00:01 One lady lying in bed sick, what could she do.
00:04 She wanted to do something for God 00:05 but she had no idea what, she began to pray 00:08 and God gave her a vision of what she could 00:10 do to touch an entire tribe, stay tuned. 00:49 You got pellets here and I happen to know that 00:51 I had a friend that I saw him get a big 00:53 slobbery kiss one time or something, 00:55 do they do that? Yeah, they do that, actually.. 00:58 Can you get them to do that maybe? 00:59 Yeah, I will call her Arlene, she is Arlene. 01:01 She is 15 years old and if brave 01:04 you wanna try a Giraffe kiss. 01:05 Sure I will try it. Yeah, let me call her, 01:07 let me call Arlene. Well, only if I could 01:08 wash it afterward. Yeah, Arlene come on, 01:11 Arlene come on, Arlene, Arlene, 01:15 Arlene, come on Arlene. She knows, yes, 01:21 I'm not gonna cooperate. It must really puzzle some 01:30 of the scientists you know that think that's 01:33 all about evolution because what came first, 01:35 you know, the need to stretch up to the 01:36 taller trees or all the intricate valve system 01:40 that gets blood all the way up there to the brain. 01:42 It's kind of amazing makes you think. 01:48 Well, I may get a giraffe kiss or not, we'll see. 01:53 In this episode you'll discover several of 01:55 God's marvelous creatures that lived 01:57 openly in the Savannah's of Africa, 01:59 and how they cohabitate with the Maasai people. 02:02 The Maasai have always been special, 02:05 their bright red robes set them apart visually. 02:08 Some warriors will tell you that the red is worn 02:10 so that if they're wounded. 02:12 Their enemy will not see the blood, 02:14 spear in hand, they're calm and 02:16 courageous regardless of the danger. 02:19 The Maasai were the dominating tribe at the 02:21 beginning at the 20th century. 02:23 They're one of the very few tribes 02:25 who have retained most of their traditions, 02:27 lifestyle and lore. They have lived in harmony 02:32 with the rich ego systems of East Africa 02:34 for centuries. They have shared the land 02:36 with elephants, giraffe, rhinos, and other 02:39 majestic wildlife. They see themselves as 02:42 custodians of the land. They have prayers to 02:45 the earth, thanking the earth for sustaining them. 02:47 But once they learn of the creator their prayers 02:49 are changed. Now they're thankful that 02:51 the God of creation has sustained them through 02:54 his creation. The knowledge of a personal 02:57 creator only increases their desire to care 03:00 for their environment as a gift from God. 03:04 Hello, good to see you. Foreign Language 03:10 It's so good to see you today and 03:12 I understand because of you. 03:13 This young man's here and many other people too. 03:16 Foreign Language But I'd like you to 03:20 share some of that story with me. 03:21 How did it all begin? Foreign Language 03:24 When I move this village I had a great 03:26 passion for reaching people with the good 03:29 news of Jesus Christ. But when I moved here 03:32 I got sick and my plans were blocked, 03:35 and I realized that I had to overcome 03:37 this challenges. My heart began burning within me. 03:42 I cried to my Lord and asked him to show me 03:46 how I can still work for him while I was sick. 03:49 The Lord answered, he gave me an idea. 03:53 I would take my loud speaker and connect 03:56 it to a microphone and then I will share the 03:59 Adventist World Radio programs with the 04:02 entire village. My only hope was to reach 04:05 many people. Did you have a favorite program? 04:09 Foreign Language I enjoyed the programs 04:14 on health. The programs for youth 04:17 and the programs on family health. 04:19 These programs inspired me to move here and 04:22 share Jesus Christ with many people. 04:24 Now the Lord spoke to you and said here's a plan, 04:28 so please continue with that plan now. 04:30 Foreign Language After God gave me the 04:36 idea to use the loud speaker to amplify 04:39 the programs I set my plan into action originally 04:44 I had the speaker amplified the radio 04:46 from inside my house but after I started to 04:50 see the fruits of my labor I built a platform 04:53 on the roof of my house where I could set the 04:56 radio and teach the people more effectively. 05:01 Let me ask you if someone turned on 05:02 their radio loud near my house and 05:04 blared it out on a loud speaker I'd get upset 05:07 but apparently people here don't get upset? 05:09 Foreign Language The people who live 05:13 around me were not unhappy with me 05:16 in fact they would come closer trying to find 05:19 where the loud voice was coming from. 05:21 By that time the people did not have a 05:24 problem with this because they enjoyed 05:27 the radio program. After I built the platform 05:30 on my roof I amplified the broadcast for around 05:34 one year. I felt a sense of achievement 05:38 because even though I was sick and wasn't 05:41 able to move I was still able to reach people 05:44 through amplifying the messages. 05:47 You say you were sick, what did you have 05:49 that you couldn't move? Foreign Language 05:53 The weather conditions where I live now are 05:56 much different then where I lived before 05:59 so when I moved the climate here caused 06:01 my Malaria to flare up that's sickness slowed 06:05 me down and I couldn't be as aggressive as 06:08 I wanted to be. Where you praying 06:10 at this time that someone might listen 06:12 and their hearts would be changed? 06:14 Foreign Language I was so happy because 06:17 God answered my prayers God made 06:20 me feels such joy and I wished I could jump 06:23 with joy. How did God answer your prayer? 06:26 Foreign Language I had prayed that by 06:30 amplifying AWR people would be drawn to Jesus 06:34 and now they are many who have as a result of 06:38 the loud speaker project. So this young man this 06:41 morning that was coming down the pathway from 06:43 his village. He's one of the first person 06:46 that listened? Foreign Language 06:48 This man is the first person who listen to 06:51 AWR through my loud speaker. 06:54 He has continued to share with 06:56 many people in this village. 07:00 As you can see AWR is frontline mission radio. 07:04 Our first priority is to travel where 07:06 missionaries cannot go. We broadcast 07:09 thousands of hours each day in seventy 07:12 major languages of the world. 07:14 AWR has the capability and capacity of blanketing 07:17 almost 80 percent of the world's population. 07:20 Not only do we broadcast via shortwave radio, 07:23 but our signal is on over 1000 FM and AM stations 07:27 around the world as well. Our podcast subscribers, 07:31 Internet users, satellite downlinks 07:33 are growing rapidly, evidenced by the 07:36 hundred thousand plus e-mails, letters 07:38 and phone calls we receive each and every year. 07:42 Yes, AWR is your mission radio. 07:45 No walls and no borders. For AWR that means 07:48 changed lives and changed hearts around the world, 07:51 because God is using the airways 07:53 of AWR to reach people everywhere. 08:00 Here is another story of hope 08:02 from Adventist World Radio. 08:04 Tong hated his life always on the edge. 08:08 He often found himself angry at the actions 08:10 of others. I lived under the control of people's 08:13 words he says. The anger and hopelessness led 08:16 Tong to wonder if anyone would miss him 08:19 if he killed himself. The classmates suggested 08:22 Tong tune in to Adventist world radio. 08:25 Listening that night Tong heard for the 08:27 first time of a God who loved him unconditionally 08:30 that night I got back to my life he says. 08:34 Tong knows there are many others like him 08:36 in China living in hopelessness believing 08:39 that no one loves them, I pray they find God 08:42 soon he says. Jesus will help 08:44 them to leave the world of sin. 08:49 Adventist World Radio shares the hope of 08:52 Christ with millions of people every day, 08:55 for more information visit www.awr.org. 09:02 I'm told that the Maasai people understand 09:06 the animal kingdom can actually almost 09:08 communicate you, you live in nature so long 09:11 that you know what the animals think almost. 09:13 Do you have to worry about the 09:16 danger of many different animals. 09:24 We're afraid when only the buffalo 09:26 because the buffalo when he is alone, 09:30 he can attack him. He will follow you for any reason, 09:35 even the elephant the one the single elephant 09:39 is bad, but the group they are not bad. 09:42 The lions we found them, they lay under the tree 09:45 we just pass, but the lion knows that 09:49 we attack him when he came to catch our cows. 09:53 So we must kill him. But the buffalo they're 09:56 the most dangerous? The buffalo is more dangerous. 10:00 Known as one of the big five or black death 10:03 in Africa. The African buffalo is widely regarded 10:06 as a very dangerous animal as it gores and 10:09 kills over 200 people every year. 10:12 Buffalo are sometimes reported to kill more 10:15 people in Africa than any other animal 10:17 although the same claim is sometimes made of Hippos. 10:32 In the Garden of Eden, God talked face to face 10:34 with Adam and Eve but sin separated God 10:37 and man until Jesus restored that communication. 10:41 Now it happens in a different way, 10:43 one example is the voice of hope broadcast from AWR. 10:46 It is sometimes heard by people 10:48 who have no intention of listening. 10:51 Tell me, what did it mean to you when 10:54 you first heard the radio program? 10:58 I got so excited when I started hearing these 11:01 radio programs that brought me closer to Jesus 11:04 and changed my life I was in darkness 11:07 but now I have moved in to the light. 11:10 You said you came from darkness, 11:12 would you explain what this darkness was? 11:14 Foreign Language Before I was a Christian 11:20 I was dishonest and unfaithful to my promises. 11:23 When I would buy and sell cattle I would lie 11:26 and now I see that was not good. 11:29 Were there other things you did in your life that 11:31 you weren't really happy with that have changed? 11:34 Since I gave up those bad habits I was able 11:38 to have a strong relationship with God 11:40 and I am continuing to grow closer to him everyday. 11:44 So I like you to think back to the first day 11:47 that you first heard the radio, 11:49 what did you think that first day? 11:51 You weren't a Christian but you heard that 11:53 first program what did it mean to you? 11:55 Foreign Language I knew that one day 12:01 I will die and AWR programs prepared me 12:04 for dead because I know that any time I die, 12:08 I die into the hands of Jesus Christ. 12:11 What's the next step you've accepted Jesus 12:14 into your life are there other steps now 12:16 that you're preparing for? Foreign Language 12:20 We don't how to read and write in this village 12:22 but we have a great desire to learn 12:25 we need people to teach us to read and write 12:28 so we may study the Holy Scriptures on our own 12:31 and come into a closer relationship with God. 12:34 So now you are desiring to learn more 12:38 so that you can know God better? Yes. 12:43 Now for this is Whistling Acacia. 12:45 Yes, this is Whistling Thorn Acacia. 12:48 Why do they call it that? This is because whenever 12:51 the wind is blowing with this kind of blows, 12:54 sounds like whistles. Really so just the wind's, 12:58 well the wind's blowing a little bit right now 13:00 how come, we can't hear it right now, 13:01 just not hard enough. Yes, yes it's not hard enough. 13:04 Now did the giraffes like this type of acacia 13:07 too or no? They like a lot of the leaves of acacia, 13:10 this is their favorite meal. The only part 13:15 that the giraffe eat is just this little soft leaf. 13:18 Yes, yes they prefer this leaf and contain a 13:23 lot of minerals with them but also necessary 13:26 for them water because giraffe can live to a place 13:29 without water because they get water from the leaves. 13:33 Let's go find some animals, shall we? Yeah, sure. 13:41 The giraffe is the tallest animal in the world 13:43 so beautiful and graceful and a amazing creature 13:47 instantly recognized around the world. 13:50 Males can grow up to 18 feet tall and 13:52 weigh 2000 pounds, female are usually lighter 13:56 and about 2 feet shorter. Their long neck only has 13:59 7 vertebrae as do most mammals although 14:02 each is much larger. The giraffe soup plate sized 14:07 hooves are used as offensive weapons 14:10 usually in defense of their young, a powerful 14:13 kick from their front feet can kill a lion. 14:15 They inhabit the vast Savannah, 14:18 where there are acacia trees scattered across 14:20 the landscape. Their long black tongue which 14:24 can extend 18 inches is used to gather food 14:27 into the mouth what an amazing creature 14:30 created not only for it's beauty 14:32 but also is the local tree trimmer. 14:35 So you keep her for breeding? 14:37 Yeah this is a breeding one and 14:39 she has a baby called Bunny. 14:41 Bunny is 1 year and half. How old do they have 14:45 to be before they can actually breed and produce? 14:47 A giraffe normally become mature, 14:50 females by the time they reach 4 years, 14:52 males by the time they reach 7 years. 14:54 And how old do they live? They live up to 30 years 14:57 in captivity, 10 to 15 in the wild, 14:59 they also why the life span is short in the wild 15:03 because the acacia tree. They've got small leaves 15:06 that will often fall into their eyes then they 15:08 develop cataracts, so by that time they reach 15:10 age of 14, 15 years, they're either blind 15:13 or partially blind. Really? Yeah. 15:15 Oh! You poor thing. Have you ever notice 15:18 that after being bent over standing up too quickly 15:21 can cause you to become very dizzy. 15:23 It's because of a sudden drop in blood pressure 15:25 and oxygen to the brain. The opposite happens to 15:28 the giraffe when they quickly lowered their 15:30 head to compensate for the sudden increase in 15:33 blood pressure they have very elastic blood vessels 15:36 in a intricate valve system in their neck 15:38 that controls the blood flow and pressure, 15:40 what an amazing creator we have. 15:43 So if you want to try a giraffe kiss, 15:45 let her give a long one, come on. 15:46 Okay we've got to entice her for a kiss, 15:48 is that it. Yes. Okay. Have a long one, 15:51 I will show what to do. Arlene look. 15:53 Oh, no, I decided I don't want to do that. 15:57 Come on Arlene, Arlene, Arlene. 16:00 That's okay sweetheart, another date may be. 16:03 Arlene, Arlene, okay your chin between her lips. 16:07 Okay, come on Arlene. Come on here. 16:10 She plays like it. Just stand here. 16:12 Oh come on now I got my courage up, 16:14 this can't take all day I'm gonna change my mind. 16:16 Okay put in between your lips. 16:18 She can't because of your cap. Okay come on. 16:23 There we go, there we go. 16:26 Oh that was a good kiss. Where is the faucet. 16:32 Okay antiseptic or no, that's enough. 16:38 You are sweet though. Yes you are. 16:54 How often did you tune the radio like this 16:56 and put it out the window so everybody can hear it. 16:59 Foreign Language I used to tune that 17:05 every night when the Maasai program 17:08 used to be on air. And you showed me 17:11 you have a lot of cattle, so when you're done 17:14 with the cattle you would listen to this at night. 17:16 Foreign Language We have a total of 120 cows 17:20 in this community after taking care of my cows 17:24 at 8:30 in the evening I come home, 17:26 I tune my radio to AWR Maasai program. 17:30 And you're one of the leaders of this community. 17:33 I was born in this place and raised in this place 17:37 and now I am a community elder 17:39 like my father before me. 17:41 So it's one of the leaders and you 17:43 accepted Jesus first in to your life 17:46 many others will follow because of you. 17:48 Many other villagers here decided to follow 17:54 Jesus the way that I've done. 17:56 So many of them are anxious to hear AWR programs 18:00 because that is the only way to hear the gospel. 18:03 You see we cannot read on our own 18:05 but we wish to learn so that we can study 18:08 the Holy Scriptures and have a better 18:10 understanding of God. That many people here 18:14 in the village believe in other Gods or what 18:17 did they believe in before they accepted Jesus? 18:20 In this place people used to worship other gods, 18:24 they were pagans but now since they started 18:28 listening to the AWR programs they only worship 18:31 the true God. AWR is popular with everyone 18:34 in this village and that's brought all of us 18:37 to know the living God. Amen, well, I appreciate 18:41 you sharing here too about this part 18:43 of the story, it's wonderful. 18:45 Thank you for inviting me to your home. 18:48 Through the radio waves of AWR God 18:50 is reaching people around the world, 18:54 we'd like to offer you an edition of Making Waves. 18:56 It's four of our episodes brought to you from 18:58 around the world. God speaking to hearts, 19:02 the hearts of the listeners of AWR, 19:03 exciting stories; we hope that you'll share those 19:06 with friends and neighbors, acquaintances, 19:08 anyone you come in contact with. 19:10 Join us to Make Waves, It's completely free, 19:12 right now the information's on your screen. 19:16 For your free no obligation DVD write 19:19 to Adventist World Radio, 12501, 19:23 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD 20904. 19:28 Or call 1-866-503- 3531 or log on to 19:34 www.awr.org/MWDVD. Be sure to request 19:41 offer number 10, that number again is 19:44 1-866- 503-3531. 19:50 Here's another story of hope 19:53 from Adventist World Radio. 19:55 My name is Benjamin Schoun, 19:56 president of Adventist World Radio. 19:59 We've been amazed by God's work in Afghanistan. 20:02 Recently a relief worker told me that many 20:05 Afghanis has great interest in learning 20:07 about Christ, but are afraid to purchase Bibles, 20:11 instead they listen to Christian radio programs. 20:14 Adventist World Radio broadcast to 20:16 Afghanistan in the Dari, Uyghur, and 20:19 Arabic languages, allowing us to reach 20:22 a large number of population. 20:24 The response has been incredible, 20:26 just one example is a letter we received 20:29 from an orphaned teenage refugee saying 20:32 Jesus is now the hope I cling to in my sea of pain. 20:36 How can I be become a Christian? 20:39 Adventist World Radio shares the hope 20:42 of Christ with million of people everyday, 20:46 for more information visit www.awr.org. 20:50 Before I made it here to the Serengeti 20:53 I never thought about it being so beautiful 20:55 and so lush in many places. Makes me think 20:58 of the Garden of Eden. How God in the cool 21:01 of the day walked hand in hand with Adam and Eve 21:04 but you know that's another story in itself 21:07 because God had recently created man and woman. 21:10 The story goes that he got down and he fashioned 21:13 man out of the dust of the ground, 21:16 spent special time, all the rest of the creation 21:19 he spoke it into existence but with man 21:22 our first parent, he fashioned, spent so much 21:26 time in doing everything just exactly right. 21:29 And then the scriptures record that he actually 21:33 apparently kissed Adam as the Hebrew words 21:36 and he blew into him the breath of life, 21:39 and Adam became a living being, ready 21:42 and beautiful in complexion, perfect 21:44 symmetry in all of its ways. 21:47 And God caused all the animal creation to come 21:50 before Adam and Adam named every single one. 21:53 Apparently, a name that would signify 21:56 what type of animal, what type of characteristics. 21:58 I can't even begin to imagine what that must 22:01 have been like but Adam perfect from the hand 22:03 of the creator had such intellect, such 22:06 incredible wisdom. As I look around and see 22:10 the beauty that's still here, see the animals 22:14 themselves and think about the mind of God. 22:16 What must the mind of God be like to create 22:18 a giant cat, a wonderful cat that's so majestic 22:22 and beautiful, to parrots and buffalo, 22:26 well the list just goes on and on 22:28 and you've got to think the mind of God 22:31 has to be absolutely infinite and loving 22:35 because he created it all for you and for me. 22:40 One of the best places on earth to talk 22:42 about creation is Africa. Modern day paleontologist 22:46 consider Africa to be the cradle of civilization, 22:48 but many biblical archeologists believe 22:51 the Bible points to the area of Iraq and 22:53 Iran as the birth place of civilization. 22:55 When surrounded by such a marvelous variety 22:58 of wildlife I can't help but think of the one 23:01 who created it all. The earth and all it holds 23:04 has been called God's second book next 23:06 to the Bible. There is no doubt that as 23:09 we view the beauty, thoughtfulness, creative 23:11 genius and love that went into all we see. 23:14 We are drawn to the creator, the God who 23:17 seeks to become our best friend. 23:22 She was sick in bed with no hope of healing 23:24 but her thoughts were not focused upon 23:26 her own problems and limitation but upon sharing 23:29 Jesus with others, her greatest desire was to 23:32 win someone to the Lord she loved. 23:34 Self was put aside and she was blessed beyond 23:37 belief with far more then she could have imagined. 23:43 You are beginning to see the fruits of your labor. 23:45 What's happened in this village that exciting 23:48 to you? Foreign Language I am excited to know 23:53 there are people who have moved from the 23:54 darkness to the light in Jesus Christ. 23:57 This makes me very happy. 24:00 Have they been baptized here? 24:02 One person has been baptized here but now 24:06 others are being prepared for baptism. 24:09 Have you been baptized yet? I am baptized. 24:13 So you're the one, you're the first listener 24:16 and you've been baptized and now 24:17 there is many more getting ready? Yes. 24:20 How many more? Foreign Language 24:22 They are ten candidates who are being prepared 24:24 for baptism, we've also created a follow up 24:28 program for our listeners and I believe this will 24:31 help those listeners become more faithful 24:34 to the gospel of Jesus Christ. 24:37 What would you tell people who say 24:39 I can't do anything, I can't leave my home, 24:42 I can't witness for the Lord, I can't do anything? 24:46 What would you tell someone like that? 24:48 Despite the stumbling blocks someone might 24:53 be facing. They will sacrifice anything 24:55 when they learn and understand why Jesus 24:58 humbled himself from the throne of glory and 25:02 came down to be sacrificed. Personally, 25:05 I think that many people think that just 25:08 because I am a woman I am weak, 25:11 but I can testify that by God's grace 25:15 he has used me in a mighty way despite my gender. 25:19 I thank God for that. When someone knows 25:22 the love of God, nothing can stop them from 25:25 sharing the new faith with others. 25:30 If you have never heard the AWR program 25:33 how would you life be different today? 25:35 Foreign Language I thank God that 25:38 I heard the AWR programs because 25:41 I think without them I would not be here 25:44 where I am today. Amen. I appreciate 25:49 being able to come out in the bush today way 25:51 out here in the middle of nowhere and get 25:52 to meet both of you. This is wonderful. 25:54 Thank you very much. Foreign Language 26:00 It's going to be fun to walk 26:02 together in heaven. Nice to be. 26:06 In Isaiah chapter 52 verse 7, it's say how 26:10 beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those 26:13 who proclaim good news, who proclaim peace, 26:17 who bring good tidings, who proclaims salvation, 26:21 who say to Zion, your God reigns. 26:24 Ana Simbo is a such a humble Christian individual 26:28 and even though she didn't have good health 26:31 and didn't feel she could do much. 26:32 She was really fulfilling the vision that God has 26:36 for every believer that is to share that good news 26:41 with people everywhere. Now we're out in the very 26:44 rural area, in fact, we didn't even have a road 26:48 by which we could drive to this location, 26:50 simply a path that we followed. 26:52 This is also one of the places where we sent 26:56 one of those gift radios, the solar crank radios 27:00 so that they could have even more ways to 27:02 listen to the broadcast. Those are the radios that 27:06 you viewers helped us to provide for places 27:10 like this, yes this is the work that 27:12 Adventist World Radio does, sharing the message 27:16 of salvation with people in the mountains, 27:18 in the valleys, all over the world and 27:21 I invite you to again support the work of 27:24 AWR as we continue to reach more people everywhere. 27:28 There is no doubt AWR is making waves and 27:31 if you'd like to help us make more waves, 27:32 give us a call today 1-866-503-3531. 27:38 Or you can write us 12501, Old Columbia Pike, 27:41 Silver Spring, Maryland 20904, Or log on to 27:45 the website; www.awr.org.
