It's is hot, it's dry, it's dusty, 00:00:01.96\00:00:02.93 it's barren, very little shade. 00:00:02.93\00:00:05.13 I don't know where they find any water 00:00:06.06\00:00:07.76 in this place. But some how these nomads 00:00:07.76\00:00:10.16 survive in land that's so inhospitable. 00:00:10.16\00:00:12.53 Wonderful camel herd, I've never seen 00:00:14.13\00:00:15.76 so many camels in any place on earth 00:00:15.76\00:00:17.46 in my life at one time. And they're very 00:00:17.66\00:00:20.90 nice people even though some of them are 00:00:20.90\00:00:22.46 carrying weapons over their shoulder, 00:00:22.46\00:00:24.50 they're nice people. You find good 00:00:25.30\00:00:27.36 people every where on earth. 00:00:27.36\00:00:29.10 Anthropologists called Ethiopia the 00:01:06.00\00:01:08.06 cradle of civilization. The discovery of a 00:01:08.06\00:01:11.33 skeleton later named Lucy is said to 00:01:11.33\00:01:14.10 be the missing link and was found in the 00:01:14.10\00:01:16.26 far region of the Ethiopian. Some studies 00:01:16.60\00:01:19.43 claim that the dispersion of human beings 00:01:19.43\00:01:21.83 can be traced back to this region. 00:01:21.83\00:01:23.46 However, according to Genesis 1:1, 00:01:24.10\00:01:26.46 we find that God created all the things. 00:01:26.46\00:01:28.83 In the beginning God created the heavens 00:01:29.23\00:01:31.20 and the earth. So we conclude that the 00:01:31.20\00:01:33.50 Lucy account does not fit the Biblical 00:01:33.50\00:01:35.60 record of creation. As we head east the 00:01:35.60\00:01:44.06 terrain begins to change from hilly green 00:01:44.06\00:01:46.23 woods and pasture lands to a volcanic 00:01:46.23\00:01:48.53 wasteland. Even in this volcanic hoarseness 00:01:48.53\00:01:56.60 just look at the beauty that God has 00:01:56.80\00:01:58.60 created to remind us of him. Hope you can 00:01:58.60\00:02:03.46 see these colors. The land is dry and arid. 00:02:03.46\00:02:15.76 There may be rains that come at certain 00:02:16.80\00:02:18.43 times of the year to water the animals 00:02:18.43\00:02:21.70 and supply a little bit of nutrients for humans. 00:02:21.70\00:02:24.06 But most of the time it's just dry, 00:02:25.30\00:02:27.06 it's barren, and there's just no water to be 00:02:27.40\00:02:31.40 found, how do they do it. I don't know it 00:02:31.40\00:02:35.00 seems like God gives every human 00:02:35.20\00:02:36.86 being the ability to somehow survive. 00:02:36.86\00:02:39.76 Much of the area surrounding the well 00:02:57.96\00:02:59.73 of Biblical Samaria was barren desert and 00:02:59.73\00:03:02.33 bone dry. A woman had come out of 00:03:02.33\00:03:05.40 the city to draw the precious water 00:03:05.40\00:03:07.20 of life and Jesus was there waiting for her. 00:03:07.40\00:03:09.90 He was thinking of much more than the 00:03:10.66\00:03:12.40 water that would sustain physical life. 00:03:12.40\00:03:14.53 He revealed to her that whoever drinks 00:03:15.63\00:03:17.20 of this water shall thirst again. 00:03:17.20\00:03:19.00 But whoever drinks of the water that 00:03:19.53\00:03:21.23 I shall give him shall never thirst. 00:03:21.23\00:03:23.46 But the water that I shall give him shall 00:03:24.40\00:03:25.83 be in him a well of water to spring it up. 00:03:26.10\00:03:28.16 He was speaking of water that represented 00:03:29.20\00:03:30.90 the Holy Spirit. The presence of God that 00:03:30.90\00:03:33.60 would make the desert of the human heart 00:03:33.60\00:03:35.13 spring up and blossom to eternal life. 00:03:35.33\00:03:37.83 Today you will visit barren deserts and 00:03:39.00\00:03:40.53 the people who live there. You will 00:03:40.53\00:03:42.56 meet those who have heard the voice 00:03:42.56\00:03:44.03 of Jesus and have allowed the true water 00:03:44.03\00:03:46.53 of life to change them forever. 00:03:46.53\00:03:49.03 We traveled a long way today to get here 00:03:51.56\00:03:53.53 to Ambo, Ethiopia. It's my understanding a 00:03:53.53\00:03:56.70 lot of people have come from many areas to 00:03:56.70\00:03:58.63 meet with us today. So let's go 00:03:58.63\00:04:00.20 on inside and see who's here. 00:04:00.20\00:04:01.83 Foreign language 00:04:06.33\00:04:30.80 What language group is this of the people 00:04:31.10\00:04:32.60 we're going to meet today. 00:04:32.60\00:04:33.60 Oromo language. Oromo, Oromo. 00:04:33.93\00:04:36.40 How many people are in that language group? 00:04:37.06\00:04:38.43 More than 37 million, 37 million, yeah. 00:04:39.20\00:04:42.73 Thirty seven million people in a language 00:04:43.90\00:04:46.06 group. And Adventist Radio is reaching out 00:04:46.06\00:04:49.00 to them? This is an incredible story today, 00:04:49.00\00:04:51.30 because we have many people from many 00:04:51.30\00:04:52.73 places I understand. As a matter of fact 00:04:52.96\00:04:55.30 here many of them here today, 00:04:55.70\00:04:56.93 Akam Bultan, did I get right? Yeah, 00:04:57.40\00:05:01.30 you're right. I got it right and nobody said. 00:05:01.30\00:05:03.10 I tried so hard to get it right. They were not 00:05:04.53\00:05:07.30 expecting that. They weren't expecting that. 00:05:07.66\00:05:09.46 Well let me try, Akam Bultan. 00:05:10.16\00:05:11.76 Okay that's better. It's good to see 00:05:13.63\00:05:17.63 all of you today. How many of you are 00:05:17.63\00:05:20.90 here because of Adventist World Radio. 00:05:20.90\00:05:23.03 You found the love of Jesus Christ through 00:05:23.03\00:05:25.30 Adventist World Radio, I want you to raise 00:05:25.30\00:05:26.80 your hands. Alright, it's alright. 00:05:26.80\00:05:31.86 Is everybody here today from 00:05:31.86\00:05:33.10 the same church group? 00:05:33.10\00:05:34.30 Foreign language 00:05:34.30\00:05:37.90 No, they're not from the same church. 00:05:38.36\00:05:40.33 And so is anybody from here locally? 00:05:40.33\00:05:42.50 Foreign language 00:05:43.33\00:05:46.53 No one. Okay, so they've all come from 00:05:47.90\00:05:49.43 distances to meet us today, right. 00:05:49.43\00:05:51.10 How many churches can we somehow 00:05:52.40\00:05:54.06 split them up into church groups. 00:05:54.06\00:05:55.46 Foreign language 00:05:56.00\00:06:00.86 Let's maybe start with this group here. 00:06:01.60\00:06:02.93 Who, is there a spokesman or is there 00:06:03.96\00:06:05.50 someone that you started out listening 00:06:05.50\00:06:07.83 to AWR and then you shared with everybody else. 00:06:07.83\00:06:10.20 A friend of mine told me about Adventist 00:06:11.96\00:06:14.30 World Radio and after that I began to 00:06:14.30\00:06:16.96 listen to the AWR program. I recognized 00:06:16.96\00:06:20.50 truth in what Adventist World Radio was 00:06:20.50\00:06:22.73 teaching and preaching. After that I shared 00:06:22.73\00:06:25.73 the radio's message with my friends. 00:06:25.73\00:06:27.83 So you started listening because of him to AWR. 00:06:28.96\00:06:32.66 Foreign language 00:06:32.90\00:06:34.90 I was in front listening to AWR before 00:06:35.70\00:06:38.13 he told about it. He encouraged me to 00:06:38.13\00:06:40.70 join the church. But there was no church, 00:06:40.70\00:06:43.30 so we made a phone call to AWR station 00:06:43.30\00:06:45.53 in Addis Ababa, and from there we formed 00:06:45.53\00:06:48.06 many other group of people who were 00:06:48.06\00:06:49.83 Adventist and listening to AWR. 00:06:49.83\00:06:51.96 I think God brought all of us listen 00:06:52.73\00:06:54.83 here together to be a church body. 00:06:54.83\00:06:56.86 So you're continually sharing AWR with 00:06:58.03\00:07:00.06 other people. Yeah, yes we're sharing 00:07:00.06\00:07:02.16 with other people. Are you happy that 00:07:02.76\00:07:04.83 you've been listening to AWR? 00:07:04.83\00:07:06.50 Does it make a change in your lives. 00:07:06.50\00:07:08.10 Alright fellows, thank you so much. 00:07:10.26\00:07:12.30 Let's go into another group here and see 00:07:12.30\00:07:13.93 their story but don't go away. I may 00:07:13.93\00:07:15.73 want to talk to you some more, okay. 00:07:15.73\00:07:17.10 As you can see AWR is frontline mission 00:07:19.06\00:07:22.03 radio. Our first priority is to travel where 00:07:22.03\00:07:25.10 missionaries cannot go. AWR has 00:07:30.56\00:07:34.06 the capability and capacity of blanketing 00:07:34.06\00:07:36.23 almost eighty percent of the world's 00:07:36.23\00:07:37.80 population. Not only do we broadcast via 00:07:37.80\00:07:40.83 shortwave radio, but our signal is on over 00:07:41.03\00:07:43.96 1000 FM and AM stations around the 00:07:43.96\00:07:47.00 world as well. Our podcast subscribers, 00:07:47.00\00:07:50.06 Internet users, satellite downlinks are 00:07:50.06\00:07:52.66 growing rapidly, evidenced by the hundred 00:07:52.66\00:07:55.30 thousand plus e-mails, letters and phone 00:07:55.30\00:07:58.20 calls we receive each and every year. 00:07:58.20\00:08:00.56 Yes, AWR is your mission radio. 00:08:01.00\00:08:03.66 No walls and no borders. For AWR that 00:08:04.13\00:08:06.90 means changed lives and changed hearts 00:08:06.90\00:08:08.80 around the world, because God is using the 00:08:08.80\00:08:11.60 airways of AWR to reach people everywhere. 00:08:11.80\00:08:14.90 Here's another story of hope from 00:08:19.10\00:08:21.63 Adventist World Radio. My name is 00:08:21.63\00:08:23.93 Benjamin Schoun, I'm the President of 00:08:23.93\00:08:25.60 Adventist World Radio. Let me tell you 00:08:25.60\00:08:27.93 about our work in North Korea, a nation 00:08:27.93\00:08:30.50 governed by a powerfully repressive 00:08:30.50\00:08:32.53 communist regime, where any form 00:08:33.00\00:08:34.76 of evangelism is strictly forbidden. 00:08:34.76\00:08:36.93 Adventist World Radio makes daily 00:08:37.33\00:08:39.10 shortwave broadcast to North Korea 00:08:39.30\00:08:41.53 spreading the Hope of Christ to a nation 00:08:41.53\00:08:43.60 utterly devoid of Christianity. 00:08:43.60\00:08:45.70 It's extremely rare that we make any 00:08:46.50\00:08:48.90 contact with listeners in North Korea. 00:08:48.90\00:08:51.33 However through communication with North 00:08:51.83\00:08:53.80 Korean refugees we're encouraged to know 00:08:53.80\00:08:56.40 that people are listening to our programs. 00:08:56.40\00:08:58.83 We pray that our listeners in North Korea 00:08:59.30\00:09:01.40 will receive God's word and find salvation in Christ. 00:09:01.60\00:09:05.96 Adventist World Radio shares the hope of 00:09:07.93\00:09:10.86 Christ with millions of people everyday. 00:09:10.86\00:09:14.03 For more information visit awr.org. 00:09:14.33\00:09:18.30 Now, we're in the some of most inhospitable 00:09:34.30\00:09:36.30 country in the world. Volcanic, barren, 00:09:36.30\00:09:39.36 no water, almost no shade, but these animals 00:09:39.96\00:09:43.33 survive and thrive. I don't 00:09:43.33\00:09:45.56 know exactly how about they do. 00:09:45.56\00:09:47.16 From ancient Biblical times camels have 00:09:50.40\00:09:52.26 been recognized as very important to 00:09:52.26\00:09:54.36 many cultures. This animal has been called 00:09:54.36\00:09:57.10 the ship of the desert. Most animals 00:09:57.10\00:10:00.70 store fat in their bodies, but only camels 00:10:00.70\00:10:03.10 keep most of their fat in a hump. 00:10:03.10\00:10:04.63 If food is hard to find, the fat in the hump 00:10:05.60\00:10:08.00 provides energy for the animal. The hump 00:10:08.00\00:10:10.50 is not a storage place for water as many 00:10:10.50\00:10:12.70 people believe. The camel's thick coat 00:10:12.70\00:10:15.86 reflects sunlight, and also insulates it 00:10:15.86\00:10:18.20 from the intense heat radiated from 00:10:18.20\00:10:19.96 desert sand. Their long legs help by 00:10:19.96\00:10:23.80 keeping them further from the hot ground. 00:10:23.80\00:10:25.83 Their mouth is very sturdy, has 38 teeth 00:10:26.50\00:10:29.23 and able to chew thorny desert plants. 00:10:29.23\00:10:31.33 Camels eating green herbage can capture 00:10:32.13\00:10:34.26 enough moisture in milder conditions to 00:10:34.26\00:10:36.43 maintain their bodies' hydrated state 00:10:36.43\00:10:38.93 without the need for drinking. Long eyelashes 00:10:38.93\00:10:42.70 and heavy ear hair, together with 00:10:42.70\00:10:44.63 sealable nostrils form a barrier against sand. 00:10:44.63\00:10:47.80 They're able to withstand changes in 00:10:48.83\00:10:50.50 body temperature and water content that 00:10:50.50\00:10:52.40 would kill most other animals. Their body 00:10:52.40\00:10:55.20 temperature ranges from 93 degrees 00:10:55.20\00:10:57.40 Fahrenheit at night to 106 degrees 00:10:57.40\00:10:59.93 Fahrenheit during the day, and only above 00:10:59.93\00:11:02.93 this threshold will they begin to sweat. 00:11:02.93\00:11:05.10 Evaporation of their sweat takes place at 00:11:06.10\00:11:08.00 skin level, not at the surface of their 00:11:08.00\00:11:10.10 coat, thereby being efficient at cooling 00:11:10.10\00:11:12.73 the body compared to the amount of 00:11:12.73\00:11:14.30 water lost during sweating. This ability to 00:11:14.30\00:11:18.10 fluctuate body temperature and the 00:11:18.10\00:11:20.23 efficiency of their sweating allows them 00:11:20.23\00:11:22.06 to preserve about five liters of water a day. 00:11:22.06\00:11:24.70 God really knew what he was doing when 00:11:26.03\00:11:27.66 he created the camel. I want you ask you, 00:11:27.66\00:11:30.16 is that toothbrush? Your stick, yeah, 00:11:30.16\00:11:36.20 where do you find that? A bush, the stick, 00:11:37.06\00:11:41.36 yeah. You find that on a bush. Yeah, 00:11:42.20\00:11:46.43 I know, no translator. I'm lost, thank you. 00:11:46.43\00:11:50.83 There are an estimated 30 to 40 million 00:11:54.70\00:11:56.70 nomads in the world. Nomads are 00:11:56.70\00:11:59.00 hunter-gatherers and have by far the 00:11:59.00\00:12:01.33 longest lived method of survival in 00:12:01.63\00:12:03.46 human history following seasonally available 00:12:03.46\00:12:06.36 wild plants and game. They're continually 00:12:06.36\00:12:09.26 on the move with their herds looking for 00:12:09.26\00:12:10.93 pasture. You see they're searching for 00:12:10.93\00:12:13.80 a better life. They desire peace, 00:12:13.80\00:12:15.86 seek after happiness, and they want 00:12:16.63\00:12:18.63 answers to questions about life after death. 00:12:18.63\00:12:20.96 It's exciting to be a part of God's great 00:12:22.16\00:12:23.96 work that is truly changing the hearts 00:12:23.96\00:12:26.70 and lives of these desert dwellers. 00:12:26.70\00:12:28.80 That is some knife, got a loft at the base. 00:12:31.10\00:12:39.06 So yours is brown, it looks like you've 00:12:48.86\00:12:50.60 had yours for a long time, that's it, 00:12:50.60\00:12:53.16 and kind of bitter. When he got this off 00:12:53.43\00:12:57.70 the bush, mine is green, his is brown. 00:12:57.70\00:12:59.76 How long has he had his piece to brush his teeth. 00:13:00.40\00:13:03.06 Foreign language 00:13:03.06\00:13:09.20 For three days, three days, okay but 00:13:09.40\00:13:11.73 that of different kind. Is that one 00:13:12.00\00:13:13.90 better than this one. This one is the 00:13:13.90\00:13:15.73 best. This is one is best. What does he 00:13:15.73\00:13:17.76 call it. We call it badeno, badeno, okay. 00:13:17.76\00:13:23.03 Thank you very much, I appreciate it, 00:13:23.40\00:13:25.46 thank you. It's interesting; the people 00:13:25.76\00:13:28.60 here are very friendly, very nice, 00:13:28.60\00:13:31.73 willing to help you out. Apparently, this 00:13:31.93\00:13:34.10 is the greatest little bush to brush your 00:13:34.10\00:13:35.73 teeth. I understand some of these 00:13:35.73\00:13:37.70 even have various things that help your 00:13:37.70\00:13:41.10 teeth other than just brushing. 00:13:41.10\00:13:43.50 Now this is another, another representing 00:13:45.73\00:13:48.40 another church group here. Yes, we're 00:13:48.60\00:13:50.43 representing another group. And what's the 00:13:50.66\00:13:53.06 story of this group. Tell me how did you end 00:13:53.06\00:13:55.43 up coming here today. How did you end up 00:13:55.43\00:13:57.63 with your relationship with God through 00:13:58.63\00:14:00.16 AWR because you raised hands 00:14:00.16\00:14:02.00 that you listened to AWR? 00:14:02.00\00:14:03.90 Foreign language 00:14:04.16\00:14:05.60 Before I was a Christian I was under the 00:14:05.80\00:14:07.73 control of the devil, I worship him and because 00:14:08.10\00:14:11.23 of that I had so many problems. I lost all of 00:14:11.23\00:14:14.73 my property and livestock, worst of all my 00:14:14.73\00:14:17.63 family died. Thankfully I found a 00:14:17.83\00:14:20.06 brother from a Christian church. 00:14:20.06\00:14:21.80 If I can before he goes on. I wanna hear 00:14:22.46\00:14:24.63 just a little more on that, worshiping 00:14:24.83\00:14:27.06 the devil. How did he worship the devil? 00:14:27.06\00:14:29.23 Foreign language 00:14:29.90\00:14:31.03 I used to go to the fortuneteller, 00:14:31.03\00:14:32.93 so he could predict my future. 00:14:33.16\00:14:34.93 I lost everything because I followed 00:14:35.20\00:14:37.20 the fortuneteller's orders. 00:14:37.20\00:14:38.83 So he ended up losing all of his properties 00:14:39.30\00:14:41.53 and everything because he followed the 00:14:41.53\00:14:43.00 fortuneteller. The fortuneteller asked me 00:14:43.20\00:14:46.50 to sacrifice my cattle and sheep and 00:14:46.50\00:14:49.43 eventually I had no more cattle left to sacrifice. 00:14:49.43\00:14:52.23 Only my children and me are left alive. 00:14:53.20\00:14:55.73 So I decided to protest the devil and I 00:14:56.46\00:14:58.93 refused to follow him any more. I began to go 00:14:58.93\00:15:02.36 to church and eventually heard about AWR 00:15:02.60\00:15:05.60 and then I began to listen to it and read the Bible. 00:15:06.06\00:15:08.86 So he found a change in his heart. 00:15:09.40\00:15:10.73 God began speaking to him through the radio. 00:15:10.93\00:15:12.93 Now he must have shared with someone 00:15:13.33\00:15:14.73 else because he's representing a whole church. 00:15:14.73\00:15:17.30 I shared the message to other 00:15:18.76\00:15:20.06 people and now about 30 people. 00:15:20.06\00:15:22.60 So Jesus Christ spoke to you through the 00:15:23.20\00:15:24.70 airways of AWR and you're happy because 00:15:25.00\00:15:27.13 of that today. We are very happy with AWR. 00:15:27.13\00:15:30.70 Alright, thank you fellows. In the 1890s a man 00:15:31.33\00:15:37.80 had a dream to build a rail road, a rail road 00:15:37.80\00:15:40.36 all the way from the highlands of Ethiopia to 00:15:40.36\00:15:42.76 French Somali land. But he had a few 00:15:42.76\00:15:45.50 problems, one of those problems. 00:15:45.50\00:15:47.16 It's through the most inhospitable territory in 00:15:48.06\00:15:50.26 all of Ethiopia, and then another one the 00:15:50.26\00:15:53.56 Afar people. The Afar people are quite a 00:15:53.56\00:15:57.03 tribal people that even file their teeth. 00:15:57.03\00:15:58.96 I understand or did at that time, 00:15:58.96\00:16:00.70 a vicious people who didn't want this iron 00:16:01.23\00:16:03.16 monster going their land at all. 00:16:03.16\00:16:05.10 They raid, they pillaged, they plundered, 00:16:06.60\00:16:08.60 they killed the workers. But finally 800 00:16:08.60\00:16:12.03 kilometers and 20 years later the rail 00:16:12.03\00:16:15.76 road was completed. But today it lies in 00:16:15.76\00:16:19.30 complete disuse. The Afar people are one 00:16:19.30\00:16:25.93 of nine recognized ethnic divisions of Ethiopia, 00:16:25.93\00:16:29.03 inhabiting Djibouti in North Eastern Ethiopia. 00:16:29.50\00:16:32.16 The Afar language is based impart from the 00:16:33.53\00:16:35.60 ancient Cush people as mentioned in the 00:16:35.60\00:16:37.50 Old Testament book of Genesis in numbers. 00:16:37.50\00:16:39.70 Cush was the grandson of Noah and the son 00:16:40.40\00:16:42.53 of Ham. He settled in Africa in the area 00:16:42.53\00:16:45.10 of modern day Ethiopia. The Karayu people 00:16:45.10\00:16:50.56 are cousins to the Afar living in the same 00:16:50.56\00:16:52.86 region. But in the times of drought family 00:16:52.86\00:16:55.70 relations mean little as the two tribes are 00:16:55.70\00:16:57.80 known to fight over water. Where's 00:16:57.80\00:17:01.03 our translator, what's the brand. 00:17:01.03\00:17:03.10 Foreign language 00:17:03.63\00:17:07.16 We call it Farley, Farley okay. 00:17:07.16\00:17:08.43 Does he know what the bullet size 00:17:08.73\00:17:10.23 is 9mm. No, they're bigger than that. 00:17:10.23\00:17:13.36 Foreign language 00:17:14.60\00:17:15.90 What's he carrying for. 00:17:16.23\00:17:17.70 Foreign language 00:17:18.30\00:17:20.16 Just for the protection of animals and for 00:17:20.70\00:17:23.26 themselves. Is he a good shot 00:17:23.60\00:17:25.60 Foreign language 00:17:25.80\00:17:29.50 He doesn't want to brag now. 00:17:29.93\00:17:31.13 Well guns and radios no mater where 00:17:33.43\00:17:35.90 we are AWR is reaching out there. 00:17:35.90\00:17:38.46 You fellows, you're one group. 00:17:41.43\00:17:42.66 Yeah, we are one group. 00:17:45.70\00:17:47.90 How far away did you travel today? 00:17:48.90\00:17:50.50 We came from around 145 kilometers away, 00:17:51.40\00:17:54.06 six hours on foot and three hours by car. 00:17:54.80\00:17:57.33 So nine and half hours of travel most of that 00:17:58.00\00:18:00.53 on foot. Share that story with me, 00:18:00.53\00:18:03.00 what happened? How come you're here 00:18:03.00\00:18:05.30 today, how come you're Christians today? 00:18:05.30\00:18:07.06 Foreign language 00:18:07.06\00:18:08.83 We had listened to AWR to several times. 00:18:09.33\00:18:11.46 But we didn't know where the church was. 00:18:12.03\00:18:13.83 We eventually heard from a friend of ours 00:18:14.76\00:18:16.60 where the church was located. When I heard 00:18:16.60\00:18:19.46 the AWR truth and talked to my friend 00:18:19.46\00:18:22.10 who is an adventist, I decided to come this church. 00:18:22.10\00:18:25.66 Now you've been sharing this message 00:18:26.36\00:18:27.96 with others, is that correct? 00:18:27.96\00:18:29.56 Foreign language 00:18:29.76\00:18:30.90 I have shared with so many people, 00:18:30.90\00:18:32.36 sometime many people will gather in my 00:18:33.26\00:18:35.50 home and we listen to the radio program. 00:18:35.50\00:18:37.20 How many people? There are about seven 00:18:37.80\00:18:40.80 of us in that group. Amen, brothers thank you so much. 00:18:40.80\00:18:44.06 Foreign language 00:18:44.76\00:18:47.66 We've got to go, there is one more group, I think. 00:18:48.00\00:18:49.76 Foreign language 00:18:50.00\00:18:53.00 Now this is another church group here, yes. 00:18:54.56\00:18:56.86 I can't remember here, this gentleman. 00:18:57.06\00:18:59.60 He's Devon. Tell us how come you 00:18:59.60\00:19:02.10 came today and why is this group here? 00:19:02.33\00:19:04.50 Before I was a Christian, I would seek the 00:19:07.36\00:19:09.26 fortuneteller's guidance all the time. 00:19:09.26\00:19:11.90 I will give him money and perform sacrifices for 00:19:13.80\00:19:16.03 him. By following his orders I had so many 00:19:16.03\00:19:19.80 problems. I lost all my property and my 00:19:19.80\00:19:23.50 entire family was sick. I even became 00:19:23.50\00:19:26.53 seriously ill. Finally I heard about God. 00:19:26.53\00:19:30.10 I began to listen to AWR. Always we heard 00:19:30.70\00:19:34.00 about AWR where she come to my house and 00:19:34.00\00:19:36.43 worship with us. I have given a peace of my 00:19:36.43\00:19:40.03 own land and provide number for us to have 00:19:40.03\00:19:42.76 our own church. I got to ask you too, 00:19:42.76\00:19:45.73 seems like for so many people here go to 00:19:45.73\00:19:47.90 fortunetellers. Why do the people go to the 00:19:47.90\00:19:50.63 fortunetellers, and it seems like every story 00:19:50.90\00:19:53.90 I've heard it's always disaster when they 00:19:53.90\00:19:56.46 Go the fortuneteller. Seeking fortunetellers 00:19:56.46\00:20:00.83 is a tradition in our culture. Our people know 00:20:00.83\00:20:04.96 nothing about god. So we're following the 00:20:05.66\00:20:07.80 tradition of our families and go to the fortunetellers. 00:20:07.80\00:20:11.23 So the entire culture is wrapped around 00:20:12.53\00:20:15.23 fortunetelling, it's supposedly trying to tell 00:20:15.23\00:20:17.10 the future. So how exciting it is to be 00:20:17.10\00:20:19.96 free from all that in Jesus Christ. Thank you. 00:20:19.96\00:20:23.10 Now you young fellows, you've said you are 00:20:23.83\00:20:26.30 in fortunetelling also. Yes, they were. 00:20:26.30\00:20:28.83 What happens if the fortuneteller tells 00:20:29.33\00:20:31.50 you to do something and you don't do it? 00:20:31.50\00:20:33.03 Foreign language 00:20:33.53\00:20:35.70 We really fear the fortune teller and if 00:20:36.33\00:20:38.60 he orders us and we don't listen, 00:20:38.60\00:20:40.63 we expect something bad to happen to us. 00:20:40.63\00:20:43.16 And what bad could happen to you? 00:20:43.73\00:20:45.56 Death! Death! Well that's pretty final. 00:20:47.30\00:20:50.93 So you've seen it, it's happened to someone 00:20:52.63\00:20:54.30 you know or you've just thought 00:20:54.30\00:20:55.63 that this is what could happen. 00:20:55.63\00:20:56.90 Foreign language 00:20:57.56\00:20:59.66 We hear that from our fathers and grandparents. 00:21:00.36\00:21:02.70 We've witnessed people get seriously sick and 00:21:03.00\00:21:05.70 they say it's because they're disobedient 00:21:05.70\00:21:08.10 to the fortuneteller's orders. 00:21:08.10\00:21:10.03 Now how have your lives changed since 00:21:10.80\00:21:12.16 you've found Jesus Christ. Our lives have 00:21:12.16\00:21:14.73 changes so much. Fellows, thank you so 00:21:14.73\00:21:17.13 much today, I appreciate it. We will see each 00:21:17.13\00:21:19.50 other in heaven one day soon. We need to 00:21:19.50\00:21:21.86 find our other group here and talk with them 00:21:22.10\00:21:24.00 a moment. Through the Radio Wave of AWR 00:21:24.00\00:21:28.83 God is reaching people around the world. 00:21:28.83\00:21:30.80 We'd like to offer you an edition of Making 00:21:32.56\00:21:34.50 Waves. It's four of our episodes brought to 00:21:34.50\00:21:36.86 you from around the world. God speaking 00:21:36.86\00:21:39.93 to hearts, the hearts of the listeners of AWR 00:21:39.93\00:21:42.30 exciting stories. We hope that you'll share 00:21:42.30\00:21:44.70 those with friends and neighbors, acquaintances, 00:21:44.70\00:21:46.80 anyone you come in contact with. 00:21:47.10\00:21:48.46 Join us to make waves, it's completely free. 00:21:48.46\00:21:51.20 Right now the information is on your screen. 00:21:52.10\00:21:53.70 For your free, no obligation DVD, 00:21:55.63\00:21:57.66 write to Adventist World Radio, 12501, 00:21:57.66\00:22:01.70 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, 00:22:01.70\00:22:03.73 Maryland 20904, or call 1-866-503-3531 00:22:03.73\00:22:11.36 or log onto www.awr.org/MWDVD. 00:22:11.70\00:22:18.46 Be sure to request offer number 10, 00:22:19.06\00:22:21.00 that number again is 1-866-503-3531. 00:22:21.53\00:22:26.73 Here's another story of hope from Adventist 00:22:29.60\00:22:32.60 World Radio. In the summer of 2003, 00:22:32.60\00:22:35.80 fifty volunteers set out on bicycles across 00:22:36.06\00:22:38.76 the Karnataka-Goa region of India. 00:22:38.76\00:22:41.23 Their mission was to invite town's people 00:22:41.46\00:22:43.66 from around that region to one of fifty 00:22:43.66\00:22:45.96 different locations, where they could listen 00:22:45.96\00:22:48.13 to the Adventist World Radio. Many people in 00:22:48.13\00:22:51.03 the Karnataka-Goa region do not own radios, 00:22:51.03\00:22:54.16 and those that do often have never heard 00:22:54.60\00:22:57.03 of Adventist World Radio. The goal of the 00:22:57.03\00:22:59.60 project was to establish listeners clubs 00:22:59.80\00:23:01.83 that would meet regularly to listen to the 00:23:01.83\00:23:03.80 programs, hopefully leading the people to 00:23:03.80\00:23:06.66 Christ. To date over two thousand five hundred 00:23:06.66\00:23:10.33 people have been baptized through the listeners clubs. 00:23:10.33\00:23:13.26 Adventist World Radio shares the hope of 00:23:16.40\00:23:19.16 Christ with millions of people everyday in 00:23:19.43\00:23:22.53 their own languages. For more 00:23:22.53\00:23:24.50 information visit awr.org. 00:23:24.50\00:23:27.76 Now, you're a great group of people. 00:23:29.23\00:23:30.76 Are there more people that couldn't come 00:23:30.76\00:23:32.53 to join you today? Yeah, they are some 00:23:32.53\00:23:35.40 more. Now I see several of you, now forgive 00:23:35.40\00:23:39.36 me 'cause I'm old but you look very young. 00:23:39.36\00:23:41.43 It's great to see young people accepting 00:23:42.26\00:23:44.10 the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Can one of 00:23:44.10\00:23:46.93 you that's the younger of the group tell 00:23:46.93\00:23:49.03 me how it happened? Most of us young 00:23:49.03\00:23:52.83 people are in school. So it's easy for us 00:23:52.83\00:23:55.80 to read and understand the truth in the 00:23:55.80\00:23:57.76 Bible and because of that many of us 00:23:57.76\00:24:00.80 are accepting Jesus Christ. So, you're all 00:24:01.06\00:24:04.40 sharing Jesus with others? Amen. 00:24:04.40\00:24:06.60 Yeah, yes we're sharing. You've been 00:24:06.60\00:24:08.43 grinning and smiling so much I got to ask 00:24:08.43\00:24:10.80 you the question. So you're instrumental in 00:24:10.80\00:24:14.43 kind of helping these people as they 00:24:14.43\00:24:15.90 listen to AWR, and then they begin coming 00:24:15.90\00:24:19.36 to you and asking questions? I travel to 00:24:19.36\00:24:24.00 their villages and there was no Adventist 00:24:24.23\00:24:26.40 Church, but most of the people they were 00:24:26.40\00:24:28.66 listening to AWR. Most of them knew something 00:24:28.93\00:24:32.10 about the sabbath too. many had questions 00:24:32.10\00:24:34.90 about adventist church, so I help them 00:24:34.90\00:24:37.30 understand the awr message. eventually they 00:24:37.30\00:24:40.50 all accept jesus christ and we have all 00:24:40.50\00:24:43.86 begun worshiping together. so are you all 00:24:43.86\00:24:46.76 happy in jesus christ today. yes, we do 00:24:46.76\00:24:49.93 have. has god changed your lives every 00:24:49.93\00:24:52.00 one of you? yes. i'm seeing this grin, 00:24:52.00\00:24:55.43 i like this grin. it's always a blessing to meet 00:24:55.43\00:25:00.80 dozens of people living in extremely remote 00:25:00.80\00:25:03.66 areas, who have spent their entire lives 00:25:03.66\00:25:05.80 believing the fortunetellers and following their 00:25:05.80\00:25:08.66 lives until they've turned on their radios and 00:25:08.93\00:25:11.63 a spring of little water filled them to over 00:25:11.63\00:25:14.00 flowing. Now, no matter how hard the devil 00:25:14.00\00:25:33.63 tries to disrupt the result, even during the 00:25:33.63\00:25:36.20 baptism of celebration, they will not be 00:25:36.40\00:25:39.00 robbed of victory in Christ. 00:25:39.00\00:25:40.80 Today in our program we've seen an example 00:25:59.70\00:26:01.70 of what AWR does. Usually what happens, 00:26:01.70\00:26:05.06 one person somehow begins to listen to the 00:26:05.06\00:26:08.03 radio. They feel their heart s with a message 00:26:08.03\00:26:11.73 of what they've heard, and then they have 00:26:12.30\00:26:14.20 the impulse to tell somebody else. 00:26:14.20\00:26:16.33 We begin to get another listener and they 00:26:16.90\00:26:19.03 listen, they form a group, and the next 00:26:19.23\00:26:21.63 impulse is to become a church. And as we've 00:26:21.63\00:26:24.53 seen here today, we have six different 00:26:24.53\00:26:26.50 churches that have been formed all from 00:26:26.50\00:26:29.26 the listening to Adventist World Radio. 00:26:29.26\00:26:31.80 In the scriptures, in the Book of Colossians, 00:26:32.26\00:26:34.76 chapter 1, there are several verses here 00:26:34.76\00:26:37.30 that the Apostle Paul writes to his people. 00:26:37.30\00:26:39.80 And I think they apply to these people 00:26:40.23\00:26:42.40 here as well. We thank God, the Father 00:26:42.40\00:26:46.20 of our Lord Jesus Christ when we pray for 00:26:46.20\00:26:48.43 you because we have heard of your faith 00:26:48.43\00:26:51.23 in Christ Jesus and of the love that you 00:26:51.23\00:26:54.00 have for all the saints. All over the world 00:26:54.23\00:26:57.76 this gospel is bearing fruit and growing just 00:26:57.76\00:27:01.90 as it has been doing among you since the 00:27:01.90\00:27:04.20 day you heard it and understood God's 00:27:04.20\00:27:07.40 grace in all its truth. That's happening 00:27:07.40\00:27:11.40 in so many places all over the world this 00:27:11.40\00:27:14.40 gospel is growing, because they're able to 00:27:14.40\00:27:17.40 hear it, and internalize it into their hearts. 00:27:17.40\00:27:20.70 And we at AWR will keep making waves 00:27:21.23\00:27:23.60 as well as long as we have the resources 00:27:23.60\00:27:26.26 to continue our work and you can be a part 00:27:26.26\00:27:28.96 of this as well.
