05:09.70 Now, John's got the same with his family too. Yeah. 00:05:09.74\00:05:12.84 They left Europe after the Second World War. 00:05:12.87\00:05:15.84 They are in displaced persons' camps in Germany 00:05:15.88\00:05:20.22 and within the government's accepted and different might, 00:05:20.25\00:05:24.52 some of my aunties went to America. 00:05:24.55\00:05:27.06 My mum and dad came to Australia. 00:05:27.09\00:05:29.82 And I think, you know, when you think of that, 00:05:29.86\00:05:32.73 to make that journey to a place you don't know, 00:05:32.76\00:05:35.80 it's really amazing you know? 00:05:35.83\00:05:38.50 And I just had a suitcase and my oldest brother, 00:05:38.53\00:05:41.34 that was it. 00:05:41.37\00:05:42.77 So and it's... 00:05:42.80\00:05:44.14 Yeah, it's intriguing, because I believe a lot 00:05:44.17\00:05:45.74 of those people actually made 00:05:45.77\00:05:48.34 the foundation for Australia. 00:05:48.38\00:05:49.81 They are the ones that worked hard and gave everything. 00:05:49.84\00:05:54.65 To know that God is a present help, you know, at all times, 00:05:54.68\00:05:58.49 not just time of trouble. 00:05:58.52\00:05:59.85 That's right. Yeah. 00:05:59.89\00:06:01.62 Now, let's start with you, Clive. 00:06:01.66\00:06:05.59 You're going to tell us about 00:06:05.63\00:06:07.10 what happened with your parents. 00:06:07.13\00:06:08.66 And this is a really interesting story. 00:06:08.70\00:06:11.33 We have a photo of your mum and dad's wedding. 00:06:11.37\00:06:14.54 And it's just beautiful. 00:06:14.57\00:06:16.67 Well, the year was 1927. 00:06:16.71\00:06:18.77 And those people do know the roaring 20s. 00:06:18.81\00:06:21.91 Yes. 00:06:21.94\00:06:23.28 Probably be able to tell a little bit about the bridal 00:06:23.31\00:06:26.35 dress there though, the length of the skirt. 00:06:26.38\00:06:29.05 Yes. 00:06:29.08\00:06:30.42 And the veil is probably longer than the skirt. 00:06:30.45\00:06:32.15 Probably, yeah. 00:06:32.19\00:06:33.66 Probably went almost to the floor, 00:06:33.69\00:06:35.02 but the skirt went just down below the knees. 00:06:35.06\00:06:37.89 Yeah, so this is Charles and Yuna Nash. 00:06:37.93\00:06:41.86 She was, you know about her rest. 00:06:41.90\00:06:43.83 And her father was Cornish. 00:06:43.87\00:06:48.17 Oh, like my family. 00:06:48.20\00:06:50.27 And my father, Charles, his father was from London, 00:06:50.31\00:06:55.44 from Wandsworth in London. 00:06:55.48\00:06:57.65 And really, the story goes back 00:06:57.68\00:06:59.75 a generation prior to my parents, 00:06:59.78\00:07:01.78 because in my great, my great, my grandfather, 00:07:01.82\00:07:06.92 Henry Nash. 00:07:06.96\00:07:09.02 It's hard to believe he was born in 1861, 00:07:09.06\00:07:11.06 which is 160 years ago. 00:07:11.09\00:07:14.06 And I never met him, he passed away before I was born. 00:07:14.10\00:07:19.17 But he was Church of England. 00:07:19.20\00:07:22.87 And he was engaged by the Bishop 00:07:22.90\00:07:26.01 of North Queensland, to come and work in North Queensland, 00:07:26.04\00:07:31.75 in Townsville. 00:07:31.78\00:07:33.25 So my grandfather, Henry Nash became verger 00:07:33.28\00:07:37.32 of the cathedral there in Townsville. 00:07:37.35\00:07:40.69 The reason why I mentioned that is because, you know, 00:07:40.72\00:07:43.32 there's a strong loyalty in not only my grandparents, 00:07:43.36\00:07:48.33 but also my, my parents to the Church of England. 00:07:48.36\00:07:51.70 Okay. 00:07:51.73\00:07:53.07 And that can sometimes be a barrier to making 00:07:53.10\00:07:55.47 a change in your, your religious convictions. 00:07:55.50\00:08:00.04 And I understand that because tradition holds 00:08:00.08\00:08:03.45 a big part in people's lives. 00:08:03.48\00:08:05.48 Yes, yeah. 00:08:05.51\00:08:06.85 You know, so that my father picture there. 00:08:06.88\00:08:09.98 There he was a choirboy at the cathedral. 00:08:10.02\00:08:14.62 And his father, the verger of the cathedral. 00:08:14.66\00:08:18.63 So you know, there were strong ties. 00:08:18.66\00:08:22.93 Yeah. 00:08:22.96\00:08:24.30 And then you went on, your mum and dad got married 00:08:24.33\00:08:27.04 as in the photo there and had four children? 00:08:27.07\00:08:30.44 Five children, I'm the youngest of the five, 00:08:30.47\00:08:34.61 so the family's bit stretched out. 00:08:34.64\00:08:36.98 Oh, let's look at the photo, 00:08:37.01\00:08:38.35 and we'll see you as the little one. 00:08:38.38\00:08:40.02 You're the one down the photo. Okay. 00:08:40.05\00:08:41.38 So this is my mum and dad and the four of their children. 00:08:41.42\00:08:44.75 So I think the oldest of the boys was taking 00:08:44.79\00:08:48.82 the photo here behind the camera, 00:08:48.86\00:08:51.83 and I'm that skinny the fellow down to the front there. 00:08:51.86\00:08:55.30 So, Monica, did you think 00:08:55.33\00:08:56.67 you'd ever married that little boy there? 00:08:56.70\00:08:58.43 Well, I don't know. 00:08:58.47\00:08:59.93 I wouldn't have married him 00:08:59.97\00:09:01.30 if I looked at that, first of all. 00:09:01.34\00:09:04.34 Well, at least I don't think so. 00:09:04.37\00:09:06.37 No, he was too young, wasn't he? 00:09:06.41\00:09:07.74 Absolutely. 00:09:07.78\00:09:09.11 That would have been cradle snatching. 00:09:09.14\00:09:10.91 But it's interesting, you know, 00:09:10.95\00:09:12.38 you talk about your Anglican heritage there. 00:09:12.41\00:09:16.05 So you grew up in an environment 00:09:16.08\00:09:18.99 where they taught you about God 00:09:19.02\00:09:21.22 and those principles that you find in the Word of God. 00:09:21.26\00:09:25.06 Well, brother, 00:09:25.09\00:09:26.76 my parents had a girl first of all, 00:09:26.80\00:09:31.23 and then they had a boy. 00:09:31.27\00:09:34.37 So one girl, four boys, all the rest of the boys, 00:09:34.40\00:09:38.31 they were boys. 00:09:38.34\00:09:40.48 But when the second child the boy, 00:09:40.51\00:09:43.11 my oldest brother Alan came along, 00:09:43.14\00:09:47.38 they needed to buy a pram, 00:09:47.42\00:09:50.29 and this is the story that leads up to the conversion 00:09:50.32\00:09:54.09 of my parents to become Seventh-day Adventists. 00:09:54.12\00:09:58.63 They saw a pram advertised 00:09:58.66\00:10:00.60 and this is in Townsville in North Queensland. 00:10:00.63\00:10:03.97 They saw a pram advertised and the man, 00:10:04.00\00:10:08.57 the person advertising it was by the name of Magnusson. 00:10:08.60\00:10:13.71 AE Magnusson. 00:10:13.74\00:10:15.91 He was an Adventist evangelist. 00:10:15.94\00:10:17.88 And my parents were curious that the fact they said, 00:10:20.92\00:10:23.79 don't make any contact with us or pick up the pram, 00:10:23.82\00:10:27.62 we'll pay for it on Friday night 00:10:27.66\00:10:30.06 or on Saturday. 00:10:30.09\00:10:32.49 Because, you know, my parents said, 00:10:32.53\00:10:34.30 well, that's a strange sort of thing, 00:10:34.33\00:10:36.80 you know, why is it that prohibition? 00:10:36.83\00:10:39.80 So, the Magnussons actually gave my parents an invitation. 00:10:39.83\00:10:44.27 While your parents bought the pram I appreciate. 00:10:44.31\00:10:45.91 They did. 00:10:45.94\00:10:47.81 I presumed that the pram belonged to their baby Erik 00:10:47.84\00:10:52.05 Magnusson who would later on become the president 00:10:52.08\00:10:54.85 of Avondale College. 00:10:54.88\00:10:56.79 Is that right? 00:10:56.82\00:11:00.06 Yeah, so we have a copy 00:11:00.09\00:11:01.66 of the invitation that they received to go, 00:11:01.69\00:11:05.29 and this is the annual camp meeting 1934 at the Townsville 00:11:05.33\00:11:10.07 Shole Grounds. 00:11:10.10\00:11:11.43 And that's the front and the back of the card. 00:11:11.47\00:11:13.60 Yes, it had two sides. 00:11:13.64\00:11:15.10 So the invitation on the front, and the name of the speakers 00:11:15.14\00:11:19.31 and all of their topics on the reverse. 00:11:19.34\00:11:23.55 And the dates. Yeah. 00:11:23.58\00:11:27.22 Some of the names will be familiar to some 00:11:27.25\00:11:29.75 of our viewers. 00:11:29.78\00:11:32.29 Pastor Arthrift, Pastor EH Gilead, 00:11:32.32\00:11:36.42 Pastor SV Stratford, Pastor AW Anderson, 00:11:36.46\00:11:40.86 Pastor TR Kent, Pastor RA Bullas. 00:11:40.90\00:11:45.73 I think... South Australia. 00:11:45.77\00:11:47.10 We knew him when we were young, 00:11:47.14\00:11:50.64 A Magnusson, evangelist it says, 00:11:50.67\00:11:53.44 and his topic was our marvelous century. 00:11:53.48\00:11:57.38 This is 1934. 00:11:57.41\00:11:59.61 And then evangelist AG Jacobson. 00:11:59.65\00:12:04.29 So they were invited to go to that mission program. 00:12:04.32\00:12:08.02 And they heard things like 00:12:08.06\00:12:11.26 the end of the seventh day Sabbath, Saturday, 00:12:11.29\00:12:14.10 it's been the Sabbath of the Bible, 00:12:14.13\00:12:16.36 baptism by immersion, 00:12:16.40\00:12:17.87 which was not practiced in Church of England, 00:12:17.90\00:12:20.60 unless you specifically requested it. 00:12:20.64\00:12:24.31 They heard about the second coming of Jesus, 00:12:24.34\00:12:26.91 you know, they heard so many Bible truths 00:12:26.94\00:12:29.08 that they had never heard before. 00:12:29.11\00:12:33.01 So how old, were you born at that time? 00:12:33.05\00:12:35.78 No. You were not. 00:12:35.82\00:12:37.15 This is, they only had children, 00:12:37.19\00:12:39.79 the children one and two at this stage, 00:12:39.82\00:12:42.26 I'm number five. 00:12:42.29\00:12:44.83 So you would have been then familiar with Sabbath 00:12:44.86\00:12:48.56 keeping by the time you're born, 00:12:48.60\00:12:50.57 they've been practicing? 00:12:50.60\00:12:51.93 Yes. 00:12:51.97\00:12:53.30 So they went on and they were baptized? 00:12:53.34\00:12:55.00 They are baptized. 00:12:55.04\00:12:56.37 My mother was, made her decision first. 00:12:56.40\00:12:59.61 My father was just a little bit more hesitant 00:12:59.64\00:13:04.61 about it because of his family traditions in the Church 00:13:04.65\00:13:08.78 of England. 00:13:08.82\00:13:10.15 But once he made his decision, he became a very committed 00:13:10.19\00:13:13.56 Seventh-day Adventist for the rest of his life. 00:13:13.59\00:13:17.49 Just looking back now, as you were growing up, 00:13:17.53\00:13:20.43 you know, you're living in a Seventh-day Adventist. 00:13:20.46\00:13:23.50 Did you ever feel you had a calling? 00:13:23.53\00:13:25.63 You know, you're a pastor. 00:13:25.67\00:13:27.20 Now, did you ever feel that calling 00:13:27.24\00:13:28.74 when you were very young? 00:13:28.77\00:13:30.11 I went to a Youth Congress. 00:13:33.24\00:13:37.71 And I think it was in Brisbane, from memory 00:13:37.75\00:13:40.62 when I was in the high school, from secondary school. 00:13:40.65\00:13:44.22 And there was a speaker there by the name of Pastor Minchin. 00:13:44.25\00:13:48.79 I think it was EL Minchin. 00:13:48.82\00:13:51.56 And he made a call for those 00:13:51.59\00:13:53.76 who wanted to commit their lives to gospel ministry. 00:13:53.80\00:13:57.87 And I felt convicted at that time to go forward 00:13:57.90\00:14:01.27 and make that commitment. 00:14:01.30\00:14:04.31 I always think, you know, 00:14:04.34\00:14:06.01 when we've talked to other people who have, 00:14:06.04\00:14:08.64 you know, went into ministry, they always felt that there was 00:14:08.68\00:14:12.05 some PowerPoint in their life, they had a calling, 00:14:12.08\00:14:16.15 like you've described, and then in later life, 00:14:16.18\00:14:18.99 it became a reality. 00:14:19.02\00:14:20.82 So you know, I think God speaks to us, 00:14:20.86\00:14:22.62 no matter how old we are. 00:14:22.66\00:14:23.99 And if God is speaking to you, 00:14:24.03\00:14:25.73 listen, because He wants each one 00:14:25.76\00:14:27.70 of us to do the work that He wants us to do 00:14:27.73\00:14:32.07 in a way that maybe we don't think of at the time, 00:14:32.10\00:14:34.40 but He is really interested in having you do the work 00:14:34.44\00:14:38.77 of telling other people about Jesus. 00:14:38.81\00:14:40.84 So it was good that you ended up being a pastor. 00:14:40.88\00:14:44.38 I just want to go back to with your mum 00:14:44.41\00:14:47.08 and dad's conversion briefly, because we have a photo 00:14:47.12\00:14:51.99 of Pastor Magnusson and a number 00:14:52.02\00:14:56.39 of the other people with him and one of them, 00:14:56.42\00:14:59.76 which one is Pastor Kent? 00:14:59.79\00:15:02.40 Pastor Kent is in the seated in, squatted in the... 00:15:02.43\00:15:06.37 Squatting in the front row there alongside 00:15:06.40\00:15:09.30 the dark skinned man 00:15:09.34\00:15:12.51 and Brother Magnusson, he wasn't ordained 00:15:12.54\00:15:15.64 I think at the time, 00:15:15.68\00:15:17.88 is in the middle row on the left hand side, 00:15:17.91\00:15:20.98 the far left and his wife is standing behind him. 00:15:21.02\00:15:25.75 So where did they come from? 00:15:25.79\00:15:28.32 I don't know who said, I don't know the history. 00:15:28.36\00:15:30.53 It sounds like a Scandinavian name, doesn't it Magnusson? 00:15:30.56\00:15:33.50 Yes, yes. Something like that. 00:15:33.53\00:15:34.86 Yes. 00:15:34.90\00:15:36.23 So you grew up in Queensland then? 00:15:36.26\00:15:40.77 Yes. Yes. Okay. 00:15:40.80\00:15:42.54 I'm born in Rockhampton, 00:15:42.57\00:15:43.91 but mostly grew up in Townsville. 00:15:43.94\00:15:45.41 My parents moved from Rockhampton to Townsville 00:15:45.44\00:15:47.91 when I was only two, so I don't remember 00:15:47.94\00:15:49.81 much about Rockhampton. 00:15:49.84\00:15:51.48 And then somehow God took you to South Australia. 00:15:51.51\00:15:56.38 But we'll come to that a bit later, because we want to hear 00:15:56.42\00:15:59.92 Monica's family story because that is very 00:15:59.95\00:16:03.19 interesting also. 00:16:03.22\00:16:04.89 Yes, it is. Go ahead. 00:16:04.93\00:16:08.73 Right, well, we better go back at quite a few years, 00:16:08.76\00:16:11.90 because if it hadn't been for these people 00:16:11.93\00:16:15.50 coming out from Germany, I wouldn't be here today. 00:16:15.54\00:16:19.11 But it was quite interesting because grandfather 00:16:19.14\00:16:24.05 Jaensch or great, great grandfather Jaensch. 00:16:24.08\00:16:27.02 He was the one that came out 00:16:27.05\00:16:28.78 directly because of religious persecution. 00:16:28.82\00:16:31.29 And he arrived in South Australia in 1838, 00:16:31.32\00:16:35.46 November, 1838. 00:16:35.49\00:16:37.36 He was on the first ship 00:16:37.39\00:16:40.46 of German refugees that came out because 00:16:40.50\00:16:44.87 of religious persecution. 00:16:44.90\00:16:47.34 And anyway, 00:16:47.37\00:16:50.01 it's so quite an amazing story because he lived a long life. 00:16:50.04\00:16:54.64 He was 96 or 97 when he passed away. 00:16:54.68\00:16:58.81 And he was a very intelligent man. 00:16:58.85\00:17:01.38 In fact, in the Lutheran archives in South Australia, 00:17:01.42\00:17:06.05 there's a record he kept a very, very detailed record 00:17:06.09\00:17:10.16 of his time, his early years in Germany 00:17:10.19\00:17:14.20 and then the trip out to Australia on the ship. 00:17:14.23\00:17:18.70 And also his time in South Australia right up 00:17:18.73\00:17:23.87 until he died. 00:17:23.91\00:17:25.24 They said that he had... 00:17:25.27\00:17:26.88 He never wore glasses, he had 100% eyesight, 00:17:26.91\00:17:30.05 even at the real old age. 00:17:30.08\00:17:31.41 Like Moses. Yeah. 00:17:31.45\00:17:33.52 And anyway, it was his granddaughter, 00:17:33.55\00:17:37.32 my grandmother and Tony, who married Erhardt Roennfeldt. 00:17:37.35\00:17:42.19 And Erhardt's parents 00:17:42.22\00:17:46.09 came out from Rostock, in northern Germany, 00:17:46.13\00:17:51.17 actually a little village called Cropland, 00:17:51.20\00:17:53.20 but it was very close to Rostock. 00:17:53.23\00:17:56.00 And they came out not so much because religious persecution, 00:17:56.04\00:18:01.61 but because Christian Heinrich 00:18:01.64\00:18:06.61 had served in the army 00:18:06.65\00:18:10.45 and had ruined his feet in the army because of... 00:18:10.49\00:18:13.56 Christian Heinrich Roennfeldt. 00:18:13.59\00:18:14.92 Yes, because of ill-fitting boots. 00:18:14.96\00:18:17.96 And he had no intention 00:18:17.99\00:18:19.53 of letting his sons serve in the army. 00:18:19.56\00:18:22.30 So he had a cousin 00:18:22.33\00:18:24.80 who had come to South Australia. 00:18:24.83\00:18:28.50 And he'd heard that it was good land and so forth. 00:18:28.54\00:18:31.24 So come on over sort of thing. 00:18:31.27\00:18:33.11 So he came out in the early 1849 00:18:33.14\00:18:37.65 and settled in the Barossa Valley. 00:18:37.68\00:18:41.38 And, yeah, and the story sort of goes on from there. 00:18:41.42\00:18:44.89 Both of the... 00:18:44.92\00:18:46.25 One of these families were very, 00:18:46.29\00:18:47.62 very strong Lutherans. 00:18:47.66\00:18:49.19 And, yeah, 00:18:49.22\00:18:51.53 it was quite interesting because there's a real 00:18:51.56\00:18:54.56 tradition of Lutheranism in the Barossa Valley, 00:18:54.60\00:18:57.90 in that small area, which I'll talk in miles about 00:18:57.93\00:19:02.50 15 miles long by about 10 miles wide, 00:19:02.54\00:19:07.08 there's no less than 40 churches. 00:19:07.11\00:19:10.15 Not all Lutheran, different, you know, there's Church 00:19:10.18\00:19:12.81 of England, one Adventist Church, 00:19:12.85\00:19:15.82 and Catholic and Uniting Church and so forth, 00:19:15.85\00:19:19.25 but Lutheran predominantly. 00:19:19.29\00:19:22.02 So anyway, if we go down through time 00:19:22.06\00:19:26.09 and come to 1896, 00:19:26.13\00:19:31.87 my grandparents Erhardt Franz 00:19:31.90\00:19:35.77 Wilhelm Roennfeldt married 00:19:35.80\00:19:39.44 Antonie Florentine Jaensch. 00:19:39.47\00:19:42.28 And we have a photo. Yes, you do. 00:19:42.31\00:19:44.48 There is the photo, the typical pose as we, 00:19:44.51\00:19:47.98 we know the husband sitting and the wife standing 00:19:48.02\00:19:51.75 which is different with your parents. 00:19:51.79\00:19:53.12 And the black wedding dress, 00:19:53.15\00:19:55.12 which was traditional for German brides. 00:19:55.16\00:19:58.13 Now, that's an interesting thing. 00:19:58.16\00:19:59.49 Tell us about that? 00:19:59.53\00:20:00.86 Yes, well, I think because they're all 00:20:00.90\00:20:02.80 fairly conservative toward sort of people 00:20:02.83\00:20:06.53 and the background that they came from 00:20:06.57\00:20:08.60 that it was expected that the brides would wear black. 00:20:08.64\00:20:13.01 And there was a story that was told that one 00:20:13.04\00:20:17.15 of the brides, 00:20:17.18\00:20:18.51 as it was coming, you know, into the 20th century, 00:20:18.55\00:20:21.92 she decided that she would go against tradition 00:20:21.95\00:20:24.69 and wear white. 00:20:24.72\00:20:26.76 She never told her parents, 00:20:26.79\00:20:28.19 but on the actual day of the wedding... 00:20:28.22\00:20:30.43 She came with white. 00:20:30.46\00:20:31.79 She came with white, but father 00:20:31.83\00:20:33.16 didn't escort her to the church. 00:20:33.19\00:20:36.03 So you know, she was... 00:20:36.06\00:20:37.67 She was in the bad books, in the black books. 00:20:37.70\00:20:40.90 She certainly wasn't in the black books. 00:20:40.94\00:20:42.80 Yeah. 00:20:42.84\00:20:44.17 But anyway, grandfather 00:20:44.21\00:20:45.94 and grandmother were married in 1896. 00:20:45.97\00:20:50.38 And they had six children. 00:20:50.41\00:20:53.98 My mother was the youngest. 00:20:54.02\00:20:56.48 And it was in 1914 that... 00:20:56.52\00:21:01.86 I was just gonna say your mum's a little one at the front. 00:21:01.89\00:21:04.09 Yes, the little one, yes. 00:21:04.13\00:21:06.13 Now this photo was taken probably, 00:21:06.16\00:21:10.17 I would say at least. 00:21:10.20\00:21:12.47 She was born in 1912, 00:21:12.50\00:21:16.50 two years before they became Adventists. 00:21:16.54\00:21:19.04 So this, she will probably be about six or seven there. 00:21:19.07\00:21:22.44 So that was a bit later that photo. 00:21:22.48\00:21:25.55 But, yeah, she, they became Adventist, 00:21:25.58\00:21:28.08 Pastor Daniel Wall came out from America 00:21:28.12\00:21:31.25 specifically to convert 00:21:31.29\00:21:34.26 the German people in the Barossa Valley. 00:21:34.29\00:21:37.03 As you heard that they'd be, there were German speaking 00:21:37.06\00:21:39.33 groups in South Australia, as he said to his wife, 00:21:39.36\00:21:42.30 now we must go there and share the Advent message. 00:21:42.33\00:21:45.17 He could speak German. 00:21:45.20\00:21:47.44 Well, his name would have really been pronounced Wall, 00:21:47.47\00:21:50.31 W-A-L-L. 00:21:50.34\00:21:52.27 But we in Australia, we call him Wall. 00:21:52.31\00:21:54.88 Yeah. 00:21:54.91\00:21:56.75 Is and then there was another person associated with him 00:21:56.78\00:21:59.98 helping him and that was Pastor George Backhaus. 00:22:00.02\00:22:03.65 Now Backhaus name was familiar around 00:22:03.69\00:22:07.19 the Cooranbong area, too. 00:22:07.22\00:22:10.39 And, yeah, there's interesting stories, 00:22:10.43\00:22:13.40 because when they first decided to become Adventist, 00:22:13.43\00:22:17.60 my grandfather and grandmother virtually cut off 00:22:17.63\00:22:20.64 from their relatives, and they had large families. 00:22:20.67\00:22:22.94 My grandfather had 10 brothers and sisters. 00:22:22.97\00:22:26.94 And my grandmother was one of 14. 00:22:26.98\00:22:30.95 And you can imagine what it was like, 00:22:30.98\00:22:33.01 because how dare you move away from the faith? 00:22:33.05\00:22:37.75 How did they start going to the Adventist meetings? 00:22:37.79\00:22:41.49 Well, it was because, strangely enough grandfather, 00:22:41.52\00:22:45.76 one of his sisters, 00:22:45.79\00:22:47.13 and one of his brothers went to a mission that Pastor Wall 00:22:47.16\00:22:52.30 was conducting in a little town called Freeling, 00:22:52.33\00:22:55.60 which was further on the western side 00:22:55.64\00:22:58.31 of the Barossa Valley. 00:22:58.34\00:23:00.38 And they said," Erhardt, you must go 00:23:00.41\00:23:03.31 and hear this preacher. 00:23:03.35\00:23:05.18 He's wonderful. He is speaking truth." 00:23:05.21\00:23:09.05 Well, grandfather and grandmother went along, 00:23:09.08\00:23:10.95 and they were converted. 00:23:10.99\00:23:12.55 But this brother and sister never accepted 00:23:12.59\00:23:15.92 the Adventist truth. 00:23:15.96\00:23:17.69 Now that may be because they didn't like 00:23:17.73\00:23:21.53 the persecution even could have been. 00:23:21.56\00:23:24.80 Whereas your grandfather was a little bit 00:23:24.83\00:23:26.97 more strong in wanting to follow God. 00:23:27.00\00:23:29.20 We've got a picture of the little institute 00:23:29.24\00:23:31.57 building where the meetings were being held, 00:23:31.61\00:23:35.18 that your grandfather went to, 00:23:35.21\00:23:37.01 that his brother and sister went to. 00:23:37.05\00:23:39.31 Nice little building. And we have a photo also of... 00:23:39.35\00:23:42.42 That's in Greenock. Of the Pastor Daniel Wall. 00:23:42.45\00:23:46.05 Yeah, Pastor Daniel Wall and his wife and two children. 00:23:46.09\00:23:47.96 And there's an interesting story about 00:23:47.99\00:23:51.33 when they came to South Australia, 00:23:51.36\00:23:55.70 and they were conducting mission 00:23:55.73\00:23:57.67 also after they'd been in Greenock, 00:23:57.70\00:24:00.14 they decided to conduct one in the main town of Barossa, 00:24:00.17\00:24:03.71 Nuriootpa and they left the, 00:24:03.74\00:24:07.01 one of the youngest boy, 00:24:07.04\00:24:09.21 little Wall baby in the care of Dora Buchholz. 00:24:09.24\00:24:14.72 And Dora is just reminding myself 00:24:14.75\00:24:19.42 of this story a couple of days ago, 00:24:19.45\00:24:22.16 and Dora was looking after this baby 00:24:22.19\00:24:24.46 and she actually felt moved to shift the crib. 00:24:24.49\00:24:30.07 And I think it was 00:24:30.10\00:24:31.77 the Holy Spirit spoke to her to do this because she'd only 00:24:31.80\00:24:36.37 just shifted the crib and a brick came flying through 00:24:36.40\00:24:39.21 the window. 00:24:39.24\00:24:40.68 And if the crib had been in the place 00:24:40.71\00:24:44.51 where it originally was, 00:24:44.55\00:24:45.88 the baby would have been killed. 00:24:45.91\00:24:48.32 They, these people suffered real persecution. 00:24:48.35\00:24:50.89 So that brick was thrown through 00:24:50.92\00:24:52.32 the window because of persecution. 00:24:52.35\00:24:54.29 Yeah, yes. 00:24:54.32\00:24:55.66 Similarly, I think your family, your ancestors too 00:24:55.69\00:25:00.46 when they're coming home from the mission... 00:25:00.50\00:25:02.50 Oh, yes. 00:25:02.53\00:25:03.87 They got flour bombed or something 00:25:03.90\00:25:05.23 or rather rotten eggs. 00:25:05.27\00:25:06.60 Yeah. Oh, yes. 00:25:06.63\00:25:08.20 Yes. 00:25:08.24\00:25:09.57 When they came home from that little institute. 00:25:09.60\00:25:10.94 Yeah, to become an Adventistan, you know, 00:25:10.97\00:25:14.91 and forsake the Lutheran faith, yeah, it was faith. 00:25:14.94\00:25:17.98 Tell us about one of your mother's brothers? 00:25:18.01\00:25:22.78 Her eldest brother, Irwin EE Roennfeldt, 00:25:22.82\00:25:28.69 he was considered as a young, young boy, 00:25:28.72\00:25:33.33 even an early teenager, to be very promising student 00:25:33.36\00:25:37.30 and the Lutheran pastors in the Barossa 00:25:37.33\00:25:39.57 wanted to send him to the Lutheran, 00:25:39.60\00:25:42.40 one of the Lutheran seminaries in Germany, 00:25:42.44\00:25:45.67 because he was a very clever young man, 00:25:45.71\00:25:48.08 and he would be good for the church. 00:25:48.11\00:25:51.21 And anyway, when grandfather 00:25:51.25\00:25:54.12 decided that they would become Adventists, 00:25:54.15\00:25:57.95 there was a concerted effort by, I think, 00:25:57.99\00:26:00.92 particularly three Lutheran ministers to save grandfather 00:26:00.96\00:26:06.16 and grandmother. 00:26:06.19\00:26:07.76 And so they came around to visit one evening. 00:26:07.80\00:26:13.13 And grandfather said, 00:26:13.17\00:26:16.04 "No, we're going to keep the Sabbath, 00:26:16.07\00:26:18.24 we're going to become Seventh-day Adventist." 00:26:18.27\00:26:21.51 And he said, "I'll show you from the Bible 00:26:21.54\00:26:23.91 about the Sabbath." 00:26:23.95\00:26:25.28 And he went up the passage, and this was in the old house 00:26:25.31\00:26:29.05 where Clive and I lived before we came to New South Wales. 00:26:29.08\00:26:32.82 And grandfather, apparently, as he was going up the passage, 00:26:32.85\00:26:35.99 he heard this minister say, "It's not good talking to him, 00:26:36.02\00:26:38.23 if he's going to bring it from the Bible." 00:26:38.26\00:26:40.76 You know, it's not good reasoning with him. 00:26:40.80\00:26:43.43 And my grandfather came back and said, 00:26:43.47\00:26:45.80 "We're definitely keeping the Sabbath, 00:26:45.83\00:26:47.54 we're going to change." 00:26:47.57\00:26:50.11 And that really blew up because apparently 00:26:50.14\00:26:55.81 Uncle Irwin immediately 00:26:55.84\00:26:58.01 became a dummkopf, 00:26:58.05\00:27:03.92 quite stupid, you know, 00:27:03.95\00:27:05.45 how could that be and infect Roennfeldt, 00:27:05.49\00:27:08.86 you should smack him up the side of the head, 00:27:08.89\00:27:11.86 boxer as he is, you know... 00:27:11.89\00:27:14.53 Going from being one of the brightest shining lights 00:27:14.56\00:27:18.73 of the young people, he all of a sudden is stupid. 00:27:18.77\00:27:22.10 Yes, a dummkopf. 00:27:22.14\00:27:24.01 And anyway, as they were leaving 00:27:24.04\00:27:27.01 the homestead that night, 00:27:27.04\00:27:29.91 apparently, they said to grandfather, 00:27:29.94\00:27:31.98 "And may the curse of God rest on you 00:27:32.01\00:27:34.32 and your family forever." 00:27:34.35\00:27:37.12 And that would have been very hard to take, 00:27:37.15\00:27:39.12 because that sort of thing, 00:27:39.15\00:27:40.49 you know, if that was said by your German... 00:27:40.52\00:27:42.82 It's quite serious. It was quite serious. 00:27:42.86\00:27:45.49 Yeah. Yes. 00:27:45.53\00:27:46.86 And then grandfather himself. 00:27:46.90\00:27:48.56 He was an elder, a seal holder 00:27:48.60\00:27:51.57 and a lay reader in St. Petrie Lutheran Church in Nuriootpa. 00:27:51.60\00:27:57.34 And when he got up 00:27:57.37\00:27:59.34 and announced in the church after a live reading session, 00:27:59.37\00:28:04.08 and he said, 00:28:04.11\00:28:05.45 "I will no longer be attending this church 00:28:05.48\00:28:08.08 because I'm going to be an Adventist, 00:28:08.12\00:28:09.98 and I'm going to keep the Sabbath." 00:28:10.02\00:28:12.19 Well, the women rushed out of the church 00:28:12.22\00:28:14.06 and lined up on the pathway outside of the church 00:28:14.09\00:28:17.19 and as grandfather came out of the church, 00:28:17.23\00:28:19.56 all these women spat on him. 00:28:19.59\00:28:23.16 And there was much persecution. 00:28:23.20\00:28:26.03 Like I said, it's probably why sister and brother didn't 00:28:26.07\00:28:28.84 go forward in changing? 00:28:28.87\00:28:30.21 Yeah. 00:28:30.24\00:28:31.57 Rather than the curse of God, I think the blessing of God, 00:28:31.61\00:28:33.88 blessing our family. 00:28:33.91\00:28:35.28 Irwin ended up in the General Conference. 00:28:35.31\00:28:37.05 That's right. 00:28:37.08\00:28:38.41 And his last official position was he was president 00:28:38.45\00:28:41.88 of the Northern European or Trans-European division. 00:28:41.92\00:28:46.69 And one or the other... 00:28:46.72\00:28:48.16 The dummkopf. 00:28:48.19\00:28:49.52 One of the other children, Clarence Roennfeldt 00:28:49.56\00:28:52.56 will be known to a number of our viewers, 00:28:52.59\00:28:56.33 West Australian, but before that he was 00:28:56.36\00:28:58.50 a missionary to Burma. 00:28:58.53\00:29:00.40 And the oldest. 00:29:00.44\00:29:03.10 Three of his children, I think, you know, 00:29:03.14\00:29:05.71 probably pretty well known to, Lynette, 00:29:05.74\00:29:08.74 this missionary nurse to Papua New Guinea. 00:29:08.78\00:29:12.38 Ray also. 00:29:12.41\00:29:14.12 He's just best president of the Avondale College. 00:29:14.15\00:29:18.02 Yes, and Peter Roennfeldt too, another minister. 00:29:18.05\00:29:22.16 So, yeah, I don't think the curse 00:29:22.19\00:29:24.89 of God rested on the family at all. 00:29:24.93\00:29:27.16 I think it reveals the character of the person. 00:29:27.20\00:29:31.27 And if you stand for truth, in principle, 00:29:31.30\00:29:33.60 God will use you no matter what men say or do, God knows. 00:29:33.64\00:29:39.27 And out of that little Barossa Church, 00:29:39.31\00:29:41.34 you know, in South Australia. 00:29:41.38\00:29:44.38 There were other names like Kranz, 00:29:44.41\00:29:47.58 Alfred Kranz was became an Adventist there. 00:29:47.62\00:29:51.32 Maywald, Russel is another name, 00:29:51.35\00:29:56.62 Standish, Mrs. Antoinette, Standish. 00:29:56.66\00:30:00.06 You know, there are quite a number of, 00:30:00.10\00:30:02.03 of families today which would trace their roots back him. 00:30:02.06\00:30:07.67 One of the members of the church that we 00:30:07.70\00:30:09.34 go to Dr. Don Roy, his... 00:30:09.37\00:30:12.81 I think his grandfather was the Buchholz that was, 00:30:12.84\00:30:16.64 Monica mentioned, the literature evangelist. 00:30:16.68\00:30:20.88 And before that the pathway was paved by literature 00:30:20.92\00:30:23.75 evangelists by the name of LDA Lemke. 00:30:23.79\00:30:27.12 All right. Very interesting. 00:30:27.16\00:30:29.72 Very good. Yeah. 00:30:29.76\00:30:31.13 So out of a little place like that. 00:30:31.16\00:30:33.60 God took people who are faithful 00:30:33.63\00:30:35.03 and used them all around the world, literally. 00:30:35.06\00:30:38.03 Excellent. Very good. 00:30:38.07\00:30:40.04 Now, Clive, Monica, let us get on with the story 00:30:40.07\00:30:45.61 of how you being in Queensland, 00:30:45.64\00:30:48.21 and you being in South Australia. 00:30:48.24\00:30:50.38 How did God bring you together? 00:30:50.41\00:30:52.98 Well, I was... 00:30:53.01\00:30:55.72 After I finished my theology training 00:30:55.75\00:30:58.09 at Avondale College in 1969, 00:30:58.12\00:31:01.62 I was called to go and do literature 00:31:01.66\00:31:04.49 evangelism work in South Australia. 00:31:04.53\00:31:07.36 And to be the senior evangelist for Pastor Lindsay Lowers 00:31:07.40\00:31:13.27 for a mission program in Adelaide. 00:31:13.30\00:31:17.04 So I did that for to 1970. 00:31:17.07\00:31:22.71 We were, we met and we got married at the end of 1970. 00:31:22.74\00:31:28.15 That wasn't very long. 00:31:28.18\00:31:30.15 No, actually. 00:31:30.19\00:31:31.52 Oh, well, I was a singer and Monica was a pianist 00:31:31.55\00:31:34.16 and organist, and it was music brought us together. 00:31:34.19\00:31:37.23 Yeah. 00:31:37.26\00:31:38.83 And that was at Gola Church actually because... 00:31:38.86\00:31:41.80 Yes, I was preaching, 00:31:41.83\00:31:43.16 and I saw this lovely organist there. 00:31:43.20\00:31:44.67 And the funny part about it, we used to have a spate 00:31:44.70\00:31:47.97 of Avondale theology students sort of come around and preach. 00:31:48.00\00:31:53.04 And that day, I was playing the organ I thought, "Oh no, 00:31:53.07\00:31:56.48 not another one from Avondale." 00:31:56.51\00:31:59.15 And I snuck out the back door of the church. 00:31:59.18\00:32:02.82 And I never even met him. 00:32:02.85\00:32:04.19 Didn't even shake hands. 00:32:04.22\00:32:05.55 Didn't even shake hands with him 00:32:05.59\00:32:06.92 because I was so peeved off 00:32:06.96\00:32:08.52 with all this Avondale business all the time in anyway. 00:32:08.56\00:32:12.19 But I did my homework, Brother John. 00:32:12.23\00:32:14.53 You did actually get to see her. 00:32:14.56\00:32:15.93 I said, "Who is that lady? 00:32:15.96\00:32:18.87 Where does she live?" 00:32:18.90\00:32:20.90 So I called her to the farmhouse to see her. 00:32:20.94\00:32:24.41 The next Saturday night, he turns up at our farm, 00:32:24.44\00:32:29.28 the old Roennfeldt farm. 00:32:29.31\00:32:31.01 And Monica says, oh, no, that Avondale guy. 00:32:31.05\00:32:34.45 Something like that. 00:32:34.48\00:32:35.82 But the interesting part was, it was a blazing hot summer, 00:32:35.85\00:32:41.06 in early in February, 00:32:41.09\00:32:43.39 and we were all sitting outside because it's just 00:32:43.43\00:32:46.66 too hot to be inside. 00:32:46.70\00:32:48.73 And at the same time, you wouldn't believe it, 00:32:48.76\00:32:51.03 there was a mouse plague happening, 00:32:51.07\00:32:53.17 and we had all these haystacks and that around the farm. 00:32:53.20\00:32:56.64 And anyway, I've never seen it before, 00:32:56.67\00:32:59.51 and I've never seen it since. 00:32:59.54\00:33:00.88 But we had 14 cats on the farm. 00:33:00.91\00:33:03.91 And they all decided to catch mice 00:33:03.95\00:33:08.78 and bring them down towards the house, 00:33:08.82\00:33:10.99 and we're sitting out in this area, 00:33:11.02\00:33:13.25 and all of a sudden these cats arrive with all of these mice 00:33:13.29\00:33:15.72 and they let the mice go. 00:33:15.76\00:33:18.29 And so we're sort of sitting there with 00:33:18.33\00:33:19.89 our knees in the air. 00:33:19.93\00:33:21.86 And Clive's looking a bit like this, 00:33:21.90\00:33:25.57 you know, he was basically a city boy. 00:33:25.60\00:33:28.10 And anyway, my father said, when Clive had gone, 00:33:28.14\00:33:32.74 my father said, Well, I if he's worth his salt, 00:33:32.77\00:33:37.05 he will stick around even despite such an experience, 00:33:37.08\00:33:41.58 and he did. 00:33:41.62\00:33:44.85 There was some attraction there. 00:33:44.89\00:33:46.29 That's the only reason that you could give for that. 00:33:46.32\00:33:49.16 Yeah. 00:33:49.19\00:33:50.53 I'd say you're probably lucky you had all those cats doing 00:33:50.56\00:33:52.06 mice hunting. 00:33:52.09\00:33:53.43 Is he a man of few words, Monica, or did he, 00:33:53.46\00:33:56.20 you know, being a young man and out there on his own? 00:33:56.23\00:34:00.40 How was he, was he quiet, reserved? 00:34:00.44\00:34:03.37 Oh, I wouldn't say was actually quiet. 00:34:03.41\00:34:06.61 He was rather persuasive, put it that way. 00:34:06.64\00:34:09.94 Yeah. 00:34:09.98\00:34:11.31 So we were married at the end of that year just two days 00:34:11.35\00:34:13.75 before Christmas in the Trinity Gardens Seventh-day 00:34:13.78\00:34:17.49 Adventist Church. 00:34:17.52\00:34:18.85 And see, you've got the same hairstyle and the same sort of, 00:34:18.89\00:34:21.29 you've got the beard. 00:34:21.32\00:34:22.66 And I notice you're in white. 00:34:22.69\00:34:24.23 Yes, yes, I didn't revert to the black tradition. 00:34:24.26\00:34:28.83 But it's funny, I've never known Clive without a beard. 00:34:28.86\00:34:33.50 Is that right? 00:34:33.54\00:34:34.87 And I often said in a joking way 00:34:34.90\00:34:36.97 that if I woke up one morning, 00:34:37.01\00:34:38.34 he shaved off a beard, of his beard. 00:34:38.37\00:34:40.54 I'd think I was in bed with the wrong person. 00:34:40.58\00:34:44.41 That's what I was like when I married John. 00:34:44.45\00:34:46.15 He shaved his beard off. 00:34:46.18\00:34:48.08 Who is this man? 00:34:48.12\00:34:50.95 Was a little bit shocking. Yes. 00:34:50.99\00:34:53.22 Well, wasn't any opening for me in full time ministry 00:34:53.25\00:34:57.49 in South Australia at the time, 00:34:57.53\00:34:59.06 so I took other employment to get our home together 00:34:59.09\00:35:04.83 and our finances. 00:35:04.87\00:35:06.70 What did you do, Clive? 00:35:06.74\00:35:08.10 Well, for three or four years 00:35:08.14\00:35:09.64 I worked with the Commonwealth Government 00:35:09.67\00:35:12.01 with Department of Civil Aviation. 00:35:12.04\00:35:14.74 And then... What did you do with... 00:35:14.78\00:35:17.35 What were you doing there? Did clerical work. 00:35:17.38\00:35:19.15 Most of the time after that, I was working 00:35:19.18\00:35:23.35 as a school bursar for the Education 00:35:23.39\00:35:25.69 Department in South Australia. 00:35:25.72\00:35:27.66 And that enabled us to go back to the Barossa 00:35:27.69\00:35:30.19 and live on the family farm. 00:35:30.23\00:35:33.16 Did you do more singing for evangelistic? 00:35:33.19\00:35:35.43 Yeah, I want to ask a little bit about your singing. 00:35:35.46\00:35:37.57 Where did you begin to sing? 00:35:37.60\00:35:40.27 Well, I trained at Avondale College. 00:35:40.30\00:35:42.20 Well before that my parents gave me 00:35:42.24\00:35:45.21 singing lessons in Townsville. 00:35:45.24\00:35:47.71 And then I trained with a lady by the name of Jean Kilroy 00:35:47.74\00:35:51.75 at Avondale College, and she put me up to my MSA 00:35:51.78\00:35:56.58 standard invoice examined by the Sydney Conservatorium 00:35:56.62\00:36:00.19 of Music. 00:36:00.22\00:36:01.92 When I first went to South Australia, 00:36:01.96\00:36:04.03 I performed professionally on channel 10 television. 00:36:04.06\00:36:08.83 So it was nice to get paid to sing and being an amateur. 00:36:08.86\00:36:12.83 And, but for most of my working life, 00:36:12.87\00:36:16.07 I was working as a bursar. 00:36:16.10\00:36:17.91 So what were you seeing on channel 10? 00:36:17.94\00:36:20.74 You know, music, music from the shows, 00:36:20.78\00:36:23.14 you know, likes of Fiddler on the Roof 00:36:23.18\00:36:25.01 and Camelot and things like that were popular at that time. 00:36:25.05\00:36:29.15 And did Monica play for you? 00:36:29.18\00:36:30.95 No, no, they had a studio band that played for those. 00:36:30.99\00:36:35.19 Because I know you both sing. 00:36:35.22\00:36:38.06 And really, they do sing very well. 00:36:38.09\00:36:42.63 Duets. Duets, yeah. 00:36:42.66\00:36:44.53 As well. That's really good. 00:36:44.57\00:36:47.14 And as a pastor, that's a bonus really, 00:36:47.17\00:36:51.64 to be able to sing and to present and talk. 00:36:51.67\00:36:55.98 It just makes it so much nicer. 00:36:56.01\00:37:00.28 And in the Barossa, you know, Monica became very involved 00:37:00.32\00:37:03.39 with music, not only in church in our church, 00:37:03.42\00:37:07.16 but also in the community. 00:37:07.19\00:37:10.29 I was an organist for my singing teacher 00:37:10.33\00:37:15.00 was a Lutheran minister's wife, 00:37:15.03\00:37:17.57 and we became extremely good friends. 00:37:17.60\00:37:21.94 And one year she said to me, I want to present Bach Cantata, 00:37:21.97\00:37:27.68 the Lord is a sun and shield. 00:37:27.71\00:37:30.05 And she said, in all the history 00:37:30.08\00:37:31.68 of the Barossa Valley had had never been performed before. 00:37:31.71\00:37:34.85 So we got together a choir. 00:37:34.88\00:37:37.39 And we performed it in two churches, 00:37:37.42\00:37:40.39 one at the little town of Bethany, 00:37:40.42\00:37:43.26 and the other in St. Petrie Lutheran Church in Nuriootpa. 00:37:43.29\00:37:48.70 That's a big church and holds about a thousand people. 00:37:48.73\00:37:52.30 And, yeah, there was lots of opportunity for involvement, 00:37:52.33\00:37:57.24 I conducted a couple of choirs, a children's choir at Angaston 00:37:57.27\00:38:00.84 Primary School and also, I took over conducting 00:38:00.88\00:38:06.01 a community choir as well. 00:38:06.05\00:38:08.72 And that was made up of members from different churches... 00:38:08.75\00:38:13.19 Different denominations. Different denominations. 00:38:13.22\00:38:15.56 And Clive used to sing in that choir too. 00:38:15.59\00:38:18.03 So I felt quite good about bossing him 00:38:18.06\00:38:19.93 around in the choir. 00:38:19.96\00:38:22.16 So one chance, Clive. 00:38:22.20\00:38:23.53 Yes, I was under direction. 00:38:23.57\00:38:25.87 So what did you studied at school? 00:38:25.90\00:38:29.44 At school? Yeah, did you? 00:38:29.47\00:38:30.87 What qualifications did you have? 00:38:30.91\00:38:32.81 Well, I've really got no qualifications. 00:38:32.84\00:38:35.08 Oh, you're like me. Yes. 00:38:35.11\00:38:38.01 You just got to work what God gives you to do. 00:38:38.05\00:38:40.15 Yeah, secondary schooling. 00:38:40.18\00:38:41.65 Yeah, and I did some part actually 00:38:41.68\00:38:43.25 what they call post grad work. 00:38:43.28\00:38:45.55 Like for minister's wives, 00:38:45.59\00:38:47.46 we did a course that came out from America. 00:38:47.49\00:38:50.29 And I did through that with preaching 00:38:50.33\00:38:53.19 and all sorts of things that were involved with that. 00:38:53.23\00:38:55.63 So I had a light education. 00:38:55.66\00:38:58.03 So you had the talent for music, and God used it. 00:38:58.07\00:39:02.04 And He was, you know, blessing you 00:39:02.07\00:39:04.94 with being able to use that in other ways. 00:39:04.97\00:39:08.41 Yeah. That's really good. 00:39:08.44\00:39:09.78 It's good to see your background from your families, 00:39:09.81\00:39:12.51 you know, you're the heritage behind you. 00:39:12.55\00:39:15.38 But, you know, in your life, 00:39:15.42\00:39:17.55 I'm sure you have had experiences that will, 00:39:17.59\00:39:21.02 you know, we'd all like to hear about stories that you've 00:39:21.06\00:39:23.43 experienced in your journey through life. 00:39:23.46\00:39:26.09 And I know, Pastor Clive, you've got a really interesting 00:39:26.13\00:39:29.76 story that's not too old, is it? 00:39:29.80\00:39:32.37 Well, we haven't actually come to the point that you 00:39:32.40\00:39:35.30 became a pastor. 00:39:35.34\00:39:37.24 And this is to do with... 00:39:37.27\00:39:39.07 While I was active as a layperson 00:39:39.11\00:39:41.81 running mission programs and things 00:39:41.84\00:39:43.61 like that in my own church. 00:39:43.65\00:39:47.78 And, but there came a time 00:39:47.82\00:39:49.98 when you may know Pastor Neil Watts. 00:39:50.02\00:39:54.29 He was President of South Australia 00:39:54.32\00:39:55.82 Conference at one stage. 00:39:55.86\00:39:57.66 And I'd served a couple 00:39:57.69\00:39:59.86 of terms on the Conference Executive Committee. 00:39:59.89\00:40:02.53 And also I was on the Board 00:40:02.56\00:40:04.00 of Education for our schools there. 00:40:04.03\00:40:07.00 And when I, my term of office in the Executive Committee 00:40:07.04\00:40:12.21 have completed and I said to Neil, 00:40:12.24\00:40:14.78 "I've got a bit of free spare time now, 00:40:14.81\00:40:16.91 is there something else I can do for the church?" 00:40:16.95\00:40:19.38 And he said, "Well, you remember 00:40:19.41\00:40:21.15 we trained together to be ministers." 00:40:21.18\00:40:23.79 He said, "Would you like to look after a church? 00:40:23.82\00:40:26.42 And I said, "Well, I think I could handle two." 00:40:26.45\00:40:29.72 So that's what I did. 00:40:29.76\00:40:31.86 They gave me two churches. 00:40:31.89\00:40:34.23 And... 00:40:34.26\00:40:35.60 What churches were they? 00:40:35.63\00:40:36.97 The Church of Kadina on Yorke Peninsula, 00:40:37.00\00:40:41.37 and Mendham Church down the Murray River. 00:40:41.40\00:40:44.07 So they're in opposite direction to each other. 00:40:44.11\00:40:46.37 How far apart were you, you know, like? 00:40:46.41\00:40:48.04 Well, I think there's about an hour and a half 00:40:48.08\00:40:49.41 from our home to Kadina and about an hour 00:40:49.44\00:40:51.61 and 10 minutes down to Mendham. 00:40:51.65\00:40:53.62 It's nice how they seem to put 00:40:53.65\00:40:54.98 pastors in churches that are far 00:40:55.02\00:40:56.79 away from each other. 00:40:56.82\00:40:58.15 I think just to test them. 00:40:58.19\00:40:59.52 I know in Western Australia, some of them got three or four 00:40:59.55\00:41:01.62 hours to drive to one of their churches. 00:41:01.66\00:41:03.99 Well, I suppose I was pretty well off then. 00:41:04.03\00:41:07.26 But I still kept on working as a bursar at the school. 00:41:07.30\00:41:10.57 So I was doing that full time 00:41:10.60\00:41:12.63 and looking out the two churches all the while. 00:41:12.67\00:41:14.87 Yes. I did that for three years. 00:41:14.90\00:41:17.04 And then I asked the president, 00:41:17.07\00:41:19.41 might have been Pastor Don Hosken at the time, 00:41:19.44\00:41:21.31 I think, whether I could change churches for the sake 00:41:21.34\00:41:26.01 of getting some additional experience. 00:41:26.05\00:41:29.12 Mind you, it didn't take me long, 00:41:29.15\00:41:31.75 when I started doing volunteer ministry, 00:41:31.79\00:41:34.49 to realize that this is, 00:41:34.52\00:41:36.73 this is what the Lord called me to all those years before. 00:41:36.76\00:41:41.10 You know, this is where my heart was. 00:41:41.13\00:41:44.33 And the Lord bless, you know, with three years in those first 00:41:44.37\00:41:47.44 two churches, and then I had a city church, 00:41:47.47\00:41:50.34 and an outer suburban church in Adelaide for another 00:41:50.37\00:41:55.74 three years, and one of those churches 00:41:55.78\00:41:58.01 was Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills for three years. 00:41:58.05\00:42:02.52 And... So you were not volunteering? 00:42:02.55\00:42:04.85 I was still volunteer. You're still volunteering. 00:42:04.89\00:42:06.65 Still volunteering. 00:42:06.69\00:42:08.46 And we ran a... 00:42:08.49\00:42:10.13 This is where we ran a mission program. 00:42:10.16\00:42:11.63 They're using the evangelism series from Port Moresby, 00:42:11.66\00:42:15.56 conducted by Pastor Mark Finley. 00:42:15.60\00:42:17.87 And via satellite. 00:42:17.90\00:42:19.23 Via satellite. 00:42:19.27\00:42:20.84 And you remember those days you would write in, 00:42:20.87\00:42:24.17 you let you know, 00:42:24.21\00:42:25.54 there'll be a call for where you're watching 00:42:25.57\00:42:27.74 our program around the world. 00:42:27.78\00:42:29.61 And so they'll get responses from all over the world 00:42:29.64\00:42:32.31 as to who was watching. 00:42:32.35\00:42:34.15 And we let it be known that this little 00:42:34.18\00:42:38.29 church in the Adelaide Hills, Birdwood, we were taking 00:42:38.32\00:42:41.69 the programs and running it as a mission program. 00:42:41.72\00:42:44.23 You had a big satellite dish. 00:42:44.26\00:42:45.59 We had a big satellite dish, 00:42:45.63\00:42:46.96 and we had a big screen inside the church. 00:42:47.00\00:42:49.93 And we're running it as a mission program in the church. 00:42:49.96\00:42:55.14 And there was a remarkable story came out 00:42:55.17\00:42:57.11 of that particular mission program. 00:42:57.14\00:43:00.58 It touches my heart to recall that even now. 00:43:00.61\00:43:06.21 There was a man by the name of Dennis, 00:43:06.25\00:43:09.92 who came along to the church, to the mission program. 00:43:09.95\00:43:14.92 He had been raised as an Adventist and married 00:43:14.96\00:43:17.79 as an Adventist but he lapsed, 00:43:17.83\00:43:20.70 and he wandered away for two or three 00:43:20.73\00:43:22.73 decades from the Lord. 00:43:22.76\00:43:26.74 And there was one particular night he was there present, 00:43:26.77\00:43:30.44 and Mark Finley talked about baptism. 00:43:30.47\00:43:35.34 And he explained 00:43:35.38\00:43:36.75 how to call for people to come to be baptized 00:43:36.78\00:43:39.61 and explain why he would be make that decision. 00:43:39.65\00:43:43.69 And then he said, and perhaps there's someone 00:43:43.72\00:43:46.15 amongst the audience here in Port Moresby, 00:43:46.19\00:43:49.06 who would like to be re-baptized and explain 00:43:49.09\00:43:51.26 why you would be re-baptized. 00:43:51.29\00:43:54.40 And that he said something, which I think 00:43:54.43\00:43:55.83 and I need the prompting by the Holy Spirit. 00:43:55.86\00:43:59.70 Mark Finley from Port Moresby. 00:43:59.73\00:44:01.50 He said, "And is there someone in that little 00:44:01.54\00:44:04.54 church in the Adelaide Hills 00:44:04.57\00:44:07.04 who would like to stand to be re-baptized." 00:44:07.08\00:44:10.61 And Dennis stood and made his decision. 00:44:10.65\00:44:14.12 And, you know, I had the privilege 00:44:14.15\00:44:15.65 of baptizing him in later. 00:44:15.68\00:44:18.99 And he remained faithful in the church. 00:44:19.02\00:44:20.79 Remained faithful till his death, yeah. 00:44:20.82\00:44:22.92 Isn't it amazing, so many miles apart, 00:44:22.96\00:44:26.23 and yet the Spirit of God can prompt someone 00:44:26.26\00:44:29.73 and that influences someone to make a decision. 00:44:29.76\00:44:32.13 Yeah. Yeah. 00:44:32.17\00:44:33.50 And to actually name the church. 00:44:33.54\00:44:37.01 You know, well, even though he didn't say 00:44:37.04\00:44:39.14 the name of the church, 00:44:39.17\00:44:40.51 but that little church in the hills in Adelaide. 00:44:40.54\00:44:44.21 And there's someone there who's wrestling? 00:44:44.25\00:44:47.12 Someone who's saying because he was wrestling, 00:44:47.15\00:44:50.02 was saying, no, no, don't, you know, don't go up. 00:44:50.05\00:44:55.59 You can't do that. 00:44:55.62\00:44:57.93 And then God says you, I'm calling you. 00:44:57.96\00:45:03.67 I know you by name. 00:45:03.70\00:45:05.33 I know who you are. 00:45:05.37\00:45:06.70 The Holy Spirit, he prompted Mark, 00:45:06.74\00:45:08.27 you know, to make that appeal very specific. 00:45:08.30\00:45:10.27 It's powerful. 00:45:10.31\00:45:11.64 It is powerful because, you know, 00:45:11.67\00:45:13.01 you can imagine you're that person. 00:45:13.04\00:45:14.71 And that's... 00:45:14.74\00:45:16.08 Boy, would make you, make you tingle all over does, 00:45:16.11\00:45:19.01 doesn't it? 00:45:19.05\00:45:20.38 When you heard the evangelist over 00:45:20.42\00:45:22.92 the satellite saying you in that little church, 00:45:22.95\00:45:25.59 I'm talking to you. 00:45:25.62\00:45:26.96 God is calling you. You have to go up. 00:45:26.99\00:45:30.29 Yeah, I want to ask you, you have children? 00:45:30.33\00:45:34.20 Well, we... 00:45:34.23\00:45:35.56 Yes, we have one daughter, one girl, 00:45:35.60\00:45:37.37 one child I should say and she's the daughter, a girl. 00:45:37.40\00:45:40.90 That's Adele Nash. Yeah. 00:45:40.94\00:45:42.77 And she's not a child anymore. 00:45:42.80\00:45:44.14 No, she isn't. 00:45:44.17\00:45:45.51 She let us know that. 00:45:45.54\00:45:48.31 Yes, we talked it over, you know, 00:45:48.34\00:45:50.28 we should try to get into full time ministry. 00:45:50.31\00:45:54.12 But our daughter Adele was in secondary school. 00:45:54.15\00:45:58.05 So he said, let's wait until she finishes year 12, 00:45:58.09\00:46:02.09 because she wants to go on to Avondale College to train. 00:46:02.12\00:46:06.76 So in year 12, I circulated my name. 00:46:06.80\00:46:10.53 And we were very blessed to recall to North 00:46:10.57\00:46:14.04 New South Wales Conference to full time ministry. 00:46:14.07\00:46:17.71 And she's a very fine young lady. 00:46:17.74\00:46:19.71 And it's a credit to both of you. 00:46:19.74\00:46:22.88 Thank you, John. Yeah. 00:46:22.91\00:46:24.25 So six years of volunteer ministry in South Australia, 00:46:24.28\00:46:27.95 and then we're privileged to serve for 11 years 00:46:27.98\00:46:32.22 of full time ministry in North New South Wales 00:46:32.25\00:46:34.69 before retirement. 00:46:34.72\00:46:36.09 Excellent. 00:46:36.12\00:46:37.46 Now you, Monica, 00:46:37.49\00:46:38.93 you have a story relating to Adele, haven't you? 00:46:38.96\00:46:41.90 Yes, I have. I'd love to hear it. 00:46:41.93\00:46:43.97 I'm sure the viewers will too. 00:46:44.00\00:46:45.43 Yes, it's quite an interesting story really, 'cause it was in, 00:46:45.47\00:46:50.11 I think it was in Adele's last year at Avondale. 00:46:50.14\00:46:53.48 And she was doing communication and marketing course. 00:46:53.51\00:46:57.35 And I think the group 00:46:57.38\00:47:00.82 of students in this course had been asked to do something, 00:47:00.85\00:47:05.05 prepare surveys or something for ADRA. 00:47:05.09\00:47:08.29 That's the Adventist Development and Relief Agency. 00:47:08.32\00:47:11.49 Yes. 00:47:11.53\00:47:12.86 And then they were called, 00:47:12.89\00:47:14.53 when they'd finished all of this, 00:47:14.56\00:47:15.90 they were called to go down to Sydney to sort of review 00:47:15.93\00:47:19.80 the results of their work. 00:47:19.83\00:47:21.94 And so they all traveled down in different cars, 00:47:21.97\00:47:26.11 and that Adele wasn't driving at that stage. 00:47:26.14\00:47:28.88 So she went with someone else. 00:47:28.91\00:47:30.38 And as they're going 00:47:30.41\00:47:32.61 down the M1. 00:47:32.65\00:47:36.62 She said they got to a place 00:47:36.65\00:47:38.02 where traffic comes in from the left hand side 00:47:38.05\00:47:41.09 of the road. 00:47:41.12\00:47:42.46 On the on ramp. Yes. 00:47:42.49\00:47:43.86 And they were in the left hand lane. 00:47:43.89\00:47:46.83 And she said suddenly, it was 00:47:46.86\00:47:49.96 as though they were going to have 00:47:50.00\00:47:52.00 an accident because it was this huge semi-trailer 00:47:52.03\00:47:55.00 coming in on their right, and this other one 00:47:55.04\00:47:57.61 coming down the ramp, 00:47:57.64\00:47:59.01 and they were converging right there. 00:47:59.04\00:48:01.58 And she said, it was as though that was the end of us. 00:48:01.61\00:48:05.88 And she said, but next thing, everything was okay. 00:48:05.91\00:48:10.15 And we just kept on going. 00:48:10.19\00:48:12.25 But the strangest thing was that, that afternoon, 00:48:12.29\00:48:17.43 Clive and I, this was, 00:48:17.46\00:48:19.16 we were still in Singleton at this stage. 00:48:19.19\00:48:21.60 And Clive and I were going up to Muswellbrook to do some 00:48:21.63\00:48:24.10 visitation and so forth and, 00:48:24.13\00:48:26.43 and I fell asleep in the car on the way to Muswellbrook. 00:48:26.47\00:48:29.44 It's about 50 K's from Singleton to Muswellbrook, 00:48:29.47\00:48:32.87 and I'm sort of snoozing away. 00:48:32.91\00:48:34.64 The next thing, this voice said to me, 00:48:34.68\00:48:37.41 pray for Adele, pray for her now. 00:48:37.45\00:48:40.82 And I'm sort of trying to wake up and the voice came again, 00:48:40.85\00:48:45.25 pray for Adele, pray for her now. 00:48:45.29\00:48:48.82 And I said, God, I don't know why I'm praying, 00:48:48.86\00:48:51.69 but whatever it is, she's in Your care, 00:48:51.73\00:48:54.60 please take care of her. 00:48:54.63\00:48:57.23 And we went on and did our visitation 00:48:57.27\00:49:00.44 and got home probably about 7 o'clock 00:49:00.47\00:49:04.17 or something that evening, 8 o'clock the phone rang, 00:49:04.21\00:49:09.54 and it was Adele. 00:49:09.58\00:49:11.08 And I thought this is strange because she doesn't usually 00:49:11.11\00:49:14.25 ring out, she wants to save her money. 00:49:14.28\00:49:16.38 So mom and dad ring her. 00:49:16.42\00:49:17.92 Thatâ s exactly right. 00:49:17.95\00:49:19.45 She's still the same today by the way. 00:49:19.49\00:49:22.32 And I said, "How are you?" 00:49:22.36\00:49:24.93 And she said, "Oh yeah, all right." 00:49:24.96\00:49:27.76 And there was a sort of silence and then I said, 00:49:27.80\00:49:31.03 "I wanna tell you something, I said today 00:49:31.07\00:49:33.44 when dad and I were going up to Muswellbrook, 00:49:33.47\00:49:36.17 I said, I went to sleep 00:49:36.20\00:49:37.54 and I said next thing this voice woke me up, 00:49:37.57\00:49:39.97 saying pray for Adele. 00:49:40.01\00:49:41.91 Pray for her now." 00:49:41.94\00:49:44.05 And there was another big silence on the end 00:49:44.08\00:49:47.48 of the phone. 00:49:47.52\00:49:48.95 And Adele said, "What time was that?" 00:49:48.98\00:49:52.79 And I said, "It was about half past two." 00:49:52.82\00:49:56.79 And she said, "Oh." 00:49:56.83\00:50:00.90 And I said, "What's wrong?" 00:50:00.93\00:50:04.43 And she said, "At that time, 00:50:04.47\00:50:06.57 we thought we were going to have 00:50:06.60\00:50:07.94 a terrible accident on the M1." 00:50:07.97\00:50:11.31 And she said, "It was like, the trucks just moved apart. 00:50:11.34\00:50:15.21 And we, we were all okay." 00:50:15.24\00:50:20.25 And then I said, again, you know, 00:50:20.28\00:50:23.52 I said, I was woken up. 00:50:23.55\00:50:26.45 And this voice said, I said, that could have 00:50:26.49\00:50:28.76 only been an angel or God speaking to me to pray. 00:50:28.79\00:50:32.39 Prompting of the Holy Spirit. 00:50:32.43\00:50:34.33 To pray. That's right. 00:50:34.36\00:50:36.33 And, you know, we've never forgotten that. 00:50:36.36\00:50:39.80 I'm sure you will never forget it, you know. 00:50:39.83\00:50:42.70 So, I always thought with Adele from when she was a baby. 00:50:42.74\00:50:48.18 And she was dedicated. 00:50:48.21\00:50:49.81 And I've often thought that God has something 00:50:49.84\00:50:52.91 special for her to do. 00:50:52.95\00:50:55.15 And, you know, if he would save her life, 00:50:55.18\00:50:57.22 and perhaps the life of a couple 00:50:57.25\00:50:58.69 of other young people there, God has a plan for them. 00:50:58.72\00:51:02.36 Yes. That's right. 00:51:02.39\00:51:04.33 Definitely. 00:51:04.36\00:51:06.06 Sorry if I get a bit teary about that. 00:51:06.09\00:51:08.16 No, it's a very moving story. 00:51:08.20\00:51:10.30 It would be very impacting. 00:51:10.33\00:51:12.73 Clive, you have a story to tell that 00:51:12.77\00:51:17.27 where you were nearly drowned. 00:51:17.31\00:51:19.81 You nearly drowned in the river? 00:51:19.84\00:51:21.21 Oh, yes. Yes. 00:51:21.24\00:51:24.61 Again, back to Townsville, and I was just a lad, 00:51:24.65\00:51:30.02 primary school led, you know, swimming in a tidal creek. 00:51:30.05\00:51:33.92 And my parents were sitting on the bank watching on 00:51:33.96\00:51:37.09 and I got into difficulties. 00:51:37.13\00:51:38.89 I think there was a change in the tide 00:51:38.93\00:51:40.63 and the water was swirling around 00:51:40.66\00:51:42.86 and it's kind of like forming, you know, whirlpools 00:51:42.90\00:51:47.40 under the bridge and I was getting dragged down. 00:51:47.44\00:51:50.37 And all of a sudden, 00:51:50.41\00:51:51.74 my father saw that that I was in difficulty. 00:51:51.77\00:51:54.74 Not even thinking to take his glasses off, 00:51:54.78\00:51:57.85 he just dived in. 00:51:57.88\00:52:00.02 And I distinctly remember, 00:52:00.05\00:52:02.42 you know, trying to pull him down while 00:52:02.45\00:52:04.12 I'm trying to get up for breath. 00:52:04.15\00:52:06.05 Anyway, yes, he saved, saved me from drowning. 00:52:06.09\00:52:10.06 But lost his glasses? 00:52:10.09\00:52:11.43 Lost his glasses, but saved his son. 00:52:11.46\00:52:13.36 I would say that he thought the deal was a very good one. 00:52:13.40\00:52:17.83 He'd rather have son than his glasses. 00:52:17.87\00:52:19.80 Being at Townsville, being adventurous into those rivers 00:52:19.83\00:52:23.34 or waters with crocodiles, you know? 00:52:23.37\00:52:27.84 Most people would say that's interesting. 00:52:27.88\00:52:31.55 That's for sure. Yes. 00:52:31.58\00:52:33.28 Well, we're going to have our address roll right now. 00:52:33.31\00:52:36.12 And if you would like to contact us for any reason, 00:52:36.15\00:52:38.62 you've got comments. 00:52:38.65\00:52:41.02 You want to say how much 3ABN is blessing you, 00:52:41.06\00:52:43.96 how much you enjoy these programs. 00:52:43.99\00:52:45.33 And I like getting those messages from people 00:52:45.36\00:52:48.03 who say they really enjoy watching these interviews. 00:52:48.06\00:52:51.90 And we thank you for those who have let us know. 00:52:51.93\00:52:54.37 But if you'd like to contact us, 00:52:54.40\00:52:55.74 make a donation whatever you would like to do, 00:52:55.77\00:52:57.87 these are the details. 00:52:57.91\00:52:59.24 If you would like to contact 3ABN Australia, 00:53:03.51\00:53:05.75 you may do so in the following ways. 00:53:05.78\00:53:07.65 You may write to 3ABN Australia, PO Box 752, 00:53:07.68\00:53:12.25 Morisset, New South Wales 2264 Australia, 00:53:12.29\00:53:16.93 or you may call 02 4973 3456, 00:53:16.96\00:53:21.66 That's 02 4973 3456. 00:53:21.70\00:53:26.10 You may also email us at mail@3abnaustralia.org.au 00:53:26.13\00:53:32.04 That's 00:53:32.07\00:53:33.44 mail@3abnaustralia.org.au 00:53:33.48\00:53:39.41 Thank you for all you do to help us like the world 00:53:39.45\00:53:42.22 with the glory of God's truth. 00:53:42.25\00:53:43.69 I hope you got those details. 00:53:46.72\00:53:48.46 And, you know, our work 00:53:48.49\00:53:50.26 is based on a faith based ministry. 00:53:50.29\00:53:52.99 We believe that God provides 00:53:53.03\00:53:54.56 as He touches your heart 00:53:54.60\00:53:55.93 and the Holy Spirit moves upon you. 00:53:55.96\00:53:57.77 There is a great need to get the gospel out in such 00:53:57.80\00:54:00.74 a way as never before. 00:54:00.77\00:54:02.37 The last three angels' messages are very 00:54:02.40\00:54:04.07 pertinent for the times in which we live. 00:54:04.11\00:54:06.27 And we'd encourage you to pray for us 00:54:06.31\00:54:07.88 and we really need that as we see 00:54:07.91\00:54:10.61 the day approaching. 00:54:10.65\00:54:12.05 Now, Pastor Clive, you mentioned 00:54:12.08\00:54:14.02 you went into ministry full time at a later part 00:54:14.05\00:54:16.62 of your life before you retired because I actually attended 00:54:16.65\00:54:20.12 one of your churches that you minister that at Lakeside 00:54:20.16\00:54:23.16 in New South Wales. 00:54:23.19\00:54:25.16 And how many other churches were you've been involved in? 00:54:25.19\00:54:28.36 Well, it's been five years initially here in the North 00:54:28.40\00:54:32.20 New South Wales Conference at Singleton 00:54:32.23\00:54:35.70 and Muswellbrook Churches and we, 00:54:35.74\00:54:39.94 you know, they're little country churches but the Lord 00:54:39.97\00:54:42.24 blessed us. 00:54:42.28\00:54:44.05 I think we had an average of five baptisms per year 00:54:44.08\00:54:48.12 during those five years there. 00:54:48.15\00:54:52.55 And ran mission programs, of course. 00:54:52.59\00:54:54.82 You know, I was asked to run mission programs. 00:54:54.86\00:54:57.29 And then we were called to Lakeside Church. 00:54:57.33\00:55:01.46 And I think I was there for six years at Lakeside. 00:55:01.50\00:55:05.53 And there also you had Dungog Church. 00:55:05.57\00:55:07.17 And for the latter part of the service at Lakeside area 00:55:07.20\00:55:10.64 is a little country church called Dungog. 00:55:10.67\00:55:12.77 And we went there with you at least 00:55:12.81\00:55:14.68 twice on the Sabbath to join you there. 00:55:14.71\00:55:17.71 I had the privilege of inviting you to sing there, Rosemary. 00:55:17.75\00:55:20.42 Yes, and take the Sabbath School. 00:55:20.45\00:55:22.32 Something like that. 00:55:22.35\00:55:23.69 You know what I just wanna say is, Pastor Clive, 00:55:23.72\00:55:25.22 you'll know His voice. 00:55:25.25\00:55:27.62 He's been our opening speaker at our homecoming 00:55:27.66\00:55:32.39 that we've had. 00:55:32.43\00:55:33.76 He speaks on the open and the close of the radio. 00:55:33.80\00:55:35.93 Yeah. 00:55:35.96\00:55:37.30 And you've done, you're involved as a host on, 00:55:37.33\00:55:40.04 Let God Speak. 00:55:40.07\00:55:41.40 And I'd encourage you to take time to look at that, 00:55:41.44\00:55:43.71 because that's what we do here in Australia 00:55:43.74\00:55:46.17 with the Sabbath School lesson that each and one 00:55:46.21\00:55:48.61 of you I hope is studying every day. 00:55:48.64\00:55:50.48 Because I was very familiar with saying, "Hello, 00:55:50.51\00:55:53.11 I'm Clive Nash, welcome to Let God Speak." 00:55:53.15\00:55:57.45 You once said, what did you say you had a voice for radio? 00:55:57.49\00:55:59.79 Is that what you said? 00:55:59.82\00:56:01.16 I have a good voice for radio. 00:56:01.19\00:56:03.83 Not a good, a good face or radio. 00:56:03.86\00:56:05.29 Yes, that's it, that's the one. 00:56:05.33\00:56:07.03 So you did radio voiceovers at some stage, did you?
