We are back on the campus 00:00:08.68\00:00:10.82 of Southern Adventist University here in Collegedale, Tennessee. 00:00:10.85\00:00:15.71 I just want to say Ooltewah 00:00:15.74\00:00:17.11 but it's not Ooltewah, you're technically in Collegedale. 00:00:17.14\00:00:19.25 Well, that's right. We're in city limits of Collegedale. 00:00:19.28\00:00:21.47 And it's--they call it, the locals here say Ooltewah. 00:00:21.50\00:00:23.85 Ooltewah. Ooltewah. Okay. 00:00:23.88\00:00:26.03 It's Cherokee for owls nest. 00:00:26.06\00:00:27.83 Oh, is that so? That's right. 00:00:27.86\00:00:30.74 Professor Steven Ruf is with us 00:00:30.77\00:00:33.62 and we've been talking about just a number of things. 00:00:33.65\00:00:35.68 Why I wanted to get to you 00:00:35.71\00:00:38.36 knowing how aggressively secular media can be. Right. 00:00:38.39\00:00:44.70 Is it easier--are you hearing any kind of stories 00:00:44.73\00:00:47.69 anecdotally otherwise when you send these young people 00:00:47.72\00:00:50.52 out into media, news, entertainment, 00:00:50.55\00:00:53.16 are they able to carry their faith with them 00:00:53.19\00:00:56.39 and sort of stand up for Christ in an arena 00:00:56.42\00:01:00.58 that questions everything? Exactly. Yeah. 00:01:00.61\00:01:02.83 And the newsroom can be--Yes. 00:01:02.86\00:01:04.23 A very secular place, you know, with the language and some 00:01:04.26\00:01:07.27 of the values--we talk about that, you know, in our classes, 00:01:07.30\00:01:10.94 we--you know, I've had personal experience 00:01:10.97\00:01:13.59 being in that position as a practicing Adventist 00:01:13.62\00:01:16.34 and sharing my faith in the workplace 00:01:16.37\00:01:18.97 and dealing with issues of Sabbath and others. 00:01:19.00\00:01:21.78 And we say, you know, you can't hide this under a bush. 00:01:21.81\00:01:25.66 Yes, yes. You know, you're gonna be-- 00:01:25.69\00:01:27.28 there's gonna come a time and a place. 00:01:27.31\00:01:28.92 Even really, even before you're hired, those discussions 00:01:28.95\00:01:31.78 need to be happening with an employer. 00:01:31.81\00:01:34.51 But yes, we hear back from our students 00:01:34.54\00:01:37.40 and it is a challenge for some of them, not all. 00:01:37.43\00:01:41.54 But we try our best to prepare them for that moment 00:01:41.57\00:01:44.05 and to encourage them and we invite some of our alumni 00:01:44.08\00:01:47.62 who are in those situations to come back to the classroom, 00:01:47.65\00:01:51.16 to inspire our students and say, listen, we need--there's a need 00:01:51.19\00:01:55.30 for a witness in those, those very influential rooms, 00:01:55.33\00:01:59.19 those newsrooms where, you know, the affecting 00:01:59.22\00:02:01.41 broadcast going all over the world. 00:02:01.44\00:02:03.76 We need to have our people of faith in those situations. 00:02:03.79\00:02:08.20 Pen this hereby and this is gonna put you on the spot. 00:02:08.23\00:02:10.38 It's all right. 00:02:10.41\00:02:12.21 In talking with one of our Adventist newspersons, 00:02:12.24\00:02:14.92 they went into their job with a clear understanding 00:02:14.95\00:02:19.19 that Sabbath, they were gonna be off. 00:02:19.22\00:02:22.52 But there came a new story, I don't recall what it was, 00:02:22.55\00:02:25.26 it was either kidnapping or something ongoing. All right. 00:02:25.29\00:02:28.41 And because of the brevity of the story 00:02:28.44\00:02:32.62 and its late breaking, you know, the aspect that things 00:02:32.65\00:02:37.16 were happening all the time, it was a story 00:02:37.19\00:02:38.56 that was of great importance to the family, 00:02:38.59\00:02:40.47 they chose on that particular weekend 00:02:40.50\00:02:42.42 to stay through with the story. 00:02:42.45\00:02:44.91 They had been the face of the story, 00:02:44.94\00:02:46.41 they had covered the story, they had done the onsite stuff. 00:02:46.44\00:02:48.85 So the person said because of this particular kind of story 00:02:48.88\00:02:53.12 and the impact they had on the community "I chose to stay." 00:02:53.15\00:02:56.23 Now later on, they said that the other people 00:02:56.26\00:02:59.62 in the newsroom who knew I was Adventist 00:02:59.65\00:03:02.33 really lauded me for that, in fact, 00:03:02.36\00:03:05.19 it was the means of having some other people say, 00:03:05.22\00:03:07.85 "You know, I want to know a little bit more about 00:03:07.88\00:03:09.25 your faith" because I saw in you a human person, 00:03:09.28\00:03:12.85 not just a person who preached dogma--Yeah. 00:03:12.88\00:03:15.37 But who lived out their faith in real life in real time. 00:03:15.40\00:03:19.14 Respond to that if you will. 00:03:19.17\00:03:20.73 Every situation is different and as much as we can predict 00:03:20.76\00:03:24.42 or want to make proclamations, I think every situation 00:03:24.45\00:03:27.99 has to be, you know, you look at it on its own merits. 00:03:28.02\00:03:30.89 And personally, I can just speak for myself. 00:03:30.92\00:03:35.55 It was my policy with my employer that, you know, 00:03:35.58\00:03:39.52 when we came sundown Friday that I was off the beat, 00:03:39.55\00:03:42.97 you know, I wasn't gonna be reporting. 00:03:43.00\00:03:45.17 But there was times and typically 00:03:45.20\00:03:47.90 this was when there was a severe weather event like a tornado, 00:03:47.93\00:03:51.69 a catastrophic weather event that had come through, 00:03:51.72\00:03:53.77 where was it, we were in the middle of and there was, 00:03:53.80\00:03:56.89 you know, issues of life and death going on 00:03:56.92\00:03:58.52 and the media needed to be out there informing 00:03:58.55\00:04:00.61 people what was going on. 00:04:00.64\00:04:02.84 You know, I called the news director and said I'm there. 00:04:02.87\00:04:05.29 Yeah. I'm not there on the clock, 00:04:05.32\00:04:07.06 I'm just there to do my job, to help the community. 00:04:07.09\00:04:10.22 You know, lot of people don't realize that the day 00:04:10.25\00:04:14.23 that Desmond Doss saved all those people was on the Sabbath. 00:04:14.26\00:04:19.32 And Desmond Doss was very true to God 00:04:19.35\00:04:23.51 and always kept the Sabbath. 00:04:23.54\00:04:25.98 But when there was an emergency situation, 00:04:26.01\00:04:30.03 then it wasn't just training or something, 00:04:30.06\00:04:33.19 they needed him. 00:04:33.22\00:04:35.23 He had prayer first, had little time, he said, 00:04:35.26\00:04:38.30 and then he went out and went in to duty. 00:04:38.33\00:04:42.41 And I think that God honors that kind of thing. 00:04:42.44\00:04:46.58 If you look back there are situations where--if you look 00:04:46.61\00:04:52.51 at the battle of Jericho, the Lord actually had them 00:04:52.54\00:04:55.89 on the Sabbath, they weren't seven days, 00:04:55.92\00:04:58.27 there's no way you can do seven without 00:04:58.30\00:05:00.63 one of them being the Sabbath-- Right. 00:05:00.66\00:05:02.47 And--but he had them during it and so there are emergencies. 00:05:02.50\00:05:08.03 Yes. Not just normal duty, but you take something 00:05:08.06\00:05:11.70 like a hurricane where news people are saving lives-- 00:05:11.73\00:05:15.33 Yeah. Yeah. And helping. Yeah. It's certainly-- 00:05:15.36\00:05:18.21 It's important and I ask you that question 00:05:18.24\00:05:19.61 because it occurs to me that you are preparing students 00:05:19.64\00:05:22.80 for the real world and to take Christ in the real world. 00:05:22.83\00:05:25.31 I remember years ago in New York City, 00:05:25.34\00:05:26.71 we had this horrific snowstorm on a Friday night in to Sabbath. 00:05:26.74\00:05:30.30 Some Adventists went in to help who were working 00:05:30.33\00:05:32.73 with sanitation and cleaning streets and others did not. 00:05:32.76\00:05:36.14 And I remember when we went down to deal with the commissioner, 00:05:36.17\00:05:39.99 he asked this question, he said, "If it snows on Friday night, 00:05:40.02\00:05:44.28 will you shovel your walks in front of your church, 00:05:44.31\00:05:46.72 so folk can get it on Saturday morning?" 00:05:46.75\00:05:48.38 That's right. And they said, "Yeah, we would." 00:05:48.41\00:05:50.74 Same with the city of New York, the city was locked down. 00:05:50.77\00:05:52.98 We had to have those streets clear for fire, for safety, 00:05:53.01\00:05:55.55 for ambulance, for hospitals and there are times 00:05:55.58\00:05:58.67 when you've got to put legs on your faith 00:05:58.70\00:06:00.75 and make it very, very-- and people will see that. 00:06:00.78\00:06:03.20 And I think they will appreciate that. 00:06:03.23\00:06:04.97 We saw something few years ago, we had inline 00:06:05.00\00:06:09.16 hurricane that came through our neighborhood. 00:06:09.19\00:06:12.73 It hit on Sabbath. Yeah. 00:06:12.76\00:06:14.98 And I know Danny Shelton, there were people 00:06:15.01\00:06:18.50 who had things across their house, 00:06:18.53\00:06:20.83 across their lawn, they couldn't get out. 00:06:20.86\00:06:22.79 Danny grabbed a--Chainsaw. 00:06:22.82\00:06:25.47 Chainsaw and he was out there cutting right along 00:06:25.50\00:06:28.12 with the rest of those who were trying to help 00:06:28.15\00:06:30.48 alleviate the pain and suffering in that community. 00:06:30.51\00:06:34.13 Yes. And so the Lord wants us to use 00:06:34.16\00:06:38.44 our judgment in these things. 00:06:38.47\00:06:39.84 Let me just say one last thing though about 00:06:39.87\00:06:41.41 the secular newsroom, there are people of other faith there. 00:06:41.44\00:06:46.72 And lot of people don't think about this but as an Adventist, 00:06:46.75\00:06:50.39 I discovered a good Baptist, you know, 00:06:50.42\00:06:52.36 who was in the newsroom. 00:06:52.39\00:06:53.92 And, you know, we would get together 00:06:53.95\00:06:55.82 and maybe in the break room and just share our faith 00:06:55.85\00:07:00.68 with each other and others came into that group 00:07:00.71\00:07:03.58 and that was inspiring, you know, 00:07:03.61\00:07:06.55 to be able to share like that. Yeah, yeah. 00:07:06.58\00:07:08.93 I think the ability to train, to take Jesus wherever you go 00:07:08.96\00:07:12.25 and I'm very, very happy to hear from you, from a president 00:07:12.28\00:07:15.39 that you are giving them the three hours, 00:07:15.42\00:07:19.61 but also giving them Jesus 00:07:19.64\00:07:21.41 in whom we live, move and have our being. 00:07:21.44\00:07:23.39 So thank you so very, very much for what you do. Yeah. 00:07:23.42\00:07:25.52 We really appreciate what you're doing. 00:07:25.55\00:07:27.03 Thank you very much and we will look forward 00:07:27.06\00:07:29.37 to future partnerships and sending some 00:07:29.40\00:07:31.37 of our graduates up your way or interns your way. Great. 00:07:31.40\00:07:34.39 We appreciate you letting them have that opportunity. 00:07:34.42\00:07:36.60 Thank you so much. Yes. Bless you. 00:07:36.63\00:07:38.46 Well, listen, we do want to send this to you, 00:07:38.49\00:07:40.98 "I keep about your work." 00:07:41.01\00:07:42.38 I'm gonna read one more paragraph 00:07:42.41\00:07:43.78 while we're bringing on our next guest. 00:07:43.81\00:07:45.79 But he has not sent you to make money. 00:07:45.82\00:07:49.04 A lot of times people think he has but he hasn't. 00:07:49.07\00:07:51.80 He's not commanded you to get rich. 00:07:51.83\00:07:53.50 He has never bidden you defend your character. 00:07:53.53\00:07:56.79 He has not set you at work to contradict falsehood 00:07:56.82\00:07:59.87 which Satan and his servants may start to peddle. 00:07:59.90\00:08:02.95 If you do these things, you will do nothing else. 00:08:02.98\00:08:06.12 You will be at work for yourself and not for the Lord. 00:08:06.15\00:08:09.93 So if you want a copy of this and the full thing 00:08:09.96\00:08:13.48 we'll eventually read it to you. 00:08:13.51\00:08:15.03 Just call us at 618-627-4651. 00:08:15.06\00:08:20.96 Ask them to send you this-- which is beautiful, 00:08:20.99\00:08:24.92 it's on really good parchment type paper. 00:08:24.95\00:08:27.53 It says "Keep about your work." 00:08:27.56\00:08:30.52 And it is suitable for framing. 00:08:30.55\00:08:33.16 I have one framed, in fact, we copied mine but actually 00:08:33.19\00:08:38.28 they reset the type and did a better job 00:08:38.31\00:08:40.43 than the copy I have. 00:08:40.46\00:08:41.83 So I'm gonna frame one of these. 00:08:41.86\00:08:43.34 I'm gonna frame this also, I'll take this very seriously. 00:08:43.37\00:08:45.82 Yeah. You know, this one line and Jim Marcum is coming up. 00:08:45.85\00:08:48.20 We better have him come on up. Well, look at this line, 00:08:48.23\00:08:50.25 "He has not bidden you to defend your character." No. 00:08:50.28\00:08:52.29 You know, how automatically when your character 00:08:52.32\00:08:54.51 is assaulted, you're gonna defend yourself, man. 00:08:54.54\00:08:55.97 Exactly. You know, you're gonna do whatever 00:08:56.00\00:08:57.37 you can to clear your name. Yeah. 00:08:57.40\00:08:59.45 But if you make that your life's work, 00:08:59.48\00:09:01.77 that's all you'll ever do-- That's all. 00:09:01.80\00:09:03.44 Is defend your character. 00:09:03.47\00:09:04.84 Let Christ stand up for you and work through you. 00:09:04.87\00:09:07.65 This is great, great information--It is. 00:09:07.68\00:09:09.71 And great inspiration. It is. It really is. 00:09:09.74\00:09:11.16 And you need to read it often. 00:09:11.19\00:09:12.99 Yeah. Dr. Jim Marcum, we welcome you. 00:09:13.02\00:09:15.24 We're glad you're with us. 00:09:15.27\00:09:16.64 You know, when we were coming to this air, we said, 00:09:16.67\00:09:19.27 "Yeah, we're in, we're in Jim Marcum's diocese here." 00:09:19.30\00:09:21.31 That's right. So good to have you here, man. Good to see you. 00:09:21.34\00:09:23.23 Well, it's great to be here and this is home 00:09:23.26\00:09:25.46 and we're glad it was such a great day for you guys. 00:09:25.49\00:09:28.03 Oh, beautiful. And I know it's been a long day, 00:09:28.06\00:09:29.90 so I'm gonna sort of give you some energy here. 00:09:29.93\00:09:32.06 Good. And we will get things going here. 00:09:32.09\00:09:34.54 Things are kind of bogging down. 00:09:34.57\00:09:35.95 No, no, no, no. No, no. It's a second wind. 00:09:35.98\00:09:38.59 Yeah, indeed. Things kind of picked up 00:09:38.62\00:09:39.99 when I spilled a bottle of water a few minutes ago and I'm-- 00:09:40.02\00:09:43.05 Well, you know-- I tell you. 00:09:43.08\00:09:44.45 You recovered pretty well. 00:09:44.48\00:09:45.85 Well, it's--I hope it wasn't too obvious 00:09:45.88\00:09:48.89 but they took the band off the bottle 00:09:48.92\00:09:52.30 because they want to advertise. 00:09:52.33\00:09:54.11 But that weakens those bottles and I had already drunk half 00:09:54.14\00:09:57.16 of it and when I reached that and grab it, 00:09:57.19\00:09:58.93 it collapsed on me. And-- 00:09:58.96\00:10:01.45 I just thought that was the power of your hands. 00:10:01.48\00:10:02.91 Oh, yeah, right. 00:10:02.94\00:10:04.50 I thought Jim was washing my socks-- 00:10:04.53\00:10:06.22 I tell you he thought we're having 00:10:06.25\00:10:08.22 a foot washing service here and C.A. get in. 00:10:08.25\00:10:11.34 But we--anyway they came out and helped me. Yeah. 00:10:11.37\00:10:15.38 Michael came out. Michael, thank you and Sheryl 00:10:15.41\00:10:19.06 for bringing out some towels 00:10:19.09\00:10:20.74 so we could kind of mop things up here. 00:10:20.77\00:10:22.68 Speaking of ultimate prescription. Yeah. Okay. 00:10:22.71\00:10:27.36 And we've got the ultimate purpose 00:10:27.39\00:10:29.05 and the ultimate prescription. Indeed, yeah. 00:10:29.08\00:10:30.84 You know, it's a great word and everyone is using it, 00:10:30.87\00:10:33.24 you know, ultimate, it's something 00:10:33.27\00:10:34.64 we all want to reach the ultimate. Yeah. 00:10:34.67\00:10:36.99 We're all looking for that. Yeah. All right. 00:10:37.02\00:10:38.57 Give us an update when last you were with us-- Yeah. 00:10:38.60\00:10:40.40 That the program was just starting, the book was out-- 00:10:40.43\00:10:42.44 Yes. Things are moving. You're going, you're being syndicated. 00:10:42.47\00:10:44.75 I've seen the program on a couple of cable 00:10:44.78\00:10:46.82 channels out by us. Yeah. 00:10:46.85\00:10:48.22 So things seem to be going pretty good. 00:10:48.25\00:10:49.62 The program is doing well and we record 00:10:49.65\00:10:52.04 certain number at 3ABN every year. 00:10:52.07\00:10:54.23 And the next set we're schedule to make in March. 00:10:54.26\00:10:57.31 And we're gonna talk about the next 13 programs. 00:10:57.34\00:10:59.74 We're gonna do on alternative, you know, showing people 00:10:59.77\00:11:02.90 the right place to use alternative medicines. Yeah. 00:11:02.93\00:11:05.30 The place to use modern medicine. 00:11:05.33\00:11:07.19 Right. And the place to use spiritual medicine. 00:11:07.22\00:11:09.62 Okay. You know, it really is a balance. 00:11:09.65\00:11:11.38 Yes. And we have to know what that balance is. 00:11:11.41\00:11:14.03 And also lead people to that relationship, 00:11:14.06\00:11:16.64 that saving relationship with Christ 00:11:16.67\00:11:19.09 that sort of gives us the power to do things 00:11:19.12\00:11:21.32 and know where to go. Yes, yeah. So, the program is done well. 00:11:21.35\00:11:23.96 In fact, starting in January on 3ABN, 00:11:23.99\00:11:27.80 we just signed a contract with 3ABN 00:11:27.83\00:11:29.78 to do a live calling program. Okay. 00:11:29.81\00:11:32.57 It's called "Heart of Health Life." Yes. 00:11:32.60\00:11:34.74 And 3ABN viewers from all over the world 00:11:34.77\00:11:37.33 will be able to ask our specialist each week 00:11:37.36\00:11:41.40 whatever question they want to ask them. 00:11:41.43\00:11:43.57 So one week we might have 00:11:43.60\00:11:45.14 a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology. 00:11:45.17\00:11:47.35 The next week we might have an urologist or plastic surgeon-- 00:11:47.38\00:11:50.25 That's exciting. The cardiothoracic surgeon. Yes. 00:11:50.28\00:11:51.85 And they can get good medical advice 00:11:51.88\00:11:53.81 and we'll try to keep it balanced you know, 00:11:53.84\00:11:55.85 so the place where modern medicine is needed, 00:11:55.88\00:11:58.19 the place where lifestyle changes is needed 00:11:58.22\00:12:00.36 but we'll always lead people first 00:12:00.39\00:12:02.39 to that saving relationship, so no matter what happens. 00:12:02.42\00:12:05.16 Yeah. We have that ultimate prescription 00:12:05.19\00:12:07.17 which is that relationship, that saving relationship 00:12:07.20\00:12:09.59 with out Lord and Savior. 00:12:09.62\00:12:11.09 You know that is a very timely and excellent series 00:12:11.12\00:12:13.75 of subjects to deal into, there are those in the church, 00:12:13.78\00:12:16.03 out of church who only believe in 00:12:16.06\00:12:18.32 sort of what we call alternative medicine. 00:12:18.35\00:12:20.54 Naturopathic medicine and of course it has its place. 00:12:20.57\00:12:23.30 Yes. But there are times and even Naturopathic doctors 00:12:23.33\00:12:26.50 will tell you, there are times when you need to go 00:12:26.53\00:12:28.66 under the knife or-- and I did both-- Right. 00:12:28.69\00:12:30.83 With mine, I went to Eden Valley 00:12:30.86\00:12:33.37 and we did the lifestyle changes 00:12:33.40\00:12:34.77 and I think it bought me time. Oh, yeah. 00:12:34.80\00:12:36.17 I really do. I think it helped knock down 00:12:36.20\00:12:38.15 the aggressiveness of the cancer, 00:12:38.18\00:12:39.55 but there came a time when the doctor said, 00:12:39.58\00:12:40.96 "It's still there. 00:12:40.99\00:12:42.36 It is growing slowly but it is growing, 00:12:42.39\00:12:43.76 we need to deal with this." 00:12:43.79\00:12:45.16 so we moved into traditional medicine. Right. 00:12:45.19\00:12:47.34 And I think using a wise combination 00:12:47.37\00:12:49.35 of both with prayer and under the power 00:12:49.38\00:12:52.29 of the Holy Spirit is wisdom. Exactly. 00:12:52.32\00:12:54.78 Yeah. And you know, when people do that and they reach out 00:12:54.81\00:12:57.02 in prayer, their relationship will be stronger. 00:12:57.05\00:12:59.24 And they will grow closer to God. 00:12:59.27\00:13:01.74 And no matter what happens on this sinful earth 00:13:01.77\00:13:04.16 with our bad genetics, we're assured 00:13:04.19\00:13:06.90 of healing at some point. Yeah. 00:13:06.93\00:13:09.15 You know, sometimes God heals right away. 00:13:09.18\00:13:11.03 I've seen that. I actually saw that this week in my practice. 00:13:11.06\00:13:13.67 Praise God. Someone was healed just like that. 00:13:13.70\00:13:15.64 We see people that are healed through God, 00:13:15.67\00:13:18.05 given them the power to change lifestyles. Yeah. 00:13:18.08\00:13:20.08 And not everyone's perfect. 00:13:20.11\00:13:21.48 You know, we try to love people and not judge people. 00:13:21.51\00:13:25.01 And bring them in, you know, bring into that relationship 00:13:25.04\00:13:27.60 and God changes them. 00:13:27.63\00:13:29.00 And we also know they He helps us to a better lifestyle, 00:13:29.03\00:13:33.29 but no matter what we're imperfect people. Yes. 00:13:33.32\00:13:35.64 And he promises to heal us all, 00:13:35.67\00:13:37.80 that walk with Him at some point. 00:13:37.83\00:13:39.53 And that's the message we want to get out. 00:13:39.56\00:13:41.62 That's the healing message that draws people 00:13:41.65\00:13:43.76 to that relationship where they grow 00:13:43.79\00:13:45.62 and they learn more about their savior. 00:13:45.65\00:13:47.59 Yeah. Yeah. Well, you know sometimes 00:13:47.62\00:13:50.11 we get the idea that we're gonna live forever, 00:13:50.14\00:13:52.73 we are but not on this earth. That's right. 00:13:52.76\00:13:54.78 And I know I was at one of our lifestyle centers 00:13:54.81\00:13:58.68 once and ministering there and someone died. 00:13:58.71\00:14:03.56 And it just--it blew them away. 00:14:03.59\00:14:05.99 Because they said, he was following all the principles. 00:14:06.02\00:14:09.67 And I said, "Look, that's great, that's wonderful, 00:14:09.70\00:14:12.61 but that does not guarantee us 00:14:12.64\00:14:15.92 that you are gonna live forever." 00:14:15.95\00:14:17.93 And we don't even know the lifespan of an individual. 00:14:17.96\00:14:21.91 I've seen people who lived an extremely careful 00:14:21.94\00:14:25.35 and healthy life and not make it to 60. Yeah. 00:14:25.38\00:14:28.50 And I've seen people that didn't live the way 00:14:28.53\00:14:30.47 they probably should and made it to 100. 00:14:30.50\00:14:32.73 But that is something you just don't--it's not a predictor. 00:14:32.76\00:14:38.52 We just had Gordon Bietz and he said, 00:14:38.55\00:14:42.05 "His dad lived to be 99, he thinks he has good genes." 00:14:42.08\00:14:44.98 But I didn't want to press him too much but I'm telling you 00:14:45.01\00:14:50.42 that I've seen people who lived to be 90, 00:14:50.45\00:14:53.31 whose children didn't live even to be 70. So--Yeah. 00:14:53.34\00:14:57.54 And we want, you know, our message-- You don't know. 00:14:57.57\00:14:59.01 We want to let people know that we would rather 00:14:59.04\00:15:01.37 live one year walking with God 00:15:01.40\00:15:03.46 than 90 years without Him. Yes. 00:15:03.49\00:15:05.48 Exactly. Yes, yes, yes. 00:15:05.51\00:15:06.88 And that's a great message, right. Yeah, it is. 00:15:06.91\00:15:08.77 Yeah. And with all of our gusto, with all of our life 00:15:08.80\00:15:11.16 that He gives us, we want to lay it all on the line for Him 00:15:11.19\00:15:13.65 everyday because we're coming down to perilous times. 00:15:13.68\00:15:16.14 No doubt about it. Yes. That's right. 00:15:16.17\00:15:17.58 And we've a message to do and we've even told 00:15:17.61\00:15:19.81 that the health message will continue to move forward. 00:15:19.84\00:15:23.12 Yes. That's right. And that's what we're seeing. 00:15:23.15\00:15:24.52 People are very interested in their health. 00:15:24.55\00:15:26.57 And I'm surprised by the questions I get about 00:15:26.60\00:15:30.14 how misinformed people are about all sorts of things. 00:15:30.17\00:15:33.16 Right. Now the 3ABN audience does very good. 00:15:33.19\00:15:35.50 Yes. But other people are really--Yeah. 00:15:35.53\00:15:37.91 Shall I say, clueless? Yes. Yeah. 00:15:37.94\00:15:39.48 Through their bodies and how they should feel 00:15:39.51\00:15:41.40 and all these things and one thing 00:15:41.43\00:15:43.50 that we've been learning recently is you know, 00:15:43.53\00:15:45.97 everyone knows, you know, what makes up health. 00:15:46.00\00:15:47.84 You know, your genetics-- Sure. 00:15:47.87\00:15:49.24 They say it makes about 20%, 00:15:49.27\00:15:50.86 the food you eat, that's very helpful. 00:15:50.89\00:15:53.25 The bad food helps, you know, 00:15:53.28\00:15:55.72 I mean the bad food hurts, the good food helps. Yeah. 00:15:55.75\00:15:58.15 We also have our movement or exercise, our rest patterns, 00:15:58.18\00:16:01.96 but a large component of our health 00:16:01.99\00:16:03.94 we're just now learning is coming from our brain. Yeah. 00:16:03.97\00:16:07.07 Wow. Did you know, there are some studies out there right now 00:16:07.10\00:16:10.10 from the University of Pennsylvania that shows 00:16:10.13\00:16:12.15 the people that watch violent TV or sees violence over and over 00:16:12.18\00:16:15.97 that's as dangerous as smoking a pack of cigarettes. Wow. 00:16:16.00\00:16:19.40 So, you can help yourself a lot health wise 00:16:19.43\00:16:21.92 by having a good laugh, by being happy. Amen. 00:16:21.95\00:16:24.88 By not living in fear. Right. 00:16:24.91\00:16:27.28 You know, so there's a balance. Yes. 00:16:27.31\00:16:28.87 And you know, and I had a guy that came 00:16:28.90\00:16:31.43 in the other day, you know, he was all stressed out 00:16:31.46\00:16:33.86 about some of the food he was eating. 00:16:33.89\00:16:35.49 You know, he'd had his bypass surgery. Right. 00:16:35.52\00:16:37.00 I said, "Listen, you know, you get most of the benefits by, 00:16:37.03\00:16:39.91 you know, try not to eat big at night, 00:16:39.94\00:16:41.63 eating fresh fruits and vegetables, 00:16:41.66\00:16:43.28 and drink enough water." 00:16:43.31\00:16:45.96 I said, sometimes this fear and this negativity 00:16:45.99\00:16:48.83 that you get by not eating what you want, 00:16:48.86\00:16:50.57 sometimes it's better just to have a little happy food, 00:16:50.60\00:16:52.76 but as little as you can to be happy. Right. 00:16:52.79\00:16:55.00 Because they're walking on around, all angry and mad 00:16:55.03\00:16:57.60 because you can't have, you know, this or that. 00:16:57.63\00:16:59.46 Sometimes that's not good either. Yeah. 00:16:59.49\00:17:01.29 And let the Lord take you there in His time. 00:17:01.32\00:17:03.56 So we're learning that the mind, 00:17:03.59\00:17:05.90 the mind has a very powerful role in healing. Right. 00:17:05.93\00:17:09.70 Both short term and permanently. Yeah. 00:17:09.73\00:17:12.41 And just think what does the devil want to control now? 00:17:12.44\00:17:15.13 He tries to control our minds. Exactly. 00:17:15.16\00:17:17.57 Through all sort--you look at the media out there 00:17:17.60\00:17:19.41 and all that computers and cell phones and games out there. 00:17:19.44\00:17:22.57 All that stuff that's going into our mind, it actually damages 00:17:22.60\00:17:25.77 the stress part of our mind. 00:17:25.80\00:17:27.82 You know, it damages it and turns it on 00:17:27.85\00:17:30.07 and we make all these stress chemicals 00:17:30.10\00:17:31.72 that get all over our bodies. 00:17:31.75\00:17:33.12 So really, there's a lot to be said by treating the mind too. 00:17:33.15\00:17:36.55 Yeah. Yeah. You know, its interesting Jim 00:17:36.58\00:17:38.65 that Irma and I were walking through the story the other day. 00:17:38.68\00:17:41.57 Looking at some of the stuff that most of the games now, 00:17:41.60\00:17:43.97 the Xbox stuff and they're all violent. 00:17:44.00\00:17:46.90 Oh, yeah. I mean, its all violence, shooting 00:17:46.93\00:17:49.01 and blowing up, and bombs and guns. 00:17:49.04\00:17:50.62 So children, young people, teenagers, 00:17:50.65\00:17:53.21 young adults are been fed this steady diet 00:17:53.24\00:17:55.86 of absolute violence. 00:17:55.89\00:17:58.05 If you have an attack or someone said something that bothers you, 00:17:58.08\00:18:01.36 your redress is to punch him or hit him 00:18:01.39\00:18:05.03 or blow him up or shoot him or do something. 00:18:05.06\00:18:06.65 It's violence, begetting violence, begetting-- 00:18:06.68\00:18:09.10 so we're raising a generation of people 00:18:09.13\00:18:10.85 who know nothing but-- if somebody does something 00:18:10.88\00:18:13.21 you don't like, attack him because 00:18:13.24\00:18:14.61 that's how you solve your problems. 00:18:14.64\00:18:16.01 And that's how they're programmed. Yeah. 00:18:16.04\00:18:17.41 And it's scary. So that's why I'm glad 00:18:17.44\00:18:19.06 that we're creating programming to deal with our youngsters 00:18:19.09\00:18:22.48 that are growing up, it's the next generation. 00:18:22.51\00:18:24.50 That is really unfair for them when you see 00:18:24.53\00:18:26.68 what they put in their minds, 00:18:26.71\00:18:28.08 how they can ever function and do well. 00:18:28.11\00:18:29.58 And we wonder why they're sick at young ages 00:18:29.61\00:18:32.18 and have all these diseases. 00:18:32.21\00:18:33.58 I am seeing patients in my office 00:18:33.61\00:18:35.28 that are having bypass surgeries in their 30s and 40s now. Wow. 00:18:35.31\00:18:39.34 Wow. 30s and 40s now because of all the stress. 00:18:39.37\00:18:42.94 Anything that we do, that sort of lives contrary 00:18:42.97\00:18:45.34 to God's plan, puts stress on our bodies. 00:18:45.37\00:18:48.17 And that stress over prolonged period of time causes 00:18:48.20\00:18:51.28 these chemical reactions, it turns on 00:18:51.31\00:18:52.99 bad genetics and damages us. 00:18:53.02\00:18:54.88 The brain is a big part of it. 00:18:54.91\00:18:56.54 Yes, yes, yes. Wow. 00:18:56.57\00:18:58.02 You wouldn't think that stress has that-- 00:18:58.05\00:19:00.10 I think that's may be kind of a new area of study--Yes. 00:19:00.13\00:19:03.18 That stress more than putting weight on you, 00:19:03.21\00:19:05.26 shorting your lifestyle. 00:19:05.29\00:19:07.97 Every time I talk to you I hear a stress is this hidden devil 00:19:08.00\00:19:11.69 that's doing so much damage to our bodies. 00:19:11.72\00:19:13.74 Well, you know we talked about brain stress 00:19:13.77\00:19:15.66 but think about things fear, that's a stressor 00:19:15.69\00:19:18.65 we weren't made to live with. No. 00:19:18.68\00:19:20.40 Being selfish, we weren't made to be selfish. 00:19:20.43\00:19:23.10 Wow. We were made to have 00:19:23.13\00:19:24.50 a relationship with your creator. 00:19:24.53\00:19:26.30 And when we do these things, it helps our chemistry. 00:19:26.33\00:19:29.03 You know, when I love you up or when I serve you, 00:19:29.06\00:19:32.35 when I worship, that makes good things 00:19:32.38\00:19:35.31 chemically happen in my body. Wow. 00:19:35.34\00:19:37.15 Yeah. And when I don't do the good things, 00:19:37.18\00:19:38.65 that makes bad things happen in my body. Yeah. 00:19:38.68\00:19:41.57 Isn't that interesting you know. 00:19:41.60\00:19:42.97 Yeah, it is. Yeah, I got to ask you real quick, man, 00:19:43.00\00:19:44.47 because when you were with us at 3ABN some months ago, 00:19:44.50\00:19:48.31 we realized that your calling, one of your callings 00:19:48.34\00:19:51.20 you've several, was to take this message to a wider audience, 00:19:51.23\00:19:54.32 sort of out of the Adventist bubble. Yes. 00:19:54.35\00:19:56.12 And to an audience really that is skeptical 00:19:56.15\00:19:58.12 or doesn't know the Lord 00:19:58.15\00:19:59.52 or has a partial relationship with the Lord. 00:19:59.55\00:20:00.92 But you were called to take this message out. 00:20:00.95\00:20:02.99 What has been their response 00:20:03.02\00:20:04.71 and you know, how you've been receive? 00:20:04.74\00:20:06.49 Well, a couple things that's helped me is one is that 00:20:06.52\00:20:09.68 I have had publishers of my books, one is Tyndale. 00:20:09.71\00:20:12.97 And they are very well accepted across lines. 00:20:13.00\00:20:15.39 They always challenge you with is this scientific? 00:20:15.42\00:20:18.58 But luckily, now we having science 00:20:18.61\00:20:21.09 that proves everything that God says is true. Oh, yeah. 00:20:21.12\00:20:23.84 We've studies that show that 00:20:23.87\00:20:25.31 people that rest better, feel better. 00:20:25.34\00:20:27.57 People that serve each other, fight infections better. 00:20:27.60\00:20:30.45 People that laugh, do better. 00:20:30.48\00:20:32.96 People that have love in their life, 00:20:32.99\00:20:34.63 conversely people that don't do 00:20:34.66\00:20:36.27 those things have negative chemistry. 00:20:36.30\00:20:38.00 We've proven that. 00:20:38.03\00:20:39.84 Next year, I'm coming out with a book 00:20:39.87\00:20:41.76 that's probably gonna get me in a little bit of trouble 00:20:41.79\00:20:43.97 and I'll preview it here first tonight. 00:20:44.00\00:20:46.35 It's called "Medicines that Kill." Yeah. 00:20:46.38\00:20:50.92 And in that book-- it's gonna be released 00:20:50.95\00:20:52.45 in February by Tyndale, nationwide. 00:20:52.48\00:20:54.36 And in that book for the first time ever 00:20:54.39\00:20:57.34 I detailed how medications at all levels, 00:20:57.37\00:21:01.20 their mistakes, how people take them, 00:21:01.23\00:21:03.62 their allergic reaction is the number one killer 00:21:03.65\00:21:06.37 in America right now. Wow. 00:21:06.40\00:21:08.20 I don't know if people are gonna be ready to hear that. 00:21:08.23\00:21:10.69 And that there's a very important place for medicines, 00:21:10.72\00:21:13.59 but they have to be used correctly. 00:21:13.62\00:21:15.89 Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger, Whitney Houston 00:21:15.92\00:21:19.53 all the people that don't take their medicines correctly 00:21:19.56\00:21:21.96 that have allergic reactions that on many medicines 00:21:21.99\00:21:25.01 that just numb their senses and they have car accidents. 00:21:25.04\00:21:28.20 The medicines that hurt babies. 00:21:28.23\00:21:30.10 All of those are gonna be revealed in this book. 00:21:30.13\00:21:32.56 But it's a great way, 00:21:32.59\00:21:33.96 not only do I reveal the problem, 00:21:33.99\00:21:35.36 but in the second half of the book 00:21:35.39\00:21:36.76 we talk about the solutions. 00:21:36.79\00:21:38.59 Amen. How to get off medicines. 00:21:38.62\00:21:40.16 The place for them. 00:21:40.19\00:21:41.56 And I think this is another way 00:21:41.59\00:21:42.96 to get people interested in the biblical plan 00:21:42.99\00:21:45.88 that how God wants to heal us ultimately. 00:21:45.91\00:21:48.87 Wow. Well, that's gonna be a real interesting book. 00:21:48.90\00:21:51.55 And I think that you will have some-- 00:21:51.58\00:21:55.23 there will be controversy. Yes. 00:21:55.26\00:21:56.87 And sometimes a little bit of controversy 00:21:56.90\00:21:58.62 gets people thinking. 00:21:58.65\00:22:00.02 Yeah. You know. Right. 00:22:00.05\00:22:01.69 250 years ago, if you didn't put a leach on somebody 00:22:01.72\00:22:04.87 for an infection, you were considered a bad doctor. 00:22:04.90\00:22:06.63 Right. Yes. 00:22:06.66\00:22:08.03 In the 30s, if you didn't prescribe cigarettes for asthma, 00:22:08.06\00:22:10.40 you were bad doctor. Right. 00:22:10.43\00:22:12.03 When they look back on this stage of history, 00:22:12.06\00:22:15.18 they're gonna say, "What were these guys thinking?" 00:22:15.21\00:22:17.69 Yeah, Just like we did years ago. Yeah. 00:22:17.72\00:22:19.92 And the only real truth 00:22:19.95\00:22:21.32 that I can find out there is this Bible. 00:22:21.35\00:22:24.34 This Bible, that leads us 00:22:24.37\00:22:26.03 to what we should be doing and what we shouldn't. 00:22:26.06\00:22:27.85 And I think modern medicine is great for acute problems. 00:22:27.88\00:22:31.05 Right. It's a great place to start. 00:22:31.08\00:22:32.45 But now things have got out of control a little bit. 00:22:32.48\00:22:35.32 And now I'm trying to guide people back into that balance. 00:22:35.35\00:22:38.55 And it gets out of control both ways. Yes, yes, yes, yes. 00:22:38.58\00:22:40.90 How does the medical field relate to that type of concept? 00:22:40.93\00:22:45.01 Your fellow doctors, 00:22:45.04\00:22:46.96 say in the practice where you are. 00:22:46.99\00:22:48.50 Well, you know, luckily for me, 00:22:48.53\00:22:49.94 luckily for me I can back up what I say with science. 00:22:49.97\00:22:53.16 Praise God. Okay. 00:22:53.19\00:22:54.56 And when you can back it up with science 00:22:54.59\00:22:56.12 and good patient results, good outcomes-- 00:22:56.15\00:22:59.05 Right. This has proven itself it works. 00:22:59.08\00:23:01.38 Okay. So, so far it's been okay. Okay. 00:23:01.41\00:23:04.93 But occasionally someone will say, 00:23:04.96\00:23:07.18 "Well, how does-- how does being happy, you know, 00:23:07.21\00:23:10.18 how does being happy lower my blood pressure?" 00:23:10.21\00:23:12.50 Yeah. You know or how can this happen? 00:23:12.53\00:23:14.56 Or how can if I have a day of rest 00:23:14.59\00:23:16.80 that really help my body out or if I drink enough water? 00:23:16.83\00:23:20.36 And then we just go through how it helps 00:23:20.39\00:23:23.11 and once people understand the science behind it, 00:23:23.14\00:23:25.58 they embrace it freely. 00:23:25.61\00:23:27.64 Yes. Praise God. Okay. 00:23:27.67\00:23:29.04 But some people, "Oh, no, I'm never gonna believe it." 00:23:29.07\00:23:31.95 But luckily around here, you know, 00:23:31.98\00:23:33.35 when the Bible Belt in the Greater Chattanooga area. 00:23:33.38\00:23:35.87 So, it's pretty well accepted here. 00:23:35.90\00:23:37.53 But when I go in some places you know, 00:23:37.56\00:23:39.22 they think you know it's a little quaky. Yeah. 00:23:39.25\00:23:41.92 But you know, in Christ time, when He was healing. Oh, yes. 00:23:41.95\00:23:44.69 You know, everyone you know has something to say. 00:23:44.72\00:23:47.30 There's always an opinion both good and bad. 00:23:47.33\00:23:49.55 And I'm sure you guys get the same thing too. 00:23:49.58\00:23:52.17 We do. And, it's amazing some of the mail that we get. 00:23:52.20\00:23:57.26 I'm just excited about what we'll get next week 00:23:57.29\00:24:00.61 because people will watch this program. 00:24:00.64\00:24:03.11 And here sometimes the same thing 00:24:03.14\00:24:06.54 and come to two different conclusions. 00:24:06.57\00:24:09.59 You were for this, you were against this. 00:24:09.62\00:24:11.92 Its amazing how many times that happens. 00:24:11.95\00:24:14.85 Do us then this favor. 00:24:14.88\00:24:16.25 Not that we're dismissing you now, 00:24:16.28\00:24:17.65 but do us then this favor. 00:24:17.68\00:24:19.29 When that book comes out come and see us 00:24:19.32\00:24:21.35 so, let's talk about it. Yes. 00:24:21.38\00:24:22.75 And you know, 3ABN has this book right now. 00:24:22.78\00:24:24.51 Oh, yes. Yeah. 00:24:24.54\00:24:25.91 And it's moving through 3ABN well 00:24:25.94\00:24:28.09 and I'm glad to see that people are reading it 00:24:28.12\00:24:31.06 and giving it a chance to read about "Ultimate Prescription." 00:24:31.09\00:24:33.35 It is selling greatly amongst 00:24:33.38\00:24:36.59 non Christian believers right now. 00:24:36.62\00:24:38.11 That's what I'm glad to hear. Yeah. 00:24:38.14\00:24:39.51 Because they want to say, "Hey, listen, 00:24:39.54\00:24:40.94 we know that something out there is not quite right." 00:24:40.97\00:24:43.60 So the non Christians are getting this book 00:24:43.63\00:24:46.14 and I'm getting lots of emails from them 00:24:46.17\00:24:47.74 they said, "Listen, 00:24:47.77\00:24:49.14 I didn't realize that the Bible actually had health principles 00:24:49.17\00:24:52.19 that could help get me off medicines 00:24:52.22\00:24:53.79 or make me feel better." Yeah. Right. 00:24:53.82\00:24:55.28 And it really helps those who have terminal disease too. 00:24:55.31\00:24:57.96 They said, "I didn't realize that 00:24:57.99\00:24:59.36 the Bible had treatments for me at the end of my life." 00:24:59.39\00:25:01.89 Right. And it does. It does. 00:25:01.92\00:25:03.90 So I like to say this, doctors are great at treating symptoms-- 00:25:03.93\00:25:07.53 Yeah. We're great at managing risks. 00:25:07.56\00:25:09.68 Yeah. But all of us are healers. That's right. 00:25:09.71\00:25:12.20 In the way we serve, 00:25:12.23\00:25:13.60 the way we love each other 00:25:13.63\00:25:15.00 and the way we bring each person to the ultimate healing force, 00:25:15.03\00:25:18.49 the ultimate treatment. Right. 00:25:18.52\00:25:19.91 And wouldn't it be great to go to a doctor, 00:25:19.94\00:25:22.10 you didn't have to wait in line, 00:25:22.13\00:25:23.77 he would listen all day long to you, 00:25:23.80\00:25:25.95 he give you the best treatment, 00:25:25.98\00:25:27.64 then you could go and mess up and do everything wrong, 00:25:27.67\00:25:29.88 eat all the right foods, 00:25:29.91\00:25:31.28 do everything wrong and you come back to him tomorrow 00:25:31.31\00:25:32.86 and he'd love you and treat you 00:25:32.89\00:25:34.26 and make you well the next day? 00:25:34.29\00:25:35.66 Yeah. Well, we have that. 00:25:35.69\00:25:37.06 Yeah. Indeed. Show that book. 00:25:37.09\00:25:38.97 Hold it up to the camera right there 00:25:39.00\00:25:41.30 and if you don't have it, you can get it-- 00:25:41.33\00:25:44.44 they can get it from us. Yeah. 00:25:44.47\00:25:46.31 They can get it from where else? 00:25:46.34\00:25:48.25 It's at book stores all over America 00:25:48.28\00:25:50.19 Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com, 00:25:50.22\00:25:52.20 but we want you to get it from 3ABN. Yeah. 00:25:52.23\00:25:54.43 Because when they get it from 3ABN, 00:25:54.46\00:25:56.13 part of the proceeds of that book 00:25:56.16\00:25:57.68 goes to help buy these cameras. 00:25:57.71\00:25:59.68 Amen. That's' right. Yeah. 00:25:59.71\00:26:01.08 And I know how expensive this is. 00:26:01.11\00:26:02.48 And this is true evangelism, reaching the entire world. 00:26:02.51\00:26:05.49 It does. And when you don't have a lot-- 00:26:05.52\00:26:07.12 when we don't have a lot of time to get this message out. 00:26:07.15\00:26:09.20 We never know what's gonna happen. Yeah. 00:26:09.23\00:26:11.21 So we got to keep pressing on all of us. 00:26:11.24\00:26:13.00 Yeah. Amen. 00:26:13.03\00:26:14.40 Get it from 3ABN because it does help us with the work. 00:26:14.43\00:26:16.02 You know we prayed when this book came out 00:26:16.05\00:26:19.63 that it would go to the wider community. 00:26:19.66\00:26:21.34 Because we sort of saw you as a Paul, 00:26:21.37\00:26:23.25 you know, to the Gentile. 00:26:23.28\00:26:25.59 Adventist have a fairly decent handle on health, 00:26:25.62\00:26:28.58 health evangelism and the bad effects of bad choices. 00:26:28.61\00:26:32.08 Whether we do it or not 00:26:32.11\00:26:33.48 is different story over the talk show, 00:26:33.51\00:26:34.88 but we know the wider community simple doesn't know. 00:26:34.91\00:26:38.20 And until they know they cannot do. 00:26:38.23\00:26:41.22 So, we-- our prayer was that 00:26:41.25\00:26:42.62 this would circulate in the Adventist circles, 00:26:42.65\00:26:44.39 but go beyond the Adventist circles and to hear that, 00:26:44.42\00:26:46.69 that is happening is an answer to prayer. 00:26:46.72\00:26:48.48 We're quite pleased about that. 00:26:48.51\00:26:49.88 And it's been a great tool for evangelism. Yes. 00:26:49.91\00:26:52.09 You know, if you give it to a friend 00:26:52.12\00:26:53.67 you know, it doesn't-- you hit him over the head 00:26:53.70\00:26:55.07 and say, "Listen, I want you to learn how to feel better. 00:26:55.10\00:26:57.38 I want you to help to find ultimate healing. 00:26:57.41\00:26:59.17 Why don't you just read this book 00:26:59.20\00:27:00.57 and ask me some questions when you finish?" Yeah. 00:27:00.60\00:27:03.10 And there are lot of people been giving it to their friends. 00:27:03.13\00:27:04.65 Doctor, we certainly appreciate your coming. 00:27:04.68\00:27:07.53 And did you see Doug Batchelor back there when you came in? 00:27:07.56\00:27:09.72 No, I didn't, but I am sure he's right behind us. 00:27:09.75\00:27:12.21 I'm sure he's right there. 00:27:12.24\00:27:14.09 And if he doesn't you need me to come out, 00:27:14.12\00:27:15.49 I'll run back out, okay. 00:27:15.52\00:27:16.89 Okay. Thank you. Thank you so much for coming. 00:27:16.92\00:27:19.29 God bless. We'll see you then. Okay. 00:27:19.32\00:27:21.20 Well, while Doug is coming, 00:27:21.23\00:27:22.60 you want to read this last little section down here-- 00:27:22.63\00:27:24.00 Yeah, let me read this. This is the good stuff. 00:27:24.03\00:27:25.40 It says, the last phrase, it says, "Keep about your work. 00:27:25.43\00:27:29.09 Let your aim be as steady as a star. 00:27:29.12\00:27:32.50 Let the world brawl and bubble. 00:27:32.53\00:27:37.98 You may be assaulted, wronged, insulted, 00:27:38.01\00:27:41.50 slandered, wounded and rejected. 00:27:41.53\00:27:44.82 You may be abused by friends 00:27:44.85\00:27:46.54 and despised and rejected of men, 00:27:46.57\00:27:49.49 but see to it with steadfast determination, 00:27:49.52\00:27:54.04 with unfaltering zeal, 00:27:54.07\00:27:56.41 that you pursue the great purpose of your life 00:27:56.44\00:27:59.82 and object of your being until at last you can say, 00:27:59.85\00:28:04.81 'I have finished the work, which Thou gavest me to do.'" 00:28:04.84\00:28:11.04 Powerful, powerful stuff. Yeah. 00:29:22.16\00:29:25.08 And lived as a street person. So he understands them. 00:29:25.11\00:29:30.62 He has an understanding of young people that is unique. Yes. 00:29:30.69\00:29:34.86 When he did the Amazing Adventure series, 00:29:34.89\00:29:38.43 it was one of the most popular series 00:29:38.46\00:29:40.17 and still is that we've ever had on 3ABN. 00:29:40.20\00:29:43.61 Then he did the MIQ series which most important question. 00:29:43.64\00:29:48.98 Yes. And he did that on an academy campus.- 00:29:49.01\00:29:50.60 He's still running that. Right. 00:29:50.63\00:29:52.23 Now, Ultimate Purpose here on a university campus. 00:29:52.26\00:29:56.92 Tonight it was just fantastic. 00:29:56.95\00:29:59.48 This place, the whole front section here 00:29:59.51\00:30:01.92 was full even test week. Yes. 00:30:01.95\00:30:04.50 I did not get a count, 00:30:04.53\00:30:06.26 but we had a ton of students here. Yeah. 00:30:06.29\00:30:09.19 And I did not know it was test week till we got on the campus. 00:30:09.22\00:30:11.65 Right. And they say, they're taken exams this week-- Exactly. 00:30:11.68\00:30:13.85 So it's hard to get young people out-- 00:30:13.88\00:30:15.25 well, this is study time. Yes. 00:30:15.28\00:30:16.65 So it's important. Absolutely. 00:30:16.68\00:30:18.07 I have a granddaughter here who is a student 00:30:18.10\00:30:20.25 and she is a straight A student 00:30:20.28\00:30:22.27 and this is one of her first test weeks here. 00:30:22.30\00:30:25.24 And I guarantee you, she was concerned about 00:30:25.27\00:30:29.79 being ready for her test tomorrow. 00:30:29.82\00:30:31.97 So in spite of that, now tomorrow night, 00:30:32.00\00:30:34.68 I don't know where we're gonna put everybody 00:30:34.71\00:30:36.20 because it will be Friday night 00:30:36.23\00:30:38.72 and this place they'll be no test 00:30:38.75\00:30:41.46 till for the next couple days. Yes. 00:30:41.49\00:30:43.21 And test will be over for a little while. 00:30:43.24\00:30:45.53 And this place is gonna be packed out tomorrow night. 00:30:45.56\00:30:47.78 So if you're in the area and you want to come, 00:30:47.81\00:30:50.15 you better get here early. I guarantee you. Yeah. 00:30:50.18\00:30:52.92 Well, Doug Batchelor, would you join us at this time? 00:30:52.95\00:30:56.14 We're just so happy to have Doug here and-- 00:30:56.17\00:30:59.33 You know, we've been talking about you 00:30:59.36\00:31:00.73 and now we can talk to you. Yeah, right. 00:31:00.76\00:31:03.96 Pastors Gilley and C. A. pleasure to be here with you. 00:31:03.99\00:31:06.71 It's just great to be with you. 00:31:06.74\00:31:08.11 I didn't know that you ran from the police, 00:31:08.14\00:31:09.55 you know, I'll have to listen to you when you speak man. 00:31:09.58\00:31:12.54 The more we listen, the more we learn. Yeah. 00:31:12.57\00:31:15.13 You know, he waited to turn on his lights. 00:31:15.16\00:31:17.31 I guess people would have to know what you're talking about. 00:31:17.34\00:31:19.87 Yeah. Right. 00:31:19.90\00:31:21.27 I was being chased by this policeman. 00:31:21.30\00:31:23.29 He was an undercover policeman. 00:31:23.32\00:31:24.69 And you didn't know at the time? 00:31:24.72\00:31:26.09 No and he wasn't in a conventional vehicle-- No. 00:31:26.12\00:31:28.50 And I'd just been driving through 00:31:28.53\00:31:29.90 some very dangerous country-- All right. 00:31:29.93\00:31:31.85 And when someone started following me I thought, 00:31:31.88\00:31:33.98 they're following me. Oh, boy. 00:31:34.01\00:31:35.38 And I took off and they took off after me. Yeah. 00:31:35.41\00:31:37.63 And he didn't turn his lights off for sometime 00:31:37.66\00:31:39.27 and it was nothing less than a high speed chase 00:31:39.30\00:31:41.75 on that roads. Yeah. 00:31:41.78\00:31:43.72 At night. Yeah. 00:31:43.75\00:31:45.12 It's pretty scary and then when he didn't turn on his lights 00:31:45.15\00:31:47.07 and I pulled over, I realized he comes out 00:31:47.10\00:31:48.90 all with his gun drawn-- Oh, yeah. 00:31:48.93\00:31:50.30 Hands on the steering wheel. 00:31:50.33\00:31:51.70 'Cause he didn't know who you were? No. Yeah. 00:31:51.73\00:31:53.10 But I, you know, evangelist--3150 00:31:53.13\00:31:55.21 After he took one look at you boy, 00:31:55.24\00:31:57.02 he want to get the handcuffs out. 00:31:57.05\00:32:00.91 You know, Doug, we laugh about that kind of thing, 00:32:00.94\00:32:04.75 but it's amazing how many times people will get it-- 00:32:04.78\00:32:09.60 find themselves in a situation like that 00:32:09.63\00:32:12.11 and it could be very dangerous. It really can. 00:32:12.14\00:32:14.79 And by the way your GPS was trying to get you make 00:32:14.82\00:32:17.24 a left turn which would have taken you 00:32:17.27\00:32:18.69 over a mountain, over a cliff. 00:32:18.72\00:32:21.19 You know before I even got to the cliff, 00:32:21.22\00:32:22.78 it was taking me down a logging trail 00:32:22.81\00:32:24.29 where trees were growing up through the middle. 00:32:24.32\00:32:25.69 I thought this can't be right, that should have been a clue. 00:32:25.72\00:32:29.38 You know, we have a road that runs from--is it 37 over to 149. 00:32:29.41\00:32:36.19 And Max Trevino, was coming in 00:32:36.22\00:32:37.85 late one night following his GPS, 00:32:37.88\00:32:39.89 this thing took him out through trails. 00:32:39.92\00:32:43.22 I mean, he called me and said, I can--I said, 00:32:43.25\00:32:45.77 turn around immediately if you go any further, 00:32:45.80\00:32:48.24 you would get stuck that is a horrible. 00:32:48.27\00:32:50.72 You cannot always follow your GPS, you have to question it-- 00:32:50.75\00:32:55.81 I think it was good point Doug you made 00:32:55.84\00:32:57.52 that you can always follow Christ, 00:32:57.55\00:32:58.92 you can trust Him to lead you right. 00:32:58.95\00:33:00.32 Talk to us a little bit about what motivated you 00:33:00.35\00:33:02.22 to come to this place to do this particular series. 00:33:02.25\00:33:04.36 Because you've done in a number of places 00:33:04.39\00:33:06.16 for a number of age groups 00:33:06.19\00:33:07.56 which you wanted to reach to just college age group again. 00:33:07.59\00:33:09.54 Talk to us about what the motivation was for that? 00:33:09.57\00:33:12.46 Well, it really-- 00:33:12.49\00:33:14.36 Pastor C. A. goes back to just the great commission 00:33:14.39\00:33:17.98 and we've worked together doing something for the kids, 00:33:18.01\00:33:21.49 8 to 12 was the Amazing Adventure and you mentioned 00:33:21.52\00:33:24.75 the MIQ meeting was really the teenagers. Yeah. 00:33:24.78\00:33:27.73 And I've always thought, 00:33:27.76\00:33:29.13 you know, one of the most critical groups to reach, 00:33:29.16\00:33:30.92 one of the most crucial ages is the college age, 00:33:30.95\00:33:34.92 when they're making-- you know, I went to college, 00:33:34.95\00:33:37.52 I was 25, I went late. 00:33:37.55\00:33:39.81 Because I, you know, I wasted some of those years 00:33:39.84\00:33:42.75 and I had a little different perspective 00:33:42.78\00:33:44.15 when I first got on the campus. 00:33:44.18\00:33:45.68 I knew what I wanted to do at that point. 00:33:45.71\00:33:47.77 But I saw so many young people that just were, 00:33:47.80\00:33:50.74 is there a God, you know, whom I supposed to be with, 00:33:50.77\00:33:54.14 what am I supposed to be do with my life? 00:33:54.17\00:33:55.58 They were so many questions. 00:33:55.61\00:33:57.59 I've always thought I wanted to come 00:33:57.62\00:33:59.73 and do something just like what we're doing now 00:33:59.76\00:34:02.07 to really focus on this age group 00:34:02.10\00:34:05.46 and it's not because I feel like I'm qualified because I don't. 00:34:05.49\00:34:08.28 I don't feel like I have all the answers 00:34:08.31\00:34:09.80 and that's probably why we put it off till last. 00:34:09.83\00:34:13.14 But it's just a passion I have 00:34:13.17\00:34:14.96 to try to just speak from my heart 00:34:14.99\00:34:16.51 to the college age, young people that are making decisions. 00:34:16.54\00:34:21.26 Now, tonight's subject was what is truth? 00:34:21.29\00:34:23.95 What is tomorrow night? Where did we come from? 00:34:23.98\00:34:26.83 All right and then Sabbath morning. Why is there evil? 00:34:26.86\00:34:30.71 Okay and then-- How to know God's will? 00:34:30.74\00:34:34.02 That's Saturday time. Saturday time. Okay. 00:34:34.05\00:34:37.40 Yeah, if you wanted to pick four-- Yeah. 00:34:37.43\00:34:39.99 That's four key one asked by this demographic. 00:34:40.02\00:34:44.94 What am I going to do with my life? 00:34:44.97\00:34:46.34 What's the God will? Where did I come from? 00:34:46.37\00:34:48.23 Where am I going? Why I'm I here? 00:34:48.26\00:34:49.79 What's about tomorrow? 00:34:49.82\00:34:51.66 Really four great topics, very pertinent topics. Yeah. 00:34:51.69\00:34:54.66 And so I appreciate your prayers 00:34:54.69\00:34:56.06 because again I don't feel like I have all the answers. 00:34:56.09\00:34:59.00 I mean, I know what I believe about those things. Sure. 00:34:59.03\00:35:01.82 But this is probably the most sophisticated group 00:35:01.85\00:35:07.02 and environment for these presentations 00:35:07.05\00:35:09.14 because they are all asking those questions now 00:35:09.17\00:35:12.45 and they're hearing so many voices. 00:35:12.48\00:35:13.85 You know Doug, I was studying the audience 00:35:13.88\00:35:15.93 while you were speaking, 00:35:15.96\00:35:17.33 I was listening very carefully to you as well, 00:35:17.36\00:35:19.53 but I was watching them, you had their attention. 00:35:19.56\00:35:22.50 This you felt it when-- if you even uttered something 00:35:22.53\00:35:27.04 that was a little humorous they were right with you. 00:35:27.07\00:35:30.60 But they were watching 00:35:30.63\00:35:32.18 and you know, there's always the kid 00:35:32.21\00:35:35.71 that maybe stayed up too late the night before 00:35:35.74\00:35:37.93 and they're gonna--I don't care what audience you're in, 00:35:37.96\00:35:40.53 you're gonna find a few of those. 00:35:40.56\00:35:42.24 But I saw very few. For the most part, they were riveted, 00:35:42.27\00:35:47.88 the ones that wanted to be here were here 00:35:47.91\00:35:50.69 and the ones that are seeking answers were listening. 00:35:50.72\00:35:54.94 And on top of that of course you had the television audience 00:35:54.97\00:35:58.65 which around the world, we believe a lot, 00:35:58.68\00:36:02.06 we know, sometimes people ask us, 00:36:02.09\00:36:05.47 why don't you just ask 3ABN, you just preach with the choir. 00:36:05.50\00:36:09.41 Now our studies have shown us 00:36:09.44\00:36:11.04 that our audience is only 3/10th of 1% Seventh-day Adventist. 00:36:11.07\00:36:18.60 The rest of our audience are not members of our group. 00:36:18.63\00:36:23.43 And that's shocking to people but they don't realize 00:36:23.46\00:36:26.48 that we're on 1200 cable outlets in North America. 00:36:26.51\00:36:29.85 We're on 150 stations that are downlink stations 00:36:29.88\00:36:33.78 and you know how effective those are 00:36:33.81\00:36:36.22 because you one right there in Sacramento. 00:36:36.25\00:36:39.56 And the one in Las Vegas, they baptize a 100 people 00:36:39.59\00:36:42.78 a year off of that particular station there. 00:36:42.81\00:36:46.07 Tyler, Texas, they get a whole bunch off of that one. 00:36:46.10\00:36:49.78 So we know where they report to us what they're doing, 00:36:49.81\00:36:53.52 how effective those stations are? 00:36:53.55\00:36:55.96 And then nine satellites around the world 00:36:55.99\00:36:58.88 and in so many places around the world, 00:36:58.91\00:37:01.37 they have free to air. 00:37:01.40\00:37:02.77 Everybody can get the satellite, 00:37:02.80\00:37:04.71 they don't just not like around here. 00:37:04.74\00:37:08.22 So they're able to pick them up. 00:37:08.25\00:37:10.61 Either their cable picks them up or everybody has a dish 00:37:10.64\00:37:15.32 and picks up the major-- 00:37:15.35\00:37:17.90 just like you get direct TV and dish here, 00:37:17.93\00:37:20.45 well, they get it there but they get it free. 00:37:20.48\00:37:22.47 So we're on those satellites 00:37:22.50\00:37:25.05 and people are watching around the world. 00:37:25.08\00:37:27.86 So tonight there was no telling how many individuals 00:37:27.89\00:37:31.84 were watching as you presented that message. 00:37:31.87\00:37:35.21 And I thought it was powerful, 00:37:35.24\00:37:36.61 when you brought those two young people up that was fantastic. 00:37:36.64\00:37:40.23 It was really good. 00:37:40.26\00:37:43.38 Surely I don't think you staged that, 00:37:43.41\00:37:45.38 you may have but I don't think so. 00:37:45.41\00:37:47.21 Well, I--they didn't know, they were coming up 00:37:47.24\00:37:49.49 and I didn't know until that moment 00:37:49.52\00:37:50.89 who we're gonna call on so. 00:37:50.92\00:37:52.30 Yeah, I think if you had, 00:37:52.33\00:37:53.70 you'd have asked that guy to wear some pants. 00:37:53.73\00:37:55.10 But anyway, they were great. 00:37:55.13\00:37:59.60 Those young people were just fabulous. 00:37:59.63\00:38:01.00 It was a great illustration, it really was. Yeah. 00:38:01.03\00:38:02.48 Now you're husband of own wife, you have how many children? 00:38:02.51\00:38:05.66 Well, we had six, we lost one, so we have five children. 00:38:05.69\00:38:09.31 One is college age, they range from 16 is the youngest, 00:38:09.34\00:38:13.89 I just started driving so stay off the sidewalk. Yeah. 00:38:13.92\00:38:16.91 See my point is that, 00:38:16.94\00:38:18.31 this stuff is not experimental or theoretical for you. 00:38:18.34\00:38:21.04 This is stuff you're living at your house everyday, 00:38:21.07\00:38:22.93 as far as trying to train and teach 00:38:22.96\00:38:25.51 and encourage this age demographic. 00:38:25.54\00:38:27.43 This is the stuff that you'd deal with all the time, 00:38:27.46\00:38:29.12 it's not theory for you. Right. 00:38:29.15\00:38:30.58 Now we've-- we've had the-- 00:38:30.61\00:38:31.98 the bulk of them are actually older now 00:38:32.01\00:38:33.91 and they got children of their own. 00:38:33.94\00:38:35.31 I've got six grandchildren 00:38:35.34\00:38:37.04 and so I remember when they were in this age group-- Yes. 00:38:37.07\00:38:40.43 And just how-- it's so crucial, 00:38:40.46\00:38:46.11 there're so many things that they're evaluating, 00:38:46.14\00:38:48.93 there are so many voices. 00:38:48.96\00:38:50.33 I remember when I was at this age, 00:38:50.36\00:38:51.73 you know, you get to be 17, 18 00:38:51.76\00:38:53.59 and you start really thinking about life. 00:38:53.62\00:38:56.15 When you're out of house, 00:38:56.18\00:38:57.55 you're so excited just to be out of the house. Oh, yes. 00:38:57.58\00:38:59.31 Then you go wild for a little while. 00:38:59.34\00:39:00.71 And just say, ah, freedom, what am I gonna do with it? 00:39:00.74\00:39:02.82 And then the novelty that wears off and you think, 00:39:02.85\00:39:05.55 "Okay, I'm on my own now. 00:39:05.58\00:39:08.07 What am I gonna do with my life?" 00:39:08.10\00:39:09.82 And it can be shocking the reality of that. 00:39:09.85\00:39:12.75 And you say, "I better figure out what's going on." 00:39:12.78\00:39:14.85 Yeah, yeah. What is the purpose of life? 00:39:14.88\00:39:16.77 Yeah. And I think you know, 00:39:16.80\00:39:18.17 just because you're on a Christian campus, 00:39:18.20\00:39:20.05 it doesn't mean you're Christian. 00:39:20.08\00:39:21.45 Certainly the environment here facilitates growth in Christ. 00:39:21.48\00:39:25.70 But it doesn't guarantee that everybody 00:39:25.73\00:39:27.10 that sits in these chairs 00:39:27.13\00:39:28.50 has a working relationship with the Lord. 00:39:28.53\00:39:29.92 And programs like yours help facilitate that, 00:39:29.95\00:39:32.74 I think it's a worthwhile thing. 00:39:32.77\00:39:35.03 Yeah, we've got be careful not to take it for granted 00:39:35.06\00:39:37.09 as you said that, somehow by our osmosis 00:39:37.12\00:39:40.59 everybody is going to come to know Jesus. 00:39:40.62\00:39:43.73 I think we need to make very simple gospel presentations. 00:39:43.76\00:39:46.28 I remember Pastor Gilley, you said something 00:39:46.31\00:39:48.44 when we were doing the Amazing Adventure program. 00:39:48.47\00:39:51.06 You know, as you target even the you know 8 to 12 year olds, 00:39:51.09\00:39:56.13 it's gonna finally make sense for some adults. 00:39:56.16\00:39:58.23 Oh, and this we--you cannot imagine the number of letters 00:39:58.26\00:40:02.49 I got from individuals, who said, Jim, when you in, 00:40:02.52\00:40:06.80 and they name some of the big time evangel, even yourself. 00:40:06.83\00:40:09.61 When they present this message, 00:40:09.64\00:40:12.07 I could never really-- it never made sense for me. 00:40:12.10\00:40:15.60 But when they did it they said, 00:40:15.63\00:40:17.03 "You got to understand, we're not all theologians" 00:40:17.06\00:40:19.88 and some of us have not studied the Bible at all in our lives 00:40:19.91\00:40:23.21 and we may be 50 years old but we're not educated in this area. 00:40:23.24\00:40:27.79 So when Pastor Doug made it simple for those kids, 00:40:27.82\00:40:32.01 they said for the first time in my life, 00:40:32.04\00:40:34.21 "I understood what they were talking about." 00:40:34.24\00:40:37.82 So adults are getting it and God has given you 00:40:37.85\00:40:42.16 a gift of looking--going beyond these generations. 00:40:42.19\00:40:46.63 You're able to talk and people who are older, 00:40:46.66\00:40:49.64 love you and they support your ministry and so do the kids. 00:40:49.67\00:40:53.79 And I mentioned it when we were introducing you 00:40:53.82\00:40:57.97 tonight on the program. 00:40:58.00\00:40:59.98 A lady came to me just this last week. 00:41:00.01\00:41:02.44 I was in Summerville which is just out of Charleston. 00:41:02.47\00:41:06.20 And she said, you know, 00:41:06.23\00:41:08.07 "when I read that book "Richest Caveman." 00:41:08.10\00:41:12.20 She said, "that book changed my life", 00:41:12.23\00:41:15.32 she said, "that is the most interesting book 00:41:15.35\00:41:18.55 I've ever read," she says, "I read a lot." 00:41:18.58\00:41:21.26 But said, "that book, I could not put that book down." 00:41:21.29\00:41:25.20 And it helped me to have 00:41:25.23\00:41:27.35 a real relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:41:27.38\00:41:30.17 And I know that early on my youngest daughter, 00:41:30.20\00:41:35.01 mentioned that to me that she had read that 00:41:35.04\00:41:37.84 as like a kid in school and-- what an impact that had on her. 00:41:37.87\00:41:43.45 So sharing that experience, might even be that, 00:41:43.48\00:41:47.96 you may need to come out with the new edition of that 00:41:47.99\00:41:49.92 or something and talk about the very-- 00:41:49.95\00:41:53.91 the very richest caveman or something like that. 00:41:53.94\00:41:56.89 But maybe you update some of the chapters in what God has done. 00:41:56.92\00:42:02.04 But that book has impacted a lot of people's lifestyle. 00:42:02.07\00:42:05.56 Let me ask you few question and Doug, 00:42:05.59\00:42:06.96 at the risk of embarrassing you 00:42:06.99\00:42:09.25 because self evaluation is always gonna difficult. 00:42:09.28\00:42:11.76 Over and over we've heard, 00:42:11.79\00:42:13.95 people have come to 3ABN and come to the church, 00:42:13.98\00:42:16.92 there maybe three or four names that they will tout 00:42:16.95\00:42:19.98 as having made it so clear to them 00:42:20.01\00:42:22.43 or making the message so compelling to them 00:42:22.46\00:42:24.55 that they really could not resist it. 00:42:24.58\00:42:26.21 Invariably, one of those three or four names is your name. 00:42:26.24\00:42:28.64 That's right. 00:42:28.67\00:42:30.04 You seem to have this gift, given to you by God 00:42:30.07\00:42:31.99 to make things very plain, very simple, 00:42:32.02\00:42:34.40 cross-generationally accessible. 00:42:34.43\00:42:37.58 When you began to construct your ministry, 00:42:37.61\00:42:39.91 was it something you purposefully chose to do, 00:42:39.94\00:42:42.85 did you just fall into that, did you ask the Lord for that gift 00:42:42.88\00:42:45.61 because I think, Jim, will agree. Yeah. 00:42:45.64\00:42:47.35 They are two or three, four names 00:42:47.38\00:42:48.76 and your name is always one of them. 00:42:48.79\00:42:50.16 God has given you that gift. 00:42:50.19\00:42:51.56 Was it something you tried to do 00:42:51.59\00:42:52.96 or you just fell into that or it was easy for you to do? 00:42:52.99\00:42:57.57 You know, I don't know-- 00:42:57.60\00:42:58.97 I've never really thought about strategically, 00:42:59.00\00:43:01.56 about how did that happen? 00:43:01.59\00:43:03.98 I would just say, I just thank the Lord that, 00:43:04.01\00:43:06.80 I had the mother I had. 00:43:06.83\00:43:08.50 Now not everything I learnt from my mother 00:43:08.53\00:43:11.00 I could teach in church. 00:43:11.03\00:43:13.11 But my mother was a very lucid communicator and I just grew up. 00:43:13.14\00:43:18.91 She always said way in the simplest terms 00:43:18.94\00:43:21.28 what she was thinking, but she could be profound, 00:43:21.31\00:43:24.37 you know, she could write some profound things, 00:43:24.40\00:43:26.20 but she could also make it really simple 00:43:26.23\00:43:27.60 and so I just thank the Lord for the family I had. 00:43:27.63\00:43:30.86 And, mother and father, my dad was very direct 00:43:30.89\00:43:34.07 and my mom was more of a poet and a lyricist so, I don't know. 00:43:34.10\00:43:38.89 Yeah. I just thank the Lord, people understand, 00:43:38.92\00:43:40.41 I'm amazed, they do. 00:43:40.44\00:43:41.81 Yeah, the word out of the street is when Doug's done you know it. 00:43:41.84\00:43:44.48 And that's true. Praise the Lord. Yeah. 00:43:44.51\00:43:46.62 I just--it's been a privilege for me 00:43:46.65\00:43:48.24 to be involved in ministry 00:43:48.27\00:43:50.22 and I really appreciate it our working together. 00:43:50.25\00:43:53.25 I was watching in one of the net 99 programs this last week 00:43:53.28\00:43:56.84 and they took an audience shot and there you were. 00:43:56.87\00:43:58.93 I stopped it, actually I stopped it, 00:43:58.96\00:44:00.56 I have the DVR thing so I could stop it and he said, 00:44:00.59\00:44:02.75 "hi, C. A." We were there. 00:44:02.78\00:44:04.15 We both had more hair back then. 00:44:04.18\00:44:06.05 Yeah, 99 we did. 00:44:06.08\00:44:09.88 I remember those meetings very well in New York City. 00:44:09.91\00:44:12.17 Well, I can tell you the names of the individuals 00:44:12.20\00:44:14.44 that we hear about yours, Lyle Albrecht, 00:44:14.47\00:44:18.79 David Asscherick and Kenneth Cox. 00:44:18.82\00:44:21.44 These are the four that I hear more than any others. 00:44:21.47\00:44:25.38 With in always the ones 00:44:25.41\00:44:27.51 who're presenting the message, the full message. 00:44:27.54\00:44:31.88 And sometimes we get the idea 00:44:31.91\00:44:36.27 that people want to hear other things 00:44:36.30\00:44:39.47 and some of the theological stuffs 00:44:39.50\00:44:42.82 that come long that they want to get involved with that. 00:44:42.85\00:44:47.03 We find that they want to hear is the Sabbath, 00:44:47.06\00:44:49.69 the State of the Dead and our basic beliefs explained 00:44:49.72\00:44:55.21 and these are the most popular programs that we have, 00:44:55.24\00:44:58.82 even though we have lots of programs on 3ABN. 00:44:58.85\00:45:03.18 But you know, the amazing thing, 00:45:03.21\00:45:04.58 I remember when you began to preach 00:45:04.61\00:45:06.48 and I think a fellow by name of Miller, 00:45:06.51\00:45:09.29 Cyril Miller had faith in you. 00:45:09.32\00:45:11.54 Cyril has not been well lately. 00:45:11.57\00:45:13.29 He's very sick, been in the hospital, 00:45:13.32\00:45:16.28 they've moved him down to a convalescent hospital, 00:45:16.31\00:45:20.14 but he's struggling to hold on. 00:45:20.17\00:45:22.17 His mind is still sharp and his ideas are still right there. 00:45:22.20\00:45:26.86 And I know I have appreciated his ministry so much. 00:45:26.89\00:45:31.79 And he has had a lot to do with putting your name in at times 00:45:31.82\00:45:39.65 in the right place and the right time 00:45:39.68\00:45:41.31 by saying good things about Doug Batchelor. 00:45:41.34\00:45:44.09 Well, of course, Cyril Miller also most people 00:45:44.12\00:45:46.96 when they think of Amazing Facts they think well, 00:45:46.99\00:45:48.67 Joe Crews founded Amazing Facts. 00:45:48.70\00:45:51.54 But it was really Cyril Miller and Bill May, 00:45:51.57\00:45:54.28 that got together and they called Joe Crews, 00:45:54.31\00:45:56.26 so we've got a crazy idea. And he turned it down at first. 00:45:56.29\00:45:58.61 First time he thought that was a harebrain idea. 00:45:58.64\00:46:00.64 He said, you got so crazy. 00:46:00.67\00:46:03.06 But they talked him into it 00:46:03.09\00:46:05.38 and then Joe threw his life into it 00:46:05.41\00:46:08.69 and when Joe was there the Amazing Facts 00:46:08.72\00:46:12.60 became partners with Danny Shelton and 3ABN. 00:46:12.63\00:46:16.11 And then that partnership has increased 00:46:16.14\00:46:20.59 since you became a partner of Amazing Facts. 00:46:20.62\00:46:24.01 But how long you've been there now? 00:46:24.04\00:46:26.85 This year is 18 years. 18 years. 00:46:26.88\00:46:29.14 In November it's 18 years. Wow, praise God. 00:46:29.17\00:46:31.79 You know, you mentioned us again tonight that, 00:46:31.82\00:46:34.05 you came from fairly comfortable beginnings and background. 00:46:34.08\00:46:38.44 But that Amazing Facts stands on its own. 00:46:38.47\00:46:40.59 It didn't rise up 00:46:40.62\00:46:41.99 because Doug Batchelor threw a lot of cash into it. 00:46:42.02\00:46:43.91 It was a ministry called by God that you were given that mantle 00:46:43.94\00:46:47.75 and just picked it up and sort of ran with it. Yes, yeah. 00:46:47.78\00:46:51.59 Sometimes I've had people say, 00:46:51.62\00:46:52.99 "Oh, Pastor Doug, you're dad is very wealthy 00:46:53.02\00:46:55.69 and he's got this foundation," 00:46:55.72\00:46:57.09 but not a penny of my dad's foundation money 00:46:57.12\00:47:00.00 has gone to me or to Amazing Facts. 00:47:00.03\00:47:01.92 It's set up so it's meant for environmental, 00:47:01.95\00:47:05.74 humanitarian, medical and educational and--so yeah, 00:47:05.77\00:47:12.35 I hope people aren't misguided Amazing Facts 00:47:12.38\00:47:14.61 like 3ABN is entirely supported by just people 00:47:14.64\00:47:17.84 who watch and participate. Yeah, yeah. 00:47:17.87\00:47:20.79 How is your channel going man? 00:47:20.82\00:47:22.43 Had the Lord's blessing, yeah, 00:47:22.46\00:47:25.32 you know, it's growing 00:47:25.35\00:47:26.77 and as I'm sure you're seeing things 00:47:26.80\00:47:28.71 grow exponentially with 3ABN. Oh, yes. 00:47:28.74\00:47:30.35 There's people and--we found the same thing that you found. 00:47:30.38\00:47:33.75 And we look at the responses to programs 00:47:33.78\00:47:36.12 and you know, when you preach one of the generic subjects, 00:47:36.15\00:47:39.74 you can talk about baptism and you'll have some interest. 00:47:39.77\00:47:42.47 But you talk about things like what happens when you die-- 00:47:42.50\00:47:45.72 Or the Sabbath truth or the Mark of Beast, 00:47:45.75\00:47:49.15 through some of these-- 00:47:49.18\00:47:50.55 people are hungry to know the difficult subjects. 00:47:50.58\00:47:53.98 And we just see the interests 00:47:54.01\00:47:55.38 and requests spike for those subjects. Yeah, yeah. 00:47:55.41\00:47:58.80 So it seems that in these last days 00:47:58.83\00:48:00.21 people don't want to dance or waffle. 00:48:00.24\00:48:01.84 They want you to give them whole truth, 00:48:01.87\00:48:03.24 nothing but the truth and give it straight. 00:48:03.27\00:48:04.74 People appreciate when you boldly share the truth. 00:48:04.77\00:48:08.45 Praise God. Praise God. 00:48:08.48\00:48:09.96 What do you see down the road for the future of Amazing Facts 00:48:09.99\00:48:14.49 for maybe, some specials like this, 00:48:14.52\00:48:16.98 that you might be thinking about or on the drawing board 00:48:17.01\00:48:20.78 or in the back of your mind. 00:48:20.81\00:48:23.05 Yeah, what are you thinking about this time? 00:48:23.08\00:48:26.61 Well, I tell you, there's a couple of things, 00:48:26.64\00:48:28.69 one of course I was thinking about why we're sitting there, 00:48:28.72\00:48:31.25 we've done programs together 00:48:31.28\00:48:32.77 for the little kids with Ms. Brenda. Yeah. 00:48:32.80\00:48:34.55 We did one in Sacramento 00:48:34.58\00:48:36.27 and then we did of course the elementary school, 00:48:36.30\00:48:39.12 high school, college. 00:48:39.15\00:48:40.52 We've done lots of programs for the adults, 00:48:40.55\00:48:43.32 during that time. 00:48:43.35\00:48:44.72 My real passion is-- you know, I love the Bible, 00:48:44.75\00:48:47.55 but I especially love looking at the Old Testament stories 00:48:47.58\00:48:51.99 and seeing the gospel and Jesus in the Old Testament. Agreed. 00:48:52.02\00:48:56.27 And I'd love to do a series that just really talks 00:48:56.30\00:48:58.59 about Christ throughout the Bible. Okay. 00:48:58.62\00:49:01.18 And so I'm really excited about that. 00:49:01.21\00:49:03.18 I don't know that we do an age specific series, 00:49:03.21\00:49:06.42 we've every year, almost every fall for--since '04, '05. 00:49:06.45\00:49:10.60 Matter of fact we did the '04 -'05 meeting in Chattanooga. 00:49:10.63\00:49:13.05 Yeah. Oh, yes that's right. 00:49:13.08\00:49:14.45 And so that's 9 years ago-- Yeah. 00:49:14.48\00:49:16.10 We've done something just about every year since then. 00:49:16.13\00:49:19.14 Well, you know, we did the one last year at your church, 00:49:19.17\00:49:22.85 were you had the white and black-- Doctrines that Divide. 00:49:22.88\00:49:26.00 Yeah. Yes, yes. 00:49:26.03\00:49:27.40 And Pastor Barney. Oh, yeah. 00:49:27.43\00:49:32.61 Barney V. I think that's what I called him, 00:49:32.64\00:49:35.16 but you really I thought did an excellent job with that series. 00:49:35.19\00:49:41.33 And of entering during giving both sides 00:49:41.36\00:49:45.16 of some of these questions that people have. 00:49:45.19\00:49:49.31 And we had a very good response from that 3ABN. 00:49:49.34\00:49:52.64 It was easy for me to behave schizophrenically. 00:49:52.67\00:49:56.03 Yeah, I got it. 00:49:56.06\00:49:57.91 Quite natural. It came natural. Yeah. 00:49:57.94\00:50:00.34 I think once they got out over the half black, 00:50:00.37\00:50:02.16 half white suit and settled down, 00:50:02.19\00:50:04.22 there was a lot of good information 00:50:04.25\00:50:05.62 and that was an excellent series it really was, yeah. 00:50:05.65\00:50:07.31 I was--recently have that suit. I was so impressed 00:50:07.34\00:50:09.25 that seamstress did such a masterful job, 00:50:09.28\00:50:11.22 we brought two suits, brought black one and brought white one 00:50:11.25\00:50:13.16 and she just split it right down in the middle. 00:50:13.19\00:50:14.56 Right down in the middle. 00:50:14.59\00:50:16.14 Well, when I got there and saw it, 00:50:16.17\00:50:18.72 I might have had a heart attack but I because-- 00:50:18.75\00:50:22.03 Did you get very many complaints about the odd uniform? 00:50:22.06\00:50:24.80 You know, we get complaints on every thing, I mean, 00:50:24.83\00:50:27.10 I have people that complain about me constantly 00:50:27.13\00:50:30.58 and so we always get a few but not very many. 00:50:30.61\00:50:33.73 I mean you know we are more positive--more positive things 00:50:33.76\00:50:37.11 that were said than anything. 00:50:37.14\00:50:39.87 Those who got it, got it right away. Yeah. 00:50:39.90\00:50:41.48 But there were some letters so we brought along 00:50:41.51\00:50:43.05 because I turned on that night and what is he-- 00:50:43.08\00:50:47.14 But did you watch? 00:50:47.17\00:50:48.54 I did, I didn't turn away. Yeah. Right. 00:50:48.57\00:50:50.43 I think that you know, we want to get peoples attention, 00:50:50.46\00:50:52.86 television is the visual medium-- True. 00:50:52.89\00:50:56.64 So how could they visually see I'm really two people. 00:50:56.67\00:50:58.44 Yeah. Right. 00:50:58.47\00:51:00.49 I think it was very unique and truthfully we have-- 00:51:00.52\00:51:05.34 maybe one or two people and that is very, very-- 00:51:05.37\00:51:09.43 That's a good ratio. 00:51:09.46\00:51:10.83 That's good, believe me. Yeah. 00:51:10.86\00:51:12.23 And when I kid, I tease about people giving me hard time, 00:51:12.26\00:51:15.33 they really don't, they're very gracious. 00:51:15.36\00:51:17.83 And when they give me a hard time I usually deserve it 00:51:17.86\00:51:20.98 and so I write back and say you're right. 00:51:21.01\00:51:23.53 And please forgive me, I'll try not to do that again 00:51:23.56\00:51:27.60 and I'll probably writing a lot of those letters after tonight, 00:51:27.63\00:51:31.40 but because we've stepped on some toes probably, 00:51:31.43\00:51:35.84 but you know, I just feel like that 00:51:35.87\00:51:39.77 sometimes you need to open up your heart 00:51:39.80\00:51:41.68 and Night Light is the time when we do that. 00:51:41.71\00:51:44.97 We say what's on our minds, what's on our hearts, 00:51:45.00\00:51:49.01 and we bring people along and ask them to do just that. 00:51:49.04\00:51:52.74 Dr. Jim Marcum just shared some things a few minutes ago 00:51:52.77\00:51:56.31 that I'm sure some of his medical partners 00:51:56.34\00:52:00.64 would kind of cringe. Yeah, cringe. 00:52:00.67\00:52:02.77 Yes, indeed. 00:52:02.80\00:52:04.17 At some of things he said. 00:52:04.20\00:52:05.57 Doug, just question, because you-- 00:52:05.60\00:52:06.97 you also write really quite a lot. 00:52:07.00\00:52:08.49 You pastor a church, you do Sabbath school 00:52:08.52\00:52:11.33 which is loved around the world. 00:52:11.36\00:52:13.32 You write a lot, you preach a lot, and you're going a lot. 00:52:13.35\00:52:15.52 How do you structure your day to get everything 00:52:15.55\00:52:17.57 and still hold on to relationship with Christ, 00:52:17.60\00:52:19.18 because you're stretched in so many directions? 00:52:19.21\00:52:21.41 A lot of them, free offers we get are Doug Batchelor 00:52:21.44\00:52:24.72 or give it away rather, Doug Batchelor or Doug Batchelor 00:52:24.75\00:52:26.90 and somebody else, so you write voraciously, 00:52:26.93\00:52:28.59 you write a lot and then you teach the Sabbath school, 00:52:28.62\00:52:30.92 then you pastor a church. 00:52:30.95\00:52:32.32 And then you're going a lot to preach. 00:52:32.35\00:52:33.72 How do you get all that together, 00:52:33.75\00:52:35.12 still maintaining a working relationship with Jesus Christ? 00:52:35.15\00:52:38.33 Well, first of all, I couldn't do without an incredible team. 00:52:38.36\00:52:43.03 A lot of the writing, I'll do a sermon, 00:52:43.06\00:52:45.59 we transcribe it and I have friends then 00:52:45.62\00:52:47.61 that will be help me to organize the material. 00:52:47.64\00:52:49.61 I don't want to pretend.
